Battlefield 3 is an extremely enjoyable game. The graphics are slick. The single-player is excellent. When I was playing it, I forgot it was a Battlefield game. But, the main event IS the multiplayer. It has a lot of re-playability. My only beef with it was that there are not a lot of maps, but that is nothing. An excellent choice if you like to play multiplayer.

In addition the path that the player has to take is way to linear, you can't think "oh there's a tank there I'll run all the way around it and blow it up from behind" You will most likely be told what to do, where to stand and how to do it. The best part of BF3 has to be it's multiplayer, I would pay £45 just for multiplayer. Every time a match is played it is different, I may be a jet fighter one match, then a tank commander a second match, it is completely unpredictable. Expand

I'm new to the franchise and this franchise has potential to take down the COD franchise in a year or two. Sad thing is that once this franchise blows up like COD did, I'll be one of the first bad mouthing it for being the same as the one before. Here's to enjoying the BF franchise for a year or two without the hype.

Awesome game, lot of action, nice soundtrack, in-game sounds. Single Player could be better, but Multiplayer fix everything. I really like this game and I'm really happy that I bought it :) I never been dissapointed about Battlefield series, and I hope I never will. I recommend this game to everyone

I would pay 60 $ simply for the multiplayer experience, without exaggerating. Campaign: eh, okay. It could have added destruction and maybe like the ability to control you're squad to make it more fun. The story line was okay, yes its about nuclear bombs about to destroy America but its told in an original way. The voice acting was amazing and you often felt like you really were in the military(except on your couch), which probably was the developers first goal. I would pay about 5-10$ for the campaign. Co-op: great; fun, hard but wish their was more to it, I wish that the campaign was just one giant co-op experience with maybe four people. I would pay 10$ but would pay a lot more if it was longer.
Extras: The destruction, the audio and the graphics were amazing, would have liked to see more character customization but hey, cant complain. +5$
Overall I'd pay more than the games worth for it, no the campaign and the co-op was short but the multiplayer is the best I have ever seen.

WOW. This is truly a masterpiece. Ever since the start of the battlefield franchise they've come a long way. Every BF game that has released progressively gets better and better. As much as I replay this game, I still can't get over the fact that I feel slightly cheated. Because it's Battlefield, I'll let it pass. As far as control wise, I found it quick and easy to pick up and play and get into. Heck my 13 year old son mastered it in a week. All in all this is a well rounded game and if there is to be a part 4, they should learn from their mistakes and focus on the campiagn levels as much as they do the multi-player. Expand

so, online is basically the best fps experience you can have today, great graphics, balanced guns and vehicles, and nothing seems "cheap". games can last up to 45 minutes which is just amazing and winning a game that goes that long just adds more fun to it. Also each game is different since dice gives you a huge map, and lots of possibilities to go through those maps (except the 3 maps that are more close quartered, dont get me wrong they are still fun just a little more call of duty ish). focus on teamwork is key in this game, so when you get that lone sniper complaining how bad the game is, its because hes just in it to get kills for himself, and isnt actually playing the game the way it should be played. Rush is a great gamemode and so is conquest, the others i dont really care about because they play on a smaller scale, and that is not why I buy battlefield games.

overall its good, call of duty is bad, so deal with it

I have to disagree with the previous review of Chickencantgowi. To base a review on a game on "how good or in his case bad one plays" is ridiculous. The platoon system for example is a great tool to find players that want to play more tactically... If you dont use the tools you are given properly it is not the fault of the game.

New Players: It might be a little bit frustrating for people
I have to disagree with the previous review of Chickencantgowi. To base a review on a game on "how good or in his case bad one plays" is ridiculous. The platoon system for example is a great tool to find players that want to play more tactically... If you dont use the tools you are given properly it is not the fault of the game.

    New Players:
It might be a little bit frustrating for people who are just buying it now as there are so many people who unlocked the better weapons already, but if you get through that you will find a great multiplayer experience with great graphics, awesome sound and tactical gameplay. Maps:
Maps are huge in conquest but you can feel your pulse raising when a sniper bullet whizzes over your head. There are so many "Battlefield moments" I experienced, too many to list. The destructable environment makes each match (even on the same map) unique... it is really stunning to be in a safe house and moments later the roof drops on your head... Also the balance between wide open and small alley maps is great. The only map that does not work out too good is Operation Metro (from the beta) because of the bottle neck.

    Vehicles:
The ground vehicles are very easy to handle and the special unlocks are great... Jets & Helicopters are harder to master but with practice you will do fine with them too.

    Weapons:
A great variety of weaponry is at your disposal. Is is really motivating to unlock weapons and then unlock the accessories. There are so many weapons in this game and each one feels different. Sniping is a little bit harder to master as you have to compensate for bullet drop, but once you got the jist of it, it is really addictive to be victorious in a sniper duel.

    Leveling & Experience:
For each action you do you will get XP. I like the fact that you get the same amount of XP for reviving a teammate as for killing a enemy. Repairing, resupplying ammo, healing teammates and spotting enemies will give you XP. A very motivating and rewarding system. Back to Karkand DLC:
The DLC is a great addition to the already extensive package you get with the game alone. Battlefield veterans will feel homy as a few of the best MP maps of Battlefield 2 (not Bad Company 2) are available now in an updated version. Campaign:
Sadly, the campaign is not as good as other shooters on the market. I found the pacing a little bit too slow and the destruction is not used as good as in Bad Company 2. But Battlefield always was a multiplayer game first...

