Modern warfare 3 is the follow up one would expect to the tremendously successful modern warfare renditions of call of duty, which have truly taken on a life of their own. I'm compelled to write a review, having played through the game entire, and put in hours on multiplayer as well, in response to the incredibly ridiculous zeros and ones given the game by thousands of people. a zero or a one could and should only go to a game so bad and broken so as to be unplayable, and modern warfare 3 is none of these things. the campaign is relatively brief at about 5 hours, but the story is good closure to the first 2 modern warfare games, and the action set pieces are quite spectacular. spec ops is a great nugget based form of co op, and the multiplayer is similar to previous modern warfare games but a highly refined form of them with much improved killstreak reward setups. Is there a certain amount of familiarity within the game to previous cod? well of course. Should this be a surprise? Every sequel to every highly successful game I have played sticks very close to the winning formula that made it a success in the first place. and this is true not only in the world of interactive entertainment, but movies as well. and yet you don't find the kind of hostility toward gears of war, god of war, grand theft auto, halo, etc etc that you find against the cod games. Most likely this has to do with the shameless yearly franchising of the series, only a step above the saturation activision gave the world with the guitar hero debacle. But from a business standpoint, who could blame activision for wanting to make a billion dollars every year? In closure, if you have played one of the previous modern warfare games, don't expect this one to reinvent the wheel. However, if you enjoy fun, balanced multiplayer action, and like first person shooters, there is really no reason you won't enjoy this game. Expand

Is this the same MW as always? Yep. Is it bad? Not by a long shot. I agree that not much has changed in the way of mechanics, or with the multiplayer leveling system itself. But if it's not broke, don't fix it! If they had changed the mechanics completely, everyone would have cried foul anyway! We are a society of complainers who wants everything perfect, but if you take that emotion out of it and see it for what it is, it's still a dang good game. The campaign had moments that make you sit with your mouth hanging open and didn't realize it until that moment was over. The story, same as always, is a bit forgettable, as is with ALL war games. Shoot this, blow up that, you forget why after a while. But what's important is, after a while, who cares? It looks so cool to blow stuff up! And MW3 does that beautifully. So to sum it up, this is a good game. Not perfect, but really good. And here is something shocking for you to think about...what if we could like BOTH MW3 and Battlefield?! Wow, what a world; two different games, different stories, different mechanics, so why judge them as if they are the same? You are not forced to choose (like with a wireless carrier ;) . The issues with MW3 come in multiplayer. It's laggy and, as you can see from other reviews, it is so so so much like MW2. Very little has changed. Some perks have been replaced but the replacements are the same thing in the end. The maps are ridiculously like the MW2 maps. In fact you will have no problem recognizing every map and where it comes from in MW2. Titles, emblems, etc just aren't exciting anymore.

Is this game worth the money? You 'll probably be more entertained by other titles this year (Skyrim, for example) and you'll probably play BattleField 3 a little longer (but that game is frustrating in its own ways as well). If you have the money to spare then get MW3 because it does have memorable moments but only if you have the money to spare...

The missions are better and survival mode is pretty much COD's Horde mode, which is fun, although, it gets boring after awhile. They also refined the multiplayer aspect of the game and made it more diverse. I like what they did with the multiplayer of MW3. Although all these things dont make up for the fact that they have used the same gameplay since COD4. TBH, its starting to get old. IW may have just gone by with this game, but if they dont change gameplay or the engine soon, more complaints and loss of fan base will occur. I dont plan on buying next years COD bc i know Treyarch will not change this formula. IW needs to do something innovating on there next alliteration, bc theres been a lack of innovation for the past 3 or 4 COD games. So going back to MW3. I like the game, personally, but what I don't get is why everyone gives it low scores.you're supposed to rate a game based on what you like, not what you hate, and only the most buggy and incomplete games deserve anything close to a zero rating. Yes, there isn't innovation, but if the system works then there shouldn't be. The saying that if it ain't broke don't fix it applies here.

This game is the best yet in the series, very thought full of the player and loads features and good maps. weapons are great and i'm hooked. It also gives people who arn't as good the chance to earn good points with different strike packs. ive always preferred the infinity ward call of duties anyway but i still played the all the others.

