Now about the rest. I don't mind it literally ripping page after page from DS' book when it comes to the general plot arch and aesthetics - I was longing for a good sci-fi blockbuster. But the plot is just outright expectable and boring, characters are paper thin and melee mechanics just...horrible. Difficulty spikes are bizarre, boss(es) are bizarre, UI is awkward. Sigh..

The Callisto Protocol is great!! I can’t believe I put off buying it for months because of the poor YouTube reaction, twitter response and pro/user reviews!! They were all wrong! The thing we all have to do over and over in a video-game is what matters most. For some games it’s puzzles, for other games it’s climbing, parkour, fast gunplay, or platforming. In Callisto Protocol, it’s melee and shooting. And it has to be fun, right? Well, it is!! It’s FUN as hell!! Plus it looks STUNNING!! Wanna compare it to the Dead Space Remake? Ok; Dead Space has great shooting and cheap melee combat. The Callisto Protocol has great melee combat and good shooting. Now that i finished the game and started a New Game Plus, I revised my grade from an 8.8 to a 10! It's just as good as The Last of Us. To me it's the perfect game!

What exactly happend with this game ? Nobody was probably more excited about that than me with preorder day 1! As big Dead Space fan I thought that can't go wrong. A lot of tbhings are done wrong in this game. Fight is little too clanky. Hope they will learn and make next project better.

I am playing the PS5 version though and it has been mostly very smooth. I would say this game is a legit 8. atmosphere is great combat is decent graphics and sound are fantastic. The Callisto Protocol is the exact opposite in which the atrocious combat system ruins the rest of the games experience by forcing players to utilize a frustrating dodge and move mechanic almost as if I was playing some sort of boxing game in a supposedly "horror" game.

Each enemy encounter is a fight for your life and not in the sense of dread or fear that a horror game should impose on its player but rather it's a fight against the poorly designed melee combat system. After the first hour I found my self frustrated at every turn almost to the point of just turning off the game entirely but I had to endure.

The horror aspect of the game are generic and predictable jump scares utilizing the same tactics they used in Dead Space. The sound design is the only saving factor of creating a dreadful atmosphere with bumps and creaks to keep players on their toes. Other than that don't expect a thrilling story. I'd advise on buying this game when it's on sale for $20 or less...It's not worth the full price let alone a season pass.

The weapon upgrade system is fun by how they add different parts to the weapon by printing it but they could have added more weapons to choose from because when I finish it, I only use 3 types. Also, they could have added more different types of enemies or added more boss battles with different designs. The story is okay just average. Some of the best use of lighting, shadows, fog, atmosphere and immersion I have ever experienced in a video game. Textures and details are top notch. Sound: 10/10 In my opinion, the sound design of this game deserves a huge nod. It is flawless actually. The music and different beats in anticipation to new areas and enemies is outstanding and it makes the gameplay feel dangerous and exciting. The screams in the distance, clinking of pipes, howls, growls, footsteps, hissing etc… is all hyper realistic and amazing. Bravo!!

The Good: The graphics are swell. The Bad: 1) Camera control during combat is a mess because you can't lock on to enemies. 2) Since the resources in the game are so limited, it's impossible to fully upgrade all your gear -- you can only fully upgrade maybe 3 out of the 6-7 weapons in the game. Often, enemies jump out of nowhere, hitting you with unblockable attacks that are less scary than they are annoying. You literally can't avoid taking damage from these surprise attacks and you can't see them coming to avoid them. 6) The controls are just bad. Often, when I wanted my character to run, he wouldn't on the first attempt. It takes a full 2 seconds to turn around and look behind you. Switching weapons mid combat when you have more than 2 it's a real pain. Etc. 6) I could go on-- wasted potential of their cast, lame upgrade system, and overall just not very fun. This game is destined for the bargain bin. Expand

I wanted to play the game, come back to my dweeb gamer social circles and tell everyone what a refreshing, ground-breaking innovative product this is within the sad sea of the gaming industry that it is today. But instead of it being a beautiful sailing ship in it, it turned out to be just another piece of floating garbage.

