Not without it faults, but this is one awesomely fun game that feels like strategy really pays off. Now it just needs patching-but still my game of the year.

Why do so many people hate on this game for the single player campaign? First off if you buy shooters for their single player only then this is not the game for you. Well let me first say that this game is a real big step up from Battlefield 2. The graphics, sound, and multiplayer are its strong suits. The only element of this game that feels out of place is the single player story. It feels like the single player and multiplayer are two different games with the same engine. Overall though this game will keep you coming back for more

Battlefield 3 is without a doubt the Shooter of the Year. There is not a better multiplayer experience than this game right here. The realism that was put into this game is astonishing... from the lighting, sound effects, jumping over ledges/fences, flashlights, laser sights... this game has it all. There are a few minor cons, but it should not be hard to look past them and focus on the great things it does. For example, jets are extremely challenging to level up at first seeing as how all you have is a machine gun. However, once you can finally unlock the flares and then the missiles, you will be a force. The dog fights are intense! The maps are great in this game as well. They remind me of the old CoD4's maps only much larger. Rush Mode is the best game mode. It requires squads to coordinate attacks in order to win. You must plant bombs to blow up M-COM stations if you are attacking, and you defend them if you are defending. Conquest is another great game mode. In this mode you have to control certain areas in order to win. It's similar to a Domination type game. Team Deathmatch is also in this game as well. The Single Player is not the best, but its bearable. The graphics and set pieces are great in this game. The live action events are annoying, but they make sense for the plot. If you are a veteran of CoD and are looking for another war game to play on the side or to take over your love of CoD, this game is a much more suitable substitution than games such as Homefront or Mag.e Expand

I loved Battlefield Bad Company 2's multiplayer mode, it was fun, innovative, and time-consuming, to me this was the best multiplayer game out there. After playing it for over 20 hours I can safely say that it has lived up it's predecessor's standards. The new guns, vehicles, and the new Frostbite 2 engine run perfectly. Although there are some hitches in the gameplay in the middle of a match. I noticed that sometimes some of the gadgets glitch and end up not doing anything, for example one time one of my squad mates got killed right next to me and so I took out my defibrillator to revive him, but no matter how hard I tried i couldn't revive him. There are just small hitches in the game, most of the time they aren't noticeable but on rare occasions they can hinder your gameplay. Now I will move to the Campaign, it is not very good, at all, compared to the multiplayer experience single player suffers greatly. The campaign consists of 1 minute of gunplay and then a quick time event, also the AI is far to easy at some points, and then at other points, the AI is so difficult I die after 2 seconds. The campaign is not good at all, but the multiplayer is where it is at. I would give this game a perfect ten for an innovative multiplayer but unfortunately a single player campaign was added and it dragged the game down. If you're going to buy this game, buy it for the multiplayer, not the campaign. Expand

The multiplayer is outstanding and there is a lot of content. The single player is ok. Honestly, I didn't buy this game for that reason. It's limiting, but it shows off the impressive frostbite 2 engine. The length of the campaign is about 6 hours, which is about 2 hours longer than call of duties new game. Still, multiplayer is where it's at. Conquest is my favorite mode and in my opinion the most balanced. Battlefield 3's multiplayer alone is worth the price of admission. I highly recommend it. Expand

With BF 3 things changed. The multiplayer is fantastic. It is a great change of pace from the run and gun approach from Halo, Cod and Gears. playing with friends is brings a tactical advantage Like have on guy use a laser painter for everyone to lock on and all the things you can unlock are surprising. You can spend entire games flying helicopters or jets, or driving a tank. the sniping is the most realistic out of any game none of the so called "quickscoping" with a .50 cal rifle which would dislocate your shoulder. I could play an entire game just rolling around as an EOD robot. Even with all the annoying little things like mortaring from your spawn where no one can kill you and a game where everyone on the other team snipes or everyone on your team is in your spawn waiting for Jets, i think this game deserves a 9.0 and if the campaign was better, probably the only place COD beat BF, it would get a 10 from me. it is a weird feeling when you stop to admire the sun reflecting off the dust in the air, ending shortly by some sort of weapon killing you. There is also a satisfaction from getting someone else's dog tag from sneaking behind them. BF gives an experience no other Modern FPS can give you where you can shoot a hole in a building above some one and having the destruction killing them, rain hell from above in a aircraft or just blow **** up in a tank the mechanics of all of which are just difficult enough that you can't be invincible in any of them. BC2 was a decent game, but it had fundamental flaws and felt like the second half had been rushed in time for release, but it had the whole destructible cover going for it which added to the realistic experience - something that I hoped would be added and improved upon in BF3. Thankfully EA and it's Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment division delivered, and ultimately gets my vote over it's rival MW3 - albeit only just, simply because of the more realistic element it employs during the campaign. From both a graphical and gameplay stance.

