Halo 3 is one of the most engaging and ingenious games I've ever played. Right off the bat I was blown away by the colorful landscape and amazing graphics. The achievements for finding skulls and replaying the campaign on harder difficulties had me playing it forever. Even when all of that was done, the online experience is nothing short of amazing. Best Halo Game Yet!

i can find nothing unique about this generic FPS. seriously, its just another sci-fi shooter with sub-par graphics and boring gameplay. if this was another standalone game, it would get horrible reviews, but just because of all of the halo fanboys, it gets good reviews.

If you have friends that you can play the campaign with, it usually is more fun. Friends are the core of this game, if you don't have friends with Halo, don't get Halo, it is that simple. The game is also a ton of fun to play online...with friends. The community is made of bratty 12-year-olds that think they're tough $h1t. If you have friends to play with, I'd recommend keeping them. The real problem with this game is that it doesn't have the same feeling as the original Halo and instead feels more like Resistance rather than its awesome, awesome original game. Too bad, too, because that would've made it awesome. Expand

Gameplay is immensely improved, even if you just account for the fact that the horrible 'white and black' anomalies are off the Xbox controller. The gameplay is simple, yet complete. Dynamic, but only confusing for toddlers. Its got several modes of play, massive replay value. For coop, aswell as multiplayer. There's hundreds upon hundreds of hours of gameplay. Skill plays a huge part in this game, not simply experience with the gameplay mechanics. If you're an FPS player, this is pickup and play. Unlike games such as Gears of War, its not necessary to make a vow of solitude to learn to play. Not much more to be said. This game is a 'hall of famer' for sure. Expand

I'm giving it a 7 because the Multiplayer's good. Campaign was absolute crap compared to the other two games; I mean, come on. ODST was better. Sure, the AI is good (unlike some games, it's actually dynamic and can react according to different situations, try watching it sometime), but the story lets it down and makes the campaign feel terrible. Ending was alright, but I'm giving it a 7 because the Multiplayer's good. Campaign was absolute crap compared to the other two games; I mean, come on. ODST was better. Sure, the AI is good (unlike some games, it's actually dynamic and can react according to different situations, try watching it sometime), but the story lets it down and makes the campaign feel terrible. Ending was alright, but still recognisable as a rehash of Halo 1 that was less enjoyable to do. Multiplayer's solid, it works well, and it's not unbalanced if you play normal MM. That's the reason I enjoy it - I can stop playing for 4 months, go back to it and there'll still be people at my level. it's not like CoD where if you buy the game two weeks late everyone's prestiged and you do nothing but die, which in itself makes it much more fun. What else... Graphics were good for its time, especially on a custom engine, but could do with some AA and decent reflections. Story sucked but made sense in that they had a limited timeframe to do it and cut quite a lot of stuff...yeah. Overall a decent game with strong MM but a very lacking campaign. Best part is probably the fact that there's always someone in MM at your level, so it doesn't matter whether you picked up the game on day one like me or the 2 year anniversary - there's still 500,000 people evenly matched for you to play. That alone is one of the reasons it's so popular and why I like it. Expand