I'm not going to even get into the details, you can find them all out by reading other reviews. In short - it just does not play or feel good. You walk through corridors, maneuvering a broken melee combat system. Finished this one hallway? Good. Here's another one just like it. This time? More enemies. Did we design a combat system that makes it fun and engaging to encounter them? NOPE. Just keep trying your luck positioning yourself right while holding a left thumb stick at a certain direction at all times. Game design 101.

There's nothing interesting, thrilling, nor exciting that wants you to keep sinking your precious time into it. It's a generic journey that feels more like work than a fun experience. If I were you, I'd take my bets out and replace them on Dead Space Remake, because in 2022 the best game design seems to be the one from 14 f'ing years ago.

Main complaints are combat and yes it should have been more refined and it shows when you have to fight groups of enemies but it's more than manageable and not game destroying. I think peoples main problem with the combat is that easy is more like medium and medium is more like hard. Changing the difficulty may change the experience for you.

Do I regret paying 70 dollars and tax? No. Would I recommend paying 70 dollars? No

Hallways are coated with blood, corridors are cramped, littered with severed limbs and are dimly lit. You can hear the screams of victims off in the distance, it's all pretty engaging especially if your playing at night. The enemies looks grotesquely amazing and so does Callisto's graphics in general. The combat( I'll get to the negatives later) is gritty and in your face, especially the physical combat and some of the death animations. The gun combat isn't anything special or new but serves its purpose. The GRP is easily the best mechanic to me and allows you to throw enemies into shredders, spikes, off cliffs etc so using can really save you ammo. Enemies can be tough, even by themselves so using your gun, GRP and stun baton together seems like what the game designers were going for and that's a good thing since it (kinda) keeps the combat from getting stale. The music and sounds can really get your heart pumping when walking down a smoke filled corridor. And the machine guards are a nice touch from fighting humanoid monsters. The controls aren't exactly bad, I like that you use L1 to run instead of mashing L3, and I like the use of the PS5 speaker when conversations start so that's another plus. some people might not like that there isn't a map but I think that's one of callisto protocol's best features. Well, now for the negatives. First, the story, again, I haven't beaten it yet but the story is pretty meh right now in my playthrough of callisto protocol. It seems pretty straightforward and while that isn't bad, it does seem a little predictable. The characters seem extremely one dimensional, Jacob and Elias doesn't really seem to have personalities and are just doing what the plot needs them to do, I do hope that changes later in my playthrough though but I'm half way through it so I kind of doubt it. The combat is easily one of the biggest problems along with the combat dodge mechanic. Fighting a single enemy can sometimes turn into a boss fight set to bastard mode which I generally like but when two or more enemies show up...your f****d. And that's being generous if all three are In front of you, if one or more enemies are behind you then get ready for a death animation. The dodge mechanic is pretty hit and miss even though the game says there's no timing window but it seems like there is or maybe the game decides whether or not it works but that's with a single enemy, when two or more enemies take a swing at you, your getting hit and it becomes frustrating since you progressively fight two or more enemies at once. Callisto protocol also suffers from glitches from time to time like writing on the wall suddenly disappearing then reappearing, awkward death animations like when you get your eyes poked out, sometimes their thumbs are in Jacobs head instead of his eyes etc these glitches are minor but can be distracting sometimes. And listening to audio while being unable to move really breaks the mood, why not let you move your character while listening to audio files? That just seems lazy. Callisto protocol has issues just like any other game but overall I think it's still enjoyable and worth playing. 8/10 for me. Expand

Combat was really fun, I played on Medium Security and swapped between my guns, GRP and baton regularly in each encounter and found it very satisfying, with very little of the clunkiness I'd heard about elsewhere. Plot was pretty threadbare, but the characters were likeable and engaging. It was definitely more of an action game than a horror game, which I get could be disappointing for some people, but I personally didn't mind. Plus, I think there were some really great atmosphere and tension-building sections (such as the tunnels in the Below chapter, or the Habitat area). It's definitely not a perfect game, it has some issues (underdeveloped plot, poor checkpointing, lack of boss fights/puzzles), but those issues paled in comparison to what the game got right in my opinion (amazing presentation, likeable characters, fun combat). Hope the game does well enough to get a sequel to iron out the issues. Will definitely dive back in when New Game Plus comes out in February, and am looking forward to the upcoming story DLC. Expand

Uninteresting story and bland characters; Design is too linear and straightforward, to the point of feeling dated; Crowd combat is too clunky; Misguided focus on melee combat; Ineffective and impotent attempts at horror.

