As soon as you get heat seekers things get a lot easier as well. The only thing that I don't like is that when placing c4 you have to put your nose right on whatever your trying to kill because you it seems like you throw C4 with your teeth. also Why does it take more then 2 c4 packages to kill a jeep if you place them on the ground??? As you can see I am nit picking here. I love this game and think its a great buy. SO go get it already. Expand

Woot planes trains and automobiles!!! Well, at least it has a couple of those. After buying MW3 and playing for hours I wanted to voice my opinion about how ripped off I felt. While these boys didn't deliver on the PC screenshots and vids they were showing at least it was all 100% effort given at trying to reinvent the wheel. And for that I'm hooking them up with a 10.

Neither seems to do much different from their predecessors, however isn't this what you would expect from a sequel?! My general conclusion over BF3 is that is has actually taken a step backward form BF2. Some serious updates are needed to sort out the clipping issues and a few other big flaws. The overall feel of the game is fun and the epic maps are entertaining but there is just a distinct lack of satisfaction throughout the game. This is without going into the general uselessness of the planes until you have levelled them up, or the torches on everyones gun that will blind you in broad daylight if the enemy so much as looks in your general direction. I will be prepared to resubmit my opinion on this game after a few updates but until then I'm going to have to stick with the highly polished, action packed fun I get from MW3 and GoW3. MW may be a re-bake of an existing recipe but if it isn't broken, don't fix it, and straight out the box both MW and GoW deliver on every level. Expand

SINGLE-PLAYER: Another military shooter where you stop W.M.D's, play from multiple perspectives, and shoot through pretty set pieces. Beautiful? Yes. Inspired? Not so much. (Install the H.D. pack or you won't want to...)

MULTIPLAYER: This year, your choice of shooter combat comes way from basically two perspectives which are akin to paintball. Without having to know much about the sport, most play the game in one of two modes: arena & scenario. Arena is like Call of Duty & Gears of War. You start in close proximity on generally small-scale maps with short engagement distances. The point is to memorize the nooks and crannies. "This person is likely to be at *this* spot *%* of the time." Its fast, its furious but unless you're playing with a clan or close group of friends, you're playing by yourself. There are other people in the game for sure! But they happen to be in the same room shooting at the same enemy. "Team," most of the time, is actually a naughty word... Battlefield 3 is like a scenario paintball game. Yes, you generally start in the same area but the multitude of ways you can move, flank, sneak, and wreak havoc erupts from there. You can go as a solo sniper to a secluded area, set up shop, and dial away noggins. You can fly/drive about the map (and doing it just right) never set a foot on land. Or you can be part of a real team. Even if you go 0-20, you could be in the top 5 without firing a shot because teamwork matters. That's what separates this game from others. In other games, a turret is taboo. Here, a turret lays down actual suppressive fire that blurs the enemies vision and even if you don't hit a single person, you rack up points for the dead men you've suppressed. SUMMARY: Don't get this game for the single-player: play an RPG. Don't get this game if you roll solo with the highest K/D ratio: get Gears or CoD. Buy this game if you want an excellent combat simulator that brings together squads the way military shooters really should. If you want to "play", play something else. Battlefield 3 is when you want to go to war.

9/10 - For excellent graphics, a robust multiplayer system, and bringing teamwork back.
    -1/10 - For lackluster single-player.

The single-player has been improved and the campaign makes a refreshing change after playing the Bad Company series, which I found quite cheesy and gimmicky, now it feels dynamic with impressive 'Call of Duty' style scripted set pieces. The co-op campaign is pretty good also, its different to the main campaign and takes roughly 6 hours to play through. The only bad thing I found about the co op was the helicopter mission. Helicopter piloting on Battlefield has always been hit and miss; it requires a huge amount of coordination and patience, it is also unintuitive and hard to learn. I have played the entire Battlefield series, and never have I felt the need to learn the fly the chopper. I have avoided it at all times. The second multi-player mission is based entirely around the chopper and unlike the spec ops mode in Call of Duty there is no way to select roles, the only way to switch from pilot to gunner is to repeatedly fail or crash on purpose. I could imagine a lot of players giving up at this point which is a shame. I found the multi-player in Bad Company 2 more enjoyable, which had better class balance. Recon (my favorite class) feels underpowered now, they have removed mortar strike, and increased bullet drop on sniper rifles (but guns from other kits have no bullet drop even at max range which means you can make a more effective sniping class from the assault or engineer class by equipping a 6 or 8x combat scope to your rifle/SMG as well as getting a superior load-out to recon). Unlocks are earned on weapons individually instead of on kits, which adds rewards to players who stick to a favorite gun, however casual players who trade up weapons every level will never see the majority of unlocks.
Graphically BF3 is way ahead of the competition. The single player graphics are awesome. The co-op and multi-player models & textures are also very good, however the draw distance could be a bit better, but overall looks great and lag free even on big maps with 20 players.
The sound is good (not quite as good as recent Call of Duty games) and sounds great in 5.1 surround with decent bass, however, menus and loading screens are punctuated with dubstep riffs which I didn't really like.
In terms of value I would say it is roughly the same as Bad Company 2, while you have a new co-op campaign you are now forced to register an online pass, (free at release) priced at 800 Microsoft points (£4.50) which is an unwanted expense for customers borrowing it off a friend or renting the game for the weekend. The store exclusive pre-order DLC content is also a pain in the ass. It's a good deal for stores wanting to shift extra units, but bad for consumers (I ended up buying the game at £44.99 from Gamestation purely for the pre-order DLC whereas the game was £38.99 from Amazon.co.uk with an inferior unlock) who want to access all the content.
The re-playability is OK, the weapon proficiencies, ribbons and awards, and the achievement for max multi-player level will keep completionists red eyed into 2012.

