    I was hyped about this game but it did not live up to my expectations. It is definitely not worth full price I would say maybe for 30$ max. The gameplay is the biggest let down. Not recommended.

It isn't scary, while the games enemies are grotesque and deaths are gory, the atmosphere they create is more action ana has no suspence. But my real problem with it is the combat. It just isn't fun, they can say the timingThe Calisto Protocol is OK.     The Callisto Protocol simply takes advantage of Dead Space and other successful survival horror games to hype itself    Welcome to the state of AAA games. Releasing an unfinished product for 70/80$ with basic features like New Game+ and Hardcore mode aren't ready at launch, and other features like extra death animations and skins being locked behind a paywall and releasing months later.

    The Callisto Protocol simply takes advantage of Dead Space and other successful survival horror games to hype itself up.

    This game is, in my opinion, a bad uninspiring copy of Dead Space. And although it is marketed as a survival horror game, it barely has any elements to justify that.

    - Very linear hold W or forward design to finish the game. No actual exploration whatsoever.
    - None to very light survival horror elements that don't blend well with the game's pace nor combat; for instance, the game applies slow animations on healing and other actions, yet it throws bunch of enemies at you where the game simply becomes a brawler rather than a survival horror game. It feels that the game is struggling to identify itself as a survival horror game because it also wants to be like Doom. Another example: the stomp mechanic in Dead Space was used to preserve ammo to finish off enemies. Here in Callisto Protocol, they allow you to stomp enemies but award you ammo for it, completely nullifying the survival horror aspect of it.
    - The combat is fundamentally flawed.
    - Death animations are cool however they have no smooth transition. They feel awkward when they happen during combat, especially that you already take damage from enemies you can't look at or evade thanks to the awfully designed combat. You'll also take little damage even if you dodge (right or left won't matter). You also can't skip death animations, so if you keep dying due to the frustrating combat system, then you'll have to watch the long death animation every time. A complete mess.
    - Very cheap poorly paced jump scares and the game never stops repeating them.
    - No puzzles at all.
    - The game presents no significant new ideas throughout its linearity to refresh its pace.
    - Pretty uninteresting story.

    + Graphics and sound design.

    Verdict: wait for a sale if you like a brawler horror game, skip if you're into actual survival horror games.    … Expand

    All of the greatest horror games are flawed and this is no different. But man the love and dedication u can feel pulsing through this game is incredible. Here is to hopes of a sequel. Great job you guys. Thank god horror is back. Graphics tho flawed are some top notch stuff. Story meh idk forgettable i could say. Voice acting is legit. And performace is meh as well.     The game mechanics are good, the story is okay. The tension level is the same as the dead space series (1-2) my original score is 7 - 8, but even if it is not liked, I give the game 0 and 9 for unfair ethics.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So far excellent visuals on PS5, excellent sound design but that's about it. Combat is horrendous, blocking and dodging is an absolute joke. (spoiler alert) I have yet to get pass the room where you're powering something up and there's a big grinding machine and you have to fight hordes of enemies until the thing powers up.(end of spoiler alert) This is in the first quarter of the game. This section of the game really highlights how bad the combat really is. I really do not understand why the Dev team could not assign blocking and dodging to a button. You have to block or dodge by holding the left, right or back on your controller. If there's more than one enemy, forget it. If you want to use your GRP, try to block and then use your baton, the control scheme will not allow you to do this in a fluidly. I am very disappointed in this game. The control scheme is very poor for a game that relies on melee combat. Do not waste the energy or time. You have been officially forewarned.… Expand

Unos mapas un tanto extraños, una historia carente de carisma y personalidad, es muy genérica y aburrida, el equilibrio de dificultad está totalmente descompensado, da igual como lo pongas (fácil, medio o difícil) el juego se siente igual todo el rato, y es ciertamente complicado porque se limítala a poner enemigos más fuertes y repetir los patronesEste juego está mal diseñado y ya está. Cheap jump scares, corridor after corridor of samey enemies, terrible combat system - if you have more than one enemy it gets very frustrating. An interesting story can sometimes get you through a bad game, this doesn't have a story worth thinking about. Callisto really needed another year in development forA big disappointment.     This new sci-fi survival horror is really worth it. The main character Jacob is a very likeable guy, who happens to be in the situation of this whole story.