    Tools outside the game:
Battlelog is a great statistic tool that comes free of charge with the game. It is extremely lucid and you can follow your stats with ease. You also can join a platoon which makes it very easy to find players that want to play tactically.

Despite the medicore campaign (which I kind of expected) the multiplayer of BF3 is one of the best experiences you will have. It is more realistic (for a video game) than its competitors and very rewarding. Running & gunning wont take you far, a tactical approach will give you the edge over your enemies. The great quality of the DLC adds to the total package. Overall I have to give this masterpiece a 10/10.

Bugs? only bugs i get are bugs when sometimes the sound will bug out if too many explosions happen around me at one time. Constantly spawn killed by snipers? recon is the least played class so how can you get killed that much plus sniping isnt like COD where you can do 360 no scopes and think ur awesome, its legit sniping in battlefield. Controls are bad? wtf its the same controls as COD with the addition of spotting. Dice rushed bf3? they spent 3 years developing bf3 and frostbite 2 and u call this instead of mw3 which got one year to be developed rushed? Small maps? Get ur eyes checked. but i will admit the campaign is pretty boring and co op is pretty short. but its not that big of a deal this is like one slice of a whole pizza. NOW THAT SOME LIES ARE CLEARED, lets talk about what bf3 is good at. bf3 has by far the best graphics i have seen even if its not at bf3s best because of console limitations and those who say bf3 has bad graphics have to check their eyes. bf3 has its own server hosts so no more annoying host migration *cough* *cough* *COD*. lag is not a problem in bf3 as it rarely lags at all. the maps are a great change from CODs tightly packed maps they feelnice and open and give you space to think. many people will fail and give bf3 a bad review because theyve played COD for too long and they expect all fps to be like that. BF3 IS NOT COD!!!! bf3 has its own style and you have to be dedicated to learn how the game works. campers are no problem because once i demolish their cover theyll have to taste the bullets from my m416. vehicles make jobs easy to do but their not invincible so you have to learn to retreat not think ur chuck norris' son and blast at air. i have much more good stuff to say but it will all be revealed when you buy bf3. remember if u go into battlefield with COD tactics, youll never grasp the true awesomeness of bf3 Expand

Ok i am not not going to be baised at all with this review like some of these people who gave this a 10 or a 1 i guess you can say the outliers. Now being a primarly multiplayer game i will first review the multiplayer first off. Ok the multiplayer isn't as good as BC2 first off. This is because the fact that not even half of the enviornment is completely destructable and that it feels a like they added what i like to call pointless stuff. One of them is the attachments which sometimes i get really confused with. Some examples are bibods for carbines, that is stupid in a sense that carbine don't usaually don't have that much reacoil and that they don't have that much distance which is one of the perks of bibod to do. Another example for specifically carbines is the dlc guns have the zoom by 6 scope which is really pointless because they don't have power at the distance. Now because that you don't have to choose those attachments its not going to bring down the multiplayer score that much. One thing that really brougt it down for me was the destruction. This is not only because it was a huge part of BC2 that i loved and kept the replayability but the tactics. Now its really wierd distruction in BF3 the things you can destroy are mostly pointless like in Grand Bazaar you can blow a hole in the wall down the long hall to the second checkpoints. I find that stupid because nobody is going to be behind that wall before you blow it up. But then you can't fully destrory the building where there could multiple enemies. Now i am not only talking about this map in particular but most maps in BF3 are that way. Now the leveling system too is not as good as BC2 it doesn't feel like i choose a class because of helping the team but to get that next cononel service star for that class and i think they should of made the levels longer until you reach cononel this is because reaching cononel should feel like you worked really hard to get there but not that feeling because everyone else is a cononel now you have this unlock limbo where the game expects you to do that agian 100 times to reach max level with no unlocks. i think thats why they should of worked on this a little make it feel special that you got to that level. Now because of these two main reasons, i will give the multiplayer a 7/10. It was fun and some maps were good but it just didn't live up to the hype of what it was suppose to be. Now we get into the campaign, and it is really bad. I think of a campaign like a story and a gameplay style close to multiplayer. Sadly BF3 does not deliever on either of these. First off the characters and character developement are terrible, honestly i would care if my guy at the end got his head blown off by the terrorist trying to bomb the metro. This same goes for the other characters, i honestly didn't care that two guys were killed when i was invading the mansion or when dimitris friend was impaled by a pole. The reason why i didn't care is because of that nobody felt like they had a personality they all felt like 2D characters in a Michael Bay movie. Then the oddest thing from a multiplayer game open world to have a very linear Single player to the point of where if you walk a couple of feet away you get a mission fail. Though even with these faults single player fighting can be fun with the chance of being melee killed make for some suspense and the graphics look better then multiplayers. Overall though the single player is a 3/10. Now what dice prides itself is the graphics and sound. Sound is really cool now i haven't shot these caliber of guns before but i do know that even in BC2 they recorded the gun sounds with real guns with real ammo, obviously though down a range but still really good effort in sound. Sound is without a doubt a 10/10. And the graphics are good at times. Its sometimes low resolution at distance. But with weather effects and lighting it can be really good. So overall graphics is a 8/10. Not the best but definatly above average. Now the content is ok but it isn't as good as amount of CoD did especially when it comes to Co-op. This is why i was holding off a real review at first because i thought that Co-op would get a few maps from DLC. But alas that hasn't happened yet and its been out for 8 months. Now the multiplayer content is good you get tons of attachments though some of them are pointless you get a good amount. Also the amount of maps and guns themselfs will increase over time. But then it comes to story and this is where it falls. Overall though not a bad game just a game that was obviously a test for Frostbite 2. And it needs alot of work to be as good as BC2 was Overall this game recieves a 28/40 or a 7/10. Expand

