I really commend director James Cameron and producer Robert Rodriguez for creating a world so futuristic, so colorful, so dangerous and so tech-based that even our era of human species still has yet to create that world. Rosa Salazar does an excellent job giving Alita a story of sadness, naĆÆvetĆ©, and understanding who she was meant to be. Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly and Mahershala Ali also do good jobs with their performances as well. Jackie Earle Haley and Ed Skrein make the best they can as the cliched henchman and pirates, but, there are worse things than that may have made me roll my eyes so I don’t mind. The Visual Effects and set design are also cool and detailed as only James Cameron and WETA could make it. My only nitpick is that it left me wanting more, which is good and bad at the same time. I really hope China and Japan help save this movie and make it the success it should be so Disney can have two new franchises from James Cameron with Avatar and Alita. So, yes, I say go see it, the film is worth your time, especially in a big loud IMAX 3D or Dolby format, and I really mean that.

My final rating for Alita: Battle Angel is a 9/10. Or 4.5 stars out of 5. āļøāļøāļøāļø 1/2.

This is definitely a must-see film of the year, and if you get a chance to watch it, watch it on the biggest screen you can find. If you don't watch this fantastic cyberpunk, action-packed movie, then you're missing out big time.

Seeing Alita: Battle Angel sparked an ecstatic sense of hope that finally, moviemaking have caught up, and have done justice to the untapped potential of the expansive and immersive universe which could only could have been experienced through manga and anime from 28 years ago. The core of being young, the simple emotions of unconditional love, innocence lost and idealism thrashed against an invredible contrast to violent and evil gore. You can see that Alita: Battle Angel was created with love, compressing a much longer source content in multiple tankoubons, while managing to retain the majority of visual, emotional and immersive elements of the original work. Even if compressing the movie sacrificed some plotline material, I think the resulting work overall still manages to retain and even improve the original canon, which I'm sure those who have read the original series will appreciate fully. I hope that this will actually even bring a lot of viewers to the original manga, which is not constricted by a pg13 rating. Overall, one of the best imax experience I've had in years, thanks to Cameron, Rodriguez, Kishiro and all of the team that created the movie, congrats on creating a stellar example of how a movie should be made. Lets get out of the way the silliness and absurd-ism that the film basks in, as this is to be expected of a manga adaptation that stays true to it's source material. This seems for many to be the film's big critique, while for others it is an aspect of it's unique identity. If you are not familiar with manga and anime, and are are a self professed snob at the theaters, this may not be the film for you. For everyone else, they seem to be unanimously praising it as a flawed but fun and engrossing film. I have to agree. Come ready to watch with your brain turned off and your eyes wide open, while realizing that this is essentially an anime come to life. With all that accounted for, I think you will enjoy the ride as I did. Expand

Co-writers James Cameron, Laeta Kalogridis, and Robert Rodriguez have interpreted an excellent manga into a live-action anime of the highest calibre. The SJW crowd seems to think that a "strong" female character has to be strong in the literal sense of the word. James Cameron has been writing strong female characters for 30 years now. They aren't strong because of their literal physical attributes or "powers" but in their ability to overcome adversity. Alita is yet another example of a character that is strong (of whatever gender) because she exhibits the true paradigm of a hero - the willingness to sacrifice her own life to protect the people she cares about and/or further the execution of a mission bigger than herself. The action scenes are well done, and there are some impressive visuals, there are nuances to the story which are executed well overall even with some of the early stumbling blocks and the underdeveloped relationship between Alita and Hugo. I get the sense that initial drafts had more time spent on developing the characters and their relationships, but much of it ended up cut to make time for the extended action and flashback scenes because things coalesce rather well by the end. I saw this with three friends who had no experience with anime, much less the original Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita material and they all enjoyed it very much. It's not as deep or philosophical as the source material allows for, but it redirects that energy elsewhere to the benefit of the movie as a whole.

