Its plot is all over the place, the pacing is off, the CG is very poor at a few points (Doomsday in specific), and it tries to stuff too much into the movie. Worst of all, its just not as fun as typical superhero movies. Its atmosphere is dreary and uninteresting to add on. However, the greatest gladiator match of all time does have some good points. The acting is rock solid, especially Affleck, Gadot, and Irons as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Alfred, respectively. The film is also very well shot and some of the fights between Batman and Superman are pretty enjoyable. It's themes and expansion on the aftermath of Man of Steel is interesting too. Despite these pros, BvS is a mediocre film overall due to basic film problems, a disappointment, and a truly rocky start to the building of the DC expanded universe. Expand

It should be called Batman movie Vs. Man of steel.
First off the movie has 7-10 opening scenes (depending on what you classify as an opening scene), and 3-4 false endings. Then after 2 hours of unnecessarily complicated buildup (that could have been done in 1 hour or even 30 minutes), they fight. The first 10 minutes of fighting is great, then it becomes man of steel (over the top, silly and epically serious action). The movie tries to tell too many stories at once leading to the viewer not getting enough time to care about any of them.
When the movie is over I got a feeling that this entire movie is just a very long and expensive trailer for Justice League...

Visually it all looks good and the action is "cool", but just like any Znyderfilm, the action takes the focus and the characters and story becomes less important (even though they tell it for way to long).

The Batman-part is really good, and the take on the character feels fresh, dark, and angry, just how I like Batman. Affleck is great, and stars in a pretty good 40 minute batman movie. Sadly it has been squeezed into a 2 hour remake of man of steel.

The Superman part is, superman...same as always. Superman fight's superalienmonster, loves Lois Lane, destroys the city and feels over the top and clichéd.

Batman should be fighting deranged criminal masterminds, not intergalactic cavetrolls. Also batman shouldn't be shooting people with pistols and machineguns (whether it's in a dream or not).
That's another problem: this movie has as least 3 "it was all a dream"- scenes.

All and all It's worth a watch, but only because of Affleck. I want to see a standalone Batfleck film.

Btw. RoboBat is amazing.

The plot holes are so huge and glaring that only a sub 80 IQ could think this is any good. Warner Bros DC blew their load way too early. THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN ALREADY?! REALLY? Expand

The pacing was a little slow however this didn't take away anything from the grandeur of the matter at hand. Thor was my favourite superhero film until now. I left the cinema wanting more and the hints of future DC movies to come show great promise. DC seems much darker than Marvel comics and this comes across in this film. I thought Affleck's Batman is the superior of all. He looks like and acts like both sides of his life. The concerns people had for him are removed. For me, Wonder Woman was the final mark from 9 to 10. Her display of power and fighting ability made my day. So epic. If watched with an open mind and enjoyed for the right reasons this will be an amazing experience. This film came with much expectation and it passed the test for me. It has all the qualities you'd want in a superhero story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman V Superman is definitely a different type of superhero movie than those that have been released recently, as it feels directly lifted from multiple comic books, that were carefully laid out, and then throw into a blender. The movie takes place before, during, and for the most part, after the events of director Zack Snyder’s previous foray in the superhero genre, Man of Steel. I can say, if you did like Man of Steel, you will most likely like this movie as the tone is very similar, if not a little darker, but it does not feel nearly as bleak and hopeless as its predecessor, but that is not to say that the movie is infused with much joy either.

It is nice to say after what was years of the internet’s dread, the acting was fairly spot on. Henry Cavill maintains his role of Superman, and I’ve got to say I do like the way they present Superman as a whole. Not as some all-knowing God type figure, but as a misfit alien who can do almost anything, except be human. Ben Affleck makes an incredible Batman, somewhat akin to the Arkham series of games, my only complaint being is it seems they went for a very Frank Miller inspired Batman, as he flat-out murders people in a few scenes in the Batmobile and Batwing, but this does seem to be the basis of his conflict with Superman, which is ultimately remedied in the end. Gal Gadot, likewise made a very fascinating Wonder Woman, even though she did not have much screen time until the end of the film. I am still somewhat on the fence about Jesse Eisenberg’s casting as Lex Luthor, for those of you hoping he would be the sinister, and imposing Lex Luthor that has been common place in DC’s animated movies and cartoons, he is not. I can say, however, that he does do a very good job in his role, being much more strangely upbeat but ultimately psychotic. The movie does have a scene showing Luthor being imprisoned, head shaved, and locked away, so there is hope that he may become much more daunting like the Luthor many are accustomed to.

The story overall is a mixed bag, but it works, it feels very much like an animated DC film brought to life. That is, however, not entirely perfect. As I mentioned prior, the movie lacks any sort of joy, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I get that is what DC is going for but when the only emotion being portrayed on screen is brooding, it feels a little bland. The story also feels somewhat nonsensical at certain points, namely in the beginning, when it feels like they couldn’t choose which of five different intros for the film, so they just threw them all in at random. Those complains aside however, the story does work, some of it may be somewhat of a slog, but the parts that are not are absolutely exhilarating. The action scenes are visceral and intense, Batman completely demolishing a group of thugs in particular was incredible, as was watching Batman and Superman duke it out, but both were overshadowed by how epic the final showdown with Doomsday was. Witnessing the trio (Trio is generous to say, Batman just kind of watched and ate popcorn with the crowd in the movie theater) come to blows with Doomsday was phenomenal. From a fairly geeky standpoint, it was cool to see Snyder and his crew incorporate Doomsdays evolutionary features, and watching in vein as Superman, Wonderwoman, and the US government attempted to slay him, only to make him stronger. Ultimately the battle ends by taking a page from one of the more well-known Superman comics, Death of Superman, which doesn’t really leave much up to the imagination in what happens. The final moments take place at Clark’s funeral with Bruce speaking to Diana (Wonderwoman) telling her they need to find the other meta-humans. Which ultimately perpetuates what this movie is actually about, it is a two-and-a-half-hour hype trailer for the Justice League movie.
In all, this movie is not perfect, the story and lack of emotion can sometimes make it feel like a grind. On the other spectrum, the action, acting, and awe of seeing Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman kickass alongside one another on the big-screen work heavily it its favor. So, if you are looking for a light-hearted superhero movie, or even just hoping for DC’s successor to “The Dark Knight” you will not find it here, this is not that movie. What you will find, is a gripping tale of multiple comic books woven together, and brought into real life with a solid cast, convoluted but good story that create the groundwork for a potentially incredible series of films to come.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A spectacular epic journey into the emerging world of DC Comics! Great special effects and acting. Although this movie was great it did have it's flaws but it wasn't in the story but the editing and pacing. It started off really good in both story and pacing, then the pace slowed down and the stories and editing got erratic, and then it picked up and went all out action! I have always been a fan of Zach Snyder but this time his use of colorless cameras and erratic editing really ruined what could have been both a fan's and critic's masterpiece. Anyone who gives this movie a zero or one is just a DC hater and not a real film fan. Ben Affleck is the Batman we have been waiting for and Gal Gadot was great as Wonder Woman. This was the perfect set up for the Justice League and the DCEU. The way the movie introduced Aqua-man, the Flash, and Cyborg was genius and have me wanting more, luckily Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman will give us a chance to see this new DCEU without being under Zach Snyder's directing. Here's hoping Snyder really takes his criticisms to heart (not all of them are legit but some are) and really does something to improve his films. I know these films are supposed to be dark and gloomy but enough with the special lenses and dull picture. WHy can't we have a nice crisp but dark tone for these types of movies? The battles between Batman and Superman and between Doomsday and the Trinity was some of the best action in any movies I've seen, worth the price of admission. You just have to slog through the middle 45 minutes or so to get from the beginning to that point. People compare these movies to Marvel but that is not a fair comparison. DC has the guts to take their characters to places that Marvel won't dare to go. Sure it hurts in the box office, but there has to be a middle ground to make it work and I am not sure if Zach Snyder is the man to do it. Overall a very good movie, both is story and action. I give it a nine ouf of 10 because the action scenes, acting, and overall story outweigh the bad editing and color problems. I suggest someone go see it twice to really enjoy what could have been the greatest superhero movie of all time! Maybe the Blu-ray edition will correct some of these problems, probably not but I can still wish. Expand