BF3 provides huge maps and more tactical, methodical gameplay. MW3 is a run-and-gun, encounter-heavy shooter, with a smaller strategic empasis. You can like both games people. I do. I simply like them for different reasons. Now for my actual review. Obviously, MW3 is largely a rehash of MW2. Graphically, it is NOT an improvement. The fundamental gameplay is identical. The mission selection, however, is more varied than MW2, which was a welcome surprise. The campaign is still too short. But that is from the perspective of someone who values the campaign just as much as the multiplayer. Most players buy the game for the multiplayer, and view the campaign as a bonus. In that sense, a 6 hour campaign is respectable. The story is still generic. It's more over-the-top action. Many people complain about this, but the fact is that most video games appeal to our sense of wanting to live out a fantasy vicariously from our couch. The campaign is no different from any other game in that respect. But the biggest reason I can give a 9 out of 10 to this 3rd installment in the seemingly stale CoD franchise and still look at myself in the mirror is a factor that I think most "professional" reviewers overlook. I call this the Fun Factor. At the end of the day, MW3 is still a lot of fun to play. The reason that you don't see innovation on a grand scale is because such innovation is NOT NECESSARY. Just look at the sales figures and tell me if you would change the CoD formula if you were Infinity Ward or Activision. No you would not. And no, not only 12 year-olds buy this game. I am a 27 year-old history teacher with a beautiful wife and daughter, and I bought the game and enjoy it for what it is. If you are a BF3 player who is a MW3 hater or vice versa, please remember that these are both amazing games with DIFFERENT things to offer. You should enjoy the fact that so many developers turn out such beautiful products regularly. This competition is what drives these developers to give us such great games. So enjoy it! Expand

But there is one thing that every Call of Duty game is as well: fun. When you buy a Call of Duty game, you know you are going to have fun whenever you play it, and that is exactly what you get with MW3. I believe this is a great game, but not the same kind of great when I bought my first Call Of Duty, COD 4. I got it right before MW2, so I didn't put so much time into it until months after I got MW2. But COD 4 got me used to Call Of Duty. I wasn't so competitve during COD 4 or MW2, I mainly had fun and just messed around. But then Black Ops came out and I waited for Midnight Release. I swear everyday after school I would come home and play it, and I was extremely competive. (K/D and winloss) During the summer I hit 15th prestige and anxiously awaited MW3. Truth is, I have no motivation to play this game. I like to win, but why be so competitive that when the next game comes out no one cares about the last one. So basically, the multiplayer is the same thing that brought me into MW3, while attracting new people. The campaign story is great, but ending is sorta dissapointment. It's like going to see thelatest Harry Potter or Twilight movie, same characters, same setting, same general direction and outcome, but I don't hear people complaining that those movies are all alike. Either a lot of people who make these points haven't bought the game, or have bought it thinking thye were going to get something totally new and unique (who would be that stupid, really? These are the same complaints people had with Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, you'd think people would have learned by now)

I love this game, I really do, sure I bought it out of peer pressure because all my Black Ops playing buddies were buying it, but I don't care, I'm having so much fun playing with them in the awesome multiplayer modes. A lot of people are dissing the gameplay and blaming it on an engine from 1999, sure they used a heavily modified engine from 1999 for their 2005 game Call of Duty 2, but since then it's went through many more iterations, Modern Warfare 2 used IW4.0 engine and this one is using IW 5.0, cleverly titled as MW3 Engine, so to say it runs an outdated engine from 1999 is the absolute height of ignorance, and frankly I'm just dissappointed in anyone who uses this as a critical point.

As for the single player, it does leave something to be desired, I found it to be fun, while a little controlling in direction and linearity this is sadly unavoidable as it needs to be like this to keep the fast paced feel of urgency going in the story, you never stop moving, your adrenaline is always pumping and there's never much time to rest, some poeple like that and some people don't, I enjoy it but It's not a huge selling point.

Another great game in another great franchise of games from one of the best publishers around, yes they're evil, yes Bobby Kotick is satan in a suit, but damn this is one hell of a fun game, and I will be playing it a lot over the next year.

