Overall, though, Snyder did well with blending Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" with parts of the animated movie "Justice League War" and the storyline of Superman v Doomsday. At first, I was worried about the casting of Affleck as Wayne/Batman, but after seeing his performance, I was very impressed. Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Luthor was pretty good for what they were going for and I can see him becoming an even stronger character in future projects. Gal Gadot was a brilliant casting and has the potential to really deliver in the Wonder Woman role. Overall, very well done movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So.......i have heard the basic general review all over the web about batman ans superman being not to great other the lex luthor being amazing. How the movie was bland or to hyped up, and lex luthor was perfectly played. I found the complete oposite experience actually. Im not saying the movie was extraordinary and mind blowing. Im saying that that i enjoyed it other then lex luthor. Now im not as versed in the comic book world as i should be, but i found the portrail of lex rather annoying then menacing as you would think he would be. Sort of joker esk if you will. Otherwise i think its a fun and pretty alright movie just like the other dc and marvel movies that have been released. Expand

I thought the action was solid.
I bought and understood all of the characters emotions.
I believed them based on the context of the world they built between this one and Man of Steel.
I also totally bought Ben Afleck as old man Batman, and Henry Cavill did a good job being conflicted about the end of his battle with Zod from the first film.

Zack Snyder reaches his ambitious goal, thanks to his new hero, performed by Ben Affleck, perfectly in part and added value of the film (he's really superb here). Thanks to the actor of Berckley, Bruce Wayne captures an unusual maturity, intended as desire introspective too, and a charm with sensual veining, presage of a change which, I hope, the screenplay will outline more clearly in the work ahead.
My vote is 7.5.

Much better than those stupid Fast And Furious movies.
And actually better than Iron man 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (There is a tl;dr at the bottom)This film is not the best, but that does not mean you should not see this movie. As a person that has not seen many Batman movies (Boo!), Ben Affleck was still a great Batman based on regular acting standards. The rest of the cast is great, especially Amy Adams and Gal Gadot. There are some unnecessary scenes , and some things are left unanswered(Like superman's death, which was beyond upsetting and sad). Jesse Eisenburg is tolerable, but far from great. The film also has a ton of destruction, and that the Climax came from Micheal Bay's wet dream but whatever. Doomsday was unnecessary, and it could have just been Lex that brings the heroes together.

TL:DR Great acting, unnecessary stuff, tons of explosions. Sad ending

Let me preface this by saying I'm a comic book and Superman fan.

This was a good and entertaining movie. I had no trouble following it like some have been claiming. My only complaint is too much was crammed into it. It's a comic book film that takes itself seriously (I like that) and doesn't bombard the audience with one liners and corniness every three minutes. A few of the scenes in this movie were very dark, and I liked that. I believe Superman was given excellent treatment for those of you worrying.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Re-watched BvS earlier and I still don't understand all the hate. The criticisms I had after the first watch soon felt petty. Flaws were present, sure, but the aesthetics and just the keen sense of realism it exuded made me doubt the critics/reviews I read after more - especially the ones making a huge fuss about its flaws like it's the worst they've seen. First and foremost, it's not bad. At all. The cinematography was beautiful - it felt like I was flipping pages from a graphic novel.
Superman, however "depressing" he seemed to others, gave me the impression of growth and vast introspection. I was blind to his character growth because I was too busy thinking he's supposed to just do the right thing and be Superman and not think. But he wasn't just Superman. Behind the cape, he was still battling a sense of responsibility and self-entitlement he owed to nobody, constantly weighing himself on flat ground.
Ben Affleck absolutely killed it as both Batman and Bruce. Still, Batman didn't make all the right decisions and that's his biggest imperfection - that he's still a mortal, a human - flawed, even after being in the business for 20 years. Ultimately imo, that gave more room for the future films to further elaborate what this character could be. The dream sequences/visions made more sense too. I thought they were unnecessary at first but it showed a disturbed Bruce Wayne. Bruce was never a mentally healthy person, adding that to his age and it made sense to me why he acted in ways he did. He's more experienced and he doesn't go dilly dallying.
Lex Luthor also made more sense. His motives have been, for the most part, underlying. He's conniving, manipulative and pure evil. He dropped hints here and there, revealed his nature, his intentions, but I think it flew over my brain during the first screening. He's a really twisted Lex. I believe Eisenberg's performance was not lacklustre in any range. If anything, he pulls it off. Just differently. His character has a lot of potential, again, imo, to show different sides. He could be brooding, he could be sinister, insane, borderline Joker or all at once. Or everything he's shown up till now could all be pretense and part of a coping mechanism to suppress his madness.
Irons as Alfred was great casting!
Gal Gadot was a Goddess as Wonder Woman. She was just badass. Graceful, intelligent, beautiful. She had a reason for being in the film btw for all you saying she was pointless.

(Spoiler: LexCorp, Metahuman experiments. That was her reason.)

The 3rd act definitely could've used less CGI, but hey, in its defense, it was Doomsday.

The film has great depth. It mirrors more of ourselves and how we see things. Though it felt like cut scenes jumping from one another, the end tied it up together. It wasn't as incoherent as everyone is making it out to be. (At least for me.) It actually made sense in the end. It gradually tied up to the plot, played with a lot of symbols, used factors that seemed out of place but later connected little pieces. The editing was haphazard, but it's really just.. different than usual. It's divisive. It's like laying out various planks before placing each in correct positions to form a proper floor structure. Others may like it, others who don't like unfamiliar/odd would probably be annoyed with it. The movie had issues, many of which are obvious and piques the interests of negative press, but it was a great watch and imo succeeded in launching a platform for the DCEU. I was thoroughly entertained and kept on the edge of my seat.

