This game is a ripoff, the final product has a considerable downgrade of what they showed in the trailer, plus Sony charged 79 usd for a 6 hour long campaign! This is a bunch of bs.

I have had a hard time getting into video games recently. Im not sure what it is, but its been difficult to want to pick up the controller and play. But I recently got a ps5 and while I normally don't play platform type games ( I prefer single player story driven games like LOU and God of war and such ) I love this game just a few hours in. And it actually feels like a next gen game.

Feels almost like the controller was made specifically for this game! The story was great, loved Rivet and Kit. To top it all off, the platinum trophy is actually attainable for the casual gamer which I feel is a rarity nowadays. The new characters and places were great, as well as the story.

Only reason I rated it lower than a 9 was the fact that it was so short. I don't know exactly how long, but I got the platinum trophy in about 15-16 hours, and for a game that cost $70, it should've been longer. If you're not wowed by the graphics or a fan of the franchise/platform games, wait for the price to come down or when they eventually release it on PS Plus for free.

The game is interesting enough. Very beautiful. Shooting with tactile triggers is poorly implemented, it is very inconvenient to hold the button halfway, well, these are most likely features of a very weak dualsense resistance. The game is VERY short, paying the full cost to complete the game in 3 squats, which does not reach the full cost. I advise you to buy at discounts.

Definitely has its pros and cons like any game, but for me again Insomniac did a great job of being the og game but also something fresh and new.

now it may not be the number 1 Ratchet and Clank game for some. but I think we can all agree that it's one of the best Ratchet and Clank games (definitely in the top 3 in the series, also i believe everyone had an awesome time and laught and smiled with this game)
I also feel that they did a very good job with Rivet, you feel that she has always been part of the story and she is as lovable character as Ratchet and Clank (they're also a nice trio team!) without even feeling that Ratchet is a minor character because of Rivet...both of them had the same treatment and love as well as our "toster" Clank xD. I hope everyone had a good time with the game even with its changes :D also i think 9.2 / 10 is worth even Game of the year!

It's awesome to see that the community loved the game even with some problems here and there :)))

The planets are painfully linear and designed with very little creativity; the new "gadgets" acting as design crutches to thoughtlessly warp from point-A-to-B rather than requiring the developer to cleverly design the layout of the planets to wrap around themselves in new and interesting ways present in past releases. Think of the map differences between Dark Souls 1 and 2 for comparison.

The vast majority of weapons are re-skins of past entries which is honestly fine as most RaC weapons are fun in and of themselves, but again nothing really "new" or "innovative" here. Combat feels a little clunky and I attribute a lot of that to many enemies' homing attacks which hit with very little warning as well as the lowered camera and more "over the shoulder" view present in most modern games rather than the higher camera views that allow more viewing area. The sub-bosses are very limited; approximately three to four throughout the whole game that are re-skinned over and over. The boss fights are pretty epic and grandiose, a high point of the game for sure alongside the eye-candy of the grind rail sections which are beautiful the first time but utterly forgettable and bereft of interaction compared to previous entries.

The arena, a staple in every major Ratchet release, is painfully lacking. The puzzles start strong but fizzle over time as nothing really changes from puzzle to puzzle and no new elements are introduced. The "side missions" with the hacking robot are painfully simple and straightforward. More than anything they highlight the writers' inability to create interesting characters beyond ham-fistedly harping on their "positive qualities" until I'm sick to death of hearing them reassure themselves every four seconds. The pocket dimension challenges are anything but challenging mostly consisting of linear jaunts over a few asteroids toward an armor pickup and a rift skip back to the beginning. Same goes for the Gold Bolts, most of which sit idly in fields or just around easily-accessible corners. Exploration in this game is almost non-existent and very slimly rewarded when present.

My first playthrough lasted around 10 hours, and to be honest a huge majority of that time is spent watching cutscenes and story, which is also pretty mediocre and standard fare. Challenge mode is going to take far less time, and I honestly don't know if I'm even going to finish it.

Compared to the older titles in the series Rift Apart is a mediocre, uninspiring Ratchet entry that's worth a rent but definitely doesn't live up to the $70 price tag. Once the initial shock of the graphics wears off and people start realizing how weak this game is under the hood I expect the scores will steadily decline.