So they have balanced that out now so killstreaks don't ruin matches. They have also given all the run and gunners the support streaks which I think is a good idea. My only problem with the game is the whole lag compensation thing. I often find myself hosting games and if I play late night then the Americans get such a huge advantage over me. I can run round the corner and shoot twice but when I look at the killcam I haven't fired once. I haven't played the campaign myself but I have heard it is too easy. Call of duty began it's life as a single player action game and has never disappointed since, the story of MW3 is a direct continuation of 2 previous modern warfare titles and like a series of good books it keeps you interested and wanting to know what happens next. The gameplay feels a lot like a movie than a war simulator and I believe it is for the better because when it boils down the experience I would much rather jump into the action guns blazing than sit in a fox hole for hours stalking a target bored senseless, having said that at some points you are stuck following your "guide" which kinda takes away from what has been crafted. The ending is also rather predictable and disappointing seeing how this is the conclusion to the epic story.
I have seen a lot of people complain how the graphics have not changed since modern warfare 2 and my counter argument is do the graphics need to change? Modern Warfare 2 graphics were ahead of it's time as it is hold the strawberry jelly and look where it got the game, lax balancing and glitches through out have spoiled the experience for me personally. That is precisely why Infinity Ward was not going to make the same mistake twice, instead of the next next gen graphics crammed into aging consoles they have focused on the optimizations and post release bug-fixes which are being carried out outstandingly. Every new game will have glitches on release and with such a ridiculous audience every bug will be found and with a good support team they will not stay unpatched for long (don't forget IV has to jump through hoops to deploy patches on SONY and Microsoft consoles respectively).
And finally multiplayer, after several weeks of me owning and playing the game I have to say my ONLY gripe with this game is the lag, come on Infinity Ward (yes I'm talking to you) get some goddamn servers. Dedicated servers was one of the most requested features from modern warfare 2, it's nice how you tend to the bugs and glitches, but all of that means nothing if every time I join a game it feels like a rabid shotgun fest AND the killcams never match what I see, just saying. I would give this game 8/10 but there are alot of unfair reviews so I'll have to give it 9 just to offset the score :/

A very nice addition to the game is the custom games in private match with team Juggernaut and king of the Hill and of course infection, really with they made a playlist in multiplayer for this that doesnâ Expand

Although i can never HATE call of duty, and MW3's campaign and spec ops are really fun, multiplayer is disapointing. Its not bad or unplayable, not by a long shot but, its very bland. Always being at 60 FPS is nice, but it makes lag that much more noticeable. Not a bad game, just a little disapointing.

I was dissiapointed by the spec ops after all the hype it got and survival mode didn't prove to be anywhere near a Nazi Zombies replacement. As for weapons not much has changed except the machine pistols, sub machine guns, and a couple of riot shield additions. One addition I find VERY useful is the strike packages which is a game changer for multiplayer. If used effectively it can lead to a successful performance for you KD people. Lastly, is the story which proves to be awesome but is very predictable much like the ending and cutscenes. Expand

Along with Multiplayer comes cooperative Spec Ops. The traditional Missions return, offering a variety of challenges, and a new Survival mode has been added. Survival mode is incredibly addicting. You can order Predator missiles, buy new guns, and even call in AI controlled soldiers to help you out. Although sadly you may only have ONE friend play with you, which is a major letdown. And there of course is the campaign. I was throughly impressed with the MW2 story and looked forward to the sequel. The campaign started out strong, but then the story took a turn for the worse and became hugely disappointing in the end. I was heart broken for weeks. Over all Id say 2/3 of the game is fantastic, a great entry for the Call of Duty franchise. Expand

It's like the transformers of movies big , loud , awesome looking, but its not breaking any new ground. The campaign is good, but i wish it had coop campaign.
The multiplayer is pure gold, the best a call of duty has ever had.

If you own an Xbox360, or any other console, then it should be made a crime to not own MW3. It has an epic campaign, which is considered too short, but if they extended it, then it would be boring. The multiplayer is the best yet. Forget Battlefield, sales show MW3 is the remaining champion in gaming. Oorah.

