I love this movie. Here is my review on it

The year is 2563. 300 years after “The Fall” (big war), Iron City is left decimated in a dystopian like society when Alita was found at a scrap pile in a futuristic junk yard. When recovered and put back together with a new cyborg body by Dr. Dyson, she doesn’t remember anything of her past nor recognizes the current world. As the story progresses she finds clues to her identity, past life, where she came from, and what she was born to do. Alita is the advanced teenage cyborg solider who finds her identity and purpose in life through flash backs of her past. She builds a beautiful father-and-daughter relationship with Dr. Dyson and builds a romantic relationship with her boyfriend Hugo. She’s strong and courageous with the love and compassion of a young girl and a beating heart of a warrior. I rooted and cared so much for her throughout the whole movie.

CGI and visuals is breathtaking. Of course they used a lot of actual sets as well throughout the movie. These are the same people that made Avatar with James Cameron so you know it’s going to look great. Alita’s eyes are so very life like. They truly captured the spirit and emotion of Rosa Salazar into Alita with all of the different sensors she wore. Your conscious mind will always be accepting Alita as a human and not a CGI person.

This movie is a true fun and entertaining underdog story with, action, adventure, romance, mystery, and with lots of heart. I love this movie

Rewatchable?: YES!
Would I go to theaters again to see it?: YES!
Was I wanting more when the credits start rolling?: YES!
Forgettable Movie?: NO!
My Rating: 9 out of 10- Had some flaws so it doesn’t get a 10.

The story is thrilling, touching, and unpredictable. The characters are memorable and get you invested in the story, especially Alita, who has the potential to become a classic, iconic hero. This movie completely blew me away. I had expected a mediocre experience but was treated with a Sci-fi extravaganza of story and effects, and the most cute little girl, who happen to be a Hunter Killer. Badass hero! Easily a 9 on my scale.

We believe that even with disfalks, as a more representative villain and (despite being totally fantasy) events without many purposes, new paths can be discovered and explored by the upcoming films of the series. The film develops in a very naive way, exhausting and without much sense, pushing away the interest of criticism. It already has a great history and remarkable visuals, only lacks a better conjuncture. 7.0/10 Expand

I have absolutely no idea why some critics are rating it badly. The story is wonderful, and alludes to a deeper mythology, Alita herself is wonderfully conceptualized, executed, and portrayed, and the fight scenes are absolutely gob-smacking delicious. The art direction is stupendous and the movie is both technologically impeccable and full of heart.

Apparently, some critics have an issue with the fact that the movie serves as an introduction to Alita and doesn't conclude the story but rather acts as a first chapter, but what the hell do they expect? The manga went on for a lot more than the first few issues that the movie covers, and if they wanted everything compressed into one movie, then they're impatient and unappreciative.

Watch the thing.

It's beautiful.

I felt very welcome in the world that the movie created. Nothing seems forced and you just accept the way that the people in this world mind their business. The acting is very well done but viewers have to accept that all the characters are merely tools helping to build Alita's character. There's a bit of everything. The typical post-apocalyptic dumpster world. The nice world above, which nobody knows much about. The post-apocalyptic sport. The post-apocalpytic police and some bounty hunters. It's not a surprising movie but it worked very well for me. And damn, it looks good. When Alita does, what she does best, fight, it's pure entertainment. I highly recommend watching this movie. Don't expect a dystopian masterpiece with deep thoughts about life and you will not be disappointed. Expand

I felt quite inspired by this passion of united Twitter users to guarantee everyone who worked hard in the film industry gets their glorious well-earned moment. As a bonus, it’s proven why Alita: Battle Angel carries no rhythmic impact on filmmakers like that of the 91st Annual Academy Award winners.

We all face decisions similar to what the Academy had to make, some for better, some for worse. Take the blue pill, and you force four categories into commercial break to shorten the show. Take the red pill, and you see equal, nondiscretionary treatment. Which sounds best? Seeing how Alita makes zero character development throughout her adventure, I guess that means she chose the blue pill, preferring what is convenient to gain a wider audience instead of what is best for everybody. Did her plan work though? Let’s take a look…

Alita lives in an Iron City that apparently lacks wealth, which isn’t easy to conclude since this high-tech India-esque area practically resembles a paradise for any sci-fi lover. Right next to Iron City rests a massive junkyard where the scraps of that sky city wind up at the end of the day. That is where Iron City obtains its supplies, and ultimately where a Doctor Frankenstein rip-off found his anime-eyed creation’s scattered parts. This means there’s no real ground to work off of, particularly when struggling to sound heartbroken through pathetic sad scenes with the atrocious actor playing her cheap boyfriend. That actor’s slothful eyes generate just one negative factor as co-writers James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez resort to stupid expository details in their worldbuilding, such as cyborg blood being turquoise for some reason other than to look cool.

