A full spectrum of emotions is experienced here amidst hilarious gender role reversal (enter: insecure man child Ken). Barbie is visually entertaining and cheeky with some surprisingly powerful scenes. America Ferrara’s character expressing her disgust for women’s lifelong battle with needing to measure up to society’s unrealistic expectations of women is brilliant! Definitely a must see mother/ daughter movie as it will spark some important conversation. The movie delivers on most level and is a must see in my opinion! Expand

While I must begrudgingly admit Barbie is better than it has any right to be, that doesn't mean it's great. This is a tolerable comedy with far too few laughs (about 5 in the whole film by my count).

If you're so aligned and don't listen carefully, appealing phrases and and sounds wash over you and sound good, but if you actually pay close attention or read text of it, it was incoherent nonsense saying very little, at best.

The pinnacle was the "It's hard to be a woman" speech by the America Ferrera character that sounds great until you listen critically. When you discard issues all humans face equally, you're left with a few only women face, but a bunch that where it's actually easy to be a woman. Women can't express fear!? They never get thanks for their role!? - seriously? You could easily list many unfair things women in particular have to face in life, but instead we got this drivel. And this is on top of the random inexplicable plot, that just makes no sense and it's a lightweight and weak movie.

It's otherwise likeable with had a number of sweet and hilarious moments and hints of depth trying to get out, but overall it was just incoherent and inexplicable, and the reactionary idiots aren't entirely wrong to point out misandry. I expect their very negative reviews, but I'm more baffled by the 10 star reviews that declare this almost perfect. I don't know what movie they watched but I think they just saw what they wanted to see, not what was on the screen.

I think the truthful score is somewhere in the middle- it's a very well-made film with respect to cinematography, scriptwriting, acting, dancing, singing etc... And I happen to think most of the central feminism points are very well argued and delivered. I agree with those in the comments who mention that there's no need to do this at the expense of men as the film does, although anyone who argues against the need for a feminist film probably needs to look no further than half the comments in red and the way many of them (certainly not all) speak to or about women. But as the day went on I kind had that “Ok, that kebab probably wasn’t a good idea.” The film is stunning in its production design and creativity, and Margot Robbie is perfectly cast as the Stereotypical Barbie. For the most part, the songs are catchy and performances are solid for the type of characters being portraying.

When we strip away the outside world and all the messaging, Barbie and Ken have a few poignant moments – Barbie realising she’s not as perfect as she’s been made to believe, or when Ken receives his first modicum of acknowledgement of being a sentient being he’s ever had in his life. They also share a couple learning and growth moments which I thought would pay off at the end of the film.

I don’t know why, but I was hoping for something that would actually enlighten its audience, to acknowledge that things are a mess and make intentional and meaningful steps to get us closer to understanding and equality. The Barbie brand, history, controversies are so engrained in our culture that this movie had a potential to change our perspective of the world, and what the future could be. That’s a lot of pressure for one film, I know.

However… this film is absolutely not immune to the not-so-subtle messaging that has permeated all forms of media and entertainment recently. In fact, it embraces it. So much so that you have a scene where a man walks up behind Barbie and slaps her on the backside, in broad daylight, in a crowded space, in front of her boyfriend…. And this kind of portrayal of men (alongside bumbling incompetent CEOs and sleazy police officers) appears to be how the film views the world.

Maybe it was this kind of over the top comical depiction of men and the world generally that allowed me to get through the movie and kind of enjoy it, but upon reflection, I realise now it’s just kind of… yuck.

Barbie had the rare opportunity to be a film experience that not only highlighted issues in the real world, but offer and foster some ideas for change. Instead, we receive divisive and mean-spirited attack on half the human population as well as anyone who thinks having a family is an acceptable path in life. And also flat feet and cellulite.

If you kind of switch off your brain for an hour and a bit, and don’t take this film too seriously, then maybe you’ll have a lasting positive memory after seeing this movie.

But if you need to do that to enjoy something, then you need to ask yourself: why?

Barbie's motto is "you can be anything," and while it may suit the doll perfectly, it appears insufficient for a movie.

Barbie is undoubtedly a lighthearted and humorous movie, as the material naturally lends itself to such qualities. However, other aspects of the film become distorted and lose clarity when attempting to convey a preachy tone.

The film presents important messages, but it struggles to choose a single focus, leaving the audience without a clear direction. The plot attempts to explore numerous concepts, but they are merely touched upon and lack depth.

