Gran juego y excelente paper Mario.

I think that the game is really good overall. The story is nice and it feels good to have Mario and Bowser fight on the same side, against a greater threat. Also, I feel like I am one of the only people who likes the combat system.

    And as always, fantastic soundtrack!

It took me around 50 hours of playing Paper Mario: The Origami King (without any walkthroughs or guides) to complete the game 100% (all treasures, hit blocks, non-bottomless holes, toads, trophies etc.).

My verdict is: 9/10 and here's why (since I know this game is being review-bombed, I'm giving it a 10 though): # battle system # Cons: - yes, there are no permanent partners
It took me around 50 hours of playing Paper Mario: The Origami King (without any walkthroughs or guides) to complete the game 100% (all treasures, hit blocks, non-bottomless holes, toads, trophies etc.).

My verdict is: 9/10 and here's why (since I know this game is being review-bombed, I'm giving it a 10 though):

    # battle system #

    Cons:

    - yes, there are no permanent partners nor exp points, and one could certainly argue if the series has moved on from RPG, then why have a turn-based battle system altogether
    - yes, most bosses are office stationaries

However, in my opinion, there's still enough motivation to battle in that you get a lot of coins (which help you in battles and bosses, as well as purchasing equipment and treasures) and confetti (which you need to cover non-bottomless holes and get harder to get in the open after a while).

    Pros:

    - the puzzle-based, ring system is quite fun and satisfying
    - boss battles are unique and challenge your expectations and strategy
    - because there is no exp progression, you don't need to worry about grinding to advance the story

    # soundtrack #

    No cons here.

Oh man, it's just fantastic. From Wild West themes to traditional Japanese flute, the soundtrack really sets the mood to your adventure. I find myself just walking around Shogun Studios and Autumn Mountains, only to listen to that beautiful soundtrack.

The boss battles have a more metal feel to set the tone and there are sad moments too (no spoilers).

    # visuals #

    No cons here.

The game is colorful and vibrant. Each area is unique, with a special highlight to Shogun Studios and The Great Sea. The effect and sound of confetti orbiting towards you is so good, and every interaction with either the scenario or other characters yields a reaction (most often a funny one).

    # story #

    Cons:

    - it's shorter than I had hoped. =(

It's a simple story, like all Paper Mario games. Not really a con, just, keep in mind that the script is not minding-blowing. It's funny as hell though.

    Pros:

    - there's depth in the characters, you get to relate to and care for them
    - you laugh all the time, the game is super funny, and you actually look forward to saving all the toads, just to hear what they have to say
    - you don't just walk around, you interact with the world in multiple ways and that's awesome
    - Easter eggs, if you explore enough you'll find them

I respect the fans that long for the old Thousand Year Door games (I played it myself and I have it in high, high regard) and I understand how they feel regarding the turn the franchise took.

I myself don't mind the turn they took and I think this is a memorable game, I really enjoyed it and am already looking forward to the next iteration in the franchise. =)

That's it. Half of the Paper Mario series is made of gems. The other is what I like to call the Sticker Star trilogy. They kKIMD OF brougjt back partners but they only follow you for a limited time and have generic names such as Bob-Omb (RIP Bombette and Admiral Bobbery). You cannot control tjem in battle either. They attack but often fail without any player input. Ok so the writing's good but what about the gameplau? Battles are unnecessary. They are gimicky beyond belief. You have to line up enemies in a row before attacking. It goes front brain damaged stupid easy to nearly impossoble to figure out on a timer before you know it. Most people I know, myself included, just skip as many of them as possible. You don't get any EXP from defeating enemies so there's really no point to bother. Like you partners, every NPC is generic. Most of them are Toads and Shy Guys with some other of Bowser's minions thrown into the mix. There is absolutely no originality whatsoever like Paper Mario, The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario had in their character design. The only original characters are Olly (the main villain, at least it's not Bowser this time) and his sister and Mario's partner, Olivia. Olivia is by far the best part of the game. She herself has more charm than the rest of the "Sticker Star" trilogy combined. All in all, the game is a treat for the eyes and a good read (yeah, no voice acting, like we're still in 1999) but certainly not a fun game to play. I highly recommend wathing a let's play on YouTube rather than playing it. Unlike the 1st 3 games in the series, nothing compels me to try to complete the game as much as possible or even replay it. Disappointingggggg.
Literally no challenge at all, as the game gives you the exact amount of moves in order to win without taking one hit. One can finish the game without getting hit once.

Though not up to standard with the classics, this one at least tries to set itself apart from the sticker star games with a better but still flawed battle system. My gripes with the battle system lie with the lack of incentive and low difficulty making them at times feel pointless. Puzzles in the game are great though they feel modest of what could’ve been achieved in complexity and frequency, making some environments less mechanically interesting. However boss fights are incredibly creative and challenging. While it was nice to see some return of RPG elements it’s still disappointing to not see a full return to form but what’s here is bounds ahead of what recently came before it. Expand

I have been totally excited to get my hands on a new Paper Mario and have always been a huge fan of Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year Door, which is a classic.

