The action, dialogue, direction, and cinematography perfectly wrap into one cohesive film. This is my current favorite Batman. You can just tell after all the years of Gotham going to hell with no end in sight he has lost his morals. Bruce Wayne is brutal like never before. I can't make this review and not speak about Henry Cavil's Superman. Superman in this film is simply put, "A Graphic Novel translated to film". The scenes involving Superman are just so iconic and immersive in this universe Warner Brothers have crafted. The only negative I have about the film is the inclusion of some of the Justice League scenes. They weren't particularly "bad", they just felt a tad out of place.

Overall this film is amazing. Easily beats out recent comic book films like Ultron or Ant Man. I'd highly recommend watching this, and I am certainly picking up the Ultimate Edition when it releases.

Firstly, Ben Affleck is definitely the best Batman ever. Already we know Henry Cavill so compitable with Superman role but, nobody wait Ben Affleck's extraordiary role.

In my opinion, the film has two excuses. Firstly, it is really too long, approximately 150 minutes, if only it has 90 or 100 minutes and we can so satisfied. Secondly, that "Martha" thing. On relevant scene, Batman has advantage and he is so nervous, but when he heart "Martha will die" words he give up. This is weird. Yes, Martha is his mom, but this is not enough reason for giving up.

In addition, soundtracks of film are amazing. Especially, when our three heroes (Batman-Superman-Wonder Woman) presented together musics are extraordinary. Speaking of Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot is as succesfull as Ben Affleck. She looks like completely her comic-book version.

Finally, I really suggest this film and if you do not have any prejudice, you will like this film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I loved this movie so much I saw it twice this weekend. Unlike in MOS, I cared about Superman this go 'round, and I got to see him do super things. Affleck is an amazing Batman; we finally got a brute in the suit. In the climactic battle, things get a little to CGI-heavy for my personal taste, but the emotional payoff is worth it. The bottom line is that this is a comic book come to life. Yes, The Dark Knight was great for what it was. This is different. And it is a helluva lot of fun. Expand

DC/Warner is unapologetically not being Marvel, and that's okay. We've just seen so many Marvel movies that the contrast of BvS can be jarring, as they have chosen to dwell on the larger world view of a God being a reality for people and what that means to all sorts of people.

The movie is not without flaws. It is long in the middle, with hard cuts that disrupt the pacing. Lex is very manic, and I personally like my Lex Luthor to be older and more calculating. Most importantly, the tiny plot points that hinted at where this story is going will be completely missed by non-comic readers... which will definitely affect your opinion of the overall film (i.e. Most Critics).

This movie was VERY ambitious, and probably tried to do too much too soon, but it is not horrible. The fact that BvS is 30% worse than the Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Rotten Tomatoes makes me believe that something actually IS up. I would watch BvS 100 more times before watching AS2 once more.

At the end of the day, I am very excited for the universe they are creating, and I'm happy I get to see it.

The action sequences are big and loud and pack a serious punch. It did feel like DC and Warner Bros. were trying to play catch-up with Marvel and included way too many things in this movie. This did cause the plot to be confusing or a bit weak at times. However, they always cleared up my questions and I came out with a clear sense of where this thing is going in the future.

I hated the choice of Affleck as Batman, but after seeing the movie I am sold. Gal Gadot was also great as Wonder Woman. I didn't so much care for Amy Adams as Lois Lane or Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It felt like they kept throwing Lois into these crazy situations just so Adams could get her screen time. And Eisenberg did a good job of playing crazy, but Luthor is usually more subtle than this. Eisenberg took it way over the top.

POSITIVES:
1) Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
2) Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman
3) Fun, big action sequences
4) Lots of comic references for DC fans

NEGATIVES
1) Amy Adams as Lois Lane
2) Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor
3) Some poor CGI (especially during Doomsday's initial introduction)
4) Plot can be a bit confusing/hard to follow.

All in all, I enjoyed this film. I'm also a huge Batman fan so I'm probably a bit biased. But if you enjoy these characters, ignore the critics and see the movie. Is it on par with what Nolan and Christian Bale were doing? No. But I think it's a solid sophomore effort for DC's new cinematic universe and am looking forward to what comes next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My husband and I went to see Batman v Superman and we thoroughly liked and enjoyed it. I think Ben Affleck more than redeemed himself as Batman and thought he made Batman. Don't bother with the critic reviews...what do they know. It is the fans that matter and we are the ones that make the difference. I was looking forward to this movie and I was not let down. It was a good movie and I look forward to the future in the franchise. The introduction of Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman was a great addition..especially when they were fighting Doomsday. I was kind of sad about Superman, but I have read the book, the comics and watched the animated series, so I know he will be back. And it doesn't hurt that Henry Cavill is listed in the cast for the future Justice League movie. I saw at the end the dirt move too...All in all, it was one of the movies that I am glad that I went to see and am looking forward to the future movies. Expand

I will join others in confusion as to why critics were SO harsh towards this film.

Was it flawed? Sure, and it fell short of a perfect comic film. However, to deny that this is a well-crafted film, even if you don't like its content, is folly.