Just as an aside, I was curious what the critics who were unimpressed with Alita's acting and narrative thought of other movies, and as I found more and more 90+'s and a couple 100's given to The Last Jedi, I started to feel a little better.

The sets look like actually things from a dystopian future. The lighting in each scene, especially the night time shots is beautiful to look at. Now the story felt like three completely different films that was mixed into one two hour and two-minute film. From the first scene to the last it never felt like the same film and this at sometimes caused the film to halt a stop. Sometimes the story would magically connect to the main story but most of the time it was three different stories that didn’t connect at all. You can easily tell that all the actors and actresses were giving it their all but some of them just ended up not working for me. This could be because of poor casting or they just didn’t try as hard in some scenes. One person who didn’t work for me was Keean Johnson, who plays Hugo. I just didn’t really care for him but I will give him a break seeing how he has only been in two other things. This film is obviously heavily relied on special effects so they need to look good and they did in certain scenes and moments but in others, I cringed obvious it was. Also, this is just me being me but Alita’s eyes scared me in a majority of the film. The pacing in this film felt really slow but I’m just going to blame it on the film that doesn’t know what it wants to be. The music in this, which is composed by Junkie XL, is great and I can easily see myself listening to it while I’m doing homework. This film is classified as a romance on IMDB and really I think if they cut the main relationship it wouldn’t harm the film in any way. There are plot twists in this film and you can easily see them coming from a mile away and I only say that because the characters drop so many hints about it that once it’s revealed your like yeah I know. The writing in this film is dull and really there is nothing to it. A lot of it is just cliched writing at it’s finest. The movie ends really abruptly and with a hint to a possible sequel idea. Finally, the action in this film has been done so many times that you can watch any action film and see some similar things in it. There was probably only one fight scene that stuck out to me as being really well done and original. But other than that all of them are just copycat scenes at best. In the end, Hollywood should learn to stop making movies off of mangas and anime, in general, you are curious or want to see a beautiful looking film this is for you. If not then just skip this. It is very respectful of the source material and keeps a brisk pace without getting the audience lost. It makes you care about the characters involved and what they have to go through, as well as the suspense of just what Dr. Ido may be doing at night when there is a killer on the loose.

Alita is very well done and very likeable. People can connect with her, despite the cliche use of amnesia. And while there are certainly changes from the original Manga, they do not hurt the film in any way. This movie can stand on its own merits and does so spectacularly.

While people may be a bit put off by Alita's large cartoonish eyes, they do not detract from the film nor are much of a distraction. It's simply another part of her being a cyborg. And there's plenty of crazy cyborgs running around. This is a must-see movie and I would absolutely love to see a sequel.

As a fan of Gunnm, the manga, I was really worried about this adaptation... Indeed, I have a huge respect for Gally/ Alita, supposed to be an unapologetic, badass, and a little bit naive heroin (she tries too much to be Human!). And I must admit Robert / James Cameron did an AMAZING adaptation with this. It's not "perfect" (does perfection even exist...?), but Alita Battle Angel is a movie that non-fans can understand and enjoy as well as the fans. Why ? Because they respected the universe of the original, it's long enough to describe the story and it permits Alita to grow in front of our eyes. I had some problems connecting with Yugo (no background story !) but it wasn't huge, and it was to put the spotlight on Alita/ Ido. The world was beautifully made, but felt a bit "lighter", maybe to please a more "mainstream" audience. Blue blood for cyborgs was a good idea ! But don't worry: there still is blood and some hard scenes (or suggested, at least). This movie made Gally even more human than in the manga, I really felt like it was HER. The actress s choice was perfect. The Eyes ? Not as disturbing as everyone was saying...

