I couldn’t stand being preached to one more minute. It’s so in your face with its third wave feminist messaging, that any genuine attempts to be fun, girly and even entertaining get bogged down. I tried to give the film some leeway with how they treated the Ken’s, because this is a toy line marketed towards young girls. However so much of the humor, commentary and yes it’s messaging would be completely lost to the younger demographic. The demographic that this film is supposed to be for. Barbie literally tells a groups of construction workers that she doesn’t have a vagina and Ken doesn’t have a penis. That’s literally what she says and this is supposed to something for young kids. Also how would they know anything about anatomy? If the dolls are a reflection of the real life child (girl) that is playing with them, then what about the rest of the Barbie’s? Are their young girls still playing with them? Why aren’t they going through the same thing? Maybe they explain it later. As I mentioned I walked out because I couldn’t take its, in your face messaging. Don’t take your kids to see this, watch Legally Blonde instead. Expand

Title: Barbie and the Quest for Individuality - A Propaganda of Worthless Ideology Packaged into Pink Wrap Paper
Barbie and the Quest for Individuality is the latest addition to the long-running Barbie movie franchise. As a childhood fan of Barbie, I was genuinely excited to watch this movie and hoped for a story that would empower young girls to embrace their uniqueness and dreams. However, what I got was a disappointing display of propaganda masquerading as a feel-good animated film.

The movie revolves around Barbie, who sets out on a journey to find her true self and discovers the importance of individuality. On the surface, this might seem like a positive message, but it is heavily marred by the execution and underlying implications. The film pushes an unrealistic and superficial notion of individuality, promoting an ideology that values outward appearance and material possessions above all else.

The storyline is clichéd and fails to engage the audience. Instead of a compelling narrative that encourages girls to pursue their passions, overcome challenges, and think critically, the movie devolves into a predictable sequence of events where Barbie's only concerns are her looks, wardrobe, and accumulating material possessions.

Additionally, the movie lacks any meaningful character development. Barbie remains a shallow, one-dimensional character throughout, and the supporting cast merely serves as cookie-cutter stereotypes. There is a glaring lack of diverse representation, which is a missed opportunity to promote inclusion and equality in the story.

The film's use of pink wrap paper only exacerbates the issue. Instead of challenging traditional gender norms and breaking free from outdated stereotypes, Barbie and the Quest for Individuality reinforces them. The excessive emphasis on appearance and material possessions perpetuates the harmful notion that a woman's worth lies solely in her outward beauty and consumerism.

As a responsible adult and a former fan of Barbie, I cannot in good conscience recommend this movie to young girls or their parents. It lacks the depth and substance needed to inspire and empower the next generation. Instead, it promotes a regressive and hollow ideology, packaged in a glittery pink facade.

In conclusion, Barbie and the Quest for Individuality is a disappointing display of propaganda disguised as entertainment. It fails to live up to its potential as a vehicle for positive messaging and empowerment, instead perpetuating harmful stereotypes and superficial ideals. Parents should be cautious about exposing their children to this film, as it might inadvertently reinforce damaging values rather than inspire greatness.

I think they pulled all those parts for the ads specifically, because the actual substance of the film is anything but enjoyable or captivating.

The other 1-star reviewers made the points already for me, no sense in regurgitating unpleasantness.

I think WB, Mattel, or whoever else was behind the advertising of this film already knew what a dud it would be if the advertising gave an accurate portrayal of the actual storyline.

Seriously, who wants to watch almost two hours of crying and fist-waving at society, all in bright pink?

Because it's interesting to me how the happiest, brightest, comedic soundbites are what made it into the ad campaign.

Almost like such people know what the public actually likes, and being preached to about how unfair and unequal life is, isn't it!!

Left the theater feeling down on myself and society in general. I REALLY don't think the movie making powers-that-be "got the assignment".

With that being said, the humour is kinda cute and has made me smile a couple of time but nothing more than that.

The actors are awesome and are probably the best thing about the movie, Margot Robbie is born for this role and has done a masterful job.

Ah, Barbie, the iconic franchise that brightens our lives with plastic and stereotypes. After all, who doesn't love to see a flawless blonde doll living adventures with no trace of reality? Note? A solid 2/10 for the effort to keep the brand alive.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Felt like I paid to watch a two hour ad. While the movie is often funny and clever, it was overall disappointing.