Saying that though BF3 certainly isn't flawless. Screen tearing shows it's ugly face, along with a number of occasions where the frame rate suffers, but for the most part it is a pretty solid effort. Presentation wise as you'd expect with anything EA related it certainly delivers, along with an atmospheric soundtrack which keeps you gripped from beginning to end. On a personal note I enjoyed the campaign, although it was a little short and too dark to see what was going on at times, but I don't really see why it has been widely criticized so much. As first person shooters go it has to be one of the best of this generation, and would be almost perfect if they could just iron out a few niggles here and there.

I only played the single player campaign, so my comments are restricted to that aspect of the game. The storyline is pretty weak. Now on the the multiplayer... Which should have been the reason you played any Battlefield games to begin with. Its outstanding. It sets the new standard for what military style multiplayer should be. Some of the maps are just a bit smaller than Battlefield Bad Company 2, but its hardly anything to complain about. The maps are still the biggest in the genre. There is something for everybody. If you like run and gun style much like call of duty play death match, but careful that wall your hiding behind probably wont be there very long unlike other games. If you want team based play conquest and take full advantage of the epic maps, vehicles and destruction as you see fit. The realism here is topped only by games like America's Army. The game looks great for an adaptation from PC to Console (which won't be at its best til the next gen of consoles come out). Campaign mode is the only place I felt it lack on. Now I don't mean I didn't like the single player just that it felt like it missed something. Overall the graphics, story, game play were great. Multiplayer is what I really got this game for, a change from MW. What's great about it is the fact that this is a team game. Of course you can run and gun as a loner but the fun is working in your squad. If you can join or make a squad and if you work together you can destroy anything in your path. Also the vehicles are great no more kill streaks to get a helo that you don't fly. There's nothing better than to bring a tank to a gun fight or to blow up a building with the enemy in it. I like Battlefield 3, but it is a more strategic experience, which is great. The maps are gigantic, so there isn't constant shooting. Not to say that there isn't intense moments - there is plenty. Compared to MW3 (or any other Call of Duty since 4) there is almost zero customization. You don't know how badly I want a rocket launcher in my Assault Rifle loadout, but it isn't allowed and that's part of the strategy. This latest Battlefield has also added many new character animations, and some are pretty cool. The ones that interfere with gameplay are so not cool. When going prone (new ability), there is a fairly lengthly animation during which time you are unable to fire your weapon. Getting up from the prone position is even worse. I get whacked about 50% of the time that I use the "prone" function. The uber-touchy right stick (360) activates the function, sometimes whether you want it to or not. It makes me so mad I could swallow my tongue. Battlefield 3 does many, many things right and it's a great looking game. The brand new Frostbite 2 engine makes the game seem almost like you're in a war, with the lighting and destructible environment and the massive scale of the environment around you. The multi-player makes up for the campaign as it offers hours worth of unlocking, instead of simply restarting the player 15 times. I have been playing as the engineer class the entire time and it took about 20 hours of playing time to unlock all weapons and gadgets. And after that 20 hours and receiving approximately 212 score per minute i have unlocked that, so it does take a long time to unlock. There is also many unlocks for many different things. About 12-18 weapon accessories(number of accessories depend on the weapon) for 53 different types of weapons, 10-16 unlocks(also depending on the vehicle) for 24 different vehicles. Also the battles seem more like wars, especially conquest. The player can be in one area of the massive maps and not even know the battles going on around them. While the infantry fights on the ground the jets are in massive dogfights above. For example, when playing conquest on Caspian Border, one fireteam(squad) may be holding a position and get dozens of kills for each player while the rest of the platoon is fighting for control of the other positions. Teamwork is also a major factor for Battlefield. It doesn't matter if your team is just a four man squad or if the entire 32 player team(for conquest on PC only) are working together you will succeed. Battlefield also offers players more things, just two months into the games release they are already offering a DLC with four maps ten weapons and three vehicles. Overall i would give battlefield 9/10 only because the campaign wasn't the best it could have been but all other aspects of the game are fantastic. i hope this helps anyone thinking about buying this game Expand

Another problem is that they really downsized the maps which is a great shame! The whole fun of Battlefield Bad Company 2 ws that you were always on edge, not knowing where your opponent might be, and always had great fun exploring, thus eliminating "camping". There isn't that much of it in Battlefield 3 but it's becoming more frequent within the game as compared to its predecessor where it's virtually non-existant. Going on to positives tho, the graphic updates they have added to the game really is immense. Also a major plus for the game is the upgrade of vehecles available to you and your teammates and that they have all upgraded health so it's no longer possible to simply shoot 1 rocket or detonate 2 C4's and expect easy points. Overall I Give this game a very fair 9/10 and hope DICE keep up the good work! Expand

Being jets, tanks and helicopters. Much the same as CoD, but that comes with a game like this.