Are you guys seriously this pissed off a game? I can't believe that after all the time you had to research this game some of you still bought it and are now complaining. I wouldn't mind if people didn't like this game but I can say that the ONLY reason people are this angry towards Infinity Ward is because of CoD: Black (crap) Ops. Treyarch provided "relief" to the FPS community that in my opinion was utter crap. Sure Modern Warfare 3 didn't push the limits but when you're trying to end a franchise there is little you can do. People complain at how the MW3 graphics look just like CoD4. Have you seen Crap Ops? It's horrendous. Even the cinematic scenes were so bad that i'd put it on par with PS2 games that had really nice graphics for it's time. MW3 at least had the decency to make smooth out the edges, the ambiance is the same sure but the character models are great to look at. I just wished they kept third-person so I could enjoy them.

As for multi-player, they fixed everything that the whiners back then were **** about and these babies still cry. It goes to show you that the FPS community has taken a lot of steps back since CoD4 and I still put the blame on Crap Ops. MW3 took out things gamers didn't like such as one man army and the strength of grenades. What did Craps Ops do? Put money in their multi-player and player cards. It is hilarious how Treyarch was "shocked" that players would make offensive images with the playercards. I wish I could believe they were oblivious but I think they were that dumb.

MW3 at least fixed that moronic idea of CoD bucks and made you level up your gun rather than having money. Having to manage your money and your XP was just dumb as hell. At least with the gun leveling system gamers could actually focus on gun challenges and get a rewards for doing so.

Another thing which isn't a fix but i'm happy they kept were gun physics. People say the gun physics are terrible and it sound effects are awful. Two things the sound was fixed to not give people with turtlebeaches an ungodly advantage over everyone else. And second the physics are as good as any FPS should be. In Crap Ops the bullets would literally go at the speed of light, sure bullets are fast but not to a point that it will hit someone instantly.

I read from a user about how this game didn't have zombies. I'm sorry if Infinity Ward doesn't like being a scam by ripping of another developers idea. Plus they revamped the Spec. Ops mode PLUS a survival mode. Like it or not I give IW a thunderous applause for at least trying something different which couldn't be said about the zombies in Crap Ops that only added more strange and annoying features to zombies, because I love some ghost stealing my crap or even zombie monkeys. Regardless zombies is far from any other zombie game. If you want to play a game about zombie then get a game about zombies. They're take is so bland with zombies just overrunning you. Nazi zombies stops being a fun game mode and turns into a game where you make a well-drawn out plan with no room for error that ends up in a botched attempt as you yell at the one guy who screwed up.

I could go on for ages but there's a character limit so i'll touch on my final point, single-player. Single player is amazing plain and simple. IW did a marvelous job in taking the story of CoD4 and linking it all together focusing on the face of evil, Makarov. Makarov is by far one of the greatest villians and even if you don't like the game or the story you could analyze Makarov by himself and say he was a BAMF. It definitely blew Crap Ops out of the water. What was the villian in that game? The stereotypical communist jerk-off who brainwashed people? Seriously brainwashing? That so cool that Treyarch implied that you were the shooter on the grassy knoll, oh come on! That is one of the dumbest ideas i've seen and that's just in the first game. I'm an atheist but I pray to god to make sure another abortion like the single-player of Craps Ops never appears again. In conclusion MW3 is a good game (not the greatest!) and only gets a 10 from me because some people are so sensitive like the little 12 year old kids they make fun of online and gave this game a zero for no legitimate reason other than their stubbornness. If Crap Ops had never existed and MW3 came out right off the bat you people would have loved this game. Maybe in a parallel universe Treyarch never existed and I count those people lucky and bless them and all the other people who take a stand against the mindless masses. If you want to fight about it then bring it on, and i'm not talking about internet fight. I want a real fight because if you're gonna talk this much trash then get ready to fight for what you believe in, but I guess you guys are cowards

I know it might be considered cheating in some peoples eyes but I only used it to get my 10 custom classes wich you didn't have to buy in blackops! Back to the matter at hand: I did get banned like I was saying but I also got deranked aswell I went from almost 9th prestige down to nothing or level 1 and 0 prestige! I lost all of my titles and embels that I had ganned and I also was stuck with 0 kills but 10000 deaths! I also was stuck after I got derancked with 0 wins but 1000 losses! I think this is way to horrible as a punishment for only using this glitch to get 10 custom classes! Not unlimited xp or unlocked everything, only to get 10 custom classes! Plus, if there banning me for doing this than everybody else that did is probably about to get screwed over aswell! About 50% of the people that I have ran into playing this game have done the glitch! 50% of the people that play this game! It might not be true but that is about what I have came up with for what I have seen so far. If they want to ban "about" 50% of the people that play this game, than thats there problem. Also, all the people that I have ran into that said they did this glitch have gone way overboard than me. Notice how I'm also saying GLITCH! Not a mod or a hack! I'm not boosting! Here's the definitions of a glitch: 1.A sudden, usually temporary malfunction or irregularity of equipment: "a computer glitch". 2.An unexpected setback in a plan; a hitch, a snag.

