    If you want to rescue a nobody all the time then play RE4. No true fan wants that and that's why we don't do that anymore in other RE games.

    For real RE gameplay you have a bunch of other games to choose from...........

    Just started this game! The story so far is really dumb, Leon came in uninvited with a weapon and superkick the self-defending house owner, then proceed to destroy the farming village afterwards. Is he actually a villain here?

    Hopefully later on it gets better but RE2 was much better!!

    Finally finished this game and is massively disappointed! Many content was missing, not being faithful to the original, even less scary than before, and Ashley still is a pointless addition to the game.

    Not recommended.

    It's not a bad game, but I was expecting more than this. My first play through was the hardcore mode and it was so difficult. Don't get fooled, play the standard mode first, even if you have played the original. Capcom could've tune down the action a bit and not copy it from the original, and it gets even worse now.     A lot of things worried me about this game when it was first announced and a lot of those worries were basically confirmed after playing it. I love the original RE4 and it’s fair to say that most people will still feel that this remake doesn’t replace the og no matter how shiny it looks.     Leon controls horrible in this. Just the movement and especially the gun aiming is awful. Purposely unstable to “enhance the horror” of not being able to properly aim. Leon is supposed to be a professional so why is he a wobbly mess? The game even goes further to make this a bigger point in this one compared to the og that Leon went thru a ton of training since RE2 but nope, he can’t aim now. The original felt like the movement and aiming was built around the player so you’d always be in control of the situation, now it’s built around the world and there is no controlling the situation. The knife is a lazy crutch for the devs to claim they added something new and interesting in the game. It works well when it does but it felt like that rarely ever happens. The pacing is awful. The original had so much great dialogue and fun cutscenes that practically got chopped to bits or changed for the worst. Example, isn’t it great how you don’t even get to kill the first villager in the first house at the beginning of the game? Now a cutscene kills him for you. Go down to the basement and kill another and they spoil the later reveal that the las plagas are in their heads. Why? It was such a cool moment in the original when they first started having their heads burst open and the remake devs couldn’t contain themselves. The third act of the remake is worse than the original and longer, while also removing a ton of enemies from the original. Shooting the lake is worse because they don’t know how to blend real time events and instead awkwardly cut to a cutscene. Cutting the fight with U3, the laser rooms, making annoying sidequests. It’s a much bumpier road than the smooth pace of the original.
    The characters are pretty much all worse except Ashley but there wasn’t too much they could change with her except making her bust small and no upskirt to fit with the sensitive times of today especially in an M rated game. Leon is a nervous wreck and talks too much now. Constant Marvel quips during fights are not funny or cool. For as much as people love meme-ing Leon of the original, he only made jokes a couple times throughout the game. The rest of the time he was pretty cool headed about everything. Saddler has a much smaller presence in the game which is a loss and they changed his voice for the worse. He’s not a fun villain anymore, now he’s Bowser from the 90’s Mario Bros movie with Voldemorts voice. Ada is a complete trainwreck, that’s all I need to say. Look up a youtube video of any of her cutscenes and you’ll understand. Luis is uglier and they really ruined his ending. Salazar’s new design is awful. On top of all this they gutted all the conversations on Leon’s radio. But isn’t it cool you get trophies dropping memberberries on some of those radio conversations? No, it’s not.
    The big cheese has a stupid hat, and looks genuinely less scary than the original and more like a big idiot so I don’t understand what happened there. The merchant talks way too much and he doesn’t sound nearly as good as the original guy. Do I even mention how they put in new costumes that all look awful with only a select few being carried over from the original? Of course no white shirt Ashley because that would be offensive and would upset game journalists.
    I’m not happy at all with this game but I’m also glad the original still isn’t replaceable. I don’t like where capcom is going with the Resident Evil franchise since 7 even though I liked it for what it was. It seems like they’re taking it in a very bland and modern day hollywood direction instead of trying to be innovative or creative. If they had put this energy into making a new RE instead of remaking 4, I think I would have liked it more. Now it just seems like an easy cashgrab. Especially true since based of how they end RE4 remake we may not even get a remake of the game that deserves it, Code Veronica, or even RE5 but that game also doesn't need a remake. Just not happy with where things look like they’re going for a series I once loved.    … Expand

    Contains pay to win rubbish. Clearly the company no longer cares about Resident Evil if they are willing to do this. It's disrespectful to your consumers. No single player game should have this. No even multiplayer but definitely not single player. Thanks for ruining the game. If your gonna do this then pass the game onto someone who won't do this. Never do this again!