Hollow overtures to feminism, overt misandry, and forced diversity were used to clean up Mattel's image and please the uncritical mainstream audience. While graphics were appealing, Barbies character itself is poorly developed & the storyline is incoherent… The story could not be resolved without Greta literally preaching her message at the end.

The movie could have been about feminism and equality, instead, however, it promotes matriarchy as solution to patriarchy. “Barbie” is reinforcing the problem. The movie touches on several interesting themes but never explores them which feels like wasted potential.

- The Mother-Daughter relationship. The daughter is disconnected with her mother and acts hostilely at school. You thought the movie will revolve about fixing that problem? No. The daughter has no problem. She's just a teenager.
- Thinking about death: The mother misses playing with her daughter and starts designing sad or “weird” Barbies. How does that relate to Barbie thinking about death specifically?
- The corporate: The corporate people who are all men try to catch Barbie so they can send her back to Barbieland. But when Barbie went to Barbieland they still followed her. It took them too long to get there for no apparent reason. And when they got there it just gets very confusing. Why are they in there?
- Barbie wanting to be human: A theme that starts with Barbie‘s interaction with an old lady and her observing other people. That motive disappears completely until the end, Barbie has no motivation to become human throughout the movie.
- Kens: The Movie tries to make Ken the bad guy even though he was just trying to be noticed and loved (woman good man bad mentality). You’d expect Ken has any meaningful development after the downfall of Kendom but he remains Barbie’s accessory.

After that it devolved into a platform, and even that didn't work as the creators propably intended. Jokes rarely landed after the first 45min, never heard a theater so silent after a punchline of a joke.

Also the message in this film is that Barbie is a villain. That's not the Barbie I grew up with. Barbie would not oppress or "put anyone on their right place", or leave anyone to suffer just because her own goal isn't yet met. And we're meant to cheer at the end for that? I call BS.

That's not feminism, and that IS NOT BARBIE!

Edit afternote:
Apparently criticizing this movie makes one an incel. Or a man for that matter - which btw I'm not.
When they can't refute your criticism with proper arguments or facts, and simply resort to name-calling and outright dismissing your opinions based on your assumed demographic... that's very telling.

Edit afternote II: My user review on RT (verified) was removed, so don't trust RT score.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the movie and I can say this is the most surprising movie of the year. Loved the movie. Greta really did a great job in balancing the emotional scenes as well as the comedic ones. I was surprised that there were some emotional scenes in the movie but hey not only were they there but they were well done. The scene at the bus stop where Barbie looks at the old woman was just beautiful. The jokes in addition were well written and the scenes were not just filled with stupid jokes like how we saw in Thor L&T. Was great to see a movie with jokes and fun considering how all the recent movies were all action and stuff. The cast was perfect. Margot Robbie as barbie was a incredible choice (that 4th wall break about her was well done and smart), Ryan Gosling as Ken was just....perfect. He and Simu Lui killed their role. Micheal Cera as Allan was great. He wasnt used too much, or too less but the perfect amount. The plot was well a bit thin but was well executed with good pacing, however the ending scene between barbie and the founder could be cut by a min or two. In contrast the "Ken War" has to be one of the best comedic musical scenes hollywood has come out with. That was just incredible to watch in the big screen. The set was just beautiful. Well done and executed on all levels, good pacing and great jokes. Good movie however I can see some people not liking it as this may not suit for everyone. 8/10 Expand

I ended up having a really deep and excellent conversation with my wife about it afterwards. She's a feminist and made this really great point. She said, "This film is so keen to talk about women's oppression in the real world that it forgets that it's created a fictional oppressed people in the Barbie world". You can't make an oppressed group and then have them become the villains simply because it suites another part of your story".

Doing so made the film seem very mean spirited and, honestly, quite supremacist. It's treatment of patriarchy is also extremely simplistic which adds to that unpleasant affect. There's no way in hell I'd take my kids to see this. I think it's kinda harmful.

