this game was a joke in comparison of the first two halos. it took around 8 hrs play to beat this game. it was short and way to easy, I hope this is not the last one, unless they can not do any better than this one.

I had this game for a week. My time playing it went like this, Before multi player i did campaign to get some practice. The AI is good, but the story is not. Filled with annoying teenagers, kids and some mature people. The word PWN has not been used so much over chat i swear. The multi player was repetitive and bland, doing the exact same as halo 2 multi player. Basically, this is Halo 2 with polished graphics, too much advertisement for such a thing. But i guess it got them money. Graphics - 7/10, Framey and far too shiny. Gameplay - 6/10, I would rate it higher if it hadn't been done before. What the crap happened with halo 3? What made halo 2 great was the effect of being drawn into the game; the feeling that you are the master chief. An obnoxious, uninspiring mess of a game. Halo truly is the Harry Potter of the gaming world; a generic thing at the right place at the right time. At best, I would have given this a 4-5, but the fact that it has been neglected to the point of utter indiference by it's creators and portrays itself as a masterpiece, it deserves a 2. Do not believe the hype.

Really fun, I rarely enjoy console games. The multiplayer is about as much fun as I'm going to have with a gamepad/controller. Still, in terms of single player gameplay, it really isn't a glorious achievement in the FPS world. Solid, shiny, pretty, fun, but not really deserving of the massive hype machine that seems to have driven the series since the first title started to take off.

Boring storyline. Really bad gameplay. here's a list of what could be done to improve gameplay.
    1. New storyline (enough with the cliff hangers leading to disappointing finishes)
    2. should have bought back the homing rocket 3. not enough use of the Spartan laser (whats the point of bringing it into the game if we are not gonna get to use it all that much) 4. Let's pilot more

    5. Let's pilot a SCARAB. how about that?
    6. Give us better bosses (like halo 2). fighting the scarab's was the only boss that was interesting in the whole game
    7. If the gravemind was evil, let master chief finish him off, not another nuclear bomb-run-for-your-life ending.
    8. more ability to scale the terrain
    9. bring back dual weilding needlers
    10. if you are gonna bring back weapons from the first game, make sure the player has the ability to use it like they did in the first game (a.k.a pistol - no zooming capability)

thats all i have to say. thoroughly disappointed after finishing the game even on legendary.

For me, this is rare, and only ever really experienced before with Half Life 1 & 2, Knights of the Old Republic and Final Fantasy VII. The only reason this didn't get a 10 is because as the 3rd game in a trilogy, some of the story is a little hard to follow for those who haven't played or failed to complete Halos 1 & 2. (I made sure I looked at the plot overview on Wikipedia for these so that I wasn't confused or lost by the plot). The online multiplayer also seems very good, although I have only just started playing. It does seem a lot more balanced than the Halo 2 multiplayer, which I dabbled with but didn't like half as much, (mainly due to the sheer number of people taking advantage of what I now know are button glitches). Hats off to Bungie for putting together such a fine game! Don't believe the PS3 owners on here who are obviously marking the game down because their system has no 'killer app' at present. I feel like I have no advantage over other players with any weapon combinations I choose. It's fair to say there is nothing radically different about Halo 3's campaign mode. If you didn't like the others, you probably won't like this. However, play it on heroic or above and you'll see what a finely balanced, intense and rewarding combat experiance it is. This is Halo at it's purest, most finely tuned level. I've found that most people who rank this game low has either played through it on normal (the "Wal-Mart crowd" setting) or has not delved into multiplayer, theatre mode or forge mode at all. Here is where the real meat is brought to the table. Theatre should soon become a standard amongst all multiplayer FPS games. RTS players have for some time now, treated match replays as gospel for improving their skills. Now FPS players have that chance aswell. By watching matches in which you did particularly well (or badly) you can definatly improve your game. For example, I have watched the early replays of my online games to learn which "weapon run" I should take from each spawn point, making it easier to get tooled up after I get killed. My only gripe at this is that there is no easy way to get your videos played back on a computer without hooking up your Xbox to a PC with screengrabbing software. Finally, Forge succesfully combines a sandbox game with a level editor. Everyone can have fun in forge. Seriously, my wife hates FPS games, but after a bit of nagging I got her to try forge. We spent hours on there mucking around in The Pit, creating piles of explosive crates, driving vehicles up walls, corpsehumping each other, it was awesome. There is no other way such a staunch opponent of FPS games could have enjoyed Halo 3 apart from like this. It's a breath of fresh air that the FPS genre really needs. Expand