Even characters like America Ferrera and her daughter, who only serve as catalysts for the adventure, are overshadowed by the larger plot and their dramatic undercurrents are left unexplored once they enter Barbieland.

The irony lies in the fact that Barbie's message of identity seems to resonate more with Ken, as his entire existence revolves around her. Ultimately, Ken is the one who gets to discover that he can achieve an identity of his own, whereas the stereotypical Barbie was not supposed to want to be human. Instead, she becomes human because of the things that America Ferrera's character imprinted on her such as her depression, her fears and anxieties, causing a change in her personality that requires assimilation since she can't go back to the way things were for her. This, in my view, is what weakens the film's impact.
While it successfully achieves humor and laughs where it has to, its attempt to address serious issues lacks the right balance for genuine resonance.

Nonetheless, it's worth exploring and embracing the film for what it is: a functional comedy. Avoid over-analyzing aspects that don't require such scrutiny and simply enjoy the experience it offers.

But still fun. The preeching and lecturing really weakened the second half, although people's enjoyment will likely be determined by their own politics. Ironically, the best thing about the film was Ken. Ryan Gosling stole the show with excellent comedy and an interesting sub plot about thhe finding purpose in the world.

The film suffers from trying to balance being a kids film with more adult themes and jokes, with a slightly inconsistent outcome.

Overall Review:

Firstly, in all my years of being a Cinema Connoisseur, it is rare to see a movie sell out as quickly and widespread as Barbie. So well done to the Barbie marketing team!

I walked in the cinema with no expectations, but I have to say I was overall pleasantly surprised with Barbie. I thought it might be the usual run of the mill silly kids movie, with a completely unserious/unrealistic storyline.

However, the Barbie storyline touched on a lot of serious real world issues and situations that many people can relate to. With that said, it did feel like a senseless musical at times, with unesscessary sing/dance scenes.

The essence of the film touches on the juxtaposition of what life would be like if women ruled the world (Barbie Land). And the real world we live in, which is male dominated. This was portrayed well, but did get abit too silly sometimes.

The level of acting from Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, were both bang on. Considering they were playing dolls, they kept a great balance between having to act silly, whilst still keeping a level of seriousness, so the sillyness doesn't go overboard.

Overall, "Barbie" was actually a decent watch with a good level of comedy and realism, whilst keeping the essence of what Barbie represents.

Isit worth a watch?... Whether you are a woman or man, young or old. Barbie has a little bit for everyone to relate to. So for that reason it is worth a watch, but don't go in with high hopes unless you are a die hard Barbie fan!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. NOT A FILM FOR CHILDREN! Some funny banter and scenes, but it's impossible to review because I do not know what I feel when watching it.

I am split between the good and bad, and there is a lot of bad.
A faux feminism film which perverts the truth in reality to try and make this crap about a fight against the Patriarchy, while Barbieland is a full fledged Matriarchy which keeps the male dolls down, and the only way to hold any status is to transition yourself to female (i.e: specifically the Doctor Barbie) which is a blatant form of misogyny on it's own.

After Barbie comes back to Barbieland/Kendom she struggles with not knowing where she fits in, because she doesn't fit in. She has no ambitions, no job, does nothing of substance throughout the film, and does not treat Ken as an equal partner.

How is that feminism?

Kendom's revolution was squashed because there is no violence in the film (besides the butt slap & the girls destroying their old dolls) and if you want a real democracy to flourish, let alone sustain a Kendom revolution - weapons are likely needed.

"Revolution is bloody, revolution is hostile, revolution knows no compromise, revolution overturns and destroys everything that gets in its way." - Malcolm X

Then the Matriarchy is restored, and the Kens ask to have some say with society going forward and are rejected.

