    Callisto has been review bombed by petty entitled Xboxers and PC players. Xboxers expect a brand new game to be 15 dollars, otherwise they hate it. I played this game, and as a die hard Dead Space fan I absolutely loved it. Literally every single complaint about the actual game, was completely unwarranted. I played it on my PS5 and I had 1 bug the entire game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely loved it. Graphics are one of the rare games out on ps5 worthy of the next gen label.
    Combined with the sound it creates a great atmosphere. Levels are mostly linear but I did not mind.
    Story was a bit thin/generic but sets up nice for sequels.
    I would have prefered some more variations in the enemy types. And the combat needs some tweaking to better deal with multiple enemies.

    I don't normally post reviews but the witch hunt for this game is unbelievable its honestly my best game of 2022 it's mind boggling the reviews it's been getting!!!
    Could it of done with some more time in the oven? probably yes! but it's such a great new franchise I really hope we get a sequel. Thanks to Glen and the team at striking distance it's like they made this game for me.

    I haven't finished the game, and experienced it on release with no patch. Initially it was a disaster even on ps5. Sounds missing, crashes every 5 minutes. It was unplayable. The game now after patch 1.006 is spot on. This is my genre of game so I am loving it. If you are into horror games you have to give it a shot.even if you wait for a sale I'd say it's worth it now at full price.

    Very enjoyable game despite taking me 7 hours to complete. Combat was different, but felt meaty and the dodge mechanic is interesting but I think maybe a dedicated dodge button and slightly zoomed out camera would be better. Graphics and sound are some of the best I’ve seen this generation and the story and supporting cast are good enough and kept me wanting more. Will definitely be doingVery enjoyable game despite taking me 7 hours to complete.     I’ve been very critical of The Callisto Protocol in this review, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have fun with the game. It’s straightforward, brutal, and frequently fun, it looks absolutely stunning, and its atmospheric sci-fi setting is not without its merits, especially if you’re a fan of something like Dead Space. Even so, this isn’t the game that so many of us wanted it to be. It’s rarely scary in any real way, its design its too focused and dated, and its emphasis on melee combat brings its own cavalcade of problems, from clunky and frustrating encounters when faced with multiple enemies to the disappointing dilution of the horror aspect. It’s not a game without merits, but when viewed in the context of its potential and what it was billed as by its developer, it’s hard to label The Callisto Protocol as anything but a disappointment.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an awful game. Do yourself a favour and wait for Dead Space Remake to drop next month. My friend asked me what was wrong with it and I just spilled every enraged thought I had about the game, it was too painful to write it out again so please see below my thoughts on this garbage fire. The creator of this game has tried so hard to peddle this **** so hard to convince people it’s a scary game, that the gore will horrify you. It’s weak, start to finish, it’s **** weak. “Yeah… where to start bud… for starters, never played a horror game with absolutely no horror in it, other than the horrific fact that I wasted money on it. Seriously, not once was there even tension. They have these little bugs that jump out at you every so often when you open a chest, never once scared me, just **** me off because no matter how quickly you hammer triangle it will still take away health, they tend to be in chests that have 35 health, so you end up just opening a chest to replace the health that **** just sucked away. They have the poor man’s version of ‘clickers’ yet they’re so much ****ter than clickers that they offer 0 challenge, they just slow the whole game down and seem to have been added as a veiled attempt at extending the play time of the game. The combat system is genuinely **** awful. Like absolutely **** awful. The game is basically a dodge simulator. So it’s mainly a close combat game, where you use that pole thing to beat enemies but you basically have to dodge them one to three times before a window opens for you to hit them three times, rinse and repeat. The thing is, if you have more than one enemy around you, as soon as the canned animation of you killing the one guy ends, the next enemy sucker punches you, this happens because the camera is so zoomed in over your shoulder and **** slow that you can’t even see the **** coming, so don’t have time to dodge. Add to that, the fact that it introduces this mechanic where enemies can mutate to become stronger when you start to damage them. The idea is that you shoot these tentacles that sprout before it has a chance to transform, the problem is, due to the really **** **** camera, you very, very rarely get the chance to shoot the tentacles, you pretty much only get to when they’re the only enemy you’re fighting, this means that without fail, most enemies mutate which is just **** painful because it just doubles the length of each fight, doesn’t make it harder, just doubles the length of it. They use the same boss fight three times, this is again, just dodge, dodge shoot, shoot, before a window to melee attack it, problem is, reloading or changing weapon is so **** cumbersome that sometimes you get tagged by this **** and guess what… it’s one hit kill. At one point it then adds other enemies as well as this guy so trying to do it all while they can just one hit kill you. I completed the game, took me about 8 hours, yet the game just felt like it was dragging. The same boss fight three times is lazy. The same four enemy types. The same, eye rolling bugs jumping out at you. The same squeezing through tight gaps to load the next section. The ending is just a sequel bait. The death animations are also **** boring, you can’t skip them, they’re drawn out and I didn’t find them horrific as the creator of the game thought they were. The only good thing I can say is it’s a gorgeous game and the acting is really **** good. It’s awful.”… Expand

