There are a few bugs here and there as people have said but personally I haven't ran into any, my duos partner had an issue with mobs spawning directly in front of him but no issues otherwise. The world is beautiful and I'm in love with the map design being an actual map. Getting to play a Fallout game with friends has been greatly enjoyable too, a lot better than I actually expected it to be as I held low hopes after all the launch issues ESO had on it's release. There's always stuff to do, the left side of my screen constantly gains more quests throughout playing and completing others, it's slow going getting quests at first but as you find more places you soon find you aren't lacking for stuff to do and there's also the events on top of that giving even more, Bethesda really took a risky step here but they've pulled it off better than they did ESO to be honest Expand

There are also plenty of npcs, though they are not human, they are still quest giving npcs. What does it matter whether they are human or not? I also have never hit the 400 stash limit despite me being the main camp builder on our team. Its called inventory management. You scrap your junk and it decreases the weight immensely. And you still have plenty of room for collecting legendary weapons. You also learn not to get too attatched to items you will never use, and just sell or scrap them. There are bugs here and there that I have encountered, but they are mostly visual and do not effect gameplay, it actually gives me a laugh. This game is awesome, and everyone needs to stop being a bandwagoner on hating something they know nothing about. Expand

We have 3 generations of our family having a blast exploring together! The day 1 content and quests fare well against any day 1 mmorg ive ever played. The key will be how Bethesda evolves the world through updates and dlc content. Those of you disappointed this didn't give you enough of a new experience, it is not Fallout V. Re-review the game a year from now and see how it stacks - against other mmorgs, not other single player campaign based games. Play RDR2 (great game!) if thats what you're looking for.

Glitches continue to be an issue but no worse than fallout IV or Skyrim. For example last night my wife and I were playing together - she was as unable to see any containers even though i joined her server. She had to log out and back in to fix the issue.

No npcs didnt bother me as much as i expected. After so many games where npcs behave as lifeless statues killing my momentum, it was refreshing to let holotapes play while I continue to explore and loot. It improves game pacing at the expense of a sense of lonliness. Another reason to play with friends!

So tired of the game engine feedback. With Microsoft and Playstation gearing up for new consoles in 2021 why wouldn't a company stretch the current engine to its limit? Sorry gamers but Bethesda is in the business of making money. I would rather have Fallout 76 for what it is versus waiting another 3 years for a next gen game and console. PC gamers, get over it - you're a dying revenue stream so you will continue to see less dev effort. Enjoy what you get or make the move to console. I dont miss my keyboard and neck pain :-)

My own impressions(not review since you know, I'm only 25 hours in):
There is definitely valid criticism for FO76 (like any game) but from my experience, its been tons of fun and surprisingly stable (bugs and all during BETA).

My background: 25+ years of gaming, 10 years of modding. My ideal Bethesda multiplayer experience has always been a 4-6 cooperative experience. FO76 went a little bigger than I expected which is good and bad. I'm 95% a PC player but this recently got an Xbox One for RDR2 and FO76 because my friends are on console.

Before I continue, anyone saying that some multiplayer wasn't a request by the fans is dead wrong. Quote from 2011 before Skyrim release from Todd Howard: "The two most requested features we get are dragons and multiplayer. We got one of them this time!”

Also, if you understand game development. Multiplayer is extremely hard to develop, especially when its a hybrid singleplayer/multiplayer experience and as complex as most Bethesda games. There is a reason why most companies don't attempt it and split the genre.

    Pros:
-Massive map with lots of content. I've explored maybe 5% of the game with 25 hours in. Now that BETA is over, I will likely take my time so there is tons of content out there. Does not feel repetitive so far and each area feels fresh and unique. Lots of detail! View Distance is amazing.

-Multiplayer within the Creation Engine (and all its pros/cons). The reason I love that they implemented multiplayer in the creation engine is that it feels and plays like a genuine Bethesda game but now with multiplayer vs making an entirely new engine and essentially separate game.

-Lots of quests. The quests have lots of content and voice acting but its tough to listen to all of it when you're with friends. If you're soloing though, there is plenty of content here to get enveloped in the story/lore.

-Private servers for all, Modding support for PC, the sky is the limit! Bethesda has been allowing heavy modding in their games for over a decade. Bethesda said full private custom servers for FO76 will be supported and that means anything you don't currently like about the game, could be essentially modded in with the heavy lifting of multiplayer implementation DONE.

-Crafting/Base Building: Lots to craft and lots to build. Both systems work well and have been expanded since FO4.

    Cons:

-UI/Sorting needs more work: These are minor but frustrating when trying to organize your inventory. I expect it to get some improvements overtime.

-Stash Limits: Though there are ways to mitigate it, the current limit too small and needs to be expanded in an intuitive way. Bethesda said they are going to do this eventually.

-Performance issues (Xbox One S): Though this has gotten better since BETA, I feel like there is room for improvement. On one hand, I love that Bethesda doesn't hold back. A horde of enemy AI IS a horde of enemy AI but when your frame rate dips its hard to enjoy it. Hopefully they can find the sweet spot in highly dense areas.

Overall, this feels like a Bethesda open world experience with Friends though a bit watered down which was expected given the work to add multiplayer (modding support is key here). This is some of the most fun I've had in a game in some time. I've always dreamed of playing a Bethesda game with friends and I feel like they captured that completely.

No NPCs except robots is kind of weird, but the stories in the holotapes include a wonderful story and increment lore. It is a new experience. I have not had any game-breaking bugs, any unplayable experiences, any hatred towards an aspect of the game, and have had fun alone and with my friends. Play the game for more than 5 minutes instead of blindly judging it. In fact, many of the reviews on this are people blaming the company and calling them EA or Activision. That is ridiculous. "A quick cash grab" and "Micro-transaction hungry" is just a lie. The amount of work that went into this game is huge, so it's definitely not a "quick cash grab", and the Atoms Shop? It's literally all visual. No advantage is given from buying outfits or facepaints, and they can all be found in-game. It has a story, one we all share an experience with, the amount of research and implementation made on the new enemies and on the lore of West Virginia definitely shows, Mods will be a thing, I don't know who started the "No mods" statement but they are wrong.

Now that that is out of the way, this game is, simply put, just really fun. It is built for multiplayer, but it can be enjoyed solo (I have played about 33 hours solo including the BETA), and its one of the most fun gaming experiences I've had. Sure it doesn't have human NPC's, and that take away from its personality, but it still has that Fallout touch in the non-human NPC's and the special moments that happen. At level 23 I went in a cave and had one of the most intense, fun moments I've ever had. The cave was filled with nuclear waste barrels, and I was half irradiated before I found a HazMat suit. With the suit on and no armor rating, I got in a fight with a level 30 Legendary (Or champion, the one with the crown, whatever its called) Alpha Deathclaw! Over a few minutes I whittled it down and finished it off with a plasma grenade, and when that thing died I was so excited I had to take a picture with it (the photo-mode is a great addition to the game).