The multiplayer is, of course, the main point of this game and Dice definitely did not disappoint on this aspect. The sounds of everything from the guns to the crashing of helicopters and jets feels very much alive and real (try playing with turtle beaches or similar headphones to get an even better sound experience). The game literally makes you feel as though you are a part of a well oiled war machine pushing through and trying to capture the next strategic strongpoint for the greater good of your armyIf you don't like this game than your probably a CoD fanboy that lives in your parents basement. I am currently studying game design and therefore have taken a new approach to playing and reviewing games. That being said you must take into account the fact that the Xbox version is a converted version from the PC. This game series was not meant for the consoles and so there will be flaws here and there that mods will not be able to fix. Appreciate the game for what it is and enjoy it to the fullest. This game should not be a miss and if you are a hardcore gamer than you will most definitely pick this game up and add it to your collection of games you will never take back. Expand

People who give this bad are cod fanboys. This game has no multiplayer bugs, i haven't gotten far in campaign but I don't do that anyway. This is mostly a MP game. Recoils are exactly like real life where cod has no recoils on guns. Huge maps, awesome. You can fly around in jets, tanks, helis, jeeps and some more vehicles. Definetly a much better game then gay cod.

I have to say first off that the graphical prowess in the game is bar none unchallenged by any other shooter games out there other then the Crysis games. Battlefield boost exceptionally well Multiplayer action letting you play the role of ground forces and the ability to control vehicles to help aid in tactical objective game play in such modes as Conquest and Rush. While all I can say good things for the multiplayer section, the single player is a completely different story. The storyline presented was fairly believable and good enough to keep playing through to see it end, however the plot lines get ridiculous at times and the enemies are cheap, often killing you with a couple of shots in even the easiest of difficulties. The story has a good solid background but failed to delivered on it and leave players unsatisfied with the results. You play through several levels that seems vibrants and large yet there isn't a sense of exploring the open area since there isn't any special items or secret packages to collect it makes the scenery just there to look at. Overall this game is only for the multiplayer shooter enthusiasts only, if you are looking a decent single player then this won't disapoint you only leaving less then enthuse about playing it other then that this game deserves to be purchased for the multiplayer alone Expand

This difference between this game and bf2 is astonishing. Single player is bland as with most shooters but the multiplayer shines. Such a great game full of innovation not just the same grenade spamming twitch fest. Call of duty needs to learn a lesson and change up they're stale formula if they wanna compete.

The class creation system is simple--which is one of the biggest problems with cod for me--- no piles of killstreaks to chose between and stacks of perks to overcomplicate things. Honestly, the fact that I can go through a game and not get killed by some bs killstreak is reason enough to try this game. In short, this game has completely overshadowed cod for me. Unless if black ops 2 really blows the competition out of the water, I probably wont even try that series for awhile. BF3 is just more entertaining to me. If I want fast-paced combat, I can hop into tdm which is very similar to cod; or if I want some substance to my game I can play rush or conquest for some nice vehicle variety. Expand

Sorry I don't think so, Modern Warfare step down, Battlefield 3 is where the real challenge lies and what with the Back to Karkland, Close Quarters and Armoured Kill packs promising more action, newer planes, maps, tanks and guns then you have seriously got to think that Modern Warfare's dominance is at an end or at lease waning.

Okay yes the game does have it's flaws in the eyes of the people who play Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Yes the game is not anything like those games and that's what EA was going for, "A more realistic game-play." I love this game and ever since Battlefield Bad Company 2 came out I have not been able to put my controller down. This game offers so much and also brings so much to the table such as things like. More realistic sniper shooting, better weapons, drive-able vehicles, flying jets, and all the new gadgets. This game is by far the best war game I have played hands down. Now yes there are some things that could need improving such as when your playing normal mode it seems to me that it takes half a magazine to take down an enemy and a full of pistol ammo. I think if they could fix it and make it a little more reasonable then I might play normal mode more often. So this concludes my review of Battlefield 3, I recommend to anyone looking for a more realistic game-play and something that is really intense to go pick this game up when you get the chance you won't be disappointed.

Vehicles are back and better than ever, with a large variety of ground and aerial vehicles. Battlefield 3 also has some new maps and has added even more with dlc. While some of the maps are slower paced especially on the console versions, it's smooth and balanced gameplay definitely makes up for it. Now the negatives, I don't have many gripes with the game except with the campaign. To be honest the campaign in my opinion is mediocre and unoriginal. While it does have some interesting missions the story itself just has you not caring in the end, still it's definitely worth a look because of it's realism. Overall Battlefield 3 gets a perfect 10/10 score just because of it's multiplayer, but if I could I would give it a 9.5 for not being a complete package due to lack of an interesting campaign. Expand

Battlefield 3 has really good graphics. It was voted second place for graphics in 2012, first was Halo 4. Some people play games for the graphics ,so those type of people would love this game. The graphics in the game look really realistic and 3d. You should look for a person running in this game because it looks real.