I regard the original trilogy as the best trilogy in PS history for reference, and this will be the first Ratchet and Clank game I sell after completing. This series is no longer worthy of pre-orders, and I absolutely hate that they've migrated away from innovative, fun gameplay with solid replay value in favor of graphics, set-pieces, "movie stories", and more of an instant gratification layout.

The Ratchet of old is pretty clearly dead. He deserved better.

The colors just pop on an OLED and, while I'd definitely say certain planets were much more fleshed out then others, every area just shined. The utilization of the SSD to load different parts of the levels is very obvious in certain places too and it all works extremely well. That's all the stuff that's been advertised since this game was first mentioned and its the thing that sticks out while playing it.
What those ads dont do is tell you about much else, outside of being able to play as Rivet, Ratchets female counterpart from another dimension. While the story is a fairly by the books plotline, Rivet really steals the show here. Her motivations and character development feel very realistic and Jennifer Hale does an outstanding job really showing her quirks and how she functions. She's easily the best part of the game and the game knows it. She gets alot of screen time, almost to the point where Ratchet himself is kinda pushed to the side. I dont blame them for doing so as she's a great character and I expect to see alot of her in upcoming games, maybe even getting a spin off on her own someday. Gameplay-wise there's not much new here. It's typical R&C style 3rd person over the shoulder shooter combat with not much added to it. Its fun but they clearly didnt do much to change anything up. While the weapons can be fun to use, it just feels like its going through the motions here. Nothing too memorable but its entertaining to use them.
For the first brand new, non-remake style game since the PS3, R&C is clearly going to be the PS5's best showcase as to a reason to buy the console. I wouldnt call it a system seller myself, but that's hardly a problem with how hard it still is to find one. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to show case to their friends or family as to the biggest increase from the previous generation of consoles. Plus its still a very fun game to play. It's also a very easy game to get the Platinum trophy for, running me maybe 15 hours total to 100% it for anyone who cares about that stuff.

Returning after nearly a decade to continue the story, Rift Apart fulfills the desires of both a long awaited sequel and at the same time the beginning to a whole new era for the franchise. While a new player could easily jump into this game as their first, so much of this game has been written for returning fans who want to see the unresolved plot points of the series continued. This game not only continues the journey, it pushes it to newer heights than ever before by expanding their universe into a multiverse instead.

Ratchet and Clank return as our heroes but are quickly joined by two new characters, Rivet and... well, let's just say another. At no point in this game do you ever feel like there are only 2 main characters, rather it's always 4 with the story wonderfully focusing on them all equally along the way. As you explore several planets and meet the people who live on them with a balance of space travel and supernatural, it's hard not to think of Star Wars or other space opera stories as each location is as delightful as the last. With witty dialogue, a lot of humor, and downright wholesome and emotional moments, the cast feels so wonderful to spend time with. With PS5 technology you can also feel this through all their facial expressions, which compliment the beautiful world and environments surrounding them, as well as the stunning animations. This game simply looks beautiful at every twist and turn.

Gameplay wise is also another level of perfection as each weapon was made with intention by the developers to be "someone's favorite" which makes each one feel so good to use. Mix this in with super intense boss fights, lots of fun challenges, and the levels themselves being a rush to play, and you have a game that you never want to put down because you're having too much fun. The music also reflects this by always having the perfect ambiance in each level, battle, and making each cutscene more intense.

There was no one part of Rift Apart that made this game perfection, because every piece of this game's foundation was perfect as they built it. Personally, my favorite part of this game was it's characters. Ratchet is still our hero, but Rivet gets this whole game to build her up as 'also' our hero. Emperor Nefarious is wonderful, and that's all I'll say about that to avoid spoilers. But the new characters were not the only reason the characters were my favorite; the overall character development and dialogue of this cast knocked the whole game out of the part. They have real struggles, real growth, and so many wholesome moments that are too adorable for words! This game is seriously a good feels game from beginning to end, even when things are going bad for our heroes, you always have a shining light. And usually, that light is the cast itself.