    Thoughts-
I’ve been very critical of The Callisto Protocol in this review, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have fun with the game. It’s straightforward, brutal, and frequently fun, it looks absolutely stunning, and its atmospheric sci-fi setting is not without its merits, especially if you’re a fan of something like Dead Space. Even so, this isn’t the game that so many of us wanted it to be. It’s rarely scary in any real way, its design its too focused and dated, and its emphasis on melee combat brings its own cavalcade of problems, from clunky and frustrating encounters when faced with multiple enemies to the disappointing dilution of the horror aspect. It’s not a game without merits, but when viewed in the context of its potential and what it was billed as by its developer, it’s hard to label The Callisto Protocol as anything but a disappointment.

The game impressed with great graphics and sound effects, the enemy design is monotonous and the environment looks almost always the same in the entire game. This is not too bad for a playtime of only about 10 hours but 70 euros is the game of the quality and length definitely not worth it, but in the sale it can be recommended.

Have to differ from the general consensus on this game. Great sound design, Amazing graphics, movie like characters. This is one of the better looking games. The combat isn't that great as others mentioned but gotta give this game a 9 for the graphics, sound and characters.

When you have to fight more then 1 enemy - it's just ugly. Bosses? Make 1 fat baddie, then copy-paste it 4 times. Nice.
I think this game shows that you shouldn't believe a aged guy who had just 2 good games, that he can pull it.

Atmosphere: Loved it! Very tense and immersive. I had old good Dead Space vibes.

To summarize: Solid 8/10. It is a good game and definitely does not deserve the hate and low scores! I hope the devs will not be discouraged from doing similar projects!

We are so tired of empty open worlds with 100+ hours of repetitive gameplay. I'd rather have solid 10-15 hours of intense experience like in The Callisto Protocol.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Callisto Protocol delivers exactly what it was marketed as, which wasn't much but I still had fun. I finished the game at just under 7 hours which is about the usual length other survival horror games take to run through and it delivers on fun combat, great atmosphere, and stunning visuals. The story is safe, but I found myself invested enough to want to see it through and find out what was happening at Black Iron. The characters and performances were great, although I would've liked a bit more of Sam Witwer's character as he feels underutilized here. My biggest "flaw" with the game would be that it is not scary, like at all. I would describe it as more of a thriller where the only attempts at trying to establish that fear factor are through expected jump scares and great sound design/atmosphere that works to build tension, but at a certain point you feel powerful enough with Jacob's arsenal that there's no real threat that you won't be able to overcome. I personally enjoyed that feeling though, being ready to conquer whatever was thrown at me next and survive. Overall, Callisto doesn't push the survival horror genre forward in any impactful way, but it's a good addition and I'm glad that it exists. I had a good time and was thoroughly entertained the whole way through. I hope the game does well despite the mixed reception as I very much enjoyed this game as a survival horror fan. Although a lack of content at launch did hurt its replay value and it was a hard sell given it's a 7 hour game being charged at $70.

UPDATE: Dropping my score from a 7 to a 6. The story expansion, which I've forgotten the name of, is the biggest slap on the face to fans of Callisto. Going through the main story just to end up a cripple and get blown up is one of the most unsatisfying conclusions to a video game I've ever experienced.

I have been waiting for a good horror game in the SciFi genre… and I was honestly waiting for Dead Space 4… but no, this game is different. The Callisto Protocol introduces Jacob Lee, an interstellar transporter who gets embroiled in a corporate affair. That’s pretty much it… and gameplay… many people are complaining but I actually find it satisfying. Yes, Jacob is kind of clunky, but it is not bad. I was expecting a shooter, but this game felt like Resident Evil 4… yes, I shoot a limb, run into the foes and give them a nice combo, and automatically a QTE pops up heralding a nice shot from my gun. To conserve AMMO I realize I can take the monsters with my melee attacks, expecting that nice QTE to blast through these foes… but when you get surrounded, yes, it is tricky and sometimes disappointing… but then I unleash a rain of bullets to either immobilize the monsters or give me space for my melee attacks. Combat is good but it can be overwhelming, so you need patience.
Additionally you have a nice GRP gauntlet that grapples foes so you can launch them against other monsters or against environmental threats. There are 5 weapons and you can improve them by collecting credits from fallen foes, or chests.
You can parry and evade and is simple: you just need to hold the directional button left or right and if the enemy you’re facing is throwing you a combo, you need to alternate left and right until you have a window of opportunity to launch an attack. I like it, is different and is good!
The game is not linear from my point of view, yes there is a main path but it has branches for you to explore and get items. I hear others complaining about this, this is not am open world, it is a survival horror experience.
Graphics are superb. I have not seen such detailed animations in a PS5 game, it is good, environments are detailed, dark, gloomy, spooky. When you die, you die in the most goring way… sound, music, and acting is good.