I did however find campaign very...... cliche and typical. I found it however a more "realistic" experience to an "actual" war experience unlike CoD's multiple rail shooter sequences and constant slow mo explosion actions. It just lacked the story needed to make it a good campaign. I did however enjoy the character development they managed with the multiple characters they jumped to. Unlike the many characters which die in other games, i somewhat felt sad by the soldier who was executed, this may have been because of the circumstance.
Overall, its a great game with an awesome multiplayer experience.

That changed when I went to a friend's house and saw this game being played. If you played the beta, then let me say the actual game is completely different. The beta was probably a poor marketing decision in my opinion. Anyhow, after playing other games online, my confidence in the direction that game development in general is taking had started to waver. In general rather than getting bigger and better, they were being dumbed down, to smaller and lamer. No one was ever pushing the envelope. Year after year the same games were being released that completely lacked innovation - from new installments of COD to Halo. Don't get me wrong the first Halo game was great, but then I guess they decided to rest on their laurels, something that the COD franchise has decided is a career move. While PC gamers may scoff, there is no doubt that even they see the effects of the dumbing down of games - as developers reach for a broader audience and develop their games for console and then port that to PC. To me, however, BF3 is that breath of fresh air that I've been waiting for. The maps are enormous. The weapons are fairly realistic and have selector switches. If you had asked me in 2003 when I was playing Ghost Recon I'd say that's pretty much standard, and now that it's 2011 even more so, but sadly it is not. The gameplay options are also pretty vast. There are a ton of different vehicles in which you can play around, as well as four different main classes that can be customized in different ways. You can have 12v12 which again, if you had told me 10 years ago that 24 players on a server would be as far as we would come by 2012, I may have cried... speaking on the development of games in general it's kinda sad. However, compared to other console games out right now, it's obviously very nice. BF3 does have some flaws which are generally overshadowed by the immense fun you'll be having while playing it. For one, the engineer class is clearly the superior class, at least on open vehicle maps. On smaller and indoor maps, the class system that forces teamwork shines a bit better, but on open maps your squad will often consist of four engineers. I have heard some complaints that the larger maps a bit too large, which does have some merit. Although you generally can spawn pretty close to the action, that doesn't detract from the point that, as mainly a conquest player, there can be up to 5 territories, with only 12 players on each team. A bit of math puts between 2 and 3 players at each territory, but since players generally roll in squads of four that kind of divide doesn't generally happen. You can obviously just station a squad at 3/5 of the territories, although things never work out so pretty. Basically what I'm getting at it that I like the map size, but feel that often there are not enough players to fill it - I will quite often move from territory to territory and neutralize/capture two or three in a row without finding any opposition. A lot of people have also complained about joining servers on a squad. The thing is, that since there are dedicated servers as compared to a matchmaking p2p system, there are usually only about four slots free on any server, which is usually two on each team. So when you first join you may be separated from your squad. After one or sometimes two games you can then switch teams as people leave and new people join. It's a minor thing to complain about, as I don't mind killing my friends just a little bit, and after one game we are usually all on the same team in the same squad, ready to have a blast. Anyhow this is getting to be a bit long winded, but I will finish by saying BF3 has really raised the bar for console FPS games. My faith in games has been momentarily restored, and I will never play a lesser FPS. If you haven't tried it, then give it a whirl, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Expand

MW3 has some very satisfying campaign, and it also has the ability to (EA, DICE, PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS) play multiplayer on the same console. My brother and I loved to play MW3 multiplayer together, but we can't play it on BF3. In addition, the multiplayer requires an online pass. While I can understand the logic behind it, I still dislike it. On the flip side, though, BF3 has the ability to edit classes in-game, which MW3 lacks.

The most annoying thing in BF3 mp is the helicopters. It seems like the only helicopter pilots who know how to pilot helicopters are those on the enemy team. On my team, however, nobody knows how to and everyone ends up crashing immediately. The heli controls could be a bit easier. Maybe like the Falcon from Halo: Reach. But that's just an example of the realism, which I find to be a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, the realism is done to an impressive detail. On the other hand, camping is much easier if your enemy dies in half a second. There's a reason I hated MW3's hardcore mode.

The assassinations seem lifted from Halo: Reach, but this is the first bf game I've ever played, and it's entirely possible it was the other way around.

The graphics in MW3 put a lot of detail into the weapons. Just wanted to point that out. The BF3 graphics put less emphasis on weapons, and much more into (amazing) scenery.

I would also like to say that I love the spotting.

On the whole, I think that both BF3 and MW3 have their strengths and weaknesses, but given a choice, I would (being a true fanboy of the series) pick Halo: Reach.
What can I say? I've been playing Halo since I was 6.

