Good Atmosphere, nice soundtrack, I like the game and the combat mechanics. But the Lipsynchronisation is awful, the story behind this game is okay, but not really catching. I played this game 3 times in 3 Days to complete Platin Trophy. You need at least 7 hours to finish the game once. Would recommend this game as a secondhand purchase, but not for the full release price.

Overall it is good, but nothing special.
The atmosphere and graphics are the best (on PS5 sometimes it stutters, not fluid all the time).
Game-play is okay, "building" weapons, adding stuff etc. with that machine/shop is cool. Story is **** to be honest, always the same zombie stereotype. Characters are hollow, no depth. You play as a smuggler/cargo deliverer and somehow he can dodge

You play as a smuggler/cargo deliverer and somehow he can dodge like a ninja and survive like a special forces operator. He could be more believable if he had some more depth.
Maybe with the DLC it will become better.
To be honest at least this game came out "finished" and was playable and enjoyable compared to other games at this price.
I was expecting more and something more different.

Wonderful homage to the original Dead Space from a co-creator of the original Dead Space ... except the story and dialogue, except the story and dialogue are far more trite. And it feels far more repetitive. And it feels more like being stuck in a very boring maze. I preordered this and I was also looking forwards to the Dead Space reboot/remake but this has made me far less enthused.

While I did somewhat enjoy it I'm still disappointed in it for how much potential it had to be a fantastic game.

So I'll go through the pros and cons of the game real quick as a tl:dr for anyone:

    Pros:
    - Nice melee combat

    - Great visuals and environment design

    - Awesome character design

    Cons:
    - Lack in enemy variety and unique mechanics

    -Very linear pathway and story

    - Barebones lore that I did not care for

    - If your pc cannot run the minimum then there will be performance issues

While visually it’s excellent. Good audio. Story is present. My biggest fault would be the clunky combat, the severity of certain encounters that make a game go from tense to pure frustration. I cannot finish the game it’s too frustrating and i’m nearly to the end. Very sad but I think I’ll be giving this one up.

Level design is the bottom of the barrel. linear paths with minimal interction with the environment. small optional side paths exist but but add little to the level design. when traveling make sure to go the optional way first. because the games are full of points of no return. Most of these arent predictable either, such as doors locking behind immediatly for no reason. to top it off youll be slowly crawling and side walking even more GOW ragnarok.
On a related note, inventory and saving is busted. you have a limited inventory but no way to store items. The items you cant pick up will surely be lost on account off the invisible points of no return. saving makes item managment unbearable. a game may save before you pick up optional path items, then dying sends you back to before, not only before the battle, but before you tediously picked up items on a side path. This cant be ignored becuase selling items is key to upgrading. This is why dead space had SAVE STATIONS. I could go on and on about every detail that was done correctly 20 years ago in other games but I wont. Callisto Protocol misses every detail that makes a Horror or Action game work, and worst of all its NOT scary.

the gameplay itself is very hit or miss, while the shooting plays well and I have no gripes, the hand to hand is very clunky and I find myself trying to shoot but he just hits instead when I'm pressing the trigger. they would have been better off mapping these controls differently to avoid these issues as that would have solved my gripes here.

story, it's just treading same ground as other games, nothing noteworthy and after completing it doesn't make me want to replay - I'll most likely forget the game - however... it does have some huge potential, so if they can really get a good writer on board, I genuinely think they have a great IP here.

Overall, it's a mixed bag - I love the little details in the game like the upgrade system and the world building, but the story and gameplay ruins it for me.

enjoyable play for sure, but It's not worth a full retail price.

Story: The game gives you a 1/4 teaspoon of story every chapter and does not keep you interested. The last chapter throws what seems like the whole plot at you, but since it was so poorly developed leading up to the last chapter, it does not leave me wanting more, just insulted. There are things about the plot that make 0 sense (if you pay attention to the story, you will understand why they do not make sense). There are pick ups to learn more about the various named albeit near irrelevant characters; half of which the audio recordings do not play anything (I assumed bugged?). The other half are filled with useless information. Not much to write about the story. I forgot about it, your protag keeps asking throughout: "What's going on" or "what happened" and it does not get answered until the last 15 minutes of the game.