Whether I am playing alone or with friends, this game has killed time like no other. I've owned the game since its release and have barely noticed the days of playtime that I've already put into it. If you aren't use to FPS controls, they take some getting used to, but the control-design of everything from your soldier, to both air and land vehicles, and even to the way projectiles are affected by gravity are all superb - fluent and intuitive. Minor bugs have popped up here and there, though this is almost always the case with newly released online games and luckily none remotely game breaking (some being nothing but amusing); they are being dealt with and fixed anyway. Well let me first say that this game is a real big step up from Battlefield 2. The graphics, sound, and multiplayer are its strong suits. The only element of this game that feels out of place is the single player story. It feels like the single player and multiplayer are two different games with the same engine. Overall though this game will keep you coming back for more

There are a few minor cons, but it should not be hard to look past them and focus on the great things it does. For example, jets are extremely challenging to level up at first seeing as how all you have is a machine gun. However, once you can finally unlock the flares and then the missiles, you will be a force. The dog fights are intense! The maps are great in this game as well. They remind me of the old CoD4's maps only much larger. Rush Mode is the best game mode. It requires squads to coordinate attacks in order to win. You must plant bombs to blow up M-COM stations if you are attacking, and you defend them if you are defending. Conquest is another great game mode. In this mode you have to control certain areas in order to win. It's similar to a Domination type game. Team Deathmatch is also in this game as well. The Single Player is not the best, but its bearable. The graphics and set pieces are great in this game. The live action events are annoying, but they make sense for the plot. If you are a veteran of CoD and are looking for another war game to play on the side or to take over your love of CoD, this game is a much more suitable substitution than games such as Homefront or Mag.e Expand

Single Player was average at best and even though it did capture the essence of the battlefield, it did not deliver on story telling and making the player feel emotionally attatched to the characters. While playing it though I did not get bored and it definately was not a bad campaign and well worth playing, but dont expect it to live up to all the hype it does in the trailers. DICE focused soley on the multiplayer aspect of this game and it definately shows, with months of unlocks it is definatley worth investing time into this game. You will always feel like your'e progressing even though you're not killing someone, and there is so much you can do to help you're team such as healing teamates, reparing vehicles and so much more. However there is a downside and I believe that it is pretty major. PC versions of BF3 have 64 player online where the battlefield feels real and on the console's it has 24 the same for BC2. Trailers depict heavy battle with explosions happening all around you while this may well ring true for the PC version this is definately not the case for console and is a real shame. While it works well on small maps such as Grand Bazaar big maps on conquest like caspian border feel shameful and hardly any action will take place. If you have a PC that can play this game then I strongly sugest you go get that but it is perfectly fine for the Xbox 360 and one game that will keep me entertained for months perhaps years Expand

This is more strategic and less ball-to-wall than its CoD counterpart, and the introduction of vehicles mixes it up too. The only problem I have is that it is more difficult to pinpoint the enemy, and be accurate if you are new to the franchise. I often get killed without having ever seen my killer. While this can be frustrating, it is not enough to bring the experience down too much. Expand

