Starting a new school is never easy, especially when it's one plagued by rumours of violent murders and vengeful spirits. Forget the sweats brought on by surprise maths tests: the horrors roaming the halls of Yeondoo High School can outright kill you.

Unfortunately, when a good deed for a fellow student goes wrong you're locked in with them all overnight. With not even a pointy pencil to hide behind you've got to carefully creep through the dark corridors and lecture halls in a psychological first-person frightfest brimming with supernatural terrors, hidden secrets and classic survival horror genre puzzles. All the while, a killer janitor stalks your every move as you make a frantic bid for freedom.

Can you keep your nerve and mastermind a way out of the nightmare? Or will your name be scratched off the next morning's roll call sheet and added to the growing list of victims the building has claimed?

White Day dares to be actually terrifying, something that many modern horror games fail to accomplish. And even if the story ultimately fails to be as interesting as it initially appears to be, the simplicity of White Day's gameplay elements and mechanics make you remember times when horror games used to haunt you with nightmares.

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a great experience for those looking for nostalgic old school survival horror. What it lacks in modern day graphics and mechanics it makes up for with a plethora of lore and swimsuit DLCs. Still, many questionable and outdated design choices hold it back from being truly amazing.

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a somewhat uneven package, arguably held back by how dated the jump scares and obtuse nature of the puzzles feel. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth experiencing, though – if you value an uncomfortable, oppressive atmosphere in your survival horror, along with a haunting and compelling story, then White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is definitely worthy of your time.