Overall an interesting game, there is potential to keep the franchise moving. I was expecting Dead Space 4, and got a different experience that was troublesome at first to understand the gameplay, some frustrating moments in some boss battles, but after several tries, you’ll get there.
Get it, this game is really good. Performance on PS5 is almost flawless, I never got a crash from the game, just a couple of interrupted animations here and there but nothing major.
Great game, I enjoyed it, and now that I feel more at home with the gameplay, I will go back and increase the difficulty… my recommendation is to start in either normal or easy, as it could be easily frustrating. I did die, a lot, but never felt powerless, with the exception of a few boss battles. Get the game, nice SciFi survival horror experience!

The Callisto Protocol is an interesting case of attempting something new, yet familiar, in an effort to catch a similar lightning in a bottle that the original Dead Space absolutely nailed.
I’m an absolutely huge fan of Dead Space, have been so since I played the original over ten years ago, and I can faithfully say this isn’t quite the Dead Space we know and love. Despite this reality, I’ve come to really enjoy what The Callisto Protocol does different from its spiritual predecessor.

    The Good:
    - The atmosphere is absolutely top notch, the attention to detail in each area is astounding. The graphical presentation, sound design, and overall feel of the environment compliment each other well, emulating that feeling of being all alone in this cosmic nightmare.
    - The presentation and overall graphical fidelity is very impressive, with a fantastic art direction and some of the best graphics I’ve ever witnessed.
    - The performance’s by the cast are all amazing, each character is brought to life through their portrayal. Josh Duhamel (Jacob Lee), Karen Fukuhara (Dani Nakamura), Zeke Alton (Elias), and Sam Witwer (Leon Ferris) were all such a treat to watch and listen to in this title, even if I wish there was more Sam Witwer because I just love that dude lol.
    - The gunplay felt great, each weapon was responsive and the impact felt brutal and effective, even if the guns aren’t quite as iconic as a trusty plasma cutter.
    - Although I am somewhat conflicted on the overall design of the melee combat, I must say that when it hits and works with intended fluidity, it does feel fantastic smacking around the biophage.

    The Bad:
    - The overall design of combat can feel cumbersome and hard to nail without much practice. For the first half of the game I nearly died at least once per encounter, whether I was killed by a full group of 5 enemies or a smaller instance of just 2. I replayed the game right after my first playthrough on the hardest difficulty and was doing much better in comparison, but I can see how this could be frustrating for some, the biophage does not show mercy. I’m apologetic with this aspect because I think once the flow of combat, specifically the melee focused combat, clicks and you understand the best way to approach the hordes on Callisto, you’ll start tearing through all the enemies. - For me, the story is pretty underwhelming. I was really missing the more personal and psychological aspects of a space based horror game. While there is a story and there are sections of intense psychological distress, I felt it just wasn’t at the level I was expecting, which left me feeling a tad disappointed.
    - The lack of open spaces was noticeable. While the latter chapters do open up a good bit, I felt that the first half of the game was almost purely a corridor shooter. Without a doubt my favorite chapter is called “Lost” and it’s where the game really opened up with Jacob finally dawning the space suit seen in all the advertisement and you wander over the frozen surface of Callisto. The “Lost” chapter is where the game really had me in its grasp, where I was really enjoying my time with it. Unfortunately, majority of the game did not carry that same feeling the “Lost” chapter absolutely nailed.