Sure the costumes and set design are fun but that’s about all I liked about the movie, pretty disappointing with how long the wait for it felt. The plot, what plot when you think it’s going somewhere it go’s somewhere completely different, the characters are thin and the character relationship dynamics are non existent, apart from that there’s some identity politics thrown in that takes over the second half of the film, and regardless of whatever way you feel on that subject, the whole thing feels like an ironic take, like it’s going to have a gottach moment (like at the opening) but it never comes and then all of a sudden the films ending with a barely fleshed out story for the main barbie. I can’t say kids would like this movie, if I could say anyone would like it it’s probably for young adults still living sheltered at home, but even then I’m not sure, like others have said “who was this movie even for?” I don’t think Barbie needed to be “deep” and making it that way really accomplished anything constructive either, I would of much preferred a fun pretty feel good comedy, the movie was a massive downer At the end my take away from this movie is “Nothing” I’m never going to watch it again and probably going to forget about it all together.

Go watch Enchanted 2007 instead, and actually have a enjoyable time

Who exactly is the target audience for this film?
Greta Gerwig has had a hit or miss career. Her film Little Women was fairly entertaining, but I found her film Lady Bird to be completely obnoxious. Same goes for Margot Robbie. I enjoyed her in Wolf Of Wall Street and Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, but really disliked I Tonya and Birds of Prey.
Now comes Barbie, based on the long running series of dolls from Mattel. Now as a guy, I never played with Barbies prefering to play video games over dolls, however my sisters enjoyed playing them and that's the question about this film. Who is the target audience for this film? Because on one hand it looked like a film designed for sixty year old women who never got over playing with their dolls and on another hand, its advertising is aimed at little girls even though some of the material maybe offensive to a lot of families.

The plotline, which is extremely thin, involves Barbie living the perfect life in Barbieland where Barbie dolls of all types live and where all the Kens hang out at the beach, Then all of a sudden Barbie escapes to the real world where she is treated like a dog really hammering home Greta Gerwig's misandry.

I can see this film having a decent opening weekend but expect it to drop like a rock in the following weeks when people realize this film is really just a one trick pony. The pink sets look nice but the screenplay and the annoying script are definitely going to divide audiences and this film really doens't have mainstream appeal at all. Most of all Will Farrel as the CEO of Mattel is about as annoying as ever and the misanderyt stereotypes are about entertaining as watching paint dry.
A one on a scale of 1-10. Save yourself the headache and see the much better Oppenheimer instead!

Why do people seem to enjoy this?
The first part of the movie and all the other scenes set in Barbie-land were a huge sensory overload for me. Everything is violently colorful, things happen super fast and everyone is screaming in a strange voice while trying to outscream each other. This Barbie-land is supposed to be a super joyful place but honestly it just made me nauseous. At this point I was praying for it to be over and had a really hard time following what's going on.

It gets better when they arrive in the real word, but I seriously don't get why people call it "deep" and "philosophical" because most of the dialouge is cliché at best and at times it's absolute cringe. It tries real hard to deal with serious topics but keeps explaining things like you're a 5-year-old.

Emotions are also portrayed a super weird way in this movie (I guess because we're dealing with dolls, but still, sometimes this level of over-acting just hurts to watch), and a lot of things happen randomly without any explanation. It's also not for (small) kids. There were a lot of really small kids in the cinema when I went and most of them were super confused with some even crying, it was clear they couldn't really follow the plot and didn't get most of the supposed jokes.