Notice how in the second definition it sais clearly," An UNEXPECTED setback." This glitch was unexpected! It was looked over when they were making this game! It's not my fault that Infinity Ward was probably slacking off when they were creating this part and they looked over it. I took advantage of their mistake! I didn't even use it that much either! I only used it to get 10 custom classes. Not double xp or the hardened or veteran package. I also didn't unlock any gear either! I only used 5 prestige tokens. I knew that if I over did it than I would probably have a chance of getting banned by these retards! I also kept my mouth shut about it aswell. They also could have patched the glitch aswell if they are getting this worried about it but no! Just ban and derank about 50% of the game or everyone that did it! Completely just lost a customer and I hope you loose every single person that plays this game! I hope you get such a crappy rating as what MW2 got and it looks like it already happend! The good thing about Treyarch is that instead of baning people they actualy put some work into the game and patch glitches! Worry about the booster and hackers before you worry about this crap! I was playing Free-for-All about 5 days before I got banned and I caught these three booster sitting in the back of the map with their tactical insersions just killing each other! The third person was guarding the cheesy booster not letting anyone get to them except for me who killed them onse! They still aren't banned! But they ban me for doing a simple glitch that I didn't even use that much of! Get your priorities straight before you get a bad rating! OH that's right , you already got a bad rating idiots! I will play blackops (a completely better game) and not touch your game once ever again! I hope people are with me and for all the haters! You have never got banned and don't know what it feels like to loose all your work that you just tried hard to get only because you did something small! If you read this whole message than I congradulate you for doing this. I shure wouldn't read this whole thing but I felt like it needed to get out there!

Graphics - Not one of the best first person shooter graphics I have seen, but it's still good to look at. The environments and character detail is good and I don't see a reason for a new graphics engine as of yet. It has the best graphics in the Call of Duty series. The graphics still could have been better and I don't see much difference compared to MW2's graphics. I felt that the developers came off kind of lazy. 90/100(A-)

Gameplay - AI is smart and dumb at times which is alright for catastrophe like World War 3, but playing on Hardened or Veteran difficulty is no joke. The game runs smoothly at 60 frames per second and it couldn't be any smoother. You have 4 modes to play within the game. There's Survival Mode which is in the Special Ops mode, Special Ops missions, Campaign and Multiplayer. The games has enough content to keep you going. 100/100(A+)

Multiplayer - The best multiplayer experience ever. It's good if your a team-oriented player or even a loner. It's for everyone because there's 3 different strike packages and one might be best for you. The perks are better, killstreaks are better and the gun selection is better. There's even theater mode to capture you match and you can upload 30 second clips to Facebook. I don't see why YouTube wasn't an option. I just wish there weren't so many modders and glitchers. I definitely wish there weren't so much campers. 90/100(A-)

Playing Time/Content: There's probably not a week that will go by when I won't play this game. Even if I have a really bad match with a very horrible score, I would still play again until I'm done prestiging. You have 4 modes to play within the game. To the people who think this is Modern Warfare 2.5 or the same thing over again, it's not. I bet the people complaining about it will still play it or be interested in it. It's part of a series, it's not suppose to change much.

    + Spec Ops Survival
    + A better balanced multiplayer
+ Works with Call of Duty Elite
    - Little to no graphical improvements

MW3 is very much the same as the first two, but if you enjoyed the last two then this game will be no different, although you should probably buy it used because like I said its pretty much the same as MW2, but the story is better than the first two, and the multilayer is more balanced but largely the same as the first two.

Not a 10 probably a 7 or 8 but just trying to balance out all the 0's given by people thinking they're cool because they hate cod and activision even though its quite a reasonable game and im guessing out of the 5,011 negative reviews probably 10 people have actually played it

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