This game isn't perfect, I've had enemies spawn in walls, a t-posing protectron saying Mr. Gutsy voice lines (I'm not joking, it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen), my camp has been deleted a few times, but its still a work in progress, and Bethesda is working hard to fix it. If you have doubts, nobody is forcing you to buy the game, but give it a few weeks and stop giving it a 0 score before you actually PLAY THE DAMN GAME.

But thats just my two cents, I know the game isn't for everyone, but you just need to stop expecting it to be New Vegas 2 and give it a chance, trust me, its worth the money :)

I have been playing mostly solo. You people realize a 0 out of 10 game is a game that does not compile. This is silly. Basing a game purely on graphics is also silly. This game is worth the pick-up. Free DLC is yet to come and its already jam packed full of content. THere may be no NPC's other than robots, but the stories on the holo tapes are full of emotion. I forget the time when I play this game and I haven't felt that in a long time. This is all just me playing without a team. I then played with a team, and things got awesome. This game delivers well on the idea of a Fallout multiplayer game. It's much like playing Fallout 4 on Survival mode and adds definite weight to the ideas of hunger, thirst and radiation exposure. The gunplay has improved a little from Fallout 4 and is definitely the best we've yet seen from the series, Bethesda hopefully learning a little from their forays into Doom and Rage.

The world is gigantic and though devoid of NPCs is filled with background lore and the untold stories of the skeletons, corpses and the charred remains littering the environment. If you enjoyed searching for lore and background in games like FO4 and Skyrim there's a lot to love about 76.
The main issue I've run into is how heavy all the items are, and though being over-encumbered is no longer the game halting experience it was in the single player games, it still is extremely inconvenient having to drop precious scrap to fast travel or engage in combat.

What this is not is Fallout 5 or even anything close to another full game in the series. Bethesda's buggy builds are still on display and playing the game alone can be a plodding time if you're expecting more surface level interaction.

Overall the game requires more of the player to get what they want out of it, lore is buried and like any action RPG/shooter some grinding is required to get worthwhile weapons or supplies. It feels like a Fallout game and plays as much. I believe any real critiques of 76 will be slowly smoothed over by Bethesda and it will find it's place in the series, if not as a sequel as a good proof-of-concept.

The downside to playing with friends is there isn't much of a challenge at all when taking on mobs of enemies, Four people at level 10 with guns and stimpaks is more than enough to take on fifty super mutants double your level. What I really enjoy about the game (I've played 76 since the pre-BETA stress Test)

--Microtransactions - the ability to trade and barter with other Vault Dwellers adds a fun twist to the game, no more depending on just NPC merchants (which 76 does have)
--The vastness of Applachia - promises hours of game time with no repeat encounters
--Being able to join up with fellow Vault Dwellers to creat actual Fallout communities
--Crafting - being able to make literally anything and everything myself. You do need plans and blueprints
--Blueprinting - Once you build your palace/castle you can blueprint it so if you move your CAMP it can be rebuilt with ease.
--Moveable CAMP - A portable workstation to enables the Vault Dweller to have immediate access to literally any workstation or Basecamp feature on the go. You do need to pay caps to move once it's been built once.

That is complete nonsense. When you play a game, base it off of itself, especially when it's new. Also, a lot of the bugs that people have been experiencing, I personally haven't experienced.

Finally, what I think is most important, is you should ignore the reviews. Buy it if you think it looks good, don't buy it if you don't. Most reviews are entirely based on opinion, and you don't need to share your their opinion.

So, overall, great game, lots of fun stuff to do, even if it has a few unfinished aspects.

So far this is one of the funnest Fallout games to date and it's actually quite hard to pull myself away from it. Though i will say it would have been nice to see a couple humans that weren't players around, the robot npcs are still a lot of fun.

It's not a perfect game though, but none really are and it isn't the best Fallout game out there either.

Does this game have bugs? Yes it does, but nothing game breaking and nothing that can't be fixed .

If you've enjoyed any of the Bethesda Fallout games and go in with an open mind, as a fan not looking to be negative like so many others, but looking to enjoy yourself, you'll have a great time.

    Highly recommend.

Hell, ars technica’s reviewer gave it a ding for having no “non-binary option” in character selection option!

Anyway, as someone who has played Fallout since the second one on PC I will say that after logging in last night with a friend and playing around 4 hours F76 is a lot of fun. My favorite aspects of Fallout 4 were base building and getting in to crazy combat encounters. Now those things can happen in some pretty well implemented multiplayer. I found the new story telling method a little weird at first but I started to enjoy it once I got the hang of the gameplay loop. Performance was acceptable and the game looks pretty amazing. I do want to get it for Xbox one X eventually for some 4K goodness but it played perfectly fine on Xbox one.

Haters are gunna hate but this is a solid good time.

Yeah sure, the game is buggy. The dev team rushed as hell to launch the game on time. I'm good with that, at least I have the chance to start playing it right now. Hope the dev team gets the chance to iterate and keep updating the game.

Short words: yeah, Fallout 4 online, bug map, bugs to solve, online, you may play without any living humans nearby, and avoid people if you want. Love it

-2 points because the graphics plan was not for the Xbox One. Maybe it looks better on an Xbox X (or Pro or whatever).

Overall it's fun, and worth a buy if you like fallout. Lots of environmental storytelling, new enemies, new weapons, and great map for exploring.

