DICE did mention the game to kick mw3 in the ass and...its debatable, DICE's engine is great but been a new invention means there are many bugs that they have, and keep on fixing. many little things dont seem right in multiplayer, like the spawn sometimes, the sound going mute at times, and a few more. That is an important flaw to say its better than COD, but what i really love is how people play it, there are always noobs that camp (camper knows camper does) but the fact that there are no killstreaks keeps the majority out and in the firefight, instead of hiding to get a few more kills for their killstreak like in MW3. i have never played Bf2 but i really like how BF3 feels unique in the shooter genre, the cutomizing, 4 classes, and weapons feel right not one been really overpowered e.t.c. they did not bring up the BEST game in the industry but it DEFINITLY feels rewarding once you take a break from MW3 or any other game, because it feels different and fair. First off, multiplayer is massively addicting and satisfying. It is without a doubt one of the best looking games I've played in a while. I found the multiplayer to be a great improvement over Bad Company 2, with added in-depth customization, unlockables, jets and many other additions. The new maps also look beautiful, and feature a lot of interesting terrain. The destruction of terrain at times seems to be a step back from BFBC2, and there are a few balance issues, however DICE has been working to correct them. There is also the occasional glitch, but not enough to detract from the captivating gameplay that Battlefield 3's multiplayer offers.

For the campaign, the game is sub-par. It features an intestesting story, however it is somewhat poorly-executed. Plentiful quicktime events plague the game, as well as AI that is at times unfair and unfun to play against. I was disappointed that there was barely any use of vehicles, as for me that is a strong point in Battlefield's trademarked gameplay. On the plus, the campaign looks absolutely stunning with some impressive visuals thanks to a brand new graphics engine.

Overall, BF3 is a great multiplayer offering and how I feel true war-FPS multiplayer SHOULD be played. The campaign is a let-down, but don't let that keep you from buying this game. Totally worth it!

People are saying like bf2 is better, are you kidding me? bf2 doesnt even have solid ground against its big brother bf3. 20 fps? not even happy wheels runs that slow on a good computer so how could bf3? Bugs? only bugs i get are bugs when sometimes the sound will bug out if too many explosions happen around me at one time. Constantly spawn killed by snipers? recon is the least played class so how can you get killed that much plus sniping isnt like COD where you can do 360 no scopes and think ur awesome, its legit sniping in battlefield. Controls are bad? wtf its the same controls as COD with the addition of spotting. Dice rushed bf3? they spent 3 years developing bf3 and frostbite 2 and u call this instead of mw3 which got one year to be developed rushed? Small maps? Get ur eyes checked. but i will admit the campaign is pretty boring and co op is pretty short. but its not that big of a deal this is like one slice of a whole pizza. NOW THAT SOME LIES ARE CLEARED, lets talk about what bf3 is good at. bf3 has by far the best graphics i have seen even if its not at bf3s best because of console limitations and those who say bf3 has bad graphics have to check their eyes. bf3 has its own server hosts so no more annoying host migration *cough* *cough* *COD*. lag is not a problem in bf3 as it rarely lags at all. the maps are a great change from CODs tightly packed maps they feelnice and open and give you space to think. many people will fail and give bf3 a bad review because theyve played COD for too long and they expect all fps to be like that. BF3 IS NOT COD!!!! bf3 has its own style and you have to be dedicated to learn how the game works. campers are no problem because once i demolish their cover theyll have to taste the bullets from my m416. vehicles make jobs easy to do but their not invincible so you have to learn to retreat not think ur chuck norris' son and blast at air. i have much more good stuff to say but it will all be revealed when you buy bf3. remember if u go into battlefield with COD tactics, youll never grasp the true awesomeness of bf3 Expand

This is a fantastic multiplayer game. I have way more fun with this then I have with Black Ops. I've played all of the COD games back to COD 2 and I love them. This is a different experience and well worth trying if you love multiplayer FPS games. Give it a shot. It is absolutely fantastic.

The real star of the show is the multiplayer. Maps are large and full of vehicles. 12 v 12 on the Xbox isn't a problem. It's still full of action. In my opinion, players should be playing conquest. The main mode of all Battlefield games. Rush is quite fun and the addition of Team Deathmatch is quite nice.
Now the graphics. For a console game. I think this is one of the most gorgeous games out there. Everyone should install the HD pack when they are prompted. The lighting effects stand out as to one of the best in my opinion. Frostbite 2 isn't bad on Xbox 360 thanks to the folks at DICE. One of the best games ever in my opinion.

Muiltiplayer is the reason to get this game. And then you need to play with your friends to get the best experiance out of the game, if you do that, it will be a blast to play. Once a few hiccups are ironed out with matchmaking the ride will be worth the wait.

