The amount of 10s being thrown around here and then the comments saying "this particular aspect wasn't very good but the mulitplayer PWNS LOL" is ridiculous and these people need to learn how the "out of 10" rating system works. A 10 means perfect, untouchable, no possible faults, hence why only a few games in history deserve this particular title (Super Mario World for instance). Halo 3 is not one of them.
Don't get me wrong, yes multiplayer is fun, (I particularly enjoy jugurnaught vs cars) but that does not excuse the weak storyline, serious lack of graphical inovation and general average-ness of the game.
It's not bad... It's just not amazing

while not as historically important as halo combat evolved the fact remains that halo 3 is one of the best fps games of all time. the single player is admitatly short its the best of the series so far. and the multiplayer is the best on 360. halo 3 can stand side by side with the best fps of this and any generation long live halo 3

Great game. However, the npcs can never understand priorities. For instance, I was driving around a warthog, and all of a sudden I came across a wraith. Normally, the wraith would be the first to go, but the npc was more interested in shooting nearby butterflies. So i tried to let the npc drive. didn't go over so well, considering he was more interested in driving into nearby rocks Great game. However, the npcs can never understand priorities. Metacritic, if you could please allow my comment below this side note parapgrah to be added, I would highly appreciate it. I do not seek to cause tension between fans of Halo and fans of COD. But I feel I deserve the right to mention what I have stated below, and know that I do not only speak for myself
    ---------------FOR METACRITIC (ERASE)--------------

CALL OF DUTY 4 fans: I have played Call of Duty 4. It is a great game, and has both its advantages and disadvantages over other shooters (like Halo 3). But the fact that so many "anti-halo" fans are posting weak comments about COD's dominance over Halo 3, is unethical. This section is to rank Halo 3, not for COD Fanboys to share the obsessions about COD dominating Halo 3. I take no side between the two games. They are both great. But please save the COD talk for the COD section. And Halo fans, keep the Halo talk here.

Though amazing in so many ways, Halo 3 is not without its flaws. The campaign mode was well concieved and the game's story constantly left me in both suspense & wonder. The campaign, however, was far too short. This is the greatest flaw of Halo 3. Minor technical issues were noted here and there, and the marines AI definently has its problems. The marines seemed to do well in combat, but when operating vehicles, repeatedly running into tree's were quite common. All in all, Halo 3 is among my favorite titles of all time. Some of the level design is terribly unintuitive, specifically the Cortana level. I found myself getting lost in several rooms and wandered around aimlessly for several minutes before I found out where I was supposed to be going.
The difficulty curve also varies drastically throughout the game. At some points near the beginning I died many times before I could move onto the next area. But as I progressed, it became increasingly easier to a point where it was too easy. The Flood only take 2-3 bashes to kill with just about any weapon. The "boss" fights are complete jokes, and the game ends with the easiest sequence in a game that I've ever played.

And as for the online multiplayer, I don't care about it. I don't play games online save for RTS games so I can't say if it's good or bad. But with what I have played, the game is decent. There are plenty of better FPS games out there that you can play. If you need to know how the story ends and you hate reading, play the game, otherwise read a plot synopsis and save yourself $60.

The campaign may not be amazing but that is because the bungie team was focusing on multiplayer... The game had okay graphics, great gameplay, not too great of a storyline, but good multiplayer. I personally like gears much more and think this game is hyped when it really shouldn't be. Expand

Multilayer leaves a lot to be desired. Not many maps, gets very repetitive. For some reason the buttons have changed around from Halo 2. No real new features to speak of. Lets hope Bungie puts more time into the Halo 4 multilayer. The story mode however is very good.

While still being interesting and fun you can't help but expect more from the series, especially in its final chapter. Needed more new aspects, Halo hasn't changed much from Halo 1 other than its graphics. Truly surprised to see the constant barrage of 100s its gotten.

On its own it is an acceptable game. Compared to Crysis, Orange box, Call of duty 4, it sucks. That is, the multiplayer. The singleplayer is much worse. If you are buying it for the multiplayer you might as well get COD4, Team fortress 2, or others. If you are getting it expecting a good singleplayer you must be drunk so it is possible you might enjoy it.

Halo is one of the greatest series, and the third one was my personal favorite, the ending was very nice. The single player was on the shorter end (but the story in each game has never been that long) great graphics, and new Online co-op mode! and the ability to save fotage and edit them, as well as a custom map editior is icing on the cake. My favorite Xbox 360 game of 2007.. be real you should have your own expectations for a game.. and this game suited my expectations.. they did the marketing to sell, to hype you.. i was not fooled.. no game could ever live up to that hype.. It was yet another Bungie Masterpeice Bravo to them.. they are rolling around in money :P