There’s an agenda being pushed forward and it’s all a massive statement. The format was terrible. Barbie is sold all over the world but apparently that wasn’t part of the inclusiveness and progressivism they tried to portray because it all happens in the US of course (they forgot that bit). There was lots of different Barbies but only one was fat ONE (they tried!) I went to a party preview of the movie and it was weird to see how divided people looked in the theatre. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A movie based on the stereotypical ideology that men and women are on war since the dawn of time. You know, Marx said it's a class struggle, Hitler said, it's a race struggle, and Mattel says it's a sex struggle. So, contrary to the factual laws of evolution, Mattel suggests that there is no benefit on cooperation between the XY and XX members of our species. Therefore, if you want liberation you have to go to war. A fictitious one, of course. Because if you take a look outside, you can see men working 24/7 with the sole purpose to oppress women, right? So, the next time that the statistics show that 95% of the deads in workplaces are men, or men dying sooner than their retirement age, you can blame the patriarchy. Yes, because a society controlled by men that don't favor men is as twisted as a Mattel's universe. Surely, Mattel's marketing effort with this movie has a "lesson": Pretend to be a hero by playing to be a victim. Because it's much better to be perceived as good person than being a good person, at least in the real world. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought the Barbie movie did a great job of portraying the issues women deal with but made men seem like an invasive pest that lacked redeeming qualities or complexity. If the story was about real life experiences then both sides should have been taken as seriously. I mean that would be truthful? I am by no means a conservative or political person. And honestly, I can't believe I'm actually writing a post defending men. But if I am being completely honest, an injustice is an injustice and i felt that this film was quite unjust towards a whole gender & sex. I just felt like this film was generalizing men as the worst of the stereotypes a lot of men try to break free from or have been harmed by. I understand the film was trying to suggest that it's this culture that's the problem, but they did that by using every male character in the entire film to portray all of men in a very lighthearted mockery while offering no real perspective on why this culture exists or why men are sexist. They just all were. Except Allan, but he didn't have any heroic qualities and was kinda abused/taken advantage of by the women. Most of these scenes were indeed funny, I laughed a lot, but at it's core it was really lacking a realistic understanding of what men actually deal with or what men actually do. It didn't offer a realistic solution for toxic men through any representation of what a healthy masculine figure looks like. Everything was real for the woman's perspective and everything was comedically disparaging for the men's perspective. Only women were real in this film; and that's kind of an issue for feminism if they want to be taken seriously by everyone. It's problematic to have a very carefully constructed, nuanced and empathetic view of one group of people but a negative if not shameful portrayal of another group of people. To say that it all ends peacefully because they let the "Kens" back in but only on their terms is pretty weak when you are judging a whole sex the entirety of the film and then the only scene where Ken has a single introspective thought is a comedic routine. Its kinda thrown in there to seemingly justify all the hatred.
I understand that this is a Barbie movie and is made for girls, but that doesn't really mean that what the film was suggesting was justified or authentic to the whole of the human condition. It was a pretty universally advertised film, it seemed more like a young adult-adult comedy than a kids film, at least thats how it was advertised. Even if it was only made for girls, I don't see this film bridging the gap between men and women by showing the human traits we share rather than the division between us.
Yes, I completely agree that there is a huge amount of toxic culture men need to do away with but feminism is about equality. There could have been a message about breaking gender stereotypes and uplifting both men and women away from these hateful ideologies; in a world where we don't have to put each other down or adhere to "an eye for an eye". That would be a message that upholds what equality is meant to mean.

It looks like Barbie. Walks like Barbie. Talks like Barbie. But, sadly it is not a Barbie movie... I will not be recommending this movie to anyone. This film focused more on the message it was trying to make than what the film was suppose to be about. An iconic, little girls toy and her imagination. As a genuine Barbie fan, I felt this film made a mockery out of me. It took out all the magic of why Barbie can do anything, be anyone while still loving pink and sparkles and dressing up. Instead she was consumed with dread, and was given a "reality check."

Legally Blonde is more of a Barbie movie than this one.

From the marketing I expected the movie to be a fun, 'fast-food' style movie with sub-par plot exploring the world of barbie with dance routines, songs and lame jokes.

What I got was a man-hating movie. It bashes and blames men. It mocks men and masculinity. It would've been acceptable if at the end there is a redemption arc. Eg. showing that both genders have their own unique skills and that by working side by side the world can be a better place. NOPE. The Kens started as useless beings with no power, say, or achievements. They exist for barbies only whenever it is convenient for her. At the end they are back where they started.

The marketing team should win the oscar this year for their deceiving adverts. They managed to lure kids and young teens to 2 hours of brainwashing.

Just ignore it, it's just another Ghostbusters 2016 and will be forgotten by September. Radical feminists desperately want people to get triggered by it, so imo best solution is just ignoring it. After all it's not well made movie anyway, so it simply doesn't matter. Of course it will affect Margot Robbie's and possibly other actors career. Pretty sure they lost a lot of fans, just by being part of this movie. But at the end of the day, it was their choice to be in this movie, so who cares. It really felt like this was made by someone who has never been hugged by a nice man. Or met one. It's just sad. I left it feeling sad. Is that the point? Marketing for this was also brilliant, I thought this would be a mashup of Enchanted and the Lego movie and just expected at worst it would be predictable. But women, we can do better than this whinefest. Men aren't all that bad. Really. Also, the world-building felt lazy. It could and should have been explored more - what does it mean that there's a 'barbie world' that people can just visit? What about actually using it to solve world issues? Are there other worlds like this? A Thundercats world? I want to know! Expand