However, all super hero movies need hope in some form. After all that is what super hero movies are about right? Hope against all odds, determination in the face of evil, and of course the good of mankind conquering the evil. Well BvS lacks all of these. Instead it is a heavy handed, melodramatic, depressing film. You will not leave in a good mood
The good
- Awesome action sequences. Epic in scale and shot very well.
-Ben Aflek NAILED the batman role, more so than any other batman I have seen
-The dark setting and overall "bad mood" of the movie makes for something that differs from the typical super hero experience
-Wonder Woman is great- arguably the best part
-Good premise and certainly pulled off well enough

The bad
-Too dark for most viewers. BvS is relentless in its onslaught of hopelessness, destruction, and cruelty. The whole movie is one dark cloud, and just when you think the sun will shine through- it gets darker.
-Superman (Henry Cavil) tries to bring superman to life but the character feels lifeless and boring
-Not enough action
-In between the action is emotionally heavy scenes pushing motivations along at a feverish pace. The story and motivations do not unfold naturally, instead they seemed to be pushed into the final places for the big third act
-Jesse Eisenberg really tries hard to be a good Lex Luther. Almost seemed to resemble the craziness of Heath Ledger's Joker. However, the writing failed him. Lex in this film is a crazy unhinged sociopath and not a brilliant criminal mastermind. He never gives us a threatening vibe. Instead he just seems like a crazy person with weird motivations. There isn't a strong reason behind his actions, what he does is so out of place it can be a bit jarring. Overall Disappointing.

Final verdict: BvS is too well made to be a total train wreck. It boasts strong action sequences, some great characters, and a good overall premise. However it's dark and heavy handed nature pushes characters along unnaturally and dampens the mood on what is otherwise a thrilling spectacle of a film. 7/10

I like how the story focuses on a major criticism of "Man of Steel", which was the devastation of a large portion of the city in the final act. The public both hate and love Superman, while politicians and the media debate about his actions. Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor privately resent how powerless Superman's abilities makes them feel. It taps into Bruce's feeling of helplessness to save his parents, only this time the threat is to all of humanity. Affleck is a great Batman/Bruce Wayne.

I also enjoyed this Lex Luthor. You can see in his body language and facial twitches that he is barely able to mask his contempt for all the average people around him. I like how his theme music is the Superman theme but all warped like it was played on an out of tune piano. Wonder Woman was great too. She actually enjoys the battle in the final act as she is finally able to cut loose on a powerful foe. I really want to see the full 3 hour film as 30 minutes of story can have a massive impact.

CRITICISMS: The Batman music at times is overbearing. It sounds like booming industrial war drums. There are three jarring dream/vision sequences that make no contextual sense, and add nothing to the story. They should have been cut with the other 30 minutes of material as they just confused the audience. The film ends on a melancholy note, which seems like an odd choice as it was supposed to get us excited for a Justice League sequel.

By watching the movie, you can clearly see the groundwork for a great and powerful story, which ends up being squandered by trying to squeeze several movies together in order to create a single 2 1/2 hour movie. There are a number of scenes, including Doomsday, that were completely unnecessary, and most of the action sequences are saved for the third act.
That all being said, I did thoroughly enjoy this movie, even though it could've been SO MUCH more. The cast is terrific: Ben Affleck makes for what I think is the best cinematic Batman of all-time, even better than Christian Bale. Gal Gadot makes for a fierce & badass Wonder Woman, who I am now very excited to see make her standalone debut. Jesse Eisenberg was OK as Lex Luthor, although he's very awkward and jittery at times.
As a director, Zach Snyder doesn't make for the best storyteller, but he knows how to use a camera to create some powerful imagery. BvS has some amazing visual shots, and the cinematography is spot on.
The action sequences are pretty awesome (most notably the ones involving Batman), but there could've been a few more, especially in the first half of the movie.
There are a lot of themes in this movie, including the dangers of power, corruption, religion & paranoia of outsiders, and while the movie touches on philosophical ideas such as "What is a hero?" and "Should Superman even exist?", they don't have enough time to develop, which goes back to putting too much into 1 movie.
So while it isn't a GREAT movie, it's hardly a train wreck. I'm honestly baffled at how vicious the critics have been towards this movie, and I've quite a few of them go as far as to compare it to Marvel at some point in the reviews. This is not the way people should be judging the DC movies. They won't get anywhere by being an exact clone of their competition, and the darker tone of these movies makes for a good alternative to the lighter & more humorous Marvel films.
In the end, it is the fans themselves would will be the true critics of this movie. They are the people who will gladly pay to see 2 iconic heroes of myth meet for the first time on the big screen. They are the ones who have followed these characters in the comics, and they will judge how they are depicted on the big screen. And even though This fan might not have been blown away by what he saw, he was no less satisfied with the end result.