    First of all I have to say that I consider the original RE4 a masterpiece and the best video game ever made and a remake of this game was going to be a task doomed to disappoint in some ways which this game indeed did. At the same time I enjoyed this game a lot (mainly because it felt fresh and new) and I see improvements here and there over the original that I would miss playing it again.First of all I have to say that I consider the original RE4 a masterpiece and the best video game ever made and a remake of this game was going to be a task doomed to disappoint in some ways which this game indeed did.     Before remaking a beast of a game which is RE4 you would first have to understand what made it so special in the first place and how it interprets horror because the game does it differently than it's predecessors. In some degree the devs of RE4R did but in a lot of points they failed to see the brilliance in some things that may not go with todays mainstream understanding of how (horror and action) games should look and play.

    One example visually: I am not an artist in any way but the original set an overwhelming mood by using colours and light. Especially the lighting is sometimes terrible in the remake and misses the point that the original made. RE4 is by no means bright but you are aware of the environment at all times because it is just well lit enough to see every detail of for example a room that you are in. Look at the water hall. It seems that in RE4R the devs just thought dark = spooky so we have to make it darker. Although that sometimes can be the case it just bad to generalize it so much. The point is the water room is not a place where something is lurking in the shadows, the horror is more like "here is the danger right in your face, deal with that, NOW". On the other hand there are areas where it does make sense to make it darker for example the labs where the regenerators lurk or the encounter of the first villager. The original achieves horror over stress (survival horror) which brings me to the next point.

    The gameplay: the main change in gameplay is that now you can perform reloading, relocating, shooting at the same time. I chose the word relocating because that is actually what you are doing in the original. You are looking for a good place to stop and shoot or reload. You are constantly evaluating these choices which creates what? Yes, stress! which again is part of the horror in this game. It also shows in the small amount of ammo and healing items that you will find in the game to always remind the player: shots count! enemy hits count! The remake on the other hand is taking a different approach by saying that now you have to be in constant movement. Just standing in a corner will not help you anymore which the village fight perfectly demonstrates. I actually like this idea a lot but feel that the devs failed to implement it in the rest of game which was designed to work with the relocating approach. Which brings me to the next thing I really dislike about the remake: the staggers. Now enemies can tank headshots while the original was rewarding every headshot with a 100% stagger to lead to a powerful roundhouse to make space for you. Ok, you don’t need that any more as now you are more agile but I have to say that it just is not as fun as the original where, like I mentioned, you feel rewarded every time you hit a headshot.

    To the soundtrack I have to say that again the remake fails to understand the original in some aspects. While the soundtrack of the original has a lot of noisy, environmental, eerie tracks the remake adds more epic ones which is ok but there are a lot of areas in the remake that are just silent. Why they removed the serenity track from the save rooms is just beyond me. It was supposed to sooth you and calm you down to build up the tension afterwards again. Something genius that the devs failed to see.

    What disappointed me the most about the remake was the island section which was the weakest part of the original that would have needed more drastic changes. The island is basically a military base with a little bit of ruins, underground and labs here and there. This miliary base setting never clicked with me and it always felt like the horror part is mostly over now and we now enter the like 90% action and 10% horror part of the game while before it was like 60-40. The remake did not change a lot here. It was only optimized while it needed a complete overhaul.