It has a whole host of issues ranging from issues pertaining to graphics, to storyline, and everything in between.
First I will focus on the positive aspects of the game. If you're into multiplayer games, this game is all right. You almost have to have a crew in this game in order for it to be truly interesting. In a way, it really does appeal to me because it requires socialization and communication amongst teammates.
Secondly, I come to the negative side. In my opinion, gear needs to be scaled to your level. What good is a level 20 rocket launcher but I'm only a level 10? It just doesn't make sense to me that I would obtain this rocket launcher ten levels before I can use it. Additionally, there seem to be many bugs in this game. The biggest one in my opinion is the fact that I get kicked out of the server on occasion. This can be a real bummer esspecially in a multiplayer game. Also, I've seen creatures such as the behemoth just sitting in the middle of the lake, not moving. I don't know whether to target him or avoid him?
Now for suggestions. Bethesda already has a rather successful MMORPG on the market. If they are hell-bent on making fallout an RPG style game, they shouldn't do a sloppy job at it. One of the things I like about Elder scrolls online is that you can complete the quest in whatever order you choose, in both you and the creatures deal damage in proportion to your level. You can run across a level 30 creature when you're level 10, ever. The same should be true for fallout. Additionally, the map should be much bigger. I'd even say quadruple the size of it. They should also have more players on the server as well. Think World of Warcraft; which brings me to my next point, they should really consider clan system. Another common complaint I've heard in the some extent I agree with that is that it will remain true to the Lord surrounding the fallout story. Every good game is a story, it has a pretext and then the storyline. This naturally leads me to the fact that there is no overarching story here. A good game has a really good story behind it, an ultimate quest which should take the player quite a while to achieve, daily quests, and numerous side quests and ultimately this question be given by real humanoid NPC's. Some don't see the utility in having humanoid NPC's, but there is a psychological factor at play here because the game feels really lonely without them. Especially when you only have a few dozen people on the server. I think many of these issues can be addressed by issuing a few patches and a really awesome, but heavily discounted DLC which would serve as an apology to the customers that were disappointed an incentive for new customers to buy the game.

My favorite part of these games is exploration--digging through old buildings, finding holotapes, notes and terminal entries that tell compelling stories about a world before it was destroyed, or the stories of survivors. If you liked that part of the earlier titles, you'll love this game too. Fallout 76 takes that to a whole new level. The stories you find are more nuanced, more detailed, and lead you on a journey to find out more. Some are brief, others will lead you on a day long side quest. The dark, cynical humor is here, the depth is here--everything you expect from a Fallout game is here--it's just a little different than the others.

I've enjoyed the multiplayer encounters I've had, other players seem to be overwhelmingly friendly, but that's been a small part of my game so far. It may become more of a necessity later in the game, but with nearly 40 hours invested, playing solo hasn't been the problem that many feared.

Yes, this game has bugs, some are serious, most will just make you laugh. Yes, there are mechanical elements that need to be addressed and have been commented on ad nauseam, but nothing that's hampered my ability to have as much fun playing this game as any other Fallout game.

This game's problem isn't what it is, it's that it isn't what many expect or want it to be. It doesn't do things that other games do--even though it's easy to assume it will. It's not an MMO, it's not a traditional RPG, it's not a PvP battle royale...it's something that kind of touches all of those things but doesn't neatly fit into a category. That surely leaves some people feeling disappointed, but I think it's a good thing. I've had nothing but good experiences with Fallout 76.

At first I was a little disappointed in that but there are two very good reasons for that, First: You are supposed to play with your friends! it was created to play together and my Wife and I are having a blast playing together and enjoy running into other players and figuring out if they are hostile or friendly and making new friends, It's great! Second: everyone died in the apocalypse! you are the first people to come out of the vault and need to rebuild, and they are true to that concept but there are still deep and emotional stories everywhere for you to find and experience, I find the stories of the people that lived and tried to survive after the bombs fell a very engaging story line for you AND your friends to find and talk about. in other multiplayer games when there is a NPC, what happens? a bunch of people are crowded around them and it breaks the emersion, I think this was a better way to do it and there are still robots that act as NPC's when necessary. please give this game a try, it is not really a single player experience (I wouldn't mind it) but if you wanted to play fallout 4 with your friends this is a great way for you to do it with and I think we are going to spend a lot of time really enjoying this game.

    - The C.A.M.P. system lets you build up your base almost anywhere outside mapped areas, and when you want to move, you can pack it back up and take it with you.
    - The ability to team up on the fly, with selectable voice chat options, means you can work together when you want to. I ended up teaming up with a rando right out of the vault, and it made exploring way more fun.
    - The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system has been reworked. You start with 1 in every category, and improve them as you level up. You also get perk cards that have their own value. You can then stack perk card on an attribute up to that attribute's level. So if my Perception is 3, I can stack 3 level 1 perception perk cards on it.

    Cons:
    - The biggest issue for me is that there are no NPCs other than random robots (either with a quest or selling stuff). Most quests are found by reading notes or listening to holotapes, which (pun intended) just feels hollow. This also means if there isn't anyone else around, you feel very truly lonely.
    - There are level caps on items, and in order to craft better gear you need to find blueprints which seem few and far between.
    - There are bugs and glitches (world clipping, spawning loop issues, etc), but hopefully they will be fixed in the near future.

Yes, it uses the same ol engine (which has been graphically improved) and still relies on the PipBoy for it's menu system (also improved from Fallout 4) but is still a good Fallout game. Every Bethesda game has weird bugs and this is no exception as they've heavily modified the engine to incorporate multiplayer. The combat is mainly the same with the exception of VATS which just takes a couple minutes to get used to. The lack of NPCs is incorporated into the story beats which end up being conveyed via audio logs (a la Bioshock).

I've run into a handful of bugs (nothing game breaking [looking at you Red Dead 2]) but have overall had a great time wether playing solo or with a team. With lots of planned support, events, updates and fixes expected throughout the year, this may be a game that looks entirely different a year from now (looking at you Sea of Thieves). It's not going to be the Game of the Year, but certainly isn't the 1's and 0's that the whiny minority of the internet is claiming it is on here.

First of all, I understand all the 1 star reviews- this game is not like other Fallout games at all and is very much a niche game for certain types of players. It kind of reminds me more of Asheron's Call- exploration and staking area claims over any set story or overlying series of mandatory quests.

For me, I was not thrilled with this game the first day with the hunger, thirst and constant shortage of wood and resources while having heavy radiation poisoning with no Rad Away(s). However, all of that is quickly minor once in a few days and you explore. *SPOILER* You can set up camp right next to a farm and cook up 100 corn soups in twenty minutes of efforts that will keep you fed AND hydrated for days of play, with certain perk cards even longer. The further you progress and level, the less and less the annoyances of this game become, by design. Started out is a chore and then it quickly became fun (for me). Encountering other players has been a positive experience (for the most part on XBox). I solo but sometimes join a pickup group at one of the many active quest locations. I do not care to PvP yet so I enjoy giving people wanted tags when they want to persist to annoy, one day, I will be hunting them. Of course, some feel otherwise and hate this PvP system which I also understand. Again, no game will ever please everyone, each game is for a niche audience.