It represented a fun flashback opportunity to expand our imaginations and remember the joy and laughter Barbie brought to us so many years ago. HOWEVER, I found it peculiar that the folks filing out of the nearby auditorium, donned in pink, were looking kind of sad or dejected. Whereas, those of us filing into the next theater to see the same movie were full of excitement and anticipation. Now I know the answer from a firsthand experience. It was underwhelming for the content, context and whimsy anticipated by my party of 3 and it left us disappointed to say the least. The best things about the movie were the set and special effects to create a Barbie like world. That was well done. The acting was also good enough (although I felt sorry for the actors having to bring their talent to such a poorly thought out storyline. The story was sub-par. A true missed opportunity to have audiences leave the theater full of joy and laughter, speaking of their experience; with memories and imaginations sparked again by Barbie. Instead, we left on a low note with all guests filing out in silence. Too bad! This movie made me want to warn as many people as I possible because there is already enough disappointment out in the world. Why pay $10+ to experience more disappointment in Barbie’s world. Yikes!! The movie, led by Margot Robbie, falls significantly short in character and plot development, focusing instead on a series of forced humour and moral grandstanding. This supposed self-aware take on the iconic doll's narrative appears more smug than insightful. The large ensemble of characters ends up feeling frustratingly interchangeable, diluting any attempt to present unique personalities.

While the art direction and visual design stand out, they are largely overshadowed by the film's inability to fully capitalise on the quirky and interesting concept of 'Barbie Land'. Instead, the movie chooses to spend more time in real-world settings that unfortunately offer little contrast or comedic value.

At its core, "Barbie" feels like a film made for the social media age - visually appealing, yet ultimately empty in content and purpose. Its primary appeal, it would seem, lies more in the experience of the pre-release hype and the resulting social media buzz than the movie itself. A missed opportunity indeed.

It's interesting because it used to be complete opposite. Margot Robbie used to be really cool/chill actress, but she has become more and more involved in these radical feminist movies. While on the opposite end, Jennifer Lawrence used to be kind of unlikable, but recently she seems to be way more normal and chill.

I guess that's just something that happens, some actresses don't know how to appreciate success and will get more radical, while others want to change for the better. It's just sad to see Margot going downhill like this, because she used to be very promising actress. But after Barbie, i'm not really interested to watch any of her movies anymore. Barbie was insultingly bad. It will have big opening at box office, because of the false marketing campaign, but i'm confident that it will have huge drop next week.

Will it make 1 billion dollars? I mean, who even cares at this point? It doesn't matter. It's a bad movie and it will remain a bad movie, no matter how much money it makes. It can make more money than Avatar and it will still be trash.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It starts first with a narration about how before the advent of the Barbie, most Victorian girls were catered into a motherly role due to only having baby dolls to take care for and not a womanly figure that those girls could relate to with jobs once just for the man. That's where we're then shown Barbieland, and the ultimate beach bum that's Ken while Barbie lives out her perfect life where every night is a girl's night. Until she starts to have strange thoughts of death, which manifest into her becoming more like a real person rather than a plastic doll; she's told she has to visit the "Weird Barbie" where she's told that she has to find the girl playing with her to figure out her family situation better (a plot so far reminiscent of Ursula from the Little Mermaid, especially with the P1NK look from being roughhoused by a careless toddler). Ken ends up sneaking for the ride and we're just seen how 'slobby' our society is, dudes getting all zany and catcalling before one slaps her ass then they get indicted after she hits him back. After all that, she meets the daughter of who proceeds to call her a 'fascist' and mention how 'she set the feminist movement back 50 years', all the while Barbieland is being transformed into a 'Kendom' as Barbie's Dreamhouse is now 'Ken's MoJo DoJo Casa House' with every southern country depiction possible complete with horses. We only witness the unfolding of after the mother overhears the Matel executive board and finds her real life Barbie, who offers to bring her back to her perfectly matriarchal life. After an empowering speech about women's rights, they proceed to formulate a plan that involves individually telling the speech to each Barbie after they're separated by their Ken's and gaslighting them into having their hayday until acting upon their insecure egos in order to break their patriarchy apart. Overall, a movie that comes off strongly like the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters; during which year, it was reviewed as being "stunning and brave" with the same misandry-esque storytelling (that time, replacing an all-male cast mind you). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having watched all the animated movies, I thought I'd take the time to see the theatrical release of Barbie's first live action film. And I've got to say, I really like the new direction they are taking with this franchise. While I usually have fun mocking the cheesiness of the old films, this was an entry I could actually take seriously for a change...for the most part. It's one of those situations where an average comedy is attached to a really powerful message. Barbie, played by Margot Robbie, has started to think about death for the first time in her life, and wonders why her feet are becoming more realistic. Weird Barbie tells her that she is responsible for making a doll owner upset. And she needs to head to the real world in order to figure out what went wrong. This is a trope I've seen before in plenty of other live action remakes of other nostalgic pop culture and I'm really glad it's not the focus of this film. Sure there are some boring human characters here and there. But fortunately, the focus of this film is never forgotten. And that focus is, taking a closer look into Barbie's signature message, "You can be anything".

