Many are critical about the impact that this movie may have on younger kids, but I do question whether these children would be negatively affected by issues and terms that are not appearing relevant to them specifically in the context of the cosmetic child applicable backdrops.

I think this movie is particularly relevant for teens discovering themselves and considering the way society impacts on their emotions, on adults who are still struggling with the challenges of patriarchy and matriarchy in society, and the older generations who are set in their ways and could take more time to consider how things are impacting younger generations.

I never expected to leave a film about a plastic Mattel Childs toy and leave with my inner child sobbing and healed. Themes of the effects of patriarchy and an existential crisis.
Growing up I was told by aged 14 to throw away my barbie because I was "too old" to keep them anymore. Ripping away a part of my adolescence as I became an older teenager. Watching this film rekindled and healed my inner teenager, knowing the part of myself and the part of themselves so many girls threw away to become adults. Abandoning childhood naivety as they realised the effects of the patriarchy. Barbie is so much more than a doll, she taught so many little girls they could be anything they wanted. I had so many barbies as a little girl and I loved them all. They still remain a pleasant memory of my bygone adolescence. This film brought so many girls together to just bond over what it means to be a woman. To nurture our inner children.

A big up to the actors who worked so hard on it. I loved the Ken storyline involved aswell and it was actually one of the best parts of the movie. We don't even have to say about the soundtrack as it was one of the best soundtracks ever, I loved 'I'm just Ken' as it showed how Ken felt towards Barbie. 5/5 movie and I'd say one of the best movies ever made! I would love to see a Barbie 2. #Kenergy Expand

It was delightfully bonkers, but it's self-aware of the silliness and just has fun with it. Everything she directs is an instant favorite. I loved every second of it! So many moments made me cry and laugh. Gloria's monologue about what it's like to be a woman is beautiful and poignant but barely scratches the surface. I hope this is a feminist awaking for many young fems and a wake-up call for many men. The soundtrack is flawless. Billie Eliish's song has had me in tears all week. I love being a woman and I love that this movie celebrates the nuances from the silliness to the suffering and everything in between. In a world of kens, be an Allen. Expand

Everything from the writing, to the characters, to the acting, to the soundtrack, to its quality as an adaption, to its surprising depth... Is just absolutely amazing. Though some aspects of the ending can feel a bit muddled if you think about it, the movie is otherwise absolutely fantastic. The only reason this has a mediocre user score is because of dumb review bombers.

I think the truthful score is somewhere in the middle- it's a very well-made film with respect to cinematography, scriptwriting, acting, dancing, singing etc... And I happen to think most of the central feminism points are very well argued and delivered. I agree with those in the comments who mention that there's no need to do this at the expense of men as the film does, although anyone who argues against the need for a feminist film probably needs to look no further than half the comments in red and the way many of them (certainly not all) speak to or about women. But as the day went on I kind had that “Ok, that kebab probably wasn’t a good idea.” The film is stunning in its production design and creativity, and Margot Robbie is perfectly cast as the Stereotypical Barbie. For the most part, the songs are catchy and performances are solid for the type of characters being portraying.

When we strip away the outside world and all the messaging, Barbie and Ken have a few poignant moments – Barbie realising she’s not as perfect as she’s been made to believe, or when Ken receives his first modicum of acknowledgement of being a sentient being he’s ever had in his life. They also share a couple learning and growth moments which I thought would pay off at the end of the film.

I don’t know why, but I was hoping for something that would actually enlighten its audience, to acknowledge that things are a mess and make intentional and meaningful steps to get us closer to understanding and equality. The Barbie brand, history, controversies are so engrained in our culture that this movie had a potential to change our perspective of the world, and what the future could be. That’s a lot of pressure for one film, I know.

However… this film is absolutely not immune to the not-so-subtle messaging that has permeated all forms of media and entertainment recently. In fact, it embraces it. So much so that you have a scene where a man walks up behind Barbie and slaps her on the backside, in broad daylight, in a crowded space, in front of her boyfriend…. And this kind of portrayal of men (alongside bumbling incompetent CEOs and sleazy police officers) appears to be how the film views the world.

Maybe it was this kind of over the top comical depiction of men and the world generally that allowed me to get through the movie and kind of enjoy it, but upon reflection, I realise now it’s just kind of… yuck.

Barbie had the rare opportunity to be a film experience that not only highlighted issues in the real world, but offer and foster some ideas for change. Instead, we receive divisive and mean-spirited attack on half the human population as well as anyone who thinks having a family is an acceptable path in life. And also flat feet and cellulite.

If you kind of switch off your brain for an hour and a bit, and don’t take this film too seriously, then maybe you’ll have a lasting positive memory after seeing this movie.

But if you need to do that to enjoy something, then you need to ask yourself: why?