    The Ugly:
    - The Callisto Protocol is just not that scary. A heavy reliance on jump scares is noticeable, an aspect I was very underwhelmed by.
    - The lock on feature the camera utilizes during combat makes it difficult to counter multiple enemies attacking you at the same time. For the most part, enemies will attack you one at a time, however, it’s inevitable that in some situations the enemies will get a cheap hit in simply because you cannot view the attacker and effectively counter, which is beyond frustrating.
    - The enemy variety, for me at least, is the most glaring issue within this title. There are roughly about 6 different enemies, including the final boss enemy, it’s really a shame in comparison to the necromorphs of Dead Space.
    - The boss scenarios are frustrating, simply put. If a boss/mini-boss physically hits you a single time, it’s an instant kill and you have to start the fight over. I’m all for difficulty in games, I love a good challenge, especially so during a boss encounter, but I really do understand why there was so much buzz about this title being too difficult.

    Conclusion:
Overall, it has issues that are noticeable, however the overall structure of the game is appealing and worth a playthrough imo. Is it as good as Dead Space 1 and 2? I’d say no, unfortunately. Is it better than Dead Space 3? Ya, without a doubt. If you like horror and don’t go in expecting a carbon copy of Dead Space, you’ll probably have a good time, even if it’s shortcomings do standout.

And if you get into a boss fight without full health, the injectors are useless and you are fcked. I had to reload auto saves because I was stuck with no amp or health cause you can’t do ANYTHING on the fly, you have to have 10 seconds free to use a health injector and you can’t reload once engaged with a boss that sticks to your tail like fcking white on rice.

I hardly ever screamed “come on for fck sake what is this” at elden ring bosses, they were massively difficult but still allowed the player agency. I always felt like it was my fault when I lost. NOT the case in boss battles here. Story is cool if anemic

    What is great:
    - Graphics (AMAZING)
    - Atmosphere (Great!)
    - Story (I really liked it!)

    What is wrong:
    - Everything seems scripted, this is not what was promised!
    - No replayability potential (scripted stuff + no unlocks + crawl/squeeze sections)
    - So many crawl/squeeze through sections. WHY?
    - Checkpoints in annoying places. Reload, squeeze through all those vents again. Please, no!
    - I don’t want to spoil anything, but at least one of major boss fights was super annoying…
    - Some important QoL stuff missing (for example, you need to stay in inventory to listen to the tapes that you have found)
    - Could be more scary in my opinion, however I do play most of the survival horror games so I’m hard to please here
    - Game could use more enemies variety
    - Not balanced well in terms of upgrades/combat

This is the best looking game that I’ve played on PS5 so far. The only other game that I was super impressed with, in terms of graphics, was Demon Souls remake, but this was already long time ago…

Game is a bit short (8-10h?), however expanding it without fixing other stuff could make the whole experience less fun, so maybe it is a good thing.

I’ve listed many downsides, however it is still a very good game. I’m still looking forward to a DLC.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Callisto Protocol is an unsettling, frustrating, and at times very much an endless torment of a game. You start out with nothing for the first few hours battling strong and terrifying enemies that are taken down only by your own self determination and careful precision to make it to the next reforge to get stronger and yet the more you go the more, the deeper you descend, the more you realize that the creatures aren't scary anymore and are more in your way than anything. The devs wanted to make sure that you had everything you needed to win, with each upgrade your confidence as a survivor grows and makes you a better fighter. The environments were made to seem plain by the reviewers out there but they are carefully made, offering you EXACTLY what you need at all times, whether that be ammo, a fire cannister to destroy your enemies or a spiked wall to turn them into darts on a dartboard and the claustrophobia is REAL, making me many times feel that I had no space and just wanted to get to the next room by any means necessary. The soundwork here is truly amazing, making me hear literally everything going on around me, warning me of someone coming through the vent or jumping down or telling me there is danger around the corner if I'm smart enough to avoid it and take the upper hand. The weapons at your disposal each serve a purpose and can be used in a creative way to make every unique encounter that much more manageable. The creatures themselves are grotesque, brutal, and calculating, the A.I. here is very smart and if you're not careful you will get ganged up on or one of them may just pull you into them so they can give you some bloody combos. The visuals are second to none of course, I don't know how they pulled this off on console but the textures, the fidelity, the careful attention to detail of every piece of the environment is something truly special and I especially was in awe of the lighting here and how everything is just so handcrafted with love and detail. Truly the best looking game I've ever played.

