    Intro

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the console follow up to the critical apprised portable outing, New Leaf. Nintendo has hit most Switch outing out of the part, so hoping the Animal Crossing would go leaps and bounds beyond previous titles is to be expected. While Nintendo mostly pulls this off, there are a few things that bring this title down.

    Story/World Building – 3/3

This topic a bit hard to talk about due to the nature of Animal Crossing. There is not much of a story so everything comes down to the world-building that is used through characterization and everything that happens within the world. Characters are varied and fun to interact with. You normally don’t see the same dialog twice. You feel like you’re having real conversations with neighbors that live next to you. Fleshed out characters help motivate you to keep building your island so all your virtual friends can have their best lives.

    Gameplay – 2/4

While there nothing inherently wrong with the gameplay, flaws start to show their ugly head once you start playing for a long period of time. Everything from fishing, collecting items to use for customization, crafting items, and shaping the world to your liking works well. The problems come in with the slow archaic menu system. It takes forever to craft items, selecting multiple of the same item, and talking to villagers for options. The option to fast skip text or being able to choose multiple of the same item would help tremendously. Online play is even more restrictive. It’s fun to hang out with friends but you are locked out from almost everything you can do on your island when someone else is visiting. You even have to watch a 30-second cutscene every time someone comes or leaves your island, stopping you from whatever you were doing. I think everything else works well with new additions such as terraforming landscapes and crafting items, which are great additions but changing the menu systems would greatly improve the overall package.

    Technical/Performance – 3/3

Nintendo must have put a lot of time into the visual aspect of this game because for a game that focuses on cartoon looking animals, there are so many jaw-dropping models scattered throughout this game. Decorative items, fossils, fish, and bugs all look stunning. They mesh well with the cartoony aesthetic of the game and make it all the more satisfying to build your island. The soundtrack is pretty good albeit a bit repetitive at times. Nothing terrible but nothing outstanding. If there is one aspect that Nintendo is good at, it’s the technical side of their games.

    Verdict

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will please fans of the series while welcoming newcomers all the same. It’s a fun game for all ages that don’t mind playing a game with a slower pace. There is always room in the gaming market for a game like this but I would like to see menus be a bit more intuitive so I don’t have to spend 2 hours doing something that should have taken half that time. I recommend a purchase at full price if you are a fan of this style of game. If you’re not big on life simulation games or don’t have the time to play, you can wait a while before picking this one up.

Really enjoyed it. Has some pacing issues and if you don't want to timeskip you run out of stuff to do pretty quickly. If you're an old fan of the series, you're gonna love this one. If you're new to town, get ready for some minor but strange mistakes.

One island per user has completely ruined the game experience for me. The switch has always been a family console and expecting families to purchase multiple machines in order to have their own island experience is simply unforgivable.

However, the longer you play, the more you realize that - in comparison to Animal Crossing games in the past - there's really not much to do/not much content in the game.

For any other game, being enjoyable for 80 hours would be amazing, but Animal Crossing has always been designed to be a game which can be enjoyed essentially for as many years as you want. But there's just not enough to do in New Horizons - a ridiculous amount has been cut from previous games, with not enough new things added to make up for it. I imagine Nintendo's plan is to add these things back as free content updates, which is understandable from their perspective as it will keep people playing the game, but there's just not enough content in the base game to keep the game feeling fun and not like a chore to play everyday. Additionally, the villagers have been watered down so much that dialogue is repeated almost constantly, and the characters barely have any personality anymore.