Some issues with plot and character use however both batman and wonder woman portrayed spot on. The dream sequences could confuse those with less prior knowledge/ experience of the DC universe Superman has the biggest challenge both in motivation and connection to the audience. Very wooden in delivery not much hope or anything to really like about superman. I do feel that too much was shared during the lead up and it takes away from the overall experience (common issue during trailers and pre release campaign these days ). Very dark could use some softer moments would improve overall experience. Lex could be less cartoonie at times more devious like some of the recent videos overall he was ok. Special effects were great some gaps in fight sequence s . Thought doomsday was much better that critical press on the character. Look forward to both batman and wonder woman in the future hope they continue to steal the show. I really feel the professional press/critics are ganging up on a movie they never gave a chance. Ben Affleck's Batman is spectacular. Finally we get the fight scenes and the acrobatics Batman is known for in Frank Miller's comics. Gal Gadot was equally spectacular as Wonder Woman. And Henry Caville is Superman. Period.
Lex Luthor was the only poor casting choice in my opinion. Came off as a college nerd douche bag, instead of an evil mastermind.
Ignore the horrible reviews and go see this movie. Critics must be bought and paid for by the Goldmans, because they are dead wrong with their scores.

PEOPLE HATE WHAT THEY DONT UNDERSTAND -- Martha Kent.

Movie is good I don't know if some critics are even relevant when it comes to super heroes movies. It has flaws yes but the good things outweighs the bad ones. The characters are on point, the entire cast was amazing, Affleck best batman so far and Gadot was great as WW, Henry has flesh out his Superman acting as well. The villain of the movie (Lex Jr.) has very good motives I think this is one of a few villains in super heroes movies done right because this is not Lex Luthor Father this is Alexander Luthor Son which is just psychotic from his parent abuses. There are 3 plot lines but they all converge at the end and form one so I don't know why is that a problem either. I think a 4 "plot line" could be the teases but they are just that TEASES of something greater that to be frank I want to see. Overall the movie is great, I think it has a good balance between action and character development and yes there is character development and whoever tell you otherwise don't understand this movie at all.

Maybe a lot of people will be disagree with me, but it's my opinion: I like the first part of this film more than the second one.
Also, I've heard many bad comments about Ben Affleck. Some people don't like him as a Batman, some don't like him as an actor either. I watched "Gone girl" with him and I liked it. But when I saw him as Batman, I thought that he is great!

Ignore the critics - this is a great film.

It is true to the tone on Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and "Man of Steel", so admittedly if you exclusively prefer the lighter tone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the recent DC films, then this probably won't be for you. Also, much of the criticism Snyder has received for his editing of the film is deserved, it could have been alot better.

Finally, we get more and alternative Batman origin material, which for this generation of moviegoer is unnecessary, and so is a bit of wasted time.

But that's about as much negative as I can say about this film.

The story is excellent in it's objective of being a starting point for the Justice League. It shows how three untrusting and crash-burned superheroes are forced together to deal with a different level of threat, explaining and justifying the changes in their respective outlooks and how it will lead into their forming a team.

Ben Affleck is excellent as Batman and Bruce Wayne. His is an older, more experienced character. Christian Bale's Batman was young, idealistic, and on a crusade with clear boundaries of how far he would go to deal with threats to Gotham. Affleck's character has seen too much and been let down too often to have any limits any more. His is a pragmatic, pitiless and righteous exponent of rage. Whereas BatBale was the survivor guilt-ridden symbol of hope and opposition to the evil in Gotham; his mask was that of the playboy, as he struggled to balance his public and "professional" identities. BatFleck is simply the solution and the warning to anyone who wants to keep threatening his town; there is little difference now between the man and the mask.

Henry Cavill is also excellent as Superman. I loved "Man of Steel", and i'm glad he hasn't given in to any critical pressure to change the character he delivers. This film has Superman asking himself why he even bothers, and gives him just enough room amongst the ensemble to grow the character a bit more.

Gal Gadot didn't get as much time as most would of liked, but she delivered in the time she was given, and I can't wait to see her in Justice League and the first Wonder Woman film.

As a whole the film itself stripped-down, blunt and brutal. It fits alot in, whilst simultaneously having a bit of extraneous fat that could've been wisely edited out. Overall however, this is a great film. Give it a chance and you will walk out happy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really don't understand the reviews that say the plot makes no sense, or too many things that are unconnected going on. Everything is connected through Alexander Luthor and may seem disjointed, but just have to use a little brain power to see whats going on. The biggest downside to the movie is Snyder. He makes some visually beautiful scenes, but at the loss of substance. Superman falls really flat in this movie. There were some scenes that could have been great with better displays of emotion, instead you see Snyders influence with movie poster shots. If you like Injustice, you will love this movie. One major complaint I had was the darkness with Superman, but after thinking more about it I realize this isn't the superman i grew up with. That superman comes onto the scene and everyone loves him and accepts him. This supe is met with skepticism and paranoia by the government. Also, here Lois knows his identity before she ever really knows Clark. Supe didnt have those years of spending his energy hiding his secret identity and having Lois fall for Clark. That translates into him immediately putting all his focus into his relationship with Lois here, and not having that outlet of hiding who he is, his love for her is almost infatuated. That changes his mindset and judgement, and makes it much easier for him to go dark. That plus the public lack of acceptance changes everything from the old superman story. This movie is a great setup for the DC universe, and if they go the Injustice route it explains why all franchises in this universe need to be dark.

I still hate the Flash casting here though, but loved the cameo.

The action, dialogue, direction, and cinematography perfectly wrap into one cohesive film. This is my current favorite Batman. You can just tell after all the years of Gotham going to hell with no end in sight he has lost his morals. Bruce Wayne is brutal like never before. I can't make this review and not speak about Henry Cavil's Superman. Superman in this film is simply put, "A Graphic Novel translated to film". The scenes involving Superman are just so iconic and immersive in this universe Warner Brothers have crafted. The only negative I have about the film is the inclusion of some of the Justice League scenes. They weren't particularly "bad", they just felt a tad out of place.

