If you haven't picked it up yet, now is definitely a great time to start, it's easy to get into and hard to get out of. On the one hand, this game has gotten far more backlash and baseless criticism from braindead bandwagon hopping troglodytes then it ever could have actually deserved; especially given the effort that Bethesda has put into listening to what fans want and implementing it as quickly as possible. They manage to do this while fixing a large number of bugs on a regular basis and the result has been a turn around very akin to the post-launch of No Man's Sky. What exists now is a stable solid and fun core gameplay loop, but one in my eyes with some room for improvement. This paired with a fun and in some ways totally original battle royale game type that still offers rewards useable in the other two game types present makes for a rewarding experience and a game well worth the money... Now. This brings me to why I am of two minds. While great praise would be given for how far this game has come from what it started as it simply put shouldn't have shipped that way in the first place. It is not by any means a good practice for a company to charge full price for a broken buggy mess and expect their customers to wait patiently while they take a year to fix it. I am, however, understanding enough to acknowledge that I am not privy to the industry goings-on behind closed doors and so it is not my place to make judgments about events that I am not fully aware as to the cause of. All of this aside, what exists now is a fun engaging experience that is worth the price tag, regardless of the road it took to get here. Expand

Picked this up on the xbox one and I have to say I'm really enjoying the gameplay. The player base (touch wood) has become quite friendly to say it is s a post apocalyptic world, and the opening quests are a good way to set you up for life in appalachia. The VATs system is noticeably different to previous games, but fits well as a system into the multilayer setting. A scarcity of ammo early on will push newer players to conserve ammo and use the many melee weapons available to them, though early perk cards in the luck tree can definitely help source additional ammo without paying the extortionate (to newbies) prices at vendors.

The issues I have experienced so far mainly boil down to optimisation for the xbox one, I. E. Frame drops (by far not a regular thing, but noticeably present). The other main issue I've experienced are glitches while using the workshop, these have only been experienced at public workshops though and consist of turrets teleporting through the ceiling, and the build mode defaulting to an item on opening rather than letting you select, can cause a great many wasted materials this way but hopefully can be patched out.

In addition the lack of NPCs is rather jarring to players coming from the previous fallout games, but with upcoming FREE dlc adding them in the future is looking bright for fallout 76, and I hope those thag gave the game a negative review can come back and give it a second chance because it really does deserve one.

Honestly my biggest complaint about the game are that the enemies in it are 99% bulletsponges. Even a dog has an absurd amount of health, requiring so many bullets to take down. Super Mutants are the worst with this regard. They hit like a truck, always attacking in groups. I've played every other fallout game except for the original two and I've never been beaten to death in x-01 power armor by a wooden board of all weapons. The pvp aspect or lack thereof is probably it's best aspect. Probably personal reasons but I really don't like pvp. It's why I don't play pvp oriented games such as pubg or fortnite. I would love to see a single player experience of the game which I hope is coming in the Wastelander dlc. The game has had it's up and downs but in this day and age what hasn't? All in all it's a great game but it's not flawless. Fix the enemies and their tankiness and I might raise it up to a 10. It doesn't deserve the hate that it's getting though. Right now I feel as though the game is in a good place, the gunplay and shooting mechanics themselves are really good for a fallout game. The live action V.A.T.S system meshes well with the online aspect of the game. The world map is vast and has many areas to explore with multiple buildings being accessible.

The main quest storyline currently is probably the only thing that is meh about the game, I feel as though when the new DLC comes out this fall adding npc's and a new quest it will become considerably better.

The game has many bugs and issues and should be labeled as early access title. But exploring the huge world, collecting loot and finding new weapons and lore items is still very fun. If they fix the issues it could be a great game. The cosmetic microtransactions are very expensive (12-18 € for a skin).