    Graphics are really 10/10 The combat is a hard, but if you understand well the tutorial and practice a little bit with some enemies and restarting the checkpoint you will really master this for the whole game.     Really enjoyed this game I always watch reviews and let that influence me to an extent but this time everyone I agree with normally I didn’t. This is a good example of you really do have to think for yourself because at the end of the day these YouTubers are complete morons most of the time and we all know games journalist are a complete joke.

PS5 works perfect without any issues make sure you playing in max fidelity graphic mode because if you switch to performance you will lose a lot of visual effects. Why I put 9 of 10 for me was frustration in combat (doggin) system I probably died 30 times in first real fight because not much devs put in explanation how fight systemAbsolutely next level of graphics and sound effects.     The Callisto Protocol on PS5. I am going to start off and say wow. This game is such a blast and I am so sad I already completed it. Before getting into it, I completed the game on Maximum Security and it took me roughly 10 hours.

    Pros: The graphics: this game and its environment was beautiful. I loved observing everything around me as I walked around. The scares: Although there    The Callisto Protocol on PS5. Before getting into it, I completed the game on Maximum Security and it took me roughly 10 hours.

    Pros:
    The graphics: this game and its environment was beautiful. I loved observing everything around me as I walked around.

    The scares: Although there aren't a large amount of jump scares that will actually get you, the ones that do are the most unexpected. The way the environment is set up and how tension is built is just such a great way to make you feel uneasy.

    The Sound: The sound design was some of the best I have heard in a long time for video games. Hearing your enemies bones break when you hit them, how the guns sounds, how your enemies sound in general, and the ambience was impeccible.

    The Characters: I liked the characters, for some reason I started to get attatched to them without knowing them very well and I felt for my own character when things weren't going his way.
    The Combat: I absolutely loved the combat. Did it get repetitive? Yes. It was extremely satisfying though, I only wish they made the dodge mechanic an actual button. I loved bashing things, shooting them, and stomping their dead corpses. I just think it takes time to master and I loved it.

    The Cons:

    The Story: The story is on the middle ground for me. I didn't totally hate it, but it also didn't have anything we've never seen in other survival horror games. (Suggestion: Really try to listen to all the audio logs, they add a lot to the immersion.)

    The Checkpoint system: There are auto saves in a lot of spots and there are also manual saves. Manual saves are useless because they just take you back to the autosaved checkpoint 90% of the time. If you upgrade something, manual save, and then go to that save, you have to re-upgrade your gear. It was very odd.

    The DLC block: Well, this has nothing to do with "death animation paywall", but I really really wanted to start a new game plus, but it is unfortunately coming with a free update that won't be coming out for a little while. Now that I have beat the game, there is nothing else to do until DLC drops and its kinda dissapointing.

    Overall:

    I enjoyed my time here with The Callisto Protocol. I could not give it a 10 due to the cons I listed, but with how many positives I had for this game, I had to give respect where respect is due. I loved it and I wanna play more and more of it. You really just need to sit in the dark, put on some headphones, and enjoy the wonderful, yet punishing, game that is The Callisto Protocol.

    - combat is way too slow, needs some rolling or dodging thats not "move alternate L3 to auto dodge" - Jacob needs a run toggle,. way too slow - Ferris needs to be "i haven't seen anything, i am just doing my job jailing you for violating landing protocols" - please have a reason for the backstory - Dani is way too shallow - Jacob    Super pretty visuals, runs flawless on a PS5, BUT

    I absolutely love this game. It's beautiful, scary, and engaging. It is a high-quality single-player and story-driven Sci-Fi horror. Such games are a rare species nowadays, and I hope there will be a sequel.