As for the bigger actors, Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglourious Basterds) probably isn’t aware he’s co-leading a futile promotion of Marxism reliant on a self-righteous “chosen one” plot trope. Hence, he must’ve figured, “Why bother trying? The sound editors will improve my voice anyway!” Yes, Waltz’s pathetic accent manages to be weaker than the normalized human-robot love that throws in insincere dialogue such as, “You are the most human person that I have ever met.” (facepalm)

The same issue of acting goes to Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Requiem for a Dream). Here, she does nothing but insult the dedicated actors, actresses, supporting actors, and supporting actresses of Hollywood with her lazy demonic eyes and overly dramatic, shallow laughter from a voice deprived of security.

Now, take a minute to observe the entire Star Wars series before Disney bought them: It was nowhere near perfect (in fact, the original trilogy is just okay), but still attempted decency with its audience… until the prequels attacked. Yes, it’s at least acceptable in the visuals big and small, as the Battle Angel’s almost square jet-black hair matches the Plutocratic sky city; just don’t count on there being any memorability from Alita, even if the cinematic quality leans closer toward the Star Wars originals than the prequels.

Although the setup deserves some praise for sure, as does some awesome fight choreography to appropriately set the numerous emotional roller coaster peaks in a way that allows them all to complement each other. After Alita first comes back to life, without any surviving memories, she disdainfully eats an orange, peel and all, as if it were an apple, but ends up liking the fruit once peeled, and later loves chocolate even more; these moments of revelation prove to be effective in raising your spirits. To contrast that orange color reflected onto the heat-tinted city, she wears a gentle shirt of delicious damson that makes her look alienated on the streets full of roller bladers. It leaves to little surprise why Alita connects easily with a dog, a bond that later breaks your heart.

Too bad though that Alita: Battle Angel remains at the end of the day another mere piece of white noise forgotten amongst the genuinely terrific motion pictures, those that social media users believe are worth speaking up to the Academy about, those that prove unity through a common passion. There’s nothing of significance this movie will do to the personal legacies on Robert Rodriguez or James Cameron beyond what they did in the past, it’s just filler to make time and money for greater projects… such as those numerous Avatar sequels. While we can allow the cinema arts to grow year after year, sadly not every movie can be saved from mediocrity.

I saw this movie with a friend in 3D, and I was absolutely impressed. The characters, aside from Hugo, were great and the story progressed well. The CGI was fantastic and Alita was or is a lovable character. I'm extremely excited and hope they make another film, a 2nd part. Absolutely one of the best films this year so far and if it had been in 2018, I'd say it was the best film of 2018 riding along with Spider-man Into the Spider verse and Marvel's Infinity War. The critic reviews whom left negative reviews lead me to believe they are all a bunch of paid liars promoting or demoting something as their job rather than how they truly felt. It is rather obvious with the user score being what it is. Expand

You'd be right to criticise it for only telling the one story that it does in this otherwise great opener of what could become an epic trilogy or series. But the visuals, the pacing, the design and the action are all on point and if you are coming to the theatre for some solid action entertainment with heart, Alita doesn't disappoint. If you're coming for the braininess of the Matrix or the grit of Sin City, look elsewhere - perhaps a sequel? Expand

Originally written and almost directed by the king of the box office, James Cameron, has accomplished something that no other filmmaker has successfully took on which is making a great anime live action film that actually works quite well with the anime source material. Sometimes, the revised script and direction by El Mariachi/Machete/Sin City/’s Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron’s longtime partner Laeta Kalogridis hits and misses the important cues when it comes to hitting the right notes of the film, but the whole overall feel of this movie did justice on balancing the action and visual intensity just right. And I am pleased to report that Rosa Salazar kicks major cyborg ass as Alita. Did Alita: Battle Angel broke the live action anime film adaptation curse? Yes, if I were you, go ahead and experience this visual feast. Expand