Later in the film Barbie learns that she is responsible for stereotyping while attempting to empower women, and doubts herself. Wondering if she has caused more harm than good to girls across the globe. It's a message I've heard before and it's usually fixed by reinventing the character, similar to how Super Girl was seen in the past and how she is seen now in media. I was hoping they could perhaps explore that message a little more delicately than just having a group of angry teenagers shove it down our throats. But it's not the leading message of the film, so I say just save it for a sequel. As for the leading message of this film, it's realized in the third act where Ken has taken over Barbie Land, brainwashing all the dolls, and poisoning the land with stereotypical masculinity...and horses. I'll admit that second addition I'll admit is pretty funny. So it's up to Barbie and the forgettable mother and daughter pair to save everyone. Ken really works well as an antagonist, because his motivation is tied in with his lack of identity. But he takes a poor direction, taking away all the rights of the female dolls and only giving new rights to the male dolls. But after he is defeated he breaks down and learns from Barbie that he should figure how who "he is". Write his own definition. The great thing about this message is that, it's a reminder to the boys, men, and even those struggling with identity that they can choose how to live their life. Not with tradition, but rather with choice. It's okay for boys to like feminine things. It's okay for men to wear dresses if they want feel pretty. It's more than acceptable to do things women enjoy and vice versa. What matters is what you do explores a new meaning of freedom and feeling whole. And in a day an age where there are still millions of people that have yet to understand this message of being whoever you want. I say more power should go to films like this.

While the film isn't perfect, with its hit and miss comedy, its occasional lengthy exposition, a bit two much fourth wall breaking, and its forgettable human characters. The effects with how the dolls move and the messages are quite impressive. It may not be a masterpiece, but what this movie leaves its viewers with will be refreshing to look back on in the passing years. You can be anything...and you can inspire others to do the same.

Topnotch, flawless Some other human characters were underdeveloped compared to Barbie and Ken, but that was expected am excited to watch it again soon. The pacing is not perfect and its huge potential is not fully matched Cinematography is great here, Set pieces are outstanding and the Soundtrack is a masterpiece.

want to take a minute to take about Greta Gerwig she is so clever and talented hope this movie will push her to direct big blockbuster movies that she deserves I'm not someone who often watches comedies, so they don't make me laugh much, but if they all became as funny as Barbie, I might give it another go this film is a good critic of patriarchal rule, without overdoing it. It questions gender roles in a fluid way, and brings existential questions to the fore The Barbie movie had a very easy going start with parties, colors, and making fun of stereotypes. It's all very musical-like untill Barbie asks the question about dying which can be seen in trailer

This film is colorful and 'alive', making it a joy to view upon. The set pieces, especially in Barbieland, are brilliant- and it truly makes me want to know if they actually built out a real-life Barbieland set Going into Barbie with having little to no expectations at all can be such a delight. It was beautiful and brilliant, didn't expect it's gonna be too good. Greta tells the -ve side of the real world beautifully wrapped in humor and childhood nostalgia for manyMargot is the STAR, she's unreal man, whatever role she does it seems she's born for that