The performances of Gadot and Batfleck were absolutely breathtaking. Jeremy Irons's Alfred was both wise and snarky, which led to some perfect banter. In fact, Laurence Fishburne's conversations with both Clark and Lois brought a sense of importance to the position of the Daily Planet in American society, and humor to how bold and often reckless Clark and Lois are in their professional lives.

The sheer amount of comic references is staggering. To the point that it might overwhelm not only laymen, but casual fans [I've left out specifics, as they would be spoilers]. This might require that Dawn of Justice deserves more than one viewing, with which I agree. I feel this also led to the misconception that the narrative was disjointed, in that so many new elements were introduced as a comic book would.

One of the most direct criticisms would be some editing issues, but none that take away from the film significantly. Snyder's story already runs well over 2 hours, so certain unimportant scenes that last more than 2 minutes, and/or are told in slow motion, should have been cut. Those minutes would have been better served either shortening the end result, devoting them to important developments, or just saving them for the director's cut DVD.

Dawn of Justice displays the consequences of Superman's power and decisions, as well as the emotional and mental weight of Batman's decades-long career. Make no mistake, it's a serious, ambitious, and operatic treatment. While there is a fair amount of humor (usually in the form of quips, awkward situations, and clever retorts), many critics found the serious treatment of this subject to be lacking in fun.

Well... it's a fight between two heroes, built upon the aftermath of a disaster. So yes, it is serious. But the DC universe will introduce funny and absurd elements (consider LEGO Batman), but this is not one of them. Go in with a good grasp of the source material, an open mind, and entertain graphic literature as a serious medium. This serious story also indicates Superman's lack of joviality, as his standing among the human race is at risk.

Even if you don't like the content, this film is "just okay" or "meh". Either way, it's well-crafted, and astoundingly ambitious. If not for the lowered expectations via critics, I'd give it 8/10, but I was surprised and spellbound repeatedly. So, I give it a 9/10.

The real let down is Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. He did a poor imitation of H. Leadger's Joker showing not only, that he has no idea who Lex Luthor is but also that he is a really bad actor.
Despite this I had a really good time watching this movie and I believe that both Superman and Batman fans should be satisfied.

-Ben Affleck made for an amazing Frank Miller Batman. He's a grizzled, old, son of a **** This is the Batman that I really like, and one that reminded me a lot of the comic book Batman post-Jason Todd to Knightfall.
-Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was exceptionally well done. The writing of his character was amazing. The took the best Lex Luthor villany from the comic series and brought it to life.
-Doomsday: They did everything they should have done with Doomsday. That's all I'm saying without spoiling the movie.
-Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot? Yes. More of that please!
-The Fight: Done right. Ended the way it should have.
-Sequel? Oh god I hope so! They alluded to some stuff from the DCU that would make for an awesome story-telling. This was set up right.

This is a DARK movie. The comparisons have been against the Marvel movies, and one of the things that makes the MCU movies so lovable is the comic relief. There is none of that here and that's how it should be. Remember comic relief in a Batman flick? Watch Batman Forever or Batman and Robin. Then go back to your corner and pout some more if you think laughs work in a DC comic/movie.

DC comics have always been darker than the Marvel comics. This is what WB needs to make more of.

I felt all of the actors did a great job with what they were given. The biggest problem for me was that it felt a little overstuffed. They tried to fit too many elements in to set up the DC extended film universe, at the expense of the core story of this film. Even at 2.5 hours, there wasn't enough time to fit in everything they attempted to, and things felt rushed and choppy at times. I am interested to see the 3 hour Ultimate edition to see if the added scenes will offset this problem.

Another major issue I had was with the design of Doomsday. How could they have gotten the designs of all 3 heroes costumes so right, and Doomsday so wrong. Being a huge fan of the comics, I know how fierce and menacing he SHOULD look. In the movie he looked like a giant hairless gorilla with soft rounded bony protrusions, when he should have been covered in razor sharp bone formations creating natural armour and weapons. I noticed that Weta Digital is listed in the credits as one of the VFX companies. I think they took one of the Orcs from the hobbit, made him bigger, and stuck a few bony bits and pieces in him and called it a day.

Overall, I did enjoy the film, and enjoyed it even more after a second viewing. I definitely want to revisit this universe, with these characters.

This movie was not hard to follow, it was not disjointed. The plot was easy to follow, but surprisingly emotional, much more than really any avengers movie (which I love, don't me wrong). There were probably a few small plot holes, but honestly this was a well told and gripping movie for a superhero movie (remember, super hero movie, not a based on a true story drama)
The only reason why I would not give it a perfect 10, is because it is slightly rushed, because it is fitting a lot of good stuff in. It also isn't the most mind blowing plot, but that is kind of hard to do in super hero movies. What it does though is make a superhuman subject relatable and human. So yes it is darker, but that isn't a bad thing.
It is absolutely worth watching and if you are a DC or any kind of superhero fan, this movie has to excite you for the future of DC and the Justice League!