Battlefield 3 campaign mode mode is epic. The campaign for battlefield 3 is really interesting, intense, and awesome. It is interesting because it has really good stories and sometimes it has detective missions so it makes it more interesting. It is intense because in the last mission you have to kill a man before he nukes New York. It is awesome because the campaign is long and not really short.

If you are bored playing missions and want to play with real people luckily Battlefield 3 has some cool xbox live features. I like the xbox live features because you could play with your friends or random people and you get to drive anything you want in this mode. One more reason why I like the xbox live features is because you can also kill your friends.
In conclusion you should get Battlefield 3 because it has a good campaign, good graphics, and awesome xbox live features. That is why you should get Battlefield 3.

This Battlefield, like others before it, takes patience to figure out and grow into. It's not the streamlined COD experience that rewards lone-wolf play, and as a result it takes a while to learn how to play the right way.

Ok got that out of the way now for what youve been waiting for. I have played battlefiled 1942, BF 2, BFBC, BFBC 2, all the way up to battlefield 3. Ive also played the cod series. with that being said I ve been waiting for this game for 6 yrs. and I have to say Im not disapointed! The graphics are great install the hd texure pack! The 360 version looks like the pc version on required specs. which isn't bad at all! The sound in 7.1 or 5.1 you can hear everything from the buildings falling apart, literaly you can hear peices of ruble falling off of buldings. Thats awesome, Bullets fling by you teammates chater.EA did a great job of the sound mixing. Now for the game play BF 3 does a great job of bringing something for every one so to speak. You have your conquest and rush game types which take place on huge maps. while big in size they also have tight spaces. ie ally ways and building hallways to cut through. which makes it great for stake outs. All the deathmatch modes come on smaller maps they are still good size just nothing compaired to the objective based game modes. Some maps are so big you have tanks, jets, and choppers, (oh my) sorry had to. Thre prestation is good. anyone farmiler with battlefield 2 you will notice quickly that its alot like it in the menus. You can see the servers you have played on, save your favorite servers and search for what ever game type your little heart desires. With all of this being said. 6 yrs waiting 2 BFBC's l8r. Which were ok and God only knows how many COD's which is starting to get stagnet. same stuff differant coat of paint each yr. Im rambling anyway if you play well with others and play in a squad thats where BF 3 pays of big. You and your friends will have a great time with this game if your a lone wolf stick with COD! See you on the battlefield!

However, the multiplayer in this game is so good that it alone is worth picking the game up for it. It gets really hectic in the open fields, teamwork is really encouraged, there's tons of things to unlock and all of the classes are fun to play. I also like the co-op mode in this game. What sucks is that there's only 6 missions and they're over pretty quick. Overall, it isn't a innovative first-person shooter but it's probably one of the best this generation. Expand

One thing I have always loved about Battlefield is it stands very far apart from Call of Duty, the guns are by far more realistic acting in the game. COD to me is a cage match of pissed off players literally sprinting around pumping as much lead as possible at one another, but its fun..its entertaining I get it. The thing I absolutely adore about battlefield is the fact you have to play it with a mindset of I can die at any second from any direction. But you can't just run and gun for the most part in battlefield, you have to use your senses, your brain, out smart your opponent. Its not a competition to see who can spray the most lead in hopes of getting the kill, your success falls on your accuracy, your choices of what to do & where to go under heat, and playing resourcefully. Its not just a point your reticule on your opponent and shoot, the bullet trajectory and range is very impressive in this game. Although the maps are smaller and the number of players smaller as well in the console version, which i can understand considering the hardware most computers have today compared to the 360. The game gives you lots of options for server functions and filters to find exactly the type of game you are seeking. The only issue i have ever had with BF and this falls in with many games out there...i wish there was a little piece of software in the game that could safely spawn you into the game without being tossed in between a fire fight or in front of an enemy player. I don't know how many times I have spawned into a bullet.. Expand

Graphics, think of Crysis 2, only I would give BF3 the edge due too the amount of things the graphics do, you will see tree's moving with the wind, blown over by explosions, and buildings crumbling. This game only suffers due to the hype it had, I was expecting a game that pushed consoles beyond what we had seen before. Obviously they didnt deliver on that, but they did deliver a game I believe pushed it to its limits. If your an avid COD player you probably wont like this as much as COD. Is it better than COD, that depends on the player. But if you want a war game that most closely simulates real war, I dont think you will find a game that comes closer to it on the current consoles. Multiplayer wise I would say it falls between COD games and previous BF games, so it offers something to both. Myself I loved COD, and my brother loves BF games. On this games the smaller maps I love he hates and the big ones, vice versa. I havent played the campaign, but I didnt buy this game for the 1 player, I brought it for the multiplayer and so far, I have been loving it. As I said earlier, this games main downfall was the hype, if not for that I think it would have gotten alot higher scores and adulation than it is now. For hardcore COD players, wait for MW2, for everyone ones else who wants a great mulitplayer game, or the most realistic, give Battlefield 3 a try, you wont regret it. P.S. Never got into a multiplayer for more than an hour before, although I should maybe have given them more time. The single player is as bad as the reviews state. It feels poorly executed, enemies pile into scenarios in an unconvincing way, the engine doesn't suit it and it just feels wrong. That, along with the cheap deaths, makes it frankly irritating.
Having being hyped by friends about the multiplayer, young and old, with different expectations, that fact that a cross section of people I knew were raving about this piqued my interest. The multiplayer is amazing. The openness of some maps, close quarters of others, animation, control feel and every other aspect is spot on. Sometimes, when concentrating on individual aspects, reviews can miss the overall vibe and feel of a game, the most improtant aspect. This one is superb, it nails it and drags you right in. I'm forever chasing the next attachment or ribbon, examining tactics, shouting at the TV, punching the air. As someone who thought I was a single player only, tempted to cancel my xbox live gold, this has fully converted me. The sheer depth and addtive quality is really immersive. Hope this helps. Has to be a 9 as a solid SP would have surely been possible - but 10 for the only aspect most will touch....

