Excellent game. I tried to like the first one but prefering solo play, I found it was heavily designed for co-op. Remnant 2 is far superior, with just about everything upgraded or addressed from the first one. Absolutely love it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Arsenal Incompleto: Diversidad Desaprovechada

    Veredicto Final: Un Intento Desvanecido

Great follow up sequel. Improves on all the right areas. Love the balance and gameplay. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun and challenging game that still keeps things approachable and easy to jump in and out as life/schedule allows.

I'm really enjoying the game. I'm a bit lost on the story but that's probably due to the fact that I didn't play the first one. Doesn't really matter though because the gameplay is fun. Having people to play with makes tougher fights much more manageable. I was able to group with my friends on PS5 by finding and joining their game when interacting with the red crystal. That said, it would be great if there was also a way to send invites. Also, there doesn't seem to be in game voice chat at this time which is a bummer. Hopefully they add these features at some point. Have only encountered one bug in like 10 hours of play where I got pushed through a wall when an enemy grabbed me requiring me to log out and back in. Framerate is stable at 60fps on balanced setting. Not perfect, but having a lot of fun. No regrets on the purchase. Expand

The first remnant came out of nowhere for me. A friend suggested it, and we played it together. I was hooked and ended up Platting it. Ever since then I was looking forward to a sequel. That day is finally here!

If you played the first one and enjoyed it, then I have no doubt in my mind that you will enjoy this even more. Improved graphics and game play all around, melee is more viable than the first and the guns feel tight and varied from each other.

The introduction of new and unlockable secret archetypes is a great addition.

A lot of the dungeons feel like you're playing detective if you want to find everything in them and that is a good thing. Especially in co-op where you can work with a friend to solve the puzzles,

HUGE replayability make this one I will keep coming back to for numerous runs, as each time you spawn a game it randomizes the game so that you will face new bosses and layouts through your different playthroughs.

It does not change much gameplay wise from the first, but didn't need to as they have a great formula...

I highly recommend this game! If you can find a buddy or two to co-op it with, it makes the game even better,

    Bad-
Dynamic threat generation can go a little overboard at times. Controller settings, particularly sensitivity and deadzones, could use some more work. Some narrative bits feel awkward, and the player's constant callouts are annoying. Slight camera issues in tight spaces and a bit of jank.

    Thoughts-
Saying that Remnant 2 is more Remnant isn’t inaccurate, but it’s far from being just more of the same. Quirks and issues aside, the sequel offers so much variety, challenges, environments, features and customization while delivering a compelling, well-paced journey. Sure, it doesn’t break the mold for compelling third-person shooter action, but it’s a worthy sequel that fans will love.

    - The very first character roll is "diverse" when choosing a character
    - The first NPC you see is "diverse" female girlboss
    - The first male NPC you see is a submissive weakling
    - The VERY FIRST journal entry I found was some stupid socialist fable about two animals stuck on a raft in the ocean. The large one has a big loaf of bread and needs to keep its strength up, so it gives the tiny(really tiny) one just a bit of the bread each day. 3 days later and they reach land, but the tiny one dies. SO FKNG WHAT? Who writes this progressive diarrhea?
    - I didn't understand a single thing that was going on during the intro, except that there were 2 girlbosses doing stuff.

Gameplay is clunky as hell. I can't remap the run button to circle, there aren't even any alternative button bindings. There's not even an option to toggle auto-aim or stronger auto-aim. It's like a direct PC port with minimum effort.

DO NOT waste your money on the Deluxe. The items and gear you get are AN ABSOLUTE JOKE.

Saying this game is like Dark Souls is like saying that I'm like Serena Williams because I can swing a tennis racket.

Really, though, is it Dark Souls With Guns? Or is it just playing into hype/marketing? It has Estus Flasks. And rolling! That's basically what Dark Souls is, right? Or maybe it's because I died several times. Dying in a game makes that game Dark Souls by a technicality,

Really, though, is it Dark Souls With Guns? Or is it just playing into hype/marketing? It has Estus Flasks. And rolling! That's basically what Dark Souls is, right? Or maybe it's because I died several times. Dying in a game makes that game Dark Souls by a technicality, I think.

If you turn your head and squint, you might see some other games in there too. Is it more of a looter-shooter like Destiny? After all, guns can be found on the ground in both games. Or even in boxes. There's a young companion who banters with you, does that mean this game is the same as The Last of Us?