New vehicles and guns were an excellent addition. They could have made no change to the game whatsoever and just made it end and I would have been happy, but Bungie stepped it up. The new vehicles are nice, too, with the Hornet being my favorite. And the battle with the two spider tanks was epic to say the least. With amazing battles, great graphics, and heroic moments that leave you smiling and saying "Hell, yeah, that's what Halo is about", I'd say Halo 3 is definately one of the best games out today. Normally people hate on this game just because they claim it's overhyped. Sure the campaign is pretty bad, but the multiplayer (xbox live and LAN mostly) is probably the most fun and addicting multiplayer i've ever seen or played. In fact i invited some of my friends who claimed halo and halo 2was awful. When done playing some LAN matches they wanted to play over and over again.

I have to give this letdown a zero due to the fanboys who give it a 10. This game is a major letdown. The series has lasted one game to long. There is nothing new or revolutionary about Halo3. The best of the series is easily the original. Horrible hit detection, laggy game play. They actually somehow made the game more boring. Congrats Bungie. See you people on COD 4.

Halo haters cant come up with any excuses unless they are still saving up for the overpriced PSIII or just like to be different. There is not one thing majorly wrong with this game, and thats why its so looked up to. It's not always revolutionary, but unlike all other shooting games it does everything well, and in many cases sets higher standards for Shooters. This game will be remembered like Mario still is, and is the best game i have ever played. Not only that, but there will be many more games (different stories), some movies (with peter jackson, Sweet), and so much more. Ill def finish this fight countless times, and if you think about how simple it is, yet so complex it is its truly incredible. Its basic in that it can be compared to Independence day, just a war between Humans and Aliens, but then add in all the Alien weapons, all the crazy settings, all the characters, all the vehicles, and the fact that someone came up with this quiet, and often times gentle main character. Everyone looks up to him in the game, and when you hear the Aliens screaming for their life while saying "It's the Demon", you really feel like your the one saving the world. This is a classic game that so many games in the future will try to copy, and 99.9% of the time they will fall short. Although the tagline is Finish The Fight, its far from the truth, we will see much more Halo in the years to come. Easily the trilogy to rule all trilogies... Expand

Why would an all powerful ancient space artifact look like the Eiffel Tower being co-opted into the Chinese Space Program? There are serious issues in some level design legibility, specifically the organically structured stages. Way to easy to become disoriented and subsequently horde fodder. Vehicle stages definitely stand out, wish there'd been more of those! Multi-Player certainly caters to veterans of the series, with a diversity of game types that would be expected by multiplayer shooter fans with PC on-line backgrounds, but have been sadly missing from other genre games on the 360, like Gears of War for example. Would have been nice to see still further diversity of game types, though. Why only two teams at a time? And where is the epic scale of map sizes on-line? And why can't I play the monsters? Or drive the giant robot crabs or interstellar spaceships? The overall aesthetics don't seem up-rezzed in any way, appears the rendering engine and streaming systems are the same as the previous two installments. Lot of long load times and seeking lags as well, not a smooth ride as I would have expected from 360's tent pole title. And even after playing through the whole thing, still don't understand the TV add with the pretty score and strange Warhammer looking table top battle scene. Expand

Many levels in the campaign feel tiredly familiar, where instead, they're meant to feel nostalgic to Halo 1. Some moments are memorable and provided me with the *wow* factor only a title like Halo 3 could bring, while others made me feel empty, seeming like I was not playing an evolution to an OK series (Halo 1 = good, Halo 2 = bad), but merely a lesser tribute to the first game (making it the entire experience feel average). For every great joust in the campaign there seems to be an empty feeling accompanying it. The story and its pacing are not nearly on par with the original Halo, of which the series owes much of its Expand

Most of the whiners on here DON'T have an HDTV. What else would compel them to think the graphics "suck." Give me a break. Halo 3 is a real work of art. Bravo!!