I would invite my friends to the game and have enormous emounts of fun with vehicles, c4, etc. Since the game was released many patches fixed glitches and balanced out some weapons that were pretty annoying/OP. Graphics on PC will obviously be better unless you have a crappy comp but on console theyre still pretty good. This is the first Battfield game is have ever played and I am very impressed considering I come from a halo/cod gaming Backround. DICE is continuing to fix bugs and make the servers better and I have seen the improvements. There really isnt much to say but I do rate games on how fun they are, wether they made me laugh, enjoy myself with gameplay/story/dialogue or screwing around. IMO CoD has onlu beat this game in terms of sales. I would like to see more improvement on this game with servers and glitches. (a lot of ppl are complaining about the squads joining issues and to do that just go to server browser, it's easier for your friends to join you. Also don't get this game without Xbox live, it isn't worth it just for campaign ) I forgot to mention the co op campaign. It is related the to the single player campaign but from different soldiers PoV. While some the missions are a bit boring and cliche, I had fun playing it over and over with my friends. Also no split screening for co op and MP so there is that. Expand

Battlefield 3 is first and foremost a Battlefield game. If you someone calls this game a Modern Warfare ripoff, that is a very incorrect statement. If you someone calls this game a Modern Warfare ripoff, that is a very incorrect statement. Firstly Battlefield 2 (online FPS set in a modern time with modern weaponry) came out 2 whole years before Call of Duty 4. Second the two franchises play entirely different, especially with BF3's Frostbite 2.0 engine. The new engine truly is a game changer. The single player campaign is really the weakest part of the game. With every progression in the plot you see more and more cliched elements, these elements are done relatively well but have been done before so often the entire single player feels borrowed. The story is passable but very unremarkable with terrorists threatening to start World War 3 (sound familiar Call of Duty fans?).

The real reason to play Battlefield 3 is the Multiplayer. It is very unique in how it plays with its structure and feel. Certain aspects still feel very "Battlefield" like the weapons and the vehicles still a joy to use, and the conquest mode is back once again and is untouched in it's implementation. Another returning mode is "Rush" and was the most fun I've had in a shooter when I first played in in Bad Company 2 and is even better now with the Frostbite 2.0 engine. The maps are very well done and although they are smaller on the console versions being confined to a smaller area with guardians that kill you when you stray outside the designated area (that doesn't keep you from trying sometimes to make a run through these "out of area" routes that can sometimes give you a great vantage point for playing sniper or simply flanking an enemy or vehicle that's been mowing your comrades down.) There is also the use of parachutes in Battlefield 3, a subtle feature that can and often does create some exciting situations, be it bailing out of a disabled aircraft, the recon class can drop radio spawn points that allow your squad mates to parachute into an area deep in enemy territory, or my personal favorite... BASE JUMPING. There are instances in Rush mode where as attackers you destroy the M-Comm stations and the defenders fall back to the next level, that next level is at the bottom of a cliff and as attackers your new spawn point is at the top of this cliff, pure genius and so fun to parachute down laying fire down or spot enemies and pickup some easy spot bonuses as you sail to Terra Firma. This all is great and if I could split this review into two I would give the single player a 7 and the multiplayer an emphatic 10. Now there have been reported problems with both the single and multiplayer but I have yet to encounter any real problems. Occasional high ping here and there can cause your to jump around on the map for a second I've found (running a constant ping on my network monitoring software revealed the lags were coinciding with a single high ping but not with every high ping) but this happens so little that it's barely worth mentioning. The ability to browse servers is another welcome addition and one you don't see on console online play often, but you can find a match very quickly and easily using the quick match option, especially if you're alone, most the time it takes less than 3 seconds to hit a server and start loading the map. All in all there's very little wrong with the multiplayer while it does so many things exceptionally well. If you have the money and can't decide which FPS franchise to buy this year, by all means you should buy both, and if you are limited on funds and have to pick save up a few bucks and give this one a rent before you blindly go out and sink your $60 bucks on CoD. This game may not appeal to all types but those that it does will have an experience unlike any other in the Online FPS genre in this current generation.

Multiplayer is where it's at and that has hit the nail on the head, even with "just" 24 players on a map. It's fun in all points that made the Battlefield-franchise popular.

Anyone who had fun with previous Battlefield games will find a worthy sequel that improved everything that was needed to be improved.