The reason I am not giving this game a 10 are the bugs. I cannot use power armor because my character is bugged which is major. You can't text chat and can either open mic or no mic/no hear. Camp randomly has to be reset sometimes which is very minor. Crashing after a death when loaded with junk is annoying but minor. Also, soloing is heavily penalized by way of groups getting full exp and loot from each kill they tag. And, grouping with friends allows one to overcome the ridiculous storage limit of 400 in your storage chest. It is hard to find your instance if you want to try and solo mule and drop items to an alt. You will quickly reach max storage even throwing out all worthless garbage, meaning discarding valuable resources you may well need later. So, a lot of early looting, scrapping, storing and eventually just throwing away. Somewhat pointless. With the perk cards, the perfect mule can be made, hopefully one day we can also have a shared storage chest amongst all characters so soloers can also mule as people can easily via their friends to alts. And, yes the graphics are dated and the game is still largely empty and full of the same items and baddies, just altered a bit-

All said, I'm just having a blast playing it, moreso than any other MMO to date and I expect lots more to be added and fixed by the next expansion.

Instead of guiding you on the path to rebuilding the world after nuclear armageddon they have given every player the freedom to explore the world at his/her own pace. I truly believe Fallout 76 is a magnificent concept, being able to interact with others while exploring the glowing mysteries of Appalachia. NPCs from previous Fallout games were really well done and helped with immersion to a certain extent but having such a big map populated just with AI is dull for a 2018 game, especially Fallout. With Fallout 76, the story is scattered around the map for players to piece together, just like a puzzle. I think this sort of challenge is great but it certainly isn't as appealing to everyone that played previous Fallout games, especially Fallout 4. I believe that one of the most important aspects of this game is that the current concept caters mostly to hardcore fans due to the amount of planning, strategy and patience one must have in order to succeed.
The online world of Fallout has a huge amount of potential for diversification, which I am really looking forward to.
The Fallout 76 in game community is amazing and I can genuinely say that I've never seen before people that are so helpful even though they don't have anything to gain. Sure, there are a few griefers but that is to be expected from an online game with such a big fan base.
In terms of gameplay I must say that the graphics have definitely improved since Fallout 4 but there are quite a few glitches and bugs which I hope will be fixed in the future. Sometimes there are also performance issues such as freezes and crashes but they don't happen as often as they did during B.E.T.A.
Overall I can say that I love the new approach Bethesda has taken with Fallout and even though it might take a little while for everything to be the way the devs want to, I'm sure the journey ahead is going to be epic. Kudos Bethesda!

Great graphics, solid crafting, reasonable blend of VATS for a real-time world, so much content both audio and written, fun variety in the weapons. Sure I miss the NPC's, but I'm judging and scoring by what the game HAS and not what I (simply) like from the previous that is missing.

I'm only level 12, but hooked and want to get through to find out about the Enclave, Brotherhood, Overseer etc...

Every single location my buds and I have visited so far has had an interesting story to tell. Emotional holo-tapes (some several minutes long), notes, hand-written journals, terminal logs, and sentient robots all shed light on what life was like for past, pre-war inhabitants. Many times, their grim stories will even kick off a variety of small quests. It's a far cry from other survival games like Rust, Conan Exiles, DayZ, and Ark Survival that don't even HAVE quests, let alone much backstory. From what I've seen of the survival genre, the sole fact that FO76 is NOT Early Access already has me hooked.

Overall, aside from a few graphical bugs I've encountered, I've had a ton of fun surviving, exploring, fighting different enemies, building my own mini-base, and uncovering crazy secrets on the map. Even though it's not your traditional single-player Fallout RPG, the amount of content and systems at play in FO76 is staggering for an online survival MMO and can keep you and your friends occupied for weeks. If you're into PvE and Roleplay the West Virginia hills are vast and filled with NPC monsters for hunting and looting. If you're into PvP, there are always good bounties waiting on Hunter/Hunted Station radio.

Some sage advice from an old arcade player, if you're ever not sure whether a modern game is worth it's full price, rate it at $1 an hour. If you can get 60 hours of game-play from a $60 retail game, it's well worth it in my old-school, coin-operated book.

I will have to admit though in listening to the complaints of experienced users I am tempted and probably will try out Fallout 4. For now though I will probably spend my time off over this Thanksgiving holiday of 2018 playing in the world of Fallout 76 and maybe once I am more experience I too will find and discover how terrible this game truly is but for now... I was there, but I got the game and dove in and have no regrets. My original favorite game is Wasteland on the AppleII. When I first saw Fallout (1) on a shelf, I got it and played way too much on a computer barely able to run it. I have played every Fallout game at launch, and the franchise has a special place in my heart, despite studio changes.

I can understand why most reviews are so poor-- our culture of convenience has filled most people with an undeserved sense of complacent entitlement. Look closer at this franchise entry itself : it has an amazing setting with an incredibly detailed environment. The enemy design and animations are first-rate. The sound, both environmental and incidental, are awesome. The controls are intuitive and easy to master. The game mechanics are deep and intriguing. The crafting system is character-life-saving. I love designing and maintaining my camp, with noone imploring me to go save another settlement, and then popping the head off of a super mutant with one perfectly placed shot.

There are no human npcs currently. So what? This is an online survival grind, and it is at the top of its class. The missions and quests currently in the game are well written and a pleasure to pursue. Interaction online with other humans can be as in-depth or hermitly as you desire. Exploring the backstory of the Fallout mythos has been, and is an ongoing, blast. Bethesda Fallout games are about world design and game mechanics. Anyone playing a Bethesda game for the narrative needs to critically re-examine their expectations. The narrative exists only to drive exploration, and Fallout 76 already has the exploration niche covered.

Most poor reviews seem to be about missed expectations. A product needs to be judged on its own merits. On its own merits, Fallout 76 has been the most fun I've had in a Fallout game since the original. I enjoy the challenge of surviving every day on my own personal merits, with no hand-holding, and relish emerging from an hours-long schlog through a pre-fall ruin with a bag full of schwag and resources.

I have been dropped from servers a few times, and the game has frozen a few times, but that is the nature of an MMORPG, which this is. This is not like previous single-player Fallout entries, and expectations must be tailored.

If you are still on the fence, please give the game a chance. If someday some quiet hermit passes by and drops you a bag of plans and recipes, it's probably me. If you've already abandoned the ruins, it just means more battered clipboards and desk fans for me.

We can craft together in the CAMP, we can share resources and quest together, we can walk to the other sides of the map if we want. It's a fun simulator to see if we would really survive the end of the world together.

There's no NPC's, so what? We've played for 10 hours just exploring, crafting, and doing the main and some side quests. I don't know why everyone thinks there's nothing to do, they either have way more free time than I do to dedicate to a game, or they don't even own the damn game.

Even if I were playing alone there would be plenty to keep going, there's event's as well as the main and side quests.

The only bug's I've had are graphical, brahmin floating upside down or whatever, nothing that breaks the game. It's beautifully rendered as well.