Big fan of the series. I liked the campaign, don't really know why people are so upset about that. Huge setback, spoiled by too big areas. And that snowy map; why on earth there are those shield-doors??? makes gaming ridiculous. I just wait for update to make things right again. Many objects look fantastic if you stick your nose on them, but when you back away a few paces they turn into shimmery piles of crap. It's especially obvious when you get into Covenant structures and find that their familiar architecture looked better on the Xbox 1 because of Halo 3's aliasing and texture filtering problems. It's tragic, too, because the art direction is fantastic. The game would look amazing if it was presented without all the artifacts. That aside, if you're a Halo fan, this is classic stuff. The weapons feel great, the vehicles are fun to drive, fire fights are a blast, etc. The sound design is fantastic (try firing the assault rifle into nearby water, it sounds awesome) and the music is the best of the series. I enjoyed the story more than I did in Halo 1 or 2, though the writing is often cheesy, and some stuff that is played for emotional impact falls flat (like the Deep Thoughts by Cortana that keep popping up on your HUD). Multiplayer kicks ass, and Bungie has obviously invested a LOT of time and effort here. The matchmaking system is super slick, and the amount of options you have for creating your own game types is amazing for a console game (though, unless they ship a real level editor, it's going to be trumped by Unreal when it allows users to upload their own maps). Probably the biggest addition, which is technically amazing, is the addition of the Theater. Every game you play is recorded to disk and can be played back, frame by frame. It's too sweet being able to go back and relive your greatest multiplayer moments, or see what the winning team did, not to mention what all the machinima guys like Red vs Blue are going to do with this. Overall a great game. I wish they had presented the game with less artifacts (even if it required simplifying the graphics), but I still enjoyed the ride. Expand

Besides Bioshock, this is the best game out right now. all the haters out there writing about how crappy the game is, they really don't know anything. It's a huge innovation over the last and yes, the conclusion isn't what it should've been but if you stay and watch after the end credits are over, you'll feel absolutely glad you bought the game. jerks...

I didn't have high hopes for this game, as I was disappointed greatly by Halo 2, but it manages to surpass my expectations. The changes to dual wielding are great, as are the new weapons, multiplayer is far more balanced, and it has the most robust, yet intuitive multiplayer components of any game I've ever played.

Not even HD. Moore and Gates were claiming just two E3s ago Halo would be the best game graphically on any system and were showing supposed "in-game" footage. Now the game is out and it's nowhere close to the footage they showed, infact the game isn't even HD. It's only 640p resolution, upscaled to 1080p. Very disappointed.

This is a fantastic game. Ignore the low scores from the others, most of them are just ignorant. The graphics are also superb, without being as technically impressive as Gears of War. This game has far superior gameplay to most FPS titles including Half Life 2, Bioshock and Gears of War. Most of all Halo 3 is great fun and well worth purchasing.

The multiplayer is indeed frighteningly extensive, and the single player campaign - although something of a breeze if you tackle it with a team of four - ultimately satisfying. We enjoyed the hell out of ourselves.

Halo 3 delivered what it promised in almost every single way. My only problem with it is how short the single player campaign was. Everyone seems to complain about the graphics, but personally I think they're better than Gears of War. Now before you jump all over me, hear me out. I think they're better because H3 has some actual color and variety behind it. Gears of war looked Halo 3 delivered what it promised in almost every single way. Now before you jump all over me, hear me out. I think they're better because H3 has some actual color and variety behind it. Gears of war looked more photo realistic, but everything in the game was black and grey, which became really boring. Little details like you feet sinking slightly into sand or snow, leaving footprints just add to the experience. As for the gameplay, with the focus taken back more to the original formula of guns, melee bashing and grenades, it feels alot more like Halo. The exhisting guns have all been tweaked and the new ones like the gravity hammer is a blast, literally sending enemies flying in all directions. The controls work exactly as they should, esp. in the middle of a heated firefight. I rarely felt like I died because the controls didn't work as they should, like the clunky controls in Gears. The vehicles work exactly as they should and nothing is funnier than running down ghosts in a brute chopper. Multiplayer is frantic and alot of fun, and the new equipment spice things up a bit. Radar jammers, trip mines, the bubble shield, deployable cover, power drainers, ect, ect, all add another level of tatics. The forge and theater are both alot of fun. I was playing a game on forge, and being able to help my team out by dropping a much needed weapon or vehicle was a godsend. I know that sounds cheap, but keep in mind, the other team can do the same. The theater is fun, but I've mainly used it to show my friends exactly how I shot them in the head, or how to take a look at how I was killed, so i can learn from my mistakes. All around a great game and alot of fun. Expand

  1. It's the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs, legs that will probably keep you running at full speed until Bungie figures out where, exactly, to go from here.
  2. Halo 3 is the best Xbox 360 game to date. The single-player campaign and storyline are both very strong, but it's Forge and the Saved Films features that will likely go down in history as Bungie's crowning achievements. They've basically taken everything great about the series and improved upon it in every way, then added some amazing new features that we'll be using for years to come.
  3. 100
It's solid gameplay, immense replayability, online functionality and incredible production values will ensure its place in video game history, and it is, without a doubt, a satisfying and fulfilling close to the beloved trilogy[?].