However, the game still gets a 8/10 from me, because for the first 80 hours or so it's the most fun I've had with a game in such a long time!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If i have to be sincere... Only is fun for 1 person because the rest of people who want to live in the island can’t participate in the projects. This means that if the principal player don’t progress in the game, the rest of the players can’t progress too. Does this means that if i want to participate in the decisions of creating the island i have to buy another game? I don’t see very fair and economic doing this.
I hope Nintendo decides to do an actualization soon deleting all this barriers to the rest of players in the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Animal Crossing is a very fun game to play, mostly in the beginning. First off you're first two islanders are not totally random as the male will always be a Jock villager and the female will always be an Uchi villager. So in those regards if you're favorite villager is in one of those two categories then you could just keep soft resetting until you get one of them. Now there is a lot to do once you begin like fishing and catching bugs for your museum, but there is a lot of halt in progress in trying to get materials once you need to open the shop and it is expected in Animal Crossing that you will need to wait for it to open. There's really no problem with this and if you can't really wait just time travel a day ahead if you really don't wanna wait, it just depends on how you want to play. Now as of now it seems like a just long halt waiting for something new to happen. Of course since it's now June there is a lot more fish and bugs you're able to catch so that can give you something to do, but what happens when you catch everything you need? It seems like a cycle of just waiting for something new to come or just hoping a new event will happen soon, but besides that right now we need some quality of life changes. Like being able to access materials from home, people able to craft multiple things at once, etc. We got an upgraded inventory and it still feels small having to hold all these materials around all the time. Now moving on the topic of villagers, at least now you don't have to worry about a villager moving away on you randomly since they will always ask if they should leave or not, but it does get a little repetitive talking to them because they mostly say the same things all the time and if you have two of the same personality types of two villagers, you're not seeing double, you're seeing the same dialogue. But besides that, they are at least very interactive now and don't just walk around aimlessly doing nothing. On to the topic of online, since I only really play with one person it doesn't work that badly, but when in a group of people it could be very annoying seeing someone arrive every 5 minutes and having to wait through the loading time. Besides that, it doesn't really feel like there's much to do online, it just feels like you're doing your basic activities but on someone else's island. Sure you could come up with some mini games to play with your friends, that's always an idea, but that's not content from the game. That's you coming up with your own ideas of how to make the game fun. As of right now the game feels very stale, and just waiting around for something new to do isn't very exciting, hopefully we get some new content soon because as of right now everything just feels repetitive.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Been playing this game since launch and was really excited for this game beforehand, at first I was in love with the game and just happy to play a new animal crossing game on switch, I loved the fact we started off with basically nothing and had to work with Tom nook to build up our island, but after completing the little story mode in nook and having played the game for a while it’s not all I thought it would be. First I do love the fact that we have a lot more ways when customising our island such as getting to place and move villager houses, shops and museum and even our own house and the new terraforming tool is great, also really like the idea of crafting our own items and furniture feels like it gives me more things to do in the game itself and helps me when wanting more furniture/ items when doing my island up. Also love getting to go to the NMT islands to find villagers instead of getting a random villager moving in when one moves out. There is also a lot more seasonal events in the game which gives the player a lot more to do in game. Graphics have obviously improved and I actually like the new music in the game, and there is a lot more with character customisation. I feel like they have gone all out with the customisation in the game which I love as I can really be creative with my island But I feel like a have more negatives than positives which is a shame because i was really looking forward to this game. The game has improved in many ways but in others it just lacks a lot, firstly I feel like a lot of the personalities of the villagers just feel the same and they say the same things quite a lot and as soon as you speak to them once they kind of get sick of you if you try again, there is only 2 shops in the game (able sister and nooks cranny) and evening though these shops are good, I feel like we need more shops in the game and the shops we have could me improved so much more, for instance in able sisters when going into the changing room you can only buy a set of clothing and then need to come out and then back into the changing room and rinse and repeat if you want to buy multiple sets, it gets quite annoying after a while, also nooks cranny is lacking I feel like a get a lot of repeat furniture and the shop itself only has one upgrade with is a downgrade from previous games, this game does offer crafting so we can make most stuff ourselves but there’s a lot of furniture you have to buy and also I loved upgrading the shop multiple times as I became a goal for me. The game is either missing previous NPC’s or they are again lacking such as Leif and kicks only showing up every now and again only with a stall with a select amount of items and then the likes of rooster and his shop and a bunch of the ACNL Main Street shops missing with there NPC’s missing. The Nook mile tickets are w good idea but the items you can buy or always the same apart from the fence diys as they change daily, and I feel a lot of the NMT Islands become very similar after a while and don’t really offer anything unless your looking for a villager or a specific rare island but even then I feel like they should offer more, also more of a minor issue but I think we should have more custom design slots, we do have more than what we had in ACNL but still we should have a lot more, I feel like I see so many amazing custom designs online but I can’t use them as I have filled all my slots which custom designs that I am currently using on my island

Also there is another 2 main issues I have with the game first being that there can only be one island per switch so if you share a switch with someone and you both want to play the game you have to play on the same island and only one player can do most of the stuff such as starting the island up when you create it, feel like this is such a step back considering the switch itself feels like its advertised as a family sharing console, also don’t like the fact that there is no cloud saves so if you make an island on one switch you can only play it on that switch, I think they are trying to make a way round this but still annoying

I think a good thing about this game is that the devs are frequently updating the game and adding stuff in to the game bit by bit so a lot of the issues I have could be added in through an update which is good but that’s if they choose to add this stuff into the game and also I feel like some of my issues and things missing from the game shouldn’t of been added through updates they should of been apart of base game Overall I am still enjoying this game a lot but it could be so much more.

