Rather than sticking to the same old formula, this game takes the series to new heights by blending creativity, innovation, and the strengths of its predecessor. With fresh gameplay mechanics, an expanded world, a good storyline, and improved technical performance, Tears of the Kingdom stands as a monumental achievement. This title has the potential to contend for Game of the Year, and despite minor imperfections, it surpasses the already high standards set by its predecessor. The level of hype is justified, and anyone with the opportunity to play it should do so without delay. Beyond its numerous accomplishments, including a rich open world and expert level design, the true beauty of Tears of the Kingdom lies in its ability to reflect the player's intuition and creativity. The game's brilliance isn't just a solitary experience; it shines brightly alongside the player, creating a Legend that will undoubtedly be remembered as a pinnacle in gaming. In essence, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a remarkable achievement, deftly building upon the strengths and weaknesses of its predecessor to deliver an immersive and inventive open-world adventure that's not to be missed. Its sandbox like creativity makes the game extremely fun, and allows puzzle solving to be less restricted and gives the player a sense of freedom. The cutscenes, side quests and boss battles are perfected. Not only that but the brand new addition of the depths and sky islands add for a lot more content, and pushes the shrine counter from 120 in its predecessor Breath of the Wild to a whopping 155. Its stunning views and unique environments offer a great experience for the user. Expand

Excellent game! there’s so many things to do compared to the prequel, and Link’s new skill set is fun, refreshing and very interesting; you can do almost everything you want to!

Only downside is i wish you could build larger things, and that the house you custom build allowed you to use more than 15 blocks, but other than that, everything is great!

What the Zelda team was thinking? Instead of doing dungeons, they made those large shrines with "dungeons" in the name. I absolute hated the shrines in Breath of the Wild, hence I hate the shrines in Tears of the Kingdom. They are all the same puzzles that you can figure it out in minutes. The shrines are all the same. The underground segments are extremely boring, the sky island are all the same. The list to choose the material to fuse during battle freeze the screen and take it out the immersion of the game just rolling till you find the material you are looking for, just terrible. And the frames... Oh my, the frame rate of this game is AWFUL. The story is not so good, all the flashbacks of the past again and you need to find the boring geoglyphs' puddles. Where's the magic? The items, the dungeons, the good story? I cannot take Ganondorf anymore. Unfortunately this game sold a lot, and Nintendo will acknowledge this game as a base for future Zeldas. This game is no Zelda, this game is Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts with the word ZELDA on the cover. I'm so frustrated that one of my favourite franchises was reduced to this. Expand

well, because Tears of the Kingodm is an 8 video game, however in the context of a the legend of zelda it is already a lot if it takes a 3, for this doing an average it comes out a six.
the video game is fun, has immediate gameplay that does not tire and is capable of making you spend hundreds of hours of fun, since facing enemies and completing the various mini-games on the map is extremely fun due to the dynamism of the gameplay. thanks to the ultrahand it is possible to build incredible things and thanks to the compositor the crafting of weapons is fast and immediate. so what's wrong? well since building vehicles and completing minigames isn't the reason a person buys a Zelda game this game for me was a complete bust. Zelda as always is all about exploration and a sense of discovery, and when you fail this point you have failed the entire game. Let's start with recycling. The asset recycling in this game is disgraceful, and I honestly don't understand why people defend this, despite the fact that the game still cost 70 bucks. And stop comparing it to majora's mask which only recycled npc assets. Finding again enemies, weapons, fauna, flora and clothes from the previous game was a huge disappointment. especially when most of the enemies are bokobli, grublin, lizalfos, octorot and lynel again. also the Yigas appear in the exact same way. The map of the sky, so advertised by Nintendo, is nothing more than a group of tiny islands and copy pasted with the same puzzle. the exploration of the sky was disappointing because I find it extremely boring to explore to always find the same things. the underground may look cool at first but then it turns out to be nothing more than a wasteland with only one biome and with ridiculously repeated enemies. it has only 2 structures and it repeats them all over the map giving the feeling of exploring a procedural environment. Hyrule has remained the same, and no, I don't consider moving shrines and korooks to be a different map. I honestly found it extremely boring to explore a map on which I had already spent hundreds of hours botw. the only satisfaction was given by the caves, even if many of them are similar and a bit boring. Since Nintendo has decided that all the same rooms with a puzzle inside can very well replace the Dungeons, also in this game we have only 4 small dungeons (the castle of Hyrule has remained the same as that of botw). The temples in this game are none other than the divine beasts but dressed differently. Honestly I'm sick of this game being compared to the first zelda for NES, since the only thing they have in common is that they have an open map. in Zelda 1 dungeons were essential, just as it was essential to explore to get items without which you could not complete the game. in totk everything is made to be Optional, the really useful things are only given to you at the beginning, everything else is just finding useless things just for completion. if you don't care about Zelda or what it has been to date this game will be perfect for you, otherwise it was a complete disappointment.

