    Wow, what a game. This game was like a drug to me, could not stop playing it. When I was not playing it , I was thinking about it, etc. Great gunplay, coupled with never seemingly unbeatable foes make the grind worth it to me.

    Pros: - Addicting - Enemy design, level design, loot design - Gameplay - Light Show - Getting good So-So: - As a rogue like game, it isnt as deep as    Wow, what a game.     Returnal also has a decent open-ended story that is up to interpretation, with a fascinating presentation. Game is not for everyone, but if you like a challenging game, this game is worth full price. Even if you do not like hard games, I will still reccomend when it goes on sale. This would have been my goty for 2021 if I had a ps5 last year!    … Expand

    I'm 12 hours in and have just beat the first boss ! I'm useless at this game but man I absolutely love it ! It's a visual and sound fast paced extravaganza that's totally original with some creepy Alien atmosphere mixed in Don't let the rogue element put you off it rocks

    Talking about the game design aspect this is easiest way to get long play time with less development effort and bringing some random logical explanation to tackle the stupid implications. By far this game worst than Bloodborne and stop giving these kind of stupid companies credits for making some irritating unsatisfying boring repetitive games.

    This is one of the best games I have ever played. If you are a parent this will be especially meaningful. The gameplay is smooth and while the levels can be challenging the bosses are fairly straightforward. The only part I found frustrating was getting the three keys to unlock that one door, but if you strategize right even that isn’t too big a problem.     The laziest game ever made. It's also hilariously ugly for a PS5 game. Avoid at all cost.

    This game seems like it would be good, but to be perfectly honest it is way too difficult for me so I haven't seen very much of it. I haven't been able to get through the first biome. I'm sure this game would be cool if it had an easy mode, but as it is I feel like I wasted $60, don't make the same mistake I did.

    Un imperdible del Ps5, de esos juegos que se vuelven de culto instantáneamente

    I never really got into rougelikes and really like don't like most indie game styles. BUT then my friend gave this as birthday present and it's actually an AA(A) title that looks and felt very good. I did not want to stop playing.
    The most astonishing part is how captivating the atmosphere is. You really feel like on an alien planet. Best play this with the playstation headset! Incredible    I never really got into rougelikes and really like don't like most indie game styles.     I actually didn't die that much, I always played safe and took no risks and did like 14 runs in 20 hours until I beat act 2.
    I can really see why Sony bought that Studio and am curious what they'll do next.

    So in the end if you like shooting and are not afraid of dying/challenge this is surely worth it's money and is among the better, if not best PS5 Games.    … Expand

    Esta es mi opinión tras unas 6 horas de juego.

    Puntos positivos desde mi punto de vista: La fluidez en la jugabilidad, se notan esos 60 fps bastante estables en todo momento,la ambientación siempre me da la impresión de estar en un mundo alienigena tipo la película prometeus y lo rápido que carga y reorganiza los escenarios cada vez que reinicia el ciclo. La mezcla de géneros como bullethell, rogue like y metroid vania y el uso casi completo que hace del dualsense. Puntos negativos según mi opinión:
    La historia, demasiado críptica, he llegado al segundo nivel y sigo sin entender el porque y las motivaciones de ir a ese lugar del personaje.
    Frustra bastante cada vez que mueres, aunque ese es su componente rogue like, pero cada vez que reinicias la especialidad de las armas se mantiene y eso te facilita la siguiente partida, pero no quita esa frustración. No obstante cuando matas al primer jefe y consigues la llave para ir al siguiente mundo ocurre como los souls, te da esa sensación de triunfo tras tanto luchar por conseguir algo. El componente online es meramente anecdótico, solo misiones diarias para conseguir éter compitiendo en puntuación contra otros usuarios.... La conclusión:
    Para ser una nueva ip y el primer juego en 3d que ha desarrollado housemark creo que es muy buen juego, no recuerdo ningún roguelike en 3d, de hecho pienso que ese el genero aún le queda mucho que ofrecer y pocos lo intentan llevar un paso más allá, al menos con esta ip se intenta y se logra desde mi opinión. Se agradece que saquen nuevas ips y más si son de esta calidad. El juego es desafiante, si, pero cuando lo tienes por mano se disfruta y mucho.    … Expand

    Gameplay - Excellent. Gunplay is awesome. Bullet hell elements are mind-blowing. It gets crazy. I love it.

    Temporary Progression - Resets after each cycle. There are 6 biomes. Each biome typically ends with a boss(except Biome 5). If you die anywhere during Biome 1,2,3 - you restart at the beginning of Biome 1 with most progression for that run lost. If you die anywhere during Biome    Gameplay - Excellent. Gunplay is awesome. Bullet hell elements are mind-blowing. It gets crazy. I love it.

