This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Perfecto, excelente, hermoso, bien hecho.

Big islands that's is made for this new open-zone/open world setting, gives you the Adventure-esque feeling, like freeroaming the world, finding collectibles, go to the action stages (cyberspace stages) and so on. The story is engaging, making a good balance between a serious one and in occasions with some good old jokes, for example, some lines between Sonic and Knuckles. Entering to a cyberspace stage and immediately you feel and get the vibes to the old good boost era, like those from Unleashed or Generations. Still, i would have themes based on the island rather than have them based on the classical zones like Green Hill, Chemical Plant or Sky Sanctuary. Unfortunately, one thing I'm about to give thumbs down is the controls. It's stills feels heavy, especially when sonic is boosting. I wish it was more smoothly like the open-zone. The music for the cyberspace stages is catchy and speaking of music, wow, I can't believe that we've got into the "Metal Gear Rising" mode with those Titans boss fights. Very metal and heavy, a love letter to fans of the metalcore/post-hardcore.

Game is no perfect, although there's definitely room for improvement like rid out of those pop-ins, and make it better the next time. Either way, it was a very long time I haven't experienced a sonic game like this before hand. And I'll be waiting what's next to come in this new era of Sonic.

The game was a really good time! It can be rough around the edges in a few areas, But it does so many things right! Down to the Boss fights, Exploration, Combat, Ect. If it can be this enjoyable at this stage, then it makes me extremely exited for the next title!

I still respect what they have done with this game I had fun for the first time since generations, the story/character interactions is something that I missed in previous entries, music goes hard in the open world, in cyberspace and the bosses and the combat in the open world and especially against the bosses is fun but a bit limiting in my opinion. +Crazy boss fights that come straight out of an anime. +So much to explore and collect!
+ Intense speed and action! + Beautiful overworld music like something straight out of Nier Automata or a Square Enix ost. + Laid back mini fishing games in each area to tone down after all the high intensity speed and action. I’m personally really loving it, the last 2 islands did feel kinda rushed though and 2D sections can be wonky but I’m glad those are short. There are a rare few 3d platform sections and I think 3d sonic should stay like this with those sections thrown in here and there to keep players engaged longer. Also I feel the last two islands should have had their own theme like the first 3. I think the last island while smaller then the first three, is big enough and all the islands should have been this big but with more islands to explore too with different themes like a snowy mountains, seaside etc.

Overall lovely game with a few quality of life changes needed that I feel would make it an outstanding game but that doesn’t mean it’s average, this game is brilliant. Team Sonic finally made a 3D Sonic worth playing (yes it’s better then Generations & Colours)! I personally loved it and at the end of the day, that’s all that should matter whenever you game.

However it needs improvement mostly with the combat system which I feel is far too easy for its own good, I like the fact it's fast paced and doesn't slow down the gameplay but I wish it required a bit more challange. Some of the pop in can get pretty bad in the game to the point it just breaks all immersion. Only reason I don't mind it is due to how much it is playing as Sonic as you are going too fast to care about the pop in. The game could be a solid 10 for me but the lack of polish and reuse of level themes really brings down the game.

The story was surprisingly good, thankfully it's not garbage or mediocre writing like what we got in the recent games and I think a true sonic fan would love the story and the lore introduced in this game. Sonic frontiers feels like something Sega themselves care about and I can't wait to see a sequel.

It's not the best sonic game but it is one of the best, it's a step in the right direction for the franchise if you ask me. And I hope Sega and Sonic team continue to evolve and continue to use this new open zone formate for future games. Sonic frontiers is a 9/10 for me but it could be better. This is some of the most fun you'll have in a sonic game and it deserves the praise

It's a good proof of concept for an open-world Sonic game, but it falls short in some key areas. If nothing else Sonic controls wonderfully in the overworld, which is what made me finish the game despite its flaws.

My biggest issue would have to be the actual content in the open zones. Much of your time playing Sonic Frontiers will be spent locating keys, gears, and memory tokens. These collectibles are found by fighting enemies, completing cyberspace levels, and going through short obstacle courses in the overworld. While this sounds like a fun gameplay loop I found each of these elements lacking.

The obstacle courses are scattered everywhere throughout the islands. Each one is a quick 20 to 30-second challenge that rewards the player with a memory token or vault key. Given how fun it is to control Sonic I figured these would be my favorite parts of the game, but they ended up being my least favorite. The vast majority of these sections tend to require very little player input. There is an abundance of springs, dash pads, and grind rails that require little control from the player and guide them to the end of the challenge. Most of the player input involves holding forward and using the homing attack on a string of three balloons. It's disappointing how little platforming actually needs to be done (in the open zones) considering Sonic's smooth controls.