The only real downside is the radio sucks, the songs are the same as Fallout 4 basically, and there's no DJ.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I challenge those leaving 0 and 1s to show us videos of their gameplay because im gonna call them out on their BS. These are fake reviews. I spent 20 hours playing the game and found a number of bugs and issues yes, but none as game breaking as these whining little brats want to let on. Let me break down bugs i saw. (Unable to find world): simple reset fixed it. Mission objectives not showing up. Reset fixed. Massive lag in certain areas (simple reset again). Seeing a common feature here? Same thing all other MMOs suffer from with half the whining. You dont like the game we get it, stop leaving fake reviews and go play your barbie games. This game is not for everyone. Personally i hate having to watch over my shoulder when looting junk because some random guy can kill you for it. Easy fix though...avoid people like you would in reality and drop the gear in your stash every chance you get. Easy fix.
    Pros:
    Graphics are really good.
Gameplay is fun but can get monotonous over time
Combat is from FO4 which some are familiar with
    Leveling up system
    Cons:
    Bugs
    Leveling up system
Players can kill you for any reason

I can go on for more cons and pros but this was mostly to show yhe game is not as bad as the whiney naysayers are claiming it to be. $60 for it is not bad.

The menu system is dated perhaps but it is functional. It is clunky, but it works. Apparently, the stash hold is too small for many but isn't part of the game about stash management.

I honestly do see what they have tried to do without the NPC. You have left the vault (76) after being given the all clear from Nuclear Holocaust. The only population that will be freed on to the wilderness will be those from vault 76, no other infrastructure will be around, no other groups and no other individuals. It will be a lonely place. The plan is to get all those from Vault 76 to work together as per overseers instructions, in a world void of humanity.
The cooperation element doesn't work for, I've had the opportunity to join groups but haven't done so. There is no chat system of note, this side needs a bit more development. Only 20 players per servers suggest little scope for hooking up with others. You need 50 - 100 to have an effective human eco-system. The human ecosystem is way too small to allow for sufficient multiplayer.

My camp always disappears when I leave the server, surely, your camp should remain permanent. Not sure why this happens.

So yes, there are significant flaws in the games. but strangely, I'm enjoying the experience. It's a testament to the game concept and game premise that perhaps keeps people tied to the game.

I found Fallout 4 boring, but the story structure here seems to always keep me moving around the map. Fallout 4 didn't do that.

I've lost server connection on a few occasions in about 20 hours playing. Frustrating.

So yes, it is a frustrating experience, sadly one that is too common nowadays.

Luckily, I have unlimited broadband download at a good speed. To recieve an update of 53Gb on this game, would be a serious pain for many. 50Gb or 100Gb download would be significant limit for many. How can they do this? DO THEY RECEIVE ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR SUCH LARGE UPDATES. All games do this now where they replace the whole software with updated versions. I suspect they get a degree of revenue back from the internet suppliers.
This abuse by the games industry must be stopped. yes, having updated product is great but there are repercussion for the end user. More consideration please.

back to Fallout 76. yes, it can look ugly, yes it has low frame rate, or no frame rate at times, its systems are tried and tested with the game engine very old now (it is showings age). A lesson for the developer, get that engine updated because you will lose kudos. Fans deserve the best experience for their buck and yes, the engine has served the developer well but in this day and age, such a product release would be a problem.
Give the game ago, but wait for the sales, IMO.

As a multiplayer-focused entry in the series, it's only natural that the focus be on the interactions between players. Fortunately, the game does this exactly as it should. PVP is highly opt-in, and harassers can easily be blocked. For those wanting the thrill and uncertainty of full PVP, 76 offers a "Hunter vs Hunted" radio station that makes listeners bounty targets against one-another, allowing them to go full "most dangerous game" among themselves, never knowing if the next person they meet is just a traveler, or a bounty hunter out for their head. Friends can be joined easily, and you can freely fast travel to your teammates' general area, so with no tethering, co-op is truly a joy for anyone who has ever wished they had a companion smart enough to use strategy and tactics. Meanwhile, the core gameplay is still Fallout through and through. If you've played Fallout 4, you'll be able to hit the ground running, though 76 brings enough improvements and refinements to make something new.

The gunplay is solid, and real-time VATS (the aim assist that Bethesda created to simulate the tactical limb targeting of the earliest entries in the series) works surprisingly well. However, melee in particular feels more satisfying and effective this time around, which is good because for once survival mechanics are baked into the core design, and you will absolutely find yourself running out of ammo. Fortunately, the rest of the survival package has been toned down from Fallout 4's box of annoyances, to something that still acts as a motivator, but isn't a constant hassle.

Showcasing the survival aspect of 76's design, the game now features full crafting, making the building of weapons, armor, and ammo available without the need for mods, along with chem crafting and cooking, the latter of which has become more useful with a widely expanded library of recipes, the need to process food to avoid illness, and thirst and hunger mechanics in general. Not that you'd realize that off the bat. Most of 76's recipes are locked at the beginning of the game, requiring that they be purchased from merchants, found in the world, or in the case of weapon upgrades learned by breaking down weapons of the type they're for (which gives an extra reason to pick up all those spare weapons lying around). In addition, weapon condition has returned to the series, giving more use to the junk that you'll accumulate over the course of your journey, rather than it being solely for building up endless settlements that contribute nothing to the game.

In truth, "settlements" actually do contribute something this time around. The player is given a personal "C.A.M.P." that can be placed in the world to give not only a build location, but a free fast-travel point. Claiming fixed-location workshops will also give a player access to special resource nodes, which can be set with automated harvesters. Some resource nodes can also be found in the wild, and automated if they fall within the player's C.A.M.P., but the workshops generally have a higher concentration of nodes, and may even contain special nodes for extracting high-value resources, some of which can only be obtained through automation - such as fusion cores from a power plant. However, at time of writing workshops currently reset when offline, and automation requires a substantial investment of resources. So workshops are currently really just a convenience option for high-level players, and most real building will be done through your C.A.M.P. - not so bad, given many people didn't care about the build mode in Fallout 4. Though if you do care, both the C.A.M.P. and fixed settlements offer occasional defense events, as well as the possibility of having to fend off raids from other players...but at least you can lock your doors and windows.

Fallout 76 also brings a lot that's new to the table. West Virginia has striking new visuals and a host of new enemy types, only one of which is lifted directly from Skyrim. Weapon and armor variety is at a high, and many returning items seem to have more modification options this time around (once you unlock them). Clothing has more variety as well, though it has become purely cosmetic. Headgear is also a fashion choice now, though some items do offer mechanical benefits, such as a gas mask, head lamp, or in one case access to a particular quest.