Let's start with some of these ridiculous statements that some of these sheep say "Batman v Superman introduces a semi-interesting Batman." Really? As oppose to the last Batman movie The Dark Knight Returns IMO was bad. I saw it only once it was so bad. Couldn't understand Bain at all. Here's another "This is a sub-mediocre action movie with superheroes thrown in to make it seem interesting and milk the trend. Great for 13 year old edge lords. Go see if you're a latent Juggalo." Perhaps this idiot needs to go watch the English Patient some more because he has no taste. Here's another "All the plotholes and illogical pacing make this the funniest superhero movie I have ever seen." I'm in my 50ies and I have edited many a video and still have no idea what this sheep means by pacing. Maybe he needs to get him a bicycle and keep a good pace on it. Here's another " The South Park episode "The Passion of the Jew" and he likes Southpark? That's all he needed to say because if you can sit through an episode of Southpark then you have issues. Thankfully, I know 90% of us have learnt to ignore these idiots and go and enjoy the movie for being a comic book readers dream come true, and it absolutely fulfils that requirement in spades, so much so, you will leave the movie theatre wondering what the hell these critics mad ravings were all about.
Batman vs Superman is not a masterpiece, but it does tick all the right boxes, the film centres on how some might feel about Superman being a figure of what we don't know and the fear of that unknown, this is Bruce Wayne's focal point, why he has misgivings of the Man of Steel, while Superman feels the likes of Bruce Wayne is adding fuel to a fire of mistrust and hatred of him, just because he is different, this clearly is a reflection of many aspects of our world today.
It's true that Eisenberg is a poor choice for Luthor, he is more Heath Ledger joker psychotic than a highly intelligent adversary, however, he is behind much of what Batman is lead to believe about Superman, carefully manipulating the situation to distract them both from what he is really up to, and it takes Lois Lane's investigations to uncover it all, which in turn forces Luthor's hand in getting Batman to take down Superman.
It's compelling stuff and doesn't suffer from Snyder moving all over the place with set pieces as he did with Man of Steel, I would agree that the manipulation of both Batman and Superman is far too easy, and you don't end up thinking it's going to end badly or start to worry, it does lack that sense of cleverness that could've had made the movie more excitable, but this isn't a spy story or a plot twister, we came to see a CGI fest of Batman taking on Superman, and yes, while brief, we get that and it does deliver.
At the end of the day, there will be Marvel comic book fans coming and writing negative reviews simply because it's DC, and there will be those critics more accustomed to praising anything attached to an Oscar and really have zero interest in comic book movies anyway, and then those critics so incredibly lazy that they have really paid no attention to the movie or have just not received their customary pay to endorse a movie (which by the looks of the reviews is many)....and then you have the true fans, the one's who just want to see Batman and Superman on the big screen in a pretty damn good movie with excellent visuals, good characterisation (everyone apart from Eisenberg performs admirably) and a story that offers drama, intrigue and a blockbuster finale to lead onto bigger things.
As I said, we've grown accustomed to critics getting it horrendously wrong time and again and being completely out of touch with the man on the street, they think they are supremely clever wordsmiths, but in truth they come across as bitter naysayers of anything comic book related.
So if the thought had crossed you mind to listen to the critics, it's your loss, sure you will see it on blu ray or DVD, but you might just feel a tinge of regret for not seeing it on the big screen because for one second you bought into the rantings an overpaid, pretentious, fat and bored hack as we know so many of these critics really are....I for one, am absolutely glad I did not, and I will be helping myself to another helping of Batman vs Superman in the coming days.

However, I personally pay no heed to critic reviews, they are frequently bias and unbalanced and Batman Vs Superman exemplifies this so aptly. The movie itself is compelling and there is never a dull moment from start to end. The special effects are jaw dropping amazing and the action scenes, at numerous points in the movie, are quite simply incredible.
Ignore the disparate lack of imagination and fun the tedious negative critics convey in their reviews, their over zealous and lofty expectations are not indicative of accuracy in movies, it is shallow and lacking any merit. Go and enjoy a fantastic movie experience and then draw your own conclusions.

The actors did the best they could with what zack gave them, and some in particular especially ben affleck shined like the moon on a clear night, he gave us the definitive and literally the most badass version of batman that we have ever seen, so was this movie perfect? God no, but the prospect for the future and the potential of this universe to turn into something amazing is what really excites me and is why this movie deserves a 10/10. Also it was thrilling and had me at the edge of my seat, ive seen it twice and i will see it many more times before it leaves theaters and many more times after that, say what you will, but as a fan of the source material i loved every second of this movie. No scene transitions, incoherent story telling. But that's cool cause it's over compensated by incredible looking scenes and well performed acting. Yes the movie may be too dark for wide audiences.

But guess what? So is D.C comics. It's Dark, it's impressive, it's big and doesn't need to "justify" itself. And so is BvS.

IMO, Ben Affleck is a perfect fit as Batman. (yes, better than Bale). Wonder Woman is intriguing as she should be.

Do not Believe the Critics. Go see this movie. Whatever you read about this movie before its release is false.

I would gave it an "8" but went for a 10 to compensate for incorrect and false reviews.

Second you know zack snyder's watchmen right? THIS MOVIE IS JUST AS DARK AS WATCHMEN IS. Third, if you want to have a laugh go watch marvel's movie.
Now the review. It's great in my point of view, Batman always have trust issues with people he's not like superman who see the good sides in people just the way it is. It's too long? nope it's not too long for me, it have a lots of " Easter egg" for the upcoming justice league movie and also lots of comic reference, of course people who doesn't read comics would say it's too long because they don't understand **** and to those who say supe's dead is stupid have you ever read The Death of Superman? of course he will resurrect why would he be in the justice league's poster if he's not in the movie? the only problem was the miscast of jesse eisenberg he resemble more of joker than lex luthor who is smart and always a few steps in front of his foes

Its a very well shot movie and the acting for the most part is done well (Stand out performance from Gal and Ben for their versions of WonderWoman and Batman). The visuals are amazing almost right out of pages from the comic book. However, this movie isn't w/o faults. While the story is coherent for the most part there are scenes in which the there was clearly a scene that should've proceeded this one event but it didn't because it was most likely cut to keep the already long run time down below 3 hours. I feel that the Ultimate Cut which is rumored to be rated R will have the better storyline hopefully it won't feel as if it is dragging because of the 3 hours. I think, in my opinion, the weakest performance was Jesse Esienberg. I get what he was trying to do but it just comes off as campy and forced rather than fluid. When you are trying to have a sociopath pretend to be normal the character should behave similar to Hannibal Lector or Dexter Morgan. His way.....just seemed so off. Another compliant that I have which seems to be more about scenes that were cut was how little interaction the two title characters actually received. All the scenes w/ them in the trailers ARE the scenes in which they are together in the movie. I feel like there should've and probably was scenes that were cut from the movie that would've played into this dynamic but unfortunately we wont know till December or early next year when the Blu Ray is released. All in all, I enjoyed this movie and it took a 2nd viewing to really appreciate the movie for what its worth. 6.5/10 based on first viewing, 8/10 after sec viewing. Expand

To those on the fence about watching this movie, given the poor Rotten
Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings - I'm staying up late to write this
review for you. I have therefore deliberately kept it spoiler-free.

I am a Marvel fan boy. I've seen most of their properties so far, and
they have only gotten better and better at honing their art. Kudos to
them.

DC never really got my attention except for the recent Nolan movies.
Burton piqued my interest. Man of Steel - though divisive - was
entertaining in my book, though I had my fair share of issues with it.

Comics-wise, I've always been more interested in the DC series only
because I think the plot lines were easier to follow, more consistent,
and generally more interesting than Marvel's. Don't shoot me - I'm just
speaking as a casual consumer in that regard.