There does not seem to be much love from the critics and some of the more hardcore comic book fans.

My wife and I really enjoyed it. Compared to the comedic, popcorn-movie vibes that accompany the majority of the Marvel movies (which I also enjoy), this film plays out more like a drama - especially in the first two acts of the film.
Those who complain about Henry Cavill's "dark" Superman seem to only know the silver age version of the character and Christopher Reeve Brandon Routh's cheery, boyscout version of the hero. Superman in modern media has always been a tortured soul in the sense that he is the last of his people and not fully accepted by Earth's people - this film continues with those themes, of his wanting to help but being chastised by some of the media and politicians wanting to regulate his activities - yet there are others who see him as a god and want to worship him, while he only wants to belong and find his purpose on this world.

Ben Affleck's Batman is reminiscent of the "Arkham" video game version of the character, as well as being influenced by Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns in terms of costume design and attitude. This is the most comic booky version of the character we've seen in a live action film, and my personal favourite Batman yet. The warehouse fight scenes in particular are amazing in showcasing the skills and gadgets this Batman has at his disposal to take down street level thugs. Some might not like this Batman is a "killer" but save for one, nobody is seen to be outright murdered by Batman.

On the negative, some of the story elements don't really make much sense - for example how Superman was framed an incident in Africa, and some of Bruce's visions and dreams - but this is a minor gripe and doesn't detract from the experience too much. All in all, I would rate it a solid 7 or 8 out of 10.

Awesome movie.

Ben Affleck is spectacular as Batman.
Henry Cavill is excellent as Superman.
Gal Gadot is not in the movie enough to claim greatness, but she certainly isn't a problem. What she does is very good and makes me very happy that the Wonder Woman movie is coming soon.
Jesse Eisenberg portrays a very different Lex Luthor than I have seen before or was expecting, but he delivers a very good performance. I'm not a big fan of Jesse Eisenberg, but I will give him credit where it is due.
I believe that Batman v Superman was a phenomenal movie, and was very satisfying movie on all counts. It's not quite as genius as Man of Steel, but an exceptional follow up for the DC universe.
I'm eagerly anticipating Suicide Squad and the Justice League movies. Just can't stand the wait!

Does the movie have flaws? Sure! The same flaws that you can find in every other superhero film. IMHO, it's major flaw was trying to pack too much material in a single film. Warner should have respected and appropriated pace instead of trying to rush the delivery of Justice League film just to compete with Avengers.

A great superhero movie. Well worth seeing. Not sure why all the hate from "critics". Sure it has it's flaws like all movies do, but it's much better than some of these publications would have you think.

I cant wait for more.

This movie is a comic book on screen. It is fun too, do not let the reviews out there fool you, there were moments I was cheering and having a blast. I like that the plotting of Lex throughout the film brings all of the heroes together in the end, as well as sets up the need for the Justice League to form. I thought that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor was a refreshing take on a well known character. He brought a manic malevolence to the performance that set him apart from other Luthors we have seen. I also enjoyed the final climax to the movie as the three heroes try to find a way to defeat Doomsday and not destroy another city. Expand

It's plot is a bit stretched, true, Luthor and Doomsday are not done that well, true. And the battle in the title takes only 15 mins of the movie. But even considering all that, it is a great experience.
A DC movie for DC fans, this is not for the casual movie-goer or for the typical Marvel fan that only likes the "Good guys are fine; Good guys are not fine; Good guys fight Bad Guys; Good guys win." structure that these kinds of movies usually have. This is a dark movie, not a comedy. It's plot is not perfect, but superhero movies do not usually have a perfect plot, people just tend to forgive them because of the light heart and the jokes.
First of all, this was the best Barman ever shown in the big screen. Affleck killed it, his cynical, rough and psychotic Batman truly represents the nature of the character. To people saying he is too hateful, to insane, that he should be a symbol of hope, i say: nope. A man that dresses as a bat and goes hit people every night has to be insane, he has to be damaged, he has to be a criminal. People jut don't like to think of heroes that way. He is not a symbol of hope for the people. He is a symbol o fear to the criminals, and of safety for the everyday man.
Of Superman, i say this: although not that interesting and even though this is more a Bat movie than a Sups one, Snyder really managed to capture what would happen if an overpowered alien simply arrived and started doing stuff without asking permission. Although not the best Superman around, it was decent at worst and managed to portray the character well, although he could be better. Also, loved the religious symbolism. People always tend to fixate their hopes on powerful figures.
Wonder Woman was incredible. Although her part on the movie was short, she was great in every single scene, exceeding Superman on awesomeness. Looking forward to the solo movie.
Luthor.... well, he's kind'of a hit or miss. It's obviously a different portrayal of the red haired son of the original Luthor, and it passes, but it could be better. It doesn't damage the film, but having Mark Zuckerberg as the big baddie just isn't very intimidating for me. Still had some great scenes and lines.
Doomsday..... not my cup of tea, very bad design, but oh well, the fight was epic, it's conclusion impressive, they even followed the comics somewhat in its resolution. They took a risk, and in the end it just kind' of worked.
Visually it's stunning.
Music was amazing.
The Justice League set up was lazy, but acceptable i guess. Loved the dream sequences.
Loved seeing Batman killing people, been wanting him to do that for ages (come on, so he throws people off rooftops but "he never kills". Right.)
Lots of references and influences of great comics, including Flashpoint, Injustice and especially The Dark Knight Returns.
Overall, a great movie, been expecting something like this for a long time. Not a masterpiece, not really well put together. Not that smart, not that rational. Had it been someone other than Batman and Superman it wouldn't have worked.
But guess what. It was them, and it did work.
Can't wait for more, just hope the hate doesn't kill DC while they're just beginning.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my thoughts on the theatrical version of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice-
Batman v. Superman is Zach Snyder's follow-up to his 2013 stand alone Superman reboot "Man of Steel", which similar to that film split audiences and critics down the middle. I believe that Batman v. Superman has the same strengths and weaknesses that came with "Man of Steel", meaning the things that really work, work, and the things that fail, fail hard. The things that work include Batfleck, Wonder Woman, The Action, The Visuals, and Snyder knows how to shoot a beautiful looking slow-mo scene.
Sadly however in this cut of the film the bad outweighs the good including such fails as, Lex Luthor and an awful performance by Jesse Eisenberg, Almost no Superman, The Death of Superman, Doomsday the Ninja Turtle Cave-Troll, A 7-Minute Title Fight, and of course say it with me now...."MARTHA"

