Clearly a passion project for Digital Eclipse and Ubisoft, Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition is a proper celebration of the limbless platforming icon. His first adventure set the stage for what future titles would be and is still as charming today as when it was originally released 30 years ago. Any fan of Rayman will certainly want to check out this premium rerelease.

Rayman 30th Anniversary Collection shines for its historical value. Having five different versions of the first game is appreciated for its preservation, along with the tools that facilitate a less accessible experience and the extensive documentary archives. However, it may leave the feeling that the developers could have done more for one of their flagship franchises.

If you've never played the original game, I'd recommend giving it a try just to learn more about this beloved icon from the era of video game mascots. Ultimately, if you're not too bothered by the music, you might enjoy it.

Even as someone who isn’t the biggest fan of the original Rayman and its penchant for punishment, I still found a lot to love in the 30th Anniversary Edition. The many tweaks and enhancements make it the way to play the original, and the detailed documentary is a great extra on top of it all. It’s just a shame that the party is pooped a bit by the missing soundtrack and some teething problems.

Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition celebrates the past with some extras and details from the franchise's history, but forgets to polish the present, delivering a simple and flawed package in its execution, far short of the celebration Rayman really deserves.

This comprehensive 30th-anniversary celebration of Rayman delivers an invaluable digital museum, excellent emulation of multiple game versions, and a challenging yet rewarding platforming experience. However, the inexplicable decision to replace the original, iconic soundtrack with a 'reimagined' version severely detracts from an otherwise near-perfect historical preservation.

Ultimately, it's four identical games with no newly developed content, a sprinkling of bugs, and an absence of the nostalgia-inducing original soundtrack. It leaves us wishing Ubisoft had spent more time deciding which games to include in this collection, and also put more effort into refining the 30th Anniversary Edition of one of PlayStation's most iconic IPs.
