But the worst sin made by this Final Fantasy 16 is, copy game of thrones badly, just for the sake of the rating.
There's multiple ways to create a serious plot for a story, but here in FF16 it feels all artificial and not engaging at all.
It's like you see some of the most predictable scene of a movie, and you are just there for see if the plot move in other ways, but it don't.
For a game like this that point mostly on his story, build a predictable and generic plot made the whole things just pointless to follow, especially when you see how the whole plot fells flat and that doesn't evolve.
In conclusion, this game trade the Final Fantasy feelings for build something to attract new audience with a budget DMC clone gameplay and a bunch of game of thrones stuff putted together with the glue, and obtaining a terrible mix
    An heavily disappointing experience

The game has incredible graphics, but the mechanics are shallow and poor for a Final Fantasy game. Some battles are longer than necessary and make the game repetitive. The world of this Final Fantasy is beautiful, however, it’s so empty. So, I regret buying it.

Nothing in this beyond terrible game is well-made.
Combat is designed for people who never played games, same goes fo enemies. Story starts great but with every hour turns into some mediocre mess that is written by some clueless student. Boruto has better character development than this snoozefest, it's insane how bad it is. Music is the only bright side

It shines in it's music and visuals and EXCELLENT story-telling. Even the cast and characters are well done but the game feels like an empty shell. The towns look good on the outside but there is no interiors to the buildings. There is nothing there to explore. The world has no exploration. I love that they didn't go ''open-world". I was so relieved about it, it was a great decision. However, there's also a fine balance of mystery which is completely lacking from the world. There is no exploration because the world is simply a shell to progress the story. It lacks substance. Do you remember Final Fantasy 7's overworld and sense of mystery? Forget that. There's no ''extratowns'' which are there for you to uncover a mystery, find new camarades to adventure with. All this game does right is 1) Story-telling 2) Voice acting 3)Music 4)Ambiance of old-school final fantasy. That's amazing but that's also only 50-60% of a masterpiece. You are still left with frenetic combat with too many spell particles, no depth at all. It's just not satisfying and becomes boring fast. I promise you after 15-20 hours, you will be sick of the combat. Final fantasy 16 is a great 10 hour experience until you realize that it's not bringing you to the next-level. Your anticipations are crushed. You realize all you are going to do is try to mindnumbingly go through from A to B just so you can see the story unfold in it's greatness but sadly that's not enough. It only temporarily or momentarily capture the ''magic'' of Final fantasy 7,8,9,10 but very short-lived and I really think they nailed 60% of it and did a 10/10 job on those(such as story-telling)...but everything else is just there as a shell. It's sadly so boring I am contemplating skipping everything now. I don't find the repetitive combat any fun anymore. I just want to hear the story it has to tell...I'm considering using youtube for all that. That's what Final Fantasy 16 is for me. I regret spending 103$ canadian for it. I wish I was more patient , that's just too much money but I wanted to support the publisher to tell them they were going in the right direction. Sadly, being in the right direction doesn't mean much when 50% of your game lacking the greatness that was at hand. They needed to build DEEPER story intertwind with DEEPER cities, overworld , MORE MYSTERIES.
Why they cannot recreate the epicness of Final fantasy 7,8,9 ? It's not just the mediocre combat either. There's something substantial missing about the world exploration....and no I don't mean useless fetch-quests or tedious side-quests that waste your time for hours like most open worlds do(which it avoided)...We needed a spaceship and a world that opens to you which have their own cast of characters to ''find''(Remember FF7? NO not the re-make for Gen-Z adhd).