The relationship between Yugo and Alita was a little cheesy, but hey, don't you ever been a teenager ? It participated in her "humanisation" I would say. The battles were as good as in the manga, with amazing effects (I had to contain myself not to turn crazy everytime Alita would beat the f* out of those pretentious cyborgs!) and not only myself, but everyone was stunned during those moments. I was expecting more battles and a darker aspect of the city but that's it !
I've seen the movie 3 times and I enjoyed every minutes. This movie is the rebirth of a heroin, who, I felt, has always earned to be known by the whole world. For more philosophy, you have to wait for a sequel because Alita is barely remembering her past in the first mangas, and in this movie. The bad reception is totally undeserved. There are plenty of scenes questioning her identity, her more human side, but maybe critics weren't getting it, huh ?

To sum up, Alita is a must-watch if you like SF, Battles, and STORIES. There's also a philosophical question surrounding cyborgs, identity (for those who pay attention), and a strong female lead. Will Alita become the next badass heroin of our decade ? I HOPE SO. (Captain Marvel is probably shaking in her costume. And so is Lara Croft !)

I'm waiting for the next movie - a french fan.

However, this movie is not a 40-50 either, so I'm giving it a 10 to even the score. This movie it's a solid 7-8. Why? It's a blockbuster with soul, with a strong female protagonist you can actually empathize with, it's human, it's weak, it's young, and it's also badass. It's also a movie that tries, it doesn't follow the Marvel formula, it doesn't go the easy way, it tries something different. It's PG-13 but it's violent, it's a popcorn film but it has deep themes behind it (I'd go as far as saying Alita it's the only blockbuster movie that transgender people may feel identified with). It's a pretty great manga adaptation, capturing the essence of the manga, and giving plenty of details and reference for the true fans. The worldbuilding in this is fantastic, the action is visceral. Just like Alita, the film offers you its heart, it's all or nothing with it, but unfortunately, people seem to stomp on it, probably by the same people than then write complains about how Hollywood only makes Remakes, Reboots and Live actions of old animated films. Well, may be that's because each time someone tries something different instead of embracing it and giving it a chance, you discard it and you make fun of it. This movie was terribly judged with double standards. Watch it, it's a fun ride. Expand

The fight scenes are excellent, visually spectacular without being over the top. The characters are a bit simplistic but for the most part sincerely depicted. The story follows the plot of the anime movie faithfully while adding more details that flesh out the world and Alita as a character. It explains how her abilities work and why she is able to do things other cyborgs can't. Most aspects of the world are justified, although the society and politics seem overly simplistic and small in scale. There were multiple areas I thought the movie could be better, I found very few aspects out right bad. Sure, there is some cheesy dialog but no more than the average Marvel movie. Some of characters were over the top and one dimensional but considering how much the story had to introduce, it did a good job of making the plot clear while fleshing out the world in an interesting way. I have read complaints that the movie is a setup for a sequel, I liked that, I would rather have them lay the ground work for something bigger than just make it a one off that explains everything in an overly simplistic way. The movie left me wanting more, better that than to leave the audience with a basic yet conclusive ending. Most of the best series leave you wanting more because they hint at bigger events, that's a sign they are building on something substantial and have planned ahead. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, the Matrix, etc. Most good series spend a lot of time introducing ideas that aren't explained by the end of the first entry. A sequel is almost never a guarantee, it certainly wasn't for the original Star Wars but including hints of a bigger world made it a better movie. We may never get a sequel to ALITA but at least this movie made me want one and provided enough ideas to justify one. While I found the tone of the story a little bit too light hearted, it somewhat made sense considering Alita's personal experience. The world is shown from the perspective of someone who is new to it and hasn't had to face the hardships of it until near the end. She sees things with a fresh sense of wonder and naivety rather than horror and apprehension. That was fine but I feel it shouldn't have been the case for the side characters. It would have been more interesting if they contrasted Alita's naive optimism with a the cynicism of her peers who have really had to struggle to get by in the harsh reality of Iron city. It is a world where body harvesting, poverty and mutilation are commonplace, it would be a very scary place for most of the citizens, yet the story never gives a sense of that desperation. Sure Yugo and his gang represent the grey area of society but they came across as far too idealistic rather than desperate. It would have been nice to see Alita's idealism challenged by other characters who don't have the advantage of being as powerful as she is.