    Ihad a good time with the game, but the only downfall was the horribly designed boss fights and slow controls. I know they tried to make the game feel more horror that way, but I think they went too far with that idea.

    First thing I noticed was the quality of the characters and how detailed their facial expressions were. Good acting and you want to know more about the main character and what's going on. The atmosphere is great. Its dark, gritty and sometimes very claustrophobic. The mechanism with the dodging is kinda nice. It's brutal and bloody. It gets more and more fun the more weapons you find.     one of the best immersive gore game i have played, the fighting mechanic is challenging and needs learning, understanding , using the environmental elements, its strategic and the game is a masterpiece, the visual are mind blowing.

    I'm 16 hours in, I've done a lot in the game, explored everywhere, killed every bloody thing that tries to get in my way, and it has been a stellar experience, from the graphics, to the fight scenes, the melee combat, the guns. Yes there are some hard areas where you'll have to replay it several times to get through, but the checkpoint system works really well here, you'll never be frustrated when you die and respawn.

    I've played dead space a couple months ago in fact, but not completed it, whether this game is a great dead space sim I'm not sure, but what I am sure is that it's a great game, an incredibly fun experience, and I've enjoyed every second of it so far, exploration, combat and story and all. Don't believe the bad reviews, they either haven't taken the time to enjoy this game or they're just salty it's not dead space part 4    … Expand

It has a story that does a decent job moving the game along, everyone will enjoy it on different levels , i enjoyed it more than enough. The gameplay and mechanics are solid ,and so are the animations , top of the line cast. To go with this, there's plenty of world building to be found such as the voice records that do a great job shedding some light into a very interesting world. To bring it all back together, I found this a very fun game that I was eager to play more of. It's far from perfect, especially the PC port which is still struggling to run smoothly, but a fantastic game nonetheless. Some may say it’s a Dead Space clone (I don’t think they argument is valid since it’s one of the original creators) and some may say it’s not enough like Dead Space. The atmosphere,sound design and overall production value is there. It screams AAA. The game was also a looker. Looked incredible. I did like the combat. The moment to moment gameplay was very visceral and kept you on edge the entire time. The voice acting was also too notch and the performance capture was spot on. The game is lacking in the enemy variety though and it can feel like you are progressing through corridor to corridor. The story was nothing special. It’s your typical cliche zombie outbreak game and the final boss shows everything that was wrong with the game, but for what it’s worth it gets the job done. The game has all that you want from a Dead Space like game, but there is something there to keep it from reaching greatness. The game’s length is roughly 8HRS long, which is the sweet spot for what this game was. Overall a good time for Dead Space fans.… Expand

    Comprei em Pré Venda, não dei Ouvidos ao Mímimi que estava tendo por conta de um mal entendido com a DLC, A Primeira Vista Você fica impressionado c o quão lindo Tecnicamente esse jogo é. E como as Mecânicas dele, Embora Simples Funcionam tão Bem. Tudo muito bem feito até os Mínimos Cuidados, e o Áudio é um Show a Parte, Mantém a Tensão a Todo Instante.

    Sadly, the game Starting to get me very angry at the 3/4 of the game. Enemies are EXTREMELY tough to get rid of .Even in the beginning U need i don’t know how many hits to get rid of an enemy. Plus, they give you 4-5 other enemies to fight with , while being in a tight ass room without possibility of escape / hide . Added to this, the character CAN’T MOVE . he is very slow and heavy…Sadly, the game Starting to get me very angry at the 3/4 of the game.     Great sci-fi horror experience! I really enjoyed it and recommend it for anyone who enjoys this genre of game. Reminded me a bit of Resident Evil 2 Remake, but without all the backtracking and with a final boss you can actually fight and beat (with a bit more space to maneuver too). Remember to use a mix of all weapons and also heal whenever in the yellow and there is a moment to breath.

