Really great game and a proper evolution of the series. The battle system in the predecessor (FF 15) wasn't that great to be honest, but in FF 16 they hired the right people and did a really, really good job. Although it's very different compared to the previous titles, it definitely feels like a Final Fantasy game and is a good example of how a game can evolve and change up important elements in a way that doesn't lead to total alienation.

Mostly due to all the attention to detail (great story explanation, stunning visuals, immersive world, superb voice acting) it deserves the full score of 10/10. There are minor things I'd wish were different (e.g. using Ambrosia feels a little clunky), but they are mostly subjective and don't have a negative effect on the overall score.

    Thanks for this great experience!

The gameplay feels too braindead easy, to the point of be just a mere interlude between the cutscenes, and this wasn't fun at all. Just like the bad side quests.
And there's not even exploration in the game, and this make the game just not worth it, for a series like this.

Neutral: Took me about 55 hours to complete the main story, side quests and hunts.

Good: The game looks great, has an interesting setting and fun combat. It is not a grindy game.

Bad: It's a bit on the easy side. At times the frequency of cut scene made it feel like I was palying an interactive novel instead of an action game.

FFXVI is a different Final Fantasy, but it was so fun. I thought the characters were very well-written. Clive was serious, but he also had a fun side to him, which FF protagonists don't always have. The combat was smooth, and I didn't really miss having other playable characters. Overall, best FF game we've had in a while!

It's there just to fill a checkbox, it's pretty clear they wanted to do a pure action. The game could have been better if a little bit harder and challenging. The highs are so high it's impossible to give the game less than a 75.

My two biggest gripes are - 1. Doing away with status effects. I feel like it really dumbed down the gameplay. 2. There are some amazing side quests - but the side quests in the first half of the game are weak, overall. The amount of fetch quests, I think, will deter people from picking up side quests later in the game and some of the late game side quests provide some of the best storytelling in the game.

Overall - I don't know if this is a FF game I will come back to again and again like FFX and FFXII - but I really enjoyed my time with it.

I got more out of this games huge heart wrenching story in the first 6 hours than I did the entire 40 hours playing FF 15. Graphics are too real. If it plays this good on day 1 I can't imagine how much better it will get. FF 15 was terrible at launch and it had way less going on, don't forget where we came from. Combat is better than Remake, I said it. I went into this game hating it from the reviews and I was 100% proved wrong. I wanted to hate this game and return it immediately but to my shock this game is a solid 9/10 and it's totally new which means in 2023 it's a 10/10 masterpiece that surpasses Elden Ring and GOWR. I played all 3 and this game is much better on your first playthrough. GOWR is second, Elden Ring is 3rd and TOTK is 4th. I'm very unbiased as far as games go, I played every From Software game along with Elden Ring and I quit 70% of the way through because it was too much of the same thing. I finished GOWR and it was amazing but it was stale from the first one on PS4, I needed something totally new and FF 16 gave me that on a silver platter and I couldn't help myself it hit the spot man I'm telling you. If it's got my eyes glued to the screen because of the story and gameplay then I guarantee it'll have everyone glued. Expand

(you can literally finish the game without changing your weapon and without ever using any kind of items)
    - the plot is poorly written, and the story is just boring. Because based only on forced pretexts, and illogical motivations of the characters involved, and all this to bring out such a bland and banal protagonist dish that it competes with Vaan to be the worst in the series
    - has a linear and empty world. The map is just a menu where you select your destination and access the mission area. And it is a pity to note that despite this the maps of these missions are mostly empty and linear and therefore useless to explore
    - the dungeons design are bad, because they are all linear and empty corridors
    - the boring Lore
    - the quests are all garbage tier
    - poor technical performance. Even considering the technical structure of PS5, this FF16 turns out to be in some ways worse than an oldgen game

I remember there was this one ambush scene where if you pay attention you see an axe in the corner of the scene for a fraction of a second. Clive’s life is turned upside down when his kingdom is attacked by Ifrit, the Eikon of Fire, who kills his father and scars him with a mysterious mark. Clive then embarks on a quest for revenge, joining forces with his childhood friend Jill and a charismatic rebel leader named Cid.

The game’s story spans several decades and covers multiple perspectives, as Clive and his allies face various enemies and challenges in their journey. The story is full of twists and turns, betrayals and revelations, tragedies and triumphs. It is also full of memorable characters, both heroes and villains, who have their own motivations and personalities. The game’s voice acting is superb, especially for Clive (Ben Starr) and Cid (Ralph Ineson). The game’s soundtrack, composed by Masayoshi Soken, is also excellent, featuring a mix of orchestral, rock, and electronic music that fits the mood and tone of each scene.