The new title in the series has funny dialogues and great cutscenes but fights are a total turn-off. The circles and enemy placements are not really fair. And in boss fights it gets really annoying to place all the rings

Apart from that enemies do quite a lot more damage than expected when Mario is hit

Would have loved to see some normal stage fights again...

Now imagine these puzzles embedded in an adventure/exploration game in a way that consistently interrupted the flow of exploration. And imagine that, for this interruption, you get literally zero reward or incentive.

Okay. Open your eyes. The game you were imagining is Paper Mario: the Origami King.

And like the botched Paper Mario games that came before it (Sticker Star and Color Splash), this game's core mechanics are completely broken. If you are a fan of the original two games (which were actually RPGs), then be prepared for some extremely heavy-handed, profoundly condescending treatment from Nintendo.

Nintendo knows you want RPG mechanics. They know you want a buddy system during fights. They know you hate battle stickers that are consumed as you fight pointless fights. They flaunt their awareness of these things throughout this game. They give you a pseudo-buddy who does next to nothing during fights. They appear to do away with stickers, but they're still there--they've just had their name changed to "Weapons" (which break after several uses). This is Nintendo-knows-best at its absolute worst.

I recommend avoiding this game the way I recommend not hitting your thumb with a hammer.

The combat is so boring, repetitive and unrewarding to the point you'll actively avoid "encounters" if you want to call them that, the boss battles are unnecessarily complex and make a stupid battle system even more dreadful than its random "encounters". Although I could eventually solve them myself, I had to help numerous people in my household who couldn't despite the game being aimed at said kids and it only shows Nintendo's core audience can't even solve them. The stories for the recent entries come across as being basic since Miyamoto's stance that the Paper Mario franchise doesn't need a story and is nothing more than a forgetful adventure fueled with jokes you're not going to remember. You're progressing through an empty world for literally no reason and they're only adding a story wherever it's necessary, though a lack of one actively leaves you not only wanting more - but feeling a desire to replay older Paper Mario titles if you've had the joy of doing so.

I also dislike the characters, especially Olivia who is annoying, comes off as empty headed and unfunny to the point where you just want her to shut up and quit pointing out the obvious, which you can tell is to give Nintendo's child audience a sense of direction since this games so bad at explaining how to get from point A to B. For an origami character, she's rather flat when it comes to writing. None of the other characters stand out to me either, they're as bland as their designs. The only good thing about this is the music and the stage design (albeit each world being small and lacking exploration), however that's not enough to keep me going through a mundane game

This only made me appreciate Super Paper Mario's combat and I had issues with that. I really dislike this game and the recent direction of Paper Mario. Mario & Luigi shouldn't have died for this

I understand that we always look for a new paper Mario game, and want it to be exactly like thousand year door. And I am also on the boat, but at the same time I also would like to recognize, in my personal opinion, what I think is a fantastic game. I thought the same about Super Paper Mario Wii, And I have not felt the same about a paper Mario game since. As I was not a fan of the 3DS paper Mario nor the Wii U version.

In Paper Mario origami king, although it does take away the RPG elements, Taking away our judgments of what we perceive a Paper Mario game to be, this game is really fantastic. The game makes the story very clear, at least in terms of determining who the main enemy is. Like most RPG Mario games, it has great humor, and a great cast of characters to boot. The different worlds it takes you through, are inventive, and offered wildly different challenges. There is a different game play throughout the game, making it continuously fresh. And it does find moments to tug at your heart strings, which is truly amazing for any game, let alone a Mario game. If there’s one thing I would like to see in future games, is more inventive boss character models.
The bosses in this game, in terms of their dialogue, we’re so creative and made you want to crush them, but, each major boss in this game happens to be some type of tool, you can find in a office setting. That part was somewhat disappointing, But, the boss battles themselves were really fun, inventive, and very humorous. They also provided a great challenge, the more and more you play the game.

I know puzzle Solving, in your battles, may not be everybody’s cup of tea. But paper Mario found a way to make that fresh, by giving you extra boost, whenever you solve a puzzle, while battling. It’s easier to look on YouTube, and look at the battle system, to see what I’m referring to. But, reward for solving a puzzle, getting extra points for damaging enemies, and the satisfaction of ending a very hard boss battle, is very tremendous in this game.

Overall, I would highly recommend this game, I would recommend that anyone played, play with your family, because of the cast of characters, soundtrack, the humor and everything in between, To me, this is one of Mario’s greatest outings, and it is a game that I will personally go back to from time to time.