Yes, quest. Fallout 76, contrary to popular belief, still has quests, and a surprising variety of them - from Civil War reenactments to solving a decades-old kidnapping, and much more. It also has NPCs, if you consider robots and super mutants to be people. Given that many of them have interesting personalities in 76, you really should.

All that said, at time of writing there are sometimes missing objects or other noticeable bugs. However, Bethesda is actively patching the game, so these aren't permanent issues.

"It's not an MMO" - Absolutely. I don't know what to call it, but it is what it is. Yes, it's not as deep as a normal FO RPG, but considering this is a step into making something different to the BGS norm, it was a risky move that I personally think they pulled off.

"It's not a complete game" - Can an online game that they plan to release additional content for ever be called "complete"? What I've seen from the game so far justifies the price I paid for it (full price BTW.)

"Speak with your wallets, don't buy it" - Fine, spend your money elsewhere and play something else, no one is forcing you. But the game is here. It's out in the real world. Nothing can change that now! I am confident they will support it and it will only get better.

My opinion - If you enjoy the Fallout universe, the crafting, the looting, the exploring, the humour, and can imagine experiencing that in a multiplayer package, give FO76 a trial. It essentially still works as a single player that you can play as part of a team, even if you ever see each other. Granted the game will never be as deep as previous RPG Fallouts. Excited to see what's coming.

Fallout 76 feels like a work in progress. An EARLY work in progress. Still, if I’m judging the game entirely on whether or not it’s entertaining me, it’s actually a lot better than most are giving it credit for. Oddities and bugs aside, it’s fun if you get over your sequel expectations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Background - gamer for life since the 90's. I've played Bethesda titles since Morrowind and fallout 3 to this one.

The good: This is a fine game, much like Ark, DayZ and other salvage / craft / build games. I like the systems in place to prevent griefing, and being randomly off'ed by other players - that takes something from the game that was good drama though. As a casual player, I'm happily missing it. the CAMP concept prevents situations in ark and other games where players fill the map and make it in accessible. It feels more fresh than other MMO's - I don't have to deal with feeling that I don't make any impact or the quests are non-nonsensically repeated (you can only kill someone once!) - quests like repeated supply drops or feeding the people just make sense as dailys.

    [SOME SPOILERS]

The bad - it glitches, I get T pose and sometimes it crashes, like once per session... that sucks. Lag rarely has led to me getting screwed in combat though, pretty equal to the boning that happens when playing other games of this type.

Criticism of negativity towards this game:
THIS IS A 'SOFTCORE' SURVIVAL GAME IN THE FALLOUT UNIVERSE - IT IS A DIFFERENT GAME TYPE

People are super upset about the deviation in formula, but if you take it at face value as a survival game it is fine in my opinion.

I can see how it deviates from Fallout - but I don't know how they could of done better with multiplayer fallout. Would people be that more happy to have NPC people standing in place giving quests versus robots? I guess. And the lore of this - its 20 years after the bombs! and, the whole deal of the quest (spoilers) is that beasts have killed all the survivors of the nuclear attacks proper.

Overall, I'm getting my 60 bucks worth with my nice base, main quest, and the friends I'm making (who are playing an awful lot despite all the **** :D )

Bethesda has been abusing their fans for so long this is just their current offense. Pay to win. Pay to play. Just pay to pay at this point. If u love Fallout, avoid this. There's nothing here of value for anyone with any sense of rationale

Most of the reviews are unfair. If you liked Fallout 4, this is basically Fallout 4 online. Its not a cash grab and unlike ESO to SKyrim, you actually get the same feel in game as you did with Fallout 4. The issues I've run into can all be fixed either in time by Bethesda or with mods. Like all Bethesda games, this one has problems at launch. The main one being stash size limit of 400. Loved the game for the first 2 days, until I hit this wall. The next day was spent in menus reducing my stash and scrapping items I wanted to keep. I'm a hoarder, but not to an extreme. I only want one of each item, that's it. When a game comes with presale skins and offers more of them in the ATOM shop, plus factor in Skyrim, Fallout 4, ESO, you would think they would allow us to actually display some of these items. Keeping higher level weapons you find, like mini-guns has become impossible really. I stopped looting bodies, even checking them unless they are legendary. Extra Power Armor chassis that were meant for displays, I scrapped. And Bethesda saying the limit it gets easier as you level, it only does if you ignore and stop looting bodies and rooms. Otherwise we have zero room. Both collecting and building are ruined at the moment due to size limits and all that leaves is a go here and do this quest feel. There are some great stories, scattered around the wasteland. There is also a lot of dead space and even cool environments lacking content. All the more reason to allow players to actually build decent size structures and display their findings. Literally, a higher stash size and build limit fixes at least 50% of the issues with the game. I can play through the lag, quest bugs, poor quest tracker, etc because i know these are things that will get fixed and improved with time. Future improvements that I'd love to see, vendor bots built at player settlements to sell their items, but once again that requires the stash and build limit increases. Also, companions. Give us a dog or a bot, nothing more. Do that on consoles and most of us are happy. We can worry about lighting and shading later. Expand

The game is a blast with friends if you like loot shooters and teaming up to take down big mobs you will be fine. Stash limit hurts a bit but it isn't unmanageable, just have to lose the loot all the things mentality. Yes there are bugs but I'm on a one S and it has moments where the frame rate drags but they have been the exception not the rule.

I have played fully solo untill now, and I enjoy the loneliness of the world and how the world looks and feels. There are only two things really bother me. The first one is the stash limit, you'll reach it really fast, but as I understood this will be changed in an update. The second thing I don't like it that you have to wear armor underneath clothes, except when wearing the vault suit. I want to see my armor like in Fallout 4. No idea why this isn't an option anymore.

I have encountered 3 bugs in 20 hours playing, and those bugs were minor and not game wrecking.

I'm going to say three things up front:

First, this game is not for everyone, and in that sense, anyone who 'gave it a try' and 'reviewed it accordingly' your opinion is fairly valuable. For all the people who haven't even played the game dropping zeros it's a bit disappointing, as essentially you're pigeonholing Bethesda into only one type of game, and I think that expecting 'only single-player' is just as ridiculous as the movement to expect multiplayer on all new releases, if you don't see the hypocrisy you're somewhat dense.

Second, in light of the above, I strongly recommend you ask yourself the following questions before you consider purchasing this game. One, can you appreciate a game on it's own merits, without comparing it to it's franchise? If yes, consider this game. Two, do you enjoy 'light' multiplayer interaction with the 'option' to play cooperatively? If yes, consider this game. Three, when playing other Bethesda games, did you find that the 'human' characters were 'full of rich personality that warranted them having in game characters'? If yes, this game might be a disappointment, and consider not getting it.