I went in to BvS with high expectations, despite what I thought were
pretty poorly edited trailers (which did not inspire me to watch this
film, mind you), and not to mention the atrocious Rotten Tomatoes and
Metacritic scores. Suicide Squad looks much better by comparison, and
is the Lego Batman movie. However, I decided to purchase 2 IMAX tickets
(which were criminally expensive at my IMAX theater) because (i) it
would be a good 'date night' with my wife and to have someone take care
of our young daughter tonight; (ii) there are some actors and actresses
in it that I have enjoyed in other movies (i.e. Ben Affleck, Amy
Adams), and I respect most of their work so far though not all are
critically acclaimed.

Zack Snyder wouldn't be the reason why I am watching this. Aside from
Man of Steel, I have only seen his '300' which is strangely hailed as
his best work. Personally, I detested it.

I walked away from BvS with a large smile on my face. The acting was
good - Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg were my personal highlights. I
know some don't like his portrayal of Lex - but my wife found it to be
the highlight. Teetering on the edge between that of a wealthy genius
young entrepreneur and man obsessively manic over the morality of power
-- man could Jesse Eisenberg act.

Ben Affleck is easily one of my favorite Batman depictions to date.
Christian Bale's best take on the Dark Knight was in Batman Begins when
Nolan had time to flesh out the character. But in none of Nolan's films
was Batman thoroughly depicted as (i) a detective, and (ii) a fighter.
Christian Bale's fight scene against Bane in TDKR was okay – a bit slow
and I did not feel the weight of the punches/kicks (sometimes I wish
that these action films would take note from the Ip Man series). In
this film, I can see why, from the comics, he had the potential to lead
the League of Assassins. Man, did the fight/action scenes deliver.

A side note is that this is easily one of the most visually splendid films I've had the pleasure to watch on IMAX. Don't know what it will be like on a smaller screen, but just on the level of cinematography alone, I was in awe. Much improved over Man of Steel. Larry Fong, well done. Finally, plot. I have heard a lot of criticisms but given this is a spoiler-free, I can't say too much, but hear this: 1. It was not incoherent, but I can see why criticism is warranted. The editing, whilst an improvement from Man of Steel, still could do with some work. More time could be spent on certain plot lines before jumping to another. Personally, I found the different strands easy to follow. 2. I can see why Wonder Woman feels shoe-horned in, as also with the other Easter Eggs which seem to detract from the 'main story'. However, following the original Frank Miller comic which has a sub-text on the 'meta-human' controversy, I can also see why it makes sense to include another 'meta-human' (other than Superman) in this movie but not overcrowd it with anymore. This actually made a lot of sense to me, and feeds into Batman's story arc and character development. 3. This is not a Marvel film, which is riddled with humour to hide the fact that their properties, too, can be light on plot but nevertheless are great entertainment. I found the dark tone fitting, and the occasional levity appropriate. I left the cinema actually still pondering a lot of the serious theological-politico questions raised in the movie which I felt were cleanly and elegantly answered. The answers were not in my face but could be rewardingly reached with some work. 4. This movie has a lot of 'show, don't tell'. Many plots which, I suspect, would be explored in later movies. They are incorporated cleverly, fleeting, and not distracting. If you want distracting plots hammed in for sequels etc, go watch Iron Man 2 and Avengers 2. 5. My plot highlight was the reason why Batman and Superman eventually reconciles. Resonates a lot with me personally. In brief DC has done a great job carving out their own identity with BvS, a tone that was set in motion since (flawed) Man of Steel. My wife (w/o comic book b/g) also enjoyed it immensely - a double win for me.

Every appearance of Batman is awesome and the BEST cinematic-take on Batman so far in my opinion, brutal, calculating, excellent moves and use of gadgets.
Affleck is a great Bruce and even a better Batman. Henry Cavill is great again, a thoughtful and sometimes kind of cocky Superman.
The final fight is great and seeing the Trinity fight together against
Doomsday is superb and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time...
totally worth it. The JL cameos are great too, not too much, not too
little. In short, I definitely enjoyed the movie and I'm excited for

Probably the biggest Superman fan for 36 years of my life that I know of, and I have to say Zack Snyder and the entire cast of Batman v Superman should be congratulated for their deliverance of such an intricate truly entertaining film. I've seen it twice already and will soon be going a 3rd time if that's not testament to how much I've enjoyed it well I don't know what else is. From the opening credits to the witty clever jokes and one liners
through out the film, I now know and understand how Superman fits into a very cynical world such as ours and the kind of sacrifice it takes to make people believe that there is good in the world still. I must have sobbed for 5 to 10 minutes though towards the end (You know where Zack!), but the film has definitely in my mind set an exceptionally high bar for the films to follow it and this fan is hungry for the historical coming together of the JLA. Thank you Hans and XL Junkie for your magnificent score, I find my self humming the opening credits scene often! I would like to encourage all my fellow DC fans to see the film, and their parents who also grew up with their children watching these characters over the years, this really was a dream come true for me.
Lastly I wish to thank everyone who worked so tirelessly to make this beautiful piece of comic art and history, the many hours and time away from your families to give us HOPE in the world once more.

Thanks Supacam731

If you have any love of DC Comics, go see this movie.

It is a lot of fun and for those less cynically influenced, a great superhero drama.
There were some minor pacing issues in the movie. Many dream sequences (yes multiple) seemed unnecessary except to drop some easter eggs for salivating comic fans like myself. The first half goes a bit too long and the second half feels a bit rushed. Hopefully the directors cut will address the last issue.

Affleck and Gal Gadot quickly quiet any doubts as they quickly take on the best characters in the film alongside Jeremy Irons as Alfred. Cavill and Adams are certainly serviceable as Lois and Clark. Eisenberg as Lex Luthor may be more divisive and he gradually became worse and worse as the movie went on. Some will love him and traditionalists may hate him.

The trailer did spoil a few too many things, yet, the movie still has several "WOW" moments and tear jerking scenes. A scene involving a mother's name was particularly strong for me.

This movie is NOT the somewhat brainless but fun and flashy roller coaster of a Marvel movie experience. Nor does it seek to be the ultra realistic and philosophical Nolan-verse. It falls somewhere in the middle. It does at times take itself TOO seriously, however never to a significant fault.

The imagery is excellent, particularly for fans of comic books. You'll see many scenes from iconic story lines recreated perfectly. Yet, as with many films of the Superhero Era, there is far too much dependence upon CGI at times and it can occasionally pull the audience out of the experience.

As the movie concluded, it drew standing applause from the audience- something I did not expect after disliking Man of Steel and seeing the poor critical reviews. Really. It happened. Goes to show, you never know what to expect. If you like DC Comics, go see this movie. If not, it certainly wouldn't be a waste of an afternoon.

Overall a big comicbook fan, but mostly DC. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! My girlfriend, who simply followed me, and who knows nothing about Superman & Batman other than seeing TDK trilogy and MoS once, loved it also.

Not one second were we bored. The movie was gripping from beginning to end. I had read all the bad reviews before going. And all throughout the film, I tried, and I mean, I really tried, to find the flaws the critics "found" that made it deserve a 1/10. My girlfriend had no clue of the reviews. I only told her after the movie to gauge her reaction. She was in shock. She thought it was one of the best comicbook movies ever, on par with the TDKs.