His second complaint was that the multiplayer was too similar to Halo 2's multiplayer, which is funny to me because one of the single largest complaints in the Bungie community is regarding how DIFFERENT Halo 3's multiplayer is from Halo 2's. Certainly, they are based on the same premises and rules. However, the subtleties and dynamics have been altered dramatically. He references the sudden appearance of powerups, which have actually be a Halo staple since Halo: CE, which, if you'll recall, is the very first Halo game. That right there should be reason enough to have his comment removed and his vote disqualified. He obviously has no idea what game he's playing. As for adding Forge to Halo 2, it's not quite that simple. And it astounds me he didn't mention the theater mode, which is a milemarker in game development. I've also seen no mention of the depth to which the game is integrated with Bungie.Net. The bottom line is that I'm still playing this game almost daily two years after its launch. So are almost 1 million other gamers. That very fact that proves the longevity and replayablility of this game warrants a 9, in my opinion. The game isn't perfect, but it does what it does very well. I prefer it over the other two of the top three shooters because you can take a hit from most of the weapons and not die before it's physically possible to react, and it doesn't have a boring color scheme. Adding all those options to the gametype editing was a good choice, too. So that if we want to play a team game with some of our friends, we can maybe increase the speed and lower the gravity and jump across the map, or turn off friendly fire, and having regenerating grenades and spawn with random weapons. Halo is and always has been an overrated game. What made Halo so popular is that it was the first PC FPS to be successfully done on a console. PC gamers had seen it done before and better, but to console gamers, it was a whole new thing. Let me put it this way. If it had been made for PC as originally intended, it would have been written off as an acceptable attempt at being Quake. Halo is and always has been an overrated game. Let me put it this way. If it had been made for PC as originally intended, it would have been written off as an acceptable attempt at being Quake. However, because it did nothing new in a new territory, it became an adored icon of mediocrity. So, here we are, two agonizingly bland sequels later. Now, as I have said, Halo is average, so you'd assume I'd give it a 5/10. Yeah, that's what I'd give the first one. But it goes repeating itself in a very stuck up manner, making me resent it more and more every sequel. Halo 3 did nothing new for the 3rd time. It has got to stop doing this. The story is still terrible, the bright design and squeaky midgets completely undermine the story's alleged "war", and Master Chief still moves patience-testingly slowly. There are two things that keep this game above a zero, though, and these are them. 1. Some serious genius thinking went into hyping the game up, though that was really the only genius thinking that can be associated with Halo. 2. The multiplayer did prove itself amusing when we were at our friend's house playing it on his 52 inch HDTV (while his copy of Left 4 Dead was too broken to provide us with our usual entertainment). This game deserves a solid 9. The multi-player, while lacking the strategy of a Tom Clancy title or the cover system of GOW, still stands above the competition. I rate this game 7, I rate 5 for The Single-Player which is full of action and very fun. I give the multiplayer 2, because sometimes, Playing with new people is very easy and playing with pros is very hard, there is no "good middle" and most people have the tendency of quitting the game too early, so it makes the game un-balanced.

The campaign wasn't amazing but it was decent and quite fun to play through in co-op. While the single player is probably only worth a 7 alone, the multiplayer more than made up for it. I'd played it that much that other games never got a look in at the time. Looking forward to ODST now.

Some reviews are so incredibly sickening they made my head want to explode. This is a sci-fi game! don't mark it down for having science-fictiony weapons. People have marked it down for not being realistic or having sticky grenades. I don't like to use vulgar language, but that is fucking absurd!!! Do you mark down crackdown for being too powerful, NO, because your a f*cking superhuman crime fighter. I love this game because it is loaded with content (has a shitload of fan created content), has new features, a great multiplayer community greatly supported by Bungie showing that they really love their product, stunning graphics, great story, and a bloody masterful soundtrack. It is not fair to say it's cover system is bad because ITS NOT A FUCKING COVER SHOOTER!!!!. Many reviews mark it purely for being overhyped. That is a horrible basis on which to write a review, because a game can still be good even if it was hyped too much which I don't think it was. If on COD I run around w/o talking to my team it makes little difference but on halo it will ensure you fall behind (unless in FFA). The MP is awesome. The maps are large, but badly designed. The engine does them a lot of favours because the environments look great with blowing wind and dust and visibility varies in locations, which is all great. But moving around the maps is very boring and straightforward. There aren't really alternate routes - like players had with movement in CoD4, going over walls, or through crawlspaces. The single player is largely an exercise in patience - fighting the same footsoldiers over and over again, and using the same basic weapons with the same problems (only sniper rifle benefitting from you aiming carefully with it). The cover system is implemented reasonably well - but it is a bit too clunky. Also - the cover system does not apply in multiplayer - so it doesn't matter if it's well done if it's absent. This game doesn't know what it wants to be. Gunplay is worse than CoD4 (a LOT worse) - ranking up wasn't implemented correctly (in a lot of cases in CoD4 you got the best guns at lower classes - mp5, ak47 from start etc), and unlocked cool features that kept the game interesting as you ranked up. In KZ2, you start with crap guns you won't go back to after you rank up, if you bother to stick with the game. I feel like I've wasted my money on this game - it was totally overhyped, and it's inferior to titles from last year. Also, the storyline is terrible, the settings for levels very repetitive, the range of game modes in MP is fine but none of them are fun - none are fast and furious, you'll do well by strategic camping - if you're good enough to play a game that rewards reactions and accuracy, you'll get penalised for that in this game. It's the Xbox360's Killzone - a dumbed down lowest common denominator shooter - but with a lot less variety in terms of weapons, a lot less speed in terms of gameplay, no local multiplayer on split screen. Aside from the single player, which is bad, the multiplayer is great. The only problem with the multiplayer is the fact that many people in the Halo community are immature jerks who enjoy making other peoples' game experience unenjoyable. The rest of the multiplayer is flawless. Controls and weapon systems are top notch, and battles are exciting. The gameplay requires a huge amount of skill, at least compared to most FPS's. I've played many of the FPS's that people always say are more skillful than Halo (Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament III, Team Fortress 2, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty Games, and a few older FPS's.) and Halo beats many of these by a large margin. (From a skill perspective). I usually do well in matches and am considered and consider myself (atleast when I was good at Halo a while ago, before I started playing Fallout 3) a good Halo 3 player and I still run into many people who could easily destroy me. Overall, Halo 3 has a very lackluster storyline with an amazing multiplayer, but if you're looking for a compelling single player, try Half-Life 2 or Bioshock. Expand