Combat: Terrible if you are fighting more than 1 enemy. When fighting more than one, you cannot see your health bar nor your battery bar well. If you aim down the sights to catch a zoomed glimpse of your bars, 9 times out of ten you will miss your dodge and get hit. In order to "shoot the tentacles" when multiple enemies are around, you have to take a gamble: Risk getting hit by aiming at an enemy, or... Also, there really isn't an option to run away from an enemy once they find you. Turning your back will most likely get you stun/animation locked. The weapons are meh... This is a futuristic game with space ships and established colonies on a moon.... Why am I still using present day style guns... There are two guns that practically match each other, and 2 others match each other as well; no gun was unique.

Audio: The audio was a mixed bag for me. While yes, the environment sounds were done well, its the lack of uniqueness from the enemies what was troublesome. It was kinda difficult to figure out what was lurking based on the sounds as they all pretty much sound similar.

Graphics: The overall look of the game is very well done, though they do come with their issues. It seems the devs sacrificed a more interactive environment and chose a static scene. Example: Dead Space, you walk into various chairs or IV stands and they move out of your way. In this game, you get caught in their collision. Nothing moves when you make impact with it except for random small box containers. This is particularly frustrating and limits your sense of being in the moment especially during combat.

Gameplay: The gameplay is very linear and straightforward with no brain power really required. Your only puzzles are the occasional "fetch a keycard" or "fetch a gate fuse". 0 other puzzles. This is really disappointing especially with one of the items you pick up that is only used for combat; it had great potential for puzzles. The inventory management is abysmal and the worst feature of this game. You have to wait until you are half way done with the game to expand your inventory, and then the game throws everything at you to fill it to help you upgrade your gear. The sense of progression is terrible during the first half without this inventory upgrade. Also... NO STORAGE aside from your inventory. Forced animations by going too close to crevices is really frustrating especially when they are packed together in small areas with enemies around.

Overall: The first half of the game... starts off extremely overwhelming and over-the-top with random fire, subverting your expectations that this is a melee game, and a know-it-all NPC telling you exactly what to do non-stop. As you progress, expect every single room to constantly throw 3+ enemies at you. There is no build up to the horror roots this game was inspired by; you will be burnt out because of the consistent forced repetitive combat. "Oh you cleared this room out already for a 2nd time, well the third time will have even more!". Do not expect story to keep you engaged as it is mostly missing. I was very relieved the game was over when it was; I was so exhausted from the non-stop combat. 8-10 hour length.

For a game like this, which involves a lot of dark corridors with flashing lights, I really recommend turning off performance mode so you can get the ray tracing effects. The sound design is also another area the game excels in, especially with the ambient noises. The voice acting is good, but can be a bit cheesy at times. I think the sound design is a very great feature of this game as it really adds tension to the slower moments and really adds to the brutality during the action moments, it’s something you have to experience with headphones to get the full effect. This game has the best graphics I’ve ever seen, and the sound design is up there.

The gameplay was decent, but didn’t feel fully intuitive at times. I believe it felt a bit clunky because the controls felt “heavy”. Just all movement felt like it was in slow motion, but the action animations felt like they were sped up really fast. I also found the combat a little too simplistic for this day and age, but despite this, I was able to enjoy it. The biggest issue with the combat is that it works very well when facing one or two enemies, but toward the end of the game it becomes highly frustrating because the combat was not designed to face that many enemies. So it turns into a pseudo-stealth game. It’s not bad by any means, but hopefully the sequel addresses this. The game was a little more linear than I was expecting. I had to mentally switch my mentality from survival horror to action horror to really begin to appreciate what they were trying to do here. I enjoyed my time with the game. It doesn’t really do anything new, and outside of the presentation it doesn’t really do anything new to the formula, but it did a good job reviving the space horror genre prior to the arrival of the Dead Space remake. It’s not a GOTY contender, it’s not anything you’ll remember and want to revisit years to come, but it’s a fun ride. All in all, it’s a solid new game series, and I think there is huge potential for growth with future games.