Third, addressing the last point of the previous paragraph, the lack of NPC's. For one, recognize that the lack of NPC's is only relevant when it comes to humans. Furthermore, recognize that this is not an immersion breaking aspect of the game, because it's actually 'part' of the story. If you enjoy 'mystery' related quests (Which involve a lot of go here, read this, fetch this, look at this game-play), then you might enjoy this. You're enjoyment is likely dependent on how much personality you 'really' think Bethesda's human NPC's added to the game. Thinking back on it myself, I recall 'very very few' human Bethesda NPC's that were rich with personality, and benefited from having in game characters personally. It's not that they aren't adequate, just that the non-human NPC's tend to be the most interesting, and there are plenty of friendly robots, super mutants, and other characters in this game, and the 'depth' of most 'human characters' always came from the environmental storytelling and their writings or holotapes, which obvious this game is chalked full of.

I emphasize again, it may not be obvious to users, but this is 'relatively' consistent with the fallout lore, there is a story reason for the lack of human NPC's, there is a story reason for the lack of friendly ghouls, there is a lot of deep lore to be discovered here, and if you're willing to read and listen, it's more concentrated then in other games. For me, this beats flat human NPC's any day, so I personally detract no points for this. For other players, the 'psuedo-interaction' of having a poorly voiced, badly scripted, placeholder NPC that stands around waiting for you to arrive to give you quests is a necessity, and while I personally don't get it, I can't really say it's wrong as it's subjective. If that's you, avoid this game, but recognize that it actually has 'fewer' story related immersion breaking moments because of that fact... Now for the 'technical immersion breaking issues'...

So this is where I take two points off for Bethesda, and the reason it's an 8 in my books, and not a 10. The thing is it's a Bethesda launch, so I expect glitches and bugs. To be honest, if you're accustomed to Bethesda launches, this launch is in a lot of ways 'less' buggy then other launches, but be prepared to lose items to glitches, get killed to glitches, and freeze out of the game at inopportune times. I'd say I run into a game-play detracting glitch every 8 hours or so, and I've got about 50 hours in the game.

The reason I'm not deducting more, is because honestly, a glitch every 8 hours for me is not that big of a deal, and while it sometimes will result in some lost time, I've been playing Bethesda games since Arena, so this is something I'm used to. Also, frankly, they seem to be supporting and patching more than there other games. It is 'more' pervasive if you are working with multiplayer elements of the game, since that's no doubt where Bethesda is in the process of 'learning' the most. If you run around solo, the game breaking elements are rarer, and you will be immersed for hours at a time.

Finally, regarding whether the game 'feels' like a fallout game. I'm more of a 'fallout veteran' then most of the gamers who claim that title, and have only been playing since Fallout 3. I played the original Fallout when it was released by Interplay, played Black Isles follow up, and played both Bethesda's single player versions, and New Vegas from Obsidian. All these games are so mechanically, aesthetically, and generally different that to me what makes fallout is the lore. I think people complaining about the game not feeling like fallout should qualify their claims to "not feeling like previous Bethesda fallout games". This is not bad for me, it's innovation so no points lost.

Let’s start off with some food for thought. What has always been the most appealing thing about fallout games? The large open world with seemingly endless exploration. The large open world with seemingly endless exploration. No one played the other for the story. Fallout new Vegas even had a short story that while it had quite a bit of options was still predictable and at times boring. The side quests and dlc are what made it such a fun game. Fallout 76 has about as much exploration as you could hope for. People who say it becomes repetitive and boring probably haven’t actually put time into the areas they’ve been to. True there is no main story and that is disappointing but without the story it is still a fallout out game. They took the main story and changed it into dozens and dozens of smaller stories. It’s not another game about finding someone. It is a game about discovering a new area and learning the story of that building, town, family, or person. Some are shallow and boring, yes. However many are interesting, funny, gross, and disturbing. Finding some of the letters and holotapes can be a little challenging and is very understandable that people don’t want to hunt for 10 minutes for a very well hidden holotape to connect 2 parts of a story. A problem I often ran into in previous games was I would run out of fun enemies to fight. This does create some obvious predictability with some set enemy spons however it lets you always have a challenge when you want to go fight a tougher enemy. This game can for sure be played as a single player game but once in awhile it’s nice waking up to someone I don’t know, helping in a hard fight, and then waving at each other and going about your business. The player base I’ve met have almost all been friendly. Now the definite bad. No private servers so you don’t have the option to be 100% alone. Tons of bugs and glitches. I haven’t experienced anything game breaking but just some frame rate drops, minor lag, and the occasional items glitched out. I play on the one x so I’m sure other people’s experiences vary. If you come into this expecting your typical fallout game you’ll be disappointed at least a bit. This game has a large amount of potential and I do think the release should have been pushed back. It is still very playable and enjoyable and I recommend giving it a try. If you don’t like it then come back again in a few months. This review is based of the endless enjoyment I’ve had playing this game, the faults I’ve encountered, things, I wish were different, and lastly the potential I see in this game. It’s a nice shake up for the typical fallout norm that everyone is apparently wishing for. Expand

