I enjoyed the level design here, its all fairly linear and easy to get through, I never felt lost.. somemoments would stump me but id eventually find a hole to crawl through, my issue with horror tales the wine though all comes down to the lighting, this game iwas way to dark with no settings to adjust th brightness, its hard to see what youre doing, where youre going which is annoying enough in a game all about finding and matching symbols,, but its made worse when you have an enemy chasing you through dark halways, trapping you in corners, and you cant do anything about it, thre are no hidings spots, youre just running in circles, trying to interact with these puzzles, and the enemy just odesnt stop, constantly chasing and slashing you.. you eventually get a flashlight, but it goes bad so quickly but recharges so quickly that its almost as if letting it flicker at all was unnecessary, just take it away from me with the story when you don’t want me having it anymore, but for the time being just let me have it, let me have my moments of being able to see.. its just annoying….
Overal though you can tell a lot of care and effort went into crafting this game, it all comes together in such a great way, I love when puzzles bring you back instead of you bck tracking, that’s this entire game.. its just theres nothing great here to see, theres no great experience built around the great level design, the world, the story, its all mediocre, theres nothing special here making the wine a must play..
I give Horror Tales: The Wine
    a 5.5/10

My review is mixed, because I have mixed feelings. I wanted to like this game, I really did. It's a great puzzle game that reminds me of MYST, and the scary elements and jump-scares are there. The graphics aren't optimized well for Switch so there were times items had trouble loading, and once or twice the photo-mode clipped outside the map and I was able to see upcoming areas. Horror Tales also needed music. There was one sequence where there was a phonograph playing, and the song was actually pretty good. i feel like it needed more music like that. There also needed to be more "show" and less "tell" - there were a lot of text descriptions of events that should have been communicated by a cinematic, or some spoken dialog. This may sound picky, but there was more than one instance of text that had spelling errors that should have been caught by QA. - I'm VERY sure this game would be better played on PC, but the Switch port gets a 5.

The first game to released as part of the Horror Tales Saga, Horror Tales: The Wine isn’t likely to wow anyone. It is a solid effort though, and one that horror fans should definitely consider checking out if they want a short and sweet experience to occupy an evening. While its presentation leaves a little to be desired and its puzzles eventually become a tad samey, it tells a chilling story and backs it up with some genuinely hair-raising scenarios.