Overall this film is amazing. Easily beats out recent comic book films like Ultron or Ant Man. I'd highly recommend watching this, and I am certainly picking up the Ultimate Edition when it releases.

DC/Warner is unapologetically not being Marvel, and that's okay. We've just seen so many Marvel movies that the contrast of BvS can be jarring, as they have chosen to dwell on the larger world view of a God being a reality for people and what that means to all sorts of people.

The movie is not without flaws. It is long in the middle, with hard cuts that disrupt the pacing. Lex is very manic, and I personally like my Lex Luthor to be older and more calculating. Most importantly, the tiny plot points that hinted at where this story is going will be completely missed by non-comic readers... which will definitely affect your opinion of the overall film (i.e. Most Critics).

This movie was VERY ambitious, and probably tried to do too much too soon, but it is not horrible. The fact that BvS is 30% worse than the Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Rotten Tomatoes makes me believe that something actually IS up. I would watch BvS 100 more times before watching AS2 once more.

At the end of the day, I am very excited for the universe they are creating, and I'm happy I get to see it.

Critics suck. There is nothing wrong with this movie, especially if you are a fan of the characters. The action sequences are big and loud and pack a serious punch. The action sequences are big and loud and pack a serious punch. It did feel like DC and Warner Bros. were trying to play catch-up with Marvel and included way too many things in this movie. This did cause the plot to be confusing or a bit weak at times. However, they always cleared up my questions and I came out with a clear sense of where this thing is going in the future.

I hated the choice of Affleck as Batman, but after seeing the movie I am sold. Gal Gadot was also great as Wonder Woman. I didn't so much care for Amy Adams as Lois Lane or Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It felt like they kept throwing Lois into these crazy situations just so Adams could get her screen time. And Eisenberg did a good job of playing crazy, but Luthor is usually more subtle than this. Eisenberg took it way over the top.

POSITIVES:
1) Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
2) Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman
3) Fun, big action sequences
4) Lots of comic references for DC fans

NEGATIVES
1) Amy Adams as Lois Lane
2) Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor
3) Some poor CGI (especially during Doomsday's initial introduction)
4) Plot can be a bit confusing/hard to follow.

All in all, I enjoyed this film. I'm also a huge Batman fan so I'm probably a bit biased. But if you enjoy these characters, ignore the critics and see the movie. Is it on par with what Nolan and Christian Bale were doing? No. But I think it's a solid sophomore effort for DC's new cinematic universe and am looking forward to what comes next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was a pleasant movie, filled with action and a great story, still, I didn't get the fulfilment while watching it. Even though I felt the hype for the appearance of a lot of the Justice League members, I wasn't satisfied by it, not because I wanted more, but because (in my own mind) the self mystery of the characters and their vague mentions could have been perfect. I will join others in confusion as to why critics were SO harsh towards this film.

Was it flawed? Sure, and it fell short of a perfect comic film. However, to deny that this is a well-crafted film, even if you don't like its content, is folly.

The performances of Gadot and Batfleck were absolutely breathtaking. Jeremy Irons's Alfred was both wise and snarky, which led to some perfect banter. In fact, Laurence Fishburne's conversations with both Clark and Lois brought a sense of importance to the position of the Daily Planet in American society, and humor to how bold and often reckless Clark and Lois are in their professional lives.

The sheer amount of comic references is staggering. To the point that it might overwhelm not only laymen, but casual fans [I've left out specifics, as they would be spoilers]. This might require that Dawn of Justice deserves more than one viewing, with which I agree. I feel this also led to the misconception that the narrative was disjointed, in that so many new elements were introduced as a comic book would.

One of the most direct criticisms would be some editing issues, but none that take away from the film significantly. Snyder's story already runs well over 2 hours, so certain unimportant scenes that last more than 2 minutes, and/or are told in slow motion, should have been cut. Those minutes would have been better served either shortening the end result, devoting them to important developments, or just saving them for the director's cut DVD.

Dawn of Justice displays the consequences of Superman's power and decisions, as well as the emotional and mental weight of Batman's decades-long career. Make no mistake, it's a serious, ambitious, and operatic treatment. While there is a fair amount of humor (usually in the form of quips, awkward situations, and clever retorts), many critics found the serious treatment of this subject to be lacking in fun.

Well... it's a fight between two heroes, built upon the aftermath of a disaster. So yes, it is serious. But the DC universe will introduce funny and absurd elements (consider LEGO Batman), but this is not one of them. Go in with a good grasp of the source material, an open mind, and entertain graphic literature as a serious medium. This serious story also indicates Superman's lack of joviality, as his standing among the human race is at risk.

Even if you don't like the content, this film is "just okay" or "meh". Either way, it's well-crafted, and astoundingly ambitious. If not for the lowered expectations via critics, I'd give it 8/10, but I was surprised and spellbound repeatedly. So, I give it a 9/10.

I felt all of the actors did a great job with what they were given. The biggest problem for me was that it felt a little overstuffed. They tried to fit too many elements in to set up the DC extended film universe, at the expense of the core story of this film. Even at 2.5 hours, there wasn't enough time to fit in everything they attempted to, and things felt rushed and choppy at times. I am interested to see the 3 hour Ultimate edition to see if the added scenes will offset this problem.

Another major issue I had was with the design of Doomsday. How could they have gotten the designs of all 3 heroes costumes so right, and Doomsday so wrong. Being a huge fan of the comics, I know how fierce and menacing he SHOULD look. In the movie he looked like a giant hairless gorilla with soft rounded bony protrusions, when he should have been covered in razor sharp bone formations creating natural armour and weapons. I noticed that Weta Digital is listed in the credits as one of the VFX companies. I think they took one of the Orcs from the hobbit, made him bigger, and stuck a few bony bits and pieces in him and called it a day.

Overall, I did enjoy the film, and enjoyed it even more after a second viewing. I definitely want to revisit this universe, with these characters.