The first area I ended up in was 'Bloodborne Town', or as I like to call it 'Yharnam but from WIsh' (or perhaps "Mom, can we get Bloodborne?", "Son, we have Bloodborne at home"). The game itself bears a faint, superficial resemblance to Dark Souls, and following this trend this area has a shallow resemblance to Bloodborne. A couple of cobblestone streets and a few burned buildings was all it took, huh?

By inviting this comparison it really brings to light the things that Bloodborne succeeds at. World Design. By its very (procedurally-generated) nature, this game really doesn't have "World Design", which is a shame because this is what Dark Souls really excels at. Sure, there are things to explore, maybe a chest here and there, but it all rings pretty hollow. Yharnam itself is like a character in the game. Twisted cobblestone streets feed back around into each other, loop back, form random tangents, like the thoughts of a tormented mind. It's easy to get turned around. It's almost like in a dream.

I found this game difficult to navigate, but for the wrong reasons. There aren't any good vantage points to look around, it really is just a series of narrow hallways. When you can look around everything is obscured by smoke. Think about looking over the streets of Yharnam, its mottled sky, its twisted landscape of gothic architecture in full view. There is a map but it is not overly useful by nature since it is procedural. I had a hard time remembering points of interest and found myself just walking in circles on dead, empty streets trying to find things.

How integrated are the story, the worldbuilding, the themes and gameplay? Let's think about Bloodborne. You start out in the evening time, the sun is setting. Progress the game and the sun sets, casting the city in a mysterious, dark tone. New, more threatening enemies appear. As the world changes and the night progresses, the terrible dream becomes a darker and more dangerous nightmare. You can die, but even death is no escape. You return to the Hunters Dream only to be reborn again. And like your rebirth, this same night, this same hunt repeat over and over in a vicious cycle. Yharnam is bathed in blood during the long night, hunters rise to quell the beasts, the sun rises again, rinse and repeat. Seamlessly integrated themes and gameplay. Astounding!

Difficulty is another hot topic. It's kind of difficult, I guess. Maybe it's time to git gud? I don't know. It really didn't seem difficult in the ways I wanted it to be. More health and damage. Upgrade your stuff? Well, the enemies upgrade themselves too. More health and damage. Change the difficulty? Well, that's more enemy health and enemy damage. I found myself emptying entire clips into many basic enemies just to bring them down. The bosses multiply this effect. The first boss of Teemo Bloodborne seemed to have loads of health, on top of being a pretty boring encounter where I literally ran in a circle for several minutes.

If the intention was to pit this game against Dark Souls, with its world-class level design, integrated gameplay, carefully designed encounters, and tight fluid combat, I think it really falls on its face. I mean this game has some fancy textures and graphics, sure, but from a visual design point of view it is just no contest. Think about the first portion of this game compared to Elden Ring. Think about the very first time you opened the tomb doors and stepped out into the light. Think about the Erdtree, the colors, the lighting. Think about how - visually - you were drawn into the world, to see and explore every nook. All in the first 5-15 minutes!

If the intention was NOT to pit this game against Dark Souls, then it's simply a bland, uninspired world, a completely skippable plot, boring characters with inane chatter filling their dialogue trees, propped up with decent shooty gun stuff, trying to piggyback on the success of a beloved franchise.

Is there something I'm missing here? Maybe. Maybe I need to put way more hours to truly get this game. I doubt I'll try, since within the first several hours this game didn't do even 1 single thing to impress me, make me feel invested, or get me interested in the characters or the story. Put your best foot forward, I say.

It's good but I wish they leaned more into better gunplay rather than staying with the souls dodge based gameplay. Don't get me wrong it does work with fast paced games (Bloodborne is one of the best ever made) but in a third person rogouelike it falls a little flat. I would have preferred something like Returnal or Risk of Rain 2. This just gets repetitive fast.

Developer Gunfire Games returns with the more polished sequel Remnant II. Players itching for an open world of brutality can take on a randomized campaign for hours of entertainment. Like its predecessor, the plot steps away from the forefront while the gameplay does all the talking. Defend yourself and your teammates against swarms of deadwood, and other massive entities until you conquer The Root. The immersive atmosphere and quick thinking mechanics will be your best distraction this year. In all, this sequel displays Gunfire Games' efforts in listening to their fandom and polishing that feedback. Any gamer can find enjoyment and satisfaction when they tune in unaccompanied, but the real fun begins once your friends join the fight.