Therefore it deserves a 5, and that's generous.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought the Barbie movie did a great job of portraying the issues women deal with but made men seem like an invasive pest that lacked redeeming qualities or complexity. If the story was about real life experiences then both sides should have been taken as seriously. I mean that would be truthful? I am by no means a conservative or political person. And honestly, I can't believe I'm actually writing a post defending men. But if I am being completely honest, an injustice is an injustice and i felt that this film was quite unjust towards a whole gender & sex. I just felt like this film was generalizing men as the worst of the stereotypes a lot of men try to break free from or have been harmed by. I understand the film was trying to suggest that it's this culture that's the problem, but they did that by using every male character in the entire film to portray all of men in a very lighthearted mockery while offering no real perspective on why this culture exists or why men are sexist. They just all were. Except Allan, but he didn't have any heroic qualities and was kinda abused/taken advantage of by the women. Most of these scenes were indeed funny, I laughed a lot, but at it's core it was really lacking a realistic understanding of what men actually deal with or what men actually do. It didn't offer a realistic solution for toxic men through any representation of what a healthy masculine figure looks like. Everything was real for the woman's perspective and everything was comedically disparaging for the men's perspective. Only women were real in this film; and that's kind of an issue for feminism if they want to be taken seriously by everyone. It's problematic to have a very carefully constructed, nuanced and empathetic view of one group of people but a negative if not shameful portrayal of another group of people. To say that it all ends peacefully because they let the "Kens" back in but only on their terms is pretty weak when you are judging a whole sex the entirety of the film and then the only scene where Ken has a single introspective thought is a comedic routine. Its kinda thrown in there to seemingly justify all the hatred.
I understand that this is a Barbie movie and is made for girls, but that doesn't really mean that what the film was suggesting was justified or authentic to the whole of the human condition. It was a pretty universally advertised film, it seemed more like a young adult-adult comedy than a kids film, at least thats how it was advertised. Even if it was only made for girls, I don't see this film bridging the gap between men and women by showing the human traits we share rather than the division between us.
Yes, I completely agree that there is a huge amount of toxic culture men need to do away with but feminism is about equality. There could have been a message about breaking gender stereotypes and uplifting both men and women away from these hateful ideologies; in a world where we don't have to put each other down or adhere to "an eye for an eye". That would be a message that upholds what equality is meant to mean.

It DEEPLY explores the concepts of death, patriarchy, feminism, dare-I-say-it wokeness, etc., concepts that SHOULD NOT be explored TO THAT EXTENT in what should obviously have been a family- and children-oriented film. It's terribly disappointing and dull, and it would confuse many demographics, particularly the children, who would not understand what they are watching. > Related media: I know very little of the Barbie universe.
> Negatives: > 1. After the fun intro, it quickly degenerates into a disappointing and dull film, with only occasional fun bits. I had looked at my watch several times and had really wanted to leave after the third quarter. > 2. It was a strange decision to DEEPLY discuss the concepts of death, patriarchy, feminism, wokeness, etc. in what was supposed to be a family- and children-oriented film..
> 3. If you hate Hollywood shoving wokeness and feminism down your throat, you'll really hate this film! For me, it was more like, 'What the heck is this?!! I don't mind a film imparting wokeness and feminism to the viewer, but do it gradually and do it cleverly. For this film, it was utterly in-your-face and done much, much worse than in the poor Captain Marvel and any other similar terrible films since. > 4. Which demographics is this film targetting? Certainly not the children, who will have no idea what the film is about! They must have been bored when watching this. Teenagers and young adults would not be interested in the oft-repeated wokeness message while older adults had never understood the message in the first place.
> 5. A few parts of the film appears to be designed for the stage (ala Broadway or West End) use and they really looked out of place in this film. Some films get away with this; this film just failed to do so. > 6. Female Mattel employee, Gloria, has a daughter who is quite relevant to the story. However, she frequently appears in the background, with nothing to do. This is a sign of bad directing and writing. >

Positives: None.

How would the different age groups rate this: > Children: Terrible (can't understand it at all and boring) > Teens: Poor > Young adults: Average
> Medium-age adults: Average > Older adults: Poor. > My rating: 2/5 (no half scores). Don't even bother watching it on TV.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Barbie is not a 1 and it's not a 10. People usually cling to one thing they like or dislike about the film, and base their whole score on this. Where Barbie excels is its cast and visual style, and some jokes land, mostly in the first 30 minutes of the film. However the moral/message of this movie is very cringe at certain points. I am dedicating my review to this cringe and how this is not the message we should be giving little girls, so if you're not interested, stop reading.

In Barbie World, only Barbies are allowed to live in a house or hold a power position, and (Gosling) Beach Ken can just go live on the beach or something. See, in Barbie world, the roles are reversed to the real world, or i should say 'how this movie perceives the real world'

The director Greta Gerwig, despite being a millionaire woman in the real world, seems to think that the “real world” is a place where all men are stupid sexist pigs who just got their positions in life because of that big dangly thing between their legs. And the movie really wants to hammer it home to you that the Barbie world is just perfect because it’s opposite the ‘real world’, a world where men (Kens) need to live on the streets like hobos, and only women hold positions of power. A Ken couldn’t hold a high-power position in the real world because they are just so darn stupid!

