A pandemic which causes strong fevers, terrible delirium and death has relentlessly decimated the inhabitants of the archipelago. Rumor has it that a prestigious red wine produced in the capital can cure the sick.

You are Marti Vermello. In a desperate attempt to cure the infection of your loved ones, you steal a boat and head to the winery where the red wine is made, somewhere in the capital.

A cold smell of death, calm and silence comes over your body when you arrive at the dock. They sealed off the infected families in their own homes without food or water but even then the quarantine didn't work.

There is no one left alive

    so it seems.

Explore a post-pandemic fictional Mediterranean island and confront your fears! Immerse yourself in a seemingly abandoned city and struggle to find a precious Banydebosc red wine bottle to cure your loved ones. But be aware; your Nemesis is watching you.

The first game to released as part of the Horror Tales Saga, Horror Tales: The Wine isn’t likely to wow anyone. It is a solid effort though, and one that horror fans should definitely consider checking out if they want a short and sweet experience to occupy an evening. While its presentation leaves a little to be desired and its puzzles eventually become a tad samey, it tells a chilling story and backs it up with some genuinely hair-raising scenarios.

    Horror Tales: The Wine
    Its alright
Horror Tales The Wine is a 3 hour long first person horror game, there a pandemic happening and to save your family you need this wine, so you go to the one place you think will surely have some to get its final closed bottle… this sets you off on a creepy adventure, going through cellars, and matching symbols, ocassionally getting chased by some headless dude.. that’s it.. that’s the game, crawl through tight spaces, get to a door that requires you to find symbols and turn the dials until they match to move on..
I enjoyed the level design here, its all fairly linear and easy to get through, I never felt lost.. somemoments would stump me but id eventually find a hole to crawl through, my issue with horror tales the wine though all comes down to the lighting, this game iwas way to dark with no settings to adjust th brightness, its hard to see what youre doing, where youre going which is annoying enough in a game all about finding and matching symbols,, but its made worse when you have an enemy chasing you through dark halways, trapping you in corners, and you cant do anything about it, thre are no hidings spots, youre just running in circles, trying to interact with these puzzles, and the enemy just odesnt stop, constantly chasing and slashing you.. you eventually get a flashlight, but it goes bad so quickly but recharges so quickly that its almost as if letting it flicker at all was unnecessary, just take it away from me with the story when you don’t want me having it anymore, but for the time being just let me have it, let me have my moments of being able to see.. its just annoying….
Overal though you can tell a lot of care and effort went into crafting this game, it all comes together in such a great way, I love when puzzles bring you back instead of you bck tracking, that’s this entire game.. its just theres nothing great here to see, theres no great experience built around the great level design, the world, the story, its all mediocre, theres nothing special here making the wine a must play..
I give Horror Tales: The Wine
    a 5.5/10

I wanted to like this game, I really did. It's a great puzzle game that reminds me of MYST, and the scary elements and jump-scares are there. But it doesn't combine them well. The graphics aren't optimized well for Switch so there were times items had trouble loading, and once or twice the photo-mode clipped outside the map and I was able to see upcoming areas. Horror Tales also needed music. There was one sequence where there was a phonograph playing, and the song was actually pretty good. i feel like it needed more music like that. There also needed to be more "show" and less "tell" - there were a lot of text descriptions of events that should have been communicated by a cinematic, or some spoken dialog. This may sound picky, but there was more than one instance of text that had spelling errors that should have been caught by QA. - I'm VERY sure this game would be better played on PC, but the Switch port gets a 5.

I enjoyed a few of the 'trick of the eye' jump-scares, but a few of the walking-sim style battles became more annoying than scary. I never completed the game. Expand

But it's also hollow and very, very repetitive. It's basically a walking simulator where you have to run away from the only enemy in the game and remember symbols to open doors. That's it. Sure, the story is intruiging but it doesn't make up for the annoying and repetitive gameplay. Since this is supposed to be a horror game I was very disappointed that the only horror element is a headless wonky dude running after you which get's boring after the second time. After watching the trailer I expected there to be more puzzles but like I said, the only puzzles you encounter are remembering symbols for those damned doors. I think the game would have been good with a bigger variety in the gameplay, maybe if it relied more heavily on the story it would make up for being so boring. Hard pass for me! Expand