The game’s combat system is one of its strongest points. It is an action-based system that requires fast reflexes and strategic thinking. Clive can use various weapons, such as swords, daggers, axes, and spears, each with their own movesets and combos. He can also use magic abilities that are derived from the Eikons he encounters, such as fire, ice, lightning, earth, wind, and water. He can switch between weapons and magic on the fly, creating dynamic and fluid combat scenarios. He can also dodge, parry, block, and counter enemy attacks, adding more depth and challenge to the combat.

The game’s combat system also features an innovative mechanic called Active Time Lore (ATL), which allows Clive to access information about the enemies he faces, such as their weaknesses, resistances, behaviors, and lore. This information can help Clive to exploit their vulnerabilities or avoid their strengths. ATL also allows Clive to interact with the environment during combat, such as using objects as weapons or cover, or triggering environmental hazards or events that can affect the battle. ATL adds more immersion and variety to the combat system, making it more engaging and rewarding.

The game’s graphics are another highlight of Final Fantasy 16. The game looks stunning on the PlayStation 5 console, showcasing impressive details, lighting effects, textures, animations, and particle effects. The game’s environments are diverse and beautiful, ranging from lush forests and snowy mountains to desolate wastelands and futuristic cities. The game’s character models are realistic and expressive, conveying emotions and personality through facial expressions and body language. The game’s cutscenes are cinematic and spectacular showing off epic battles and dramatic moments.

The game’s graphics are not perfect though. The game suffers from some technical issues such as framerate drops, pop-in,
screen tearing but its miniscule so its not noticeable.

The game’s content is another area where Final Fantasy 16 shines,

The game offers plenty of content for players to enjoy such as side quests, mini-games, collectibles, challenges and secrets.

Some of this content is fun and rewarding such as hunting rare monsters, playing card games, finding hidden lore, helping out NPCs.

The game also features a New Game Plus mode which allows players to replay the game with all their progress and items carried over as well as access to new content and features such as alternate endings, extra bosses, and harder difficulty levels.

Final Fantasy 16 is more a movie rather than a video game, given the endless superfluous dialogue and pre-rendered cutscenes for every single QTE, and there are a lot of QTE's.
The low quality of the textures adds to the number of flaws of this game with soporific, very easy, and tasteless gameplay.
And if in an action game the gameplay becomes boring then it fails in its main purpose, and it is the exact biggest flaw that plagues Final Fantasy 16. Added to the lackluster plot, flat character writing with cringe dialogues, and a disarming poverty of options and general content .
Final Fantasy 16 is one of those rare cases where I deeply regret spending money on a video game like this and for this reason FF16 represents to me one of the saddest and most depressing disappointments of this generation so far

Very good Game with great armosphere, welk narrated characters and spectacular battles. Only small deductions because of minor mistakes, but all in all a successful new approach to the series.