Exploration is pointless because the vast world only exists for you to fight the same small roster of enemies over and over again, so they can drop 2 gil and crafting ingredients for a crafting system you'll NEVER use once. There's no gear loot to really speak of, no minigames, superbosses or collectables. The world is one big barren content wasteland, you're not going to be stumbling into any secrets, dungeons or fun diversions here, just crafting ingredients as far as the eye can see. Elemental affinities are gone, as are status ailments, oh, and magic only exists in the form of a single reskinned projectile depending on your Eikon flavour of choice. No party system either, just a couple of NPCs and a dog that follow you around silently. You'll forget they're even there. Story "high points" are always followed up by hours of mind-numbing busywork for poorly animated NPCs who task Clive with bread deliveries and menial labour. The sidequests are honestly terrible, like they're something out of 2009, and even if there WAS interesting lore behind them, you're going to be too uninterested to care/notice because of the terrible presentation and coma-inducing dialogue. The discount DmC combat is fun at first but grows very routine since you just demolish enemies 24/7 with no effort whatsoever. You can string together endless combos and for your efforts maybe you'll be rewarded with a 5% exp boost and fractionally more crafting ingredients than normal.

It's pretty much Linear as much as that, we have pretty much the same sequence exploited. Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene, Fight. Exploration is bare bones not to say empty world. The Dungeons another negative note
The secondaries are all fetch quests on a positive note they are well written, they improve your knowledge of the world they have created. It doesn't give you much incentive to go out fighting due to the lack of experience they give you and on top of that the rewards are mostly all useless.
There is a lack of minigames

The game does not run as smoothly as you would expect for a new gen game, however, I didn't feel that took away any value when it came to the thrilling gameplay, great plot and AMAZING soundtrack.
As a side note, if you are a fan of "epic" visuals and soundtrack, you will LOVE this game, no doubts.

It miss all the RPG components, and there is no effective magic in this game, no parameters. Is too linear, even the crafting is linear as hell and so basic. This game has good particles system, good combat system, good boos fights and a great story and technically it is good but this is by no means enough if compared to the best Final Fantasy games. I feel to much laziness in some comparts of the game and in my opinion the graphic of the 15th is even more enjoyable. Even if the 15th (in the windows edition) with all its flaws in my opinion is more FF and more funny than the 16th chapter. Im not satisfied considering the hype. Expand

The story is compelling, graphics are amazing, and combat is engaging. it'll keep you on your seat through the whole game. The only negative for me was that I wish it could've elaborated on the backstory of some of the characters, so I wish it was twice as longer. Giving it a 10 to cancel out the 0s. Expand

Bummed about this one. I was wowed by the demo but I deleted the game from my library at the 30 hour mark. Poorly animated dialog sequences that's cringe worthy when it attempts to be edgy. Motion blur that made me feel nauseous and the gameplay grew to be a repetitive chore past the 20 hour mark.

For all the hype around the DMC combat designer the combat is not good enough and doesn't go deep enough to be enjoyable. The combat just doesn't go deep enough and offer enough.

Enemies are either too easy (normal mobs) or boring (too much health but no challenge).

The same few monster types repeat over and over and over.

The world is... empty? Like it's FF13 all over again. Sure there are huge areas but they have no purpose. There is nothing to discorver, hardly anything to do. If you are lucky there is a treasure chest somewhere which 99% of the time alone contain crap mats you already have 1000s of.

All side quests are kill x or collect flowers and 99% of them don't tell an interesting story.

The crafting system is a joke. Every few chapters you get the newest items, no farming needed ever if you have been killing monsters (besides the 3 best items in the game, which are also more or less handed to you).

The world as such and the people in it are mostly a..holes. There is no nuance. Everybody either helps "Cid" or is against you. It's all black and white.

The graphics are nice but too close to FF XIV, same goes for their overall design and aesthetic. That's of course personal taste but I hate it.

I will stop here but I definitely feel this game has a lot of issues and flaws and doesn't deserve the high rating it received. It's not bad but it's definitely not great.

There is of course some great stuff in this game. The story at points is awesome. Graphics are mostly good. The soundtrack is amazing. Some boss fights are insane (but way tooo long).

However for every high and Woah! that was insane there are such deep lows... when i finished the game I was more annoyed and happy to be done with it more than anything else.

I absolutely loved my 68 hours spent with FFXVI. I was skeptical at first because, honestly, it looked nothing like I hoped a new mainline Final Fantasy would be. But I'm glad Square proved me wrong.