Main zombie type, security guard in armour, fat brawler, acid spitter, giant spider things, crawling exploders, little wormies, tentacle skull pods, two headed guy... & that's what I've seen so far by chapter 5/8. Combat is really fun & although it could be played as a straight up brawler, has a lot of guns that you can acquire plenty of ammo for. Gun changing isn't terrible, you just have to back up or run while doing it. Satisfying kills. Wonderful atmosphere. Plenty of tense moments, & a story that is extremely fun & moving at certain points. It is far better than the resident evil remakes or village. It could have been longer, but leaving me wanting more is never a bad thing. I far prefer that to a game that overstays its welcome. I say anyone who likes survival horror owes it to themselves to play it. Do not believe what you hear.… Expand

    I dont sign EULA's for single player games. this one is a bit more aggressive than others anyway, why would they want to monitor my battery life? seems like a drag to my internet, I dont need. A single player game i wasnt going to stream, should have the option to disagree and still play the game. Boycott

    The absolute biggest issue with the game is the god awful clunky combat. I was down for everything else, but this is the most awful combat I have ever played. In the last few hours of the game you start to pray that you don’t come into an encounter. Because you don’t wanna use all your ammo because the enemies are sponges so you do the melee attack mixed with a shot hear and there, but bcThe absolute biggest issue with the game is the god awful clunky combat.     BACK TO THE STOMPING GROUNDS!!! This brought back my Dead Space PTSD, and I've been smiling through-out the whole game. The graphics are jaw dropping on ps5. The scenery feels like you're really moving along an industrial factory, full of eerie moments. The controls feel great.

    Makes me sick how bandwagon people are being. Probably because they didn't figure out the mechanics and need a game to hold their hand and reassure them that they're a champ.
    This game makes you feel a certain kind of way and it's incredible at it.
    Don't sleep on this one just because journalists ran a coordinated smear campaign. They did so they could shill for the big 3 and further degenerate gaming into nothing but factory filth. Guess they have to make sure real games don't get made anymore.

    The biggest complaint I keep hearing is that you lock on to the enemy that's attacking you, so it doesn't work for multiple enemies or... something. I gotta tell you that this game gives you all the tools you need. If a second character gets too close, you will still dodge it because it instantly locks to the enemy attacking. What you need to do is use the telekinesis glove to throw extra enemies out of the way if you get overwhelmed. SIMPLE AS THAT. Just pay attention to the environment and use everything you can to dominate enemies, that's what hazards and explosion tanks are there for. Just use them. Figuring out how to not get overwhelmed and managing enemies is THE WHOLE POINT, while being as ruthless and efficient as possible. This game is basically perfect at everything it attempts. I can't believe all this bad press it's getting from people who PLAY VIDEO GAMES FOR A LIVING, so you would think they wouldn't suck.

    Another thing is "it's just linear OMG I can't endlessly explore idiot areas aimlessly wahhh" Go play Ubisoft you morons. Get some micro trans checklists you're such a glutton for. Because that's exactly what you'll get when you only give excellent scores to cookie cutter games. You get what you deserve you fools. This game is a series of expertly crafted and paced GAUNTLETS, it always is throwing a new challenge at you each and every time and highlights the actual depth and game design prowess on clear display.

    Oh and too many vents... Well would you prefer broke asses with old systems and hardware couldn't play it? You need that to hide loading screens, besides this is how the previous games were and part of the DNA. They paced it out extremely well and I'd argue you wouldn't get near the same "Dead Space feeling" without them. It's all about vibe. What's funny is that this is a cross platform game and STILL has the best graphics I've ever seen in a game. Try and tell me it doesn't look like a literal movie from start to finish!

    While this game is inferior in almost every way to the original Dead Space, I still had an enjoyable time throughout. Atmosphere, graphics are good and the combat at times can be intense, although it doesn't work too well against multiple enemies, and story is very average. While I certainly liked the game, I can understand the things going against it. Probably best to wait for a sale.

At first, I even liked the way the combat was progressing, but as I was getting evolved in the game I realized that the melee system and the fights against many monsters ended up making me forget that I was playing a survivor horror game. The experience I had was more "Batman Arkham" than Dead Space, which wasn't what I was looking for when I bought Callisto. Also, I thought there was a lack of potential for gravity glove, and despite You're being able to slice up your enemies, I found the fights very limited, always very similar and sometimes very frustrating.     A very hard, frustrating experience on your first playthrough. On my second playthrough it was much easier knowing how to tackle each situation and what to upgrade. I'm not forgiving the games issues mind but a solid experience on my second play through. 5/10 for my first time through, 7/10 for my second. Pick up at a discount if you love scifi action/horror games.