    Review time.
In order of what you first experience.
Visuals: 8, the game does a very good job of showing of the full potential of the xbox360. However in saying that, you can already see signs where the developers had to substitute detail in one area to maximise it in another. Eg: some areas show signs of complete unity of light, shadow and texture, while others skimp out on the above to maximise the frame-rate in high action areas. If you have a HDD, you can install the texture pack which boosts the depth of textures while adding new ones.
Sound: 10, Brilliant Sound, all authentic and the explosions sound insane. If you have a quality surround sound system the game shines.
Gameplay: 7 Ok...here's the tricky part...and il let you guys see it for yourself when you pick up the game. But the game does suffer from some akward game-play moments. Firstly maximising the graphical potential of the game has influenced the framerate. At times the game does feel slow, in others its ok. The single player story, does play well, but is rather short. However the shortness does leave you with a few memorable scenes. Online: 10, the game shines. There is no other title out there that offers such a large expanse to battle against your friends with. The huge amount of vehicles, and the experience of fighting in a true battlefield is everlasting. The sound of jets above you going nuts in dogfights, the sound of tanks in a battle in a field next to you, it all feels like your really in a game where your little self can make a huge influence. Now if only EA fixed there servers............

The campaign may need polish, but it does a good job of showing off the engines dynamic lighting and cosmetic damage. The multiplayer is a great experience and free dlc with the limited addition doesn't hurt either. The co-op lacks depth, but its still a fun playthrough with a friend and overall the game is worth its price. Well, Battlefield 3 for Xbox360 IS for us. It's like pick-up ball that's just competitive enough without being too serious for itself.
As a consumer of average video game consumption, i've shopped through the most oft-recommended/advertised multiplayer shooter series on Xbox360: Gears of War, Halo, and Call of Duty. All were fun, but with major drawbacks. Gears had mech-like sluggish characters. Halo was like one long frenetic ninja duel. And Call of Duty had poor graphics and an unbearable amount of eerily over-committed...students of the game. Battlefield 3 hits the sweet spot: just realistic enough that your actions actually have an impact despite lacking some gaming trick, yet maintaining a good pace throughout. Most importantly, Battlefield 3's multiplayer makes, well, playing with multiple players fun. There's always someone to work in teams with. Your actions make a meaningful contribution to the team even if you're not individually a skilled killer. Other players are encouraging and, if you feel disheartened from dying many times, there is always someone on your team to deploy next to and follow their lead. There are fewer trash-talking cowards hiding behind their screen names here because--i'm guessing--they generally don't have the patience for a team effort. Personally, i believe you will enjoy this game: actually "enjoy", not just "appreciate". That is the best praise i have for a video game, and the only merit a video game truly earns to begin with.
NOTE: I have only played the online mutiplayer, so i can only speak in that regard.

The gameplay is top notch and feels fresh compared to other shooters, with the destruction and variety of vehicles there will always be something new happening. Not to mention the ton of unlocks which WILL keep you playing for months trying to unlock everyone. Battlefield 3 has the best audio ever in a game and will scare you multiple time when a rocket whizzes past your head or a wall is blown up while you next to it, the sound will never get old and will keep you focused. The Multiplayer is obviously where Battlefield 3 game time is spent and DICE have made sure the time is a LONG time with 9 maps and 5 playable modes there is a map and a mode for you. Conquest being the classic and favourite it sure is the most hectic with jets and helicopters flying by which will be taken out within minutes by a stinger, T90-A's and Humvee's rolling down the hill which will be taken out by a javelin. No vehicle is overpowered and there is always a way to succeed. That is what Battlefield as a series is about, CHOICE. There is always another way to do something, for example if you come across a M1 Abram you could run hoping it won't pummel you with it's weaponry or you could take it out with an RPG-7 or you could take it out with an AT-mine or you could take it out with a Javelin. That is only a few ways for just that situation, there is never just one way and every way will be your little Battlefield moment. The Singleplayer in my opinion is very good and is the best war game story but because it is not the reason to buy Battlefield 3 I won't go into it much but say there are some pretty epic moments. On to the bad part there are a few glitches but they are minor to the ones in the beta, which most are gone. There are a few server issues at the moment though they will most likely be sorted out soon. This is definitely the game to get this year, it will certainly keep you glued to your T.V. for quite a while. Make sure to have some tissues on standby. Expand

Sure, the single player isn't terribly special but that's not why we play Battlefield in the first place. I've put many hours into CoD and it's a very different game and I'm tired of all these comparisons. Those of you saying it isn't as "smooth" are correct but this is only because MW is an arcade style shooter and battlefield is not. BC2 was my first battlefield game and initially I had the same complaints. Once you get used to playing BF3, you will truly appreciate it for the "Battlefield moments." There is nothing like sneaking up on a tank on foot and taking it out with C4 or your rocket launcher while it does its best to destroy the building you're lurking in. The tense moments when I thread a Hummer through enemy lines with full squad aboard and counting on me while the world explodes around us are fantastic. Strafing the enemy position in my A-10 and outmaneuvering enemy missile fire makes me want to shout with glee. Give it another shot guys and you won't be disappointed. Expand

I will get this out of the way first: this game is NOT Call of Duty. You may somehow believe that it looks like COD, but this game is definitely in it's own league. This game does NOT have perks or kill streaks that make you an unstoppable force on the Battlefield, sorry but the developer DICE doesn't believe in one man armies. The game is also more realistic than COD. When sniping, you can't just bunny hop and snipe people and expect to get a headshot, because it's near impossible in real-life with a 10-pound sniper rifle. Plus when sniping, you are going to have to account for something called gravity, the bullets aren't lasers, they are projectiles that are affected by gravity once the bullet exits the barrel, so aim high for that headshot, because it isn't the game's fault that you can't aim.

