The first game to released as part of the Horror Tales Saga, Horror Tales: The Wine isn’t likely to wow anyone. It is a solid effort though, and one that horror fans should definitely consider checking out if they want a short and sweet experience to occupy an evening. While its presentation leaves a little to be desired and its puzzles eventually become a tad samey, it tells a chilling story and backs it up with some genuinely hair-raising scenarios.

But it's also hollow and very, very repetitive. It's basically a walking simulator where you have to run away from the only enemy in the game and remember symbols to open doors. That's it. Sure, the story is intruiging but it doesn't make up for the annoying and repetitive gameplay. Since this is supposed to be a horror game I was very disappointed that the only horror element is a headless wonky dude running after you which get's boring after the second time. After watching the trailer I expected there to be more puzzles but like I said, the only puzzles you encounter are remembering symbols for those damned doors. I think the game would have been good with a bigger variety in the gameplay, maybe if it relied more heavily on the story it would make up for being so boring. Hard pass for me! Full Review »

I enjoyed a few of the 'trick of the eye' jump-scares, but a few of the walking-sim style battles became more annoying than scary. I never completed the game. Full Review »