For those of us who remember the original Frank Miller rendition of the Dark Knight, this is the closest anyone's got to encapsulating its spirit. The film had heft and I didn't take my eyes off that screen from the opening titles to the closing credits. Affleck was a superb Batman, Cavill did a great job with Superman, Godot was a brilliant Wonder Woman - if I have any criticism it's that Eisenberg could dialled back the scenery chewing a notch or two. So if you're a fan of superhero movies and graphic novels and you've been put off by the critics reviews of this film, go and see it and make your own mind up - I'm bloody glad that I did. Expand

It has a mixture of cultures within different scenes. Sometimes they can pop a joke or two while trying to be intense at the same time. The mixture creates an enjoyable atmosphere. In other cases they try to keep the action pact scenes while staying with the dramatic atmosphere.

Going into the movie you should know some lore that comes with both the Superman series and the Batman series but little information is needed to keep up because the lore is explained fairly well. The scene where batman views other Justice League future members is explained at the end of the movie with the conversation Batman has with Wonder Woman. Although the further details will hopefully be explained in future movies the broad area of the Justice League is mentioned.

After every scene throughout the movie left me on the edge of my seat and hoping the movie didn’t end there. Even after the dramatic ending I wanted to delve into the mind of the screen writers and the director to see what would happen next. The action scenes were well developed and used the correct amount of realistic-looking special effects. Some movies go over the top on the Special effects and make the action scenes seem corny and Batman vs. Superman didn’t seem to have that affect.

Overall Batman vs. Superman is a good start-up movie and seems to hold a promising future toward the upcoming Justice League series. The scene build is intense with a good mixture of genres. It seems to have more of an open genre name and shouldn’t be held to just the fantasy and science fiction genre. The lore within the movie is explained well and hopefully will be elaborated on further in the story line. This movie is given 9/10 stars on my scale.