I played the multiplayer Beta and was unimpressed by the hit-and-miss servers, the overly bright sunlight and "detached" feel to the experience. It looks like they fixed the brightness.... and little else. The multiplayer isn't a battle simulation or a full-on FPS, it is a combination of both, unfortunately not in a good way. There are glitches when using vehicles and inside buildings.
Co-op campaign - I played this with a friend. You feel isolated, as though you are the only two soldiers in the world fighting an oncoming army whilst everybody watches.
Single player campaign - The graphics range from excellent high-quality HD to cartoony, blocky and basic. To aid realism you have to peer through scratched glass and deal with 'lens flare'. Whilst this does add to the realistic feeling it ultimately makes for a frustrating game where your vision is obscured a lot of the time and you miss out on the action and enjoyment. In summary, I would say the game looks a little rushed (to beat the release of COD - MW3?). Graphics in places are really not up to the current standard for a top-of-the-range modern FPS. Having said that, it is better than some and would have looked better stacked against games from 3 years ago. I wish I had waited until January and picked up a cheap copy.

The amount of customization is ridiculous and there is a decent amount of vehicles. Speaking of vehicles, the jets and helicopters have especially amazing flight models and can do some serious damage. Luckily though, from about the 10 hours I've played it seems that the game is incredibly well balanced and rock-paper-scissors mentality is very prevalent. As for the campaign, it is incredibly mediocre and is simply a little addition to the multiplayer. Co-op as well is a little addition which can be quite a bit of fun. If you were buying Battlefield 3 for the single player you may be out of luck for two reasons. For one, it really isn't that good and two, you must be new to the franchise if you were buying a battlefield game for the single player. If you are a new and casual player who lacks patience or team work, you may find this game very frustrating because it isn't as dumbed down as some other FPSs on the market. If you find learning the ins and outs of a new game fun however, you will absolutely enjoy the multiplayer as it may be one of the best I have ever played. (And yes, that includes BF2) Expand

I'll just say this right away, I'm mainly a Call of Duty player and I never really got into the Battlefield franchise. But the first time I saw Battlefield 3 I was literally blown away. The game hasn't really met my expectations but it is still an amazing first-person shooter. Most shooters I would gravitate towards the single player first and then hop onto the multiplayer. But Battlefield 3's single player is so bad that I would recommend not even playing it. Boring story, weak dialogue, bad voice acting and uninteresting moments. However, the multiplayer in this game is so good that it alone is worth picking the game up for it. It gets really hectic in the open fields, teamwork is really encouraged, there's tons of things to unlock and all of the classes are fun to play. I also like the co-op mode in this game. What sucks is that there's only 6 missions and they're over pretty quick. Overall, it isn't a innovative first-person shooter but it's probably one of the best this generation. Expand

I loved playing the next day until about three hours, when the server crashed yet again. I will absolutely love this game once the server issues are resolved(hopefully). there were a few bugs. They were nothing that really take away from the game, but it is still annoying to shoot someone, get the kill, and then shoot them some more because they stay in the exact same place and position. The good- well there really is too much to list but i will try to sum it up - The game is visually stunning. I really mean stunning, to the point of where you have to play it to believe it. The online multiplayer is fantastic - there are many of the same modes, but they are done well. The controls(a big issue i had with BF:bc2) are smooth and natural. When you play it for the first time, it is very easy to adjust to the preset control scheme. The classes are standard Battlefield, but they are rehashed and a bit more balanced than BF:bc2. The game is challenging - like every Battlefield I have played before - which made it more rewarding to get my first 20-0 game. The vehicle collection on multiplayer is impressive, and the vehicles are more real to life with roll, yaw and pitch style controls. The campaign is good, but it seems to be a bit linear compared to other Battlefield games. I will be honest, this game would get a 10 from me, however the server issues for xbox have to be addressed. I love this game and would recommend it to any of my friends who game. Expand

Sure, the single player isn't terribly special but that's not why we play Battlefield in the first place. I've put many hours into CoD and it's a very different game and I'm tired of all these comparisons. Those of you saying it isn't as "smooth" are correct but this is only because MW is an arcade style shooter and battlefield is not. BC2 was my first battlefield game and initially I had the same complaints. Once you get used to playing BF3, you will truly appreciate it for the "Battlefield moments." There is nothing like sneaking up on a tank on foot and taking it out with C4 or your rocket launcher while it does its best to destroy the building you're lurking in. The tense moments when I thread a Hummer through enemy lines with full squad aboard and counting on me while the world explodes around us are fantastic. The story is garbage, basically a mirror image of the competition MW. You kill Russians and play as them in select missions; shameful rip off. Many of the missions are boring walk and shoots through uninspired environments. You spend one mission on the streets of Paris, but you are no where near any famous landmarks. Campaign Mode: Now, I have seen a lot of the Battlefield defenders out here stating that the single player shouldn't even be taken into account. Frankly, that's false on so many levels I don't even know where to begin.. but a wise man once said that any game with the single player option, should have a leg to stand on based on that single player option alone. Aside from pretty graphics, the campaign here is stock-standard - there isn't really a reason to touch it. It's the same old thing we've seen over and over again, and it's the kind of thing that goes straight into the bargain bin these days. But I would never fully condemn something without offering an alternative - so how about next time we see a campaign that is based on providing a story-based tutorial on tactics that should be used in the multiplayer game? Let's not mince words here, Battlefield IS a multiplayer experience first and foremost - but if you're not going to try and string out a decent story and drag it out over a trilogy or something of the sort - have SOME point to the thing.