First off, I have played a few games of each game mode in multiplayer. Conquest and Team Deathmatch stand out to me the most. Multiplayer is just fun, as long as you have a team of friends by your side and you are communicating with them. However, one of the issues is that I have not encountered a single person with their microphone on outside of my friends list.
For a game that is based on teamwork, that is an issue.
I will now dissect the game into individual categories:

    **Graphics**
Best on the market right now, out of any FPS, ever. Contrary to what many PC folks will tell you, the 360 version still looks fantastic and with amazing detail, provided you installed the texture pack. I would occasionally just stop and savor the lighting effects and reflections and things like that. Even the weather effects are top-notch, bringing you right into the game.
    GRAPHICS-5/5

    **Audio**
Yet again, the absolute best sound design you will get anywhere. With Wartapes or Hi-Fi setting on, you can hear every tiny little detail, such as rain pouring off a roof or an RPG whiz past you and even trees swaying in the wind. Plus, I just like the soundtrack anyway.
    AUDIO-5/5

    **Campaign**
For me, I absolutely loved the campaign because it reminded me a lot of a Hollywood-style explosion-fest that is just breathtaking with amazing voice acting, plot, and immersion. Speaking of immersion, this nearly had me thinking I was actually in Tehran in a hostile city at dusk, I could absolutely believe the environment DICE created. But, the AI wasn't a whole lot of fun to fight and the real meat of it was the quicktime events, which were executed flawlessly. I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign, although short, but I can tell most others won't because my tastes are very unusual.
    My rating of the campaign-4/5
    Everyone else-probably around a 3/5

    **Multiplayer**
Here is the real deal, what Battlefield really is. And it delivers. It is impossible to describe, the feeling of sprinting through a war zone, with jets gunning for you and the pings and cracks of bullets hitting the ground behind you, leaping over obstacles acrobatically, while rockets fly past you and your teammates are covering you just long enough to get into the nearest building, only to have it collapse and the desperate run to get out of the way. Almost everything about the multiplayer is top-notch, and it is an insane amount of fun most of the time but it can get frustrating when your team sucks and will not play the objective. MULTIPLAYER-4/5

The long-awaited comparison with the other major FPS of the year: how it stacks up against CoD.
There isn't exactly another way to say it, nearly everything in Battlefield is just a step up from my previous go-to franchise, it is just a higher quality game in most categories. I own a +6.08 K/D in MW3, and a .78 K/D in Battlefield 3, but somehow I still prefer Battlefield because the experience is just...epic. Sound and graphics are YEARS ahead of MW3 and the maps are filled with detail and replayability, compared to the only map I somewhat liked in MW3, Resistance.
(Keep in mind, this was my first Battlefield and I have been playing CoD since Call of Duty 2: Big Red One.)

I went into this without bias, and challenged each game to impress me more than the other. My definition of a good game was completely shattered by Battlefield.
If games were bought because of quality instead of hype, the top 3 sales list of games would be (in my opinion)
    1. Halo Reach
    2. Minecraft
    3. Battlefield 3
(I have not played Skyrim as of this review.)
There are my honest thoughts, and I expect most people to have differing opinions of my review. That is perfectly fine, because this was just how I perceived the game.

The graphics are excellent, but your experience may or may not be plagued by lag(Mine was 25% of the time). The maps are very unique and each one is very large, but because it is a console game, the maximum amount of players allowed in each game is 24. The small amount of players per game may give you the feeling that you are wandering aimlessly around a massive map looking for the opposing team. The vehicles offer an experience that Modern Warfare 3 cannot match, along with destructible environments that adds a sense of realism to the game. The controls and movement are decent but Modern Warfare 3 is better. Personally, I had trouble joining matches with my friends online which would irritate me greatly, leaving me to reset my console constantly until joining their squad was successful, but with future updates, this problem may not occur as much with me anymore. The deep customization for primary and secondary guns and vehicle upgrades will keep you occupied for a long time. Compared to Modern Warfare 3, BF3 wins, offering a more teamwork-oriented game play. The amount of EXP gained is not based on the amount kills you get like Modern Warfare 3, it's based on what your personal actions are, ranging from healing teammates with the Medic class, to repairing friendly vehicles with the Engineer class. If you want a game that is fun and rewarding to play with friends, play Battlefield 3. Expand

Battlefield 3 does not have anything new to offer in single player that games like Call of Duty have not already touched on. The story is simple, and by not going into any detail about it I can assure you that it is not one of this games most powerful feats. The shooting mechanics are simple but the game sure does give a great immersion effect to make the player feel like he/she is actually aware of what is going on. For example, whenever a bullet or rocket smashes into the cover 3 inches away from you, or when a barrage of bullets come flying towards you but just barely manage to miss you, there is a suppression effect. The screen begins to blur up based on the intensity, movements from your players joints become slightly hindered, ears begin to deafen based on the power and area of explosions, and a dramatic feeling of awesomeness begins to pump through your veins making you love every minute of it. Now onto everything else that matters...