The game is lacking in the enemy variety though and it can feel like you are progressing through corridor to corridor. The story was nothing special. It’s your typical cliche zombie outbreak game and the final boss shows everything that was wrong with the game, but for what it’s worth it gets the job done. The Callisto Protocol is plagued with poor mechanics and repetitiveness that left me wishing the game was over halfway through.

Lets begin with what the game does right,

The story is what you expect from a game like this. Figure out what is going on and escape the ship. I am not really upset about the story being very bland and uninteresting because this is a survival horror game its supposed to have great atmosphere, good combat, and scares.

The Graphics are some of the very best I have ever seen. Character models look realistic, and environments are photo realistic as well. The game looks very good.

The Atmosphere is great, it makes you feel like you are there, Good biometric fog effects and the sound design is awesome.

I played the game on the PS5, I did notice some loss of frame rates, and some technical glitches that required me to restart my game. Nothing game breaking but they were there. They will probably be patched out within a month.

Now lets talk about the downfall of this game, the combat.

The Combat is too simple that it's boring. Melee fights feel like a turn based RPG. You dodge the enemies attacks and then you attack. You can't attack when they are attacking because you will take 100 times more damage then they will take. So basically you just take turns attacking. Melee fights with multiple enemies is even worse. You can only dodge one enemy at a time and you can't see all the enemies coming at you because you're auto focused onto one enemy so you pretty much just take cheap hits when there is nothing you can do about it.

A huge factor for the repetitiveness of the game is because the lack of enemy variety there is almost no attack patterns to remember since all the enemies are the same. there is no dread in turning the corner and seeing a new enemy and just not knowing how to fight it. There is also a huge lack of weapon variety. And what makes it worse is that most of the guns are useless so that results to you using melee attacks. The guns are also boring, Dead space you got cool mining equipment like the plasma cutter in this game you get a pea shooting pistol.

Also many of the environments feel the same. Dead space had interesting environments, in this game everything looks the same except for a few places like the habitat, and the outdoor sections (chapter 4 & 5). What also adds on to the repetitiveness is the missions. All of them are just go find a fuse and use it to open the door". Almost every chapter in the game has a go find a key card or fuse part in the chapter.

Do not expect much scares in this game either. There is not a lot of suspense and tension most of the scares come from cheap jump scares that you can tell are coming from a kilometer away. I was not scared once playing through this game.

The game isn't terrible it's just boring and repetitive. I was bored when I was halfway through the game. I shouldn't be bored in a short game that takes 7 hours to beat. I was expecting it to be like Dead space, I thought it would bring something new and exciting to the survival horror series but I guess my expectations were too high. I blame all their marketing for the backlash on this game. The marketing got everyone's expectations too high and they feel let down that the game is average at best. The developers should've spent more money on game play systems and less money on marketing. The game is worth a play when it drops to around $30.

The game is plagued with clunky controls, poor combat, lame weapons, bad HUD, boring characters, boring story, bad boss fights, poor level design and very little horror. While not a horrible game, it certainly isn’t a good game, either. It needs a serious overhaul. The pros are the graphics & atmosphere are fantastic but unfortunately that's about it. The story is thin & lame, the characters are forgettable, dull & boring & the combat is the worst. They encourage close combat to which is fine except & have implemented a dodge mechanic and opt for using the left analog stick & the player will move it left or right to avoid attacks, but which is not effective during intense combat with multiple enemies. The use of a button would have been more practical. Instead of using the D pad or a button to switch or to rotate through your weapon selection, you use the right D pad & then you can scroll through your weapon selection. Again, it's very clumsy & awkward & you can easily choose a weapon with no ammo by accident leaving you open for attacks. The reloading animation of a weapon is ridiculously slow, so if your hit by an enemy during that time you will not have done it. You have health injection gun that's used for low health but here again the animation is sooooo slow that you will not complete increasing your health if you're hit by an enemy. They start you off with only six slots for your inventory but no storage box for stashing extra items, so you're limited on item you can carry & unable to pick up extra due a full inventory. Also, a big negative is that the game is nowhere scary but rather creepier & jump scares becomes repetitive, predictable, & boring. Expand