The first thing that gripped me into the world of FFXVI was the story and its presentation. I loved the blend and tone between this dark medieval war story and the fantastical mythos of the franchise. The world building and overall conflict took a while to connect, but the strong emphasis on a character-driven plot kept me going. Mostly, from beginning to end, the story is fantastic. It is as epic as a FF game should be, it's bleak (at times a bit too bleak), joyful, well written, deep and gets crazy by the end.

But what really drives the story forward are the characters and their dialogues. FFXVI has some of the best written characters and exchanges in the franchise. Clive is a great protagonist, Jill has an impressive backstory, Gav is one of the coolest characters, Dion is complex enough and even Torgal, the dog, gets to shine. Not to mention Cid - the greatest character in the game. Probably the best Cid in the whole franchise. Voice acting, charisma and vivid well-written conversations were key to all this.

As for gameplay, it may not be as deep as FFVII or innovative as FFX, but it gets the job done better than the likes of FFXV or FFXII. You see, the action mechanics are pretty simple, but they're very accessible, excelling in substance, intensity AND style. It's quite addictive, actually. Especially when it comes to boss fights. Whether you're fighting as an Eikon or going against a tough enemy, this is where the spectacle lies.

This game looks absolutely beautiful. Probably one of the best looking games out there, currently. It is quite impressive and it keeps throwing new shockingly beautiful things at the screen until the very last scene. And it all comes together with what must be the best Final Fantasy soundtrack since FFXIII. Simply remarkable!

But for a game that gets so much right, when something goes wrong, it becomes crystal clear.

It may have an incredible story, but its pacing is all over the place. At one moment you're fighting a god, the other you're collecting flowers. And, yes, this is usually how RPGs goes, but it feels glaring on a game so focused in its own plot. As a result, the writing and rhythm kinda goes a bit off by the final act.

The ending, for example, it's not bad, but with a tale as depressing as this one, it'd be better for a more direct and sunny finale option. Being bittersweet and ambiguous can work, sure, but not always.

The amount of sidequests were a low point as well. They're usually very interesting, with some even gifting you with cool scenes, world building and interactions between characters. In fact, some sidequests at the ending are A MUST, for example. The problem is, if you want to experience them, you have to go through the same repetitive objectives and places over and over again. And there are A LOT of them, coming up at the worst times possible during the main quest. There's simply no verticality. You can see this on enemy variety, which is a joke. Even the hunts get stale.

And last, but not least, FFXVI's biggest flaw is not deciding whether it wants to be an action game or an RPG.

I miss customization, statuses, skill variety, secret dungeons. It is mostly there, but it's just... not enough. It's different. A party system could've fixed part of that. You have very charming characters helping Clive on his quest, but they're barely there during gameplay and are barely useful. You can't even mess around with Torgal's skills and he's always present.

Still, in my opinion, Final Fantasy XVI is an amazing game back to back. Its flaws are clear and I get that it looks and plays different enough to avert a few fans. But it is definitely a great entry in the mainline series and might be the best one since FFX.

Only time will tell. Play it and find out for yourself.

You wonder why they have choose to just build a empty content game like this?
Because they prefer make money just with the name, rather than create an actual good experience. Since this game wasn't a JRPG anymore, and it was even an awful action game, filled with cinematics and QTE all over the place.

I rather stay with my old final fantasy games, and play actual good jrpg games (like Persona 5, Octopath Traveler, Tails of, Dragon Quest, ecc...).
And even RPG like Baldurs Gate 3 show how much rich and satisfying can provide a truly great game.
For this reason I suggest you to avoid this Final Fantasy 16
Because it is sadly that bad

P.S.: and if you're looking for better action games, play Nier Automata and Bayonetta 3. They are both better than FF16.

