I played this game before but as a huge fan of The Last Of Us franchise I simply HAD to get the PS5 version. It did not disappoint! Anyone who somehow hasn’t played the game definitely should check this out, and for the rest - it’s a money question first and foremost. Secondly, it depends on how much you value graphics, melee and upgrade systems (the fighting mechanics and upgrades were really the only things I’d say changed from the gameplay perspective). Suppose for me it was nice to see Ellie and Joel from the start again as well. So I would definitely recommend this game, but with the above caveats. Expand

This game is an absolute huge steaming pile of garbage. While the game does have significant improvements on visuals and details, it's not enough to justify the $70 price tag. The greedy developers removed the multiplayer and still had the audacity to charge $70 for this cash grab. $70 for half of the game, meaning these lazy developers only did half of the work. While the game does have significant improvements on visuals and details, it's not enough to justify the $70 price tag. The greedy developers removed the multiplayer and still had the audacity to charge $70 for this cash grab. $70 for half of the game, meaning these lazy developers only did half of the work. It's not just a cash grab, it is a literal scam. The developers lied that the game was made from the ground up. The gameplay is about the same trash as the original. This isn't even a remake, it's a re-remaster. Where is ray-tracing? Where is the multiplayer? Why isn't there a first person mode? How about enhancing the gameplay? Oh that's right, all of that stuff actually requires hard work. One developer claimed there was no crunch in development. This whole "anti-crunch" stuff is just an excuse for developers to be greedy and lazy. I'm getting sick and tired of game journalists and SJWs encouraging these developers to become even lazier. How dare I expect hard work for $70, especially in a so-called remake.

For goodness sake, why are the developers so obsessed with adding wrinkles onto every character. Enough already. They even go as far as to add wrinkles on the kids. Tess looks nothing like Tess. She literally looks like my next door Mexican neighbor in her late 50s cosplaying as Tess. Tommy looks like Prince Charming from Shrek. Marlene looks like Michael Jackson. Ellie literally looks like the Will Smith fish from Shark Tale. Lazy developers copied and pasted TLOU2 models, rather than improving the OG models. Ellie's lip syncing during her first line in the final cutscene of the hotel was awful and PS2-quality. That is embarrasing for a PS5 only title. The story is the typical arty farty "I'm so miserable" plot with cringeworthy dialogue. The soundtrack sounds like it's straight from a PBS documentary. The physics and AI are beyond horrible. This cash grab was clearly made for the upcoming off-brand Walking Dead show viewers to pay more.

It boggles my mind how Naughty Dog rarely gets called out for greed when compared to other greedy developers like Rockstar and Ubisoft, even though ND are much greedier. Let me remind you that this is the same greedy company that had pay-to-win microtransactions in TLOU factions. They added loot boxes in Uncharted 4. I thought gamers hated loot boxes. They removed the multiplayer for all Uncharted remasters and charge full price, and now they have the audacity to cut out the multiplayer for this trash and charge $70. Imagine a "remake" with less content costing more than the original at launch. To make matters worse, these greedy developers had the nerve to make $80-$100 editions of this "remake". It's pathetic to have deluxe editions for remasters. Had this been EA or Activision making all these greedy decisions, the narrative would've been so different. Speaking of Activision, they only charged me $20 for MW2 campaign remastered. At least Activision understands that cutting the game in half means lowering the price.