As the game progresses you get used to the dodging and timing attacks, but the time it takes you to do a melee attack you’re being murdered from behind or by the side. And healing yourself mid fight? Forget about it. It takes your character that long to get a medic kit ready that even if your enemy is at the other end of the room, they’ll be right next to you before you even start the healing process. Janky combat mechanics lead to frustrating encounters when there’s more than two enemies on the screen. Don’t even get me started on the dodge mechanic. Wish I could get a refund.

Although, the second half of the game did feel like a drag, and very much so stunted any momentum the game had. Not much variety in terms of boss fights, like in dead space. It was very frustrating to face the same “boss” 4-5 times in the form of the two headed monster. And I did not find the game to be all that scary. In the beginning I had a couple jumps without the scare, but that was really it. All in all, this is a beautiful game, one that I was probably more excited for than anybody. Trying to come close, let alone surpass, one of the best survival horror games out there was going to be no simple task, especially considering the players' over-the-top expectations following the game's announcement. While breathtaking sceneries, a terrific cast, and an excellent atmosphere give Dead Space a run for its money, the game's unintuitive combat system and predictable story elevate the 2008 classic to seemingly unreachable heights, Moreover, the game's illusion of choice, lack of grandiose set-pieces, enemies variations and new game plus option almost make me wish I didn't preorder the game altogether. All things considered, I found the game both scary and somewhat enjoyable; let's just hope that all this criticism doesn't discourage this new studio from crafting another survival horror masterpiece. At first, I even liked the way the combat was progressing, but as I was getting evolved in the game I realized that the melee system and the fights against many monsters ended up making me forget that I was playing a survivor horror game. The experience I had was more "Batman Arkham" than Dead Space, which wasn't what I was looking for when I bought Callisto. Also, I thought there was a lack of potential for gravity glove, and despite You're being able to slice up your enemies, I found the fights very limited, always very similar and sometimes very frustrating. The melee combat is clunky and gets somewhat repetitive as you go through the game but it never felt too old. I was never dreading a fight and your available resources and skill will lead you to get pretty crafty at times to get through encounters. Visually the game is fantastic, has phenomenal atmosphere, and most animations are very smooth and satisfying. The story isn't really anything to write home about but it's fun and has a great cast of characters who all have great voice acting. To go with this, there's plenty of world building to be found such as the voice records that do a great job shedding some light into a very interesting world. To bring it all back together, I found this a very fun game that I was eager to play more of. It's far from perfect, especially the PC port which is still struggling to run smoothly, but a fantastic game nonetheless. I would genuinely recommend to anyone looking for a good survival horror game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Silent Hill had a very clunky control scheme when dealing with combat in their game however, this added to the tension and experience of fear with every encounter. This is what is considered a "GOOD" example of a combat system that accompanies the experience of the game.

The Callisto Protocol is the exact opposite in which the atrocious combat system ruins the rest of the games experience by forcing players to utilize a frustrating dodge and move mechanic almost as if I was playing some sort of boxing game in a supposedly "horror" game.

Each enemy encounter is a fight for your life and not in the sense of dread or fear that a horror game should impose on its player but rather it's a fight against the poorly designed melee combat system. After the first hour I found my self frustrated at every turn almost to the point of just turning off the game entirely but I had to endure.

The horror aspect of the game are generic and predictable jump scares utilizing the same tactics they used in Dead Space. The sound design is the only saving factor of creating a dreadful atmosphere with bumps and creaks to keep players on their toes. Other than that don't expect a thrilling story. I'd advise on buying this game when it's on sale for $20 or less...It's not worth the full price let alone a season pass.