I could go on for several more paragraphs on what a perfect game Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is, but in short: Amazing story, fun to play, intense from beginning to end, fantastic (and wholesome) characters both old and new, and both the continuation and beginning of a great world. An absolute must play for all PS5 owners

Rift Apart doesn't bring a whole lot of new to the table but it does bring a whole lot of fun and that's what most of us are coming to R&C for. This is my first PS5 game so it was a whole new experience for me full of anticipation and scepticism.

Rift Apart doesn't bring a whole lot of new to the table but it does bring a whole lot of fun and that's what most of us are coming to R&C for. This is my first PS5 game so it was a whole new experience for me full of anticipation and scepticism.

The graphics are a good showcase of a next-gen step, with three options between performance and resolution. This also the drawback, however, as when I played for high-resolution the framerate really suffered and was hard to un-see, so I spent most of the game in the two performance modes. Having said that, seeing up to 60fps is a game-changer for me. Things feel so much smoother and more immersive. Since this is an early PS5 game, it will be interesting to see where things go from here. I was quite impressed with how well the fps held up when action became hectic on-screen.

The gameplay is very familiar to anyone who has played any R&C game before, for better or worse. What's new is the dimensionator that is quite well advertised. In the game however, I found this a tad gimmicky, as it functions as a glorified grapple-hook most of the time. There are times when you do shift to another dimension and the loading times for this is amazing, but these are also scripted and are still welcome as they provide a refreshing experience as previous R&C games I always felt 'stuck' on a level until I completed it.

I give the game kudos also for accessibility, especially in terms of difficulty. Even on the easier levels there can be close calls with getting killed so this makes the game very appealing to a mass audience.

What grinded my gears quite a bit were the 'mini-game' sections where you play against the virus or as Clank navigating three consecutive puzzles. Doing this once is fine because it's a break from the otherwise hectic action, but I ended up skipping Clank's final puzzles (again thank you for accessibility!) as they were very tedious and irritating - basically a 2021 version of Lemmings.

It wouldn't be R&C without the crazy guns, and here there were more than enough to keep me occupied, and levelling them up is a great mechanic to encourage me to use a variety. The Warmonger was probably my favourite due to its sheer power.

One very annoying thing I did notice is that when you get hit there is a stun animation which feels like it lasts forever in-game, really disrupting the flow of combat. I found this really irritating but I suppose there needs to be some consequence for getting hit, and the jetpack boots help make traversal more enjoyable.

The story of R&C finally takes a step outside the box here. While Rivet is almost identical to Ratchet, I still found it refreshing to hear different voice actors. I've always enjoyed the camp humour of R&C and Rift Apart is no exception. The game gives you a coherent story with purpose, motivation and payoff, ticking all the right boxes. Whilst having different versions of the same characters seems repetitive and cheap, it also prevents the game from overloading us with endless forgettable characters, although I was a tad disappointed to miss out on the plumber this time.

I think the game deserves special credit for not padding itself out with filler content. This wasn't the longest adventure, but it also wasn't one that bored me with grinding or endless fetch-quests.

Overall, Rift Apart doesn't actually bring much new to the table but what it does right, it does very well. Despite some very familiar game mechanics and cardinal sins of gaming such as colour palette changes, the game actually manages to be engaging and enjoyable. Everything I love about R&C is here, although the price is something I do not like at all.

    Cons:
    - no replayablitity because at least half of screentime is cinematics
    - poor planet count - basically no challenge mode (bronze cup on first playthrough is harder than this mode) - expensive (75$+500$ console) - only like 3 different boss models - boss designs were either non existent or almost fully scripted - some weapon combinations stronger and others are simply weak