As I mentioned earlier, there's no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is literally not a reason to play this game again. Charging $70 for a game with no replay value is a cash grab. These lazy developers tried justify the lack of multiplayer with pointless new clothes. It's pathetic that they brag about finally being able to add different clothes in cutscenes, even though other game studios have done that 20 years ago in a PS2 console. What's even more pathetic is that they brag about the useless permadeath mode and speedrun mode as new features. Yeah, because I totally can't just use a timer app and quit in any game after dying. Seeing how ridiculously long it's taking these developers to give me TLOU2 multiplayer, I am going to have high expectations for that stand-alone multiplayer. You better not disappoint me Naughty Dog. Then again I can't imagine how predatory the MTX will be for online, seeing how the greedy developers will obviously use it as a fundraiser for their AAA games, after seeing TLOU2 flooded in the bargain bin. Ellie has a cringeworthy face on the cover of this game. It doesn't help that her head is tilted downwards with that stupid ponytail. This made me remove the cover paper off the game case and rip it into pieces. I don't recommend this poor excuse of a remake at all. Just wait until it's free on PS Plus. You know you're greedy when you make EA and Take Two look like saints in comparison.

P.S. For goodness sake Metacritic, learn to accept different opinions.

I am rating for the original TLOU game here for a 10/10. It would be incontrovertible for TLOU to have a high praise. Well for the Remake, the graphics are still wonderful, but there’s nothing more content than the origin. And 70 dollars may be a little bit too expensive for a Remake like this. After all I had nice time with this new release.

The change in the model of Joel's daughter is not explained. If you want to play this game with the changes you have to pay full price (80 USD). You can't roll like in the original PS3 game or its Remastered version on PS4 (Maybe fixed with a patch). "The extra content" promised in his presentation is not in the game (perhaps it will arrive in a DLC). Follow the issue with below average enemy AI, plus follow Elly's AI Deus Ex Machina is still invisible to spores and infected in firefights, getting stuck on tables, walls and stairs or staring at a wall and staring into space in the midst of a dangerous scene. New camera angles were promised that are not there, new mechanics are not there (maybe they will come with a patch)
It does not have multiplayer like the PS3 TLoU

    lo meh:
Are they rating this game or by the studio or by the brand? With a 4K upscaling patch (as in the competition) you could use the same game or the game you already have purchased on PS3 and PS4 with the same result of this game at full price (80 USD, yes, you can find it on cheaper codes, but the list price in a warehouse is 80 USD). New gameplay was promised but it's still the same PS3 game.

Now they have another remaster for PS5, for a full price. Unfortunately, this time it is a cash grab. It somehow looks the same or worse than a PS4 remaster, especially when it comes to the redesigned cast. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 1 is an incredible and faithful remake, its the story we know and love, rebuilt for the Ps5, for a more immersive and memorable perspective and experience. The story is the same but the cutscenes make it feel like you're playing it for the first time again, you will fall in love with Joel and Ellie like you did back in 2013. Gameplay is kickass, with so much replayability in the form of graphic and gameplay modifiers. They added a speedrun and permadeath mode for the passionate fans and I love it so much. They innovated playstation titles with the first ever narrator mode, where the story in cutscenes is read to you like a book, super cool stuff that they didn't need to add but did anyway because they love their fans so much. However, I am dissapointed we didn't get prone, dodge, or craftable silencers from Part 2, those could've changed the gameplay for the better a whole lot more. No multi-player is in this game, but that's okay to me and most fans because we were here for the story, and story only, and ofc... the standalone multi-player game comes out next year, and it makes sense that they didn't go through with remaking a whole multi-player mode and make whole new servers when a game for that comes out next year. The Last of us Part 1, is one of the greatest passion projects I've ever played, it's the most repayable last of us game, and most immersive, although it's $70, it's worth the money if you care alot about this game, and it's story and characters. It's by no means a cash grab, because it's exclusive to a console alot of people don't have still, and all the passion and new additions added, to again, make this feel like it's own experience. The Last Of Us Part 1, although not perfect, and has a big price tag, is definitely worth the money if you're passionate for the series, you'll get your moneys worth, and fall in love with this game again! Great story great game. Had not played it since it realeaed the first time until now on the PS5 with an OLED tv I'm a graphics and story person. Single player games are my main thing. Did not disappoint. Left behind also, in the photo booth and arcade we're tremendous. The only thing stopping it from a 10 was the lack of multiplayer from the original release.

