Refreshing, fun for the family. The humor is clean but adult enough for all ages!

Best paper mario game since super paper mario I feel this game is very similar to super paper mario that had a new genre that bieng a platformer and this is an action adventure game I hated sticker star thought color splash was good with the story bad with battles and good on jokes I don’t like how games this year get review bombed because of one island per console or Joel dying I got why Pokémon was review bombed that game was just straight up awful but this game is the 4th good paper mario game Expand

Better than expected! The game looks frankly gorgeous and moves at a pleasant pace. The bosses are engaging and creative! Its battle system risks getting tedious over time, due to its repetitive nature, but the world and environmental puzzles draw you back in when that fatigue hits. Great fun!

Overall good game although the battle system is meh and there's not really a huge incentive to battle anyways since all you get from doing so is coins which you use to buy accessories that give you perks...to battle lol. The world design is very good and reminiscent of the first 2 games in the series, and the characters are fun and enjoyable for the most part. Paper Mario the origami king may not be the same style of the other games but it is a good game if you look past that with its amazing art style and its story, this game a must try game.

This graphics in 2020 are a shame for the games industry, the story is simple and pretty bad for a 2020 game, gameplay too repetitive with just a few bosses, I wish i bought ghost of tsushima instead and not this game i cannot refund it now :(

First don't listen to the negative reviews from the people who are just angry they didn't get the exact Paper Mario "remake" they wanted. I'm about 8 hours in and the gameplay and battle system are great. The story is very engaging and humorous. Even hunting the collectables is fun. As long as you don't expect this game to be a game it's not then you will love this game also.

Listen to the fans, it is disappointing that intelligent systems doesn’t care to make paper Mario an rpg again with amazing story. Rest In Peace.

Again Nintendo knows how the game should look and feel. Its pretty and I love what they've done.

BUT this game annoys me to its core. For some reason Nintendo thinks the players are brain dead and need hand holding for each and every step. Every new mechanic in this game apparently needs 3 5 times explaning how it works. Olivia is a great designed character, she delivers the "tutorial" aspect of the game and so, sadly all my anger gets directed at her direction because she repeats her self very over and over again on how something works.
This game is very: "Omg, just let me play please!"
Dialog is also not worth reading, since the story is very basic, dialogs are dad joke after dad joke and you have to read them because you can't skip the speach bubble like in other nintendo games.
The new battle system is quite alright idea, but also not worth getting excited for. Battles are quickly over and always the same pattern. Here are the enemies always in group of 4, please put them in a line or a square to jump on them or hit them with a hammer. Thats it. Always the same.
A boss battle breaks up the mondain mechanic und you need to solve how to get to the weak points. That is way more fun, since bosses change phase and you need to adapt. Nothing to difficult since you have the chance to get health by solving.
Haven't found a better weapon yet that doesn't break after use, which is alwas a great mechanic to put into games.
And not realy much to do in this game besides, going where olivia tells you to go, finding "collectibles" and finding toads. Which I kind of enjoy. It's funny how those little toads got folded up.

Origami King has almost to no RPG mechanic anymore, which is quite sad. So if you want to play an RPG Paper Mario like you know and love it, then you better stay away from it.

I heard from others if you like Sticker star you'll love this but if you like Thousand year door stay away from it. I wish I knew that sooner.

Battling enemies feel pointless and though the puzzle system is unique, it's not for me. Not to mention the long dialogs that cannot be skipped. The only saving grace is that game looks good Expand

The Origami King (TOK) is more of a spiritual successor of Sticker Star and Color Splash than the first 3 games of this series (Paper Mario, TTYD, and Super Paper Mario). TOK however, does a slightly better job creating a combat system that was initially interesting, utilizing puzzle combat that can be summed up as line the enemies in a row or a square and jump on them or hit them with a hammer, respectively.

However, I quickly noticed my enjoyment of the game increasing after the first 2 levels were over. This increase was because the game introduced a movement mechanic that allows you to completely skip the combat by simply running over the enemies, defeating them immediately.

Nintendo is attempting to create a balance between the old games, and the new direction it has been dragging the Paper Mario series for years. However if you're going to make an adventure game, make one. Don't make a half-hearted combat system that doesn't even truly reward you with in game progression, via experience points to level up your character for example.

I would also note that Paper Mario originally was an art style utilized to maximize the performance of the original games on hardware that wouldn't have been able to handle anything else. Intelligent Systems was able to maximize the amount of game they could create doing this. However now instead of being an art style, they have decided that "paper" itself is the driving theme of this series. Maybe its just me, but going through an old dungeon only to end up fighting a literal paper hole puncher is slightly immersion breaking and doesn't even make sense in the Mario universe. And the constant paper references grows old fairly quickly, with jokes flopping more times than hitting.

That's not to say there weren't redeeming parts of the game, but I felt only half the game was actually good given only half the game was spent living in the Mario universe and in the other half the big baddy was art supplies.

Regardless, this game will not fill the void Nintendo has created in not making a Mario RPG since TTYD. And given that the game contradicts itself in giving you ways to completely avoid parts of the game (including another way other than I mentioned), I cannot give this game a neutral/good score.

Although the game is easy on the eyes, and the world is a delight to explore. The RPG-style turn based battle system is tedious and pointless. Seriously, battles are best avoided. Nintendo, quit being so damned stubborn and pretending to be oblivious to what your fans want! We want another Sticker Star and a Metroid Federation Force HD please!!!

Amazing storyline, excellent graphics and great boss battles. Regular combat is not on pair with the rest of the game, it's even a little boring and not rewarding, but it doesn't get in the way of the game being awesome.

Very disappointing, they have completely destroyed the good name of paper mario with this one. Someone needs to remove the spinning wheel that starts of every battle. Makes the game unplayable

Its a really fun game! The batle system can get anoying sometimes, but ingeneral this game is really good, its a solid 8, Its really colorfull and it has this very silly dumb sence of humor, its great. My favorite part of this game is the colectables, there is Toads to find all over the world, pices of the ground to fix and many other things. In general I haf a great time with this game

Good paper Mario, charming. The only gripe I have is the wave battle system can be a bit annoying. Constant unwanted battles feels a bit like Pokemon. But confetti/origami artstyle is very nice. I would recommend this.

Paper Mario: The Origami King arrives on Nintendo Switch with very high quality graphics, a pleasant soundtrack and a plot full of very good humor, typical of the Paper Mario series. Among countless places to visit, bosses to win, and puzzles to solve, the game can be considered one of the best in the franchise.

Paper Mario deserves better. The prestige of a Final Fantasy veteran appropriating his magic onto a handicraft world deserves better. The unforgettable wit and lovable cast expanding Mario lore deserves better. And we know that Intelligent Systems can do better than committing themselves to a misguided identity crisis.