Fighting enemies was also disappointing since it was hyped up in many of the game's trailers, but in the end, most enemies can be defeated by mashing the attack button. When mashing doesn't work the solution is usually to use Sonic's new Cyloop ability. Like the combat, the Cyloop was hyped up in marketing to be more impressive than it actually is. For both puzzles and combat, the Cyloop involves running in a single circle around an enemy or object and that's about it for the majority of the game. Besides the Cyloop, you can also use other special attacks by pressing one of the other face buttons during your button mashing. These look cool and flashy, but I quickly realized that most of the special moves were effectively short cutscenes that did massive damage for little effort. As far as I'm aware, Sonic has invincibility during these animations, so using them is usually more efficient than dodging or parrying. Boss enemies do offer short puzzles before you can button mash, so those were typically the most engaging. The Sumo enemies in particular were great. The true bosses of each island were also cool for the spectacle alone, but the combat was mostly more button-mashing.

The cyberspace levels were consistently my favorite part of the game. Though I'm sick of seeing Green Hill and Chemical plant the corrupted aesthetic made them visually interesting, unlike the dull overworld that lacks a distinct visual identity. The same sentiment applies to the music which was pretty good. These levels are where you can actually put Sonic's movement potential to use. You can explore the level for Red Rings or alternative paths and push yourself to the limit trying to get faster and faster as you master the stage. My only real complaints are the reused stage themes (there are only four themes btw) and the short length of each stage.

Overall Sonic Frontiers is okay, but it kinda feels like a tech demo at times meant to show how cool it would be to run fast in a grassy field. They were right, running fast in a grassy field is fun, but that can only go so far. If you like Sonic you have probably already bought this game and it's now your game of the year. If you don't like Sonic you'll find a middling open-world game with some cool movement. I'm somewhere in the middle. I love Sonic, but I think the game ranges from lackluster at worst and okay at best.

Really Eh. Like REALLY REALLY Eh. It's janky and I didn't care much for the story. Maybe if you're a diehard sonic fan you'll like it, but for a game to be good, it needs to appeal to a wide audience. I've only ever played Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Mania, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and around half of Sonic Forces, and it just didn't click for me.

Whether you’re engaging enemies and bosses with the game’s new fun and rewarding combat system, or exploring one of the many many short obstacle course built into the open zone there is something to do around every corner. The cyberspace stages are the perfect way to break up the open zone gameplay and sonic back to his roots with fun well designed linear stages all with multiple challenges to tackle. I won’t get into spoilers but the major boss encounters are the best encounters not only on this game but the entire sonic series as a whole, the game is almost worth it for them alone. The music is all absolutely steller and enhances the mood perfectly at any given time. The story is a fun and intriguing mystery that lets sonic and friends reflect on their pasts and help each other get through such a dire situation. The writing is a huge step up from previous games and allows the characters to feel like actual characters and not just mouthpieces to say lame jokes. There are minor technical issues such as pop-in but other then that the game runs smoothly and I never ran into a single glitch prior to obtaining the platinum trophy. Overall the game is incredibly well made, packed to the brim with things to do and I absolutely recommend it to anyone that is a fan of platformers! Expand

this game has a killer soundtrack with next-to no misses in the entire thing, the best soundtrack in the series in my opinion. the biggest point i hear brought up is the cyberspace levels feeling kinda bland and Sonic too slow in them, i think they're fine, with a speed that's not the fastest, but still pretty fast, and you can blow through these stages if you know some shortcuts, but ithis game has a killer soundtrack with next-to no misses in the entire thing, the best soundtrack in the series in my opinion. the biggest point i hear brought up is the cyberspace levels feeling kinda bland and Sonic too slow in them, i think they're fine, with a speed that's not the fastest, but still pretty fast, and you can blow through these stages if you know some shortcuts, but i can see why people would think they're too slow, and i would honestly prefer to play the levels their based on more than these ones. now about those open zones, there's basically 4 of them, with one of them being a bridge between 2 of them, for their first time attempting these i think they did a solid job, kinda empty but there's a decent amount of things to do, like collecting memory tokens (which despite what people think you DO NOT need to collect all of them to do everything) unlock more of the map and gain fruits to level sonic up, collect gears from mini bosses to access cyberspace levels and get vault keys which unlock chaos emeralds, which you need to progress or find Kucos. a decent amount of things to do, and if you don't like doing something like getting fruit or Kocos you can find a purple cyberspace portal to fish with Big, he will take purple coins (something that can also be found in the zone) and in exchange let you borrow his fishing rod, pulling up fish will get you a random fish, or funny object, and when you get something he'll give you tokens, these can be used to buy any of the items if you don't feel like searching for them, fruit, vault keys, gears, koco, and more. the combat is something new to Sonic, and it isn't any devil may cry or bayonetta, but i think it's a pretty good start for the first game to try it, the skill tree is relatively small, and i would've loved more moves, i unlocked them all by the end of the third island, the moves demolish enemies with ease but the stronger ones have counters to this like shields to not keep it too easy. now one thing i have a gripe with are the puzzles, they are WAY too easy, i get this is a kids game, but even for them this may be too easy, not very sonic-esque at all. i saw this white orb flying around and thought this might be a secret rings reference, where i'd have to race it somewhere, but then you just press and hold a button near it for a second, or the one where you gotta parry something, which is just holding down the bumpers, parrying is basically free in this game and demolishes almost anything. also the physics feel a bit weird at times, like Sonic's just glued to the ground, i'll run off a cliff expecting to fly off and Sonic runs down the cliff sometimes, it's weird. all-in-all Sonic Frontiers is a fun game that i think both new and old Sonic fans will enjoy, it could just use a bit of polish here and there... and let us re-fight the Titans PLEASE. My only substantial criticism of the game is its ending- it grows very clear that Sonic Team is a group of 50-60 people making a game that should have had much larger staff and a much larger budget. As beyond their control as it is, the last few areas of the game and the final bosses seem to indicate that they ran out of steam, unfortunately. That being said, this game is still incredibly fun, and I will gladly 100% it a second time. Maybe even a third. Expand