But are these Kens really so different from the men in the ‘real world’? The movie thinks the men in the ‘real world’ are way worse, especially those darn construction workers! Man, if you are a construction worker, you should probably not watch this movie because the film producers do not think highly of you. The movie takes two separate scenes with separate construction workers to really hammer home that construction workers are just generally sexist pigs and punching them for even talking to you is completely acceptable.

There is a scene where Ken goes to the hospital and tries to talk to the ‘doctor’, but just assumes that the woman he is talking to couldn’t be a doctor, because she’s a woman! Even though Ken literally comes from a world ruled by women and he’s probably never even seen a ‘male doctor’ in his life, they throw away the movie’s own established logic to make a ‘Men so sexist!’ joke. My girlfriend and I counted one male in this movie who was not a complete idiot, sexist, or beta and that was the lifeguard who told Ken that he couldnt be a lifeguard because he couldn’t swim, because Beach Ken was too general to have any actual specific talents that could be paying jobs at the beach, making it one of the funny jokes of this movie! Because there are funny, self-aware parts of this movie, it’s just weighted down by this awkward messaging, which goes full-throttle 30-45min into the movie.

The movie could have spent the time that was spent preaching about political messages to flesh out the relationship between the mother and daughter. Instead, the movie barely focused on their relationship. The mother and daughter ‘bonding’ in this movie is literally the mom going on multiple long-winded and chaotic rant monologues about feminism to men, and the daughter going ‘gee i never knew that my mom was a feminist? I love her now.’

To the Barbie producers, when even my feminist friend is calling your movie ‘sexist cringe’, you gone done messed up! Fighting and ‘ism’ with an ‘ism’ is not cool. Jokes are all fun and games and fortunately many of the jokes here are good, but the serious message of this movie is ‘All men are sexist lazy pigs, and should be subservient to women’. That’s not a joke. That’s the actual ‘lesson’ at the end of the movie. Just what?

Dishonest advertising for a man-hating propaganda piece, when will these types of movies get boring for the wokeists? Then, after all their attacks on men and masculinity, they wonder why young men are inspired by a figure like Andrew Tate (hint: maybe you're the problem).

Gerwig's idea of the battle of the sexes feels like it's been hermetically sealed in a plastic toy box since the '70s. The misogyny of the real world depicted in this film is so over the top that it doesn't even work as satire. Men don't act like that where I live. (Have men EVER acted this way, slapping the ass of a stranger in broad daylight at the beach?) Anecdotally, I know and encounter hundreds of males. Most if not all of them are generally concerned with being respectful of women and are, to varying degrees, making a good faith effort to be an ally and treat women as equals. It's confusing and regressive for a film like this to depict all men as drooling, ass slapping morons.

When the film got going my initial thought was "this is genius, using barbie to unpack the psychological pressures of advertising and societal expectations on women", subverting the IP toy film concept. It also seemed for a bit like it might go one step further and take a crack at the ways boys are being neglected in a post feminist landscape through the emasculation of the Ken characters. Unfortunately it didn't pull either of these off. Its conclusions were vague and felt as fake deep and plastic as the dolls this movie is based on.

The style is there, the costume and set design is there, everything looks great and sounds great. The performances are also there, Margot Robbie as Barbie is perfect casting and Ryan Gosling especially is the big standout, and is easily the best part of the film. However, it's the on-the-nose delivery of its message and themes, that clashes poorly with its meandering vagueness, one that is both relentless and repetitive. The film is very message heavy, but instead of saying and doing anything interesting with this topic, it instead just kind of meanders aimlessly at moments. Expand