As someone who only really found out about the series with Final Fantasy 15 but only got into by 7 Remake, I was genuinely excited to play this game and see what it had to offer and honestly for the most part, it not only met my expectations, it EXCEEDED them. This game is what happens when you hire writers from Game of Thrones, combat designers of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, and someone who could create Attack on Titan and God of War set-pieces all combined to create an experience that I will never forget anytime soon. The first thing I can confidently say is that the game looks so beautiful, I couldn't believe my eyes on what I was looking at so much so that I actually didn't mind that the photo mode was pretty basic, you'll be looking in awe on just how beautiful this game is that you'll constantly want to stop for a quick second and take in the magnificent work of art the developers created. The combat is PHENOMENAL with how easy it is to get into and the spectacle you showcase on-screen is a genuine marvel to look at and it never fails to become engaging and never feels repetitive with how the combat expands further on throughout the game. I'm always a fan of Final Fantasy soundtracks and this game might just be better than even 7 Remake and 15 with how they drive the emotion and stakes so much further than they have any right too causing me to get excited for a fight or what happens next. The story and characters are absolutely extraordinary and kept me hooked onto my seat with how many stakes there were, the emotions it brings, and genuinely how relateable it is since this game never failed to make me want the best for the characters seeing what was going on in the world, the characters are nothing short of beautiful and complex and the performances given by the actors only elevate them to some of the best characters I've seen in a video game, the Active Time Lore is easily one of the most revolutionary features I've seen in a video game since it helps you keep track of the story progress and especially helpful if you don't have a lot of time to play games to give you a recap on the story so far if you haven't played in a long time. People say the side quests are awful since they're so simplistic fetch quests but that just makes me feel like they never tried them since this is only the case for 30% of the side quests, everything else is surprisingly good side quests to flesh out the side characters more. Now you may be thinking, "Didn't you hate Dead Space 3's side quests when they did the same thing?" True, but those side quests focused on a MAIN character and you can't skip them otherwise you'll have no idea why the second main character even exists whereas FF16's focuses on the side characters and the game already tells you why they're here so you only want to do their side quests because you want to learn more from these side characters. Finally, probably the game's biggest highlight: the Eikon battles. These battles are a masterclass in spectacle and it feels so immersive and cinematic watching them in action and the fact they get better as you go on just increases the replayibility, people might hate the overly generous QTE's but tbh, QTE's are kind've a thing of the past and failing them is more annoying than anything since it always felt like a cheap trick to get you to pay attention so I genuinely didn't mind the generous QTE's. Now as much as I genuinely love this game, this game does have some problems to the point where I can't call it a masterpiece. For starters, some of the main story quests feel like shoved side quests to relieve you of the insane battles but come on SE, did they really have to be this boring to the point where it breaks the pacing? I wouldn't say the performance is as bad as people say it is since during gameplay and cutscenes, it's a locked frame-rate so you aren't distracted by it but other times, you can ABSOLUTELY see the bad frame pacing and here's hoping they fix it eventually. Finally, it wasn't that hard on my first playthrough nor on my second, I get that the director wanted to make the game more accessible to more people, but at least have an option where we want to feel challenged. With all that being said, I still enjoyed my time with Final Fantasy 16 that I actually didn't mind doing another playthrough for the platinum trophy and this is a story I have no doubt will remain with me for years to come and if you can get through the pacing and frame-rate problems, you'll no doubt love this game. As it stands, Final Fantasy 16 is my GOTY and can't wait to see the franchise move forward and also, PLEASE MAKE SOME DLC FOR SOME OF THE CHARACTERS SQUARE ENIX. Expand

All exaggeration apart, it really has some fantastic features and some terrible ones, particularly for a game that was shipped in 2023 rather than 2003.

The game is fantastic because the story is epic and melancolic, the combat design is great and dynamic (although sometimes repetitive) and the art is amazing. The eikon battles are really great and memorable video game moments. The dynamic battles were a surprise but quite satisfactory in the end. As a souls player, having to learn patterns and parry / avoid felt familiar.

The problem is all that greatness comes between a lot of mediocre content.
Most of the secondary characters are not memorable (to say the least : let's not even talk about female representation). Most of the side quests are really, really lame (come on, so many fedex quests in a AAA game from 2023 ?). Also the bestiary is disappointing, there are just variations of like 10 enemies in the end.
Apart from the main story, most of the dialogues were just variations of "the world is ending but please help me find my dog", but much longer and more boring. All of the story's epicness is swallowed in dullness.

Finally, some features just really suck ?

Two examples that just add unnecessary friction :
    * When you are doing one of those fedex quests and collect three items for someone, when you have them, the game opens a pop-up menu where you have to manually click each of those three items, to end the quest.
    * Some doors (probably to change zones and load the new zone) require that you push R2 for a couple of seconds.

I really had trouble reaching the end of the game because of all the friction and boring moments but I HAD to reach the final battles and the end of the story.

This was perhaps one of my most anticipated games, it looked absolutely phenomenal and I'm actually surprised how it actually lived up to the hype.

I was a little bit sceptical at first, because the combat felt very simple, but once you get the first 3 Eikons, it feels way better, the amount of abilities you get to unlock as you progress throughout is kind of crazy, there are many Eikons to get by progressing the main story, and every single one has a different moveset, which makes combat feel fresh.

Also I got to say, I was expecting the exploration to be way more restrictive but it's actually the opposite, there's a good amount of exploration, many side quests and areas to explore, and you can even hunt down monsters for materials to craft equipment. It takes a while for the game to open up though, it's very linear in the beginning, and has a lot of cutscenes that can be annoying, but once it opens up, it gets significantly better.

