As it is, Maneater is still a fairly fun game if roleplaying as an aquatic killing machine is your thing, FPS dips and all… I just wish that my brain would stop playing that damn Nelly Furtado song of the same name over and over every time I settle in for a quick sharky session, especially as the OTHER “Maneater” song by Hall & Oates is a much better fit contextually.

The new features are welcome, and the game definitely looks nicer, but apart from that, it’s the same experience. If you had your fill of the title on the PS4, there’s not a whole lot to come back for. However, if you’re just diving into the game now, this is the version you want.

"Maneater" is a true evil genre in the game industry. But it's just like most B movies, bloody scenes and repetitive shots will inevitably make people bored.

It’s like a delicious desert after your main course: it doesn’t contain nutrition but it tastes great. It’s a little like GTA “lite” but with sea life. You can stick to your main “quest” or you can go off on a rampage, attacking anything that breathes. Wreaking havoc around the beaches is a blast.

It took 30 minutes for me to really get the hang of the controls but the game starts with a good tutorial. Considering that you swim in a 360 degree world, the controls work real well once you get the hang of it.

To be honest I’ve always wanted a game like this and boy did it hit the spot. If you’ve watched some video about it on YouTube then it’s basically exactly what it appears to be. It was a bit deeper than I was expecting, it has some mild RPG elements regarding it’s “level up” scheme. You can “evolve” your shark, grinding to build it up to become a super scary mutant shark.

Playing as a shark, you have no conversational interaction with anyone/anything - everything is conveyed by reports "about you".

While reality is in short supply, in the game, fun is definitely there in large amounts. All enemies have a static level of power, that doesn't adjust to the player's level/abilities. Therefore, the difficulty, of the game, is a bit askew - as it seems to balance around a player who doesn't do a single side quest. If you do - then you'll find yourself really overpowered as the game goes on. So, the main challenge is definitely early in the game. Late game, everything can feel rather easy.

The controls are pretty easy to learn, but there are some combinations, that you can put together, that can give you the edge in combat, or can allow you to reach secret places. While it's easy to find most of the collectables, ingame, some will have you scratching your head - which adds a nice puzzle aspect to the game!

Visually, the game is great. Strong, almost cartoony, colours and the graphics are really nicely put together. The game can suffer from a few frame rate drops, at times, but these are, relatively, few on the PS5.

The game's pacing is pretty good. You can complete this game, with a full platinum, within 10-12 hours of play and no trophy can be considered as "difficult". It doesn't have a lot of replayability, as it's not like you can go back and do things differently, and there's not much to entertain you after finishing everything.

Overall, Maneater was a really fun experience - even better that it was free on PS Plus!

Short game, but fun. Good comedic factor, good controls. Probably wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks for it. Easy easy platinum.

The gameplay is also good, nothing special, but sometimes in the fight the camera can be annoying.
With good graphics and an easy platinum, somewhere around 10 hours, Maneater is cool at the beginning and a little cloying in the middle.

It's wonky, jumps a lot and since a lot of what you do as a shark, is fight. Is frankly terrible.

I don't think the game was quality tested or played before they released this mess.

It's fun attacking people. That's it, that's the 1 point it has going for it.. nothing else. The developer should be ashamed for even making this...

This game makes duke nukem's latest outing look like Shakespeare.

if you are going to play it be made aware you will lose resources for no reason and sometimes your level will decline even though you haven't died just fast travelled. It doesn't quite save right either.

It's just full of bugs, feels half finished and is terrible