Multiplayer Mode: This is of course where the game was meant to shine, and for the most part it does - it works the way that it was designed... when the people do. Your experience is going to be severely based on who you are playing with, and this day and age it's just about as bad as ever. Let's be serious for a moment - if you think that your friends are always going to be around when you want to play - that's something that just isn't going to happen. I have around a dozen friends to play with and aside from the rare one day a week a good number of us getting together is a rarity.

BUT, when it does work and you all communicate things CAN be beautiful. I won't even take into consideration the servers going down so much on release - and knowing EA and my experiences with all of the Battlefield games, they will be going down quite a bit - I've had some pretty good experience. But than again I have also came into situations where my team-mate has just driven around in circles inside mission critical equipment. It's infuriating, it takes you out of the game and it happens more often than I'd like to admit.

The unlocks right now are the only thing keeping me going at a regular pace.. the terrain is beautiful and provides a good deal of cover but there is a lot of independent scenery that I am finding myself having to navigate around.. and poorly. I'm talking bits of small scenery on the ground that is slowing me down in ways that it really shouldn't.

All in all - for everything bad, I am finding something good. It's just I feel that the good is going to wear off and the bad is going to stay. If you seriously can't stand the way COD handles multiplayer (and you are educated enough to see what changes they've made this year) AND you can only afford to buy one of these.. go with Battlefield, it's not what it was hyped to be but it's what you've come to know and love.

Enjoy the destruction but it's no where near the BFBC 2 level of destruction. This game is not worth $60. Save yourself some money and buy the multiplayer for 20 bucks off some one and the EA vip pass for $10 dollars more.

The single player campaign is just as good if not better than most CoD and other FPS single player campaigns. The co-op is fine, I've only played it a little bit but it's definitely challenging on the higher difficulties, the only downside is that it only allows for 2 player co-op where I feel it would've been better with 4. Without question though the main attraction and pretty much the only reason it should be judged is the multiplayer and it is amazing. Gun customization and unlocks are a lot deeper than any other Battlefield game, the maps are BEAUTIFUL...some of the best graphics I've seen in a console game (must install HD texture pack or the textures of boxes and stairs will be quite ugly)...and the game is just awesome...

The only downside to the multiplayer is that they had server issues the first couple of days which probably also accounts for the 50+ negative reviews since it's likely people with no patience complaining about the servers...they have been up and running on all cylinders since yesterday (Thursday Oct 27th) and no longer having connection issues...the game has already shipped 10 million in the first week, so that should say enough right there...

Battlefield 3 is a must-have FPS experience for any shooter fan, and for the CoD fans...you can play team deathmatch and feel right at home but for the people who want the true Battlfield 3 experience...stick to Rush or Conquest

In this case however, I did not have a single moment of joy, despite playing 10hrs. Maps are huge, if you don't want to sit in a tank, then you have to run 500m to reach a target destination. When you get there, you are either going to get sniped or gunned down by a tank. Oh, of course, huge map, small number of player (24 on a map designed for 60+? really? ), lots of running, not much shooting -> you get the picture. I mean come on. How can anybody play a shooter game where you have maps, where you can hardly even see 9 enemy players, let alone kill them? Small maps:
Just a few words to describe the feeling. Mortar, prone, camping, lens flare, dust, tanks (you simply have to have tanks on small maps ). Isn't this the recipe of enjoyment? Well, it may be, but not for me. Rubbish game.

Ignore the low scores that you see below 4 or 5, these reviews are created by COD trolls that want to see Battlefield fail, or couldn't pull off one-hit 360 no-scope kills, or simply do not have the patience or to learn how to play (possibly due to an underdeveloped cerebral cortex). You may somehow believe that it looksIgnore the low scores that you see below 4 or 5, these reviews are created by COD trolls that want to see Battlefield fail, or couldn't pull off one-hit 360 no-scope kills, or simply do not have the patience or to learn how to play (possibly due to an underdeveloped cerebral cortex). I will get this out of the way first: this game is NOT Call of Duty. You may somehow believe that it looks like COD, but this game is definitely in it's own league. This game does NOT have perks or kill streaks that make you an unstoppable force on the Battlefield, sorry but the developer DICE doesn't believe in one man armies. The game is also more realistic than COD. When sniping, you can't just bunny hop and snipe people and expect to get a headshot, because it's near impossible in real-life with a 10-pound sniper rifle. Plus when sniping, you are going to have to account for something called gravity, the bullets aren't lasers, they are projectiles that are affected by gravity once the bullet exits the barrel, so aim high for that headshot, because it isn't the game's fault that you can't aim.