I wanted to play the game, come back to my dweeb gamer social circles and tell everyone what a refreshing, ground-breaking innovative product this is within the sad sea of the gaming industry that it is today. But instead of it being a beautiful sailing ship in it, it turned out to be just another piece of floating garbage.

I'm not going to even get into the details, you can find them all out by reading other reviews. In short - it just does not play or feel good. You walk through corridors, maneuvering a broken melee combat system. Finished this one hallway? Good. Here's another one just like it. This time? More enemies. Did we design a combat system that makes it fun and engaging to encounter them? NOPE. Just keep trying your luck positioning yourself right while holding a left thumb stick at a certain direction at all times. Game design 101.

There's nothing interesting, thrilling, nor exciting that wants you to keep sinking your precious time into it. It's a generic journey that feels more like work than a fun experience. If I were you, I'd take my bets out and replace them on Dead Space Remake, because in 2022 the best game design seems to be the one from 14 f'ing years ago.

Adjusted my rating after the utterly boring and repetitive DLC trophies were released. I dunno if the goal of the developers was to make even their former fans hate the game in the end. Well, if that was their goal they might have succeeded.

Until….you've played 2/3 of the game. It seems as if the developers suddenly thought, let's make impossible fights regardless of the difficulty. It results in exposing all the game's flaws. Save points that are not planned well, always short of credits, ammo, health, the combat that falls short with more and stronger enemies and so on. The result is mainly irritation and a bitter taste of the game in general. It is a shame since it is mostely an adventure that is fun to go through.

In conclusion, it is a fun game with major flaws. Yet it is worth your time if you can get it with a discount.

    - Atmosphere - Hack and Slash
    - Graphics Cons:
    - Leveling system with credits
    - Combat is far from perfect - Difficulty end stages of the game are out of proportion - Level design is repetitive

    Thoughts-
I’ve been very critical of The Callisto Protocol in this review, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have fun with the game. It’s straightforward, brutal, and frequently fun, it looks absolutely stunning, and its atmospheric sci-fi setting is not without its merits, especially if you’re a fan of something like Dead Space. Even so, this isn’t the game that so many of us wanted it to be. It’s rarely scary in any real way, its design its too focused and dated, and its emphasis on melee combat brings its own cavalcade of problems, from clunky and frustrating encounters when faced with multiple enemies to the disappointing dilution of the horror aspect. It’s not a game without merits, but when viewed in the context of its potential and what it was billed as by its developer, it’s hard to label The Callisto Protocol as anything but a disappointment.

The game impressed with great graphics and sound effects, the enemy design is monotonous and the environment looks almost always the same in the entire game. This is not too bad for a playtime of only about 10 hours but 70 euros is the game of the quality and length definitely not worth it, but in the sale it can be recommended.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Callisto Protocol delivers exactly what it was marketed as, which wasn't much but I still had fun. I finished the game at just under 7 hours which is about the usual length other survival horror games take to run through and it delivers on fun combat, great atmosphere, and stunning visuals. The story is safe, but I found myself invested enough to want to see it through and find out what was happening at Black Iron. The characters and performances were great, although I would've liked a bit more of Sam Witwer's character as he feels underutilized here. My biggest "flaw" with the game would be that it is not scary, like at all. I would describe it as more of a thriller where the only attempts at trying to establish that fear factor are through expected jump scares and great sound design/atmosphere that works to build tension, but at a certain point you feel powerful enough with Jacob's arsenal that there's no real threat that you won't be able to overcome. I personally enjoyed that feeling though, being ready to conquer whatever was thrown at me next and survive. Overall, Callisto doesn't push the survival horror genre forward in any impactful way, but it's a good addition and I'm glad that it exists. I had a good time and was thoroughly entertained the whole way through. I hope the game does well despite the mixed reception as I very much enjoyed this game as a survival horror fan. Although a lack of content at launch did hurt its replay value and it was a hard sell given it's a 7 hour game being charged at $70.