    - some weapon combinations stronger and others are simply weak themself and barely replace melee (razor blades, knockback shield,..)
    - lot of missed opportunities like oldschool "disguise" passages on the decorateur or prison scene. Another opportunity to add would be a hoverboot tourney/obstacle course
    - minigame/puzzles felt irrelevant and weak for the r&c series
    - no sandbox
    - no vehicles / no well known spaceship customization
    - no co-op
    - smaller issues with clipping/falling
    - no online
    - no real secondary questing / planet exploring
    - no custom lobbies
    - difficulties to chose: easy - easy - easy or easy
    - weapons too strong, too easy to level and too much ammo (easy addition could be to make certain enemies more vulnerable to certain weapons)
    - no actual challenge runs (specfic weapons, no raritarium,...)
    Pros:
    + astonishing story and cinematics
+ almost as perfect use of dual sense as astrobot
    + graphics/performance balanced perfectly
+ good audio with alot of humor and gimmicky lines
+ cool hoverboot concept as the only real extension to a not existent sandbox - also broke all maps/made them rather irrelevant in design appeal
+ good characters, kit and rivet fit the unverse really well
    + nice controls
    + really well made UI/UX
    + really lovable photo mode
+ cinematic presentation and interesting settings
+ weapon upgrades had some good twists and features
    + lovable worlds and creatures

+ good base with room for "game service" updates that would justify 75$ (planets, challenge runs with awards on save file or in rivets hideout, multiplayer, horde arenas, another boss design to make it at least 2 bosses,... so much potential to justify 75$)

    Resulting:

10/10 first playthrough when you want a casual experience
    - make it 9/10 because the price tag

7.8/10 up to 8.1/10 in total considering you want a video game and not a 75$ movie with potential to 10/10 when introduing i.e. a "game as a service" 2-year-roadmap.

Now the biggest thing that I was impressed was how quickly from you select the game to actually getting into the game, it's only like 20seconds or less. That's impressive. But shouldn't the actual gameplay be the most impressive thing? Rift Apart is good, but there's a lot of things that don't deserve this to be a 10/10. I'll go over the pros first, then the cons.
    Pros:
Fast load times and seamless transitions between travel to planets and cutscenes. Definitely the best out of the franchise in this regard.
Graphics are top notch and the colors just pop, I played on the setting that the game recommends, which focuses on visual, and locks fps to 30, but I didn't really notice FPS issues. Recommend fidelity setting first then go to performance rt if you are wanting to do a second playthrough
The new characters Rivet and Kit are generally well-written, designed well, and likable. This is important since they get a lot of screen time, and Rivet is in the game more than Ratchet from what it felt like when playing the game. Definitely could see a rivet and kit spinoff
Combat is great, it's expected from this franchise
Villains are entertaining and tough, dealing with TWO nefariouses is a nice twist.

    Cons
Ran into quite a few glitches, funny enough even one with the character Glitch haha. Had to close the game and reload. Some with the weapon wheel not working, some with just running into something like a wall made me drop to zero health. Nothing too major, but noticeable enough and some users have had gamebreaking glitches.
Weapons are not unique enough. I wasn't really impressed and didn't feel like they pushed the PS5 to the limit. There could of been some melee weapons to buy, or something like you summon hazards using rifts that are scattered around.
Mini boss fights.... this is my biggest issue with the game. It's the same repetitive enemies. same nerfarious enforcer that you fight several times, or a pirate version that you fight several times. it's lazy. overall enemy variety isn't that good. it's either nefarious minions, goons minions, or robot pirates....
Arena challenges are not as good compared to other entries in this franchise. They could of done a lot more with this.
Ratchet and Rivet pretty much work exactly the same... I personally was hoping for some more variety, like for example rivet only gets certain weapons for her! That would of made it even more fun, instead it just feels like a ratchet clone.

    Other Thoughts

The gameplay isn't too bad, i got over 10hrs of gameplay, didn't 100% the game. Not all games need to be 100hrs length. Is it worth full price? If you're a huge fan like me then yes, but if not I would recommend waiting for a sale then due to gameplay length. I do think this is a good entry and there's a lot of promise for the future for this franchise. However, I do want the developers to try to take more risks or be even more creative.

    Overall, it's a 8/10 for me.