Writer-director Greta Gerwig’s latest offering, co-written with collaborator Noah Baumbach, features a dreadful script that’s about as subtle as a young adult novel, drones on and on and on for about 30 minutes longer than it needs to be, becomes endlessly repetitive, and incorporates story threads that could have easily been scaled back or eliminated entirely (such as those with Will Ferrell and Michael Cera). What’s more, much of the dialogue is either stupefyingly juvenile or sounds more like “writing” than anything anyone would actually say (even for a fictional fantasy character), with attempts at humor that often fall woefully flat. And, to be honest, for all intents and purposes, the project comes across like a two-hour commercial for Mattel (even if the company manages to find ways to poke fun at itself). To its credit, “Barbie” does have a few strengths going for it, such as its superb production design, some genuinely clever humor (especially its opening pre-titles sequence and occasional asides), and fine performances by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling (who manage to make this material look better than it actually is), as well as a heartwarming appearance by Rhea Perlman. Beyond that, though, this is handily the most overrated, overhyped release of the summer movie season, one that I’ll easily forget before year’s end – and one that conclusively proves the power of marketing, no matter what the quality of the merchandise being promoted. That being said, there are moments where the tone shifts abruptly, and I felt like I was being lectured by a liberal arts college professor. I don’t agree with the ideology being lectured. I think men and women have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages in society, and this movie offers a one-sided commentary on the difficulties of womanhood. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 'Barbie' was more of a political movie promoting feminism across all aspects in human life rather than a film of what Barbie really is like. As a man, I found to be slightly unsettled and uncomfortable watching the film as all the time i was watching, men were considered baddies whilst women were heroes. I get that because it's all about Barbie, but it kind of felt one-dimensional and even a little shallow. The end of the film really angered me because she decided to become... a HUMAN! Yes, A Human! In a film about dolls? That was a mistake. The point of the film was so Barbie could understand what life is like besides being a barbie, and she chooses to be human? It completely defeats the purpose of dolls! On a good note, The acting was great and the setting was fabulous, but i can't shake off the feeling that this film is almost an insult to men, because of how badly they are trying to spread the word for feminism in this generation's kids. The story is about Barbie who suffers an existential crisis. The film was written and directed by Greta Gerwig with writing help by Noah Baumbach.

Already, the film has been nominated for “The Next Big Thing” by Queerty, and won “Most Anticipated Film” by HCA Award.

On a personal note, I absolutely loved Barbie when I was a little girl. She was my favorite toy ever and I played with her for hours, changing her outfits and accessories with every outing I took her on. For me, it was all about her gorgeous clothes. My angel mother hand-sewed even more clothes for me and Barbie to enjoy. I had it all: her house, camper, car, etc. She could do anything and had such a hot boyfriend, Ken, who really was just another accessory as portrayed in the movie.

I wanted this movie to just be fun and sweet, but there is a serious anti-male undertone throughout and it’s being labeled as angry feminist propaganda. Are those two things true? Sadly, yes.

THINGS I LIKED:
Margot Robbie is a goddess. She’s the perfect “stereotypical” Barbie. Her only request to the director was to create a swimming pool that went from her bedroom to her swimming pool. Great idea! I would love that too! We even get to hear her sing a tiny bit. Young children and grown adults are now donning all things pink and celebrating feminine power while lining up to watch this movie in theaters.
Ryan Gosling gives a fantastic performance as Ken. His perfectly tan texture looked exactly like the doll I had while growing up. When he saw his daughter’s Ken doll tossed into the mud next to a smashed lemon, he immediately texted director Greta Gerwig the message, “I shall be your Ken. His story must be told.” Ha ha We get to hear him sing and see him dance. He is Kenough.
Ariana Greenblatt is such a natural. I fell in love with her when I first saw her in the movie Love and Monsters. You can see my review of that cute movie at https://moviereviewmom.com/?s=love+and+monsters
The cast is filled with fan favorites like Kate McKinnon, Will Smith, John Cena, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Rhea Perlman, and all narrated by the legendary Helen Mirren. It’s entertaining to see the cast list because there are so many actors listed as “Barbie” and “Ken.”
I had a brunette Barbie that looked just like Emma Mackey. Emma is such a doppelganger for Margot Robbie in real life! I also had a Skipper like the one in the movie!
The music is fun, peppy, and energetic.
The set designs look perfectly Barbie with that pink, plastic texture. So much attention to detail was given, such as the exact font that was used in the movie to match the font we see in her marketing in real life.
There’s so much visual and spoken humor.
America Ferrera’s speech about how difficult it is to be a woman in today’s world had a lot of truths in it that most women have probably experienced.
I always get a kick out of movies that reference other movies. That happens several times in this film.
The film definitely celebrates womanhood, but there are darker themes in the mix that cast a shadow over what could have been a perfectly gentle movie for little girls and their mothers. Why do movies and women think they have to demean men in order to empower themselves? One of the movie’s messages is that men are idiots and only tolerated when it serves women.
Part of me really loved seeing the female empowerment element of the movie, but part of me was really felt bothered by some of the subtle messaging that the patriarchy is evil.
Some of the Barbies are actually Trans actors. One of those actors said the movie is “candy with a little poison” and another said that this movie would end the gender debate forever.
Who is the target audience for this movie? If it’s supposed to be for mothers and their young daughters, then why are there so many sexualized jokes?
I’m really bothered by the line that said, “Women hate women, and men hate women. That’s the one thing they can agree on.” The movie makes the message that men and women are better off without each other. The movie portrays Mattel as being completely run by men; however, the CEO of the company for 30 years was a woman. Today, the Board has 5 women on it. The message seems to be that women should turn men against one another to save our society from the patriarchy. “Make the men complacent and then you can take the men’s power.”
I hate it when people use the term “fascist” because it’s always used incorrectly.
Some of the characters also bash capitalism, while the film studio continues to sell movie tickets and merchandise like crazy.
There are some plot points that have serious holes in them.
There is a lack of consistency. For example, sometimes Barbie moves stiffly like a plastic doll and other times, she moves like a normal human.