There does not seem to be much love from the critics and some of the more hardcore comic book fans.

My wife and I really enjoyed it. Compared to the comedic, popcorn-movie vibes that accompany the majority of the Marvel movies (which I also enjoy), this film plays out more like a drama - especially in the first two acts of the film.
Those who complain about Henry Cavill's "dark" Superman seem to only know the silver age version of the character and Christopher Reeve Brandon Routh's cheery, boyscout version of the hero. Superman in modern media has always been a tortured soul in the sense that he is the last of his people and not fully accepted by Earth's people - this film continues with those themes, of his wanting to help but being chastised by some of the media and politicians wanting to regulate his activities - yet there are others who see him as a god and want to worship him, while he only wants to belong and find his purpose on this world.

Ben Affleck's Batman is reminiscent of the "Arkham" video game version of the character, as well as being influenced by Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns in terms of costume design and attitude. This is the most comic booky version of the character we've seen in a live action film, and my personal favourite Batman yet. The warehouse fight scenes in particular are amazing in showcasing the skills and gadgets this Batman has at his disposal to take down street level thugs. Some might not like this Batman is a "killer" but save for one, nobody is seen to be outright murdered by Batman.

On the negative, some of the story elements don't really make much sense - for example how Superman was framed an incident in Africa, and some of Bruce's visions and dreams - but this is a minor gripe and doesn't detract from the experience too much. All in all, I would rate it a solid 7 or 8 out of 10.

DC/Warners have taken the bold move of making their own brand of movies rather than copy the Marvel blueprint and are getting lambasted for this. Critics just can't get it through their heads that there can be two brands of superhero movies. Those who lament the loss of Donner's Superman were probably the same people who criticised Singer for copying Donner. Affleck as Batman and Cavill as Superman are near perfect casting, whilst Gadot as Wonder Woman absolutely steals the show. In many ways this is a movie for comic fans. I can certainly see confusion among those who aren't comic-savvy. The movie has its issues, but it is ballsy movie-making that swung hard. Those who loathe this movie either went in with preconceived hate or are just attention seeking IMO. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm surprised and confused at first I expected this film but when he started to leave the reviews on Metacritic my expectation fell from 100 to 20 (on a scale from 0 to 100) I leave to the very happy, I really loved Ben Affleck as Batman, I liked the action scenes (especially the fight between Batman and Superman), I Liked Gal Gadot as Wonderwoman, Henry Cavill was acceptable Superman but was lower than in man of steel perhaps because he had to split the screen with Ben Affleck, I thought Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred pretty weird since Alfred seemed full of intellect film making it appear that the Batman is a dumb that moves by emotion and anger and Lex Luthor is more for Joker than Luthor, I did not like anything Apocalipe looked more like a Ninja Turtle, I did not like the excess Amy Adams (Lois Lane) even if it is ok in acting out, what I most hated of all the cast was Zack Snyder as he does not put rhythm in the film, puts useless things like the dreams of Batman, has time that superman is fighting with the apocalypse and nothing for all to rescue Lois Lane and kisses, want to mix the greatest works hq in m film of 2 hours and 30 minutes, that yes was the biggest problem of the film of course you have a few other things also as excess CGI, visual pollution also, many script holes put what most upset me in the film was a failure call Zack Snyder as director, and last and least the soundtrack of the film made by Hanz Zimmer (the Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Man of Steel) and Junkie XL (Mad Max Fury Road) that deliver expected of them with a trail Sensational sound.

Do you like Batman? Superman? the DC characters if so you will like the film is clear that not of to compare with the epic trilogy of Christian Nolan however is rather a little higher than the Man of Steel, worth the entry of money for a fan to someone who is not fan or who does not like good heroes movie maybe you will not like so much.

Does the movie have flaws? Sure! The same flaws that you can find in every other superhero film. IMHO, it's major flaw was trying to pack too much material in a single film. Warner should have respected and appropriated pace instead of trying to rush the delivery of Justice League film just to compete with Avengers.

A DC movie for DC fans, this is not for the casual movie-goer or for the typical Marvel fan that only likes the "Good guys are fine; Good guys are not fine; Good guys fight Bad Guys; Good guys win." structure that these kinds of movies usually have. This is a dark movie, not a comedy. It's plot is not perfect, but superhero movies do not usually have a perfect plot, people just tend to forgive them because of the light heart and the jokes.
First of all, this was the best Barman ever shown in the big screen. Affleck killed it, his cynical, rough and psychotic Batman truly represents the nature of the character. To people saying he is too hateful, to insane, that he should be a symbol of hope, i say: nope. A man that dresses as a bat and goes hit people every night has to be insane, he has to be damaged, he has to be a criminal. People jut don't like to think of heroes that way. He is not a symbol of hope for the people. He is a symbol o fear to the criminals, and of safety for the everyday man.
Of Superman, i say this: although not that interesting and even though this is more a Bat movie than a Sups one, Snyder really managed to capture what would happen if an overpowered alien simply arrived and started doing stuff without asking permission. Although not the best Superman around, it was decent at worst and managed to portray the character well, although he could be better. Also, loved the religious symbolism. People always tend to fixate their hopes on powerful figures.
Wonder Woman was incredible. Although her part on the movie was short, she was great in every single scene, exceeding Superman on awesomeness. Looking forward to the solo movie.
Luthor.... well, he's kind'of a hit or miss. It's obviously a different portrayal of the red haired son of the original Luthor, and it passes, but it could be better. It doesn't damage the film, but having Mark Zuckerberg as the big baddie just isn't very intimidating for me. Still had some great scenes and lines.
Doomsday..... not my cup of tea, very bad design, but oh well, the fight was epic, it's conclusion impressive, they even followed the comics somewhat in its resolution. They took a risk, and in the end it just kind' of worked.
Visually it's stunning.
Music was amazing.
The Justice League set up was lazy, but acceptable i guess. Loved the dream sequences.
Loved seeing Batman killing people, been wanting him to do that for ages (come on, so he throws people off rooftops but "he never kills". Right.)
Lots of references and influences of great comics, including Flashpoint, Injustice and especially The Dark Knight Returns.
Overall, a great movie, been expecting something like this for a long time. Not a masterpiece, not really well put together. Not that smart, not that rational. Had it been someone other than Batman and Superman it wouldn't have worked.
But guess what. It was them, and it did work.
Can't wait for more, just hope the hate doesn't kill DC while they're just beginning.