The control scheme is fatally broken - no quick turn and PAINFULLY slow reloads and weapon changes result in unfair, unavoidable deaths - particularly at the hands of the identical bosses who kill you with one hit. Furthermore - the uninteresting, almost nonexistent story line plays outThe most frustrating game I have ever played. I actually created a metacritic account to pan this game. I deleted it from my console out of frustration at the second boss encounter after reducing the difficulty to easy and still dying over and over again. I didn’t give it a zero because the visuals are truly stunning, they’re just impossible to appreciate with all of the other issues this game has. Yes, the game has some flaws but nothing that's worthy of the hate it's receiving. The visuals are amazing and although it's not scary, it definitely keeps you on your toes from beginning till end. Combat does take awhile to get used toIf you're into horror games, then this is the game for you. Too many people are trying to compare it to Dead Space, therfore giving the game bad reviews.     Don't know why the game is getting such hate. It's visually stunning, atmosphere is great and combat is fine (albiet a little repetitive). Not the most amazing game I've ever played but I didn't expect it to be. It's just a good old fashioned survival horror. Well worth a play.

    So, this game is good so far (around 2 hours in). It’s entertaining enough to keep me interested and I’ll be coming back to finish it. Combat is good, graphics are good, environments are good. Everyone is complaining that the story is missing -well, Story is a little missing but overall, similar to the original dead space experience, I don’t remember a huge story experience in dead spaceSo, this game is good so far (around 2 hours in).     Big fan of Dead Space so I thought this would end up being the spiritual successor and maybe a game to push the survival horror genre further. Boy, was I wrong. It’s just not fun to play. Janky combat mechanics lead to frustrating encounters when there’s more than two enemies on the screen. Don’t even get me started on the dodge mechanic. Wish I could get a refund.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is average at best. You can see that they were in a hurry to release it. The design of the environment itself is interesting, the soundtrack is great, but it all comes down to the image of a beautiful environment which is.... empty. The combat is unsatisfying, you don't feel the upgrades you unlock during the game at all. Using the gravity gauntlet is totally unintuitive, I fight two enemies at once, and the gauntlet targets a box from the corner of the room instead of the enemy.

    The game is full of bugs that spoil the immersion. In one stage we fight enemies who are blind, reacting only to sound. You can murder a nearby enemy with a knife, you can trample him, you can throw an explosive cylinder in the corner of the room - other enemies won't pay attention to anything. They only react to shooting and walking.

    The Polish translation in the game is one of the worst I've ever seen, it sounds like the person translating doesn't know what the game is about at all, there's also a mass of untranslated texts or those that were translated shamefully badly. In the English version they said "It's busted" (the elevator), in polish they've translated it as "They busted us".

    The dodging and blocking mechanics themselves are tragic, as we fight one opponent it is acceptable. But when fighting several opponents - you don't know what's going on.

    The controls are tragic, selecting weapons/healing/energy replenishment requires a hell of a lot of clicking.

    Information about the world we collect is very perfunctory, a few sentences at most. We have to play the audiobooks ourselves in the menu, why don't they automatically turn on when we pick up like in dead space? I don't want to go into that menu, click, search, just to hear 3-4 sentences.

    On Playstation5 I had 4 situations when the game turned off by itself. Numerous FPS drops. The whole game took me only 8 hours.

    For me, the Callisto Protocol is the biggest disappointment of this year. I really wanted to love this game, but I just can't. The gameplay is monotonous and boring, the combat system frustrating, the story clichéd and flat. The only thing that is somewhat worthwhile is the graphics and atmosphere. If you insist on buying it, wait for a deep sale.

    Horrible gamedesign, horrible safepoints, crouching under pipes all the time, the fight system is good but gets repatetive very fast, not enought enemy variants etc . etc. Its not worth 70€.

