My god this DLC is awesome!, The master sword trial is fantastic, hard, challenging and makes you really use all your acquired knowledge throughout the game to really go through it, this is a must have for players of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Please enjoy all video games.

In short, this DLC is just poor design.

It's great, just a nice appetizer DLC pack until the second one (which is included in the initial $20) that will have the bigger story beats.

I love the new hero's trail system, it's helped me explore everything and find some wayward korok seeds. Master Mode and Trial of the Sword are great hold-overs.

Despite not being full of new content, this first DLC adds some great excuses to experience Hyrule again. Especially hard mode makes the player rethink most of the strategies used when approaching combat, and make use of the experience previously acquired.

Solid stopgap DLC. The master quest is exceptionally well done and the trial of the sword is the best iteration of the challenge tower yet. This however, is only a small snack of content and most of the features of this DLC feel like they easily could have been part of the original game. Still, some added fun in my favorite game in a long time is more than welcome.

The Master Trials DLC offers another great way to go back to Hyrule. Trial of Sword is really fun and somehow challenging. Beginning with no weapons or armor you go through levels fighting enemies with limited resources. It requires a lot of strategic thinking and surviving as you go higher.

The masks and costumes are also great if you're a fan of the past Zelda titles. The Korok Mask is very useful if you want to find and complete all Korok seeds. The Hero's Path mode is also useful that checks your progress. But this feature should have been included to the full packaged since it can be very useful when starting the game. This DLC pack is actually worth it if you want to play more after finishing the game.

The Hard Mode was very challenging at first as enemies regenerate their health, but when you progress in the game and collect new weapons, they are easier to manage. Boss fights are still on the easy side IMO. Hard Mode gives the game a little more difficult, but don't expect something challenging like Dark Souls, for instance, *The trial mode does give you a real challenge though*.

All in all I am enjoying every minute of the new mode, finding new ways to beat the odds and finally having a challenge after the much too easy main game. They have done DLC right before, this is not one of those times. The motorcycle requires fuel for some reason, they also decided that the backstory would include almost no backstory even though it is highly advertised. They only add one more heart/stamina upgrade when they should have maxed hearts and given one more stamina wheel. If they had at least done that and added some actual story it would have been well worth the price, but $20 for 4 short videos and a motorcycle is a joke. Main game $60 for at least 60-200 hours worth of gameplay. DLC 1+2 is way less then $10. They also rehash every divine beast boss fight and give you limited gear, even then they are laughably easy. They aren't even trying anymore. How do people rate this so high? Oh right fanboys once again skewering the number to be much higher then they should. Give em a one for trying, but it should have been more like Fire Emblem or Warriors the DLC offers replay-ability and not just cash grabs abound. Expand

So with that being said I had very high hopes of this first dlc. There is a lot of things to like about this dlc and all the additions are smart and have great uses within the game but the one thing holding back this dlc from true greatness is that I can't shake the fact that most of the additions should have been in the game out the gate. In example the new ability to fast travel to custom point and the mask that helps find korok seeds. Having played the game for already upwards of 200 hours I just feel as though a majority of this stuff would've simply been more helpful if I had these tools during my 200 hours of play not after the fact. The hero's path is also a cool addition but honestly after I looked at it once or twice the luster of it was gone. The biggest saving grace of this dlc though is undoubtedly the master trials however. It's undoubtedly one of the best quests in the game with quite a bit of length to it and it features probably the most adrenaline packed fun the game has to offer. Also the masters sword having double power by the end of it all is a great reward. 60 damage isn't the highest dps weapon by any means but given the masters sword non-breakable nature it more than makes up for it. Overall my suggestion for this dlc is that if you haven't played the game at all then you should totally buy this dlc with it for the helpful tools that it allows you to have as you play through the game for the first time or if you really are just that huge of a BotW fan than I recommend it as well. Otherwise though if you have already dumped as many hours into the game as I have I would suggest simply waiting for the second dlc to come along with the new story content and enjoy the whole thing as one big expansion. 7/10 Expand

If you've beaten the game already, the max Master Sword upgrade reward from the Trial of the Sword doesn't really serve much purpose, but the Trial is still pretty fun - albeit perhaps flawed in the sense it forces you to meticulously plan your approach rather than solely challenge your abilities with the game's combat mechanics (like Twilight Princess's Cave of Ordeals did). LosingIf you've beaten the game already, the max Master Sword upgrade reward from the Trial of the Sword doesn't really serve much purpose, but the Trial is still pretty fun - albeit perhaps flawed in the sense it forces you to meticulously plan your approach rather than solely challenge your abilities with the game's combat mechanics (like Twilight Princess's Cave of Ordeals did). Losing everything at each difficulty stage of the Trial is kind of cumbersome, but I suppose that's the point. The challenge is entirely in that you have to scramble (or slowly and stealthfully search) for viable weapons/equipment to use. For most of the Trial you're armorless and opportunities to actually cook meals (with the exception of single ingredient stuff) is after boss encounters, so getting hit is problematic. Stronger enemies may one-shot you, and if they don't, you'll wish you had some hearty meal. I had the most trouble with the Beginning Trials (mainly because of unexpected one-hit deaths), but I breezed through the other Middle and Final Trials pretty darn easily. In the end, I was pretty disappointed. I wanted more.

The new costumes are awesome, but ultimately even their addition don't warrant the $20 price-tag for the DLC. The other additions to the main game, while useful for learning where you haven't yet explored in the massive map, don't serve much other use other than making things slightly easier (like if you don't have an item necessary for completing a side quest and you need to quickly warp back to an exact spot or something).

Master Mode is a fun little challenge, but nothing really to write home about.

I guess my biggest complaint here is the price. None of the additions are bad, but the cost should at least be half of what it is considering what's really available. Fingers crossed for a stronger second DLC.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The Master Trials is not for everyone. There’s no new story content, and a lot of the new content is trivial. A lot of the content just supplements an already perfect game. The Trial of the Sword, arguably the biggest part of the expansion, is a great challenge that anyone looking for a tough new experience should definitely try.

Master Mode basically just makes every enemy a tier up (red => blue, silver => gold etc.), allows them to regenerate health over time, adds these floating platforms all over the place with small treasures on, removes the anti-one-hit mechanic, and makes certain timings harder, like flurry rushes. The Trial of the Sword in normal mode isn't too much of a pain to do, but can be slightly frustrating at times, if you don't have all of the shrines. In Master Mode, however, OH MY GOD. It's extremely difficult, and almost unbalanced. I just barely scraped through, but came out the other side with a completely different view on how difficult BotW could be. Highly recommend, 9/10! All in all, this initial DLC pack is worth picking up, especially if you’re still toying around with Breath of the Wild. Granted, the next story focused pack is probably the more hotly anticipated of the two, but the gameplay features, additional difficulty, and the Trial of the Sword challenge are nothing to scoff at here. Definitely pick this up, it’s well worth the asking price.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s first DLC pack, while not essential, tremendously capitalizes on the game’s fantastic mechanics.