Having seen the film twice now, I think I'm ready to pass my judgement (for what it's worth).

As an avid fan of superheroes movies--and Superman and Batman in particular--but not so much the of comics medium that originally spawned them, I came to BATMAN VS SUPERMAN (BvS) from a different perspective than many of the critics who reviewed the movie poorly. Many of the negative comments I've seen are certainly valid, which is why I've rated the film an 8/10 as I have, but at the same time they do seem to have missed the point of this movie.

BvS has clearly set out to achieve two things:

1. To set up about 10 different story arcs for various future movies
2. To set the tone for all of those movies, where that tone is gritty and as realistic as they could make them

Regarding the first point, that the film sets up many future stories, I think they were supremely ambitious but misguided, and this indeed seems to be the source of most of the criticism--particularly those that I agree with. They have, to my mind, tried to squeeze too much into a single movie, which at times causes the story to become obscured, and there is way too much use of overly stylised content. On a second watching, most things are actually pretty well telegraphed, if you watch closely, so I have come to forgive the things that, on first viewing, appeared to be plot missteps. Nonetheless, I still think they tried to do too much in the one movie, and could have stood to stretch it out into two or even three movies.

Regarding the second point, though, that they have tried to set a gritty and as realistic tone for the DC movies that follow, I think they have done something I have long wanted to see. They have created a real-world view into a universe where people like Superman and Batman exist.

The world of BvS feels real to the mature viewer, which is something no previous interpretation of Superman has achieved, and something that Nolan's Batman series lost with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

But for all that I enjoy this mature new take, it seems that's the issue some people, particularly the self-proclaimed comics aficionados, have with it: it's maturity. The whining I've seen around geekdom about how "Superman doesn't kill!" or "Batman doesn't kill" has always struck me as juvenile thinking, a child clinging to a bygone period of their lives where Evil was always defeated by Good, and there were no shades of grey between.

To a mature viewer, that world is childish, and ultimately makes for dull and pedestrian viewing--as evidence, I submit the 1970s and '80s SUPERMAN movies (if you have you tried watching them recently, I think you'll know what I mean).

There's also this: in the real world, people like Superman and Batman would inevitably kill normal humans with grim regularity _by accident_, not necessarily intent. You can't read the news these days without a story about how someone fell awkwardly in a bar fight, hit his head and died. Add in all the serious hardware Batman has long thrown about, from the humble batarang to his more explosive toys, and the idea that he has not killed is beyond ludicrous. And that's just Batman...Superman, whose body is supposedly harder than steel, turns this equation up to 11--even a relatively soft punch from such a being would be like being hit by a crowbar. Now picture that crowbar hitting you on the head reasonably hard, and you can see why I think Superman has killed.

Yes, I think it's fair to say that, in the real world, someone like Batman or Superman would indeed kill people, and they'd kill often. So I challenge those who disagree to take off their rose-tinted glasses view of Batman's and Superman's world and ask yourself how could they possibly avoid killing people.

I don't believe they could, and I'm very happy to finally see a Superman and Batman interpretation that does not flinch from that.

I was not entirely impressed with Man of Steel because of the fast action, difficult to see CGI. I came out of the movie impressed and wanting to go do some D.C. Universe research... Yes, I much enjoyed the movie.

That said I'll start with the cons: I did not appreciate the fighting sequences between a certain (superman villain) and superman towards the end. I also felt it was out of character for a seasoned batman (played by Affleck) to have been manipulated to have suspicion or hate for superman. Also, I felt that Eisenberg / Lex-L was a miscast.

Pros: Easily the best batman fighting sequences depicted in any movie. Better Batman fighting than in the Nolan films. The sound effects were thrilling to say the least. I also really appreciated the foreshadowing dream / vision that batman has and the way by which Batman / Wayne learns of other hero / vigilantes.

It was great! Really. I liked the symbolism. I loved the graphics. I loved the hints and clues to other movies, but heres what I loved about the movie most. I cant imagine myself living in the Marvel universe. But I could totally imagine myself in the DC universe. Ironically, its because Synder managed to make me feel so helpless in the face of his heroes.. as I should be i guess. Batman was a little less relatable because the batman I loved "NEVER" made mistakes and "ALWAYS" had a trick up his sleeve. He just seemed a little weaker here. I'd definitely watch it again! Expand

Despite some editing and pacing issues, this easily became one of my favourite comic book films.

The film itself is quite dark, with very little humour. However this isn't necessarily a bad thing, the moments of humour were well done in my opinion, and the dark tone very much suited the story it was trying to tell.

Dialogue was on point, a huge improvement over Goyer's Man of Steel script. Even though you can tell that Terrio did not have much story input, he definitely improved the dialogue of the initial script. (Hence why Goyer is still credited)

Acting performances were 10/10, with Affleck getting a honourable mention as being my favourite live-action Batman yet. Eisenberg did well in his role of Lex Luthor in terms of the way the character was written. This iteration of Lex is very different to that of his comic book counterpart. More psychopath than egocentric genius, however it is a version that I very much enjoyed considering the overall plot. Gal Gadot showed a lot of promise as our first proper big-screen Wonder Woman. Even though we got a little taste of her, it certainly got me excited for her standalone film next year. (Plus she kicked ass!)