Margot Robbie as Barbie is best because even her name rhymes with barbie ;) saw oppenheimer yesterday and it was very slow and borring dont watch it all those five star are paid scam dont fall Ryan was brilliant and so was Will Ferrel, both did an outstanding job In the end, Barbie proves to be much more than just a marketing gimmick, showcasing a refreshing take on a beloved cultural icon and making it a must-see for anyone seeking a smart, humorous, and visually arresting cinematic adventure Barbie indeed subverted expectations and stereotypes. Overall, the movie was way more than I thought it would be and I definitely recommend it. The humor isn't hilarious but I chuckled when jokes were relatable. It's not made for everyone but try and keep a clear mind while watching it! The casting choice were sublime and each Barbie, Ken and even Alan nailed there performances The few cameos were also pretty fun, and with a lovely touch at moments

has it ups and downs but it was mostly entertaining and i think that was it's main goal and they succeeded in that If you are a Barbie fan you'll definitely have a blast This film is definitely not for kids, as it focuses on problems and dilemmas adults have to deal with. The writing isn't perfect by any means, but overall Barbie is a pretty fun adventure

And...it works surprisingly well for adults - not so much for kids

One time watch for visuals and light hearted story :)

Genius marketing made us believe this was a silly and funny movie about "what would happen if Barbie made it to real life". Turns out it's AGAIN a woke lecture about how awesome girls are and how bad men are. Don't support this political proganda.

Nobody wants to fight about non sense all the time. Now it's a movie. Not much happens but a lot of words are said and repeated a lot. Only reason we didn't watch Oppenheimer instead was because we were afraid we wouldn't have time because of something else but now we just regret our choice. We both thought No Hard Feelings and even Elemental would've been better movies to see instead. Gerwig tried to hard and fell flat. Expand

How can I describe the horror I feel when I realize this movie took years to make, received over $200 million dollars in a budget, was given such a beloved IP to play with, and was able to attract some of the top star power in the industry, and what was produced was just a single unbridled scream of hatred towards the male gender? Chances are, if you live in a society where you can make this movie, then the people you hate do not have the real power in it, you do. This movie doesn't just hate men, it loathes them. If this movie had been made targeting any other group, a public service announcement would be spread nationwide warning of violence against that group, news companies would report ever minute of every day of aggression towards them whether real or perceived, and the president would give a statement in support.

As a man, I truly fear for my physical safety being in the proximity of anyone who loved this movie. I am terrified for the development of any son in the grips of a parent who takes to heart its message.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The barbie movie is honestly so fricking weird;
The trailer made itself look like it was going to be focused on barbie and the barbie world, and from word of mouth, I thought it would be the barbie version of the LEGO movie, but the ACTUAL movie couldn't be further from the truth; The movie wants to be about barbie and celebrate barbie, with a whole song and speal about how barbie can do anything and can be anything, but at the same time tells in detail how barbie is bad because it's made by the patrairchicals systems and she damages women's rights. The story's message feels conflcited with itself to the pint where the only good character is, ironically, ken (who is made into a "bad guy" because he finds out about patriarchy). It's so **** weird, and that's the only way I can describe it TBH

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think a lot of the negative reviews really miss the point of the movie, people saying that the Barbieland segment was so fun and what they expected the movie to be, but then getting pissed that it moved into the real world and changed "for the worst", "got boring", or "was a slog to watch", are the exact reason this movie was made. Actually, I think they do get the point, but they think it's a negative point when really it's the opposite. The "real world" is an accurate representation of the real world, we live in a patriarchal society where teenagers need to be popular and mean to feel any sense of belonging, where mothers are seen as just that and nothing more. That's the point of the movie, and that's why it isn't for kids, it was never even marketed towards kids, just because it features Barbie doesn't make it a "Kid's Movie" it IS a movie about society, about feminism, about patriarchy. The scenes where Ken turned Barbieland into Kendom is a representation of the real world as well, when men don't feel "seen" they make everything about themselves, they were never hated, never belittled, they just weren't the main character for once, the Barbies were and men HATE not being the centre of attention, if you're offended by reading that, then you're the problem.
All the actors and actresses were perfectly cast, the soundtrack was amazing, and the points brought up were valid and eye opening.

People who didn't like this movie, never wanted to in the first place