But, I can tell you that it's really just a movie for grown women, not men, and not kids either. Also, anyone who tries to tell you there is no messaging and agenda stuff here is lying out their *ss. Weirdly though, it just made me for sorry for the people trying say whatever they were trying to say there, rather than the anger I was feeling at the idea of it when I learned about it before watching the film. There's something really just immature about the ability of the writers and filmmakers way of going about it that just made me feel sorry for them and their lack of ability to communicate properly. It's no wonder they're so angry and bitter and have to really be on the nose with the stuff they want to say, because I don't think they actually know how else to be. And, like I said, that's just sad. I'm surprised to say that I think the men making movies in general, despite what you might have been told about men, are actually better at honestly and maturely interpreting and understanding the world around them and then communicating real thoughts and feeling openly and authentically than the women who wrote and made this movie who are mostly just venting like an angry teenager at a parent or something. :-o Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A greatly executed movie with an evil message. I am so conflicted about this one. I went to see it with my fiancée, and we both had a good laugh, the movie was great stylistically, pretty well-acted apart from some instances (I understand Simu Liu is a good-looking guy but he doesn't have range to pull this off) and generally well-made. But the message, my oh my the message. We start off with little girls literally destroying baby dolls like "f motherhood I wanna be a fireman". Then we have a Barbie society where all men are just window dressing and generally doddering fools. Then we switch to the "real" world where despite all the work of RBG and voting rights and equal opportunity programs women are still oppressed and publically harassed. As if the work of the titans of female rights never happened. And all of this is like... Okay sure it's a skewed representation but then the final resolution of the movie isn't that "men and women should work together to achieve greatness" (ergo: equality), no, it's "we Barbies have to oppress the Kens again because that's how the world will be perfect". And I'm sitting there like what?? That's such an evil message. Equality should be the goal, and equality is not one sex oppressing the other because the other is by definition flawed beyond repair. I also had a conversation about the movie with my fiancée to see if she actually felt like the final monologue. She said she does feel that way, but she never thought it's the evil men who make her feel that way. I as a man wouldn't want any woman to feel this way and I never thought I did anything to make them feel like this. And neither do my friends. So I feel like the male behavior has been severely misrepresented but it's like sure, many movies did that to women before, fair enough, but bottom line this message of "oppress or be oppressed" is such an evil, evil message.

It is every girls understanding of the world no matter their size, shape, or color. It captures the raw essence of womanhood while remaining funny and beautiful. The nostalgia of the film is immeasurable. Every frame is so wonderfully shot. Greta Gerwig has once again amazed and captivated an audience. The little girl inside me thanks everyone who was a part of making this film. I am so grateful I got to experience with my great grandma, grandma, mom, sister, and friends.

More on the film:
The casting department did not fail on any character. The side characters amazed in their roles such as Michael Cera as Alan. The costume department killed it! The outfits were amazing! I’m sure Halloween will be filled with attempted replicates! Each film frame was amazing. It would take another viewing the analyze the small details. The narration was spot. Above all else—- the script and pure raw performance… wow. The line delivery was honest no matter a joke or a serious take on womanhood. Any woman who knows Barbie needs to see this movie. Any woman who understands womanhood needs to see this movie.

The music is good and the plot moves along at pace but its like it was written by an angsty tween. "Yay feminism" is about as deep as the message gets and its pretty much the entire purpose and plot of the film. It doesn't offer up anything to think about, just a bubblegum world that is just a carbon copy of the toys. With all the "Barbenhiemer" hype and marketing I expected more from the movie, Oppenheimer and Barbie are about as polar opposites of film-making as its possible to get.