The multiplayer is where the game is worth it's cost, and why most people buy Battlefield. The maps are big, open, and allow different routes to each objective. Destruction makes the game dynamic and generally a round never plays the same way twice. The vehicles bring an element of changing the outcome of battle by supporting your teammates with superior firepower or moving them into flanking positions. The classes have their own niches that can bring defeat or victory to your team depending on their use. Assault can heal or revive teammates to keep them in the fight. Support supplies ammunition to teammates, and can create havoc with C4 or mortars. Engineers repair friendly vehicles and can cause harm to enemy ground vehicles or aircraft. Recon scouts for opponents, snipes, or hides like a little girl due to some players' style. The game does have a learning curve that teaches you to work in a team, flank your opponents, use vehicles to turn the tide of war, and importantly USE COVER in order to survive. Destruction will destroy your cover so it would be wise to keep moving when an enemy sees you in order to keep on fighting. Battlefield is for people who will work together. You are not Rambo. You will not win battles single-handed-ly against good teams. You will need teammates in order to coordinate attacks and expose your opponents' weaknesses. If you can't work with other people, please don't get the game and ruin other peoples' experience by being a worthless teammate and a waste of a server slot. It will save you some hate mail. If you work with others, the gameplay value increases exponentially because of the fun you have working and helping teammates work for victory. Teamwork is a corner-stone of Battlefield.

The graphics are phenomenal, make room on your 360 hard drive in order to download the HD texture pack, it makes the game beautiful.

For those that can't connect or get server disconnects, it's just something that happens to DICE with every release. But DICE sticks to it to make sure the game functions and will fix the servers as quickly as possible. Remember that COD Black Ops was almost unplayable on day one, so COD isn't better than BF in this case.

Plus DICE will not leave players in the cold with a lack of patches. They will bust their tails to balance weapons, stop exploits, fix bugs, and other problems. They have enough experience to know how to patch their own game quickly. TL;DR
-This game is not COD, it is Battlefield. Comparing the two is like comparing pee-wee football (COD) to College Football (Battlefield).

-Ignore the low scores from COD trolls who can't adapt to a more realistic, unforgiving game

-Multiplayer is where the game is at. Destruction, open maps, and vehicles make no two rounds of gameplay the same. This game is very fun to those who like to undertake challenges.

-The game requires a learning curve in order to be skillful. It will be tough at first, but once you learn the roles of the classes and vehicles, you can become a much better player.

-Teamwork is required to win. Lone wolves will fail against good teams. -Install the HD texture pack for a better visual experience

If you say that MW3is the same game with updated graphics - in all areas of technology, you just build upon your already built tools. Nothing wrong on updating graphics. Also, to keep the identity of the game, nothing more natural than keeping things familiar - that is why the number 3 follows the name - it is a continuation of the story, with also some gameplay updates.

BF3 also just built upon they had done before, and they did not create something new: they updated their engine and called a different name, making people believe that it is an entire different engine. BFBC2 had destructible environment and you could drive vehicles, the latest MOH installment had the player control a chopper...

Therefore, BF3 is also a graphically updated game with some gameplay updates as well - like going prone, for example. And, again the number 3 after the name stands as a continuation of a previous game, hence nothing genuinely new here.

The difference between them is the gameplay, as a lot of comments already described them, making the player's preference just a matter of personal taste.

Although both games are focused on online gameplay, I would like the campaign to be at least decent - and not only 5 hours of gameplay, which also turned me down on MOH.

Finally, how different they really are? FPS consists in running around shooting enemies and getting shot at. Just like racing games and sports games are the same year after year, with updated graphics, improved gameplay and graphics. They all build upon a pre-existing title. At this point, it would be economically unviable to create an entirely new engine, to any type of game, from scratch.

Like a said before, I really like both franchises and I am getting both games, but some things need to be addressed.

You dont have to be a twitch COD player to rack up numerous kills in this game. Further, as you level the game continues to stay extremely balanced. Having problems with prone snipers? Although no one I know buys any type of FPS for the campaign anyways.

The coop is a new addition to the Battlefield franchise (unless you consider BFBC2 Onslaught mode a type of coop). There are 6 missions averaging about 20 minutes each. However, you can unlock multiplayer guns in these missions are they are extremely fun to play. The 1st is a basic defend your position against tanks and enemies using mines, javelins, m249s, etc. The 2nd is a change of pace, you're in a scout helicopter tasked to protect two ground teams from incoming forces which include tanks and infantry, one player fully pilots while the other fully guns.

Another is a sniper mission where you are tasked to rescue hostages from a very far distance with silenced guns. This mission really felt like a first person Splinter Cell, it was my favorite of the six.

Another is a mix up of everything basically. You start silently to save an informant, then you go guns blazing through Iraqi streets and you ride in Humvees.

My second favorite was the one where you have to reach the garage and your in a hotel. It's basically on the run and you destroy everything in your path.

The last one was probably the shortest. You are tasked with disarming a subway bomb and essentially you go in with gas masks and mow down guys.

The multiplayer is where Battlefield shines. No joke, this is probably the best multiplayer I have ever played in my life. I'm ruling out Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty, Halo, Killzone, Gears of War... anything. There are hundreds of unlockables which include weapons, camo (for your character), weapon addons, specializations, tank upgrades, jet upgrades, ground vehicle upgrades (besides tanks), AA gun upgrades, scout helicopter upgrades, and attack helicopter upgrades. Currently, there are 33 vehicles in the game which include all of those mentioned above. The campaign is given a 7, the coop is a 8, and the multiplayer is a 9.5.

Overall, the game is about an 8/10.

It's amazing, if you want to try a new FPS... if you love the Battlefield series... or if you want the best multiplayer experience for FPS, get this game. It's worth every penny.