Never before has Sonic felt this fun to me. The way he controls captures a sense of speed and handling I didn't think possible given past experience with the various different gameplay styles the series has had. Being able to run around the various islands in this new "open-zone" format left me wanting to explore every nook and cranny as fast as I could. The combat, while nothing ground-breaking as far as industry standards go, led to exhilarating encounters with interesting enemies which is something I can honestly say I never expected out of this franchise. The Cyberspace levels, the classic Zones of the game which, admittedly, I wasn't a fan of at the start of this adventure, quickly made me proud to be a longtime fan of the franchise. Many of the level layouts were ripped from prior titles and because of that it actually became a fun little challenge for myself to see if I could remember which game a particular level layout was from.

The music, as is the case with nearly every game in the franchise, is phenomenal. Sonic has never been a stranger to rock and roll with many of its prior soundtracks being comprised of a mix of "butt rock," and synth-pop, but I don't think I've ever heard any themes that veer this hard into metalcore. The boss themes go HARD. With music composed by Sleeping with Sirens, Dangerkids, Nathan Sharp, and One Ok Rock, this soundtrack leaves you wanting to bang your head as you smack around some gargantuan eldritch abominations.

Yes, I said eldritch abominations. Not the first time the series has dipped into some weird elder god territory, but this may be the best a story of this caliber has ever been handled. The story helmed by Ian Flynn is full to the brim with lore and callbacks and for someone like me, I feel right at home. I feel seen. For the past decade or so, it felt as though Sonic was running away from its past, ignoring established rules and canon, or poking at them in a very meta, mocking kind of way. This game embraces the insanity whole-hog, and served as a reminder of the many reasons why I loved the series, and these characters, as much as I did when I was a kid.

Ultimately, that's how I feel about this game. It makes me feel like a kid again. I feel no shame or guilt over how I feel about this series for the first time in a very, VERY long time. It feels like an old friend has finally come home after losing his way. If you have any interest at all in Sonic Frontiers, I cannot recommend it enough. It left me smiling from ear to ear throughout a majority of my journey. While it may not be a perfect game, it is absolutely a contender for game of the year, in my eyes.

This is the most fun I've had with a video game in a long time, and I genuinely stand by that statement. This game, at least for me, really does a good job at sucking you in and making you want to play for just hours on end. I haven't played a game in a long time that's made me feel this way, and it is quite refreshing. Running around freely in a big open world is something I've always wanted to see in a Sonic game, and this game certainly delivers it very well! Sonic controls the best he has in a long time. He's much easier to maneuver, you can finally turn on a dime again, and the movement overall just feels much more fluid. The new combat system while simple is also a blast to play around with, and you can actually do some pretty flashy tricks and attacks while battling. The control overall does take a bit of time to get used to the first time around, so don't be dissuaded if you aren't getting the hang of things right out of the gate. Once you do, it's really addicting. The game is built to allow you to experiment with Sonic's moveset and find new ways to explore the Islands through stuff like the boost (obviously), Drop Dash, and other ways of covering ground more quickly. It's not perfect by any means, and there are things about the game that definitely could've been done better or at the least differently. Without going into spoilers, the true ending kind of is just a bit disappointing, and of course there are some technical issues like the pop in and whatnot (not really a whole lot of bugs though, from what I came across). But in all honesty, that's okay! Let's be real, no game is perfect, and as long as the game is still fun, that should be what matters the most. And if there is one thing that this game certainly is, it's pure fun from start to finish. If you like Sonic or are interested in trying a new Sonic game, I highly recommend Sonic Frontiers. It's a great time and I really think you'll have a ball with it once you start playing and getting the hang of things. And if you want my advice, take the time to really explore your surroundings because it just really enhances the experience. Overall, I'm giving it a 9/10. Expand

There is nothing remotely redeeming about this game. Nothing that even the most die-hard loyal Sonic Fans would or should advocate for. I hope that one day someone who cares enough about this franchise could give us something-anything of substance. A fan can hope, can’t they? A fan can hope.

Finally, after almost 25years of half measures and mostly mediocre titles, Sonic has finally reached the 3D levels of gameplay it needed to reach. Yes, the pop in is absolutely inexcusable and the ancient gatekeeping grindy methods damage the flow of the game for no reason, but a wonderfully built base exists here, with a highly entertaining adventure in wonderfully melancholic world and a surprisingly well founded story, thankfully clean of Sonic’s annoying 3rd tier friends!