I'm trying to understand why the critics didn't like this one. It had amazing visuals, good plot, good story, and a power female lead. Here are my guesses to why they didn't like it because I don't really get their reviews:
1) They want their heroes to look attractive and not weird 2) They want more humor in their action movies
3) They want a happy ending
4) They can't understand the motivations of the characters
5) They don't enjoy sci-fi action on it's own and require the rest of the content to carry itself
6) Maybe they are anti-violence. This movie was a very violent PG-13

Excellent film adaptation that has heart and sets a new bar for visual effects and fight choreography. The original comic inspired Elysium, District 9 and many other films in the genre. Do yourself a favor and see it in 3D or at an IMAX theater.

* It's nice to see Gally, Vector and Ido in "flesh" and bone. Finally, I was not spoiled by Gally's eyes.
* The scenes of the Kansas Bar fight against Grewishka are really cool
* The choreographies of the Motorball have mouth.
* The film roughly takes over the OVAs plot.
* We feel the will to do well ...

CONS
* Some white washing: the names are Americanized, characters change ethnicity, etc ...
* We miss the soul of the Manga in its finest: the satire of society, violence, the quest for oneself, etc ...
* It's a teen movie. The whole film is based on Y (h) ugo and his love story like in a Beverly Hills episode.
* Nova, who is presented as the big bad guy but who is badly brought in.
* The motorball, false advertising with a discount cast and a **** stage release.
* Does the whole cast have Gally's phone? Because they call him all the time, even during a motorball match.
* the visual rendering is too smooth, we do not realize the dirty side, sticky. There is lens flare everywhere, androids are too rare and when they are there it is often a head inlay on a 3D person that shines everywhere. We lose the identity of the thing, it could be done by J. J. Abrams.
* Some characters are completely missed: Yugo, Zapan (the total fail), Jashugan or Nova.
* The story. If I was not a die hard fan of the manga, would I have liked this movie? I do not think, if we put aside the fan service, the story is flat, even silly, the visual is more than anything and it seems to follow yet another movie like Hunger game, labyrinth, etc. ..
In short, read the manga or watch the OVAs, it's better

The movie draws a lot more from the OVA than the manga, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The bad thing is the way the movie skips over things and mishmashes the story bits it does choose to use into an inconsistent mess. For example, why does Hugo *want* to go up to Zalem? The reasoning is explained and fleshed out in both the OVA and manga, but here there is none. Motorball gets shoehorned in as a plot device so that Alita can make money to get up to Zalem *after she says she can make enough money hunting bounties.* The only reason it's there was for visual effects, which is really all I'm seeing praise for in the other reviews.

I could go on for awhile about all the things in this movie that irritate me as a fan of the original work, but the inconsistencies in the characters and plot in the context of just the movie are the reason I'm giving this a low score. It was pretty, at least.

By the 2nd act I am reminded of the Spy Kids movies with George Lopez’s face slapped on a giant robot. Alita herself is beautifully realistic as a full CGI character, but sometimes the cyborg characters look a little “off” with their real faces pasted onto their CGI bodies. If you can get past this visual weirdness, the film is really entertaining.

The story is pretty straight forward but has a few major turns that surprise. The first act is really excellent as you learn, along with Alita, what she is and where she comes from. By the second act the movie goes full on action and is great fun. The third act is hit and miss... lets just say if a sequel never gets made, this movie doesn’t really have a good ending.

All in all, I’d sit through this 3 more times rather than sit through Aquaman. I’m just dumbfounded how many of these same critics loved that trash heap and give this movie 3 out of 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The 2 1/2 stars i gave are for the first half of the movie. AMAZING! World building was amazing, Alita was adorable and you wanted to watch her succeed. The villains are definitely interesting in the beginning. After a bar brawl, the night shift of the editing team walked in and the hack job that ensued was such a confusing lamentable mess that it just let me wondering about all the unanswered questions that were left hanging there. Also right after that, characters started immediately doing things you wouldn't see them doing. All the motivations that were created in the first half were gone, replaced by i don't even know what. Ending was NOT satisfying. I'll probably actually buy this movie, and then watch the first half. I want to know about this world that was created, but i just don't know if i trust the team behind it to properly carry out James Cameron's vision. Expand

If you're still having doubts, I'll help you out. If you like the genre of science fiction, or if you like anime, or if you like action, then, you HAVE to see this in the theatre. Even if you are new to these genres, this is still an objectively excellent film by the highest of standards. Instant classic, 10/10.