The multiplayer is where the game is worth it's cost, and why most people buy Battlefield. The maps are big, open, and allow different routes to each objective. Destruction makes the game dynamic and generally a round never plays the same way twice. The vehicles bring an element of changing the outcome of battle by supporting your teammates with superior firepower or moving them into flanking positions. The classes have their own niches that can bring defeat or victory to your team depending on their use. Assault can heal or revive teammates to keep them in the fight. Support supplies ammunition to teammates, and can create havoc with C4 or mortars. Engineers repair friendly vehicles and can cause harm to enemy ground vehicles or aircraft. Recon scouts for opponents, snipes, or hides like a little girl due to some players' style. The game does have a learning curve that teaches you to work in a team, flank your opponents, use vehicles to turn the tide of war, and importantly USE COVER in order to survive. Destruction will destroy your cover so it would be wise to keep moving when an enemy sees you in order to keep on fighting. Battlefield is for people who will work together. You are not Rambo. You will not win battles single-handed-ly against good teams. You will need teammates in order to coordinate attacks and expose your opponents' weaknesses. If you can't work with other people, please don't get the game and ruin other peoples' experience by being a worthless teammate and a waste of a server slot. It will save you some hate mail. If you work with others, the gameplay value increases exponentially because of the fun you have working and helping teammates work for victory. Teamwork is a corner-stone of Battlefield.

The graphics are phenomenal, make room on your 360 hard drive in order to download the HD texture pack, it makes the game beautiful.

For those that can't connect or get server disconnects, it's just something that happens to DICE with every release. But DICE sticks to it to make sure the game functions and will fix the servers as quickly as possible. Remember that COD Black Ops was almost unplayable on day one, so COD isn't better than BF in this case.

Plus DICE will not leave players in the cold with a lack of patches. They will bust their tails to balance weapons, stop exploits, fix bugs, and other problems. They have enough experience to know how to patch their own game quickly. TL;DR
-This game is not COD, it is Battlefield. Comparing the two is like comparing pee-wee football (COD) to College Football (Battlefield).

-Ignore the low scores from COD trolls who can't adapt to a more realistic, unforgiving game

-Multiplayer is where the game is at. Destruction, open maps, and vehicles make no two rounds of gameplay the same. This game is very fun to those who like to undertake challenges.

-The game requires a learning curve in order to be skillful. It will be tough at first, but once you learn the roles of the classes and vehicles, you can become a much better player.

-Teamwork is required to win. Lone wolves will fail against good teams. -Install the HD texture pack for a better visual experience

The amount of customization is ridiculous and there is a decent amount of vehicles. Speaking of vehicles, the jets and helicopters have especially amazing flight models and can do some serious damage. Luckily though, from about the 10 hours I've played it seems that the game is incredibly well balanced and rock-paper-scissors mentality is very prevalent. As for the campaign, it is incredibly mediocre and is simply a little addition to the multiplayer. Co-op as well is a little addition which can be quite a bit of fun. If you were buying Battlefield 3 for the single player you may be out of luck for two reasons. For one, it really isn't that good and two, you must be new to the franchise if you were buying a battlefield game for the single player. If you are a new and casual player who lacks patience or team work, you may find this game very frustrating because it isn't as dumbed down as some other FPSs on the market. I bought the game for 360, and it was great for the first two hours. After about two hours, the servers crashed and I was unable to play until the next day. I loved playing the next day until about three hours, when the server crashed yet again. I will absolutely love this game once the server issues are resolved(hopefully). there were a few bugs. They were nothing that really take away from the game, but it is still annoying to shoot someone, get the kill, and then shoot them some more because they stay in the exact same place and position. The good- well there really is too much to list but i will try to sum it up - The game is visually stunning. I really mean stunning, to the point of where you have to play it to believe it. The online multiplayer is fantastic - there are many of the same modes, but they are done well. The controls(a big issue i had with BF:bc2) are smooth and natural. When you play it for the first time, it is very easy to adjust to the preset control scheme. The classes are standard Battlefield, but they are rehashed and a bit more balanced than BF:bc2. The game is challenging - like every Battlefield I have played before - which made it more rewarding to get my first 20-0 game. The vehicle collection on multiplayer is impressive, and the vehicles are more real to life with roll, yaw and pitch style controls. The campaign is good, but it seems to be a bit linear compared to other Battlefield games. I will be honest, this game would get a 10 from me, however the server issues for xbox have to be addressed. I love this game and would recommend it to any of my friends who game. Expand

Some frustration aside with getting online Tuesday, I decided not to let this hamper my opinion of the game. The criticisms for this game are valid, its not as epic or nice looking as the PC version, and the single player is even more of a wash now that its on the second disc, but it is still a competent game on the 360.

The lighting, textures, and feel of guns are all very well placed. People want to know why they're getting killed? It's because you're out in the open, treating it like you're on a paintball field in Modern Warfare. The only way we win matches is by going slow, using teamwork, and being practical. I don't want to get into the argument about which game is better, Activision has always done an excellent job of the run and gun shooter, but its really apples and oranges between that and Battlefield. I'm sure both games will do well in the market, and there should be options for shooters.