    Temporary Progression - Resets after each cycle. There are 6 biomes. Each biome typically ends with a boss(except Biome 5). If you die anywhere during Biome 1,2,3 - you restart at the beginning of Biome 1 with most progression for that run lost. If you die anywhere during Biome 4,5,6 you restart at beginning of Biome 4. You only need to defeat each boss only once, not fight him again to progress to the next biome in your next run.

    Permanent progression - The more you play, the stronger you get by unlocking weapon perks and permanent upgrades like new traversal mechanics that make more areas from previous biomes accessible. So re-running through previous biomes has more value.

    Story - It's quite intriguing, but the ending doesn't really pay off the build-up. You shouldn't be playing this with a story focus.

    Difficulty - It's not easy. But I don't think it's as tough as people think(for reference, I hate tough games. Never played any Souls-borne for that reason.)
    But you also can't just blindly button mash. You have to think and adapt.

    Length - Took me 46 hours(53 deaths) to roll credits. Individual mileage may vary, if you die less, you progress faster. You may also take much more time than that.

    Overall, I would highly recommend this game. But you have to go in with the right expectations, and be prepared to die. Feels awful when you die when almost killing a boss, and for the same reason feels absolutely exhilarating when you do kill one off.

    The game is very, very good, the world and its lore sucks you in, the sound design is up there with the best I have heard especially if you play with a headset, graphics are outstanding and the controller feedback is ace.

EDIT beat him last night, now on the next Biome, the game opens up and adds extra items, loving it

    I heard the difficulty spikes in the 3rd biome and then gets easier

    This game wont be for everyone, playing for a few hours and having nothing to show will put a lot of people off but I think it will also be GOTY for others.

    I am getting on a bit now, in my 40s and my reaction times are not what they were 20 years ago, so I may never finish the game, but thats ok

    I feel health is the key, always try to maximise your health bar and have pick ups which restore it and also just accept sometimes a run will just be unlucky and you will hit a mini boss or room that is above your level

    Overall I recommend this game, it is a little pricey and some people will have an hour and want to sell it, so it is a risky recommend    … Expand

    I played around 50 hours before giving this rate and… I would not waste money in this game.

    This game is fantastic. I didn't really know what to expect when I bought it because I haven't really played roguelites before but it sucked me in. I dumped 50+ hours into it and progressed to one of the final bosses right before I went on a vacation. For some reason when I got back from vacation I never picked it back up and ended up moving on to other games. I fully intend to revisit itThis game is fantastic.     I wasted $70 plus tax on this game for no reason. If you enjoy collecting lots of items and upgrades and then losing them all out of nowhere, then this is the game for you. You randomly stumble into boss fights with no warning whatsoever. Every biome room you enter is literally a coin toss between something good or something bad. Also, FIX THE SAVE POINT SYSTEM!

    I lved this game, but the lack of save feature is just killing me. I would give 9-10 if there was a a save feature at least at the end of every biome. But like this, replying every level again just for nothing, it’s becoming frustrating after some time.

    Ottimo gameplay Ottima l'implementazione del DualSense e dell'audio 3D Trama interessante che ti spinge ad andare sempre a avanti.
    Se siete appassionati del genere roguelike o appassionati di film come Prometheus, Alien, La Guerra dei Mondi e Edge of Tomorrow, Returnal sarà un ottimo acquisto!