The game itself is endearing....beautiful....well crafted....and has the bones for longevity....IF (and a very big "IF", indeed) you are the primary player on your island.

My youngest daughter is the primary island owner......and I have played with her as a visitor. I am here to say...that the experience between the primary owner and the visitors is vastly different. Visitors are essentially drones for the primary. There's no joy to be had because there's none of the feeling for working for something you consider "yours". And therein lies the rub, friends and neighbors. In terms of a gaming experience to be shared with others....this game is crap. But, in terms of playing the game for one's personal experience of personalizing your island and interacting with AI's.....this game is pure gold. In as such.....to require families to have to BUY A WHOLE NEW SWITCH GAMING CONSOLE......AND...TO HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW GAME CARTRIDGE ITSELF TO PLAY A SEPARATE GAME SAVE WITH A NEW ISLAND......IS ABSOLUTELY A DISGUSTING MONEY GRAB ON NINTENDO'S PART! There is no other way to interpret this maneuver by Nintendo. It's inexcusable and its egregious enough of a ploy to drag this reviewer's review score alllllllll the way down.

There are times when coercive publisher behavior....consumer ransom, so to speak.....is so repulsive that outcry is the only way to change that behavior. It happened to EA with Battlefront ii. It's not going to happen to AC:NH, though I know. Nintendo is too impeachable to the millions and millions of fans. They can do no wrong. Still....there are some here who've been courageous enough to trash the score for trashy behavior. Kudos to you.....you know who you are.

This is a fantastic game. Let's get that nailed in right out of the gate, because while I agree with the complaints about Nintendo's handling of cloud saves, individual islands and so on, I don't think that reflects so poorly on the game that it deserves to be review-bombed. Though I do believe review-bombing has its place and if it helps, then so be it, I won't object.

    This is the BEST

Though I do believe review-bombing has its place and if it helps, then so be it, I won't object.

This is the BEST Animal Crossing game. Period. It's not only visually stunning, it has tons of improvements large and small that have made this a joy to continue to play. Usually I'm done with Animal Crossing by now. I buy a copy, I play it for a month or two, then I drop it and rarely ever come back unless really bored and only for a few minutes, even for holiday events.

But with the wide depth of customization options for your villager, your home and your island, this really is the most control we've ever had in an Animal Crossing game.

To counter the negativity, let's point out some of the pros:

First, you can customize your character right from the start, rather than getting random hair and face options. You have limited options at the start, but you can unlock more later and it's as simple as checking your face in a mirror to change literally any aspect of your little avatar's personal appearance.

Storage items are linked to your house storage. Namely your clothing. So basically not only will your wardrobe serve as a wardrobe (even if placed outdoors), but so will your fridge, your cooler, your safe, etc. It's a little silly, but honestly it's a nice way of having a way of changing your outfit wherever you go while blending the furniture in. Don't want a wardrobe outside just to change? Put a fishing cooler by the shore or something. It's great.

Second, you can place furniture items outside. This, combined with the much-touted island designer tool (place paths, pools or rivers of water and cliffs), allows you to make your town look the way you want it like New Leaf could only DREAM of achieving. Gone are the public works projects for a bench that take a whole day and a ludicrous amount of funding (and weird celebrations about a piece of furniture being delivered). Gone are the days of feeling like your town would take YEARS to look the way you want it to, with cheap paths that hitting the wrong button over would get rid of (though that feature is still there for custom design paths and I HATE IT; fix this, Nintendo).

Now if you want to have a bench outside Able Sisters for your villagers to rest their buns, you just find a bench (or build one yourself with the handy new crafting system) and place it. That's it. You can even move it around like it was inside of your house.