The world building was pretty good but I did have some complaints. While Iron City is supposed to be massive it never seems bigger than a few square blocks. Outside of the skyline and wide angle shots showing a sprawling city everything shown seems limited in scope and the amount of control held by just a few sources seems way too dominant. There isn't a sense of a complex social/political systems, or even rival gangs and people of disconnected interests competing for advancement. It seems more like a high school sized society with a one dimensional hierarchy. I understand that it is hard to build complexity in the span of one movie but I think others movies have done a far better job of implying that kind of depth.

Overall I would say that Alita is a fun, visually spectacular movie with enough substance to make it worthy of a sequel. On the negative side it lacks depth, has some cheesy dialogue, cliches and side characters that lack believe-ability. It has short comings but it gets enough of the big things right to make it worth watching and well above average.

This doesn't ruin the ending but on reflection, you are left knowing you paid for a full movie but got shortchanged. It suffers from the same problem as "John Carter", they fell in love with the original story. They spent so much time on making the eyes perfect and the machinery glittery but the lighting didn't feel real. Sort of like they hired so many modelers they couldn't afford to hire enough lighters to get it right. See this is the problem when I start thinking more about it, I could see why there are low reviews. It's filled with quite a few sci-fi cliches, subpar acting, dialogue, and character effects, and a story that felt neither very inspired nor all that extraordinary like the big budget and heavy advertising on this film would have you believe. Granted, the production design and background effects looked pretty great, but that's really the only pro I can think of for this film. Seriously though, the effects of the non-human characters and the big eyes on Alita just looked weird and ridiculous to me. Overall, mediocre and weird character effects, an uninspired story with clumsy dialogue, etc plenty of sci-fi cliches and tropes borrowed from many other sci-fi films, and you have what I consider to be an ambitious yet ultimately pretty corny and inferior sci-fi romp. His actual face looks more like Makaku, why'd they make him into a generic russian thug? tearstearstears), and making iron city look somewhat pleasant to live in, I was surprised by how accurately they translated the manga into this film. It felt like I was watching a big budget anime, as opposed to the more commonly horrible, cringy anime adaptations that often happen. Whereas I never want to see another Johansson GITS, I would love for Alita to do well enough to continue her story in a couple more films, as long as they keep staying true to the story's origins. If I weren't such a fan of the original books I might not have been as taken by this film, but they did good, and I'm grateful for the hard work and time and attention to detail. Of course, Salazar's Alita and Waltz' Ido are the shining lights here, besides the amazing effects and cyborg designs and fun action sequences. Worth seeing on the big screen. Expand

This may be Robert Rodriguez's most successful and expensive film ever. However this may be the biggest failure of James Cameron's screenwriting career.
It's like James took everything he liked about the manga and scrambled it like eggs. Some narrative plot lines are now completely deviating from it's source material, but overall I thought it was just meh. I guess the CGI was very impressive, but every time Alita smiled I couldn't help but laugh.

I actually went back and reread the first volume of the manga after seeing the movie, and I actually think the movie did a better job with the story than the source material. In my opinion, the movie delves deeper in the plot and shows a much bigger world, more quickly, than the original books. My wife does not like these kind of movies-s I fi, superhero, etc. However, during the movie she was leaning over and asking questions about characters by name... If this film engaged my anti-Marvel, Star Wars wife then I believe I found a winner. I really hope this film does well and that we get a sequel. Bonus Round: I love that this film had a strong female hero while simultaneously not shoving SJW quasi social philosophy down the audience’s throat. As far as how the critics are rating it, I don't often agree with them and this is no exception. I don't use a checklist to decide if a movie is good or not. I would much rather decide for myself.