I must admit that I was initially hooked and really enjoyed playing both solo and teaming up with my friend. On the rare occasion that you encounter another player, nobody has attacked me. In fact, most players want to team up or trade. I've even been revived by other players who just happened to be in the area. The map is gigantic and was exciting to explore at first, but the game quickly becomes a boring, repetitive slog with minimal challenge. I give Bethesda credit for trying this experiment, but Fallout76 fails as a RPG and as a FPS. They might have been hoping that players would team up and battle other teams- and perhaps that happens, but I haven't experienced that. Scrounging is an essential component for Fallout- and there's plenty of it, but it really sucks when you're exploring a new area and you realize that another player had been there recently and already took everything and killed everything. There are a number of public events that you can join, but after I did an event once, I found little motivation to do it again. There are also Daily, Weekly, and Character Challenges that reward Atom Points which can be spent in the Atomic Shop. While it's easy to rack up Atom points, everything in the store is purely cosmetic. You can also purchase Atom points, but who would spend more money on Atom points when there's nothing but costumes, Photomode Poses, profile icons, emoticons, and a variety of superficial junk you can use in your CAMP? It's logical to deduce that Bethesda intended to offer player "advantages" in this shop (i.e. weapons, armor, Perks) but I guess it would've been too obvious that Fallout76 was never really meant to be a challenging, fun multiplayer experience; sadly in the end, it was just a cash grab. I've played a few hours and i'm yet to encounter another player. Therefore, I'm successfully playing the game solo. That does not mean i avoid the disadvantages of a multiplayer game. Server crashes, lag, and annoying delays in interacting with anything, add to the game's frustration.

I really don't know why this got released. Its not a fallout game and its not good enough at being something different to warrant the risky new direction. Who is this for? Don't get me wrong i'm enjoying exploring more of the fallout universe, but as game, its really, really bad. I don't typically write a review before completing a game, but i'm not sure i can finish it. There is literally nothing, beyond a new world, that is keeping me playing. Its actually so bad, it makes me want to go outside; like, in the real world (*gasp*).

The stash limit also becomes a liability when you run out of room to stash your gear because of all the junk you've collected. The amount of bugs & glitches are just ridiculous, and unacceptable for a AAA title.

Above all, it just feels like an unfinished game, and I guess that's partially true. But it feels like it was rushed through development so as to be released in time for the holidays. This game had so much potential, and still does. But Bethesda has yet to show us that they have the ability to utilize it. I'm giving this a 6 to be generous, in hopes that it somehow manages to pull a No Man's Sky on us. In other words, come back and play this game a year from now.

When I bought this game I tried hard to love it like I've loved the previous Fallout games, but this one just doesn't have it. The world is interesting, and can be beautiful, but that doesn't save this game. Too many problems already exist. Even now with most of the bugs fixed, there are fundamental problems with design of the game. With a Fallout game, we expect to have choices, to make meaningful decisions, but this option does not exist here. There aren't any human NPCs, and there aren't any options for dialogue. Theoretically this was supposed to be made up for by interacting with other players, but it just doesn't work in the way that it should. I gave this game a 5 because it has moments of real brilliance, where everything clicks, but it doesn't happen often enough to justify the purchase. Expand

After all that BS about #SavePlayerOne they take a game that has always been a single player RPG and turn it into a micro-transaction filled, monetized to hell, MMO. Then they do not even do that right.

Call me biased, call me a hater. I do not care this game is garbage. No NPCs, horrible game play and full of bugs and glitches. Bethesda and ZeniMax sold out and wanted to jump on the Fortnite, Battle Royal, MMO money train...but they had no idea what the hell they were doing. If they would have just stuck to what they where good at maybe things could have been different but they got greedy. But it is overly buggy, rendering is atrocious and the story is from dull to non-existent... The way the game runs is laggy, buggy, rendering is terrible even on a decent speed computer and the fact that the textures and look close up isn't much better than Fallout 4 worries me. Most of the textures and items had been copied over from the Fallout 4.
The game itself... The skeleton is there and I can see its potential, I hm not just here to **** all over the game, there is promise. The story is boring, not engaging and short, the side quests aren't very exciting and make me not care for the characters or lack there of... I think that the game could really benefit from NPCs, maybe add them into a DLC where they come from another vault. The format and the way the game plays seems not player friendly and rushed.
[I do like the new camera system, the idea of the field of view, the attempt at lighting and other experimental features... Also the nuke idea and the new monster are cool]

Overall I can't believe I took the risk and bought this full price, I am in shock and only play now because I feel I have to get my moneys worth.
I would advise against this game till it does a No Man Sky and does a 180 in a year, let us hope for its great future and hopefully Fallout 5

I was so exited for this game to come out, I pre-ordered it as soon as possible and when the beta launched, I loved it. A few bugs here and there but it was pretty fun with my friends for like 2 hours.