Again, I'm speechless on why this bombed critically. No humor?? Well I'm sorry, this was never, nor was it ever advertised as "The Avengers 3: Enter The Goofy DC Guys", nor "Transformers 7: The Revenge of the Humans". From the start, we knew that the destruction of Metropolis in MoS was going to be the main catalyst of the darkness in the sequel. I guess nothing spells the reaction to the destruction of half of a giant city, thousands of lives lost like Robert Downey's smart wit humor. I remember we were having a laugh after 9/11, right?

Pacing issues?? Have they seen Iron Man 2 & 3? Age of Ultron? ASM? Every scene in the movie had purpose. They managed to include tons of valuable material with minimal editing issues. We both felt the flow worked as perfectly as it could. You simply had to pay attention. I know it's hard nowadays to not be spoon-fed the material in brain-dead fashion, but for the life of all things decent, try it once in a while! Keep your eyes on the screen, focus, and maybe, JUST MAYBE, you might actually understand what's going on.

Character development?? For Christ's Sake, the first 40 minutes were ALL character development. How much more do you want?? Yet another full length Batman origin solo movie, this time with slapstick comedy specially tailored for kids who see their parents murdered in front of their eyes? Because, come on, what can possibly spell more comedy than the brutal death of your parents, or a psychotic serial killer clown... I remember laughing my ass off watching Seven. Now that was a great comedy we all had fun watching!

The Justice League elements were a distraction? Uhm, wha... what?? I'm not even going to get into this. They couldn't have made a more perfect introduction. I guess they meant just like Samuel L. Jackson was a distraction in all the non-Avengers Marvel movies... oh wait, apparently, he wasn't.

Batman too violent?? WTF, again, his actions made sense IN THE MOMENT. He NEVER went into the fight TRYING to kill. The "alleged" killing, if it even actually happened, was collateral damage. Nothing he did classified as murder.

The fight scenes? The best comicbook fights ever put on screen. And please, don't mention Deadpool... Not the same universe at all. It's like comparing the Raid 2 and Star Wars... It's just not comparable.

So overall, you might think I'm a crazy fanboy, call me names and whatnot. But I give it a 10/10. In all honesty, I did not find a flaw. If you twist my arm and hold my parents hostage just to squeeze one out of me, I would say there was too much character development. But I don't see how this could possibly be a reason to trash on the movie. It's usually the biggest critical aspect of CBMs. We finally go in-depth, and it's too much. F*** me.

I pray for WB to stick with the game plan and not change a thing. If the darkness is what the critics and jaded moviegoers are criticizing the most, then it's going to get lighter going forward. Terrio even said it. The darkness is at an all time high in BvS, for a purpose. The JL movies will have a lighter mood, just because the natural progression of the established story will lead it there.

I was not the biggest fan of Snyder after Sucker Punch. But I like Man of Steel (had flaws, did not love it, but like it). However, it's inhuman to trash on the man because you simply hate his previous projects. He created a comicbook masterpiece with BvS. I give him all the praise. And I hope WB continues the work already laid out.

Ben Affleck as Batman is the best onscreen batman to date, he's brutal, fast and unforgiving when he's fighting he is ACTUALLY fighting, it's crazy. Ben Affleck also gives a fantastic performance as Bruce Wayne, we see this playboy act he puts on but deep down inside we see his fear, he's scared Superman could wipe out the entire human race if he wanted to and Batman's angry at Superman as Superman indirectly killed thousands of innocent people, we see in the film that some of those people are his friends, Superman is angry with Batman as he feels his methods are too brutal and he is a criminal. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman gives an exceptional performance just like Jeremy Irons does as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor gives a 'different' take on the character but it's a good one, he's insane, menacing and will do anything and kill anyone to get his own way. In short if you're a comic book fan this film was made for YOU. It has numerous references to comics from things the characters say to actual plot devices...I would give this film a 9/10 it is THE best comic book film to date and the critics online trashing it..well....THEY'RE WRONG. The critics almost ruined this movie for me. I'm so glad they are wrong.
I have always been a huge batman and superman fan but I didn't want a batman vs superman movie. I didn't think they belonged together in a shared universe on screen. I was also terrified when they announced Ben Affleck was cast as batman. When Wonder Woman was announced, I contemplated hurting kittens. In my mind Marvel was the only studio I though could pull off a good story with a shared universe. BUT- Zack Snyder and team more than just pulled it off and proved me wrong, they nailed it and blew it out of the park. This movie was an amazing work of art from start to finish. Not only did it look beautiful, have great action and effects- it had a well fleshed out and cohesive story. I'm not understanding all the bad press about the incoherent story, this was story telling at its finest. In fact, it's the most cohesive superhero story I've seen in a long time. It's similar in formula to The Dark Knight, but much more cohesive. All of the actors did an amazing job making this movie and it's made up science feel real. I cried three times during the movie. Lex Was terrifying and awesome. I'm at odds with other superman fans as I grow tired of always needing Superman to battle big super things. Big super battles grow tiresome. Superman needs story. The best superman stories are when the bad guy uses his wit to outsmart superman and put him in impossible situations. The Lex storyline managed to pull this off beautifully, while still giving the rest of you a big super bad thing for superman to punch. And I agree with other fan reviews, this is the best onscreen adaption of batman-period. Wonder woman's final grand entrance was amazing and timed perfectly. It worked so much better in the full context with the story than it looked in the trailer. I'm actually excited to see the wonderwoman movie. Let's not forget about AMY Adams. I've been a huge fan of her acting ever since "Enchanted" and she did an amazing job as Lois again. She really helped ground this movie make it more human. (She also happens to be my one time wife-approved pass.) Also-if you read and enjoyed the superman comics in the 90's and then realized how ridiculous the plot lines were when you grew up, you'll be glad to know this movie found a way to take the basis of those stories and rectify it into something beautiful and believable. Well done WB and DC Zack and cast. I really hope this movie is a hit despite the pummeling it got from critics. Id be devastated to have go through another DC reboot after growing so attached to these characters. AND DC, please do not listen to the critics and "lighten up" the upcoming Justice League movies. That would be a huge mistake.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The structure in the beginning of the movie was quite sharp because of jumping from the now days to the past and back again. It actually was filled with the Batman's childhood and with his nightmares. I do not think that it was really necessary to put his childhood in this movie. So we have slow beginning, a small fight Batman v Superman and a predictable ending

Seven angry Batmans out of ten. =/

It has more of a Watchman feeling than an Avenger, which is completely fine. Not all movies have to be the same, and I tend to prefer a good story than just mindless action.

It's true that this film is dark and gritty...
Though it may not be for little kids, it's certainly more themed for teens and more adult audiences which dare to venture away from the light fluffy hero's...
When you think of a superman, with all that power, or Batman with his brutish methods and gadgets in the past, you'll find yourselves wishing that they would go to more extremes with their powers/talents and this film will show you that....
This Batman is straight from the comics, he really is a dark knight who's just finding his purpose again...
This Superman has the potential, though he's not quite the boy scout that we've known Superman to be, I believe that he's getting there and these films are showing his journey to become a greater Superman
All in all....it was a great movie, though they would have had more success if they had a better and more clearer scenes for the Flash!!!!
-The Flash is now an established DC hero who has the backing/following from the hit TV show, they needed to use and exploit that to excite fans for his next appearance/major film - Much in the way they did for Wonder Woman, but just with a decent, eventful, and clear scene with the Flash!
I loved this film, every film has flaws, but it doesn't stop it from being great and a glimpse of whats to come!!!