There were some issues for me personally with certain scenes not living up to expectations (mainly the court room sequence), as well as Superman/Clark's quarrel with Batman not being fully explored. In hindsight, it really felt like a rushed back-door pilot for the Justice League.

As a whole, it felt like 2 movies in one and felt more like Dawn of Justice rather than Batman v Superman.

With all that being said, it is still a great film with some obvious issues. Definitely a must-watch for anyone considering you go in with an open-mind. Don't expect this movie to be light-hearted and/or similar to previous iterations of Batman and Superman from live-action movies.

This review is for the Ultimate Edition:

The first time I saw BvS, I was a little disappointed. I expected the film to be something it wasn't. The second viewing was much better. I knew what to expect, and so enjoyed the film much more for what it was: flawed, but immensely entertaining. Some of those flaws are ironed out in the Ultimate Edition, some of them aren't.

The Ultimate Edition is absolutely a better version of the film, but it doesn't make it a different film altogether. Many of the scenes play out better, Superman's part in the film is more fleshed out, and the whole thing just has a better flow. That being said, I don't know anyone whose opinions it changed. The people who enjoyed the film before enjoyed the Ultimate Edition even more. The people who hated it, still hated it.

If you were on the fence about BvS, definitely check this edition out! It may change your mind. If you were a fan, I'm sure you've already seen it. If you hated it, you don't need to waste your time on the Ultimate Edition.

I came to movie with low expectations and left greatly and pleasantly surprised by what I saw. DC view on superhero ganra differs from Marvel, this movie in particular is dark and especially Ben Affleck pulls out the dark, tired and hedonistic Batman excellently, making him my second most favorite Batman.

Let me say first that as someone from outside Western world, I have not read in my youth the comics, so fe I didnt have problems with Lex Luthor character being shifted from comics one. I loved the idea of resentment towards Superman and fears of people due to his god-like power, why Batman saw a danger in him, the plot for most part made sense and the fact that it tried something new, abandoning Marvel fun-and-fight was a dangerous, but good step by director. However, I feel that some segments didnt have to be in movie as it made it too full of substories - rise of metahumans, WonderWoman and perhaps even Doomsday.

Overall however I had FUN watching this movie and that is a breaking point. I was watching the screen without being bored or tired for more than 2 hours, something not that many movies can do for me and it should be your most important measurement. As such, highly above expectations, load of fun, new and untried dark look at superhero saga with quality acting by Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Jesse Eisenberg, intriguing plot with some misteps here and there and some **** epic fights. Solid 8/10.

Snyder, though known for delivering flops, hit the ball out of the park with BvS:DoJ. I loved the film. I was entirely entertained, never felt the plot to be confusing, overly-fast nor contrived, and the acting was stellar, even in the case of the usually stoic and robotic Henry Cavill. The negative reviews for this film are in no way deserved, and even though the box office returns may have Warner Bros. worried, I as a fan am extremely excited for all the upcoming entries in the DC Universe.

8/10 only due to a few moments where Snyder (typically) over-used the slow motion effects and a few scenes that felt cut short. I'm amped for the release of the 3-hour Director's Cut this summer, as I believe almost all of the flaws to this otherwise fantastic movie will be resolved once Snyder has been given the ability to tell his story without the Studio's demand of a run-time or rating which would expand the audience.

I enjoyed the film from start to end however it did feel like they put the first of the film together well but realised they had to fit so much in the second half and that;s where it went downhill. Dont get me wrong, the visuals were fantastic however the outcome of the super fight aswell and the end fight scene seemed a little rushed. 8 out of 10 for this one and to hope they look at their errors and maximise justice league's potential! But some critics would have you believe that this is another Batman and Robin.

This movie is vastly better than any of the recent Amazing Spider-man movies (which did not receive anywhere near this level of criticism) and I liked it better than the Avengers.

In my opinion, this is the third best live-action Batman movie after Nolan's The Dark Knight and Batman Begins (yes, I thought it was better than The Dark Knight Rises).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Critics were hating this movie when the film came out. If you go on rotten tomatoes then you'll see that it's currently 27% on rotten tomatoes. Me as a huge superhero fan didn't give a **** about what the critics said. So i went to see Batman V Superman and i enjoyed it. Is it the best superhero movie ever made? No, but it's definitely one of the best in my opinion. So what did i like about the movie? One is Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He was the best thing in the entire movie and he had some bad ass scenes. Two is the action. It was spectacular and my personal favorite action scene was where Batman goes to a warehouse and just kicks a bunch of ass for about 4 minutes. Three is the rest of the cast. They did great as their characters, even though i thought that Jesse Eisenberg was a Joker like character rather than Lex Luthor but i'll let that pass. Now let's get to the cons of the movie. I didn't really like what Doomsday looked like and i thought it was WAY too early to introduce him. Also, i thought the fight between Batman and Superman was too short. The movie is called Batman V Superman and they only fight for like 10 minutes! Another one is that I didn't really like how there was TOO much cgi at the final battle and could of used a little more stunts. One more thing is that they kill off Superman. Yeah, you heard me, he dies and he was just introduced in the previous movie. Like what were they thinking? I know he's gonna get resurrected in the Justice League movie but why would they do this?? Overall, i think it was a well made superhero movie, even if it does have some problems, and it doesn't deserve so much hate by critics. I think, in my opinion, the movie was made for the fans, not the critics. I enjoyed this movie and i can't wait to watch it again! Expand

It's not perfect, obviously, and it's far away from TDK and Watchmen, and although it has it's flaws it's still great. It fulfilled my expectations of what should a DC movie be like. Anyways, I would be lying if this was the movie I expected. I was hoping for it to be a 10 but it's a very good 8.