Third, as mentioned, CRAFTING. Many people were worried about this when it was introduced and there are valid complaints about it that even I have, but this is 100% a change for the better, it really is. Yes, your tools now break. And that sucks. Especially since all tools break now and you can't even check durability, but making them is easy enough and that's only a small part of what this system offers. There are tons of basic, unique and holiday-oriented craftable items that you can make over and over if you're dedicated enough to find the recipes, the materials and make them. And since getting recipes is a daily affair (every day there will be a bottle on the beach with a random, hopefully new, recipe in it), you're going to discover tons of cool new stuff every week, as long as you keep turning Animal Crossing on and messing about.

Fourth, Nook Miles. I don't think I've heard anyone complain about this. And no one should. It's nothing but a good thing to give you incentives to do stuff like fish, catch bugs, hunt fossils, talk to villagers, etc. It's encouragement in the form of "miles" to get you to play the game, where you can then redeem those miles for special recipes and items for yourself and your town. Custom phone case, fence recipes (fences are great for customization and another perk of the new game), furniture items, nook miles tickets to go to a randomized island and hunt collectible fish/bugs and resources.

You'll first start off with static, one-time-only rewards like a couple hundred miles for catching 10 bugs, then a thousand or so for 100, then catch 200+ and you get 2,000 miles (along with titles for your villager's passport, if that at all interests you, which you also get miles for editing once). Then after paying off your vacation package with those earned miles, you can build a house and start earning miles in the form of daily, renewable objectives (shoot a balloon down for some miles or assess x number of fossils) so you never run out of things to keep working towards if you want to keep yourself busy. It's great motivation to keep playing, though eventually it does become a bit bland, I won't lie. Still, I like having it.

I've run out of characters, sadly. It's a fun game.

It's lovely to see, in the time of forced quarantine, a game touting itself as a stress relieving, calming, creative time spender, to literally 'yoink' that promise away for everyone but the first household member to log on.

Anyone who has anything to do with this should be ashamed, because you should know, and I don't think I'm the only one: you literally made my kids cry. Not because they're spoiled, or that they can't share, or they won't work together. It's that they saved up for something that was advertised as "something" and got absolutely blindsided by a product that is specifically, maliciously exclusive of their creative interests. It's about having watched hours of people loving the game on youtube, and then the game saying, 'No, you absolutely cannot do what they are doing.'

Of course, the "same island" mode as it exists would be SO MUCH FUN...if it was an option.

If you gave this game a good score because you're the only person playing it...I think you're missing the point. This game is mean to families. It is. There's not really another way to put this.

I just bought it, and I let my brother start the game, and it turns out that with my account I can't get the progress of the game to advance, when it's my Nintendo Switch. Terrible decision that there is a single spokesperson for the island.

I am disappointed in the game, since in that case they would have better allowed one island per profile.

All of the other games didnt recieve a negative rating due to this, so please, if you are new in AC, I suggest that you should inform yourself before buying the game.

Now, putting all that anger aside.... Animal Crossing New Horizons it's been the best game of the series.
*DIY recipes: A whole new feature that makes you work hard to get specific items and even trade recipes with other players
*Event and new features updates: Allowing you to have more special visitors, more DIY recipes, more festival events, new building upgrades, etc.
*Clothing: A huge amount of clothing, costumes and more. All of the clothing with vivid colors and an excellent design.
*New villagers and new ways to get them: New flashy and adorable villagers like Raymond, Judy, Shreb, etc. And also the new feature: campsite, where you can get a random new villager. You can now help/avoid villagers to leave your island and they cannot move out without your concern. Additionally, if a villager moves out you can invite friends or other people to come and pick up villagers to move to their islands.
*Nookmiles program: Doing specific activities will allow you to redeem Nook miles, which can be used for Nook Mileage Items or for Dodo Mystery tours. These activities vary from completing one time only objectives, to random daily chores.
*Dodo Mystery tours: Allowing you to go to randon small islands where you can not only get more resources but even find a new villager
*Enhanced online mode: Even though it sometimes crashes, this mode is way better than in the other games. Allowing you to trade, explore, fish, catch bugs, get new DIY, talk with special guests and more.

In short, if you are looking ofr a life simulation game and love animals, designing and even interacting with other people online, this game is definitely for you. Highly recommended :)!

