    Voice of Cards makes its particular staging its main highlight. The game remains a good RPG, but if you're numb to its aesthetic appeal, you can safely move on.

    Due to the difficulty, or mostly lack thereof, and simplified concepts I could recommend Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars as a beginner or more laid-back RPG. More experienced gamers might bemoan the straightforward gameplay or lack of difficulty, but those who are interested in the charm and humour only need bring their cards to the table. At the very least you should give the demo a try.

    Voice of Cards is a neat little RPG that, thanks to its excellent presentation, makes for a fun experience despite a tedious encounter rate and boring dungeon design.

    A great way to use cards for everything (playing and storytelling), while embarking on an old-school RPG adventure. However, Yoko Taro's magic is only found in small glimpses.

    Voice of Cards is undeniably fun to follow, especially thanks to its frankly successful “board game” aesthetic. However, he fails to fully engage the player in his adventure, the fault of overly simplistic and intrusive fights. This leaves a very nice game, often funny and enjoyable to play, but unfortunately punctuated by moments of trouble.

    Many learned the name Yoko Taro from Nier Automata, and indeed Nier Dualogy is a great franchise. However, it puzzles me what made Taro decide that it's a good idea to make a traditional Japanese turn-based RPG in modern times, cuz it's not, and hiding it under the appearance of a card game changes nothing.

    The game was easy basically all the way till the final boss fight, at which point it becomes ridiculously hard and annoying. Apparently toward the end, he wanted us to explore the maze and get those top weapons and armors, but I'm not gonna do it when you run into a battle every 3 to 5 steps in that maze. Just not gonna happen, it's no longer 1980s. Such a bad difficulty curse is just bad game design, and despite the generally faverable or okayish review, the fact this game is so niche says everything.

    So, I got stuck at final boss, and I don't plan to do ANYTHING about it, because going back to get good weapons means I will face another 100 battles before I get back to the boss. On the other hand, going back to town to get more potion and other stuff, which you barely ever needed at all until final boss, means I need to come all the way back to the boss again. Not gonna do it. Good chance you won't buy much along your play cuz you never needed them, except now you really need it, a lot, but the cost to go back and get them is really not worth it.

    The game is just so mediocre in everyway, even the music is not good as Nier dualogy, despite same man made them, and the story isn't that good at all. Nothing motivates you to go through the pain in the ass to reveal the end. I still think Nier as one of my favorites of all time, but the name Yoko Taro is no longer the golden seal of quality. The game is too easy and the only challenge on the main story of the game is the last boss, which is where you realize that the main character is pretty useless to the party since there are better healers and dps characters. The random battles can be annoying, but i love turn base combat so i will let it slide.… Full Review »