    Video juego que no aporta nada bueno al genero y mas bien bajo mi punto de vista lo empeora. RogueLike que no permite guardar la partida en un tiempo prudencial y al estar roto el sistema de reposo de PS5 tienes que jugar de manera continuada artificialmente. El videojuego no funciona a 4K tal y como dice la prensa, funciona a 1080p, confirmado por Housemarque. En cuanto a jugabilidad,Video juego que no aporta nada bueno al genero y mas bien bajo mi punto de vista lo empeora. RogueLike que no permite guardar la partida en un tiempo prudencial y al estar roto el sistema de reposo de PS5 tienes que jugar de manera continuada artificialmente. El videojuego no funciona a 4K tal y como dice la prensa, funciona a 1080p, confirmado por Housemarque. En cuanto a jugabilidad, como shooter es una basura, los enemigos se teletransportan, lanzan disparos a la nada o lo que es peor aun, te fijan como objetivo automaticamente y da igual donde estes o te escondas, los disparos van dirigidos hacia a ti sin ningun sentido. El videojuego tiene numerosos bugs, hay enemigos que se quedan atrapados en puertas, por lo que situandonos al otro lado de la misma podemos matarlos sin que puedan dañarnos, los demas son tan faciles de matar que podemos ir a saco con ellos. Otro aspecto que yo considero bug, aunque mas bien es fallo de diseño, es el humo que se desprende del suelo, al no dejarte ver donde pisas te caes con frecuencia. En cuanto al diseño de juego, me parece de PS3 sinceramente, hay niebla por todos sitios que no te dejan ver mas alla de 3 metros para que los FPS no caigan, el humo del suelo más de lo mismo, todo para engañar al ojo y que la PS5 no sufra, los escenarios estan vacios y oscuros, con poca variedad en misiones, el nivel de detalle de las texturas no se aprecia hasta que no estas a un centimetro y muchas veces puedes ver como se cargan delante tuyo. Por si todo esto os sabe a poco en la ultima actualización acaban por joder definitivamente el juego y tengo que empezar desde el principio, no lo haré. En definitiva, es un juego hiperinflado a promociones a falta de mas titulos exlusivos de PS5 que en cualquier otro momento hubiese sacado 3 puntos menos de nota, si quereis un Rogue divertido este no está hecho para vosotros, jugadores.… Expand

    I dont care it doesnt autosave or save in the middle, that’s the essence of roguelikes.
    It is visually mesmerizing and every cycle feels different. It takes advantage of the 3D tempest audio and the haptic    I didnt know what to expect from the game before I bought it, I just found out it was a roguelike game a couple days before launch but I loved hades and new I would like Returnal.

    Im having the most fun time with Returnal im finally using my PS5 which was rare when their was really no good games to play besides Demons Souls. So far i havent come accross any bugs or glitches in my runs, but WARNING this game is extremely hard its not for everyone definitely do your research before you spend $70 on it. For me this game is worth my $70 and hopefully more games similarIm having the most fun time with Returnal im finally using my PS5 which was rare when their was really no good games to play besides Demons Souls. So far i havent come accross any bugs or glitches in my runs, but WARNING this game is extremely hard its not for everyone definitely do your research before you spend $70 on it.     Too bad i cannot get a refund after downloading. The fact that you start from the very beginning every time you die and you loose everythingjust makes it BORING, and even worse you cant turn off this mode or something. even in dark souls at least you can level up and save gear but here you just start with nothing. justed wasted money

    I cant recommend this game. I finished it several times. Problem is my playtime is like 25 hours and i lost 6-7 hours of progression cause of crashes that happens way to often. I had about 10 crashes and 2 freezes while playing it. For me personal it ruined my ecperience and my Motivation to play it

    This is my first roguelike, but I really enjoyed it!

    I beat this game and went a little further, and this was without the save option later added, whatever that turned out to be. I thought the weapons and words where really cool. Had some issues with some monsters until I figured out what I was doing wrong.     What a blast of a game!
    Solid gameplay (as Housemarque always provides), challenging mechanics, learning curve and polishment. The game has not crashed a single time during my gameplay and the performance was smooth, considering the graphics aren't anything breathtaking yet pretty decent.
    I hope Housemarque gets the praise it deserves!

    Why is the user rating 7.2??? It was such a cool game. The story is so intriguing, I loved trying to piece together the puzzle that is the plot. Combat is so satisfying when you play it right, makes you feel like a space ninja. It deserves 8.5 at the very least.