The ideologies of unchecked power and how to deal with it has been a hot topic in comic books throughout the years. Despite a few plot holes and clear pacing problems throughout the movie it's nonetheless an enjoyable experience. The film succeeds in showing the different perspective's from different characters pertaining to the events at the end of MoS and superman himself. Ben Affleck is definitely the light that shines in this dark and action packed story; giving comic book fans the definitive version of the dark knight we truly deserved. The audience gets to see both sides of the man behind the bat. Bruce Wayne, a man still holding onto the tragedy that struck him as a child. And Batman the dark knight who will stop at NOTHING to put an end to the immediate and imminent threat who he sees as Superman. Believe it or not Jesse Eisenberg's Alexander luthor Jr. is very much similar to that of Bruce Wayne; in which they both possess two sides to their character. To the public Lex is a young billionaire philanthropist who wants to help humanity in it's struggle to build towards a better tomorrow. But behind the closed doors of 'LexCorp'. he's an evil and cunning genius who takes advantage of the worlds naivety for his own insane agenda; which includes trying to extinguishing the one threat to his plans, Superman. Lex is definitely the mastermind behind the show carefully pulling the strings of everyone else and our two beloved heroes; even pitting them against one another to deliver "The Worlds greatest gladiator match in the history of the world". There may not be much to say about her but Gal Gadot's performance as wonder woman proved to show people why she was the break-out star and unsung hero in this film. She kicks-ass as the beautiful Amazonian princess of Thyemiscira; but also possesses a mysterious past that will for sure intrigue the audience wanting to know more. In this film Henry's Superman plays a sort of public enemy #1 in which anyone who isn't Lois or Martha Kent considers him either a threat to be taken care of or a threat to be controlled. Superman, despite being the clear symbol of hope he is, is still struggling with the events of MoS and is very much being crucified by the media for it. Like most films concerning any object or person with any enormous amount of power, the government and the White House are involved in the affair. Senator Finch and every other 'suit' in Washington feel that Superman is a matter to be dealt with and should hold some responsibility for the destruction caused by Gen. Zod and the other Kryptonians. Superman, despite being the clear symbol of hope he is, is still struggling with the events of MoS and is very much being crucified by the media for it. The ideals of Batman, Lex and Sen. Finch serve as the three legs for which the entirety of what is Batman v Superman stands on and it's wonderful. This film for better or worst will leave the audience thinking and wanting more as it answers the question of unchecked power but questions as who should be the one to "check" that power. It also leaves the question of whats next for the trinity and other super-powered in the DCEU as the clear indications throughout the movie show "We are not alone" in this universe. In the end Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an action-packed,emotionally-memorable and visually-stunning film experience for comic book fans and audience a like. Weather it's lines like "you're not brave, men are brave" or to batman unleashing absolute hell on group of thugs in an abandoned warehouse in true dark knight fashion. Dawn of justice is the absolute epitome of a real super-hero film that is not afraid to take chances or risk to further it's story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The problem with Dawn of Justice for me doesn’t lie in the plot or characters as a whole but rather the elements or angles in the film. Plot-wise the film is not bad, okay even but in the end it failed to excel because the film covers too many angles. Batman v Superman is a 3-in-1 film. It was a Man of Steel sequel, Batman introductory film and Justice League prequel. On surface glance this may not sound complicated or even become an issue but if you enter into the details it’s different. Throughout the entire film how much interaction did you see between Superman and Batman? How memorable was it? I only remember 3 scenes, the scene where Clark meets Bruce, the scene where Batman crashes into Superman in the bat-mobile and the grand fight of the film. For being called Batman v Superman, there’s a severe lack of interaction between the 2 “main characters”. And this is because as I said earlier, it’s a 3-in-1 film. In fact, majority of the events of the film went to 2 things: Batman’s backstory, the reason he fights and the Superman criticism issue, how the world views Superman. And in actuality, this movie does focus more on the Superman issue on whether or not Superman is really needed or not with Lex Luthor Jr. plotting to kill him by manipulating Batman who also wants to kill Superman. This in return, also makes even Batman somewhat secondary to the film. Yes I understand that the DCEU centers around the Man of Steel, Last Son of Krypton but you’re doing a story that expands into a universe that covers beyond 1 character. Of course it’s not to say that Bruce Wayne wasn’t developed properly in this film but the final result is despite having the same MC status, the bigger focus was given to Superman than Batman. Almost every major point in the film was pointed to Superman. Lex wants to kill him, Bruce wants to kill him. Even Doomsday was created to kill him. Expand

Enjoyable for what it was. The ultimate edition makes it better as well. Having watched this twice now, I find that Affleck did do a good job as Bruce Wayne/Batman. I think the haters will hate anything that isn't pure source but whatever.

DC & Marvel are like two different universe which have life of its own. Both have their serious and funny sides. I accept that DC is bit on the dark side rather than being on funny one.

Coming to movie, except that Martha scene, in a whole it was awesome.

My first thought after watching that scene was like "Cool, i have been reading, watching superman or batman comics/animation since i was 9 years old and still i didn't notice that. That is amazing".

But the very next thought was "hey! they were fighting. Dammit. It was thrilling. If you wanted to have a pact between them, Snyder YOU should have done something else. You could have done better ".

Ben Affleck as batman was awesome. No ill will to Bale. Affleck personality made him the right choice for the Frank Miller's batman.

Wonder woman !! OH MY GOD !! In such a short span she pulled something amazing.

* The plot could use some strength and a well pace, not mixing the things up for normal audience.

1.) Like the parademon thing was confusing to most people. what are they.
2.) Wonder woman Lasso was also confusing to people." Is it a rope? Why is she restraining doomsday by a rope? Does it contains magic? Is wonder woman a witch? No she is not . but a rope?????

* Jesse could have been a better Lex. The Lex we saw was kind of psycho but really he is gangsta type with some well calculated moves. But in the movie ending he was coming to his usual self. The way we are used to see Lex. But hey different people different view.