OF THE BILLON.BILLON= 1 000 000 000 000 años. THE LEGEND OF ZELDA TEARS OF THE KINGDOM Expand

The region quests are a bit retentive but I think that's because I did them all at once. The open world is great and the new formula for monster camps is really nice. The new parts of the maps really set in good moods, and the new enemies are great, especially the hands. I was really invested with Zelda's story and loved to chase the new memory collections. The graphics are great and I love how they still sticked to the cartoony style, but just polished it instead. And the sound track is beautiful, the main theme is my number one on my playlist and just running around in all parts of the map, the music caters perfectly. They still keep lots of things from breath of the wild which makes it feel like a visit back to a familiar place.
The game itself runs great, with myself finding no glitches while playing nor bugs. This is really impressive as I share a switch with 3 of my siblings and the fact that the switch is a tiny hand held console.
As the story progresses more things from botw and totk just make more sense, giving the feeling of great discovery.
But apart from the everything, the pure joy I got when I saw the game arrive was like nothing I have ever felt before. Doing the Tutorial Island reminded me of my first time playing Botw on the Wii U and it just felt so comforting. The feelings the game gives you set a new open world standard that will ever be hard to beat. I hope this version of the games keeps continuing because it's been the happiest while of my life while playing this Masterpiece.

    2. The realistic nature.
    3. The few “big” side quests were amazing and felt like it had impact (often small) on the world.
    4. The living breathing realistic world.

Now let’s see what I didn’t like about Tears of the kingdom:
    1. The story felt like it tried to imitate that of Breath of the wild. And it failed miserably with the memory system feeling forced and it just isn’t interesting in general.
    2. The nature is now littered with ugly dark grey rocks in unnatural square shapes and ugly bright green pictures on the land which make no sense story wise when you think about it even a little bit.
    3. All side quests were meaningless with no impact on the world at all.
    4. The world feels very artificial, with people not talking about the freaking apocalypse that was the upheaval but instead they worry more about things like fashion and traveling across the world… to a scorching hot desert with a constant sandstorm. Nah, they don’t care. Almost as if it doesn’t exist and doesn’t mater. 5. All the regional phenomena stories suck except for maybe the Zora one, that just feels tedious at times.

They took BotW and cranked up the bullsh*t tenfold with the Zonai devices and mandatory weapon fusing. I played it on a Switch emulator with unlimited weapon durability (with 60fps on 2K) so I can't even imagine the tedium normal players have to endure.

My main issue with the latest Zelda games is a lack of direction (even though I absolutely love Elden Ring where I was constantly lost). Yes, the game throws some objective markers at you but it's still overwhelming. That combined with it's lack-luster combat, unrewarding gameplay loop, boatload of puzzles and ungodly amount of walking make this a dreadful experience, the cumbersome mechanics of the Ultra-Hand and Zonai devices just added to my frustration.

It is what it is, I don't like Baldur's Gate 3 either, it's too slow. My ADHD brain needs quick and constant stimulation otherwise I'm out, no matter how highly praised it is by critics and the general populace.
Give me a weapon, some enemies to kill (with a good combat system) and I'm good. Leave the "wandering around aimlessly" and "finding what to do next" parts to real-life, or at least make it worth my while. None of the places look interesting or memorable.

In conclusion, for me this game is boring, frustrating and tedious.

If you relate to how I feel:

Don't let the internet make you play a game you don't like, just accept that you're different and move on.