    At the end of the day you have to ask yourself what the remake really 100% improved and what you would miss playing the best version of the original which is the HD project by re4hd.com :

    - Changing weapons over d-pad
    - Picking up items faster and no despawn of items
    - Storage box for weapons and first-aid-sprays
    - balancing of the weapons
    - enemy designs (Dr. Salvador looks amazing!)
    - re-design of Ashley and her dynamic with Leon

    Meanwhile I miss following things that were in the original:

    - sound
    - art direction, lighting, style
    - good voice acting (Ada)
    - content
    - death and reload animations
    - lack of micro-transactions
    - no frustrating grab attacks but rewarding 100% staggers    … Expand

The issue is that you have to run all the time, when you let go of the run button Leon walks almost stopping or completely breaking the rhythm and immersion.     The VA for Ada sounded like she was not interested in the game at all, i do not agree with people going into her social media accounts and insulting her, she was pretty bad at voice acting.
    They changed much of the dialogue and some of the outfits with some of the bonus outfits looking like trash and the censorship was bad. Please play the original if you want to experience the game.

    Absolutely Loved this game, stayed so true to the original while still keeping its own feel and not feeling like a copy and paste. The game is so immersive and fun and it is one of very few games that even after you’ve just completed it there’s still so much replayablility, Highly Recommend this game. 10/10

    Decent graphics on top of almost 20y old game. Theres so much shooting that you got tired of it in the last stages of the game. But if you just run through zombies, the game is just short corridor shooter.

    I love Resident Evil more than anything in the world, which is why it pains me to say this:

    REM4KE is terrible. I was too young to play the original RE4 when it came out, so my experience with the game is limited to a few scattered sections here and there across my later teenage years.     This remake certainly captures the 'seriously? there's more?' feeling from the original, which is one of the pieces I wish they'd left behind. RE4 is always wanting to go bigger, go more outlandish, and get more ridiculous, almost to the detriment of the experience. RE4 is not scary, but, more offensively, it's not even fun.

    Leon turns like a bus and feels like he's on ice skates. Sprinting is infinitesimally faster than just walking. Ashley's pathing was coded in DOS in 1988. The setting sucks and the levels are usually a straight shot from entrance to exit. The battle arenas are obvious when you walk into them and are usually built around you training the enemies so you can eventually run right past them to the exit. There are bizarre vehicle sections that offer the player almost nothing aside from the headache of having to use the least navigable map of all time.

    Many people will like the illusion of open linearity and the opportunity to really fight instead of scavenge and survive, but I'm not many people. I don't go to RE for the action set pieces or the third person shooting galleries (which you can find in every other game now), I go to RE for the horror. The dark, cramped hallways with fakeout enemies. Crawling under floorboards while your captor walks above. Scavenging every last bit of ammo just to try to clear the next enemy and survive another few minutes.

    I don't come here for the backflips, the quips, the military arsenal, the bad lighting, the dull atmosphere, the nameless, faceless enemies, the stupid "plaga" that is somehow less interesting than the dumb fungus from the new trilogy, escort missions, catapults that make an entire section of the game unplayable, CoD zombies simulations, idle weapon sway (speaking of CoD), weapon bloom, low-res textures in/on the castle, and Leon's **** side part.

    Resident Evil 4, then and now, is not a good Resident Evil game. Its success seems more a remnant of the 2000s video game zeitgeist when it was cool to pack as much schlock into your games as possible. It was the game that ushered many of us from gaming nascency to adolescence so the nostalgia is fair...

    ...but that doesn't excuse the game for still being a boring, bloated, middling third-person shooter that wants to be Gears of War more than it wants to be a RE game.

    If there was one thing I liked, it was that Leon's hands shook in the early chapters of the game. That's it.

    Many see RE4 as the apex of the series, as a rebound from 3, and as a peak that was never reached until 7. For me, RE4 is the disappointment that proves that RE2 and RE7 are lightning in a bottle. It's the continuation of the downslide started by RE3.