Barbie hit on so many real life problems and had me reflecting on all the stages of my own girlhood, and my moms, and her moms. As women we all have so much power and potential that for too long has been diminished and undermined by men, and even by other women, as we’ve been conditioned to point the knife we were handed by them against ourselves and each other. Everyone was laughing and crying in the theater together and the community feeling of everyone dressed in pink was such a cute human moment. Not to mention having a hard time finding parking because every spot was filled; as were our hearts during this wonderful extremely important film. Thank you Margot & every single person who took part in making that experience happen. I cannot wait to watch it again!!!!! Expand

In the hands of Greta Gerwig, the typical behavior of dolls and dolls, via imagination, takes on a critical form and points to many paths, visiting metalanguage, political-social relations, patriarchy and feminism, feelings (including the arrogant and insensitive posture of Barbie in front of Ken; as well as the sick transition of the doll in front of his girlfriend), such as existential crises or the acceptance of one's own social and gender condition. The work fulfilled the promise that we would have a product different from what one could imagine from a live-action Barbie. It is the assumed use of passive artificiality to show the contradictions, the suggestions of progress and the possibilities of a Universe with the face of the 1950s that no one ever had the courage to show what it really was, in all its nuances and possibilities of transformation. Para Hombre: No necesitas la aprobación de nadie, ni tener un acompañante, tú solo puedes ser lo que quieras ser.

Barbie's motto is "you can be anything," and while it may suit the doll perfectly, it appears insufficient for a movie.

Barbie is undoubtedly a lighthearted and humorous movie, as the material naturally lends itself to such qualities. However, other aspects of the film become distorted and lose clarity when attempting to convey a preachy tone.

The film presents important messages, but it struggles to choose a single focus, leaving the audience without a clear direction. The plot attempts to explore numerous concepts, but they are merely touched upon and lack depth.

Even characters like America Ferrera and her daughter, who only serve as catalysts for the adventure, are overshadowed by the larger plot and their dramatic undercurrents are left unexplored once they enter Barbieland.

The irony lies in the fact that Barbie's message of identity seems to resonate more with Ken, as his entire existence revolves around her. Ultimately, Ken is the one who gets to discover that he can achieve an identity of his own, whereas the stereotypical Barbie was not supposed to want to be human. Instead, she becomes human because of the things that America Ferrera's character imprinted on her such as her depression, her fears and anxieties, causing a change in her personality that requires assimilation since she can't go back to the way things were for her. This, in my view, is what weakens the film's impact.
While it successfully achieves humor and laughs where it has to, its attempt to address serious issues lacks the right balance for genuine resonance.

Nonetheless, it's worth exploring and embracing the film for what it is: a functional comedy. Avoid over-analyzing aspects that don't require such scrutiny and simply enjoy the experience it offers.

Greta Gerwig is smart, and if you’re willing to spend more than two seconds to think about the movie you’ll realize that it gives no easy answers to the political and moral questions it raises. Some people will find this unsatisfying, but only a moron would say that this makes the movie bad.

My theater was packed, and there was massive energy in the crowd. The movie was littered with hilarious jokes and the funniest musical numbers I’ve seen since Enchanted (2009). Both Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling deliver phenomenal performances. One of the best movies I’ve seen this year, can’t wait to watch it again.

But still fun. The preeching and lecturing really weakened the second half, although people's enjoyment will likely be determined by their own politics. Ironically, the best thing about the film was Ken. Ryan Gosling stole the show with excellent comedy and an interesting sub plot about thhe finding purpose in the world.

The film suffers from trying to balance being a kids film with more adult themes and jokes, with a slightly inconsistent outcome.

This handcrafted ball of serotonin is an absolute delight, leaving your heart brimming with joy from start to finish. Trust me, my cheeks were hurting too, but it was a small price to pay for the unbridled happiness that ensued.

In the magical realm of Barbieland, Oscar-worthy set designs work like portals, whisking you away to a realm of imagination and wonder. The chemistry between Margot and Ryan is nothing short of spectacular, radiating an irresistible charm that leaps off the screen and captures your heart.

Beyond the surface, the film's plot weaves a tapestry of surprises, defying predictability with cunning twists that keep you guessing throughout. Amid the laughter, "Barbie" serves as a brilliant mirror, reflecting upon society's norms, dismantling stereotypes, and fearlessly confronting issues of gender inequality and toxic masculinity. Such clever social commentary adds depth and meaning to this seemingly carefree adventure.

As for the comedy, prepare for a sidesplitting experience! Joke after joke lands perfectly, leaving you in stitches and gasping for breath. However, the true comedic gem is none other than Will Ferrel, who delivers a performance that leaves a lasting impression. With impeccable timing and wit, he steals the spotlight in every scene, creating comedic gold that will resonate with audiences of all ages.

