Being a QA (end user) game tester as well as an expert on Norse Mythology, the superbly written game as told from the "other side" is nothing short of a masterwork in storytelling. Those who are review bombing it are at best dimwitted and at worst, uninformed neckbeards residing in their parents basement with their eyesight sorely damaged by their frequent self-gratification.

Angrboda is insufferable and the section with her is extremely drawn out and unplayable. Ruined the game for me.

Exploration when getting all the collectibles was a little tricky at times but the accessibility settings allowed me to use the R3 button which helped me most of the time to get to the general area where i needed to be. I had no problem with the over the shoulder camera. I didn't mind the slightly long animations for small actions. I thought the RPG elements were good. I enjoyed the soundtrack. I didn't enjoy the Loki sections and using him for combat as much as I did when playing as Kratos. It was a nice little breather from using Kratos though. The side companions are pretty helpful. Freya is the favourite companion. I still have a few things to do finish it 100%. I give God Of War Ragnarok 9 out of 10. Expand

This game is now my favorite game… up there with RDR2 & Witcher 3. This story is soo beautifully written. Being a father myself, there are many parts of the story that I can sincerely relate to Kratos. I’ve also played every GOW game and seeing the progression of Kratos from a bloodthirsty monster in the 1st game to a protective father trying to do the right thing, is truly remarkable. This game is now my favorite game… up there with RDR2 & Witcher 3. This game is what a sequel is supposed to be, it is everything the first game, of the recent series, is and more. The combat has seen a huge upgrade both with the addition of new combat styles and the perfection of old ones, but it still has the same feeling as the first game. The story is fantastic, so many sequels just seem like fan-fare in an attempt to make the same game twice, while this game is not only a continuation, but an expansion on not only the characters but the universe as well. The characters evolve right before your eyes. It's clear Santa Monica Studios took the approach of making the story just as important as the game play, it's not often a game has side quests that can take up an entire play session and leave you feeling satisfied, both with the fun you had and the new stuff you've learned about the world. It's too often that games are littered with side quests that are designed to fill time, provide what's essentially a visual novel, or simply to provide more combat .

I feel that the negative reviews of this game are from people who just don't care for the God of War universe, which is fine no game is for everyone, or from people who expected this game to be your stereotypical AAA title and jumped right in with no knowledge, or game play, of the preceding titles. This game isn't for everyone, it isn't an anime, it isn't a story about a "traditional man", it's not even an rpg. Honestly, if those are the things you need in a game, look away and do some research into games before you decide to buy it and ACT like it's a bad game. Otherwise if you are a newcomer looking at the game because it is a very popular title and are interested in trying it, I would recommend to play through the whole series as I have, but I don't think you would be doing the series a disservice if you watched a recap of 1 through 3 and started at the 2016 title, I'm sure you could get it cheap.

I truly think this title deserves GOTY. For some context, I've tried all of the goty nominees, except a Plague Tale, so I can't speak for that game. I think sonic is awesome and I think it's the best "platformer" on the market as of right now, but at times it feels like a tech demo so to speak. I felt Horizon was kind of empty and lacked a cohesive story which didn't really live up to the first, while being too riddled with meaningless side quests AND characters, but I do think the combat, main story quests, world design, and most importantly the graphics are phenomenal. Stray is tied for my indie GOTY, alongside Vampire Survivors, but the two are by no means comparable. I enjoyed Xenoblade, although didn't finsh it, I just felt it was too limited by the switch hardware and It was just too long for me to finish up. Lastly, Elden Ring. I'm someone who has waited for Elden Ring since the rumors of George RR Martin collaborating with FromSoftware first surfaced, I've played and beaten every "Souls" game at least 2 times through. I got every trophy in Elden and absolutely loved it. Elden Ring will forever be one of my favorite games, but some part of me knows that God of War is the definitive example of a triple A title/sequel and I think it should be the precedent going forward.

This is an amazing follow-up to an excellent game. Ragnarök improves upon most aspects of its predecessor, and weaves a great story that defied the expectations that i had. I'm not a fan of teen angst, but every time i dreaded it, they took an unexpected turn. Major kudos, my GOTY for 2022.

The combats of the game are designed in the best way and in the most balanced way and have so many details that they do not feel repetitive for a very long time.

I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]

Thanks to an amazing cast that’s doing an outstanding job, a compelling story told through the eyes of multiple characters, and top-notch combat, this epic and heartfelt journey strikes all the right chord. It’s impossible not to recommend God of War Ragnarok, but just in case you had any doubts, I strongly advise anyone mildly interested in gaming to play Santa Monica Studio’s latest masterpiece.