However, this is a Halo game; it's the multiplayer that counts. Bungie has successfully added new elements to the online experience without ruining the Halo experience. Weapons are still pretty well balanced, and the majority of levels flow great (except a few badly designed ones... looking at you Snowbound) and each have a myriad of interesting strategies. The hype probably harmed Halo 3 more than anything else: it raised the expectations of some people far too high. The campaign The hype probably harmed Halo 3 more than anything else: it raised the expectations of some people far too high. But take away the fact that it was probably a tad overhyped, the fact that everyone said that it was the best thing since sliced bread, and what's left is a very polished shooter with a lot of replayability and a package more than worth it's asking price. The campaign is short, but sweet. If it still seems far too brief, there are still many things to do within the realm of single player: you can finish it on it's hardest difficulty (though uncreative) you can run around collecting "skulls" (objects that alter the gameplay, sometimes drastically) and scoring points in the Metascore system. The storyline is fantastic: it's well written and does not lack depth. The concept of aliens vs humans and 8-foot tall supersoldiers may be overdone, but the depth comes from the small bits of clues, hints and stories which may not be noticed the first time playing. The best way to experience the storyline's depth is, of course, to play the first two games, read up, and look for the in-game Terminals (yet another thing you can do alone). The gameplay is unmistakably Halo; very smooth, very fluid. Some may argue that it is too similar to the first two games, but they all have the name "Halo" in it; it would be surprising to see anything that severely changes the game style. The logic is simple, if you want more Halo, buy Halo 3. Aren't all shooters about, well, shooting things? It's online integration is second to none: you can play the campaign co-op online with three friends. It's more fun than it sounds. The multiplayer mode is far improved. I would say some of the maps need work but it grows on you. With new weapons and changes, it's easier for the layman to pick up the game and play, yet not taking away form the skill factor (less aim magnetism). The weapons are fun, and the vehicles have the normal, unique feel to them. The Theatre even allows you to watch yourself annihilate your friends over and over again. From 360 different angles. And then there's Forge. A map editor in a console game, enough said. With excellent downloadable content on it's way, why NOT buy Halo 3? A lot of people say that the multiplayer is the worst of the series. Yet there are more people playing Halo 3 online than at Halo 2's peak (taking into account the larger amount of Live users). Numbers don't lie. In my opinion, the internet brings out the worst in some: COD 4 and others hardly add anything new to the genre. But this is Halo 3; nothing new, still the same old Halo that millions of fans adore, but incredibly polished to a shiny glow, with very few real flaws. And with loads of nifty new features. Expand

Halo 3 is a sequel. If you were expecting a completely new game then you are lacking in intelligence. Halo 3 does exactly what you expect from a sequel, it improves upon the formula and adds new stuff. What makes Halo 3 so good is it's action. No other shooting game does it better in my opinion and I've been playing them for years. Bioshock, The Orange Box and COD4 are all Halo 3 is a sequel. What makes Halo 3 so good is it's action. No other shooting game does it better in my opinion and I've been playing them for years. Bioshock, The Orange Box and COD4 are all excellent games for different reasons but Halo 3 just nails the formula of guns, grenades and melee. The gameplay is action packed and the online play will get your adrenaline pumping like you wouldn't believe. There's nothing like scoring a triple kill and then getting all tense and excited as you desperately try to find that overkill in time, or making a comeback from 20 points behind to take the game by one point. The multiplayer is absolutely phenomenal, it is super exciting and at times even hilarious. However, It can be very frustrating and, at times, very unforgiving but that is no fault of the game, though it is easier to blame it. The campaign is Halo 3's weakest link, it is great and is fantastic in 4 player online co op (if you've got a good internet connection) but it is graphically disappointing. The cutscenes are quite ugly and the second to last level is just awful. The game keeps a solid framerate throughout though, so it is to be commended for that. The story is terrific and the game does a good job of finishing the trilogy, whilst leaving the door open for possible expansion. Also, the music and sound effects are outstanding, the attention to detail is astonishing. The two newest additions are the Forge and Theatre modes and I could go on for hours about how ridiculously awesome they are, they do an absolutely fantastic job of adding more value to this incredible package and make for a refreshing break from all the action. All in all, if you are looking for a social gaming experience, you cannot go wrong with Halo 3 as everything about it has more than one person in mind, if you are looking for an incredible, competetitive online mode then no other game does it better, but if you are looking for a deep and involving single player experience then you would be better off with something like BioShock. Not to mention the fact that you have this amazing armor and ability to jump 10 ft. in the air and itl takes a whole clip or two clips to kill someone.
Ok so with that out of the way maybe you like what they call oldcore fps. The other problem i have is the AI of the humans, not the aliens just the humans. There are times where you have to drive bc the AI simply cant, they'll get the vechile stuck or simply take forever. The other problem is that ill take time to sneak up on a tank, and their is no way i was spotted and out of no where they turn 180 degrees and start shooting me, Radar? i dont know there are my other teammates in front of the tank. On the other hand if you have any teammate aliens on your team they hold there own and you'll be thankful come to reload time that they are there.
So the pros, great looking game with some very cool moments and of coarse not that it needs to be mention but great multiplayer.
I love halo 3 but not the best game of all time, personalty im getting a little tired of the oldcore fps, taking cover or being killed after 5 shots is way more realistic and serves for greater game play.