TLDR - BF3 is the grown up version of the Modern Warfare series. If you can overlook that some of the maps/modes are a bit too "big" for the console player limitations this game is head and shoulders better than all the other shooters out of there.

I started console gaming playing CoD:MW. For me CoD:MW is the seminal version of the series, nothing comes close to how good it felt to play it. The game modes are great, the maps excellent, everyone played it at the time and they had the balance of flashy gizmo's such as killstreaks down well. Then came the crash, World at War. World at war as OK, but it wasn't nearly as good as MW and although me and all my friends tried hard to make it work it didn't, we couldn't go back to MW1 because all the fan boys had left. We moved across to PS3 for MW2 for some bizarre reason. Again anticipation and inspite of everyone jumping onto the new band wagon our collective motivation died again. MW2 isn't a bad game, its very much like MW1 GTi, with lots more bangs and widgets but it with all its shiny new features it fails to hit the mark. Its got too many fancy add-ons and bonuses and things lighting up the screen. Must be great when you are a kid and your parents are dumb enough to buy you a 15 rated game. For kids it must be like catnip to a kitten, and from what I've heard MW3 is even worse quote "like they've given the developers red bull, coke, mountain dew and amphetamines and said crack on!".

I came back to the XBOX recently, and bought MW2 because I thought it was a safe bet and BF3. The first thing I noticed about BF3 was first how ******* loud it is, basically every weapon and explosion is rendered in more HD than the graphics on the screen, and the graphics look pretty good. I initially jumped into any old game and found myself either being wasted quickly or running about without much to do. I started to think I didn't like it (because I was doing badly) and started to play CoD, but then I stuck with Team Deathmatch and things looked up. Essentially BF3 plays very differently to CoD. There's no UAV, there's no airstrike and no helicopter, its a very very raw experience compared to CoD. Its you, your mates versus a lot of people who want you dead.

Game modes are split between traditional TDM, Squad TDM )4 teams of 4 all against each other), Conquest which uses vehicles and massive maps with multiple capture points to fight over and Rush which is like conquest but once you have taken 2 capture points the map opens up to reveal more of the map. Rush and TDM are the stand out game modes with Rush pipping it for variety but TDM being a staple favourite to keep you going. Rush is a real thrill ride with the pressure on to attack or defend, the attackers win by taking all the control points and the defenders by holding the points out long enough and killing enough of you so you run out of respawns. Rush really makes good use of the massive maps but doesn't punish you for owning a console. Conquest can be the opposite, as when half of the team is in vehicles and you are running around a 5km long map action doesn't always rush towards you.

Weapons and classes wise BF3 is infinitely customisable with about 15-20 attachments to unlock with each weapon. Players don't have perks like MW, weapons have multiple attachment slots, so you can fit a scope, barrel attachment (laser dot, silencer) or an under slung mount (grip, 203 etc). The weapons "feel" much different to MW, they fall off with range and have individual kick back qualities which make them all different. The modifications to the weapons truly effect their performance and some only become truly good until you grind up to their unlocks. The weapons in BF3 make the game as you need to find which weapon works well for you and set it up accordingly.

Game play wise its a rollercoaster ride as you'd expect so I'll point out the main differences to other shooters:
Solider movement is realistic (you can't jump and shoot) meaning you have to think about where to go and how to move there.
Once in a squad you can spawn on other squad members to get right back into the action.
Environments are destructible, so find a camper in a building and simply remove the building and kill the sniper!
BF3 uses a suppression system. If someone is shooting "at" you but not necessarily hitting you, you become "suppressed". Your screen goes fuzzy and you can't aim as well until you have calmed down.

A final note goes to battlelog. Battlelog is a browser based system for reviewing your stats and allows you to track your performance, create a platoon for you and your friends and when you have the DLC maps track your progress towards new weapons (assignments). Its a really good system and lets you look at what weapons you should focus on and which to ignore.

    Conclusion
Buy with confidence a grown up shooter for grown ups!

Battlefield 3 is a breath of fresh air from anything else competing with it. It feels so different. Instead of which path to take to point and shoot at an enemy, it's either, which wall to blow up or what vehicle to take. Communication can make a better experience, when you're rolling down a road in a tank and your buddy is in it with you, calling out which building the sniper is in, that is picking off your team. Helicopters are probably my favorite, essential to bring a friend to talk with. Graphics bring the battlefield to life with stunning detail, even with some blurry textures. It does lack some content that some other games offer (theater mode, offline practice split screen or private unpaid server for example), but it's only a trade off when you have dedicated servers, compared to some other games that offer p2p. The campaign, however, is lackluster and adds a filler to the disc. It won't teach you how to fly a jet or a helicopter, it also won't tell you a good story, which I might add, is very similar how it's told, like Call of Duty: Black Ops. The Co-Op does it a little better, enabling you to test out how to fly a helicopter before you jump online, unlocking guns, exclusive to the mode. The DLC that has came out and will continue to be pumped out, not only adds new territories to destroy, but includes new vehicles, new modes and new weapons. As my first Battlefield game, this felt fresh, competitive and fun all at the same time. Sure there may be some lag here and there, but what the game offers will make you soon forget about it all as your flying through clouds hot on the trail of another jet, as you look at the battlefield below you and see an entirely different war than the one you're in. It's not often you can be in the top half of the scoreboard with 1 kill. The multiplayer is infinitely more fun with vehicle warfare, way better graphics, well designed maps, and a good server system (other than the fact you have to pay to make a server).