I came to movie with low expectations and left greatly and pleasantly surprised by what I saw. DC view on superhero ganra differs from Marvel, this movie in particular is dark and especially Ben Affleck pulls out the dark, tired and hedonistic Batman excellently, making him my second most favorite Batman.

Let me say first that as someone from outside Western world, I have not read in my youth the comics, so fe I didnt have problems with Lex Luthor character being shifted from comics one. I loved the idea of resentment towards Superman and fears of people due to his god-like power, why Batman saw a danger in him, the plot for most part made sense and the fact that it tried something new, abandoning Marvel fun-and-fight was a dangerous, but good step by director. However, I feel that some segments didnt have to be in movie as it made it too full of substories - rise of metahumans, WonderWoman and perhaps even Doomsday.

Overall however I had FUN watching this movie and that is a breaking point. I was watching the screen without being bored or tired for more than 2 hours, something not that many movies can do for me and it should be your most important measurement. As such, highly above expectations, load of fun, new and untried dark look at superhero saga with quality acting by Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Jesse Eisenberg, intriguing plot with some misteps here and there and some **** epic fights. Solid 8/10.

The expectations for this film are huge, and sadly to say, it disappoints. I find it funny regarding counter-culture backlash of people saying if you don’t understand or love comicbook movies, you won’t get it. I’ve been deeply into comicbook before most of these people were born, so I’m pretty sure I get it. The problem is the film simply isn’t very good, period. There are long, empty scene, and so many shallow plot devices, it takes away so much from enjoying the film. The ending is rush and smashed together to set up Justice League. Perhaps it will be tied together in JL, but I’m not counting on it. Expand

I still think the movie is worth the watch, mainly because of its last 30 minutes, but expect to sit through a lot of crap to get there.
First of all, the the good things: Ben Affleck is great as Batman. To give a new edge to a character that has been done to death allready is the only thing this movie has going except the action scenes and its all due to Afflek. His Batman is even darker, more brutal and violent than ever before and while many fans won't appreaciate that, I think it was the right way to portray the character for this movie. Henry Cavill as Superman is the same as he was in MoS, if you liked him there you will like him here too. Wonder Woman just shows from time to time doing nothing until revealing her power in the final battle, but other than fanservice she adds nothing to the movie. But the worst character is Lex Luthor. This might be the worst antagonist of any movie that I've seen in the last few years. Whowever thought of making Lex Luthor a hipster version of Ledger's Joker was out of his mind. Not only is his personality annoying as hell, but his motivation and actions make no sense. I had no idea that I will see a villain even worse than Kylo Ren from the Farce Awakens anytime soon, but congratulations to Jesse Esenberg for pulling that off.
The biggest problem however is the story which is very convoluted and most times doesn't make any sense. The fact that they also try to add social and political commentary as well as as kindergarden phislosophical themes makes it even worse. Its not as pretentoius as Watchmen, Snyder's other opus, but its still way too grimdark for a movie about characters that were written for kids.
Fortunatelly, the actions scenes are worth it. For all his flaws, Snyder is still one of the best at directing action. Wether its Batman fighting some mercs in hand to hand combat or Superman and Wonder Woman having an over the top fight with something that looks like a troll from Lord of The Rings, the action is miles above the crap you see in Marvell Movies.
Overall its not as bad as critics make it out to be but also not as good as it could have been. Still, if you are a fan and want to see a different kind of superhero movie than the hipster, self aware, made by comitee tripe Disney has to offer you should check it out

After the excellent Nolan trilogy, we have come to know of a darker, bolder Batman far fetched from Keaton or Clooney. But, Zack Snyder still thinks of superhero films as boom-boom, bang bang, high budgeted blockbusters, and he certainley delivers us one here. It's really dark, violent and gritty entertainment with amazing fights and great acting with the highlight being the wonderful Gal Gadot and the amazing Ben Affleck as Batman. Henry Cavill felt overshadowed by all the big stars including Jeremy Irons and of course Jesse Eisenberg. I felt like his Superman wasn't as fleshed out as Christopher Reeve or Brandon Routh. Eisenberg was OK in his role as Lex Luthor although they could have done better casting, the jokes don't fall and he isn't insane enough as Kevin Spacey. Ben Affleck knocked it out of the park, I think he is up there in the top with Keaton and Bale. I was shocked to see how faithful Snyder is to the comics, which is a good things sometimes, except when you misuse this power like he has, you get an uneven, packed film that gives you absolutely no time to breathe and render what you have seen, things move quick and there is absolutely nothing human about the film at all because of this. That aside there are brilliantly paced action scenes and the Batmobile chase is going to keep you on the edge of your seat. This has to be one of the darkest DC Comics movie since The Dark Knight, with violent and creepy dream sequences and very violent fights between Batman and Superman. Overall, this is a decent movie that stays faithful to the comics and has some brilliant acting and good action, but it's terribly long, uneven and Doomsday is just crammed it just like everything in the movie. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really enjoyed the movie - felt true to the characters, and did a great job of foreshadowing the larger metahuman world out there. Much prefer this interpretation to the sanitized world depicted in marvel movies. Would have liked more of the b v s fight, but even in the book, that wasn't a large number of panels - the years since have made the battle larger. Affleck well conveys the psychotic rage that would have to drive someone willing to do what the batman does. Don't get the anti-doomsday crowd at all. The lead-up to DD was a little rushed, but overall made sense in context. WW was awesome, wish they had kept that more of a surprise, but can't wait to see her movie, and felt she was an effective part of this one. Expand

I loved it! This is one of those movies where I would dump the critics and go watch.

This film is dark. Really dark. Batman not an all moral character in this movie. He hurts people and he shoots them too, but that's the intention. The film is meant to make you question the brutality of superheroes. I know we all love the comic book and cartoon version of the Batman who can kick every bodies ass without shooting a bullet, but the reality of the film is that he just can't do that all the time. At some point he has to shoot back, and, yes, bad people will die. In his defense, Batman doesn't kill any good people. That burden is placed on Superman.

This entire movie hinges on a line that Alfred delivers, "Men become monster when they feel powerless". Batman felt powerless in the presence of Superman and is hell bend on killing him.

I must also mention that Wonder Woman is beautiful, and Ben as Batman is a much better pick than I had originally thought.