Very strong multiplayer game with awesome game types and a whole new editing mode called forge. Hours of fun for xbox live gold members. However, the single player just doesn't deliver and I found myself playing the career mode purely for achievements. Good game, a must buy for online gamers.

I am overwhelmed with the level of amazement I have acheived from this game. Online gaming, Campaign, Forge, and Theater!!! Literally hours, days, months, and years worth of content and fun. If you are disappointed with this game, I challenge you to go back and REALLY explore the seemingly endless options for entertainment that this installment of Halo offers.

For being the most hyped up game ever, Halo 3 didn't deliver as much as everybody hoped. It has a few new weapons and vehicales, but they aren't that great. Also, I felt the story was going to be better than the first two, but except for a few moments it was quite dull. The reason this game is the best is not because of the single player. Brilliant game. Amazing campaign and highly addictuve multiplayer. New weapons and vehicles keep it fresh. Drawbacks are forge is hard to control and the level Cortana is for lack of a better word rubbish.

Talk about over-hyped and under-delivered. I am giving it a 0 basically because I bought into all of the hype (my fault really), and expected something much more engaging, immersive, and engrossing than I ended up with. The story is trite. The AI is non-existent. The levels are uninspired. The multiplayer may be its only redeeming quality, but even that is so limiting in terms of Talk about over-hyped and under-delivered. For an individual who has not played either Halo 1 or 2 at length, this game was absolutely awesome! However, the single-player campaign was much too short, which is the only reason why I did not give Halo 3 a 10/10.

This Game was a major disappointment..! Don't get me wrong I was a huge fan of 1 and 2....but halo 3 didn't bring anything new to the table. A few new features, but not worth all the hype. This game seemed very repetitious...NOT A MUST HAVE!!

I saved up for months to buy XBOX 360 for one reason--Halo 3, and boy am I disappointed. The game is just extremely boring. It's seems it was just thrown together to make money. There was really no new characters or weapons, just modified old stuff. If you love Halo like me, then of course you have to beat it, but don't expect much. P.S. What happened to the Halo 1 pistol?? Best part!!

Great. You will replay the campaign a lot of times with your friends (LIVE or Split Screen), and after playing it a lot of times you will still think it's great! Multiplayer is awesome: lots of game modes and great gameplay. BUY IT!

The online multi-player is highly addictive and is very fun, though the 4-player online co-op doesn't work as well as you may want it to. Forge is a neat idea, but won't hold your interest for very long, but the saved films feature is very good. But, the campaign mode is very disappointing, and leaves you hanging at the end.

I just wish that there was a space battle mission where you get to fly longswords/pelicans as you try to take down a covenant capital ship. The graphics are also great and it is good to see in the distance a battle going on. I would have gave this game a 10/10 except the medicore stortline lost me and the ability not to play as the arbiter was also a bummer. It is simply the best FPS I have ever played. Expand

Good game that's not even close to the hype that was generated around it, not even on the top 5 FPS of the year lists for people who enjoy the full genre, rather than blindly following one title.

Game is boring, mundane, and short as heck. The game is half decent. Now its by no means bad, its average, run of the mill, boiler plate. Hell its not as bad as bioshock, its made me look back on it and cherish it. So really halo 3 is what it took me to lower my standards.

Boris nailed it. Not bad just boring. No great inovation here just a rehash of H2. I hate the mucky feeling of moving around. It feels like you are moving in slow motion. I was really disapointed in the single player. It felt like the ending was really rushed and looked like crap. A run of the mill shooter inferior to just about any full priced FPS that has come out on the PC over the last 3 years. An extremely average game that while not horrible to play offers nothing of interest to anyone but FPS fans with a spare afternoon. The singleplayer is very short (5-6 hours) and the multiplayer lacks cohesion and excitement.

Good campaign, with metagame and 4-player online co-op giving it high longevity and replayability. Amazing mulitplayer with extras like the Forge map editor. Insane online stat-tracking. My only concern is the small number of multiplayer maps which will be remedied soon with the first of what will certainly be many map pack releases.

WHAT FIGHT DID WE FINISH yes we killed the covernat around earth but what about everywhere else and not to mention the earth and all the rings on stanby still this game still leaves a lot of loose ends and it finishes on another cliff hanger with masterchief and cortana alone in space adrift if there isnt a halo 4 i will be very disapointed with bungie after all the idea of a triogy is to finish the story in 3 releases which hasnt occured here.. 1. It's the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs, legs that will probably keep you running at full speed until Bungie figures out where, exactly, to go from here.
  2. Halo 3 is the best Xbox 360 game to date. The single-player campaign and storyline are both very strong, but it's Forge and the Saved Films features that will likely go down in history as Bungie's crowning achievements. They've basically taken everything great about the series and improved upon it in every way, then added some amazing new features that we'll be using for years to come.
  3. 100
It's solid gameplay, immense replayability, online functionality and incredible production values will ensure its place in video game history, and it is, without a doubt, a satisfying and fulfilling close to the beloved trilogy[?].