    PREFACE
In case you’re wondering why there are no human NPC’s, it’s because we are the first people to crawl out from the vaults after only 25 years. There are no significant amounts of people in the upper Appalachia to begin with. I lived in Beckley, WV which is located in the Ash Heap area of Fallout 76. With a full out atomic war, approximately 84% of the population would perish, leaving the 16K residents of Beckley at about 2.5K people, of which they would soon start dying of radiation sickness, leaving very few people left. In a Fallout world, best case scenario, they become feral ghouls. In a worst-case scenario, everyone perishes but the residents of the vault.
    Us!
So here we go, Reclamation Day!
I spent about 6 hours playing the first day I had it. Learning the mechanics of the game. Learning the lay of the land. Wondering how the hell are there level 76 players on the map already?!?! Accidentally turning on PVP. Getting killed exiting the Vault by said level 76 player (looking at you Reecapocalypse). Making my C.A.M.P. Accidentally shooting at someone else’s home defenses and becoming wanted. Getting a grenade thrown at me to collect by another player to collect the bounty. Growing my crops. Greeting other players along the way as we each worked to reclaim the land and become the progenitors of the Fallout worlds to come!
This is a survival RPG game, plain and simple.
The main story quest is intriguing, I want to know what happens next. While making my way through the main quest, I’m finding side quests, and somehow getting stuck in an event for 20 minutes during a side quest. Water. I need water. Canned dog food is yummy. OMG just stop already rad animals. What was that screaming? Oh, it’s just me. I need to rest, wait what is that? An event! Oh hi other players! How many super mutants are there? Ammo. I need lots of ammo. I’ll just sneak by this area with its deathly death claw. Well hello train station!
Leveling up is similar to most RPG/Bethesda games. Special and perks are little different, think Skyrim perk trees as playing cards, but once you get the gist of it, it all starts to piece together.
C.A.M.P.-ing and building is by far my favorite activity. Just settling in atop my perch and taking in the breathtaking views while I play my steel guitar and listen to the rat-ta-tat-tat of my turrets taking down an unwanted intruder after my crops of blackberries, tatos, mutfruit, corn, razorgrain and carrots. Bliss!
So far, it feels a bit like TESO in some aspects of the game.
The map is expansive, but made accessible with fast travel, at reasonable cap costs.
Items are bought at low cap amounts. You can’t sell some items, they are meant to be shared with others or teammates.
Inventory is not limited per se, it is regulated. Ie; you can’t have nine thousand items in your stash box, just the essentials for survival.
Your look is not regulated by armor, your “outfit” is what is seen if you have one.
I’m sure there are more similarities, but these are my first impressions.
Now on to one or two of the bugs, because it wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t address these.
My C.A.M.P. disappeared. I had to look up the work around, but because of my build, I had to kind of start over. As long as you don’t have a complicated build and blueprint your base, you’ll have no issue if this happens to you.
WHY CAN’T I HANG THESE DAMN WINDCHIMES??
Why is that feral ghoul/scorcher/mole rat/et al, sliding across the ground like that and why is his neck stretched out now that he’s dead? (To be fair, this was in Fallout 4 also.)
I don’t think that guy is supposed to look like that with his power armor off.
    I didn’t cancel the trade/team invite.
Mostly funny, a little irritating, but certainly not making it unplayable or game breaking. As the old saying goes, did you try turning off and back on again?
And though I was apprehensive about getting the game in the beginning, I was and am not put off by the bad reviews (it seems that negative review bombing is the newest form of trolling) and have thoroughly enjoyed myself thus far. Fallout 76 is a lot of fun, solo or with a team. I for one am looking forward to updates and/or DLC that may be coming. I will be playing this game for a long while to come. I hope I’ll be a level 100 by then, and when that next level 2 vault dweller exits, I’ll be there to kill him also. j/k
Until then, I’ll continue my journey on the country roads, to take me home, to the place I belong, West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home country roads!

It's glitchy, it has crashed twice in 5 (long) play sessions, and the look of it isn't quite right yet - but these will be fixed in the coming months. Those things are all great, but I play Fallout for the atmosphere. These games have been so excellent at creating, through visuals, music, and geopgraphic innovations, the perfect desolate post-apocalyptic wasteland and that remains one of the biggest strengths of this game and why I've enjoyed playing it so much. The map is simply huge (and actually the map screen is kind of gorgeous) and there are so many fun adventures to get into. I have mostly playing pretty solo, but that actually adds to the desolate solitary atmosphere of armageddon. I've frankly had a blast playing this game and I'm very glad I ignored the majority of the negative criticism of the game. People are generally writing reviews for themselves instead of for other gamers. If the stuff I mentioned up top is important to you, I recommend you don't buy this game now until they've fixed some of the glaring technical issues. You'll be frustrated. If you want a sprawling, atmospheric, action-packed post-apocalyptic experience that you can choose to share with friends and strangers, give the game a chance. It's kind of a blast. Expand

So for them to release this without at least acknowledging the bugs is surprising. Huge updates are coming in and with not much-changing quality-wise, it puts me to edge the wonder if they even care. Fans and Bethesda say they're gonna fix something, all I can say is by god they better.

The graphics, my lord the graphics. Bethesda really tried to act like Fallout 76 was gonna make GTA 5 look like damn Super Mario 64. Spoiler alert, it's basically the same as Fallout 4. I'm not one to care much about graphics, but this is Bethesda! At least make this games graphics look better than the last one like every other company does.

And look, if you're bored from Fallout 4, hate to say it, but 76 doesn't have much more to offer. Yes, there is multiplayer and nukes to launch, though other than that, that's the only thing I really think of that stands out from 4. Though if you're missing Fallout 4, you want to jump into the wasteland again, this may be something to consider trying.

(Small spoiler alert, skip to next paragraph to avoid)
Alright the story: don't expect much. From what I played it's about the overseer (leader) of the vault trying to pick up some research about the "Scorched", victims the mysterious disease infecting West Virginia. It's alright. Though I wish they kept NPCs for this, instead of throwing a bunch of damn pieces of plastic around, or holotapes as known, where you hear them but not see them. It gets boring over time and it feels more lonely than intriguing.

There are a couple of things I liked about the game overall though. Fallout 4 had the most depressing and gloomy map I've ever seen. That was what deserves the title "Fifty Shades of Gray". But in 76, there so much colour around the map, from the dark gloomy land of mines Ash Heap to the white and snowy Toxic Valley with amusement parks. This games colours and map really is fun to explore and sightsee.

Overall, this game has its problems no doubt. But overall it feels like an ordinary Fallout game, just with a few changes that weren't pleasing.

It's pretty much what we were told it would be - an experimental departure from 'normal' Fallout games, with limited multiplayer, and no NPCs.

I've been lucky and have encountered bugs only rarely - I've been dumped out of the game a couple of times; I once got hit by repeated invisible damage dealing, and that's about it.

The game isn't perfect, but then nor was FNV when that released (remember the Strip bug?).

90% of these negative reviews obviously have never even touched the game. Listen to the holotapes and you will realize the story is more engrossing than any of the previous fallouts because there isn’t a million people so you actually care. Cash grab? What intelligence level does it take to look at the atom shop and realize there is no cash grab in this game....the options are all purely cosemetic. You’re paying $60 dollars to play fallout with your friends...if you have any. The gameplay is fallout gameplay, everything is there, but people didn’t give it a chance and people are complaining about bugs. I have over 100 hours vested and have only experienced minor annoyances. If any real, regular gamer reads this please, please don’t get your idea of this game based on clickbait YouTube streamers. It’s a fun game with so many different things to engage in. Everyone is wanting everything handed to them on a silver platter. You’re the NPC. You make the story. Get out there and get writing your story! See you out there! Expand

This game is fun whether you play by your self or with some friends. There is in fact quests, stories and npc's just no human npc's. It does need some work though it's not perfect. As with all Bethesda games there is bugs and crashes, the crashes being the most annoying part of this game currently. Has a lot of potential, hopefully BGS can make it work.

But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