Last but certainly not least is the story. The Callisto Protocol is a domino effect type of game, every action has a reaction and likely a consequence and that is what happens here to Jacob. What happens to him is his own doing, everything you experience as the player could have been avoided and now you're paying the price for it for turning a blind eye to corruption and the greed of scientific and human advancement for profit. The people you meet, the ones who die, the ones who survive, are all in those situations because of you and it's as simple as that. There is no smoke and mirrors here, the message is loud and clear. You, Jacob, are the reason this is happening on Callisto, what happened on Europa, and you have a responsibility to fix it and honestly I very much appreciate that there is no real complexity here and that you feel the full weight of responsibility and want to make things right more than anything. The Callisto Protocol takes a while to get into and yet becomes a game that is hard to put down and not think about, everything I did felt memorable and everything I saw is something I want to forget. Final score 9/10

The graphics were ok not exactly the next gen i know games are capable of today. They looked very washed to me and the hdr implantation was trash. Frame rates dropping in certain areas and it’s completely obvious. The voice acting was very good and I really liked the main characters just wish we had more back stories and more relationship building instead of just throwing them out there. The story was ok, there just wasn’t enough, it was too simple and your kinda looking for more. This game was definitely a build up for future games they just need to fix some gameplay issues. If your looking for basically a very ok dead space clone then sure you can get this but I would just wait for the dead space remake. Overall i would give this a 7/10. I personally even thought it was slightly better than Dead Space Remake (since everyone seems to be comparing these two games). Get this game, but on a sale, it is great but short.

sci fi survival horror game with good atmosphere and mechanics similar to dead space franchise, even the story is prety damn similar, aliens in space and some virus taking over the dead moon callisto, in a prison where previously some evil corporation made experiments with those aliens resulting a deadly virus outbreak. Alright campaign and extra modes and dlc. 9/10

The way Jacob moves in the environment and the little movements he makes is a really nice detail. The use of lighting is superb. All of these things really do make the game feel like a unique experience. There are some issues however, those issues being the combat system at times can feel a little clunky but honestly was not as bad as people are making it out to be. The save system is pretty pointless as if you save the game where you want it will just take you back to your last checkpoint determined by the game. However at most I maybe lost a minute or two so it really wasn't that bad but is still something to address. The performance was good 95% of the time with the occasional frame drop in stuttering happening. I went in knowing what the reviews typically were and honestly I can see how some people may be disappointed but the super low scores seem very unfair. Are there flaws? Yes. But nothing that would make the game as bad as people are saying. I think this is a very solid foundation if another is made. The voice acting is great as well and the dialogue all works well together. There are things that can be improved for sure but overall I would definitely recommend this. Expand

The graphics stand out as the top percentile of todays console games, excluding first party titles. Audio is slightly above average, surprisingly, I did expect more in that department. The universe, the characters and the enemy designs is spectacular and in my opinion is what saves this from becoming an average 3rd person shooter. That and the combat which is unique and quite fun - although not quite ‘’Dead Space fun’’.

It has annoyances though. Far too much crawling through vents (although the vent crawling animation exceeds any title out there), and too much shimmying through crevasses and tight spaces. Really spoils the pacing. Also the stealth areas are tiresome. With such good combat it seemed out of place. There’s a few moments of enemy vocals when there is in fact no enemies to be seen which was a bit of a cheap tactic. Mostly however, I didn’t feel as tense or as scared as I did with Dead Space 1 and 2 - which was where the bar was set for me.

Overall I would very much recommend the game but here’s hoping for a few improvements if there is ever room for a sequel on the horizon.

I consider story ok although I understand why some people might be disappointed in that regard. It's a simple story but a one that makes sense. You don't get to save the world. Your task is to survive, help your (not too numerous) buddies and get the hell out of Callisto. That's more less what everyone would do in similar circumstances.