If you have elected to see this movie for the intense fight between
Batman and Superman and the action scenes, you will get it! Now if you
are a movie goer looking for more than the kick butt action, like me,
it will not deliver. The movie was long with terrible pacing; jumping
from scene to scene which created nothing but confusion. The amount of endless
dream scenes, even though understanding their purpose, were not needed in my opinion.
The actors on a whole were not bad and offered an adequate portrayal of
the characters in the film, but fell victim to some average writing and poor
directing. Ben Affleck portrayed the ominous character of Batman, but
his screen presence was mediocre at best. Him as Bruce Wayne, the secret
identity of Batman, was fine. When Batman was first introduced in this
film he was true to his character, operating in the shadows, hearing
only screams, and making a quick escape. This did not hold true as he
transitioned into a loud, running with weapons ablaze, and just having
all-out brawls.Though a lot of fans praised the new darker portrayal of Batman who has no problem taking lives I wasn't that impressed. Jesse Eisenberg, I feel may get the "short end of the
stick" for his Lex Luther role, because he displayed the character in
different demeanor, as he portrayed more of a psychotic genius having a
joker type feel to it. I will admit I was skeptical at the beginning of the film, but as it progressed Lex
Luther became likable. Gal Godat as Wonder Woman didn't have enough
screen time to deem her good or bad for the role but I didn't dislike
what I saw. Overall the movie was below average and probably slightly better
than "Man of Steel."

Though admittedly Batman v Superman suffers from a lot of pacing, characterization and plot issues, there is still a very likeable and, in some aspects, tremendous movie underneath the flaws.

Starting by addressing the positives, and the biggest positive to take out of this movie is that Ben Affleck is, in my opinion, the best on screen Bruce Wayne/Batman we have ever received. The scenes at the beginning of the movie setting up Batman's motives, as well as answering the question from Man of Steel of "Where was Batman?", are among the best scenes within the movie, and the dynamic between Bruce and Alfred (who was brilliantly portrayed by Jeremy Irons) is something that is underused considering how much else is crammed into the film. The action though out the film is exceptional, which is one of the aspects that Zack Snyder does not disappoint on in any of his films. Though it takes a while to get there, the fight between Batman and Superman really highlights the strengths of both heroes, from Batman's clever gadget use to Superman's brute force. Going back to Batman, the scene that sees him take out a room full of thugs is something straight out of the comics or Arkham games, and it's the brutal, terrifying Batman that we deserve. Wonder Woman, surprisingly, is also a highlight in the movie, and her part in the battle with Doomsday is, arguably, the best part of the whole movie. The reason I say Wonder Woman is a highlight and not Gal Godot is that, without the action, Gal speaks no more than 12 lines in the movie. Can she hold her solo movie scheduled for next year? That remains to be seen, but the Wonder Woman character as a whole was used brilliantly. The score and musical themes, Wonder Woman's in particular being exceptional, are all fantastic.

I will not use the term 'main issues' because there would be too many 'main issues' to discuss, so I will highlight what particularly dragged this film down from my point of view. Jesse Eisenburg is horribly miscast. Though admittedly he does not play Lex Luthor, as he plays his son Alexander, this character was flawed every time he appeared on screen, and the mannerisms that Eisenburg adds to the character are totally unwelcome and no different to any of his other performances in any of his other movies. Though Batman's motives were explained excellently, that left the motives of Superman slightly up in the air. As I can't really discuss this without spoilers, all I will say is people, including myself, will be disappointed as the motives are no where near as driven and determined as those of Batman. Adding on, apart from Batman, pretty much every character involved in the movie is hugely underdeveloped. Focus is lost on Superman, Alexander Luthor's motives are unclear thoughout, Jeremy Iron's Alfred is hugely underutilized and Doomsday as a whole made me think, does anyone really care about this poor creature? Though the action is incredible once Doomsday enters the fray, bringing him in is completely rushed, and therefore non-comic fans will not realise how big a threat Doomsday actually is, as his introduction has absolutely no significance on the story for most fans. Horrendous editing will make most movie-goers confused, as it seems in some parts of the movie there seem to be scenes missing out, whether the editors just cut scenes out at will to drag the movie down to two and a half hours remains to be seen. The actors also did very well to work with some dialogue, due to some poor writing, but even actors of Henry Cavill's standard can not rescue some truely awful written lines. Finally, plot twists and dream sequences that would make sense to die-hard comic fans might leave regular viewers out in the cold. Even I, a huge DC fan, had to look up some things in the film as soon as I got home, as it was left unclear throughout the film.

There are parts of this movie that people will love, and parts that people will absolutely hate. Within all the flaws there are some extraordinary little gems of dialogue or well-worked sequences that really pick up parts of the movie, but those parts are only let down by other aspects of the film. It is not the 9/10 or 10/10 that everyone wanted or expected it to be, but I was still on the edge of my seat and did not want the two and a half hour movie to end. From a fan's perspective, I could have given this movie a 7/10 just because I can finally see my two favourite superheroes on screen together for the first time, with some incredible action. But, I feel 6/10 is an above-par score for an above-par movie. I recommend everyone to go and watch it, just lower your expectations, and you'll have a blast.

What to say, except it was the best, the absolute best that I had the chance to see. Two and a half hour of pure wonder. I was knocked out and cannot move at the end. And surely not the only one. Half of the room stayed until the very end of the credits, even knowing there was no post scene. This is an experience.

I saw it a second time this morning. What to say, except that the second time is as wonderful as the first! What we lose in surprise, we gain in reading depth. And sincerely, each moment is worthwhile in this movie. That’s a real superhero movie, a real DC movie, with all its mythological dimension, its moral dimension, the treatment of Gods among men, so proper to DC comics. We are very far from Marvel (or Fox) movies, would it be in frivolity, stakes, or confrontations. Very far from ordinary (or extraordinary) men who surpass themselves in some exceptional moments, but stay focused first on human preoccupations. Here it’s real gods hidden among us, whose everyday life is their real mask, but whose real nature is, each day, in their heroic dimension. Far from any Marvel yeah. But so DC… ♥

It was amazing seeing my favorite parts in Batman comics come to life. His fighting style was nearly identical to the Arkham game series down to the gadgets and I loved every second of it. I thought the CGI was good for the most part... At times the story was a little bit messy. Take the movie for what it is and stop comparing it to the Dark Knight trilogy and the Marvel movies. Expand

My thoughts and review on BVS.
It is good, a very simple film with cool action and stuff.
I always thought that a good review should consist of pro and con,so I will include both starting with the con
Con
1)Plot hole that made the movie stupid.
2)Eastern Eggs, I always feel that fan service is unnecessary and sometime it spoil the story telling.
3)Nightmare batman, the costume design is stupid. Personally I don't like the scene of his appearance too but that is because I am a dc fan, normal movie goers will find the scene Okie.
4)ending scene, it is actually nothing bad but people are used to marvel way of separating the ending into two (ending scene and post credit ending scene). It will take some time for people (including me) to get use to it.
Pro
1)Just one pro , simple , cool and ENJOYABLE
I m not a film maker, so I really cannot understand what is meant by bad editing or bad flow. Overall the con doesn't steal away my enjoyment in the movie. Dc fans may hate it because they may prefer another canon stories, but I love it.