Returnal didn't initially appeal to me when it was announced because I'm generally not into roguelikes, but I gave this game a shot on PS Plus and after I put some time into it, I was hooked. The game doesn't let up from the very start, providing the player with a variety of challenges and obstacles to overcome in order to go deeper into the hostile planetHoly hell, this game rocks. Returnal didn't initially appeal to me when it was announced because I'm generally not into roguelikes, but I gave this game a shot on PS Plus and after I put some time into it, I was hooked. The game doesn't let up from the very start, providing the player with a variety of challenges and obstacles to overcome in order to go deeper into the hostile planet Atropos. It's really hard, and the challenge continues to ramp up the more you play with crazy aggressive enemies and bullet-hell style gameplay. There are various malfunctions you can obtain from malignant items like a scrambled map, reduced max health, the inability to pick up new items, and tons more. The bosses can be quite formidable and they all have 3 phases, doing their best to ensure you won't survive. But even with all of these things in mind, the game has multiple factors that can shift the odds in your favor. Killing enemies rewards you with obolites, which are a currency used to purchase various stat buffs and collectibles, and there's another currency called ether that stays with you after dying and can be used for other purposes. There are parasites to collect that provide an upside and downside, reconstructors that allow you to respawn without restarting from scratch, a healthy selection of guns that mostly get better the more you play, various forms of alt-fire that provide a much more powerful attack at the cost of a longer cooldown, a melee attack that's used for breaking shields, resins that can increase your maximum health, defensive options like shields, and various other great mechanics at play. The more enemies you kill without taking damage, the more your adrenaline increases, which grants abilities like enhanced vision of the area and a higher amount of obolites dropped from killed enemies. A minimap of the area is present in the bottom right of the corner, which does a great job of letting you know which way to go next, which is especially helpful in a game where the environments are changing all the time. You can find other active players who recently died and choose to avenge them by taking on the enemy they died to or to steal their equipment, and if a player avenges you it grants you with a collectible. Basically, there's a lot of things at play in Returnal, and the game becomes very addictive once you start getting a hang of things. The atmosphere in this game is easily one of its greatest strengths, with grotesque looking bosses, creepy music and audio, and some very interesting worldbuilding that I won't spoil here. This game definitely had problems with crashing at launch and you initially couldn't save your progress in the middle of a run, but both of those issues have since been addressed and this game has only crashed on me one time, and even when it did my progress was saved and I was able to continue with the run I had started when I jumped back into it. If those things scared you away from this game, I'd recommend giving it another chance. There's even an endless mode in addition to the story mode where you have to survive as many floors of the Tower of Sisyphus as you can, with some additional story elements and a very addicting gameplay loop of its own. There are some occasional performance issues when there are a lot of projectiles on screen, and the ending of the game leaves many questions unanswered, but overall, this is a must-play on PS5 in my opinion. I'm not sure if I would consider it worth $70, but it knocks it out of the park in so many areas and I would definitely recommend it to people who want to try their first roguelike or who just want an awesome game in general.… Expand

    It's a great game, the visuals, and the score are fantastic, the way housemarque used the dualsense controller is neatly satisfying. The story is interesting but the gameplay is soo good that you can play Till morning without even noticing! Definitely a must-play for all PS5 owners!

    The game is impressive on every level with a magnificent story. The implementation of dualsense and 3D audio gives an amazing immersion. I don't really like the rogue-like genre but this game makes me love every death. I look forward to a sequel from Housemarque.

The lore is amazing and took me by surprise. The enemies actually look threatening and there's always a sense of danger.     As a lover of challenging games like Dark Souls, Sekiro, Bloodborne, etc, Returnal has fulfilled my expectations. A frenetic gameplay, an involving story, time paradoxes and not to mention that I'm a lover of science fiction. I'm happy that Sony is taking this path with its exclusives to give more variety and that it's implementing the features that make PS5 unique in this generation

    Just beat the game today, simply incredible start to finish. The gameplay is insanely fun and this is the best PS5 game out hands down. Difficulty is way overblown, just find the secrets the game has and you'll be just fine.

    This game is definitely punishing. But with the right mindset going in, this game has plenty going for it to pull you in and keep you shooting. It's a difficult game but it is one of the few games that make me want to get better instead of giving up. A MUST BUY in my book.

Returnal realmente merece la pena si tienes paciencia para esta clase de juegos donde tendrás que aceptar morir constantemente y volverlo a intentar.

    This isn't a "Game too hard issue" it's a fundamental design issue. If you die you start back and the beginning of the game. Not the Biome you reached. You don't get a "Checkpoint" until Biome 3 which is between 3-6 hours into the game depending on skill level. Again you cannot save or even turn the game off at all.

    Otherwise it plays very well and it looks amazing. if the developer and Sony add a save feature or letting you start at the next Biome you reach then the game would be great. Unfortunately due to the way it's set up it destroys what would have been an interesting concept    … Expand

    Over all do yourself a favor and don't listen those guys who didn't understood the mechanics and thinking they where loosing time with this game because there wasn't any progress, there is progress in dying, enjoy this game ASAP.    … Expand

The game literally thinks I've never played it. I'm returning this game. Do pissed. Guess what would have been the saving grace. F@*king save points. Do not buy.

I will say this is probably the most likeable out of any roguelike game but I'm not sure that's saying much. This genre of games always tout themselves as being "challenging" but really what they all mean is frustrating. The game needs more saves or some sort of leveling system that you can carry items over. Spending hours grinding through the first level then dying at the boss and having to start over just makes me want to return the game.    … Expand

If you are 20 and have nothing but time and no life, ok, but this will eat whole saturdays and leave you with not so much as an extra resin for your time. F this game.

    A perfect example of the performance of the PS5 and all its functions. Great gameplay and the music catches and won't let go until you get to the bottom of it all. But in the end, the final may surprise you unpleasantly.