PS: Prepare to invest a HUGE amount of your time in designing and decorating your island haha

Spend a good amount of time with it and you will see how careless and thoughtless some of the design decisions are. Crafting seems to have been added as an afterthought because it polled well with focus groups. Building your own tools fits the theme of beginning life again on a new island, but after it loses its novelty, its just a VERY basic durability system that doesn’t show any gradual degradation. Your perfect-looking net or axe just vanishes with a poof after enough uses. It tries to encourage a loop of gathering and crafting, but crafting more than one or two things at a time is so tedious I’d often find myself pulling up a different screen to look at. I’m not saying the system doesn’t belong in the game, but the combination of ‘only random’ (still multiple duplicates or recipes from the recipe kits available at the very start of the game) recipe acquisition, clunky crafting UI, and literally no form of progression makes me wonder how much more robust this kind of system could be in 2020.

The biggest killer for me was the villager system. If someone moves out you get a vacant lot in their place. It will randomly fill after some random number of days. This feels like someone else making villager choices for you while you accidentally left your switch unattended. I think this is so you will feel pressured into buying Amiibos to help replace villagers you did not invite to your island. Having them move out on their own can take WEEKS (This system is what made me want to leave this review).

Many of the systems in place to add a sense of a dynamic town begin to feel punishing. Random vendors/NPC visit the island but are limited to one visit per week. Take a day off from playing when the ones making collectibles of the things you caught happen to be visiting? Better luck next week! There are a lot of QoL issues that become infuriating after you spend enough time with the game. So many buttons go unused in menus and elsewhere. Buying items requires you to get them one or five at a time, clicking through multiple screens of unskippable text each time for the privilege. It just seems like they ran out of time making all the items and focusing on visual appeal (It’s great!) and had to sacrifice having a deep look at the big flaws in this iteration. This game will be worth buying when it’s been out for a few major overhauls. They’ll focus on seasonal events and patching out exploits in between DLC releases. My prediction is they will never make any attempt at addressing the ‘minor’ issues outlined here because they don’t break the game, they just make it more frustrating to play.

Nonetheless when I came downstairs I was so excited to do the same, but then I noticed something odd, I didn’t get to create my own island. I became a “side character” in my nine year old sisters island. It was devastating, I tried to go along and play anyways but I’ve decided to give up, once I realized I won’t get to move lots or do ANYTHING BIG TO CUSTOMIZE the island it’s worthless to me. It makes me so sad to see her play the game and I wish I could do all the things she does, but I can’t. I don’t get to do much but chop wood and run around Expand

I wanted to love this game but i just can't when the game has the insane restriction of only 1 island per switch. meaning that if you are one of the many people that share a switch with multiple people TOO BAD! This restriction was not done because of technical limitations but because Nintendo was greedy and wanted to reach their slimy disgusting hands into your wallet to take even more money from you. So thanks Nintendo. Thanks for putting unnecessary restrictions on your game that prevent certain people from enjoying a product that they paid for. Expand

New Horizons is my first animal crossing ever, I had to see what all the ladies were raving about…
So I sat down with your girlfriends favorite game.. and while it took me a while to get it.. I got it…
The Good of animal crossing new horizons is its addictive and calming, a game all about chosing the layout of your island and building it, letting it flourish.. learning new items to craft, becoming friends with your neighbors, ctaching bugs, fishing, collecting shells.. palnting flowers, planting trees.. just enjoying the breaze through your Nintendo switch, all on your journey to make your newly aquired island livable.. you can earn cash by selling these items you collect and use this cash to buy items to furnish your home or pay of your debts to obtain an even bigger and better home… its anice little carrot at the end of this stick, collect, craft, design until youre statisfied.. there is no end goal here.. this is a game all about playing until youre done.. not until the game is done.. until you are done, until youre bored of it.. as this is a game meant to be played throughout the years to come.. stopping in for an hr or so a day, slowly progressing your island… and onto the bad of animal crossing progression here is far too slow, it took me 6 real time days to do anything beyond fish or collect bugs… as once again this game runs in real time, when youre told a building will be done tomorrow, the game literally means tomorrow, but for the sake of this review I time skipped with the switches settings.. I get that this is a game meant to be chipped away at, but I feel its ridiculous to expect someone to invest 6 days into a game they just purchased before things start getting good… and the only other bad here is coop.. you cant share your nintendo switch with your significant other or siblings… one switch shares an island.. but other than those 2 huge knocks theres everything here an animal crossing fan could want… and for those into games they can hop into to relax, destress, and decorate a little, catch some bugs or fish, dig some fossils for the museum..
The decorator in you, the collector in you.. both will shine with excitement for hours…
For me personally Animal Crossing New Horizon got 10 hours out of me before I was over it.. but its okay to be over it.. This is what makes this game so special, Theres no pressure, everything is at your pace, and the day or hour you decide to leave your island is a day youll look back with memories of collecting or gathering this, the moment you spent inside of your head as you fished.
Animal Crossing New Horizons is one giant exhale.
I give Animal Crossing: New Horizons
    an 8/10