Fallout 76 was the biggest disappointment of 2018, and in the history of Bethesda. The world of Fallout 76 is fun to explore, but ultimately feels empty. All quests are boring and have the same formula to them all. With no NPC’s in the world, the only things to interact with in quests are robots, holo tapes, and terminals. Enjoying the game when it comes to combat, would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't so buggy with teammates going invisible after fast travel/entering buildings, t-posing enemies and more.
Still enjoy coming back to the game even if it can be lackluster, jumping around doing events is the only thing driving now.
Hoping things will get fixed and that the dlcs will be worthwhile.

I played this game once and once only during a free weekend some time ago, and in that short period of time I learned that there is no bottom of the barrel for modern games. This game is pure **** and Todd Howard should be fired.

In short if you are a fan play it have fun, get bored/frustrated and move on.... I did. Hell it has only been out less than 6 months and it is already selling at below a third its original price, so not a bad price if you have a spare $20. Expand

Still has glitches, bugs and predatory anti-consumer micro-transactions... this is disgusting.

However, I wanted to shed some positive light because this game is actually pretty dang fun. the open world multiplayer concept is an incredibly fun and good idea for the Fallout world. Though I will admit having some human NPCs would be nice, being able to not only be a vendor yourself but going to other players camps and being able to buy and sell there is a great fix. While the quests are for the most part fun, some can feel repetitive. However, I thoroughly enjoy walking throughout the open world and attacking creatures of all sorts! the crafting is a nice touch and I love being able to move my C.A.M.P whenever and wherever I want too. I recently moved it from the mountains down to the river for a better view and to be closer to a water source. The hunger and thirst aspect of the game is refreshing because IT's not a choir to do. The shooting and fighting mechanics feel a lot like Fallout 4 and I'm loving it! And last but certainly not least is the Survival BETA. it's what fans like myself have been wanting for a LONG time! It is a more hardcore survival experience that makes you care about stealth, managing your resources and have an all-around better awareness of your surroundings. With greater risk comes greater reward and that's what this game needed most. Expand

Fallout 76 is a good game and all. Very entertaining. But sometimes it does not work. It doesn't even load in. The bug problem and glitches are fine. It's just this game sometimes is not playable and yet it still lagging and glitching. But I do like the new features added to the game.

No NPCs is the biggest mistake in gaming history. I hope whoever championed that idea is fired. Like all past Fallout games it's the NPCs that really make it a meaningful experience. With the addition of other players it could have been perfect.

Let me say that the first problem is the location. West Virginia simply is not the best place for a fallout game. They really made a mistake by pretty much making all of the WV map available, now future above ground maps can't be added.

Most importantly the glitches and bugs. It could never be more clear that the devs were not capable of making the game. They fix one glitch only for a dozen more to show up. The game has been out for how long and still it's difficult to play because of these bugs?

Survival mode? Why? What is the point? Survival mode would mean something if once you entered a character in that mode and that was the only mode you could play. No, you can swap between normal and survival mode taking the teeth out of pvp. I remember back in the days of WoW you leveled on a pvp server and you lived under the constant threat of being ganked. Here, you go in, ???? log out and accomplish no meaningful pvp content.

If Devs really want to fix survival mode they need to make it stick to the character.

The Graphics are ok, some of the dynamic weather is beautiful especially the rain.

I truly enjoy the survival aspect especially the requirement for food water and weapon maintenance make it a more dynamic experience.

I'll end this review wit ha suggestion to improve Survival mode:

    1) Make it stick to a character, if you are in survival mode you stay in (Unless you use atoms to xfer, think of how much you could make)

    2) drop the top 3.

    3) Add twice as many players to the server

Still awful, the battle royale mode is severely lacking and unoriginal. This game has been out for almost a year, and yet there are very few noticeable improvements.

But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