The story is one of my favorite stories the series has to offer, it's pretty dark and serious, has so many twists and turns, and arguably some of the highest peaks in any game I've ever played. The cutscenes are gorgeous and the boss fights are absolutely jaw-dropping, not only in terms of spectacle but also in terms of gameplay, they're so god damn fun, probably the highlight of the entire game actually.
Even the characters are very well written, Clive is my favorite protagonist in the series, and the side characters are very likeable and relatable in many ways. Their side stories are actually interesting, you can really tell how much love and effort was put into the story overall.

As expected, the soundtrack is incredible, even though there's one moment in the game where the music didn't really fit in my opinion, every other track is amazing and very much fitting, I found myself either humming some melodies or even singing along to some songs as I was playing.

What blew me away though is the Thousand Tomes, which works as some sort of a library for the game's world and lore where every single piece of information can be found there. It's honestly so important and useful, so much information and things to read so you can keep up with the story, learn about the characters, the monsters, the wars, the secrets of the world and pretty much everything the game has to offer. I actually reached the max level because I spend so much time collecting everything and it was a blast, for the first time ever in a videogame I genuinely loved reading, and finding out new information was always very exciting.

That being said, I do have some few complaints to make, with the most obvious one being the tedious side quests, I actually did all of them yes, I spend way too much time in this game, it took me 77 hours to finish it because I did everything in the world and then finished the main story, and honestly... the side quest I genuinely liked were very few, specifically near the end of the game. Most side quests for like 80% of the game are actually kind of boring, they're not badly written in fact it's the other way around, the stories they tell are decent, it's just that all of them are somewhat the same, you go somewhere, kill someone or collect something, go back to the person you first talked to, thats it.

Another issue is the amount of fetch quests specifically in the middle of the story, from 40% all the way to 60%, the pacing slows down and there's just a lot of random fetch quests that actually feel like filler content.

Other than that, even with the issues I have, I'm in love with this game, playing it for the first time felt like a dream come true. What a beautiful experience, It's just so close to being a masterpiece.

    Final Rating: "Excellent" ~ 9.5/10.

I’ll start with the positives, the story was immersive with great graphics on the cutscenes and great voice acting. you grew a bond over time with the characters, the main objectives were clearly marked and progressed the story appropriately, and although I saw instances where cheery music was playing when something tragic or intense was happening during a few cutscenes or right after the cutscene it was great music for the most part. The eikon battles had me feeling like I was controlling a power ranger megazord so that was pretty fun and exiting. -As much as I tried loving this game I simply found too many things that I personally didn’t enjoy, I couldn’t explore the beautiful world as much as I wanted too since there was no incentive to do so! You would find like 2 Gil in a corner of a map or a few steelsilk after defeating a tanky creature.
-The side missions are absolutely mediocre, take plates of food to 2 people… take apples to 3 people. I couldn’t believe how lazy and uncreative these missions were written into the game, there’s a handful of decent ones but for the most part they’re terrible.
-The combat was somewhat new and refreshing at the beginning but I didn’t really feel any reward for defeating a majority of the bosses in the game, instead of making them challenging to fight it feels as though they just slap more HP on them.
Overall the game consists of watching a 30 minute cutscene then you fight a few enemies in between, do/or don’t do some terrible side quests, reach your new destination/objective and watch another 10 minute cutscene. Rinse and repeat.

The concept of how summons work in the same way and sense of titan shifters in Attack on titan was so amazing with so much potential for story and gameplay elements, only for it to fall flat and end up being really stale and heavilyunderutilized. There are like 6 Eikon fights in the game, something that was shown off as a selling point of this game and theres like barely 2 hours worth of these fights, with arguable the best fight being the one you play in the demo. In terms of expericing the story, hearing the best music the game has to offer and expericing most of the best moments of the game, it could all be experienced in the demo. The side quest and the really really slow parts of the story is just so frustratingly boring, I ended up having to skip through most dialogue and just straight up skip entire side quest cute scenes, and I feel bad cause the voice work in this game is incredible with every VA doing an amazing job, but I just couldn't be bother to care with how slow and tedious the writting could be. The story and environments are so uninteresting, oh boy I sure do love walking through grass area 1 and unlocking grass area 2 and then heading to boring brown ugly desert with nothing of real substance to do in any of these places, its a shame this game limits itself to these boring uninspiring locations and not even making them fun in any way with stuff to do or what not but thats okay its the best this small indie company can do with a IP thats not that well known so they really had to limit themselves on what they could do. And the gameplay gets so stale so DAMN quickly, I love pressing square 5 times and then pressing one of 2 abilites I have at the end and calling that a COMBO, maybe I should spicy it up after the 100th time of doing this and press triangel imbetween each time I press square, whoa! now this is cool action game gameplay. Don't even get to control a different party member or change my weapon at all, forced to play the exact same from start to finish with never any real combos just **** ability moves that like pretend to be combo moves but they're just extra moves you press every now and then.
THAT DIRECTOR 100% LIED TO **** EVERYONE
Ryota Suzuki, the Goddamn DMC director, you cannot tell me ff16 is your personal masterpiece when this **** isn't even in the same league of DMC combat, you sir are a liar and need to rethink what your personal masterpiece is cause this is far from it.