Granted, I wouldn't buy Battlefield solely for its campaign. It is short in game standards but is still a blast to play. Co-op campaign is fun also, but extremely short and lacks missions.

My only complaint from the multiplayer is that it lacks balance, so that it's harder for newbs to play than the pros, unless of course you pay EA for lame weapon packs. Also, it's nearly impossible to pilot some vehicles such as planes. The sounds are great, voice acting, SFX, but not so much in the music department. Dice listened to the fans and gave them what they wanted (a rarity these days) and with new content planned at regular intervals between june 2012 & march 2013, this behemoth game can only get bigger and better, even adding battlefield premium (akin to cod:elite but more powerful). Although no one I know buys any type of FPS for the campaign anyways.

The coop is a new addition to the Battlefield franchise (unless you consider BFBC2 Onslaught mode a type of coop). There are 6 missions averaging about 20 minutes each. However, you can unlock multiplayer guns in these missions are they are extremely fun to play. The 1st is a basic defend your position against tanks and enemies using mines, javelins, m249s, etc. The 2nd is a change of pace, you're in a scout helicopter tasked to protect two ground teams from incoming forces which include tanks and infantry, one player fully pilots while the other fully guns.

Another is a sniper mission where you are tasked to rescue hostages from a very far distance with silenced guns. This mission really felt like a first person Splinter Cell, it was my favorite of the six.

Another is a mix up of everything basically. You start silently to save an informant, then you go guns blazing through Iraqi streets and you ride in Humvees.

My second favorite was the one where you have to reach the garage and your in a hotel. It's basically on the run and you destroy everything in your path.

The last one was probably the shortest. You are tasked with disarming a subway bomb and essentially you go in with gas masks and mow down guys.

The multiplayer is where Battlefield shines. No joke, this is probably the best multiplayer I have ever played in my life. I'm ruling out Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty, Halo, Killzone, Gears of War... anything. There are hundreds of unlockables which include weapons, camo (for your character), weapon addons, specializations, tank upgrades, jet upgrades, ground vehicle upgrades (besides tanks), AA gun upgrades, scout helicopter upgrades, and attack helicopter upgrades. Currently, there are 33 vehicles in the game which include all of those mentioned above. The campaign is given a 7, the coop is a 8, and the multiplayer is a 9.5.

Overall, the game is about an 8/10.

It's amazing, if you want to try a new FPS... if you love the Battlefield series... or if you want the best multiplayer experience for FPS, get this game. It's worth every penny.

Still looks beautiful and handles very well, mantling is very useful and all weapons feel weighty and have recoil so happy about that. At the time of writing i'm gonna say not a fan of night time missions of which there have been a few as its not doing the Frostbite 2 engine justice as when you see the crumbling city in daylight, thats what its all about.

Multiplayer is as hard as ever but vehicles are very cool and the fact that you can spawn in them is even better. Very intense but again players are very hard to spot due to level of realism so can become frustrating if your not that good (like me). Never the less awesome game.

Battlefield 3 is really made for multiplayer and i don't think people should buy it for the single player experience - you got better options if you are looking for something more focused on that type of game experience. I love the immersive environments where objects can be moved or destroyed, environments that closely mimmick real life. Battlefield 3 does very well here as the landscape, buildings, and objects change from heavy fire and explosions. Nobody does this better in my opinion. The game also does very well in emulating live combat. There are some scripted parts which force certain movements which I'm not quite a fan of but overall it's palatable. The graphics are very good, not perfect, but I'd trade that for great gameplay and character movement any day. Downloading the HD resolution pack is a must do, it's a big file, but it looks great. The campaign was short and sweet with a great storyline and great character voice overs. The soundtrack is amazing. The reason I bought this game however, was for the multiplayer, and I have not been let down! The multiplayer is fantastic. I wasn't a fan of Bad Company 2's multiplayer. They went back to the drawing board on this one and scored huge. I love the fact that the game ranks you in different classes with different weapons and promotes you for different achievements unlike other military games...just as a soldier would pull rank and commendations in real life...this is also something that nobody else does better. The battlelog feature is awesome. The customization of your character is bar none. They have a really feature rich control menu that allows you to have a truly unique experience should you choose to switch classes or weapons. Excellent, the best when it comes to this.

I don't have preferences between BF or COD...I just love to play a great game.