While its true that the multiplayer is clearly the focus of BF3, DICE still felt the need to add a campaign to bulk out the experience, you know why? To justify the price tag. If Battlefield 3 is a multiplayer-focused game, then for **** sake, cut out the single player **** and cut the price tag, I don't want to fork out $90 (Aussie) for a game only to find out that the Multiplayer is the only component worth its salt, at least with CoD they put a reasonable amount of effort into the campaign while still producing amazing multiplayer, and then there's the other modes like Spec. Ops and Zombies.
Nonetheless, 8 is a good score, and that's because the multiplayer is amazing, but I would very much suggest waiting until the price drops to get BF3, save the big money for meaty games like Assassin's Creed Revelations, Halo: CE Anniversary and Skyrim (a thousand **** times, buy Skyrim)

Battlefield 3, oh Battlefield 3. One of the most anticipated games of 2011, with the ultimate goal of killing the popular Call of Duty series. Did DICE achieve that goal? I don't think they did. Sure, the multiplayer is incredibly awesome and addicting, but the Campaign and Co-op just really ruin the overall game. I'm not even sure why DICE even bothered to waste their time with addingBattlefield 3, oh Battlefield 3. Sure, the multiplayer is incredibly awesome and addicting, but the Campaign and Co-op just really ruin the overall game. I'm not even sure why DICE even bothered to waste their time with adding that stuff in, they're not story tellers. The Campaign is extremely boring, and is a chore to play. I don't even know if I'll ever finish it, because it's not even worth finishing. DICE's attempt at making an enjoyable Co-op experience failed. It's not quite as boring as the campaign, but still bad enough to make me not even complete the last two missions I haven't played yet. So by now you may be wondering why I didn't give this game a 1 or 2. The reason why is because 1.) The game is one of the best looking and sounding on a console. 2.) It's gameplay is super smooth and awesome. And 3.) The game's multiplayer is one of the best experiences I've played in a long, long time. It's definitely lived up to my expectations, and is the ONLY thing keeping this game afloat. I find it 10x more fun then Call of Duty's repetitive multiplayer. DICE couldn't of done a better job with it, and that is the sole reason why this game gets a positive score from me. If you're looking for a game with an incredible multiplayer, BUY THIS GAME. Just don't touch the second disk (Campaign). I hope this review helped those of you who are still thinking about buying this game. Expand

Squad connection issues, visual hiccups, falling through the game's geography, lag, lag, and more lag and sadly some of those issues are still around. Attempting to join a game as a squad is almost impossible. Someone gets dropped back to the menus, others get in but are put on opposite teams, or we all get in a game but they are completely different games. Really frustrating and an issue that was in the beta that did not get remedied. A main ingredient that makes this game great is working as a team and how are we to work as a team if we can't all be on the same one? Silly and sloppy DICE. Lag issues are still here and are still a negative but I'm a little more understanding and lenient about this. I remember in the first month of Bad Company 2 that the game was almost not playable because of horrible connection issues. Add that with me knowing that it's a rarity that a game's online experience is flawless in the first week of its launch and I'm not too stressed out about it. The lag will get fixed. Eventually. But even though I'm unhappy with some of the technical issues this game is pretty great. The multiplayer still has all the fun and great "oh my god moments" that make this franchise a treat to play. Yes. You can go prone that can be annoying especially for those who played BC2 and not used to it, but I've learned to embrace it. Little is better than being a support class, going prone, propping up my light machine gun, and putting down deadly suppressive fire as my teammates and I cap off a flag. Yes. The prone ability and lack of an informative kill cam does give snipers a leg up, but this is when communication between squad mates and spotting is key. The maps out of the box are diverse and fun. There's been some who said the maps are too big but DICE has already made them smaller to fit the 24 player console cap and I think they did a nice job making sure there's enough room to roam but compact enough to still be able to find the action. The other nice touches like being visually affected by suppressive fire, being able to disable vehicles, being able to get knifed only in the back, how the lighting system affects the gameplay, and the extensive reward system, are just some of the things that I found to be great additions. The single player is a so-so story told through flashbacks. These memories allow players to experience huge explosions and earthquakes but then will ask you to follow a pilot around and sit in a jet doing nothing but looking at plane flaps. An odd mix of excitement and boredom and something that could use a little Sweet Water or Haggard to make it worth my while. But, one should be getting this title for the multiplayer and not the single player so I'm okay. Luckily, this title can only get better and I'm excited to see DICE make the required fixes and give it that layer of polish it should have had in the first place. Sure. One could wait to buy this game to avoid the growing pains but one would miss out. The thrill and excitement of the online gameplay is well worth any glitch induced headaches. Expand

There's probably only one complaint I have for this game gameplay wise; jet campers. Maybe some of you are familiar with them. Being that there are only 12 players per team, it can get ridiculous with 6 or more players waiting for a jet. However, I have found a way to resolve this problem; bring back air superiority from Battlefield 1943 and take out jets in the regular multiplayer. That way, anyone who wants to fly a jet can simply go into air superiority and fly the jet to their hearts content. While all the players who like classic ground war style can go into regular multiplayer and not have to deal with jet campers. Other than that, the game is fairly balanced. Expand

The first thing that I feel needs to be cleared up is that this game and COD are not, nor should they ever be, the same game. I love both of these games, but I go to one or the other depending on what gameplay I'm looking for. Full disclosure: I've only been playing Battlefield since BFBC2, but I absolutely LOVED that game. I can honestly say that if you liked that gameplay, chances are you'll like BF3.