What a Work of art, best in the series with traditional final fantasy themes reinvented for a modern world all whilst being a medieval fantasy game, it’s combat is similar to DMC with its fast paced hack and slash abilities, the UI is fantastic and clean, the bosses and battles will blow you away and the story is beautiful in more ways than you’d expect from square enix, I will say there’s ALOT of gameplay to expect and if you do play the side quests you’re adding an additional 20+ hours on top do campaign, the cutscenes are worth it, there’s a few complaints but I think everyone’s got tiktok brain rot and can’t focus for longer than 30 seconds, if you liked Witcher 3, DMC and final fantasy 7, you’ll love this I was and still am not over the game, it’s made me feel like I’ve genuinely been a part of the story and most final fantasy games in recent years haven’t given me that feeling, it’s bringing new and old fans alike into the series and with the battles reinvented (summons to eikons) in a glorious epic showdown style, I don’t know how you can’t enjoy this game, you’ll laugh and cry and get angry for the characters, it’s beautiful honestly. After getting into the series with Final Fantasy VII Remake and working my way through some of the older games afterwards, the Final Fantasy series quickly became one of my favorite videogame series of all time.
I had very high expectations for Final Fantasy XVI, not only because I'm a big fan of the series, but also because it looked absolutely breathtaking from the trailers.
Having finally played the game, however, I can safely say that Final Fantasy XVI lived up to my expectations for the most part, and it even exceeded them in some areas; the story, for example, while not perfect, is arguably my favorite in the entire series, and the characters are fantastic too.
The gameplay is basically Devil May Cry 5 but less complex... but I love it nonetheless. The RPG elements are toned down for sure, but the action combat system and abilities are very enjoyable.
Also, the visuals are gorgeous, the music is epic as hell, and the boss fights... OH. MY. GOD! The Eikon bosses and the final boss in particular are probably the most spectacular bosses I've ever seen in a videogame.
Unfortunately, however, Final Fantasy XVI has some noticeable flaws as well; first of all, the game runs at below 60 FPS, which is borderline unacceptable in my opinion.
The mandatory fetch quests are my biggest problem with the game because they slow down the story at times.
Lastly, the world is kinda empty; it needs minigames and more content, but that's not a big deal for me personally.

    Pros:
    + Compelling story
    + Likable and engaging characters
    + Amazing gameplay
    + Breathtaking visuals and music
    + Jaw-dropping boss fights

    Cons:
    - Performance issues
    - Inconsistent pacing
    - Boring side-content

    Gameplay: 9/10
    Content: 7/10

    Graphics/Audio: 10/10

    Final Rating: 9.5/10
    - Outstanding -
By trying to diverge from the main series in many areas, Final Fantasy XVI is a divisive Final Fantasy game, however, it's not only the best mainline Final Fantasy game since XII, but it's also my personal favorite mainline game in the entire series alongside IX.

    Do I recommend it?:

Graphic: the most appreciated part of the game. It's worth the AAA title but since the game is dark theme so almost 70% of the environment look dark and death, which is in the end I cannot enjoyed the environment at all.

World: I don't mind with the map point thing cause FF is not elden ring, let be real GOW also have same world map loading point like this. But again the feeling it gave me different from FFVX' world, FFXV world is also empty but stunning.

Music: always be the field Square is the expert. It's not perfect as FFVII remake but cannot complain anything.

Character: no development in character at all, even the timeline of the game is years. No deep down in character personality or growth aspect, only Clive have more story telling and other is very plain and straight forward, even Clive he is so straight forward person type since the beginning till the end. Not wrong since that is the thing he is emphasized for but I feel so unreal. Jill is big disappointing for me. I was looking forward for her back story but it's just over dramatic with lacking story content.

Combat: combat is fun enough with me but really not hard even with a person cannot play soul game like me. You just need patient repeat dodge and waiting for eikon skill to replenish and slowly reduce the enemy health (even with high difficult monster hunt). And no party member can be control is the huge minus.
I had so much fun with the combat, but as long as going sometime feel like chores because you have no choice other than control Clive.

50% side quest are not necessary. They can reduce the quantity then not so much complain.

In conclusion, I enjoyed the game for sure and the story sometime got me well but I don't think I can play NG+ and come back time to time like I did with FFXV. I hope next main line will be less serious less emperor more fantasy more world building, like old FFIX FFX. And please It's Final Fantasy, don't kill the party fighting thing, we need companion in action.

