Tears of the Kingdom is the closest we have ever gotten to a perfect game. Instead of rushing to finish a game in 6 months, Nintendo poured their heart into this game over the span of 5 years, and it shows. The entire game is handcrafted, nothing feels like it was just thrown in to make an area feel less empty. The new abilities are phenomenal, especially ultrahand, which allows for near infinite solutions to every puzzle or obstacle you may face. It's also undeniably cool, being able to build cars, death machines, and even mechs. The story, while not as good as some other game's, is well written and a huge step up from Breath of the Wild. Speaking of Breath of the Wild, it took that already near perfect game and improved it 10 fold. TotK has lots of enemy variety, infinite weapons thanks to fuse, great bosses, and improves on pretty much everything else you can think of. The cell shaded graphics are beautiful, and it is amazing that you can fall from the sky all the way down to the depths seamlessly with no loading screens or lag. The world is filled to the brim with things to do. I have 200 hours in the game already and I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of the game. Everywhere you go there is something to do or someplace to explore. I often find myself getting sidetracked by things because of how much there is to do. I can be doing something on a sky island and spot something interesting on the surface. Next thing you know, I find a chasm and end up fighting a gloom covered King Gleeok in the depths. Every day I discover tons of new things in the game that I had no idea existed. While I am on the topic of the depths, they are massive. The depths are the same size as Hyrule's surface. Ancient mines, factories, and Yiga Clan hideouts can be found all over the depths, making it really fun to explore. In conclusion, if you want a massive open world game with fun gameplay, great characters, and an engaging story, Tears of the Kingdom is the game for you. Expand

Pros: Amazing new mechanic, that need to have in every game from now on. The replay value is so great that I have replayed this game twice since launched, and it took me nearly 250 hours of playtime.
Cons: Visually the same as BOTW. The limited hardware is because of the old Switch system.

Simple review: The best game in the series by far.

Truly deserving of a 10/10 score, a game that does everything BOTW could do but better, and I cannot

You have so much freedom in this game, and there were so many things I didn’t do. After beating it, I realized that I was only 48% complete, and there were countless side quests and missions left for me to do. The gameplay sits just on the line between easy and difficult, which is a perfect balance. Tears has the distinct advantage of being built on top of a title already considered to be one of the greatest gaming triumphs of the modern era, to this end there wasn't anything that could potentially go wrong, with every addition only capable of being an improvement.

The map has been greatly expanded in multiple dimensions - the surface now connects to both a subsurface and underworld via a hundred cave and well networks; some of these are small, others are massive and cavernous, each is unique. A vast, dark mirror world is accessible from the surface via chasms hundreds of metres deep, serving as a giant combat and survival arena across the entire stretch of Hyrule. Above the surface are multiple tiers of floating islands, hosting their own unique combat and exploration scenarios, resources and building materials, and across all these tiers of the map are a dozen dungeons and mini-dungeons, the journeys to each are among the most unforgettable experiences of the entire game. Returning towns and settlements have been so greatly reformed that they're barely recognisable; from ruined Kakariko and fashion-crazed Hateno to the first-stage rebuilding of Castle Town and the Gerudo's entire new secondary settlement.

There are now around 250 quests to complete, over 3x as many as its predecessor, reflecting how much the content density and population of this in-game world has increased, with about 30 new enemy

The new ability mechanics are so much fun, Ultrahand makes it possible to play around with just about every asset, being able to combine all kinds of objects to build as ridiculous or as functional within the 21-item limit as your imagination allows, this ability paired up with the wide variety of Zonai components allows you to cover all bases from constructing giant mechs, mobile fortresses and large trap setups to tanks, cruise ships and aerial bombers for a healthy dose of vehicular mayhem. Fuse makes it possible to attach any item or asset to any weapon of choice, providing hundreds of options with unique power boosts and functionality, in addition to being able to attach any item from your entire inventory to arrowheads with numerous effects ranging from a simple damage boost to blinding or confusing your enemies, then freezing, electrocuting and burning them to a crisp in a massive fireball. Ascend and Rewind open up the world further by making it possible to phase through solid structures above you or to catch a ride on any vertical or laterally moving object by reversing its motion by approximately 30 seconds, additionally allowing you to take out enemies with their own thrown projectiles.

The visuals have noticeably improved and the world is much more gorgeous to look at, with the landscape defined by greater saturated blues, greens, yellows and oranges, the sound design has improved considerably too, with the greatest sensory experience of this world coming from the ambience channelled through a good set of headphones.

There are numerous quality of life improvements found within Tears stemming from grievances previously raised; meals are now saved and stored as recipes which can be quickly accessed from a recipe menu, the map has coordinates and can now be accessed from an ability wheel so your adventure window may stay open on another tab, items can be sorted, thrown or dropped without accessing the main menu while you will be given the option to drop an item if you open a chest with a full weapon inventory. Additionally, you can look over dialogue you may have missed thanks to a chat log window, loading screens pass by much faster the Switch overclocks when on these screens, and for my personal favourites - it's now possible to ride the dragons across the map rather than get taken out by their elemental attacks and blasted away, and Link has his very own fully customisable home where you can store all your rare collectibles, cook, sleep, pray and chill to your heart's content.