I predicted good effects, this is James Cameron after all, but what I didn't expect were a good story and powerful acting. In the Manga-born world Salem, which is the sky city that everyone aspires to get to after the Fall, pulls you in in a way reminiscent of Star Wars. The casting is perfect and the tech has improved so much that they've avoided the creepy effect entirely, sometimes called the uncanny valley. The CGI tech is both amazing and transparent - you forget that you're watching a processed human within the first few minutes upon her introduction. This is an origin story so has a lot of ground to cover, but does a great job of building what I hope is the first installment of a fresh, original franchise on the big screen. See it today on the biggest screen in your town! Expand

A decent story. the pace of story telling is a bit rushed because it has enough plot for multiple movies.
It's an adoption from a 30 year-old Japanese Manga which is considered one of the greatest sci-fi / cyberpunk story.
I haven't read the source material, but I still enjoy the movie a lot.

I've done something I never did before: watch a movie 3 times, and I rarely watch a movie twice.
Gosh, if someone ask me to join his/her trip to this movie, I would still go for my 4th time.

This is how much I like it.

A female lead who is complex and interesting. Released less than a month before Captain Marvel

It's not a shock critics are desperately tearing it down.

It's funny, any criticism of Captain Marvel is already being labelled as sexist, so to take a page out of the media's playbook I'm going to just assume that the reason critics hated Alita is because the female lead under the CGI that brings a manga character to life is hispanic.

And apparently they hate female leads and are sexist too.

Hey, they made the rules, not me.

All joking aside the film was fantastic. Alita is a complex character and isn't the cookie-cutter heroine that most film studios shove down our throats today (like Rey from the Disney Star Wars movies). The story is compelling and you want to root for Alita. We keep hearing people act like there have never been good female leads in cinema before in an attempt to overpraise Rey and Captain Marvel but the fact is there have been some amazing ones in the past. And James Cameron gave us one of them in Sarah Conner. And now he and Robert Rodriguez has given us another in Alita.

The action is fantastic. The effects are incredible. The way they can blend a CGI character with real people and not make it jarring is astounding. The budget was well-used. I think Alita could be the stepping stone to how future anime/manga live-action adaptations can be done. The film is fantastic and well worth the price of the ticket. And you don't feel like Alita is shoved down your throat like Rey was in Star Wars. And Alita is not a character who is written where her gender is her entire character (you know, like Rey). Alita is a great character who happens to be female. Other movies that plan to have female leads need to take notes, because this is how Rey could have been written where her gender just happens to be part of who she is vs her entire character.

Having read the manga I can say that this is a worthy adaptation, and it was refreshing. Since the last couple of times Hollywood tried to adapt anime/manga it went over like a lead balloon and you could tell the people making it had no love for the source material, meanwhile you can tell that the love for the source material is what was the driving force behind this movie being made in the first place.

It has its flaws (which doesn’t?), but for sure it is not 5/10 as critics would like you to believe. I’ve seen it two times already and the pacing is perfect - action and slower scenes are nicely mixed throughout the whole movie, so it doesn’t overwhelm nor bore you. The story is sometimes a little rushed, but it bothered me only the first time I was watching the movie, so most likely it was due to being hyper-hyped by the superb trailers ;-).
The IMAX presentation is perfect and fighting scenes are the best of the best. I really hope this movie turns into a franchise, because - apart from expected sequel - possibilities for games, toys and tie-ins are endless here...

The worst part of this is that the extreme contrast in quality within the movie shows that it could have been as amazing as some are claiming. There is a rumor that a auto-script writing program was actually used for parts of this, and I would not be surprised if that is true. When the largest talking point is a single line that people claim nearly made them physically sick, you know Cameron really needs to work on accepting feedback during production. Expand