UPDATE: Dropping my score from a 7 to a 6. The story expansion, which I've forgotten the name of, is the biggest slap on the face to fans of Callisto. Going through the main story just to end up a cripple and get blown up is one of the most unsatisfying conclusions to a video game I've ever experienced.

Almost all jump scares are predictable, things repeat and yet the atmosphere is nice - it never really catches you. Even a goofy game like Resident Evil 8 gave me more goose bumps!

But when you try most cases, Jacob just veers inexplicably toward the enemy and you get locked back in melee.

And if you get into a boss fight without full health, the injectors are useless and you are fcked. I had to reload auto saves because I was stuck with no amp or health cause you can’t do ANYTHING on the fly, you have to have 10 seconds free to use a health injector and you can’t reload once engaged with a boss that sticks to your tail like fcking white on rice.

I hardly ever screamed “come on for fck sake what is this” at elden ring bosses, they were massively difficult but still allowed the player agency. I always felt like it was my fault when I lost. NOT the case in boss battles here. Story is cool if anemic

    What is great:
    - Graphics (AMAZING)
    - Atmosphere (Great!)
    - Story (I really liked it!)

    What is wrong:
    - Everything seems scripted, this is not what was promised!
    - No replayability potential (scripted stuff + no unlocks + crawl/squeeze sections)
    - So many crawl/squeeze through sections. WHY?
    - Checkpoints in annoying places. Reload, squeeze through all those vents again. Please, no!
    - I don’t want to spoil anything, but at least one of major boss fights was super annoying…
    - Some important QoL stuff missing (for example, you need to stay in inventory to listen to the tapes that you have found)
    - Could be more scary in my opinion, however I do play most of the survival horror games so I’m hard to please here
    - Game could use more enemies variety
    - Not balanced well in terms of upgrades/combat

This is the best looking game that I’ve played on PS5 so far. The only other game that I was super impressed with, in terms of graphics, was Demon Souls remake, but this was already long time ago…

Game is a bit short (8-10h?), however expanding it without fixing other stuff could make the whole experience less fun, so maybe it is a good thing.

I’ve listed many downsides, however it is still a very good game. I’m still looking forward to a DLC.

Frame rates dropping in certain areas and it’s completely obvious. The voice acting was very good and I really liked the main characters just wish we had more back stories and more relationship building instead of just throwing them out there. The story was ok, there just wasn’t enough, it was too simple and your kinda looking for more. This game was definitely a build up for future games they just need to fix some gameplay issues. The universe, the characters and the enemy designs is spectacular and in my opinion is what saves this from becoming an average 3rd person shooter. That and the combat which is unique and quite fun - although not quite ‘’Dead Space fun’’.

It has annoyances though. Far too much crawling through vents (although the vent crawling animation exceeds any title out there), and too much shimmying through crevasses and tight spaces. Really spoils the pacing. Also the stealth areas are tiresome. With such good combat it seemed out of place. There’s a few moments of enemy vocals when there is in fact no enemies to be seen which was a bit of a cheap tactic. Mostly however, I didn’t feel as tense or as scared as I did with Dead Space 1 and 2 - which was where the bar was set for me.

Overall I would very much recommend the game but here’s hoping for a few improvements if there is ever room for a sequel on the horizon.

And the further you go through the story, this system gets a little boring, although it is made in principle in an original way. Yes, even the whole game can be completed, almost, without firearms, using only melee weapons. But still, someone may get bored with these dodges. Second: the plot. In fact, he is not so brilliant, this has already been seen somewhere, heard, read, etc. Again, as you can guess from the trailers, prison, scientists, research, etc. But you hardly notice this flare during the passage, but you just go further and try to get out of this damn planet! The combat seemed interesting and new at the start, but as time went by, I couldn't help but feel like it got stale, due to the fact that nearly all enemies had similar, predictable attack patterns. Also, probably my biggest disappointment was with the boss fights. Through the majority of the game, there are no bosses, or mini-bosses for that matter, to the point that I was convinced there would be none. The first boss you encounter is simply a bullet sponge with the same old attack style that you simply have to side-step and counter. There were more boss fights after this, but very little variety, and none were memorable in my opinion. I would not recommend someone buy this game until you can get the full game, with the season pass content included, for cheap. Expand

    - La historia es algo normal. Predecible y estándar, posiblemente no te sorprenda nada si estás acostumbrado a jugar survivals o consumir cine/videojuegos de temática espacial/zombis.