When its not connecting right, this game be frustrating, but that always gets better with time. Bad Company 2 is what got me back into this franchise, and based off of Tuesday nights game with my group, we're going to get a lot of shelf life out of it, but please, don't be haters because you play this game by yourself. If you play CoD, then by all means go play it and enjoy. This game at its core is well made, the levels are balanced and vary in setting, and make it so you can create great memories for yourself, not just relying on scripted events. Vehicles once again add new tactical perspectives, and the rebalancing of classes make it easy to find your niche. The unlocking system is a bit excessive, breaking down into subcategories of unlocks, but I already have the gun I want for the class I want after one night. I hope this information has been helpful.

Don't let all of the bad reviews deter you from buying Battlefield 3 if you're an online shooter fan. This is by far the best online shooter I've ever played, and has a ton wonderful elements that have never been seen in a shooter. The level design is masterful, and the "twitch shooting" is perfect!. Don't pass on this game.

Ok, I have been trying to stay away from all this discussion, reading comments on both BF3 and MW3. Don't get me wrong, I really like both franchises and I am getting both games, but some things need to be addressed.

If you say that MW3is the same game with updated graphics - in all areas of technology, you just build upon your already built tools. Nothing wrong on updating graphics. Also, to keep the identity of the game, nothing more natural than keeping things familiar - that is why the number 3 follows the name - it is a continuation of the story, with also some gameplay updates.

BF3 also just built upon they had done before, and they did not create something new: they updated their engine and called a different name, making people believe that it is an entire different engine. BFBC2 had destructible environment and you could drive vehicles, the latest MOH installment had the player control a chopper...

Therefore, BF3 is also a graphically updated game with some gameplay updates as well - like going prone, for example. And, again the number 3 after the name stands as a continuation of a previous game, hence nothing genuinely new here.

The difference between them is the gameplay, as a lot of comments already described them, making the player's preference just a matter of personal taste.

Although both games are focused on online gameplay, I would like the campaign to be at least decent - and not only 5 hours of gameplay, which also turned me down on MOH.

Finally, how different they really are? FPS consists in running around shooting enemies and getting shot at. Just like racing games and sports games are the same year after year, with updated graphics, improved gameplay and graphics. They all build upon a pre-existing title. At this point, it would be economically unviable to create an entirely new engine, to any type of game, from scratch.

Like a said before, I really like both franchises and I am getting both games, but some things need to be addressed.

If you are a COD player, the controls aren't as tight and will need some getting used to. The pilot controls for flying are quite frustrating though and the graphics seem to be bi-polar with some parts looking spectacular and other parts looking like a mess. This game definitely lacks polish and the finishing touch. Single player is quite mundane to say the least. It seems to be a trend with EA FPS games (E.G: Medal of Honour). This is purely based on the variety of gameplay at your disposal, whether it be flying a jet, driving a tank or being a soldier each experience is completely different. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Multi-player FPS, it's a breath of fresh air! Having said that SP isn't worth your time, so don't buy just for that. And EA servers are notoriously dodgy.

So to summarise, unrivalled multi-player, realistic graphics and sound and extremely addictive and fun.
But crap single player, and usual dodgy EA reliability. The flaws can't hide the diamond underneath though. 9/10

I'm a fairly new follower to Metacritic, and I've learned that almost all user reviews have to be ignored completely. It is clear that some reviews are from fanboys (either Battlefield or COD), and some reviews are just maybe pre-teen emotions getting the best of some of the younger gamers.

The first thing that I feel needs to be cleared up is that this game and COD are not, nor should they ever be, the same game. I love both of these games, but I go to one or the other depending on what gameplay I'm looking for. Full disclosure: I've only been playing Battlefield since BFBC2, but I absolutely LOVED that game. I can honestly say that if you liked that gameplay, chances are you'll like BF3.

The singleplayer is nothing to wrie home about, but it's a decent time killer for when your looking for a break from multiplayer. The biggest let down or me was the fact that the story happens post-earthquake so none of the environments are entact...just rubble. Let me say this, though...if you're looking to get a game soley on the single player campain...PASS...it's not worth it.

I have to admit that I was somewhat disapointed with the Frostbite 2 engine. I was expecting there to be a larger number of destructable portions of the environment, but that is not a game-changer in my book. For the 360, this is one of the best looking games you'll find. The lighting and sound is fantastic. If you crank up your system, you'll feel like your right there in the action.

Some of the changes that I've noticed affect my gameplay are the alterations made to the classes. I never really used the Assault class much in BC2, but I've noticed I tend to use it (or Engineer) in BF3 due to the fact they switched the medic portion from support to assault. I thought the fact that snipers can now go prone would bother me, but it is countered by the reflection of light that gives you a heads up of where the fire is coming from.

Overall, this game is fantastic...and I HATED the beta. But here is my nota bene: If you are looking for COD style multiplayer...this game is not for you. If you're looking for a strategy based FPS that thrives on teamwork and isn't kill driven, then BF3 will scratch you right where you itch.

I would rate this game an 8.5, but I rounded to 9 because I really do feel the multiplayer is so polished it deserves more of a 9 than an 8.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