    Another excellent entry by the people behind Dead Space. Tough, brutal and wonderfully dark in every sense. There are some technical issues that hopefully get patched in the future, but this still remains an excellent game so far.

I had to reload auto saves because I was stuck with no amp or health cause you can’t do ANYTHING on the fly, you have to have 10 seconds free to use a health injector and you can’t reload once engaged with a boss that sticks to your tail like fcking white on rice.

    I hardly ever screamed “come on for fck sake what is this” at elden ring bosses, they were massively difficult but still allowed the player agency. I always felt like it was my fault when I lost. NOT the case in boss battles here. Story is cool if anemic

    The first hours are very disappointing (too hard, melee focused, frustrating and linear) but progressively you learn the combat flow and upgrade your gear and weapons and everything makes click. At some point you start enjoying it and then it becomes the game you were waiting for. It's not Dead Space and for sure is worse than that, but it's the best horror game of this year.

    story, it's just treading same ground as other games, nothing noteworthy and after completing it doesn't make me want to replay - I'll most likely forget the game - however... it does have some huge potential, so if they can really get a good writer on board, I genuinely think they have a great IP here.

    Overall, it's a mixed bag - I love the little details in the game like the upgrade system and the world building, but the story and gameplay ruins it for me.

    Theres no exploration at all, its all just one loooooooong route you have to follow through the game, with next to no other options than to follow the main route.
    The game has 3 types of guns, 2 of them have 2 variations, but ultimately the same gun, the upgrades for these guns are cheap and lazy, more ammo, less sway and more damage - theres nothing interesting about it, and its copy pasted across all 3 weapon types.
    You get armor a few chapters in, and thats it - it never gets upgraded or changed in any way.
    The graphics, sound and locations are great and ultimately its a damn shame that the rest of the game comes off so lazy and rushed.    … Expand

As the game progresses you get used to the dodging and timing attacks, but the time it takes you to do a melee attack you’re being murdered from behind or by the side. And healing yourself mid fight? Forget about it. It takes your character that long to get a medic kit ready that even if your enemy is at the other end of the room, they’ll be right next to you before you even start the healing process. Everything else about the game is great but the awful combat is what really lets it down.… Expand

    The Callisto Protocol is the exact opposite in which the atrocious combat system ruins the rest of the games experience by forcing players to utilize a frustrating dodge and move mechanic almost as if I was playing some sort of boxing game in a supposedly "horror" game.

    Each enemy encounter is a fight for your life and not in the sense of dread or fear that a horror game should impose on its player but rather it's a fight against the poorly designed melee combat system. After the first hour I found my self frustrated at every turn almost to the point of just turning off the game entirely but I had to endure.

    The horror aspect of the game are generic and predictable jump scares utilizing the same tactics they used in Dead Space. The sound design is the only saving factor of creating a dreadful atmosphere with bumps and creaks to keep players on their toes. Other than that don't expect a thrilling story.     I love this game. The only reason I lowered my score from a 10 to an 8 is because it’s not as scary as I thought it would be. But I highly recommend everyone try this game it is so immersive and the sound design is unmatched.

    I absolutely love it the graphics are top notch,the gore reminds me of god of war back when the devs weren’t afraid of gore the combat is absolutely a blast we all thought we were getting a pure dead space copy but instead got something more

    Short game for 70$, shallow story writing, bad characters, they announced that the game gone gold like two months ago and still have bad optimization, laggy.
    The worst game I bought this year, it's total deserves the low Metacritic Score and I hope the director of this game resignes

    Game is amazing, atmosphere, combat, animations, graphics everything is so gorgeous. The only thing that lacks are some enemy variety and I’m pretty sure they’ll add em in the sequel. Reviews sites hated the game with 0 reasons, probably nobody payed em like most publishers do.

    Worst trash I've played for a long time. **** performance (even after patch) on a RTX 4090. Gameplay is a joke with the worst combat system to date. You're forced to melee and even the most basic enemies takes 5+ hits to kill while you die in 4 hits. Good luck when you face 4 enemies at the same time. The game is not hard, just pure broken and unfair. Do yourself a favor and stay away...