After playing it for over 20 hours I can safely say that it has lived up it's predecessor's standards. The new guns, vehicles, and the new Frostbite 2 engine run perfectly. Although there are some hitches in the gameplay in the middle of a match. I noticed that sometimes some of the gadgets glitch and end up not doing anything, for example one time one of my squad mates got killed right next to me and so I took out my defibrillator to revive him, but no matter how hard I tried i couldn't revive him. There are just small hitches in the game, most of the time they aren't noticeable but on rare occasions they can hinder your gameplay. Now I will move to the Campaign, it is not very good, at all, compared to the multiplayer experience single player suffers greatly. The campaign consists of 1 minute of gunplay and then a quick time event, also the AI is far to easy at some points, and then at other points, the AI is so difficult I die after 2 seconds. The campaign is not good at all, but the multiplayer is where it is at. I would give this game a perfect ten for an innovative multiplayer but unfortunately a single player campaign was added and it dragged the game down. With BF 3 things changed. The multiplayer is fantastic. It is a great change of pace from the run and gun approach from Halo, Cod and Gears. playing with friends is brings a tactical advantage Like have on guy use a laser painter for everyone to lock on and all the things you can unlock are surprising. You can spend entire games flying helicopters or jets, or driving a tank. the sniping is the most realistic out of any game none of the so called "quickscoping" with a .50 cal rifle which would dislocate your shoulder. I could play an entire game just rolling around as an EOD robot. Even with all the annoying little things like mortaring from your spawn where no one can kill you and a game where everyone on the other team snipes or everyone on your team is in your spawn waiting for Jets, i think this game deserves a 9.0 and if the campaign was better, probably the only place COD beat BF, it would get a 10 from me. it is a weird feeling when you stop to admire the sun reflecting off the dust in the air, ending shortly by some sort of weapon killing you. There is also a satisfaction from getting someone else's dog tag from sneaking behind them. BF gives an experience no other Modern FPS can give you where you can shoot a hole in a building above some one and having the destruction killing them, rain hell from above in a aircraft or just blow **** up in a tank the mechanics of all of which are just difficult enough that you can't be invincible in any of them. Who decided one day that performing such actions are fun and necessary to core gameplay?). It took but four or five hours for my conquering of BF3's campaign. That's a bad time, even for n64 games. However, the game delivers what it promises with each new installment: a deep multiplayer experience. Though, I would love to see 64 player deathmatches come to my beloved 360. However the game is somewhat limited to what Microsoft can currently offer. Thanks, Bill Gates. Besides that little pipe-dream, the multiplayer is more than solid, and should keep any competitive player happy for a long while. So if the multiplayer is great, why give it an eight (rhymes)? Because I'm a COD fan...kidding, I'm just kidding. I love the fact that the game reaches out to a special group of gamers who are interested in strategy rather than run&gun tactics. However, I think that the time spent on BF3's campaign mode could have been used to create an even better online experience. The only negative views the critics had to offer was that BF3's campaign sucked. I guarantee that the game would have gotten higher ratings across the board if the campaign didn't exist. It only served to show a chink in the armor.
If you love games like Bioshock for narrative purposes only, sit this one out. But if you are a FPS fan looking for some deep competition (current owners of BF3, I was the guy you tromped several times) pick this one up! It comes in 2 disc format, one for campaign and one for online matches. So basically, for $60 you can play BF3 online weekdays and play Frisbee with the dog on weekends. BOOM. Everyone is happy!

BC2 was a decent game, but it had fundamental flaws and felt like the second half had been rushed in time for release, but it had the whole destructible cover going for it which added to the realistic experience - something that I hoped would be added and improved upon in BF3. Thankfully EA and it's Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment division delivered, and ultimately gets my vote over it's rival MW3 - albeit only just, simply because of the more realistic element it employs during the campaign. From both a graphical and gameplay stance.

Saying that though BF3 certainly isn't flawless. Screen tearing shows it's ugly face, along with a number of occasions where the frame rate suffers, but for the most part it is a pretty solid effort. Presentation wise as you'd expect with anything EA related it certainly delivers, along with an atmospheric soundtrack which keeps you gripped from beginning to end. On a personal note I enjoyed the campaign, although it was a little short and too dark to see what was going on at times, but I don't really see why it has been widely criticized so much. As first person shooters go it has to be one of the best of this generation, and would be almost perfect if they could just iron out a few niggles here and there.

The maps are still the biggest in the genre. There is something for everybody. If you like run and gun style much like call of duty play death match, but careful that wall your hiding behind probably wont be there very long unlike other games. If you want team based play conquest and take full advantage of the epic maps, vehicles and destruction as you see fit. The realism here is topped only by games like America's Army. That's saying a lot coming from a veteran of 2 wars. Take out of this what you will, I love it. I've been playing FPS games since Wolfenstien and Doom on PC, from all the big names, Medal of Honor, Rainbow 6,Call of Duty, Ghost Recon to name a few. On-line, this is the king in my book but if you want a campaign then do yourself a favor and rent it. Expand

Battlefield 3 is a fun game. With that said, let me talk about its cons since we all no about its pros. 1. First off, the campaign is not very original or good for that matter. The plot is extremely one dimensional and leaves no surprises. 2. This game was over hyped. Again, THIS IS A VERY GOOD GAME PLEASE DON'T KILL MY FAMILY, FAN BOYS. Although the multiplayer game play is solid and the graphics/ physics are stellar, the game play is just too slow and repetitive for many gamers. Some of Battlefield's elements act as a double edged sword, such as destruction, which although is freeking awesome, makes many maps feel the same, taking away variation from the game. In addition, the main game play formula just doesn't really appeal to the average casual gamer. That being said, this game is still great and will be a staple for hardcore gamers, and for casual gamers, this will be a great game to go to a few times a week. I definitely recommend buying this if you have the money. If you don't have the money, don't feel obliged to get it.