* Looks like i am criticizing too much and still giving it a 9, i wanted to give 8 but then it hit me , we were only focused for BvS but the movie which we saw was "Dawn of Justice". BvS was just a catalyst for it

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Probably my favorite superhero movie of all time. First, characters. Batfleck was superb. He was everything a good Batman should be. We saw him using great detective skills, we saw his most badass fighting sequences yet, he was tough, he was dark, he was perfect. Superman was also fantastic. His inner turmoil from Man of Steel was carried over a bit, but I think this is very important for his character. We still see elements of boy scout Superman, we see him choosing to save a little girl from a burning building rather than pursue Batman, we see cute moments with his mother, we see him saving and comforting Lois. And we even get to see a fair amount of Clark Kent and his journalism. His feelings of isolation and conflict though add another layer to his character, which makes him so important. Lex Luthor was very different to the one that we had seen previously, but the next take of Luthor was so refreshing. He was twitchy and playful but also dark and crazy and I found him endearing. His plot was actually fairly clear and very well justified and I found him much more impressive than any other superhero villain since the Dark Knight. As for the relationship between Baman and Superman, I thought it was extremely well executed. Showing the battle from Man of Steel through the eyes of Bruce Wayne, a normal human, was such a perfect opening and watching him witness it whilst comforting a little girl who lost her parents was a flawless way of establishing his hatred for Superman. The Batman in this movie skipped the origin and went straight to the dark, brooding and broken Batman who was slowly morphing into what he was setting out to destroy. His reasons for this were quite well explored to those paying attention, such was when he asks how many people stayed good, or said they've always been criminals. You can clearly see how the years of being the dark knight have weighed on him. But his development continues throughout the story. The "Martha moment" is hated but I think its great. Batman didn't just decide to start liking Superman because their mothers shared a name, it was a moment of realization. Realizing that this alien that he hated wasn't really so different, that he had a human mother than he loved so much that he used his dying words to beg his murderer to save her. That he didn't come here to destroy him, he came here because he loves his mother. It contrasts how Bruce was hopeless and couldn't save his mother, and here, this God like figure was the same. The ultimate edition is essential, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do as it fixes up a lot of awkward scene transitions and explains the plot better. The movie had many great moments, such as the fight scenes with Batman and Superman, Batman when saving Martha, etc. The dream sequences were all really cool as well. I seriously can't express enough how much I adore this movie. On first watch, I felt a little confused as to why Batman and Superman were acting the way they were acting and what Luthors plan was. But watching the ultimate edition really helped and now I can't get enough of this movie. Expand

I loved this batman, I like this superman, and wonder woman was really good. I feel like this a movie of missed opportunities. It could have been amazing, but there are moments where the script doesn't work. It needed more batman doing batman stuff, and more superman doing superman stuff. I'd recommend this to anyone and I feel like critics were overly harsh to this movie. But if you were to watch it, watch the ultimate cut. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a fairly good but flawed introduction to DC Extended Universe. The acting is great (especially Ben Affleck as Batman), the action sequences are impressive, and the musical score is perfect. However, there is too much destruction and Doomsday is just awful. The story has good moments but overall, it does not make a lot of sense. Although the film creates a good setting for the upcoming Justice League movie, it introduces the Justice League characters in an uninteresting way. Expand

I like Batman a lot, I've never cared that much about Superman. I went into these movie with very low expectations (due in part to it's predecessor Man Of Steel, a lifeless waste of time), and I left the cinema very surprised. This movie delivered a very investing version of Batman and I understood the depth of Superman as a character for the first time. I also seem to be the only person who likes Jesse Eisenberg as the villain (I understand he is not the classic Luthor and his plan never made much sense, but something about his performance captivated me on every scene he was in). Both the cinematography and the score were amazing.

I can take into account all the problems people are pointing out: it tried to be a lot of movies at once, there were a lot of plot holes and the last act was pretty bad. Nevertheless, I don't think these compromise the overall enjoyment of the movie.

Lois Lane doesn't work for me, and the movie rushed Superman's big scene, so the stakes did not feel that dire.

That being said, the critics are still off on this one. If you look at the reviews of Thor: The Dark World, you can easily see which studio pays for their reviews--because Thor 2 sucked far worse than this one.

All seven of my positive points come primarily from the story of Batman and the introduction of Wonder Women. I found myself uninterested in just about everything in scenes featuring Superman - outside of the brilliant score from Hans ZimmerAll seven of my positive points come primarily from the story of Batman and the introduction of Wonder Women. I found myself uninterested in just about everything in scenes featuring Superman - outside of the brilliant score from Hans Zimmer playing in the background. However, I still enjoyed large stretches of this movie.

Batman as a villain type character is thrilling and even terrifying if you can get over the fact that he’s a grown man dressed like a Bat. All things considered, I am a huge fan of the character and I think they are on to something special with Ben Affleck’s portrayal. His facial expressions - while in the Bat suit - really draw out a human side of the Batman that I think we have never seen before. He is Bruce Wayne in a costume not the other way around. That was a refreshing take on the character – which past iterations portrayed the human side as simply “Bruce Wayne, eccentric billionaire.” {Tangent} I must say that It saddens me that we will never see Heath Ledger and Ben Affleck square off against one another, but I say give Jared Leto another chance!

As for Wonder Women, her character was simply magnanimous. After numerous fighting scenes throughout the movie, you become numb to the violence and destruction happening just about everywhere. However, her unique set of weapons and most of all her battle cries keep you engaged when you’re just on the edge of loosing focus. I don’t know that I am particularly excited to see her stand alone movie, but I will say that seeing her in the Justice League should be awesome!