Back to the unjustified criticism. This movie was not made for the critics, obviously and it wasn't made for all the audience, but seriously, do I have to read such things like that the movie isn't fun? It's DC, it's not supposed to be fun. I wasn't expecting jokes between their punches like in The Avengers or other MCU films. On the other side, those who say that there are some un comprehensible things I just got one thing to say to you: Please, wait for the R version. Zack Snyder is famous for his very violent films, and a R version with 30 minutes of additional feature could give you the movie you wanted.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a fairly good but flawed introduction to DC Extended Universe. The acting is great (especially Ben Affleck as Batman), the action sequences are impressive, and the musical score is perfect. However, there is too much destruction and Doomsday is just awful. The story has good moments but overall, it does not make a lot of sense. Although the film creates a good setting for the upcoming Justice League movie, it introduces the Justice League characters in an uninteresting way. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DISCLAIMER: My review is on the Ultimate Edition of BvS, not the theatrical version.

BvS is one of the most controversial underrated superhero movies out there. The worst injustice done to BvS is the fact that so many people decided not to go see it just because of negative reviews online. A message to said people: Hike up your skirt and go see it, and don't just listen to what other people say. You have to go and see it yourself, then form your own opinion on it. That's how it works. Don't just go by what some critics say, because they are neither right nor wrong. So anyway, about the actual movie. Before I do an actual analysis, let me just summarize by saying I would give the theatrical cut of BvS a 6/10, and I would give the Ultimate Edition of it a solid 8/10, hence my rating for this review. Let's do a pros/cons analysis for this movie, just because I feel like it:

PROS
- Visually speaking, BvS is the best damn superhero movie in existence. Kicks Marvel's ass. End of discussion. What else is to expect from Zack Snyder?
- Ben Affleck is hands down the most amazing live-action Batman we have ever gotten, and probably ever will get. Everything about him is spot-on and amazing: The Batsuit, the Armored Batsuit, Alfred (a class all on his own), The Batmobile, Batwing, and most of all his brooding character.
- The portrayal of Superman in this universe may not be as legendary as Batfleck's, but is still easily the best portrayal of Superman ever.
- Wonder Woman. 'Nuff said.
- Justice League cameos get me really excited, especially as a huge DC comics fan.
CONS
- While this film does have a wealth of awesome epic fight scenes, you don't really get to see much of Batman and Superman actually fighting, except for the one 8-minute fight scene between them. That scene is still epic, though.
- Storytelling and plot may not be completely bland, cliche and over-simplistic like many Marvel movies, however it just feels a little too overambitious with the storytelling and has too much of an overstuffed plot.
- Doesn't have much character development involved.

Overall, BvS does have its flaws, but is still a pretty solid movie. There is one more thing I want to address: The "Martha thing". See, everyone hated this movie because they thought Batman only spared Superman because their moms had the same name. I can assure you, that's NOT the case. Batman spared Clarke because he thought that Superman was an evil alien out to destroy Earth, but now that Superman is saying such a relatable human name, Batman starts to realize that maybe he's not what Bruce thought he was. Bruce wasn't able to save his mother that night as a kid, now he is getting the chance to save someone else's mother who coincidentally has the same name. So that's cleared up. One more thing: If you saw the theatrical version and didn't like it, I implore you to watch the Ultimate Edition. The story is cleaner, neater, and flows a lot smoother. Great movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seriously underrated movie. Zack Snyder delivers a film that is both ambitious and emotional. Yes, although it's 2 and half hours long it still feels rushed, this just had too many boxes to check, it had to be a sequel for Man of Steel, introduce a new Batman and the first ever Wonder Woman on film, all that while foreshadowing the Justice League flick.

All that aside, the construction of the conflict in the title is really well done, Batman's reasons are pretty reasonable, but that's not all, he feels emasculated, old, weak, he's trying to prove himself too, when fighting the world's strongest creature.
The reaction of the world to Superman is also great, in such divisive times even Superman is divisive. He can't be that beacon of peace and justice he was, because this is not the world for that beacon, not yet.

Finally, the death of Superman. That was a really bold move and beautifully executed, that was the only way Superman could become the symbol of hope he aimed to be, while alive he would always be the alien, the overpowered god. Dead he can be a symbol.
So yes, the movie has flaws, some of them because the studio chopped this film to death, some of them because Snyder wanted to make three films in one, but the overall result is a great movie with interesting personal and ideological conflicts. While Henry Cavil is not a really good actor he manages to bring his naive and confuse Superman to life and Ben Affleck does a great job with this enraged Batman. Supporting cast, though, has great moments, specially from Jesse Eisenberg's mad Luthor and Jeremy Irons' Alfred.

A movie to be praised for shattering too many expectations in a genre that got too predictable after the MCU.

(THE FOLLOWING REVIEW IS FOR THE ULTIMATE EDITION, WHICH IS FAR SUPERIOR TO THE THEATRICAL CUT AND EXPANDS ON CERTAIN PLOT POINTS MORE FULLY.)

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition is most certainly not the bloated, stupid mess that it is often reviled as being. It's a dark, visually stunning, surprisingly smart epic that certainly isn't built for mainstream audiences.

Zack Snyder is a very under-appreciated director. Say what you will about his choice of bleak colors and themes, the man has talent. Batman v. Superman is a gorgeous-looking film. Every shot looks like there was a plethora of thought and care put into it to ensure that its purpose was served. Everything captured on screen has a deepness of color and texture that is seldom acknowledged by today's moviegoers. The visual effects--with the exception of a couple of brief moments--are seamless and blend naturally with everything caught naturally on camera. My mouth gaped with awe at every frame and I never wanted to take my eyes off of the screen.

Hans Zimmer's score here is absolutely brilliant. It flows so naturally, adding tension to tense scenes and adding heart to moving scenes. I can't say enough good things about it.

