There are 45 total rooms in Trial of the Sword, and if you beat them all, then the "true power of the Master Sword will awaken and always be in its glowing powered-up state." The expansion also adds Hard Mode, which increases the "rank" of enemies, making them more difficult to take down. Additionally, especially challenging enemies will show up in some places where they might not otherwise have. Additionally, enemies spot Link more easily in Hard mode. [GameSpot] Expand

All in all, this initial DLC pack is worth picking up, especially if you’re still toying around with Breath of the Wild. Granted, the next story focused pack is probably the more hotly anticipated of the two, but the gameplay features, additional difficulty, and the Trial of the Sword challenge are nothing to scoff at here. Definitely pick this up, it’s well worth the asking price.

With Nintendo having little experience with DLC, there was always a question as to if the developer could do it right, and it seems unquestionable that the team knocked this one out of the park, adding some new content, giving a completely new game mode, and also including cosmetic little bonuses for series fans out there. The next DLC has only been hinted at so far, but it has been shown to be based around the fan-favourite four champions, and if it's even half as good as this then fans are in for a treat.

This first DLC is more substantial than expected: the Trial of the Sword is beautiful and hard, and the Korok Mask will help those who wish to totally complete the game. The Master Mode, less harmonius than the original adventure, represent a real challenge, even for true hardcore gamers.

The Master Trials doesn’t make any epochal changes to the established Breath of the Wild formula, but by packing in one of the game’s best quests, some welcome new features, and a hard mode to be reckoned with, it more than paves the way way for the starrier story expansion to come.

The first of the DLCs of The Legend Of Zelda Breath of The Wild, has two interesting new modes to make the end-game more engaging and new gear to make it more enjoyable.

The experience that it offers is so different that I'm fine taking the plunge on it. Add to that the fun challenges in the Trial of the Sword and this pack immediately heads back in the right direction. [Issue #29, p. 18]

Trials is a hodgepodge of stuff that should have been patched in and stuff worthy of extra development time.

Zelda's legendary rough breathing character was cute.

But this is just not a gameplay for me, and that's probably more personal than anything else.
If you like games where you have to find your own food and cook it together and figure out how to not freeze to death or finding your own clothes, then I'd definitely recommend it, but my patients left after 1 hr of playing. I like Harvest Moon Games, where you have to make your own food too, but it's easier. :P

So with that being said I had very high hopes of this first dlc. There is a lot of things to like about this dlc and all the additions are smart and have great uses within the game but the one thing holding back this dlc from true greatness is that I can't shake the fact that most of the additions should have been in the game out the gate. In example the new ability to fast travel to custom point and the mask that helps find korok seeds. Having played the game for already upwards of 200 hours I just feel as though a majority of this stuff would've simply been more helpful if I had these tools during my 200 hours of play not after the fact. The hero's path is also a cool addition but honestly after I looked at it once or twice the luster of it was gone. The biggest saving grace of this dlc though is undoubtedly the master trials however. It's undoubtedly one of the best quests in the game with quite a bit of length to it and it features probably the most adrenaline packed fun the game has to offer. Also the masters sword having double power by the end of it all is a great reward. 60 damage isn't the highest dps weapon by any means but given the masters sword non-breakable nature it more than makes up for it. Overall my suggestion for this dlc is that if you haven't played the game at all then you should totally buy this dlc with it for the helpful tools that it allows you to have as you play through the game for the first time or if you really are just that huge of a BotW fan than I recommend it as well. Otherwise though if you have already dumped as many hours into the game as I have I would suggest simply waiting for the second dlc to come along with the new story content and enjoy the whole thing as one big expansion. 7/10 Expand