The graphics are good, but it's not really a Battlefield of hell... but if your a campaign fan, don't buy this, but your average gamer; I'd buy this 60 dollar game just for the online mode.

While its true that the multiplayer is clearly the focus of BF3, DICE still felt the need to add a campaign to bulk out the experience, you know why? To justify the price tag. If Battlefield 3 is a multiplayer-focused game, then for **** sake, cut out the single player **** and cut the price tag, I don't want to fork out $90 (Aussie) for a game only to find out that the Multiplayer is the only component worth its salt, at least with CoD they put a reasonable amount of effort into the campaign while still producing amazing multiplayer, and then there's the other modes like Spec. Ops and Zombies.
Nonetheless, 8 is a good score, and that's because the multiplayer is amazing, but I would very much suggest waiting until the price drops to get BF3, save the big money for meaty games like Assassin's Creed Revelations, Halo: CE Anniversary and Skyrim (a thousand **** times, buy Skyrim)

The big problem I have however, is how difficult it is to connect to a match as a group. I regularly game with 3 other guys, and almost every time we search for a match or join a server, we get placed on opposite teams. Sometimes, half of us don't even make it to the game because the server only had room for some of us. Most other online FPSes find you a game based around your party, but in BF3 they break up your party to put you in a game. Pretty lame. Expand

The characters are annoying, and this makes for an unimaginable and frustrating story that will turn off even the most diehard Battlefield fans. But, that's not what makes Battlefield is it? The multiplayer returns, following almost identically to Bad Company 2 in almost every facet. From the game modes, to the weapon sounds, this game does everything identical to BC2. The game does feel fresh though, upgraded with a new graphics engine and a new destruction engine. The game does impress in more than one way online, especially when it comes to the combat. The jets and tanks make a triumphant comeback and manages to be quite balanced for the online warfare. The destruction engine holds up well online, but not close to the standard that is in the single-player. At times, the game can feel unbalanced and spotty. The destruction engine seems to work at times, and refuses to work at others. The destruction engine also causes glitches and awkward deaths following combat. The game is good and it manages to stay fresh, even though the similarities with its predecessor being obvious. Not a bad game, and I would recommend it to anyone; especially the online. The Multiplayer, however, is some of the best I've ever played. There are some extremely minor issues with it, but they are very easy to overlook. The occasional texture pop and, well, Issues with EAs crappy servers don't detract from the awesomeness that is BF3 Multiplayer. The maps are very well done, the gametypes are a bit limited, but there is definitely some variety. Most of all its just a blast. Lots of Unlocks, lots of destruction, lots of fun. Concerning bugs and lag online...well for lag consult your ISP, and for bugs that's just one of the flaws of frostbite 2. Squad connection issues, visual hiccups, falling through the game's geography, lag, lag, and more lag and sadly some of those issues are still around. Attempting to join a game as a squad is almost impossible. Someone gets dropped back to the menus, others get in but are put on opposite teams, or we all get in a game but they are completely different games. Really frustrating and an issue that was in the beta that did not get remedied. A main ingredient that makes this game great is working as a team and how are we to work as a team if we can't all be on the same one? Silly and sloppy DICE. Lag issues are still here and are still a negative but I'm a little more understanding and lenient about this. I remember in the first month of Bad Company 2 that the game was almost not playable because of horrible connection issues. Add that with me knowing that it's a rarity that a game's online experience is flawless in the first week of its launch and I'm not too stressed out about it. The lag will get fixed. Eventually. But even though I'm unhappy with some of the technical issues this game is pretty great. The multiplayer still has all the fun and great "oh my god moments" that make this franchise a treat to play. Yes. You can go prone that can be annoying especially for those who played BC2 and not used to it, but I've learned to embrace it. Little is better than being a support class, going prone, propping up my light machine gun, and putting down deadly suppressive fire as my teammates and I cap off a flag. Yes. The prone ability and lack of an informative kill cam does give snipers a leg up, but this is when communication between squad mates and spotting is key. The maps out of the box are diverse and fun. There's been some who said the maps are too big but DICE has already made them smaller to fit the 24 player console cap and I think they did a nice job making sure there's enough room to roam but compact enough to still be able to find the action. The other nice touches like being visually affected by suppressive fire, being able to disable vehicles, being able to get knifed only in the back, how the lighting system affects the gameplay, and the extensive reward system, are just some of the things that I found to be great additions. The single player is a so-so story told through flashbacks. These memories allow players to experience huge explosions and earthquakes but then will ask you to follow a pilot around and sit in a jet doing nothing but looking at plane flaps. An odd mix of excitement and boredom and something that could use a little Sweet Water or Haggard to make it worth my while. But, one should be getting this title for the multiplayer and not the single player so I'm okay. Luckily, this title can only get better and I'm excited to see DICE make the required fixes and give it that layer of polish it should have had in the first place. Sure. One could wait to buy this game to avoid the growing pains but one would miss out. The thrill and excitement of the online gameplay is well worth any glitch induced headaches. Expand

For the most part though, the campaign is easily forgettable, and does little to emotionally involve you with your characters; you'll feel like you're controlling faceless automatons. Co-op, again, is split between bland action and thrilling, heart-in-mouth gameplay. The helicopter escort mission in particular can be brilliant fun with a good friend, while more corridor roaming action is most certainly not welcome, which is a shame, as that is what most of the missions consist of.