While the movie does wear the hat of a toy advertisement, it walks the tightrope adeptly. Balancing appeal to the younger audience with engaging entertainment for adults, "Barbie" strikes a perfect harmony that caters to both ends of the spectrum.

With all the praise deservedly sung, there is only one minor drawback – the movie ends too soon! As the credits roll, you'll find yourself yearning for more of this delightful and captivating experience, a testament to the film's greatness.

The humour was more catered to adults as alot of the topics that the film covered were things children are unfamiliar with. Although it had a kid friendly aesthetic and marketing. Honestly they had to many ideas and it just didn’t work well together. I don’t usually use this word but the movie got so woke that i started hate watching the film.
America Ferrera and her speech about feminism had me cringing, it didn’t even feel empowering it just felt so on the nose and her speech was nothing original but rather statements on the world which have been said time and time again… I can appreciate the film for what it is though , the sets and actors can actually act and they definitely had comedic timing. Overall the execution was messy. and I can completely understand if you did enjoy this , it just did not tickle my fancy.

Big summer funtime must see!
Pink bubbles of the compassion, seriousness, and joy. Rejoice, a spectacular spectacle masterwork.

This film delves into Barbisplanation as to why Barbie, this so specific figurine has the ideal imaginations of women across every spectrum, every country is front and center. The complete humanitarian nature and playfulness is exemplified through this kitch comedy drama film.
It's not so much what Barbie looks like but the dreams of what lives can be for little girls when they grow up.
That's the greatness Barbie imbues and inspires in girls.

If males or men poo-poo this film, it only shows their inadequate understanding of girls and women and why they're on the outside, and why the fail at partnershipping females.

This film has brilliantly executed Barbie's world, lifestyle, and friends.
It's actually quite genuine ingenious and sincere to show you as it is.
All the cardboardness and hard plastic grounds why the fantasies it evokes are so poignant and real.
Everyone can play everyday without any harm.

Sure the props are poofy and fluffy,
however they do not define Barbie.
Neon yellows, peach pink to magenta pink
super convertibles and the boatiest of boats
Fur coat Ken to hobby horse Ken
Yes, it's all there.
The cherry is just that Barbie can be ordinary or and ideal.
A super extraordinary everyworldly accomplished archetype.

The director Greta Gerwig excels at storying telling with camp, parody, satire, big musical numbers, and drama. Equally firing all burners at all times.
A great opus of subtleness and condensation of Barbiessence.

And perfect casting.
Margot Robbie is just outstanding embodiment and her Barbie is pure finesse. Her core gives absolute meaning and believability to the whole film. We believe in her and root for her. Pure Aces. Just fun and wow.
Ryan Gosling unrequited hokeyness is so apropos. He makes up laugh with him, for him, at him because he is so us when we get happy, quirky, humiliated, or ignored. He's such a cut-up.

The writing dialogue by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach is served deliciously pink with no apologies.

A rainbow cornucopia of explosive and thrilling musical numbers, characters and quippy animations. Finally, it safe fun fiesta. For sure, double entendres are everywhere and you don't have to get them to just enjoy the sensationalism and sentiments. Kids will enjoy it like a circus or parade so bring them.

It will annoy anyone who doesn't agree with the premise that basically humans should be treated better, and humans need to stop punching down in order to lift themselves up. Ryan Gosling's turn as stereotypical Ken is a delight but Allen... Allen was a wonderful surprise! Greta's script walks the line of not annoying Mattel (IP) too much and not overplaying the point that, yes, we know Barbie dolls are very problematic. There was cheering in our screening. TLDR: This film is life-changing!

Barbie is a fantastic film that tackles the idea of how patriarchy has effected our society and how no matter what, women can't really win because of it. Its a funny, quirky and emotional masterpiece and if you disagree you are most likely stuck in the nostalgia of the old Barbie animated movies (which were based on stories wriiten by old white men) or have so many internalised prejudices that you mentally cannot handle the thought of a women being something other than an object. The cast went above and beyond in this movie and I will 100 percent be seeing this film in movies again and bying it when it comes out on DVD.

All the hype for very little buzz.

I just finished watching the Barbie movie and to say that I’ve been let down, by what once was a nostalgic love story from my childhood is an understatement.

I’ve read through so many of the 1 STAR reviews, and everything said so far is what I felt and thought.

This wasn’t the love story I think we all hoped for, or that was reflected in the movies previews (it was all a lie), in fact if I knew what this movie was actually going to be about (feminism, hatred for men etc) I would not have wasted my time or money on a ticket.

We go to the movies to get lost in excitement, Aww and wonder, to escape the mundane, to live vicariously through the actors on the screen…

The movie started off well, with all the glitz and glam your once young heart had desired, Ryan Gosling played a fantastic Ken, and Margo Robbie, if her character had been written better would have also been amazing.