The singleplayer is nothing to wrie home about, but it's a decent time killer for when your looking for a break from multiplayer. The biggest let down or me was the fact that the story happens post-earthquake so none of the environments are entact...just rubble. Let me say this, though...if you're looking to get a game soley on the single player campain...PASS...it's not worth it.

I have to admit that I was somewhat disapointed with the Frostbite 2 engine. I was expecting there to be a larger number of destructable portions of the environment, but that is not a game-changer in my book. For the 360, this is one of the best looking games you'll find. The lighting and sound is fantastic. If you crank up your system, you'll feel like your right there in the action.

Some of the changes that I've noticed affect my gameplay are the alterations made to the classes. I never really used the Assault class much in BC2, but I've noticed I tend to use it (or Engineer) in BF3 due to the fact they switched the medic portion from support to assault. I thought the fact that snipers can now go prone would bother me, but it is countered by the reflection of light that gives you a heads up of where the fire is coming from.

Overall, this game is fantastic...and I HATED the beta. But here is my nota bene: If you are looking for COD style multiplayer...this game is not for you. If you're looking for a strategy based FPS that thrives on teamwork and isn't kill driven, then BF3 will scratch you right where you itch.

I would rate this game an 8.5, but I rounded to 9 because I really do feel the multiplayer is so polished it deserves more of a 9 than an 8.

My comments relate only to the single player game. I'm new to this series; it'll be my last. I felt like a bullet magnet. Friendly NPCs stand in the open in front of me. I stand up behind cover and get drilled while they are not hit. Where's the logic in that? The campaign is way too short. It's trade-in time for this one.

It's mainly multiplayer that will decide what game is played more. I'm not going to talk much about Call of Duty and from what I have played it's about average. The multiplayer feels very uninspired, I feel they have been milking the same cow from Modern Warfare. The last game I played was Modern Warfare 2, and it felt the same, but less.... fun? I was a huge fan of Modern Warfare, let me say, and I played it to death. I never bought Black Ops and have never heard any great praise for it. But this is a Battlefield review, so let's move on. When I heard about Battlefield for the first time, I was sitting in a Modern Warfare game, and my friend in the party was giving major acclaim to Battlefield Bad Company 2. I said "Meh." and moved on. After awhile I bought Bad Company 2. And I fell in love. With multiplayer. The campaign was hard to get into, but I was playing live so I didn't care. When Battlefield 3 came out, all of the signs of a fan-boy came out. But I'm not writing it like that. I know it has flaws. So my first impression while playing after the first day I had it was good. It had the Battlefield feel to it, it was very beautiful. The controls felt smooth, not as hectic and jerky as Call of Duty, but still fast paced in it's own special way. I played with my friend and we would talk and make strategy. It was a great time. But I have a beef with this game. Two of the classes are very over powered. Support and Engineer. RPGs flying around my head constantly is very annoying. And when they stand over a ammo drop, hey look.... unlimited rockets flying around. Not fun. I love the game, but sometimes I feel encumbered by reaction times. There is also way to much dead space in the maps. It works for the PC because of the ability of more players in a match, but not here. Once you get into the action though, you feel that sense of urgency. Al the lighting effects add to the feel, and it makes you feel immersed into the game. It has it's ups and downs. I love this game, but it gets on my nerves sometimes. Expand

Ever heard the old expression: All talk and no action? It's not quite that bad, but in their attempt to dethrone MW, I think they overdid it. Yes, it's pretty, but the concept and the mechanics are a further polish to Bad Company 2. I guess after all the hype I expected more. AEver heard the old expression: All talk and no action? Yes, I know it's got the Almighty Frostbite 2 Engine! (Capped for a reason) But where's the innovation from it? Yeah, you can use a flashlight and a laser. Ok...nice but not enough to make me start Occupying Infinity Ward in a smelly tent, sorry.
First off, does anyone even care about the storyline here? For that matter, anyone even KNOW what it is?...... I've heard nothing but complaints, even from fans of the game. My thought is this: If you're going to even BOTHER adding a campaign, why not at least put some effort into it?

They added Spec Ops, which was pretty fun and a good idea to add in-game content as you progress, problem is, the missions are beatable within hours of owning it and you won't have much unlocked, thus forcing you to replay the same missions over and over......and over.

The multiplayer. Well, all I can say about this is repeat what I've said above: It's a prettier version of Bad Company 2. I DO like the improvement to the light machine guns, whereby it truly does suppress the opposition and I DO like the light/laser functions, they're fun, but innovative? Hardly. Reason to act as though we just received game of the decade? Um, no.
If you liked BC2, you'll enjoy this multiplayer, that's about the best I can offer there.