As for the far more important matters of story, writing, and character development, none of these fall flat either. There certainly are a lot of characters in Batman v. Superman, and that can be a glaring weakness for a film as development gets scattered and lost. But this movie knows which characters to focus on and which ones not to. The script is leaps and bounds more intelligent than it's given credit for. Sure, there are some cheesy lines that feel forced, but for the most part the dialogue doesn't deviate from plot development and nearly every line serves to reveal deep emotion buried in each character. This is not a lighthearted superhero movie. It's a gloomy tragedy and everyone involved in the story, both hero and villain, is battling internal demons as they're plagued by feelings of inadequacy and jealousy despite the wealth and power they possess.

This isn't a happy-go-lucky, let's go kill the bad guy Marvel film. DC has given us something so much deeper than that here. People often complain about the fact that Lex Luthor's plan here doesn't make any sense. (Oh, and Marvel villains' plans do?) Granted, it can seem convoluted as the story progresses and they could have done a better job at clearing up his intentions and logic. But once everything is understood, it really says something about Lex's personality and he becomes much more relatable as a character. Without spoiling anything, in the end, Lex is just as damaged inside as the heroes are. They're really not that different.

Batman v. Superman isn't a film without flaws. It's a bit too long and a little too ambiguous. There really aren't any standout performances, but there isn't a single bad performance, either. Everyone plays their roles very well and emotions run stunningly deep. It's the rare superhero movie that works on an intellectual level, raising thought-provoking moral questions and providing somber character arcs that stick with you after the credits roll.

DC started a new series in the first film(Man Of Steel) about the Superman , which was the second film while Batman V Superman, although it was actually a bit of a batman-weighted film, at least giving it an impression.
I like the movie, I like the batman, maybe I like this movie so I like it.

but frankly the scenes script all came to me beautiful,I didn't like the last battle scene thats it

I also liked the fact that the death of the superman added an emotional atmosphere to the film.

I was hoping to see Superman and Batman fight each other for 2 hours. I didn't need them to have a reason to fight. I just wanted them to fight over the most trivial reason. After all, I am watching the film for that very reason. Then why aren't they doing it? And on top of it the quality of the movie was also terrible. The audio was too low to be understood without subtitles, the video was too dark, there was too much talking, no Snyder-ish thing was happening most of the time, even their fight didn’t seem like Zack Snyder’s work (the warehouse fight looked more like it). And the Doomsday fight looked forced. And in the movie titled Batman v Superman the fight between the two legends lasts for barely 10 minutes after which they just say Martha and the fight ends.

People often have a problem with this movie because Batman was killing everyone and Superman looked very gloomy. But personally I didn't mind that, since I hadn't watched any Batman movies before (this was my 2nd DC movie after Man of Steel) so I didn't know Batman has a no kill rule, and I didn't like the happy underwear-on-pants Superman (it's the very reason why I wanted Batman to beat up Superman in this movie). Henry Cavill's Superman is the reason why I started liking Superman in the first place. I also do not have any problem with Lex Luthor since I liked the way he spoke; he sounded a bit like Shah Rukh Khan. And also because I hadn't seen Lex Luthor before, so I just saw him as an original character.

But afterwards I watched the Ultimate Edition with subtitles, and this time I was paying more attention to the other characters instead of waiting for the two heroes to beat out each other the way I thought they would do. I think this is something common in all the Zack Snyder movies - you can only appreciate them if you already know the story. Because then you pay more attention to the visual appeal and how cool everyone and everything is looking. Their dialogues now made more sense, since I could read the subtitles instead of struggling with the volume. I was patiently looking at each and every scene. All the pieces that didn't connect in the theatrical version, most of them did in the Ultimate Edition.

In my opinion the theatrical version should have never existed. I mean this movie is based on two of the world's most powerful superheroes. Why wouldn't people want to see it no matter how long it runs for? And since it made more sense, more people would have seen it, because of which it would have earned more.

I disagree withTruthfully the movie is judged too much for its flaws, and not enough for the truly brilliant moments. I'm rating this based on the Ultimate Edition and the pacing within that version, because it truly to improve the pacing. I disagree with the majority of people complaining about the dark tone because it is very much needed. DC is not Marvel, nor should they strive to be. This movie had a particular tone, and it scratched an itch that very few Marvel movies ever could (exception being Infinity War, which was much more daring, somber, and dramatic than all others including Endgame). These movies are needed, which is why I'm so excited about the Snyder cut. We can follow up on this story. The movie has so many quotes and cool moments, but the game changer is the wonderful soundtrack craftd by Junkie XL and Hans Zimmer. As a musician, music makes or breaks the movie for me. Batman's theme in this one is haunting, and the theme of the movie, while a bit dramatic, is epic enough to serve the film in a satisfying way. I'm rambling. Basically I love this movie. The music and the visuals and the storyas well. Expand

I always found the original enjoyable but the extended cut is definitely the definitive way to experience this movie. It adds much needed context and cohesion to make the movie much more fluid and enjoyable as a whole. My only real gripe is I wish there was more of a conflict between Batman and Superman since it is the name of the film. I also found Lois lane borderline unbearable taking up way too much screen time with not enough justification and her being a 1 dimensional damsel in distress doesn’t help that. Otherwise a very enjoyable movie with great action and story Expand

A versão de cinema tem seus cortes bruscos, ainda sim é uma experiência única do gênero de super-heróis.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have to admit, I was a little disappointed and a bit wary after reading some of the critic's reviews; however, after seeing the film myself, I honestly don't think it's that bad. Sure, there are some problems with pacing and humour (though there are a couple of laughs to be had after the two superheroes join forces) as well as a seemingly random post-apocalyptic dream sequence/vision, and yes, the final battle is fairly generic, but overall, I felt the film delivered on at least a basic level in bringing to screen a Batman v Superman tale, one that develops the character and plot elements from Man of Steel, while setting the stage for the even bigger Justice League films. Good Continuation of the DCCU, Clunky-ish Execution. Overall, I liked Batman v Superman. I get what the critics are saying... just think they were way too harsh with this one, and then kept going, and going