They have stripped away so much of what makes a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game. And for what? They announced that we don't like turn-based or ATB combat anymore, that the series was "too sci-fi", etc. That's all news to me, because those were all the things I loved about the series. I loved the cyberpunk or steampunk settings of 7, 8, 10, and 13. FFX had the best combat in the series IMO. But we apparently don't like those things anymore.

And apparently we don't like good storytelling either. I feel like I'm going insane when I see the praise for this story. Have the standards for narrative fallen so far? These writers have never heard of "show, don't tell". Because half the story is quite literally told through Active Time Lore. And the rest of it is ridiculously heavy handed and dumbed down. DO YOU GET IT? PEOPLE TREAT BEARERS LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS? DO YOU GET IT?!??!?

Hire an actual writer or two. The pacing of the narrative is horrific. So many of the sidequests are pure bloat and could have been cut entirely. The side quests that are all worthwhile and actually add to character depth and narrative occur in the last few hours of the game, long after you might have stopped caring. Put those side quests earlier in the game. There were so many narrative hits that didn't resonate because I was *told* to care about these characters when I should have been *shown*. That's what the great games of this series did so well. We cared when events happened in 7 and 10 because those characters were developed and we got those narrative bits. In FFXVI, we read Active Time Lore and get told about various things we should care about.

Story isn't the only thing that has suffered relative to previous games in the series. There are about 10 different enemies in this game, all with the same attacks. Compare that to the bestiary of 7 or 8. We're going backwards. Combat is laughably easy, and there is nothing that qualifies as a super boss that ranks with the likes of Emerald/Ruby Weapon, Nemesis, Penance, Ozma, etc.

This is literally half of a Final Fantasy game and people are praising it to high heaven. To each their own I guess. I just feel like we should be adding to what has been established, not stripping away content. I don't even think this is the best RPG released in the last two years. Star Ocean Divine Force was unironically better with 1/10th of the budget.

Clive is as bland as one can get. From personality to arsenal. The gear system is a joke. They toss crafting items at you all game for practically nothing. His abilities are nothing game changing.

The story is like if the folks who wrote Kingdom Hearts 2-3 tried to make a Game of Thrones story. It is full of adult content mixed in with absolute nonsense mixed with "gotcha" moments that make your eyes roll. Also side quests hell, awful, useless side quests.

Basically they missed out on staples of Final Fantasy like parties, customizations, battle strategy churning out a game that is just Devil May Cry.

A good action videogame... but sadly a really bad RPG. And for me that is the reason why it becomes one of the worst games in the main saga.

The combat system is easy and very simple and the plot has a great start but after Cid's death and the introduction of one of the worst villains in the saga, it loses quality and pace.

There are no towns or memorable locations, the exploration is terrible and the quests are bored except for the last ones.

Not all is bad, Clive is a good main character, and we have the best Cid, in the saga, the soundtrack is top and the eikon boss fighs are crazy, Bayonetta style.

Like i say, a good narrative (and easy) action hack'n'slash game, but and horrible RPG.

It's a majestic game, with the most espectacular battles and a really enjoyable story and characters. The only improvements I will personally do are: - Better secondary quests. The ones at the very end are interesting but in general they are simple and similar in terms of structure. - I miss some classic status, like poison, silence... It started very strong, but fell short of expectations after a dozen of hours in. It's a fine game and you will have a lot of fun with it, but there are some elements (especially side quests - ALL of them) that could be done better. A step into the right direction for sure, but we are not yet there.

Much has been already written here by other players giving 10/10s, so I don't want to be too repetitive. My personal highlights in the game: the gripping main story with the most epic boss fights I've ever played, perfect soundtrack, top-tier voice acting esp. by Ben Starr, Susannah Fielding, and Ralph Ineson! The combat system took some time to get used to, but it clicks eventually. The number of side missions was intimidating, but since they become available throughout the game and are fairly short, they were easily manageable. Also, their purpose was mostly to add to lore and world-building or provide an opportunity to take a break from the highs of the main story, which I greatly appreciated.

I ended up at about 90hrs in my first playthrough and enjoyed every minute of it! I even caught myself unnecessarily extending the playtime because I didn't want it to end! This rarely ever happens, but just shows how much I loved experiencing FF16.