    I had an absolute blast playing this game! The combat system can be a little quirky, but it is fun once you get the hang of it. The save system can put you in a tough spot if you make it to a boss with low health. If you die, you respawn with the same amount of health and you either have to beat it with low health or reload a checkpoint that is further back and lose a bit of progress.I had an absolute blast playing this game!     Totally loved the game. Played on PS5 and quality of game is amazing. The Gameplay mechanics are very different to other games. For some people different can be bad and for some it can be good. For me it's very good. Graphics and animations are top notch. Story is good. Game longevity is good for a horror/survival game.

    The environments, though absolutely stunning, don't feel quite as purposeful or unique as in dead space, at points I had to wonder "Why on earth would they have these big corridors full of endless pipes, what on earth are these for?". This issue kinda extends to the enemy types too, they're pretty limited and you don't have those moments where a giant tentacle is dragging you down an airvent.

    A lot of people complain about the difficulty, and when I started out I was wondering if I could actually complete this game, but combat against standard enemies does get easier. With that said some of the boss encounters are frustrating as hell and I found myself dying just because I tried to dodge out of the way and got stuck in a corner. I don't mind a challenge, but playing the same arena a dozen or more times just because you walked into an unassuming area without enough ammo or health is pretty frustrating.

    Presentation here is a 10, I played in performance mode because i'm not a savage, the audio is great (Though I hit a few really strange issues through my headphones where there seemed to be just too much going on and it got fuzzy).

    The story is good, I just for some reason wasn't on the edge of my seat most of the time, ultimately the twist is painfully predictable from the get go.

    I enjoyed it, I'm not paying such a huge amount for the season pass unless that extra content turns out to be more than a cash grab.    … Expand

    Playing on Ps5 and have experienced no issues with frame rate drops, or stuttering. A visually beautiful game and an intense, suspenseful atmosphere. I really don’t trust reviewers anymore. I feel some of the reviewers just don’t like the genre or any change in fighting mechanics. I applaud the devs for giving us a different spin on the genre.     Callisto Protocol is a breath of fresh air in a world full of games that hold your hand. It a lot of fun and can be difficult at times. But the death animations make it a joy to start back over from a check point. I play a lot of survival horror games and for any fan of that genre, I think you will enjoy this game. The dodge mechanic didn’t take long for me to figure out. If you’re in aCallisto Protocol is a breath of fresh air in a world full of games that hold your hand. If you’re in a narrow space then you block. If you’re in an open area then you can dodge side to side. This game is similar to the Evil Within where it’s not for everyone. But it’s definitely for the survival horror loyalists. Maybe a sequel will have puzzles and a companion character that guides you along the way.… Expand

    Loving the game! Finally we get another taste of Glen Schofield's Imagination. It's been too long since we have gotten a sci Fi horror survival game. I hope we get a Calisto Protocol 2 in the future and this game becomes a franchise

    Amazing game, just the right length. No padding, well structured and executed.
    True survival horror, unlike some games where regular enemies become a joke half way through after you upgrade your equipment and you learn their quirks. Here thats not the case. They are always a threat, and force you to play cautiously. And they are always throwing enemies at you in creative unpredictable    Amazing game, just the right length. Barely any encounters felt the same. So many intense moments, great atmosphere throughout, awesome weapons to play around with, a good story and characters, challenging gameplay that holds no punches. Nor does it hold your hand with lame on screen indicators and slow down prompts. No coddling. They 100% outdid Deadspace here. Best horror game I played since Resident Evil 2 remake.    … Expand

    Callisto Protocol makes some mistakes, but in general computing the good wins by far. It is true that it is somewhat angry to see that something with so much potential has not been fully squeezed, but what it offers is already much more than most. We trust that combat system that we have loved and its setting to make the game worthwhile and we would love to see a second installment.

    A visually beautiful sci-fi experience which, surprisingly, doesn’t resort to simply cloning Dead Space. The difficulty and the fear factor both don’t reach the heights I’d expect, however. A shame! It could have been extraordinary.