The first half of the game was intense, and had me very involved. I did enjoy the combat mechanics, especially after upgrading weapons while using a dual sense controller. In the beginning I had a couple jumps without the scare, but that was really it. All in all, this is a beautiful game, one that I was probably more excited for than anybody.     The combat system is actually pretty fun once you get used to it, but it's interesting choice and oddly reminds me of the system in Silent Hill Homecoming. It's not as weirdly frustrating as the system in that game, but there's similarities. The biggest gripe I have is that there's no real mechanics/options given to the player for dealing with enemies coming in from all directions. This can lead to some frustrating encounters in the latter half of the game when enemies are thrown at you in waves. This shift in the game really means there should have at least been a quick turn around mechanic of some kind. There are a few boss fights in the latter half of the game that are especially frustrating for this reason where you are asked to pinpoint smaller enemies with guns and engage the boss in melee combat at the same time. Your character's movement speed isn't fast enough to deal with this effectively. It can be done but it isn't exactly fun. Then there's the weapon selection system. I found myself fumbling through the system trying to select a gun that actually has ammo only for it to cancel back to the gun without ammo. This, I believe, is because the gun changes all require an animation that shows Jacob switch out the gun on the same 'mount.' It becomes this game where you're dodging incoming enemy attacks while you're fumbling through the weapon selection menu trying to find out why you keep pulling out guns, or the same gun, without any ammo. The weapon quick selection mechanic seemed weirdly worthless to me when the animations take so long you kinda just end up with a gun in hand that might not be appropriate for the combat situation you're in.

    These moments kind of kill the thrills of what is otherwise a really good and great looking game. All of that said, I still really enjoyed The Callisto Protocol andI think there's a lot going on here that could turn into a really good franchise if some of these gripes don't tank it before it gets off the ground.    … Expand

Game is built around systems, so if you play it again, it will be different (loot, death etc...) The game needs Game+ and you have to replay some parts because it can be unforgiven. Or replayed the old ones. First off. This game isn’t scary. Relies too heavily on Jump scares. I’f you can call them that. The combat system. Totally broken. No quick turn. Sprint is a meandering jog. Reloading takes forever. Switching weapons in mid combat does an animation that takes seconds to complete and can be interrupted. So if you run out of ammo. You’re done. Especially when surrounded by multiple enemies. And healing with an injector. Takes 5 seconds to complete. Completely useless in combat. Also releasing so slow it’s borderline idiotic. That final boss fight was the most unenjoyable broken fight of recent memory. If you have low health for the second phase. You’re done. You can try running around the exploding enemies and projectiles but he runs like an invalid. It’s ridiculous. And the story is rip off sci fi **** Worst money I have spent on a game In a long time.     The game ships broken. It's a single player game, but needs a day one patch to fix game breaking bugs. I can't even download the patch from someone with decent internet and transfer it to a usb stick, I would have to carry my whole damn console to someone with internet. Ridiculous!

    Ignore the reviews if you plan on playing this on PS5. Game runs smooth, has great ray-tracing, 4k res, stable 60fps, and it has great reflections too........ unlike the Xbox Series S (Potato) which is one of the worst consoles ever made. Can't even run 40fps at 1080p

    It's honestly kinda baffling to me why they focused so much on the melee combat when the shooting is really good when you get to do it

    The last parts of the game really encourage shooting since you can't really use melee due to the insane amount of combat encounters and the amount of enemies swarming you, i really have no idea why they didn't just encourage shooting from the start, the stun baton really should've been a secondary weapon and not a focus, maybe use it for crowd control, unleashing electric discharge if enemies get to close, stunning them, crowd control with a large melee swing etc

    This game really has potential, it's just needs more "game" It's really strange that with a game with solid shooting mechanics they instead let you walk around for upwards of 15 minutes without doing any combat whatsoever

    It's a 8/10 for me, solid but kinda disappointing, i really hope they fix these things for the sequel or dlc or whatever, i see potential in it.    … Expand

    Callisto Protocol makes some mistakes, but in general computing the good wins by far. It is true that it is somewhat angry to see that something with so much potential has not been fully squeezed, but what it offers is already much more than most. We trust that combat system that we have loved and its setting to make the game worthwhile and we would love to see a second installment.

    A visually beautiful sci-fi experience which, surprisingly, doesn’t resort to simply cloning Dead Space. The difficulty and the fear factor both don’t reach the heights I’d expect, however. A shame! It could have been extraordinary.