Instead this movie was boring, it was man hatting much of the way through, I found myself checking my phone, waiting for it to end, and thinking will this get any better? Will I get a refund if I leave now?

Will Ferrel who is one of my favorite actors wasn’t memorable, the only memorable part of this movie is the love I have lost for the Barbie and Ken love story we all had hoped to see from this film.

I can’t believe Mattel were happy with its release, I feel like it was damaging to the Barbie brand.

This movie definitely isn’t for kids, or for people who once loved Barbie growing up.

Save yourself some money, and the heart break and just don’t even bother.

At the end of the movie, I looked around the theater and saw people sitting with all of this pretty Barbie propaganda and laughed as that’s not what the movie was about, or made you feel.

In fact I think the movie leaves you feeling somewhat empty, and sad, so much potential just wasted and for what?

Movie was overtly, passively-aggressively (do these cancel each other out?) "political." It made me realize how embedded some people are in their meatbodies. There must be something that happens to make some females (and males) draw strong gender lines. As someone neutral on the issue, I found it to be educational about the state of consciousness is to a large number of people. Glorious dance battle and "beach off". Liberal amount of 4th wall breaking. Maybe the film will leave a viewer ultimately feeling like "gender" is all a bunch of **** as the main human said, patriarchy and Barbie were invented because tough **** happens, and it feels good to have a excuses or outlets; but it probably won't. Barbie is a perfect, funny, sad, inspiring movie. Everything about it was so perfect. It showed perfectly what’s happening in the real world. Like Taylor Swift once said, **** the patriarchy.”
The movie is feminist, but it doesn’t mean it’s men hating movie. It’s 2023, it’s time for men to understand what feminism is. It’s not “hating men.”
I related to Barbie so much with her existential crisis. We all go through it. Margot Robbie embodied Barbie so perfectly. She was born to play this role. She did it so perfectly. Margot is truly one of the best actresses our days, there is no role she can’t play. She is so dedicated to every character she plays and she makes them her own. She is perfect. It’s a shame she doesn’t have an Oscar yet.
Ryan Gosling, could anyone imagine he would be such a great comic? I knew he is talented but he is just perfect. Anyone who doubted him as a Ken apologize to him right now! I can’t imagine better Ken. He is perfect. He’ll definitely win an Oscar!
America Ferrera, what a performance! She was so good. Her monologue was everything. Her chemistry with Margot and Ariana Greenblatt was great. Ariana is a promising young actress, she will be a big star one day! Every actress and actor was so good. Even tho some had less screen time than others, I think everyone did great with their parts. Greta Gerwig proved once again, she is a genius! In Greta we trust! The movie was incredible! Deserves all the hype it got! I enjoyed it so much! Can’t wait to see it again! The ending was so unexpected and I loved it so much, I am sure you all will love it! Life in plastic, in fact, is fantastic!

After seeing this I understand why Mattel was curating the publicity so much. This is deceptive marketing plan and simple.
This is not a good movie; it is mean spirited, down putting, and reductive. Which is sad, as the toy was always up lifting and inclusive.

The character they want you to see as the villain; if you flipped the gender, the character would be held up by some people as a held back hero. And the message at the end... yeah not a great message, and a hero that thinks this solution is good isnt a hero just another villain; an eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind.

I have never asked for my money back from a movie but I did this time. And the look in the eyes of the kid behind the counter I think I wont be the only one. Bc of the marketing it will do good this weekend but drop like lead brick.

With Ghostbusters 2016 and now this, anything with Kate Mckinnon is now a automatic no see movie for me.

Es buena.
Es una comedia divertida aun que con fallos en la narrativa. Pudó ser mejor.

Barbie is above-average confection entertainment, and if it freaks you out so badly, seek professional help.

First of all, this is a highly completed work, the actors are faithful to the characters, and the rhythm completely obeys the expression. In this regard, its neat plot is far better than most Hollywood movies in recent years.

However, the content expression of the film still gives people a feeling of disconnection, although not strong, but still palpable, mainly because there is a logical gap that is difficult to bridge between the absurd form of asking questions and the superficial preaching of solving them.

In the end, the awakening and self-persuasion of the classic Barbie, to put it bluntly, is to restore the "Paradise" and regain those positions, rather than essentially rebuilding the understanding and cognition of gender and identity. On the contrary, it is the realistic and weathered mother who expresses the most sincere "ideal of being an ordinary person". I feel like this could have been done better.

As for the philosophical questioning of the meaning of human beings that appears at the end of the film, instead of finding it abrupt, I think it is just right. After nearly 120 minutes of color shock and gender questioning, everyone should understand: the world should be better, but women are not the only ones who need to strive for perfection.

Everything a feminist could wish for and it's fun and entertaining.
And no "feminist" is not a slur and yes patriarchy exists for no good reason and must be put to an end.
Deal with it.