Valisthea's world has many side quests, but they are given at a good pace, so you will not get tired as quickly. You will also have a chance to learn about this lore-filled world when doing those side quests. Even if you are just playing just the story with no side quests in mind, thanks to the PS5, the walk to each waypoint will always be scenic, even if in the harshest of environments. While the gameplay can look repetitive, the player is given the ability to mix and match their powers to ensure that every fight will always be a fun one. Of course, we cannot forget the helpful Active Time Lore mechanic that will inform players on subjects relevant to the plot, if confused. Hopefully, more mechanics similar to this will be more common moving forward in gaming. The engaging story, god like gameplay, and bug free gameplay, makes Final Fantasy XVI worth the seventy-dollar price tag. I personally give Final Fantasy XVI a 9/10. Expand

The conmbat gameplay is incredibly satisfying with various powersets and great sword combat, although it is on the easier side so if you are looking for a big challenge, you may be slightly disappointed. It is not so easy that it is boring, but not very difficult either. The boss fights are also some of the best in gaming wit great set pieces, combat, visuals, sound, and atmosphere. Each one feels like it could be an endgame fight. The performance is consistent and the graphics are beautiful. The RPG elements are a bit shallow than previous games in the franchise, not terrible, but not as in-depth and i do miss the party system like in the 7 remake. The exploration in the areas desppite the graphis being great can be a bit weak due to some repititive side quests and uninteresting side characters outside of the main cast, but a few of them are still interesting enough.

Didn't like the main ending villain, but the Game of Thrones feel for the first 90% makes up for it. The only problems are that loot is pretty much useless, making exploration also useless. It's highly debated back and forth, but God of Dragon Ball May Cry is a pretty decent game for what it is. I do tend to agree with the majority though - it's far more God of War/Devil May Cry game with a Final Fantasy skin than a true "Final Fantasy" game.

The world is gorgeous and very detailed. However, it's also very empty. They attempted to fix the major complaint of FF13 where the majority of the maps were corridors, but failed to fill them with anything substantial. Zones are wide open spaces with a few patches of monsters here and there and 1-2 towns, which are also mostly empty. Quite honestly, the game really could've benefited if they would've make it a seamless world instead of broken into chunks.

Combat is primarily where the game is compared to GoW/DMC, and rightfully so. Combat encounters either button mashing or QTE for major fights. For standard enemies... well it's basically the same still. There are a total of 38 abilities (no counting combat basic skills) and you can assign a total of 9 active at a time. Optimally, you'll end up choosing a mix that is maximizing stagger and pure damage. Unforunately, this makes the majority of skills "useless" in comparison. I didn't even bother testing/using the majority of the available skills once I found a combination that pretty much erased even elite enemies.

The main story is okay. It's nothing super special, and nothing really felt unique. Besides for the "combat skins" and NPCs, this is really the only thing that was "Final Fantasy"esque, and it was unimpressive overall.

Side quests get extremely tedious and boring very quickly, and that's amazing since you don't get the majority of them until towards the end of the game. And at that point, almost every quest is 3 minute or longer dialog, that you can thankfully skip through. At the start of the game, I was all in for sitting through the side stories. After hitting the end point of the game where they dump 15 side quests at once, it got to the point I just started skipping through the dialog for anyone that wasn't a "main" character.

Crafting/gear progression is a complete joke. The option to craft progession gear (green) is pointless. Once you start rolling through the story and side quests, the materials for your next major weapons (blue quality+) are pretty much literally thrown at you. By the time you unlock a crafting recipe, you either already aquired all the materials or will be getting them very shortly after. They may as well just scrapped this entire system and given out the gear upgrades directly.

Overall, the game is very pretty, and feels like the majority of development went into doing only that. Everything that makes a RPG feel like "Final Fantasy" felt like it was tacked on, or missing entirely, just so the IP can be in the title. They could've completely removed all the FF IP and it would be solid on it's own. Even FF15 felt more like a "Final Fantasy" game than this did. But again, even though this is most definitely "God of Dragon Ball May Cry", it was a solid game to play through.