It is AMAZING and the best ANIME LIVE ACTION movie by far. This movie is full of heart, care and love by their creators and once again James Cameron shows that to make good and strong female characters you don't need SJW and FEMINIST politics. The story is really well done and feels exactly like a old school steam punk anime should. It build this amazing world slowly and with confidence to capture your curiosity. And my curiosity was grabbed in a way i can barely hold on to see a sequel. The movie sets up a sequel well but the ending can work even if a sequel does not get green light, but lets fight to get that sequel as amazing movies like this deserve it. The CGI is probably the best i have seen in a long time, maybe even better than Avatar. The trailers put me in a worried places because of does eyes, but it works, strangely it works and makes it feel more like the anime it is trying to portray. Action is top notch, well choreographed and intense. The soundtrack complements really well the vibe. Actores we brilliant, all of them even if some i would like to have seen more of like 1 of the vilains that i will not spoil. Now for what people criticize more, the love story. Some people like AngryJoe said it ruins the movie, all i can say is they are trying to sound smarter then they are. The love story works for this girl that is innocent with no memory and is learning all this feelings she knows nothing about, it brings a slow character development where she evolves by learning with the hits. Is not perfect but it is well executed enough to feel believable. This movie is far better than the movies this Critics love, Better than the Last Jedi, Better than Black Panther, and i am sure it will be far better than the upcoming Captain Marvel. Don't miss out on this masterpiece, because if it is successful i see a new dawn for anime live action adaptations and i hope James Cameron can take this type of work to other amazing anime like Trigun, Baccano, Evangelion, and so many others. We can dream. Expand

This movie was great, everything you see on screen is just like the source material, it is very respectful of the Gunnm franchise and make it very realistic.

I saw lot of people complain about the eyes but in my point of view, the eyes of Alita aren't big cause it make them more manga-like. They're big cause in the manga Alita is said to be different from everyone, her physical appareance is unusual and it is retranscribed by the eyes in the movie.

As for the story, I think it's good. It follows the manga and ends where the first part of the manga ends. And for those who says "The movie has sequel confirm end to please the fan, blablabla" well the manga is cut into three parts: Gunnm (the movie is based on this part, and it has 9 volumes), Gunnm Last Order (which has 19 volumes) and Gunnm Mars Chronicles (which has 6 volumes). So yes, the end looks like a sequel bait but it's just follow the first part and ends like it does in the manga so just stop talking nonsense.

For me, it is the first faithful adaptation of a manga into a movie and when I look behind and see crap like Dragon Ball Evolution or Death Note well I'm glad this movie exist.

I wonder what critics expect from each new movie. Because they hate everything I just hope there will be a sequel because people love this movie and no most of them aren't 13 years old.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the GUNNM fans: trailer nitpicking solved; everything's there, faithful adaptation. OVA Chiren gets a better backstory!
For the Hollywoods: This is an adaptation in its truest sense, since books were first adapted to film; Alita is an abbreviation of only a portion of GUNNM, timeline elements from the source material have been stretched in order for the first movie to introduce the viewers to Motorball, for example- something that is going to be important in the Second chapter of what is an already existing epic, almost three decades old.
I thought this film was excellent. The directorial choice to portray Iron City as colorful, multicultural and bustling during the day is intentional; it expresses Alita's new and exciting world view.. before it's taken down that dark back alley.
Can't wait to see Alita vs. Jashugan.

Fight scenes are gloriously over the top as well. No shaky camera or excessive cuts when it comes to fights in Alita: Battle Angel. I always knew what was happening.

The story of Alita: Battle Angel isn't perfect, and does contain a few clichƩs, but that doesn't hold a movie like this one back. I was too busy leaning forward in my chair with my jaw dropped to put on my critic monocle. Don't listen to the critics for this one. Do yourself a favor and see this movie. It's simply awesome - that's all there is to say.

Unlike some CGI heavy films, Alita knows when to end a scene and move on. The romance is cringe worthy and the weakest link in the film but, in the end, worked as a display of Alita's character. Lead actress is fantastically expressive - tons of nuance - and perfectly rendered - no hint of uncanny valley despite the large cyborg eyes.

It's a low bar but probably the second best live action adaption of an anime that I've seen, after the Initial D movie.