Add the fact that they all started off at the price of 800 Microsoft points, and you've reached fanboy central if you buy all of them. All in all, Halo 3 would have been a good game, if it wasn't for an awfully short campaign, awful custom maps and expensive and mainly crap maps, and you've got a dissapointing end to a great series. This game makes absolutly no breakthroughs, or represents anything special. Its just a insanly boring FPS with the worst storyline ever conducted, which is comparable to any generic alien vs. human genre type. The multiplayer is good. But other than that, it blows. And melee sucks too. In Combat: Evolved, if you meleed and were too far away, you were fucked. Now, the player lunges like he has a plasma sword. They took every mechanic that made the original addicting and endlessly playable and made it lackluster. Also, the maps suck. no WIDE OPEN like Blood Gulch or Sidewinder for vehicles. The maps just don't flow like the ones in the original. Overall, the two sequels were enormous let-downs, and I hope that ODST and whatever else Bungie has up its sleeves don't follow this trend. What can you expect from a developer that has been producing multiplayer blockbusters? The gameplay is less than "stellar." It's an unrealistic shooter with incredibly unrealistic physics. It's just another FPS. This is not as good as it's hyped to be. Even the multiplayer is lacking. Sure, joining a server is easy and there's practically no lag whatsoever, but you'll constantly see your favorite maps being voted out, there is no teamwork whatsover (I know people who TK in order to get the flag and the point), and firefights are chaotic and pointless. There is not strategy involved because the maps are linear. Voice acting is pretty good though. The music is not epic. All the plasma guns sound the same. The graphics are not next-gen. If you claim that this is so, you are a very ignorant gamer who shouldn't even be called a "gamer." Jumbo-sized pixels mar the textures on EVERYTHING and they STILL haven't fixed the darn faces! The cutscenes look pretty good, but can't compare to Blizzard/Square Enix stuff. This game will last a long time...if you can stand the grossly immature kids that haunt every server. Halo 3 sees the worst of this, simply because all the dumb 8-year olds are led to believe that this is the most fun FPS ever, and it's so hyped, even preschoolers have heard of it. Local multiplayer is the most rewarding due to this and innumerable players who brag about their phalluses of gigantic proportions or who play 23 hours a day and call others "noobs" for having lives and doing something productive. This game does not deserve a 0, but it also definitely does not deserve a 10. Generic "newbie" FPS gameplay with a less-than-memorable storyline, pretty bad sounds, mediocre multiplayer, and laughable graphics make this game one of the worst 360 games released. 1. It's the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs, legs that will probably keep you running at full speed until Bungie figures out where, exactly, to go from here.
  2. Halo 3 is the best Xbox 360 game to date. The single-player campaign and storyline are both very strong, but it's Forge and the Saved Films features that will likely go down in history as Bungie's crowning achievements. They've basically taken everything great about the series and improved upon it in every way, then added some amazing new features that we'll be using for years to come.
  3. 100
It's solid gameplay, immense replayability, online functionality and incredible production values will ensure its place in video game history, and it is, without a doubt, a satisfying and fulfilling close to the beloved trilogy[?].