Multiplayer is another beast entirely. Diving out of the way, missing 30 mil bullets by centimeters, charging into a room and gunning down an entirely squad, parachuting in for a quiet knife kill... Battlefield 3's online creates moments effortlessly. The vehicles are integrated seamlessly into gameplay, and complement the infantry based action that makes up the majority of firefights perfectly. The maps are well-designed, with MCOM stations and flags placed in locations that are sure to result in fast paced combat. The classes are well balanced also, each thriving in a key area, but remaining versatile enough so that a team made up predominantly of a certain class is unlikely to be disadvantaged.

A thoroughly enjoyable game, spoiled by an "average" campaign, but redeemed with one of the most compelling multiplayer modes of the last few years. 8/10.

However, I have found a way to resolve this problem; bring back air superiority from Battlefield 1943 and take out jets in the regular multiplayer. That way, anyone who wants to fly a jet can simply go into air superiority and fly the jet to their hearts content. Overall, Battlefield 3 is a good game. It repairs the flaws of the bad company series while upgrading on the good things, however, there's still some good with bad. While destroying a tank, chopper, or jet won't always render you a kill, it's also nice that the pilot of the vehicle has a chance to escape before death. The graphics are amazing even in multiplayer(where the bad company series seemed to have dumbed itself down a bit). The explosions are almost realistic and the destruction of buildings is almost jaw dropping to watch, yet feel a bit limited compared to the destruction in bad company series, in that it's much harder to blow a wall out. That said, it's also a bit more realistic in that aspect. The bullet drop and having to lead targets makes the combat aspects of the game more enjoyable for players like me that understand you're not gonna shoot the guy running across your screen half the map away in the head if you try shooting where he is instead of where he'll be. My issues with the game fall under seperate aspects. The coop. is weak at best, and the campaign feels a bit cod'esk in it's linear playstyle, yet it's still less linear than cod, but more so than the bad company series, still, having a campaign at all in a series that with 1942, vietnam, bf2, and 2142 never had a campaign, it's nice to see they put themselves in that realm and did so in a way to make them a strong competetor against the fps giant that is the cod series. With multiplayer my issues aren't with graphics, physics, or anything like that, but fall more in line with the guns and sites themselves. For instance a sniper will have to compete with bullet drop, where as a player with an assault rifle, shotgun with slugs, smg, or lmg seem to have much less issues with bullet drop. The sniper must aim above you to hit you at a certain distance, yet that guy with the saw can aim staight at you from the same distance and still hit you. it's almost rediculous how accurate weapons like saws and 240s are yet weapons like m4s and m16s are less accurate, which in my experience is just the opposite, bipod or not. Then you come into sites such as the unlocked site for each weapon which is labelled as a night vision sight, yet gives you the view of a thermal site, but yet is still blinded by flashlights and laser pointers the way and actual night vision site would be. It's a bit confusing. Perhaps one of the patches that dice releases should fix the bullet drop of non-snip weapons to be realistic, and perhaps they should give night vision sites the green hue of actual night vision and perhaps add thermal as another site that isnt' blinded by lights and lasers. Oh, and what's up with being blinded by flash lights in broad day light, while standing out in the sun??? Anyone else catch that?? Overall though, battlefield 3 is quite an enjoyable game besides the campaign and coop. As a matter of fact, I can't bring myself to keep playing the same old boring coop rounds over and over again in order to unlock all those weapons. The only one of them that really seems worth it anyway was the rex. Apart from that, I've already pulled several hours out of the game, and still have yet to make a dent in the amount of weapons, gadgets, perks, and vehicle unlocks their are in this game. So i'm knocking off half a point for each of the issues that I have with it. -0.5 for bullet drop on non-snip weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for sites and accuracy of weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for a short campaign(though it's suprising to me for a battlefield to even have a campaign), -0.5 for the weak at best coop. Overall 8. I enjoy it quite a bit, and with the back to karkand map pack we're not only getting 4 new maps, but 3 new vehicles(probably tied specifically to these maps), and 10 new weapons. Lets just hope they bring back the sip line from the battlefield 2 expansion. That would put a whole new twist on a game like this.

If you're looking for a great single player campaign you're out of luck, rent BF3 or pick it up in the bargain bin. If you're looking for the best online multiplayer action then BF3 is your game hands down.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