The overall structure of the game is the same as its predecessor, in turn the same as pretty much all their predecessors; travel through the regions, completing dungeons as you do so to reverse or preventing region-destroying threats, defeat a regional boss, then come for Ganondorf in order to save your girl.

Overall Tears does what was probably thought impossible - it recaptures the magic of Breath of the Wild all over again and surpasses it, preserving the integrity of that returning world while reforming it enough to succeed as its own reinterpretation, and providing a wholesome adventure through a beautifully designed sci-fi/fantasy setting that you can lose yourself for hours at a time in, complemented by a wonderful roster of characters representing numerous distinct peoples and cultures throughout human history. Like Breath of the Wild before, it's truly a one-of-a-kind experience.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, pra quem não sabe inglês Lágrimas do Reino, pros intimos, choro dos haters, e pros mais antigos, Breath of the Wild 2.

There should've been much more sky island content, giving more reason to want to explore that layer than the one phenomenal tutorial island. I was very disappointed upon seeing most of the game still took place on the ground.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tears of the kingdom is a beautiful game. Its sandbox like creativity makes the game extremely fun, and allows puzzle solving to be less restricted and gives the player a sense of freedom. The cutscenes, side quests and boss battles are perfected. Not only that but the brand new addition of the depths and sky islands add for a lot more content, and pushes the shrine counter from 120 in its predecessor Breath of the Wild to a whopping 155. Its stunning views and unique environments offer a great experience for the user. Expand

Mal sabíamos que The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild era uma Tech Demo para The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

As novas mecânicas, a história do jogo e a mesma sensação de liberdade que senti em Breath of the Wild.

Assim como Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom é gigantesco, grandioso, excessivo e imenso. Pega todas as qualidades de Breath of the Wild e soma, multiplica e potencializa o mundo de Hyrule.

Da mesma forma que, Breath of the Wild mudou a fórmula de mundo aberto, Tears of the Kingdom mudou a fórmula de Breath of the Wild.

This is the most creative adventure game I've ever played. The depth of the gameplay and the feeling of accomplishment when you figure something out in your own custom way is unmatched. It truly makes you feel like you invented the solution to the puzzles yourself.

The powers are better than BotW and each challenge you encounter perfectly forces you to learn how to use them on your own.

The powers are better than BotW and each challenge you encounter perfectly forces you to learn how to use them on your own. There are more kinds of things to explore like caves and wells. There are some familiar items and enemies but also many new ones, especially in the sky and deep underground. The map is NOT the same! There are three maps! One for ground, one for sky, and one for deep underground where it's completely dark and all connected. The sky puzzles are amazing! The ground map has the same regions as BotW but they are different this time around. And the deep underground is done very well with the light sources that you can use to light the darkness.

Many things have been upgraded and improved or expanded upon. I haven't had this much fun playing a game in... I don't know, because this game is such a unique feeling of creativity mixed with Nintendo's highest quality design, its like I'm playing the first of a new genre. I think this is my first metacritic review. I just had to stand up for how amazing this game really is. It kind of like Legos and everybody loves Legos. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have played a bunch of Zelda games over the years, and going in blind to BOTW was truly the pinnacle of it all. For those first few moments, and throughout the rest of the game, it was an absolute gem of an experience, a Diamond being the gem. It’s the standard games SHOULD value, take time to make a game to its absolute best potential. Granted, I see pros AND cons. Dungeons were lackluster, bosses exactly the same, and the world did feel a bit more empty. But it was one of the cases where, hype aside, the good outweighed the bad in such a tremendous and spectacular way. Climbing up that hill to see all of Hyrule still hits me even to this day.

Tears of the Kingdom is, to me, an INCREDIBLE successor!! Taking the criticisms of BOTW, and following up on that exponentially. Dungeons, while small, ARE present, and the Allies mechanic is a treat! New abilities to help world traversal, the vehicles being so expansive on what you can and can’t do. It’s truly imagination beyond itself, and the way they somehow made hyrule feel fresh (while still being familiar), is astounding. Granted, a LOT of people here complain about the graphics, YES we get it the hardware is not next Gen. But the $70 was NOT for a graphical upgrade, but rather an expanded experience. I’ve only just began and I’m already at like 18 hours, and I’ve yet to scratch a tiny bit of the surface. Beat a dungeon and boss, all that good stuff.

Point is, BOTW was Nintendo running an experiment, and Tears of the Kingdom was Nintendo being fully confident in what they could produce!

After playing for about 30 hours I can say for sure that's not the case. We get the old map with some additions, and the sky islands like we saw in the trailers. (Don't read further if you consider a location to be a spoiler) The thing that truly changes the map is the depths. It as as big as the first game's map, and is is completely different. Honestly they could have had the depths as the only map in the game (So long as they added towns to it, which I haven't found in it so far, but I have found a shop), and less people would've complained compared to now. The fact this was never talked about in the marketing is kinda crazy to me.

The fuse mechanic and Ultrahand are truly amazing. I don't want to talk about them too much, as I feel the joy of thinking "Will this work?" and finding out it does is too great. What I will say is that the fuse mechanic can be used for traversal, not just combat. This is a mistake I've seen some people make. Thinking Ultrahand is for traversal, while fuse is for combat, when in actuality you can use both for both.