Lex or “Alexander” Luther was a bit Heath Ledgerish to me, which I truly think hurt his character tremendously. With that said, he delivered some of the best acting performances down the stretch of this film opposite Holly Hunter or Henry Cavill – most of all the “Death By Fire” line. If he does reprise his role as Lex Luther, Jesse Eisenberg should show a different side of the character – meaning less like The Joker.

All in all, the movie was not great in retrospect, but it was an effective way of introducing audiences to the new DC Universe. I rate it a solid seven, although I completely understand why many people rate it lower.

Poor acting by Jesse Eisenberg doesn’t make it better either, he is simply not fit for his role. But the rest of the cast still acted well enough. I’m still deciding whether it’s elevating the superhero genre or making a complete mockery of it – a caricature if you like. Perhaps both. Henry Cavill does not deliver such a solid performance, but does a decent service. However, Jesse Eisenvberg delivers a caricatured and exaggerated performance, similar to something that Nicolas Cage would do in his worst films (which is even negatively surprising if you consider Eisenberg's good performances in "The End of the Tour" and "The Social Network").. The direction of the fight scenes is effective, but the script makes slips and has its inconsistencies (that go beyond a certain moment of plot twist). The soundtrack, by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL, is awesome. BvS it's not a sensational movie as many expected and still claim today, but in the end it's a cool product to entertain viewers. Expand

zack snyder made his best work with this movie showing the best heroes on the history of the comics in his worst moments in a movie about the fall, the hate and later rise ,redemption and hope sending a beatiful message to the audience that everybody can fall, even our best heroes but the thing that defines heroes is the ability to overcome to the obstacles (this movie helped me to overcome my depression).
Ben affleck did an amazing job in this movie, probably the best in his career, jesse eisenberg was very good as a version of lex luthor very similar to mark suckerberg, and the introduction of gal gadot like wonder woman was a dream come true for every dc comic fan.
Also the movie has a lot of political, religion and philosophical references that makes the movie very rewatchable for finding new things, and think about it and make a reflexion.
i can say a lot of things of this movie, but my english is not as good as i wanted to, the only thing i can say to close this review is: watch the ultimate edition with an open mind and you will find one of the best superheroe movies ever made.

I don't apologize for loving this film. I love every second of it, specially the director's cut ("Special Edition"). I love every decision the screen writer and director made.
If Man of Steel (2013) is the ultimate immigrant story, BvS is a story about fearing the immigrant, about post 9/11 xenophobia, about intolerance and trauma. About how the media can shape our opinions, and how hatred, even when it feels justified, can turn the best of us into monsters.
Best superhero movie ever made, hands down, and my favorite depictions of the DC characters (Batfleck!!!).
It may need several watches to 'get it', but this film is absolutely brilliant, and keeps revealing layer after layer of meaning even years after it's release.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is for that extended version ofcourse. It was not like other sunshine and rainbow superhero movies that applies the same formula again and again, I saw the SUPERMAN the Ultimate being struggle THE BATMAN The Justice making bad judgements but that was made because it hold a character development and the way the movie goes if you pay attention you do understand that this Superman is not at his peak he's just a newbie and Batman has changed during this time he's old and is dealing with lot of issues not the Perfect Duo that we've always been seeing all the time. This is an art, an experiment that was perfectly executed by the artist Zack Snyder and his team, the way Ben Affleck plays the role of Bruce Wayne is just pure perfection fights crime at night and a cocky billionaire in the public, and the struggle that Clark was going though no one can portray that better than Henry Cavill he's still trying to fit into this world which has mixed thoughts about him and most of them hates him as they think he causes destruction and doesn't care about human lives he's being treated like an outsider, I can go on with the thongs like how his death changed Bruce's thinking and how the world understood that He was more of a human than they could ever be and a lot of things but this is an Art like I said you'll have to watch it and it's worth the time. Zack Snyder's DC Movies are not like your everyday comic movies it's different and it's logical because it does show the reality. Expand

Snyder's approach is one of solemn reverence, showcasing comicbook characters in a mature and grounded fashion, not attempted before, (or since), on screen. The sheer emotional gravitas with which Snyder envisions the subject matter, and the complexity in his use of art and literary analysis, may not be palatable for the general audience, but pays homage to the some of the most iconic tales in the DC Universe, thus transcending to the status of cinema. It had some issues, mostly plot or directing issues. Which makes sense since they had a second writer come in half way and changed things and then they took out a half-hour worth of the movie for the theaters and it shows in sloppiness and abrupt scenes. Which, in a movie this big and important, is in of itself somewhat unforgivable. I will mention this: The tone of the movie is much like Man of Steel. If you truly hated the darker tone of that movie, you are not going to like BVS because it is as, or is even more so, grim as MOS. Personally, I love the tone of DC's harder take on the superhero genre. But I don't really make that part of my judgement of the movie. You either like it or you don't.
In terms of acting I liked it across the board. Affleck was good (suprise!), Cavill was decent. Gal Gadot/Wonder Woman was AWESOME! I was so worried about her and her parts of the movie made me outright smile. She is exactly the way i hoped they would go with her character. Can't wait for her solo movie next year. Eisenberg as Luthor was up and down. He was truly terrific in some parts and flat or stupid in others. Definitely a product of the re-writes, i would bet money on it. Jeremy Irons was very fun as Alfred. A more hands on, smart ass version of Alfred. The "Dawn of Justice" parts of the movie are also a mixed bag, but mostly because they are part of the weird placement and pace issues of the middle/later parts of the movie. The actual "cameos" are interesting, I would have liked them more...organized or better presented. You'll see.
I won't go into spoilers, and there are plenty. The first hour of this movie is riveting (10/10). The middle is okay, plot and pace get wonky (7/10), and then the ending is a bizarre mix of mind-blowing goodness or crappy in rapid fire. The fights are jaw dropping (and honestly worth the price of admission), but then the plot and connecting the dots towards the end go off the rails and some are just unispired (4/10). While it should be fairly clear if you are a comics fan, but the average viewer probably missed a lot. So I would give it a 7/10 overall.