Secundario) tarda mucho en reaccionar, se queda atascada; hablando de laLos Gráficos, la Ambientación, Los Detalles y Físicas están bien logrados y mejores que el original; pero no puedo decir lo mismo que la Música y los Sonidos Ambientales, además que el gameplay lo siento muy tosco, León (Personaje) es muy lento y tosco incluso peor que el original, además que igualmente Ashley (P. The same happens here. Leon is a TEEN now. He has a teenager's voice and a younger appearance. And talking about appearance, his design is wrecked. In some angles, he looks like he has mumps and looks like he fried for 12 hours per day in the sun. He can't shut his mouth during the gameplay and can't stop making mean jokes. He looks angry all the time, always edgy like Dante from Ninja Theory was. Original Leon is always calm, always confident with a side smile. He looks mature and much more well-designed. He tells jokes but always with a serene tone because he's super secure and badass, like Dante from Capcom is. Remake Leon is totally the opposite. He's perfect for this new edgy teenager generation who likes to listen to Phonk all day long, dreaming about becoming a man they never will. The voice of the ganados is trash. They kinda talk now; there's almost no harshness in their voices like they used to have in the original. Saddler is an old grandpa and looks feeble now with his bald ass head and generic villain personality. Perfect for a cartoon villain. Ada sounds like my 56-year-old aunt. Salazar looks like my grandma but 5 feet shorter. And Krauser's voice sounds forced, unnatural. It looks like the game was made by interns. And the guns. OMG, the guns. It feels like total plastic. No recoil, no satisfying sound. It feels like you're firing sponges. Nothing like in the original. The only good points in this game are the graphics and physics.     I'll be honest, it used to be a great series in the horror gaming world, but now it's just a name from the past. The game's audience cares more about the characters than the actual gameplay. It's a decent game, but it's overrated. If you were to give it to someone who has never played the game before, they would probably give it a maximum rating of 7.

    Secretly patching microtransactions after all game ratings have been published is cheeky and should be banned. I am very disappointed in capcom. the remake actually turned out quite well, but this kind of business practice is disgusting.

The RE2 worked great because it was a much older game and enough time had passed that it could be truly remade. In a lot of ways the RE2 remake was done to make it feel more like the winning format they discovered in RE4.     Put simply, RE4 didn't need to be remade. A simple graphical overhaul could be done, sure, but the gameplay in RE4 completely holds up. The first thing I did after I finished this remake was go start another playthrough of RE4 VR (which I maintain is still the superior version). This game left a bland taste in my mouth and overall it just feels like a cash-grab. Not a lazy cash-grab like the RE3 remake, but a cash-grab nonetheless.

    That's not to say the game is terrible or is not enjoyable. It has plenty of fun moments and it's interesting to see how they reimagined some things, but ultimately this fails to achieve what it strived for.    … Expand

    The graphics are blurry and has glitches on the ps5. Capcom never fix this despite people voicing out their concerns from the demo! There are also some minor frame rate issues.

    Was absolutely FANTASTIC, played through the game several times now trying to unlock everything I can. The original re4 was great but this remake definitely makes it feel more connected to the previous games, and still has the same charm imo.     RE4 R is a safe, unfinished, inferior re-imagining of one of the greatest games ever made that has unnecessary monetization (day one DLC plus more added after reviews) and doesn't need to exist. However I still really enjoy it and recommend it.

    The crazy level of mainstream praise this game has received is bad for the future of the medium. The dismissal of the original, the claims that the original needed modernizing and that this new version of RE4 is better or on par with the original is awful. I thought video games were a medium deserving respect. Doesn't the gaming community get pissed off anytime someone from TV or film makes an ignorant comment about games. So why are we treating one of our classics like this because there is a shiny new but inferior version out. Could you imagine this happening to a classic film, TV show, book etc? Are video games disposable toys that we get rid of when new ones come out or are they art?

    The way the original plays is so good. The combination of the way Leon moves/controls, standing your ground, accurate shooting, melee attacks, knife, repositioning when needed and using the environment to your advantage with the way enemies move/attack/behave/react, enemy variety, level design, the weaponry and set pieces just works so damn well. It doesn't have any right to be this good but it is. It is near perfect. This re-imagining takes this gameplay and tries to modernize it, make it more realistic and play similar to other modern 3rd person shooters. In doing so they upset the near perfect balance. So they tried adding new things and re-balancing to get it near perfect again but failed. What we are left with is a game that is good to play but less fun and more frustrating than a game made almost 20 years ago. Nearly every part of the gameplay needs adjusting. But I think with further tweaking it could play different but as good the original.