    Final Thoughts:

The Callisto Protocol is undoubtedly the spiritual successor to the Dead Space series, but it sadly won’t set the genre on fire in the same way. Solid if bland plots and characters are buoyed by an immersive atmosphere, and a brutally unforgiving focus on melee feels tactful and crunchy, making The Callisto Protocol a fresh IP and an incredibly visceral game (sorry).

    Review Update:

So, after multiple replays, several increasing difficulties, and various DLC (one of which kills any potential future for the property), I felt compelled to do something I’ve never done before: change my rating and update a review…
The Callisto Protocol has its potential, but, the more I play, the more frustrated I get. There are moments where just as I feel like I’m enjoying myself, the game reminds me that it doesn’t actually want me to play it. In fact, its biggest issue is just that, so much control is taken from the player. If you’re not shimmying through a tight space, you’re crawling through yet another vent; if the combat isn’t glitching, you’re forced into a ‘cinematic’ grab; and, until recently, if you weren’t doing any of the above, you were in an unskippable cutscene. Too much playtime consists of, well, very little actual playtime.
In my original review, I focused on how from the atmosphere, setting, and aesthetics The Callisto Protocol is undoubtedly the spiritual successor to Dead Space, but it’s almost as if the game realises this and tries to pivot violently the other way, leaving a confused and messy horror that tries too hard to force an experience only to, sadly, avoid one entirely.

Best part of this game is the visuals. Looks amazing, but the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. Combat just feels shallow. Story is ok didn't really hit with me. Actors were good they just didn't have the best material. For a new ip I was pretty excited but it never gave us something new or improved upon that Dead Space didn't already do. Apparently this cost a ton of money to make but I don't see where it went unless it cost all that money to make it look and sound great. Expand

This game isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty good. The combat is new and honestly very refreshing, and while difficult the first time you get introduced to it, it gets easier the more you practice. The story is serviceable, but it’s ultimately pretty cliche and generic. Actors do a wonderful job and are very believable in the way they approach and react to every situation. The story is serviceable, but it’s ultimately pretty cliche and generic. Actors do a wonderful job and are very believable in the way they approach and react to every situation. Performance wise, I got it in PS4, and while it’s not the best, it was alright. Upgrades feel like they actually have an effect on your weapons, and they’re expensive enough to the point where you have to be smart with your money, and I like that. Unfortunately, you can’t get every upgrade in one play through, and while that would usually be ok, the lack of a new game plus makes this really upsetting, and most likely wouldn’t warrant another play through for most people, although I’ve beaten it about 5 times. Being a horror game, I was hoping for it to be scary, but it unfortunately isn’t and the scares are very predictable, making this more of an action game with horror elements. All that in mind, I had a great time with it, and I think it’s worth a try if you would like to try it, just maybe wait for a price drop if you want. 7.5/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. climate of terror and setting of the scenarios are great, worthy of the Dead Space franchise. The weak point is due to melee combat, the dodging is very strange. Expand

Repetitive survival horror that feels like a life sentence, The Callisto Protocol is as bereft of life as the harsh conditions of the moon on which it’s set. [Issue#23, p.70]

Callisto Protocol makes some mistakes, but in general computing the good wins by far. It is true that it is somewhat angry to see that something with so much potential has not been fully squeezed, but what it offers is already much more than most. We trust that combat system that we have loved and its setting to make the game worthwhile and we would love to see a second installment.

A visually beautiful sci-fi experience which, surprisingly, doesn’t resort to simply cloning Dead Space. The difficulty and the fear factor both don’t reach the heights I’d expect, however. A shame! It could have been extraordinary.