The new abilities are a lot of fun to use. The Ultrahand is especially versatile, and it can be used to solve puzzles, build structures, and even fight enemies.
The story is well-written and engaging. The characters are likable and relatable, and the plot is full of twists and turns.
The boss fights are some of the best in the series. They are challenging but fair, and they require you to use all of your skills to defeat them.
The grinding can be a bit repetitive. There are a few areas in the game where you need to grind for materials, and this can get tedious after a while.
Overall, I really enjoyed Tears of the Kingdom. It is a great game that is sure to please fans of the Zelda franchise. If you are looking for a fun and challenging game with a great story, then I highly recommend Tears of the Kingdom.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

IF YOU'RE SUPER INTO GRAPHICS THEN THIS GAME ISN'T FOR YOU! The art style does a lot of heavy lifting, but in the end, it's 720p at 30 fps. If any BOTW player is wondering if theres any huge progression change in TOTK, the core of it is basically the same as BOTW. Theres a lot of gameplay elements that were changed, and the quests, dungeons and shrine puzzles are a lot cooler now, but it does end up feeling like deja vu sometimes. Even though I thought this game was definitely worth my money after playing BOTW, it's pretty reasonable if you think otherwise.

Tears of the kingdom is the worst game of 2023!

Tears of the kingdom is the worst game of 2023!

    >despite being a set protag the game asks for your pronouns

    >The legend of Zelda theme by system of a down makes an appearance

    >In the English dub the merchants will speak a lot and some of them are noticeably male despite some of them voicing females

    >Mario movie references

    >shrines are back and are still tiny two-room physics puzzles that give you a spirit orb
I honestly lost interest after ragu told me to do two more shrines.

    >korok seeds are back

    >weapon durability works the same way

    >The gerudo dancer outfit now says "meme worthy costume" in it's description

    >The construction feature of the game will autodetect if you are making a swastika

    >Fusing is really limited

    >The time travel thing can only happen in one location

    >master sword has energy durability still

    >map is 90% the same

    >The other 10% has reused assets to do something "new"

    >There's now a town full of black people

    >flurry rush is back and still has the same massive timing window

    >no playable Zelda

    >There's references to shriek and how "he" transcends the idea of gender

They don't outright call her a tranzy but the intention is pretty visible

    >There are only 4 dungeons (+ hyrule castle, SAME hyrule castle map)

    >Its the same area you can see in the trailer with Sidon!

    >There's a souvenir that depicts an earth globe but it's called "the universal fun balloon" which is a reference to the company making the Nintendo theme park at Orlando.

    >Zelda turns into a dragon after link has been killed off screen so she has to step in and access the secret power she had all along and save the day because the hero has nothing on a princess of wisdom (this is a exact line from the dub)

    Overall an unmitigated disaster.
Theres just games that are so much better and deserve more and sales, do yourself a favor, don't buy this game.

But, it takes that formula and improves upon in every single way possible. Bigger world, more options with combat, new toys to play with, new abilities to use and abuse. The world is your playground in Tears of the Kingdom and it’s one of the only idea games that every grabbed that idea and went to town on its ambitions.

Tears of the Kingdom sets a new benchmark in open world games, even more so than its predecessor. Tears also improves upon its story telling in which it tells one of the best Zelda stories to date, and may even rival Ocarina of Time’s wonderful storyline. While the game does look a bit dated, the gameplay and exploration potential more than makes up for it. Giving you verticality in sky or underground, all the adding new abilities like Fuse (which never gets old) and ascend to transverse in all new ways.

This entry breaks new ground into the Zelda series and into gaming as a whole. It’s the new standard for open world games and any game I play in the future with this concept will be scrutinized with Tears of the Kingdom in mind. It’s a masterpiece through and through. Play this game.

The story in tears is much better and more interesting, the dungeons are very fun and the depths are awesome, it's the only game fun enough for me to want to 100% it. The ganondorf fight was really fun and every boss was cool, the ending when you catch Zelda got me so emotional.
The only downside is the sky islands, there are very little of them wich is a bit sad, but the depths make up for it. This is a must play for any gamer in the world. The graphics are on the top, it doesn't need 120fps and 4k, the building is fun and the depths and sky are beautiful, you could be exploring this world for hours even if you already done it in botw, there are so many new things to do in this familiar yet new hyrule.

I was never excited for this game. Every time Nintendo showed off a new trailer, I yawned. Only reason I got this was because my nephew wanted it.