My final thoughts go to the filmmakers:

Make. A. Sequel. And if you DO make a sequel, let me just say, it had BETTER be just as DARK, VIOLENT, and MATURE as the first. Hell, you can make it DARKER and MORE VIOLENT, give it an R rating even. I loved the violence.

If you come out with a sequel that is less dark/violent/mature than the first, I'll be the first person to tear it apart. Don't pull a Pacific Rim Transformers Edition on me, and THANK YOU for making this beautiful, sexy, excellent movie.

Sure, it's stupid, silly, mindlessly violent at times, and almost exclusively cheap in an emotional sense. But, in fairness, was anyone expecting a product finer than that? I know I really wasn't. Flaws aside, though, it is still terrific to look at, with breathtaking production design, set pieces, and effects. Just don't expect much else beneath the surface, however. Expand

DON'TALITA is the new WONDER WOMAN. If you liked Wonder Woman movie, this is the next one with high-energy, feminine intensity, inetlligence and passion for using force to protect the weak and willing to use force to combat injustice. DON'T LISTEN TO THE PROFESSIONAL CRITICS. Alita was much better than the pro critics led me to believe. Many critics reviewed it like a Fast & Furious movie: multiple action set-pieces jammed together until time's up. ALITA HAS AN EXCEPTIONAL SCRIPT AND NUANCED PERFORMANCES. ALITA IS NOT A "BLOCKBUSTER." Rather it takes the genre of the ScarJo Ghost in the Shell (2017) and aims it towards audience identification with an impassioned female hero, trying to make the world a better place, as in Wonder Woman. This is Jim Cameron and Robert Rodriguez at their best. GO SEE THIS :)

PS: The next Wonder Woman-like movie is likely to be Captain Marvel. The women are taking over because their value system is the antidote for how men have made a mess of things. I believe movies like WW and Alita are part of women waking up to their healthy feminine power and how it can be used in politics and the real world.

The production and visual elements were outstanding, and Alita was a very charismatic character.
My only complaint is about Hugo, he starts ok but at some point start making no sense, he felt superficial at times, without the more deep motivations of the source material.

This film is set 300 years in a bleak future, but most people still dress like they're living in the 80s and still ride in cars with drivers! As for the plot: an abandoned cyborg with Manga eyes (Rosa Salazar) it brought back on line by a kindly Christoph Waltz. Turns out she's got super strength and fights with amazing skill. The clashes are directed with dizzying pace and inventive action by Robert Rodriguez. On the other hand, the dramatic interactions just lie there…dull and lifeless and it doesn't help that the narrative is so trite. Some choices were unjustified or unnecessary (the choice to make the title character entirely out of CGI still doesn't exactly resonate with me) and the sequences are just overproduced. The plotline offers nothing creative or unpredictable (I fell asleep for 20 minutes in the theater and caught up with the story just as well after I woke up), and the so-called "cliffhanger" at the end leaves no room for anticipation or suspense for a sequel. It has hearth, breathtaking action, good romance and stunning visual effects.

Alita is so sweet, brave and inspiring, and i'm in love with her. Her big eyes are not a problem - the manga itself says she has special eyes. And despite being a cyborg, Alita proves to be more human than many of us.

Rodriguez and Cameron have done the actual world of Gunnm (battle angel) some serious credit, giving Yukito Kishiro's 1990s vision of a post-apocalyptic shanty-city a much needed facelift. However, this is where the film begins to lose its way; some scenes are almost carbon copies from the source material and, like the source material, it stumbles and makes narrative jumps that seem to come from nowhere, particularly with respect to Alita's personality and how she ends up as a "hunter warrior". As a result, the combat becomes the glue that holds the story together, overcoming occasionally forced and wooden dialogue until it finally trips over itself in a forced sequel hook which features the worst "nooo!" scream since Hayden Christensen launched a thousand memes.

A must watch for fans of the original series that's better than the adaptations of Ghost in the Shell and Dragonball, but that's about the best that can be said of it.

To summarize Alita: Battle Angel simply and succinctly: This movie is totally amazeballs!