    The re-imagining does do a better job with the story and lore but loses so much of what made the original special. The characters have more depth now but lose almost everything that made them so entertaining. There is so much cut from this game and none of the changes or additions make up for it. The pacing is also worse. How did this re-imagining drag on longer than the original when it has less content? Why do the merchants side missions and back tracking for treasures feel like unnecessary bloat?

    It does look quite good after turning off lens distortion and chromatic aberration but I still prefer the originals art direction. It runs well too. I only noticed a little jankiness and the frame rate only dipped a little when things got busy in the rain. There was a little pop in too.

    Why was Mercenaries not at launch and why does that mode feel underdone? Why are there little things I need to pay extra for? (Like the original soundtrack) Why have they added more little things to pay for? Are these going to make the game easier? Did they deliberately make the game harder/more frustrating/grindy hoping to push some to buy these? (Please don't buy them). Why wasn't all this at launch during the review window? What dlc is coming and how much are they going to charge for it? Why are so many people just okay with this?

    Why am I already tired of this game while looking forward to continuing to replay the original for another 18 years? It is just such a huge missed opportunity. Capcom took something brilliant and instead of remaking it, building on it, trying to improve it and leaning more into what made it one of the best ever they decided to make it something different. But not different or bold and fresh enough to stand on it's own.

    - This game and the original are not survival horror, stop calling every horror game survival horror. It sucks seeing one of your favourite genres being erased by mislabeling and wilful ignorance.

    - This is a re-imagining not a remake. A remake is the same again but hopefully better. A re-imagining is a reinterpretation which is very familiar but different.

    I'm still giving this game a high 7, even though this has been a pretty negative review, because even an inferior re-imagining of RE4 is still RE4, which is unbelievably good. There's still plenty of fun to be had here, there are some good moments and ideas and it's a pretty polished game.

    So go play the original if you haven't or replay it again if it's been a while. But still check out this new version just don't take the mainstream reviews seriously, keep your expectations reasonable, enjoy it for what it is and it'll be a good time. I paid full price day one and got the Platinum trophy and I don't regret it. 7.8/10    … Expand

    The reason I put it such a low score is how Leon meets Ada, also her voice is so horrible to hear. originally it was so epic and awesome but you can't do this nowadays because the USA audience is so uneducated. Game it self 10/10

Overall, this game is 9/10 for me, my only criticism is that you have to pay for playing with Ada and Wesker and upgrade weapons and other items easily.     I am disappointed by game play, music, art style, dialogue, voice actors, and cut content. The game cannot in any way be a replacement for the original 2005 version, and i doubt it will be remembered in a few months.

    Probably the most overrated remake to come out in quite some time. The original came out almost twenty years ago and it pulled off the narrative better than this. Ada looks extremely adolescent, the blood is rubbery looking, and it doesn't have the grit from the original title. The parry is rubbish and absolutely unnecessary.     Good visual enhancements overall, but like.... why play this when the original is still available and arguably still the better version gameplay wise?

    Feel Capcom was getting hungry for some easy cash flow, rather than putting out a product that actually improves ALL aspects of the game experience rather than a shiny retread.

    An overall downgrade from the original accept graphics. Alltough the RE Engine has problems and looks incredibly cheap sometimes. Bad AI, lacking atmosphere, bad acting, modern gaming Last of us controlls and changes that didn't improve anything but only made things different.

    No effort on the script, it couldn't be simpler, the characters we learn nothing new, the dialogues must have been written by a child, the sets are ugly nothing to do with Spain where the adventure takes place

    I was expecting more from this remake....i was really anxious and expecting lots of things since the first announcement, then i see lots of cut content, game became much more action, parry knife defends you even against huge powerful bosses and etc....i expected more and they cut an entire boss battle too

    Actually a good remake but suffers from technical issues : Save files can corrupt and the visual fidelity on PS5 is much worse than on Xbox as chromatic aberration is bugged & checkerboarding ruins image quality.

