  • Summary: I Am Fish is a charming, physics-based adventure starring four intrepid fish friends, forcibly separated from their home in a pet shop fish tank. Over the course of the game you join them as they swim, fly, roll and chomp their way to the open ocean from the far-flung corners of BarnardshireI Am Fish is a charming, physics-based adventure starring four intrepid fish friends, forcibly separated from their home in a pet shop fish tank. Over the course of the game you join them as they swim, fly, roll and chomp their way to the open ocean from the far-flung corners of Barnardshire (the smallest county in England) in their bid for freedom and to re-unite once again. FINTASTIC FRIENDS
Meet our heroes! Goldfish - cheerful, brave, and adventurous, a natural born swimmer! Pufferfish – a little slow but kind-hearted who can also puff up into a ball and roll across land. Piranha - wild, chaotic, loud, unpredictable, and loves to bite - obviously. Flying Fish – a little aloof at times but a real softy at heart, with the ability to glide through the air! These plucky heroes will leave no bowl unturned, putting their heart and shoal into the mission to re-unite!

NO NEED TO BE A BRAIN STURGEON
Swim, roll, glide, chomp, flip flop, inflate, fly and bite your way through enthralling challenges. A simple, intuitive control scheme leaves no excuses should your fish perish leaving you feeling very gill-ty.
    THINK OUTSIDE THE BOWL
With its idyllic coastline and quaint villages Barnardshire might seem like a perfect slice of quintessential tranquility, but to our aquatic adventurers it’s alive with the very real threats presented by crossing roads, traversing rooftops, dodging deep fat fryers, avoiding wildlife including the cantankerous locals, not to mention fragile fishbowls and the very real problem that fish can’t breathe out of water.
    LEAVE NO FISH BEHIND
We won’t dwell on grizzly fish death, but should your fish fall too far in whatever make-shift fishbowl it finds itself in, run out of air or generally flounder you will be popped back to the most recent checkpoint to refine your approach.
    SWIM TO FREEDOM
Our four fin-tastic friends will be hitching rides in all manner of ad hoc water carriers including jars, mop buckets on wheels and the occasional pint glass. Cheers! Navigating in each make-shift aquatic vehicle poses its own unique challenge, but don’t worry, the relative freedom of open water is never too far away with inviting fountains, swimming pools and err, sewers full of hazardous materials to splash around in, before reaching the final goal – the shimmering, open ocean.

I Am Fish is wacky, hilarious, and sometimes agonizing, but still well worth the time for those with a stomach for it. Its intentionally maddening controls and platforming are gimmicks that sometimes overstay their welcome, especially when bad checkpointing and cheap deaths undo all your progress, but most of the time it does a good job at balancing difficulty and rewarding persistence. Even after hundreds of humbling deaths, its lasting charm stuck with the whole way through.

Hopefully fixes are on the way for its technical issues because otherwise, I Am Fish is a fun and charming physics puzzle title. This game feels like the next evolution of the comedy sim genre that’s replacing the wonky, janky nodding goats and intentionally poor control schemes for a more deliberate style of comedy that’s much more accessible, interesting and polished.

There’s an enjoyable, well presented adventure on offer with I Am Fish which undeniably has charm. However, the experience is inconsistent thanks to some questionable controls.

The game's charm ultimately holds it up and prevents it from being a total nightmare. It's goofy and cute, contrasting the potentially oppressive nature of the gameplay. It has heart and echoes the basic premise of Finding Nemo, albeit without Pixar's emotional touch. I Am Fish can also be exhausting thanks to its intentionally frustrating controls. Maybe that's the point, but sometimes it doesn't work and just creates an infuriating experience with no satisfying outcome when the player overcomes it. If it weren't for the game's varied levels and quirky scenarios, it's likely that I Am Fish would sink under that weight, but thanks to excessive charm, it still manages to get enough right to justify a look from anyone with enough patience to appreciate it.