Robert Rodriguez who already knows how to bring to life a comic like we saw with Sin City brings a lesson to the Hollywood industry and gives hope that this is the path to go. By the way, James Cameron who respect the original work did a perfect screenplay. The outstanding cast includes big stars Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connely, Mahershala Ali, and the hipnotic Rosa Salazar. Special mention that the CGI effects are so well done that you would not realize what is real or not, especially the big eyes of the protagonist. I get out of the IMAX cinema hyper excited waiting for a continuation, so I create an account to help make justice for the bad critics it didn“t deserve. Battle Angel is the best movie in a long time and a fresh air in the genre. Welcome Alita! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Could the acting have been better? Yes, absolutely. Definitely actually. In fact I'd say there were a few moments where I couldn't help but cringe a little on the inside from dialogue alone.

Is the spectacle enough to make up for it? Well yes. It's the nicest window dressing you can have in a film about violent cyborgs beating the cogs out of each other if not getting ripped apart.

Meanwhile though, there are a bunch of nitpicks those that have read the manga will or should moo about. The antagonist is one of them, the real antagonist, not the one(s) you see in the trailers. The sword you see in those trailers too will be something I'm surprised isn't being mooed about a lot more often then it should, long story short in the source material it was a sword made in the scrapyard and not the macguffin it becomes in the film. All told there's at least two more characters they make reference to in the film that have been changed or effectively demoted as characters, as people to help the titular Battle Angel grow, and there may be more nitpicks still that others have likely torn apart like so many angry chickens doing the samba in the snow no I don't know where this metaphor came from shush!

But the real question should always be, do they nail the title character's personality correctly? And to that I must grin slightly and nod. Yes, Salazar's portrayal of Alita could be better, even inevitably end up being saved by action set pieces, spectacular feats of mechanical martial arts, and very violent roller derby. But as a person, fans of the manga should ask; who was Alita? She was and is the Battle Angel, the one who stood above the filth in the scrap pile city, tried to preserve what little good remained in it. She was a young, innocent girl and an ancient warrior with combat knowledge that can make short work of nigh any mechanical thug she meets, that can still love, still feel so fragile despite having a body of hard steel.

That alone is why I didn't vote any lower. Cameron and Rodriguez had her story down to a T. And in the end that's the most important thing...er...to me at least.

...I still don't like what they did with Nova's character though. Seriously. From eccentric mad scientist who's villainy stems from enthusiastic research to pure distilled cold, maniacal villain in one fell swoop. And what was up with sidelining Jashugan to a side character that gets roughly one to two lines? The Motorball champion, the guiding light to Alita's growth in the third major arc of the manga is suddenly just wink wink nudge nudge reference material.

By and by, did any of you who watched the film take note of the eyes in Alita's flashbacks? Not just her's, wink wink nudge nudge

It is a really gripping story. Watching Alita experience things for the first time is a delight, the reactions don't feel forced and really come off as someone who experiences something for the very first time. Watching her relationship with dr. Ido grow and develop is also a beautiful thing to watch and also feels very real. This counts for the romance parts as well, it never feels forced, feels real and best of all it's never cringe inducing. In fact the romance scenes are very well done and have really sweet and endearing moments. Alita is clearly very powerful yet she doesn't feel overpowered, having difficulty in certain fights. Can't go into this further without spoiling so I'll just say that the fight scenes are amazing.

The one thing that keeps me from giving it a full 10 are some decisions made at the end that didn't make a lot of sense to me.

---Too long did not read-------

It's definitely worth a watch and if you're a fan of sci-fi you will definitely like this movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't know what movie the critics were watching i can't believe how poorly this movie has been received. Personally this movie for me is a masterpiece visually outstanding they really created a vast imaginative world for this movie. In addition it is a faithful recreation not only of the comics but the manga as well for the most part, for some reason they thought they needed a romantic relationship. I have a sense of relief after years of failed live action manga movies they have finally produced something on par with the cartoon. just a tip watch in 3d it is worth the extra money to see it in this format.