The gameplay is brutal and the story more compelling than ever due to better movements and facial expressions. But unfortunately, it was decided not to take over all the mechanics from part 2. Although Joel is more cluncky than Ellie in part 2, it could certainly have been possible for Joel to dodge the clickers by means of the dodge mechanics (understandable less fluid but still). In the heavy battles this is really something he misses.

The AI on the other hand does feel like a breath of fresh air. Enemies feel smarter and actually try to box you in based on your last known position.

At the end, the Last of Us part 1 is a real treat for the fans and is still a 10/10 masterpiece. Approaching it as a remake, it is almost perfect with a couple of flaws in the dated movement of the main character. It is worth your money, but not for full price.

    Pros:
    - Better AI
    - Facial expressions - Graphics
    - Sounddesign Cons:
    - Movement of main character feels dated compared with part II

It is better, but I understand that some people feel a little cheated paying full price for something almost 10 years old and already remastered once. However, it is a great game and it is better, clearly better than the remaster. I am playing it right now, and I am enjoying the ride for the XXX time :)

Joel takes twice as long to do everything, making him feel sluggish and unresponsive. Swapping weapons, aiming, crouching, picking up items, climbing over ledges are all noticeably slower. Guns have much slower fire rates and there are a ton of ledges and objects you could climb or vault over in the original which you just can't anymore.

Melee combat is straight up broken, extremely common for Joel to lock on to an enemy when starting his Melee animation only to completely whiff or the enemy simply doesn't get staggered, especially apparent when doing a sprint Melee on a clicker with a weapon (this usually gets u killed as a result).

A handful of mechanics from Part 2 have just been haphazardly thrown into this remake without any thought, (I like part 2's gameplay a lot, but that game has completely different balance and mechanics than this game) and some minor mechanics from the original have been taken out. A lot of balance decisions just feel off, like they were made so they could say they made changes from the original game even if they were for the worse. Ai is far smarter and more aggresive (Again I assume to be more like Part 2's) which should be a good thing but with Joel being nerfed to hell and far slower to control, the game on harder difficulties ends up being far harder then the original but in a way that is far more frustrating than fun. Game is also far buggier than the original, it's obviously been awhile since I've played the og game at launch and some of this stuff will but patched, but it definitely feels like I'm running into more bugs then the og or remaster at launch.

I know I'm literally the only person in existence who likes Last of us 1 for it's gameplay but at the end of the day this $70 remake is supposed to be the definitive version and it is anything but. Definitely don't recommend until they patch some of these issues along with a severe price drop. Unfortunately I assume some of these decisions were made to make Joel feel more "realistic" so probably won't be changed. Very disappointing.

Only down sides for me were the fact that the infected felt like an afterthought. Every time I encountered a bunch of them I would dread it because it just felt like filler between me and the main storyline. But fortunately there weren't too many huge encounters so I didn't feel like I was pulled away form the story too long.

As much as we love the skeleton, the way it’s been built upon here feels like a missed opportunity. The chance to incorporate Part II’s stellar gameplay evolutions into the original heart-wrenching story was there; had Naughty Dog taken it, it could have been a game-changer. Instead, this feels like an obligatory reshoot. Yes, it’s visually stunning (one of PS5’s best), and yes, things have been changed. But the end result? Too familiar. Neat extras are here, like a speedrun mode, behind the scenes videos, and commentary tracks – but we’d hoped for something bolder. [Issue#19, p.74]

The original The Last of Us will always be my favourite PlayStation game. The narrative is amazing, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is wholesome and it all culminates into a satisfying story that will bring tears to your eyes. However, I do not recommend the remake. Even though there are extensive graphical enhancements, 60FPS support, DualSense support and a variety of accessibility options, none of this justifies the admission price. And, above all, there was really no need for this remake, the original is perfect as it is and available on PS Plus. Skip it and wait for a fat discount if you are keen to try it.