This games is amazing. Creating your very own, unique island is extremely fun. This game is so close to being perfect but it is missing a fair amount of the previous game's content. This will all most likely be resolved when updates come out. Nearly perfect.

My wife and I bought this game. We both paid for it (half and half).
I just realize I can't contribute with important decisions on the island just because I started to play after my wife and she is the only one that can make important decisions in the island. That sucks, Nintendo, that really sucks! We won't spend on another Nintendo switch + another AC game to play the way we want to! Fix

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted this game so bad, and bought three copies, one for me and the others for my best friends.
I started to play and two weeks later my girlfriend wanted to play too.
We discover that she could do nothing without me in "our island".
I asked my friends to borrow me their copies of the game, to discover that even with other cartridge, was the Same **** I regret every penny spend in that game. I changed my animal crossing por a xone control.

Absolutely abhorrent behavior from Nintendo to ruin so many people's experience on the off chance that they buy another nintendo switch. Just horrible.

I now you can create one Island but is very very good game.
Animal Crossing series haven't a fantastic life but this game is the best of the best when we are in homes (because COVID19).

The fact that you can only have one island on a system is straight up garbage. I live with siblings and I am not too keen about sharing a island.

Unable to actually play the game I payed for because SO opened it first? How is this ridiculous cash grab allowed ? I am not gonna buy another switch to play a game just to have my own island.
Do not buy if multiple people use the same console.

I would give a 10, but this game definitely needs some fine tuning, which Nintendo will probably not listen to. Let us not forget who are we talking about after all.
The main reason is the stupid progress being restricted to the first player who boots the game and you can only have a single island per console. The player 1 is the island representative who can makes the progress, everyone

Overall, AC is a game where you create a bond with all your villagers and town. You get this change of pace from our fast IRL and see your little village growing into a teeming town, very slowly if you don't change your in-game time and to me, it's that feature that really makes the AC unique.
Some quality of life tweaks are very needed to make the game more enjoyable IMHO. Such as, bulk crafting, shopping cart in the clothes store and many more. However, that this isn't an enjoyable game overall, the feeling of progress with some new features to the series made the game a nice pick.

This game is a huge letdown. The camera is atrocious constantly blocking your line of sight preventing you from seeing what you want to do. The tool durability is retarded in a game where you spend most of your time using them. This game had potential but managed to piss it all away.

For the price of the game having a issue like the Resident Representative locking system is not acceptable. Being forced to switch account to play, doesn't make any sense.

The most cynical cash grab tactic I've ever seen in gaming. Only one island per console is purely there to drive console and game sales. Never buying Nintendo again

This game deserves less than a zero, because if you share the game with another person, such as a sibling, one player will have all content locked behind a $200 paywall, because of the idiotic one island per console. I was excited to be able to experience this game, but my hopes were quickly crushed by this.

I've bought nintendo switch only to play animal crossing with my wife, but because of that ridiculous limitation that only one person is island maintainer and it cannot been changed, I am unable to progress with storyline on my account. Good advice: if you want to play in animal crossing with other person simply DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

Animal Crossing New Horizons is basically perfect. Full of wholesome content that helped us cope with the COVID-19 pandemics, the game keeps the heart of its predecessors while innovating enough to make it unique. It may not have won Game of the Year but it'll be the game we all remember from 2020, for sure.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a stunning new instalment in the Animal Crossing franchise, hindered only by its lack of immediate content, quality of life issues and missing returning characters and features While future updates will give the game long-term playability, for those already sipping vacation juice on their five-star islands, island life feels pretty mundane right now.

It’s full of detail, pretty small things, and surprisingly well working simulations and systems – everything polished in such a way that the player really does care about everything that’s going on. [06/2020, p.40]
