I never thought I would actually recommend a first person shooter that runs in 720p and below that and in 30FPS, but here I am actually liking the game. Doom is still Doom with the fast paced action we all know and love and the great music and OST. It's true that there are some framerate and audio issues with the game but still, kudos to Panic Button for creating this amazing port.

It’s hard not to be impressed by how much of the Doom experience that is preserved on Nintendo's little machine. On the other hand, it's impossible to ignore the big downgrades regarding graphics and controls. Doom on Switch is simply a worse experience than Doom on the other consoles and pc - but it’s still a pretty great experience. Especially in handheld mode.

It is unbelievable how great Doom works on Switch, but technically speaking this is not the best version of Doom that is out there.

The Switch version of DOOM is actually a pleasant surprise with an unaltered gameplay that's still incredibly effective on a small form factor machine. On the other hand, the games boasts ugly graphics, suffers from low framerate at times and has a premium price tag compared to the other platforms.

If Nintendo Switch is not a PS4 or an Xbox One, DOOM succeeds, by making some sacrifices, to stay the almost same as it was on its initial release. Especially on TV, it feels like a downgraded experience but is definitely a great shooter that's worth it if you haven't played it or you feel the desire to kill demons wherever you go.

This is still the same great game that miraculously runs better than most could ever have imagined on what is essentially a mobile console.

If you can stand to look at a lesser version of Doom's once captivating world, you'll find that the game plays well enough on Switch so long as you've got a TV in front of you and a Pro Controller in hand. There's nothing else like it on a portable system, but be prepared to face a handful of compromises, especially if you're used to playing on other platforms. It's an impressive port that begs you to consider gameplay over graphics, and it succeeds more often than not.

Bethesda has squashed its 2016 shooter onto Switch, and while it's missing some polish, it's still a lot of fun.

A seemingly impossible port is carried off surprisingly gracefully, with the old school shooter action working very well as a handheld game.

DOOM is a technological marvel to behold on the Switch, and the fact that id Software got it working at all seems like a miracle. But the magic comes with some heavy concessions, making DOOM on Nintendo’s handheld a more difficult recommendation for Switch players than any other platform.

If you are looking for a game to blow up demons and add a solid FPS to your Nintendo library, look no further than Doom. It packs the entire campaign and much of the multiplayer onto a portable console, meaning that you don’t need to stop fragging just because you need to leave the house. The game’s eye candy has been reduced to match the console’s processing power, as well as feels a bit awkward using the console’s portable joy-cons rather than the pro controller. Even so, the game is worth a playthrough and hopefully a good sign of what is to come.

DOOM suffers some undeniable downgrades in graphical fidelity on Switch, which anyone could've predicted. It's when these downgrades effect enjoyment of the game, however, that one starts to wonder if it was all worth it.

It's not impossible to look at by any means (as you can see in the above gallery) and everything is still perfectly readable from a gameplay perspective. The fact that a small, relatively cheap portable system like the Switch is capable of running a passable version of a recent high-end release like Doom is an achievement in and of itself. Just don't go in expecting the Switch version to be competitive with larger, more-powerful hardware designed for the TV (or a PC monitor).

If you’re excited about the prospect of playing first-person shooters on Switch, Doom is a good bell-weather. Personal physical limitations and hand size seem to be the biggest variable when it comes to enjoying the genre. But even if hands are perfectly built to slaughter demon hordes, you’re still going to have to swallow some iffy visuals.

Handheld first-person shooters tend to be pretty rare, and this is a far more viable product than, say, the PS Vita version of Borderlands 2. Context is important; it’s hard not to be impressed by this version of Doom.

Hopefully Bethesda can get some more oomph out of the Nintendo Switch in the coming months, particularly in docked mode, and show that the Switch can be a home for major third parties. However, I know that I’d personally have held off given the daunting compromise in visuals and performance, even if it is a really good shooter on the go.

If the Switch is the only current-gen system you own, Doom is a no-brainer for anyone into R-rated action games. If you own a PS4 or Xbox One, it comes down to how often you use your Switch as a handheld device. Doom on the move is great and well worth it, but if you use your TV more then you should get it on Sony or Microsoft’s system instead.

Playing Doom on the Nintendo Switch had me marveling at the game in awe all over again. Though it’s been more than six months since the official release of the Switch, the idea of taking a proper, AAA console game with you on the go is still an incredible concept, and it’s on full display here with Bethesda’s Doom port. My experience with Doom on the Switch has been nice, but technology has not yet advanced far enough for us to be able to enjoy a home console experience on a portable device without making a few, crucial sacrifices.

Doom 2016 is still utterly fantastic, the sort of thumping, compelling shooting experience that gets the blood pumping. In a time when so many shooters can feel like rote shooting galleries, Doom feels like something more – and it remains a firm recommendation for anyone who’s yet to play it on whatever platform they can get their hands on.

For the fast paced shooter like Doom, it's noticeable. For that reason alone I would deduct 2 points of the final score, but on the other hand, the Switch version, essentially IS a portable version, which is very impressive ... and let's not forget that you get all DLCs. Thank you Bethesda and Panic Button for bringing the game to the Switch. The advantage of taking this game on the go is a fair trade off for the 30 Frames per second that the game runs on. Play it.