So, I bought BF3 and haven't been able to put it down (so much that I haven't gone out to buy MW3). The game looks great for an adaptation from PC to Console (which won't be at its best til the next gen of consoles come out). Campaign mode is the only place I felt it lack on. Now I don't mean I didn't like the single player just that it felt like it missed something. Overall the graphics, story, game play were great. Multiplayer is what I really got this game for, a change from MW. What's great about it is the fact that this is a team game. Of course you can run and gun as a loner but the fun is working in your squad. If you can join or make a squad and if you work together you can destroy anything in your path. Also the vehicles are great no more kill streaks to get a helo that you don't fly. There's nothing better than to bring a tank to a gun fight or to blow up a building with the enemy in it. If you want a great MP experience definitely pick this game up. If you are only interested in the Campaign just rent it. Expand

MW3 is built to be a thrill ride and the multiplayer is so fast and crazy that I find it irresistible. I actually held of on buying MW3 so I could give Battlefield 3 a fair shake. I like Battlefield 3, but it is a more strategic experience, which is great. The maps are gigantic, so there isn't constant shooting. Not to say that there isn't intense moments - there is plenty. Compared to MW3 (or any other Call of Duty since 4) there is almost zero customization. You don't know how badly I want a rocket launcher in my Assault Rifle loadout, but it isn't allowed and that's part of the strategy. This latest Battlefield has also added many new character animations, and some are pretty cool. The ones that interfere with gameplay are so not cool. When going prone (new ability), there is a fairly lengthly animation during which time you are unable to fire your weapon. Getting up from the prone position is even worse. I get whacked about 50% of the time that I use the "prone" function. The uber-touchy right stick (360) activates the function, sometimes whether you want it to or not. It makes me so mad I could swallow my tongue. Battlefield 3 does many, many things right and it's a great looking game. I just play it when I'm in the mood, the thing is I'm usually in the mood for Call of Duty. Expand

The brand new Frostbite 2 engine makes the game seem almost like you're in a war, with the lighting and destructible environment and the massive scale of the environment around you. The multi-player makes up for the campaign as it offers hours worth of unlocking, instead of simply restarting the player 15 times. I have been playing as the engineer class the entire time and it took about 20 hours of playing time to unlock all weapons and gadgets. And after that 20 hours and receiving approximately 212 score per minute i have unlocked that, so it does take a long time to unlock. There is also many unlocks for many different things. About 12-18 weapon accessories(number of accessories depend on the weapon) for 53 different types of weapons, 10-16 unlocks(also depending on the vehicle) for 24 different vehicles. Also the battles seem more like wars, especially conquest. The player can be in one area of the massive maps and not even know the battles going on around them. While the infantry fights on the ground the jets are in massive dogfights above. For example, when playing conquest on Caspian Border, one fireteam(squad) may be holding a position and get dozens of kills for each player while the rest of the platoon is fighting for control of the other positions. Teamwork is also a major factor for Battlefield. It doesn't matter if your team is just a four man squad or if the entire 32 player team(for conquest on PC only) are working together you will succeed. Battlefield also offers players more things, just two months into the games release they are already offering a DLC with four maps ten weapons and three vehicles. Overall i would give battlefield 9/10 only because the campaign wasn't the best it could have been but all other aspects of the game are fantastic. i hope this helps anyone thinking about buying this game Expand

Most people tend to take a liking to a certain class, but I recommend using all 4. The maps are HUGE. You'll spend half the time traveling across a huge landscape in one of BF3's many vehicles. They other half you spend strategically killing opponents. And I mean strategically. You will have to adjust if you come from Run and Gun shooters. BF3 also adds a Cooperative mode, where you and one friend can team up on AI enemies. Its fun, although I wish there was more than 6 missions. Campaign, ah Campaign. Im not really sure how to react to this, considering there isnt really a story. Its more like several missions with a short 5min cutscene. so, online is basically the best fps experience you can have today, great graphics, balanced guns and vehicles, and nothing seems "cheap". games can last up to 45 minutes which is just amazing and winning a game that goes that long just adds more fun to it. Also each game is different since dice gives you a huge map, and lots of possibilities to go through those maps (except the 3 maps that are more close quartered, dont get me wrong they are still fun just a little more call of duty ish). focus on teamwork is key in this game, so when you get that lone sniper complaining how bad the game is, its because hes just in it to get kills for himself, and isnt actually playing the game the way it should be played. Rush is a great gamemode and so is conquest, the others i dont really care about because they play on a smaller scale, and that is not why I buy battlefield games.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