Those who do not positive about this film is that they do not value the art of cinema and the art of comics. It is a work so rich and complex that their biggest problem may be its short duration. It is a work so rich and complex that their biggest problem may be its short duration. That viewer who does not know the DC Universe , may get the impression that he is watching an extensive trailer of something much bigger. But without any doubt, this movie just starts a revolution in the way of narrating films of this genre. Batman v Superman is a delight in every aspect. Enjoy this spectacle that eventually everyone will learn to value fairly. Expand

It literally was too much to take it in.. Luckily for me I saw this before the critics barrage of low reviews. Having no influence I was able assess my own conclusions.. Having seen the movie multiple times now I've come to the conclusion that I love this movie more with each viewing..
Let's start with the negatives:
Pacing/Editing - Notice this right away. The movie at times jumps around lot. Some scenes aren't fleshed out , while some do drag.. You can tell right away that many scene were cut to get this movie under 3hrs..

Now for the positives:
Cast is great , I don't care what anyone say I loved this cast , they all did a great job. The interpretations of the characters fit for the movie & where we are at in the DCEU. I think its crazy for many to complain about these characters (specifically Bats & Supes) when the characters arc isn't even complete in this universe.Patience !. I dug Lex , yea he was annoying at times , but that was the point ... He was one of the best Villains we seen in in the last 6 yrs in any Comic Book Movie.. the fact that we finally have a villain that actually acts like a Super Villain, it was a pleasure to see the bad guy actually bring our heroes to their knees.. Gal didn't have much to work with but on screen she became Wonder Women, loved the look the accent , looking forward to her movie..Batfleck was great best onscreen batman & I'm a big fan of Keaton's.. Cavil again played Supes well , can't wait to see him in JL

Story- I loved this story & the world building.. Many people complain, yes it's a lot to take in , But I give them Kudos for such a big ambitious story .. The level of detail , research put into this movie was great..This is a movie you must watch multiple times as you will find yourself noticing something new every time.. It was refreshing not watching your traditional CBM , a movie that actually forces you to pay attention, as there are many subplot to go along w/ the central plot.. It doesn't hold your hand or any bars, you won't be spoon-fed. The 1st half of the movie plays out much like a Thriller / Drama.. Each scene is imperative to the story, each piece of dialogue will tell you exactly what you need to know ( actions, motives, characteristics)

action - Typical Synder , its his strong point ..it's awesome , from the opening to the end, each action scene is straight from the pages of a comic book ..yes the CGI is shotty in some spots , but what CBM isn't ..

It's fine that many didn't like the movie, but i think people should give it another chance. It really is something we never saw before in the CBM universe.. Yes, it jumps around, yes, unless your a big comic book fan some scenes you probably won't get.. But that's what makes it fun (to me at least), It keeps the movie fresh as you will find yourself doing research after you watch BvS..

The promised battle between heroes is long in coming and it seems rushed, Doomsday seems to be in a shoehorn and there are details that are very noticeable. It was like a velvet-wrapped gift box, but the premise of whether Batman and Superman, seen from each other, are heroes or not, remains as debt. You will say. Expand

This is hardly surprising, given Christopher Nolan is involved, given Christopher Nolan is an executive producer. Think along the lines of the tone and atmosphere of the Dark Knight films, with a touch of Man of Steel from the Superman side of things.

There are some pretty impressive special effects used - visually I thought it was quite good. It certainly paints a picture of troubled times as far as western society is concerned. I thought it was quite tense and certainly entertaining.

Performance wise, the main performance that stood out to me was that of Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Lex Luthor. I thought he did well playing the somewhat quirky, awkward teen who certainly has an amount of powers and resource to hand. However, I did also feel that Ben Affleck gave a decent performance as Batman too.

I can't comment too much on how the film works in terms of it being at all based on the original characters, as written in the original comic strips/books, novels etc. but I certainly found it a tense and engrossing watch and so I'd recommend it on that basis. Perhaps one or two plot elements were a little predictable but overall its still a decent enough watch, although it isn't a film I'd specifically recommend to pre-teens, due to the violence/dark themes etc.