Ratchet and Clank's return for the PlayStation 5 falls flat across the board for it's filler story, repetitive gameplay, and bland characters. Rift Apart sees the iconic duo at their blandest yet, with all character traits that made them what they are stripped away. These characters are hardly recognizable from their earlier works, finding themselves more reminiscent of their 2016 movie counterparts. The Gameplay this time around has some new bells and whistles, but isn't enough to save itself from it's own laziness and mediocrity. While this game marks a first time in the main-series that Ratchet has to share the spotlight with another gun-toting hero, Insomniac takes the easy/lazy road by having both Ratchet and new character, Rivet, play identically. Both share the same weapons, gadgets, upgrades, and even ammo count, with very little rhyme or reason. However, despite the fact that they play identically at all times, the game does not allow Ratchet and Rivet to explore areas the other character traversed during the story, even though their is no reason for that either. Many planets and almost all the enemies are ripped straight from previous entries, and while this game boasts the most new weapons a game in the series has had in over a decade, many of weapons are reskins of each other. 3 blaster type weapons and 3 shotgun type weapons, in addition to several weapons that just act on their own with no input required from the player, and you have an arsenal that appears plentiful on the surface, but is shallow in actuality. It surprises me that this game has received the praise it has, which may be due to the low amount of new titles available on next generation consoles. This game may need to be reevaluated after more interesting titles have made their way to the PlayStation 5. For now, while their may not be many options for new PlayStation 5 owners, for $70 Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is not worth it's next generation price tag, and should be avoided for those over the age of 12. Let’s start with the graphics. Similar to Returnal, there is a lot happening on screen. Environments are dense with characters and particles. It really makes the worlds that you visit come alive. Each planet is unique in its art style as well, so you always treated to different experience. Character is detail is astounding for a game that has released so early in the next generation development cycle. Ratchet, Rivet, Kit and Clank are all extremely detailed. You could easily mistake this for an animated series! I platinum trophied this game on the 4K fidelity settings. Many gamers now scoff at 30 FPS, but for the added bump in visuals it was worth it. Which ties into performance…

Overall, I didn’t notice any slowdowns. There are some huge battles in this game, but even at 30 FPS they all played out perfectly. Really not much to say, it runs brilliantly.

Gameplay wise, I found it super enjoyable. The shooting mechanisms are great and I really love the use of the Dualsense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Each weapon has been designed to be unique so you have so much choice at the end to tailor your style. Sometimes I found myself stumping on the jumping mechanisms - particularly double jump. This was mostly due to the hover ability being used for X as well, but once you get used to it mistakes went to a minimum.

Story was fantastic. It was uplifting and fun. It may not be as deep as other games, but it doesn’t need to be. The added graphics really makes you appreciate the cinematic scenes more than ever and it draws you in. The ending was very satisfying; it had some really nice touches, but you’ll just have to play it to find out!

Overall, I loved it. Yes £70 is quite expensive for a game, but in this case I thought it was totally worth it. It’s a brilliant example of what the PS5 is capable of and it’s a captivating story. I wish it could have been longer, but only because I didn’t want to finish it. There is a new game plus for those looking for replay ability. The developers Insomniac have done a fantastic job and I hope we get to see Ratchet and the team in future sequels.

In terms of gameplay, its not all half bad but does leave something to be desired for those of us seeking a more challenging experience. Even at higher difficulty levels, the game doesnt really present us with any real challenges. This could have been easily solved for example by making certain enemies more vulnerable to certain weapons, as was demonstrated masterfully in Doom eternal. Additionally, some of the controls are a bit cumbersome and there isnt much room for vastly customising them to help make switching between dash, etc more smoothly.

The set pieces and level design are done quiet well, and when i consider the game as a whole I understand it s target audience may not necessarily be interested in razor edge death combat, and thats fine. While it might not wholly be to be liking, I am still happy that this game came out and has something to offer for everyone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such an amazing game, I platinumed it three days ago, and I keep thinking about going back and replaying it again and again, I never felt that way before, and its such a beautiful game, probably the most beautiful on PS5 so far, the ray-tracing is spectacular, voice acting and animations are superb, and combat and weapons are incredibly fun.

The only reason I didn't score this at 10 are because of these slight gripes I had with the game:

    - Enemies are not varied enough, mostly same robots (they're more varied later on, but look essentially the same) and Thugs-4-Less guys from beginning of game, mini-bosses also get repeated a bunch with no difference (juggernauts) or minimal difference like the pirate juggernauts but they have too similar of move sets (stomp then beam, rinse and repeat).

    - Omega weapons were disappointing, thought there would be a big difference between level 5 and Omega, but the difference is just in power, no cool effects added as far as I know.