It's not that it's BAD (thus my 6.5), it's just that it was sold to us as not only the new king of the throne, but as if it was going to blow us out of the water, which is not true by any measure. Add to that the fact that EA is horrific for online play to begin with (the first week of release, you couldn't complete a game for anything, and that is when you actually were able to join one.).

The BF fanboys want this to be as good as MW and it simply isn't. And I'm saying that having played both for several years now.

Sold on Amazon for forty bucks a week and a half after I picked it up. Don't believe the hype.

This is an honest review of Battlefield 3, as unbiased as possible.
As it is often compared to Modern Warfare 3, I will also do a brief comparison, but I will keep it as unbiased as possible, yet again.
First off, I have played a few games of each game mode in multiplayer. Conquest and Team Deathmatch stand out to me the most. Multiplayer is just fun, as long as you have a team of friends by your side and you are communicating with them. However, one of the issues is that I have not encountered a single person with their microphone on outside of my friends list.
For a game that is based on teamwork, that is an issue.
I will now dissect the game into individual categories:

    **Graphics**
Best on the market right now, out of any FPS, ever. Contrary to what many PC folks will tell you, the 360 version still looks fantastic and with amazing detail, provided you installed the texture pack. I would occasionally just stop and savor the lighting effects and reflections and things like that. Even the weather effects are top-notch, bringing you right into the game.
    GRAPHICS-5/5

    **Audio**
Yet again, the absolute best sound design you will get anywhere. With Wartapes or Hi-Fi setting on, you can hear every tiny little detail, such as rain pouring off a roof or an RPG whiz past you and even trees swaying in the wind. Plus, I just like the soundtrack anyway.
    AUDIO-5/5

    **Campaign**
For me, I absolutely loved the campaign because it reminded me a lot of a Hollywood-style explosion-fest that is just breathtaking with amazing voice acting, plot, and immersion. Speaking of immersion, this nearly had me thinking I was actually in Tehran in a hostile city at dusk, I could absolutely believe the environment DICE created. But, the AI wasn't a whole lot of fun to fight and the real meat of it was the quicktime events, which were executed flawlessly. I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign, although short, but I can tell most others won't because my tastes are very unusual.
    My rating of the campaign-4/5
    Everyone else-probably around a 3/5

    **Multiplayer**
Here is the real deal, what Battlefield really is. And it delivers. It is impossible to describe, the feeling of sprinting through a war zone, with jets gunning for you and the pings and cracks of bullets hitting the ground behind you, leaping over obstacles acrobatically, while rockets fly past you and your teammates are covering you just long enough to get into the nearest building, only to have it collapse and the desperate run to get out of the way. Almost everything about the multiplayer is top-notch, and it is an insane amount of fun most of the time but it can get frustrating when your team sucks and will not play the objective. MULTIPLAYER-4/5

The long-awaited comparison with the other major FPS of the year: how it stacks up against CoD.
There isn't exactly another way to say it, nearly everything in Battlefield is just a step up from my previous go-to franchise, it is just a higher quality game in most categories. I own a +6.08 K/D in MW3, and a .78 K/D in Battlefield 3, but somehow I still prefer Battlefield because the experience is just...epic. Sound and graphics are YEARS ahead of MW3 and the maps are filled with detail and replayability, compared to the only map I somewhat liked in MW3, Resistance.
(Keep in mind, this was my first Battlefield and I have been playing CoD since Call of Duty 2: Big Red One.)

I went into this without bias, and challenged each game to impress me more than the other. My definition of a good game was completely shattered by Battlefield.
If games were bought because of quality instead of hype, the top 3 sales list of games would be (in my opinion)
    1. Halo Reach
    2. Minecraft
    3. Battlefield 3
(I have not played Skyrim as of this review.)
There are my honest thoughts, and I expect most people to have differing opinions of my review. That is perfectly fine, because this was just how I perceived the game.

First-person shooters aren't worth buying. Trying to talk to the other players online will cause you be be flamed, raged at, and having the insults keep on coming after you. The only respect I really have for this game is that it is more innovative than Call of Duty.

You feel nothing for the characters and the story isn't good enough to keep people interested in completing the 5 hour campaign. Moving onto multiplayer.... UNLIMITED mortar

UNLIMITED mortar ruins the game, its so stupid. When the game came out this wasn't a problem. However, now every has one or a maxed out gun. So dumb. I went back to BF2 after 10 hours of playtime. Everyone and their grandma camps the jet spawn or fails to use team work. Then you have good old EA forcing players to sign up for their bull crap social network services. They want your contact and personal info, even though you want nothing to do with them. 0/10.

As with every major BF release there have been many problems with the servers, to a point where the game is unplayable.

BF3 still feels unpolished, and there are numerous bugs that I could write a novel about.

Bottom line is, this game tries to cater for a broader audience and in the process alienating the core fans, people who play their games for years after the release.

Extremely disappointed. But maybe, just maybe, with a couple patches this 4 could turn into an 7.

My score is based upon my experience with the game since release, the game is ultimately a failure, which could have been resolved in testing but it seems like they were more concerned with releasing it faster then COD.