This may be the best looking film of the decade. It is truly an impressive world. It manages to duplicate the distinct look of the manga. This movie takes place in a futuristic dystopia, but it is kind of a fun lawless Wild West-type instead of the many dystopias today that take themselves too seriously. There's sort of an 80's pop sci-fi aesthetic to the whole thing. There are a lot of cyborgs in this and they're all so unique-looking. Alita's engraved porcelain-ish body is a particularly nice touch.

But what about the story? It is really well-balanced in both action and drama and light and dark. There are moments of wonder and human kindness in this, but also moments of darkness in a dog-eat-dog world.

This is an R-rated manga that was transformed into a PG-13 film. But considering that a lot of violence is between cyborgs, director Robert Rodriguez does a surprising job of making this a violent affair.

Though you never see her real face, Rosa Salazar's wonderful mocap performance makes it through for the computer-animated cyborg Alita. She effortlessly has the character switch from childlike innocence to a determined warrior. The movie made a lot of furor over the internet in its decision to give Alita big ol' anime eyes. The backlash after the first trailer was enought that Rodriguez had them look smaller. (Fun fact: the eyes actually weren't shrunk. The pupils were widened.) To be honest, the eyes never really necessary and they didn't really need to make Alita CG. However, I got used to the look real quick. (The CG is so good that she really feels like a person.) Alita is supposed to be different from everyone else, even other cyborgs, so being the only one with big eyes kinda helps cement this.

Christoph Waltz does a great job in a tenderr but world-wise role as the cyber-doctor who finds Alita and takes her in. He's been typecast in villain roles for far too long. The father-daughter relationship between the two, albeit a bit rushed, is a core of the film.

Rodriguez and fellow screenwriters James Cameron, yes that James Cameron, and Laeta Kalogridis tackle a certain number of chapters from the manga and really try to squish in every bit of content than maybe they needed to. Admittedly, this works pretty well for most of the film. Exposition is surprisingly natural here. However, the ending is a smidge rushed. It is an emotional one, but it could have been stronger and the need to tease a sequel, while producing a striking final scene, doesn't help either. There are two main cyborg villains in this and as much as I liked both of them, this could've been a smoother product if one of them was cut.

Despite my criticisms, I really love this movie. Highly reccomended.

I enjoyed the movie - it moved along and presented a very interesting new world - but I regret to find that it's all just an extended setup for a sequel (which will indeed never happen if this film doesn't make a lot more money)

Solid story, great action, and although the pacing is a little strange, the movie easily kept me riveted. The action is well made and feels like it really has stakes. One of the best action movies I've seen.

Finalmente uma ótima adaptação de material oriental. Apesar da protagonista artificialmente realizada, é um filme empolgante.

It is a great movie which constantly keeps you entertained and asking for more. Alita is a sweet heart, and the romantic switcharoo of the typical romance dynamic should be a tasteful nod to the feminist army (not that it will please them -It is a great movie which constantly keeps you entertained and asking for more. What an incredible movie. Same "changing world" effect like Star Wars 1976 and Matrix: Hated by critics and loved by the audiences...!

TheSpeaking as a person that is not a fan of either manga or anime, I have to say I LOVED this movie I went to see it just because my friend wanted me to go with him and that James Cameron worked on it, I was very impressed with the movie. The CGI was masterful and the fight scenes were some of the best I've seen in any movie out the past few years. The pacing is one of the major complaints I have of the movie a lot is thrown at you very quickly you need to piece together. The relationships were very quick to develop and were quite cheesy, Other than Alita I never really cared for the other character's because they were thrown in so fast and quickly moved away from them. I really recommend people go see the movie overall it has been one of the most enjoyable movies I have seen the last number of years, I really hope a second movie comes quickly from it and maybe a prequel to explain Alita's origin as that seemed very interesting. It has issues, I won't deny it. The romance is a bit **** the dialogue is horrible. But still, the movie is so goddamn fun! Go watch it!

Overall, a good movie plagued by a mediocre story line with some plot holes and a cliffhanger ending, but the visionary concept and spectacular visuals more than makes up for it. It could of been a near flawless movie if they took the timeOverall, a good movie plagued by a mediocre story line with some plot holes and a cliffhanger ending, but the visionary concept and spectacular visuals more than makes up for it. It could of been a near flawless movie if they took the time and effort to write a better script based off of the anime. However, I definitely felt like I got my money's worth watching it on IMAX 3D though as it made great use of it unlike other movies. Expand