    - Protagonists repeat dialogue too often, I don't need to have Clank and Rivet say the same story lines over and over again just because I temporarily exit and come back to a place when its needed, like in Arena (from Arena to vendor and back), and I don't need Clank or Ratchet to constantly remind me that I got to go to the mission points when I just want to explore first, it gets annoying.

    - UI and game explanations need slight improvement, like show that you can buy all upgrades for a weapon by pressing triangle from the weapon selection menu of Upgrades, and it should be explained that the more damage you do with a weapon, the faster it levels (tested with Ice and Topiary).

This is definitely the best Ratchet and Clank game though, and I absolutely loved jetting around with the jet boots, I really hope they're in the next installment, and I can't wait for more!

Next, Rivet, while she is not terrible as a character, she is basically Ratchet but better in every way. What I mean is while they destroyed Ratchet, they made Rivet take the crown as the main character of the game, which she is without a doubt. I mean, we play her over 60% of the game, and you can't even do the arena with Ratchet.

To me this game is like Star Wars 7: a big middle finger to all time fans. It's all shiny and good looking, but that's not what makes a movie or a game great. If you're looking for game for your 10 years old, grab an old PS3 and get the Ratchet and Clank collection. It's cheaper and better.

    - Extemely varied locations that encourage and reward exploration
    - Varied, inventive arsenal of appropriate themed weaponry
    - PS5 SSD allows for an entire gameworld to instantaniously change from one state to another (honestly shocking the first time it happens) or transport a charcater between completely different locations with no loading.
    - Story focuses on Ratchet and Rivet equally, developing/elevating both chracters without having to degrade either
    - Ridiculous attention to details (lighting, animation, voice overs, texture work, even hairs blowing in the breeze)
    - You can spend an embarrasing amount of time in the photo mode with all the options
    - DualSense implimentation is FLAWLESS and is by far the best example of how game changing Sony's new controller is with its haptic technology.

    CONS:
    - I miss the Disco grenade and the "Pixelate" gun from the remake.

This is a system seller, easily 10/10 on every front. This is the game (for now) that you show off to your gaming friends who don't have a PS5 yet (sorry guys).

The gameplay is as close to perfect as you can get and the visual presentation is so good that people who don't know better will think you're watching a movie. Absolute must have.

The most buitiful game i ever played. It looks like pixar cartoon. The leight of the game is about 12-15 hours and i think its optimal for that genre. The price could be a little lower i think, but its a top game.

What a fantastic game. I've never played a ratchet and clank game before rift apart, but oh boy was I surprised how much I ended up enjoying this game. This game has the perfect level of difficulty on the hardest level. I actually ended up getting all of the collectables in this game and that's something I rarely do. The level design is also absolutely fantastic.

After 100%ing the game I can say without a doubt that it is not worth the price, for 70 dollars you get a 20 hour experience that is extremely repetitive, I would wait for a sale.

Also kommen wir zum Fazit, Ratched and Clank Rift Apart ist ein sehr gutes Spiel, was man sich Mal anschauen sollte Expand

Finally a true PS5 games and it show. The games is not a revolution but make the genre look better then ever. If your a fan of this franchise this games is a must. Story line is longer then previous game of the franchise and dual sense is well used. Worth buying it full price

I Played every Ratchet and Clank and this one is truly remarkable. It feels really nextgen with its rifts. It also is a really cool continuation of the future series (tools of destruction and a crack in time), so the best ones in the whole franchise.

One of the first real reasons to buy PS5. This intergalactic adventure of famous series is full of great gameplay, inventive game design, gripping story, and great characters. It's a game for everyone who owns PS5. Actually, it’s a game for everyone.

What’s so good about this installment of Ratchet and Clank is that it is a true labor of love. There is no other way a game can feel so good, play so well, and take you on an impressive adventure all without that special ingredient to keep it going. The definition of a next-gen title, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a must-play that will leave you super satisfied and hungry for another big game like this one.

The experience is so captivating, you’ll probably want to blast through the entire 10-15 hour story in one go. But the final is really disappointing: basically, the entire game is just a warm-up, while the important events will happen in the next one. [Issue#254, p.36]