Gameplay is subpar while combat is just comically bad. Jacob is slow and to add insult to the injury most of the time game doesn't allow you to run. The movement is clunky even in performance mode. Camera is bad. Fighting numerous enemies is impossible. Dodging doesn't work. You can't move while in combat, can't turn back and run away to bide your time and approach the encounter in different way. Instead Jacob just stands there and swings with the baton occasionally shooting mutants. If your run out of ammo it takes forever to reload and it's close to impossible to switch weapon in the heat of the action. GRP is ok but battery longevity is way too short. Overall combat sounds and looks straight bizzare. I recommend playing the game on easy difficulty to spare yourself frustration. I played it on easy and I kind of enjoyed the ride hence relatively high grade.

I liked the game a lot. Im not quite sold on the whole season pass and story dlc stuff, would have been a better idea to make it all free. Nonetheless, this game is pretty cool. Great atmosphere, amazing visuals and a decent story. I know this developer team can do better and would love to see this become a series, as the world seems really interesting and has a lot of potential.

Firstly, someone may think that a monotonous combat system with dodges, although it is so. And the further you go through the story, this system gets a little boring, although it is made in principle in an original way. Yes, even the whole game can be completed, almost, without firearms, using only melee weapons. But still, someone may get bored with these dodges. Second: the plot. In fact, he is not so brilliant, this has already been seen somewhere, heard, read, etc. Again, as you can guess from the trailers, prison, scientists, research, etc. But you hardly notice this flare during the passage, but you just go further and try to get out of this damn planet! On the PS5, by the way, there were no problems either in terms of FPS drawdown or from a graphical point of view. It played great. Here only duration still to increase a little. and so not chic, but a good Horror! Play clearly. Expand

The combat seemed interesting and new at the start, but as time went by, I couldn't help but feel like it got stale, due to the fact that nearly all enemies had similar, predictable attack patterns. Also, probably my biggest disappointment was with the boss fights. Through the majority of the game, there are no bosses, or mini-bosses for that matter, to the point that I was convinced there would be none. The first boss you encounter is simply a bullet sponge with the same old attack style that you simply have to side-step and counter. There were more boss fights after this, but very little variety, and none were memorable in my opinion. I would not recommend someone buy this game until you can get the full game, with the season pass content included, for cheap. Expand

Story is pretty solid for a survival/horror title. Deeply enjoyed this title. I do wish there was a navigation system though. Sometimes I think I'm exploring but I accidentally progress the story. Also would've liked more enemy variety but what we got is still pretty great. I do wish it had new game + upon release but I hear they're adding that later so I won't hold that against it. For a horror game it's not very scary but I honestly haven't been scared of a horror game in the past 10 years or so. So I don't really hold it against it as no other horror game tends to scare me anymore nowadays. Also that story doesn't really take off until the last two or so hours of the game. Otherwise it's mostly just soft teases and such. Unless you listen to all the audio files that you can collect. Those really flesh out the story too.

I think where a lot of people are getting held up on this title is the comparisons they draw to Dead Space. Honestly don't know why outside of the fact that that the game director is the same. But that doesn't mean it's the same title. It also doesn't help that other games journalists kept talking about how it's a spiritual successor and all that jazz. But the devs explicitly said multiple times that they didn't try to make another Dead Space. So I think if anyone plays this and goes in open-minded just willing to see what happens then I think they would really enjoy it. Kind of breaks my heart it's getting all the hate it is for some performance issues.

Anyway if anyone is actually reading my review I highly suggest simply trying it for yourself. Ask a friend if you can borrow it from them or something. Get a sense of the game and try it for yourself. And if you enjoy it maybe go out and buy it. Support the developers on one of their first games as a studio. Cuz I can't play this game without seeing the love and care that actually went into it.

    - La historia es algo normal. Predecible y estándar, posiblemente no te sorprenda nada si estás acostumbrado a jugar survivals o consumir cine/videojuegos de temática espacial/zombis.

Callisto Protocol makes some mistakes, but in general computing the good wins by far. It is true that it is somewhat angry to see that something with so much potential has not been fully squeezed, but what it offers is already much more than most. We trust that combat system that we have loved and its setting to make the game worthwhile and we would love to see a second installment.

A visually beautiful sci-fi experience which, surprisingly, doesn’t resort to simply cloning Dead Space. The difficulty and the fear factor both don’t reach the heights I’d expect, however. A shame! It could have been extraordinary.