It has a lot of catching up to do and hence it burdens the film. For 1 1/2 hour, the film is essentially a slow build up. It explains the world, it explains who Batman is, what's happening to Superman, and many other things. It creaks under its own weight. But somehow due to the commitment of its cast, and the 'manic' energy of its director, Dawn of Justice pulls through. Let's get this out of the way: the critics are not wrong in pinpointing the film's pitfalls, but by giving it such a low score, it also does the audience a great disservice. It is a great film, but clearly not the best there is. An apt comparison is of reading two graphic novels in one sitting (and it is based on two of them: to state the titles will spoil the flick ;P). Revelations: Affleck is a great Wayne / Batman. Gal Gadot...wow. The new Wonder Woman film couldn't come any sooner. Watch it and support it. It is not the Transformers of superheroes as the critics would call it. Expand

All the bashing it gets is definitely undeserved. One review I've read from some Hollywood snob critic, said it was bad because there was no love story between Batman and Superman. Are you **** kidding me? Casual moviegoers are bashing it because they expect more comedy, more punchlines, more Marvel. I'm glad they left that to Marvel (well, except maybe for that "I thought she's with you" line which didn't ruin the movie anyway). Instead we get a more serious-toned superhero movie with bad-ass action sequences and beautiful imagery, which is what i expected going in. And i loved it. Sure it has it flaws, plot holes and what not... but that doesn't justify 28% on rotten tomatoes, while Civil War gets 94% which puts it's on par with classics like Pulp Fiction, Star Wars - A New Hope, and better!! than Scarface or The Matrix. Yeah right. Expand

Stars Wars FA broke records and most critics loved it...for hard core fans...it was a recycled crap and not a whole lot complained.

This movie wasn't all that bad at all...it was laying the groundwork for future movies. What I didn't like:
- the actor playing Lex Luthor....tried too hard to the point of being annoying.
- 15min could have been cut that was spent on rehashing Bruce's parents death...
- the mega monster lacked imagination ...
- Alfred should have been played by someone way older...

Other than that..it was a good movie. Affleck actually did OK as batty.

for those wondering or complaining about it being incoherent....well, those are the types that don't like reading a good book or would rather text than call about breaking up!

Fearing the actions of Superman are being left unchecked, The Dark Knight takes on the Man of Steel, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. With a new threat arising, it's up to Superman and Batman to set asideFearing the actions of Superman are being left unchecked, The Dark Knight takes on the Man of Steel, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. With a new threat arising, it's up to Superman and Batman to set aside their differences and stop the destruction of the world, their home. With a new cast of heroes and villains joining the universe that was setup brilliantly in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman cranks it up to 11, and as enjoyable as it may be, if falters along the way.

Dawn of Justice sees a new Bruce Wayne / Batman introduced for this universe, and i'm happy to say Ben Affleck nails this role as an older, more aggressive vigilante. His side of the story is well developed, there's a solid foundation on why he doesn't trust Superman and how he goes about planning his downfall. It may take a solo film to show how he became this way, but for now Affleck may be the best Batman yet. The new Alfred in Jeremy Irons and the returning Laurence Fishburn as Perry White are the older, wiser characters that provide much needed words of advice for our heroes. Superman himself Henry Cavill has a slightly lesser time of progressing his character this time round, and actually looks rather stoic in some key scenes. Yet him and Amy Adams' Lois Lane are the real heart of this story, and the closing scenes may get you a bit teary eyed. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is very good, even though she only has a dozen lines in the whole film. To see her in action during the last act is probably the best vindication for her casting. The inclusion of minor roles for Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy give the sense of a more realised Metropolis. And finally there is Lex Luthor, an eccentric and manic take on the famous villain played by Jesse Eisenberg. This performance will either rub you the wrong way or you won't mind it much. In my opinion it works, with all his ticks and dark turns. Although different from previous incarnations, he embodies the qualities of Luthor, but only just.

The plot and subplots are engaging but uneven in presentation, so there's a lot of potential that feels squandered. For a film titled Batman v Superman, we never really see the two of them at odds enough. The motivation for them to fight is more down to misunderstanding. The introduction (or tease) of other Justice League members during one scene in particular, although interesting, felt rushed. In fact the film just tries to include too many ideas from sources like The Dark Knight Returns, Red Son and another that surprised me, which was my big worry going in. And despite all that, without doubt the most geeky, fanboy moment was the Knightmare Batman scene, weird and bizarre in all it's glory, a huge tease for what's to come in the franchise.

The film has a more comic book style than most, it never drags and gets to the point quickly, moving like a breeze. Yet annoyingly the structure of certain scenes felt jarring, like it's about to reach greatness but then diverts to subplots that are either uninteresting or take too long to resolve. The last act is the biggest victim of this.

For whatever problems the film has, I feel it's dark and grim tone is not one of them.. The DC comics have always been known for their psychological and political themes, so i'm fully on board with the direction taken for this new universe. There are moments of humour from Perry White, Alfred and others several times throughout the film to break up the tension, so any accusations of this being joyless are just plain false. Definitely not the 'wink wink at the audience' kind of jokes that some comic book films offer, but enough to make these characters memorable. In saying that, there are moments of horror and brutality that may be too much for younger children.

The action scenes, when they finally arrive, are superbly shot. Batman's hand to hand combat against thugs is fast and fierce, while his showdown with Superman is the spectacle you would expect. The batmobile and batwing make appearances, they look and sound as frightening as ever. The final battle is given the 'everything including the kitchen sink' treatment, an explosion of CGI that some will love and others hate.

Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL once again have produced a fantastic score to accompany this film. The standout tracks for me are the epic 'Their War Here' and the emotional 'Men Are Still Good'. And of course the Wonder Woman theme 'Is She With You' is ideal for the Amazonian heroine's grand appearance. Oddly, there are scenes where the music becomes intruding and loud when a more subtle approach was required.

As much as i loved watching these iconic characters finally on screen together, i feel it's a step back from the more focused Man of Steel. Wether it's the direction under Zack Snyder or the writing by Chris Terrio, Warner Bros need to make changes to hit a home run next time round. The critics have made their feelings known, but Batman v Superman feels like one for the fans.

Did you think it couldn't get worse than Man of Steel? Well boy were you wrong. Picking up from where Man of Steel left off the story continues, and we get more destruction, a sorry excuse at building tension between the characters, more destruction, oh look there's Wonder Woman, and an ending that seemed endless.
I'm not even going to fault Henry Cavill or Ben Affleck, they're far from the biggest problem (I don't particularly like Affleck as Batman but at least he didn't sink as bad as Val Kilmer). A superhero movie is only as good as its villain and we've got two of the worst in a long time. Lex Luthor played by Jesse Eisenberg and Doomsday (and no that's not a spoiler cause it's in the freakin' trailer). I'm not going to forgive Zach Snyder for this mess of a movie and I'm certainly not going to forgive Eisenberg for the most over acted and ridiculous performance of his career. Over the top and manic, almost like he tried to combine every villain character into one, it's just awful. No point in me giving a recommendation, if you like superhero movies you're going to see this no matter what I say, just like I went to see it, and that's why we'll get another one.