Admittedly, I was HOOKED at first. Exploring to find whatever new equipment you can get your hands on was addicting. Then it got old. You're pretty much exploring the same landscape from Breath of the Wild so there's no REAL big surprises. Your weapons breaking makes a return and it becomes pointless fighting enemies if your weapons are just gonna break again. I end up not wanting to use my best weapons because I don't want them to break.

People say it's great to have so much to do, but there's nothing FUN to do! Exploring the depths is just time consuming because you're just uncovering the map and grinding for materials to upgrade your batteries or collecting enough poes to get that Dark Link armor you probably want.

The sky islands are just..... there.

The side quests are mostly just pointless. Most of the time I run into a NPC asking me to clear out an area or gather some stuff. Side Quest initiated. Side Quested completed. No sense of accomplishment. That's what this game is. I never feel like I'm really accomplishing anything. Nothing to look forward to.

In all honesty, I've only beaten ONE dungeon. But I know I've seen everything there is this game has to offer me. I'm actually shocked at this personal realization to what I'm about to say. I've loved the Zelda series, it means so much to me, didn't like Skyward Sword, but honestly, I don't think I can ever continue this journey to defeat Ganon in Tears of the Kingdom. I have no motivation to do it.

While I hated Skyward Sword, I at least finished it. Tears of the Kingdom....... I'll never finish it. I'm angry that I was right. I'm even more angrier that I spent the $70 Nintendo thought this carbon copy was worth.

Rediscovering the same Hyrule and how it changed over the years is a whole new adventure that it taste better when you remember the last open world, now way more expanded to include 3 maps: the one for the surface, and other 2 for the sky and the underground.

New abilities of Link are the core now, and truly you can almost build everything with that if you find how and are creative enough: now you can travel and resolve puzzles with a lot of more freedom and the world is designed for this to work perfectly. The story follows the previous one, but I have the feeling as if were more years passed instead of a few ones, like hundred instead of a bunch, anyway, this is explained better once you play it and it make sense, but the story is now a bit more serious, prove of this is hat now we must face our archenemy Ganondorf to save the world.

Those negative ratings are from review bombing losers and must be erased, but even with that the game have a great score here and just like in Zelda series, the truth and light will always prevail and erase the darkness and evil. Play this masterpiece and enjoy.

Mostly the same we saw on the first, I mean Zelda BOTW, but with limitless high level engineering capabilities. I had enough of the same with BOTW and I didn't enjoy the new stuff.

It has a captivating story, with moments both emotional and epic. With a very well-developed gameplay thanks to Link's new powers, the use of his weapons combined with the materials we find and the possibility of building useful objects for the adventure make the experience very fun, in addition, the new exploration of Hyrule from the skies or the underground is something new and gives a fresh air to the map design, with excellent secondary missions and various challenges such as puzzles and demanding monsters (which force us to use strategy as the main weapon) makes everything shine despite the Shadows of the Cataclysm. The Dungeons levels design also are marvelous. Being a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, it kept most of its creatures: monsters and animals, as well as repeating some of its melodies during exploration (on horseback is where it becomes most noticeable), however the newly incorporated songs of its masterful soundtrack and well-crafted level boss fights make it a total triumph. This game is, without a doubt, a step forward in the Zelda’s future. Once again, Zelda is legend. Expand

I've sunken a quite a bit of time in BOTW and loved just about every aspect of the game itself, so you already know that I've been hyped for this game ever since it was announced. I just gotta say I was not disappointed, better yet, it surpassed my expectations as a long time Zelda fan. Despite the fact that it did make some quality of life improvements, it's a whole new game on its own. Despite the fact that it did make some quality of life improvements, it's a whole new game on its own. I can kind of see why people are calling it the same, but in order to progress a story like BOTW, it kind of had to take place in hyrule again. Not to mention, I loved going back to the old places that have changed and comparing the two. Overall, incredible game, would recommend to all different types of players. Nintendo really is putting in the work and we all love it. Expand

Great game, love the story much more than Breath of the wild. And the building mechanics are very good and fun. And the boss fights and return of dungeons made it even better

I wasn't sure how Nintendo would find a way to top their work in Breath of the Wild back when it came out, but I feel they have here – with years of more polish applied and refined exploration. [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 71]

The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