    The remake of Resident Evil 4 is not as good as the press is telling you. Honestly, to me it's a terrible remake and I wish they would have made Code Veronica X. If you want to play a good Resident Evil from the past, choose the remake of Resident Evil 2.

    Me gustaron mas los anteriores remakes, este tiene mas de lo malo de Resident Evil y menos de lo bueno. Tiene las físicas, movimientos, efectos de un juego de hace 10 años, es soso y aburrido. No esta tan bien optimizado como dicen. Solo veo que cambia la resolución y la iluminación que por cierto no es la gran cosa.

    O jogo original tem criatividade, criou personagens do zero, não usou atores para tudo, não tinha quedas de desempenho com tanta frequência, a jogabilidade era melhor, o estilo gráfico era mais original, o enredo 100x melhor, afinal, foi lá que começou tudo.

    Já o remake é péssimo, queda de desempenho, personagens foram usados atores pois os desenvolvedores não conseguem mais criar um personagem do zero, a jogabilidade lenta me irrita, o enredo modificado ficou péssimo, os gráficos nada demais! And why the **** does Mendez looks like Michael Jackson and doesn't even dance like him! Where the **** is the Moonwalk and the Hee-Hee laugh. Why the **** does Merchant sounds like a **** hippie.     Probably fantastic experience for people who didn't play original game or RE2 remake.

    Overall pretty good, though second part of the game (since castle) is becoming quite repetitive with same arenas of same enemies all the time. Would prefer it to be at least 30-40% shorter.     Resident evil 4 is not about horror game game is not scary no puzzles so resident evil 4 just carry name of resident evil and characters.
    But graphic and action is far good in this game.

    I just can say that OBVIOUSLY I don't miss the giant toy chasing me, nor the underground boss (I don't even remember its name) or the awful Ashley's AI.    … Expand

    The reason i gave 7 is:

    1. You know, when you close to an enemy, you can perform a special knife attack by pressing R2, but if too close, that turns to normal attack, i died many times because of that.

    2. When an enemy is about to hit you, your attack on them may not interrupt their action.

    This remake exceeded every expectation I had for it. They changed certain things but for the better in my opinion. It stays true to its original story, looks amazing, and built on the characters more. Whether you’re new to the series or an OG RE fan, if you haven’t played it yet, PLEASE give it a shot. You will have a blast while playing!

    Resident evil 4 is probably my favourite video game of all time, really can't count the number of hours I sank into the original. Going into the remake I was really just hoping for a good time and wasn't expecting something revolutionary and it did deliver to some extent. The main issue I had with this game was the dialogue.     A very good remake. I'd given it a 9 if it wasn't for the microtransactions that were added post-lauch. However, if you simply don't pay for any additional crap and if you are not an idiot (for example because you spot "woke" things everywhere without being able to tell what the word "woke" is actually supposed to mean) you'll like the game.

    The story of the game is a mediocre story, the gameplay is very enjoyable and attractive, in terms of visuals, it is equal to Cross Gen 2023 games and has a stunning visual, the main boss fights are very similar to each other. The sound design of the game is wonderful, the enemies have a good variety and only one new type of enemy has been added to the remake compared to the original version.

    Overall it holds together very well, and even though I played the whole game in two days with minimal sleep, I didn't even think about taking a break for a while. [Issue#327]

    Resident Evil 4 Remake not only does right by its original source of inspiration, but it also sets a high bar for what modern day remakes can be. All components of the story have been finetuned into a more well-thought out package, and that’s before mentioning the game’s full use of today’s graphical prowess to deliver a more terrifying interpretation of rural Spain. The core gameplay also retains what made it so great back in the day, but with modern amenities such as a parrying system, quick-select for weapons and the ability to run. And despite the new improvements, the increased aggressiveness of the enemies ensures that the game never feels like a cakewalk. I don’t know who still needs to be convinced at this point, but Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece that I cannot recommend enough.