4 out of 10. Even with a patch that solves really stupid things like blinding tactical lights (which IMO should have been and would have been addressed in testing or beta) to boosting and laggy servers. EA continually tries to reinvent the wheel, an example of this is origin, instead of just using a tried, tested and loved system (steam) as a distribution network..

Perhaps next time more attention will be out towards more than just making the visuals looks better or paying for good reviews and put toward actual testing of gameplay.

Tree was no point to prove. The game was perfect and to me needed only "To be continued..." to scroll the screen when I finished it. I guess you can tell I'm less than impressed with what I consider to be a thoughtless rush job. Let's see. Graphics are not ground breaking. Missions are confusing and boring. Destruction is unrealistc. I can shoot through concrete but not a computer. Where is my hand gun. All these long range scoped weapons in mostly CQC situations. Where are all these enemies, that weren't there before, coming from? The feel of the trigger isn't as convincing as previously. The dialog is cheesy and repetative. In BCB2 I felt like I was the 5th member of that squad, not an unfamiliar newcomer. The jet and tank missions were equally ridiculous. I think I blew up 5 tanks in as many seconds. Where did all the rave come from? Who previewed this game? I think DICE dropped the ball here by leaning on hype during the beta phase and not sticking to the recipe. This game reminds me of one of those movie previews that makes it impossible for you to even think about missing and then when you go see it all the best parts were the previews... Expand

Somebody needs to give this game a proper review. Basically every review from the pro's have been saying that same thing. That basically 2/3 of the game is of no use and that the multiplayer is being plagued by connection issues yet the game gets a rating of 90+? In what world does that make any sense?

Gameplay is the typical BF gameplay. Controls are jumpy. I can't truly depict how poorly this game was made. It might be true that the graphics on the PC version are terrific (for those that can afford the graphics card), but the xbox version is just pathetic. A lot of fuss over nothing. OK, the campaign is NOT something you'd ever buy a BF title for, but the MP is no great shakes either. However, it fairs slightly better than MW3, but not by much. As with MW3, a waste of cash IMHO, so I'll be looking to trade when something decent comes out. A bargain basement buy at least.

First the single player is short, but entertaining. Co-op is fun but... this game is about multiplayer, multiplayer is f'n amazing. And here is where it falls off the rails. Multiplayer is massive and highly detailed with huge maps, many vehicles and teamwork and real tactics rule the day. Yes a TDM mode is included but this is a watered down mode thrown in to attract CoD players. Everything you learned in CoD is wrong and will hurt you in this game. Single player and Co-op will teach you absolutely nothing in the way of skills that will apply in multiplayer. The online ranking system is FUBAR, you have noobs thrown into the meat grinder with uber players. And the number one reason I'm giving this game a low score is that it is completely unfriendly and uncaring to the casual/new player. I can't begin to explain how massive a single multiplayer maps is. And the game developers gave us all a huge "F You" by not including the ability to play private matches. This one simple feature would do wonders for allowing player to improve their game play, to learn the maps, to practice with planes and helicopter without screwing up online games for other players.

This is an amazing game. Graphic 100, best I have seen. Sound 100, simply amazing. Detailed well thought out multiplayer, Very fun Single player and Co-op. But with a multiplayer as detailed as this, with such a huge emphasis on teamwork and tactic it is extremely unfriendly to new/casual player that don't have 8 hours a day to devote to playing this game. If you are new to this style of play, you will be frustrated and I suggest you wait for the next MW installment.

Multiplayer is about as entertaining as that stick with the rubber ball attached to it, single player is a bbad knock off of Call of Duty's Black Ops campaign, and their co-op has got to be worst feature of all. - Campaign is really poor
    - Corrupt data. Lets start with the fact I and another person I know had the same problem, didn't save game properly and saved game corrupted. had to start again - Bad AI. Playing on hard, but as long as you don't get shot you really don't have to work too hard - Poorly scripted moments.

    - Poor environment. Most of the game is set in the dark and you have bright lights from cars and street lights in your eyes all the time. How do you see the environment and feel like you are in it. Just feels like this removes you a little. First time I have seen so many burnt out cars with their head lights still on full beam..

As a matter of fact I have yet to connect to one. The default game search or Quick Match is for core (non-hardcore). First day was kicked countless times from EA servers. Half the time it would just sit there and freeze. After several minutes the only way out was to reset xbox or sign out my profile to make the game exit out to main menu. I experienced a lot of lag as well. I will say I am glad that they added game chat as an option - instead of being able to only chat with your squad, big improvement. Now if we could just get people to actually talk and try to work as a team... but that's not the game's fault. Now on to game play. I am very disappointed by the planes. No airspeed or altitude read out. I am not sure if my plane has been glitching or stalling. I have tried to stall at low speeds just flying level and the plane will not stall out. But I have not been able to figure out if there is a ceiling you stall out at or not. When I have flown high in the A-10 it seems to stall at higher altitude, but the plane won't fall. It just keeps flying up and straight not responding to any controls until I fly OOB and get killed (bad luck). Other than that, the game is almost the same as BF2BC. Some new stuff, but nothing that makes me say wow.

Overall I feel like it was a waste of money to buy this game and I will definitely be using it for trade in credit toward MW3.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
