Enjoy an all new, yet appealingly nostalgic gaming experience from YOKO TARO (Creative Director), Keiichi Okabe (Music), Kimihiko Fujisaka (Character Design.)

While Voice of Cards could be refined as a game, the vision is impeccable, and while the game's not as outrageous or subversive as NieR and its sequel, it still represents Yoko Taro's unique qualities as a game designer and narrative writer: he is forever experimenting and pushing boundaries. Voice of Cards is almost subtle in this, but the way that it aims to work collaboratively with players to share a story, rather than tell it, is a delightful departure from the norm for the JRPG. I don't think anyone expected him to follow up NieR with a "card game," but Yoko Taro has hit onto something very special here.

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is a strange mix of table top and video games that manages to add something new to the very traditional JRPG genre. It’s a short, cozy experience that doesn’t overstay its welcome while also feeling fully fleshed out.

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is a game with a simple structure, but one that brings a solid experience that is very well built. The story starts simple and surprises players by it’s end and the characters become more interesting with time. The combat, mechanically simple, is elevated due to it’s animation and good balancing. This is not a RPG that will surprise for bringing new things to the genre, but by how well it does all things that we usually take for granted.

Without question, Voice of Cards represents a great entry point for RPG newcomers that employs a compelling and unique aesthetic. If you've shuffled your way through most of the RPGs on Switch, however, you might find this Isle Dragon more of a whimper.

Voice of Cards makes its particular staging its main highlight. The game remains a good RPG, but if you're numb to its aesthetic appeal, you can safely move on.

Voice of Cards is undeniably fun to follow, especially thanks to its frankly successful “board game” aesthetic. However, he fails to fully engage the player in his adventure, the fault of overly simplistic and intrusive fights. This leaves a very nice game, often funny and enjoyable to play, but unfortunately punctuated by moments of trouble.

Due to the difficulty, or mostly lack thereof, and simplified concepts I could recommend Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars as a beginner or more laid-back RPG. More experienced gamers might bemoan the straightforward gameplay or lack of difficulty, but those who are interested in the charm and humour only need bring their cards to the table. At the very least you should give the demo a try.

The game is too easy and the only challenge on the main story of the game is the last boss, which is where you realize that the main character is pretty useless to the party since there are better healers and dps characters. The random battles can be annoying, but i love turn base combat so i will let it slide. Expand

Game is short and condensed and that's why story is really engaging. It lacks of little background in the life of all characters but it's not a big deal. Maybe Voice of cards is not revolutionary game but it surely have nice charm and really warm atmosphere. Although game is really polished and it's a great feeling just to walk around the map and discovering every part of it bit by bit. If you're searching for something short and relaxing between often long and exhausting RPGs this is really excellent choice! Very pleasant surprise. Expand

However, it puzzles me what made Taro decide that it's a good idea to make a traditional Japanese turn-based RPG in modern times, cuz it's not, and hiding it under the appearance of a card game changes nothing.

The game was easy basically all the way till the final boss fight, at which point it becomes ridiculously hard and annoying. Apparently toward the end, he wanted us to explore the maze and get those top weapons and armors, but I'm not gonna do it when you run into a battle every 3 to 5 steps in that maze. Just not gonna happen, it's no longer 1980s. Such a bad difficulty curse is just bad game design, and despite the generally faverable or okayish review, the fact this game is so niche says everything.

So, I got stuck at final boss, and I don't plan to do ANYTHING about it, because going back to get good weapons means I will face another 100 battles before I get back to the boss. On the other hand, going back to town to get more potion and other stuff, which you barely ever needed at all until final boss, means I need to come all the way back to the boss again. Not gonna do it. Good chance you won't buy much along your play cuz you never needed them, except now you really need it, a lot, but the cost to go back and get them is really not worth it.

The game is just so mediocre in everyway, even the music is not good as Nier dualogy, despite same man made them, and the story isn't that good at all. Nothing motivates you to go through the pain in the ass to reveal the end. I still think Nier as one of my favorites of all time, but the name Yoko Taro is no longer the golden seal of quality. So disappointed