I am fish is a 6 hour long physics based 3D fish platformer Here you play as 4 differen fish.. youre best buds enjoying your life in a fish tank and then bam, youre separated… so you ggo on a journey to get to the ocean in hopes that your friends are waiting for oyu there and will fin your way.. luckily that’s up to you.. the player.. as you get to play as all 4 unique fish friends.. and the unique part is as good as it is bad..
This is a physics based game.. which is fine for 2 out of the 4 fish.. so basically half of the game I loved, half of the game annoyed me.. first you play as the gold fish, the gold fish has no special abilities, youre rolling around in a fish bowl or glass container, hopping over obstacles… this was one of my favorite chapters, just simple monkey ball meets fish bowl, but again being physics based making it much more slow… you can feel the frustration start to kick in because of how slow and meticulous things are.. but its doable and you feel a sense of satisfaction each time you make it to a new checkpoint.. then I played probably my least favorite chapter.. the flying fish.. back to the too mych fishycs line… the emphasis on lets make a phyics games can be felt here… These 3 levels in this chapter were unplayably bad.. here its more puddle jumping, hop out of the water, glide to the next puddle, of course don’t be out of the water too long or youll die like every other chapter… and.. I absolutely hate the flying controls, I hate the jumping out of the water… none of it feels good or ntuitive, it will all make you want to rip your hair out.. thankfully this game does allow you to skip to the next checkpoint in any level… and im so happy this is the case cause I abused this function so much for the flying fish.. if the whole game was the flying fish I swear this game would be a 1/10, though you don’t get out completey unscaved, you still have to do the final checkpoint at least to unlock the next level.. next I played as the pirannah, this chapter is annoying with the physics emphasis, but so much more doable and manageable… the pirana’s section is more so about finding things to bite to flood your level and move on… its more hide and seeky, eye spy puzzle solving.. my only frustration again comes with the physics.. the jumping just feels awful here, and trying to move th camera and jump and bite at the same time.. ame with the flying mechanic.. is just a nightmare and I wish they got a tad more arcadey here with the jumping and again the flying, less frustrating physics.. and finally we get my absolute favorite chapter of the game, the puffer fish… This chapter is a blast.. I want a whole game as just the puffer fish.. please give me I am puffer fish.. your ability is turning into a ball, so you can hop out of water, roll down a hill, avoid obstacles, sink down to the bottom of the water, puff up for a jump boost.. it was so fun.. and really boosted my mood after the 2 fish before it..
Overall I am Fish has its moments of pure fun, but im not gonna lie.. the frustration overshadowed the fun.. you know theres an issue when you have to allow player to skip checkpoints.. lets have an arcade difficulty selection next time or have one patched in..

The game is frustrating to play, and while this shouldn't be an issue, you don't feel that sense of reward after completing it. I honestlyThe game is frustrating to play, and while this shouldn't be an issue, you don't feel that sense of reward after completing it. I honestly ended up almost throwing my controller out the window with this game. I absolutely refuse to play these levels again for the collectibles.

Unlike Cuphead, I am bread or Getting over it, in which you get better the more you play, in this game you mostly don't have control over what happens in game, which is a really sour sensation in games for me, specially since the randomness comes from physics rather than actual RNG like Mario Party.

The game has nice graphics, but they look unfinished sometimes. The level design is honestly sickening and the story is next to non-existent. The idea for the game is not bad, since the fish you play as really can make a difference in the gameplay, but the problem with the gameplay and controls makes you forget about what makes the game good and replaces it with frustration.

I guess if you want to challenge yourself for no reason this game is for you, but I play games to have fun, and I certainly did not have any while playing this game. The game is not awful, but it's just not for me.

I like the concept and have always been a fan of games of this type. It's hard to rate highly due to the performance though. This game is not complex enough to warrant a locked 30fps framerate on next-gen consoles. And as if that wasn't bad enough, it doesn't even maintain those 30fps very often. It constantly slips well below that. This game would benefit greatly from a smoother experience, and it's really what's holding the game back for me personally. It was fun enough, but the performance is pretty awful. Expand

My biggest complain is the frame rate, for a physics base game, locked 30fps is unacceptable, especially on the Xbox series x. I understandMy biggest complain is the frame rate, for a physics base game, locked 30fps is unacceptable, especially on the Xbox series x. I understand there’s raytracing, but there’s triple a games with way better graphic and still runs on 60fps with raytracing.

Next complain is the gameplay, the developers has turn essentially what’s a hamster ball game into a frustrating fish ball simulator. There’s absolutely no way to turn when you are going in one direction, and you basically have to pray that you bump into something to allow you to change direction.

The game just isn’t fun, there’s no sense of accomplishment because you will be fighting against the game the whole play through instead of improving your skills.