Look I really wanted this to be good, the trailers and demo really painted a picture that this game would truly be a masterly beautiful final fantasy game, and I could excuse most of the problems I have with this game if it kept the same enegry and motion that the demo had with obviosuly more then a pathetic number of 6 Eikon fights and just been more creative and exicting with your story Goddamn it your final fantasy with unlimited themes and potential WHY are you limiting yourself like this.

    Still better then ff15

I finished this game without ever using any healing items and without ever changing weapons, since I never needed them and the game doesn't even offer any options to customize the protagonist.
The story smacks of already seen, generic as hell and trivial in every second. With ridiculous and stereotypical characters, cringe dialogues, bad lore, bad dungeons, Bosses that you defeat with QTEs, a hideous villain and a generic ending.
Can I give you some advice?
    Avoid Final Fantasy 16.
Because like Final Fantasy it is ridiculously poor in content and in every element of the series, except the names.

Amazing story! Side quests can fell a bit massive at some times, but the pieces of story they gave you is so much worth. I do recommend this game to anyone who likes an action gamez in the likes of god war.
And the story just shines , what an amazing ending, it has been a long time since i played something like this

-Plot twists, character sacrifices, and complex story telling is all present like most final fantasy of high value
    -Epic music
    -Never boring* (except... first con)
-Most side quests are great and shows off the people of each kingdom.
    -No bugs, glitches
-Graphics are True Next-Gen but still some compromise still exist. A PS5 Pro might be required.
-Open World game gives much to explore
-Game starts off linear but switches to Open World after the Garuda fight.

    Cons
-First few "side quests" are more like task and small fetch quests * Thankfully, it's short and does not apply to all side quests, only the first few ones
-Very poor customization when it comes to gear, weapons and the such, all you have is a black smith to have a bit more attack that is very much optional. Contrast that to the Materia system of FF7 R, different builds and gives higher strategy.
-Very low strategy involve, whatever you use will be based more on your game play preference rather than weakness and strategy.
I have not encountered enemies being weak to certain elements and if there was, it's still more useful to use your abilities than not.
    -The World could be bigger
-There could be more hunts, they are very good and fun to fight, we want more of these.
-After ascension to have 3 Eikons, the game becomes much easier with many abilities to easily destroy your enemies. Smaller enemies are basically cannon fodder.
-The existence of the easy automatic items, aside auto-Torgal, were never needed. All it cause is for trolls to bash the game without any justification. The game really requires skills and most players can handle it.

Feels more like a Devil May Cry game than Final Fantasy but it's still an awesome game worth playing.

I view the series as a light hearted adventure: fun, whimsical, charming, etc. However, I truly did not expect the brooding and oppressing take on Final Fantasy XVI, and as an older gamer, I truly appreciate it. The story and side quests didn’t always have a happy ending, and they were incredibly well written and engaging throughout. Boss fights. Boss fights are **** epic; all I’m going to say. A couple of gripes I had is the lackluster crafting system, and the performance.

Final Fantasy XVI is a damn good game, and if the series can keep this tone going, then you will have made a fan out of me!

Some of the best graphics ever displayed on a console. Truly 'next-gen.' Music was amazing throughout. Atmosphere and world-building were great. Voice acting was stellar. Combat was decent.

Side mission were appalling. Apparently they get better late on but by then I had learned to ignore them. Early ones are truly criminal and an insult to the player's time and intelligence.

THIS IS NOT AN RPG. There is no reason to do those side missions because the loot is common and found elsewhere (except for a small handful of late-game missions) and there is nothing to craft. Bosses drop materials which are crafted into the next weapon you're 'supposed' to have. Each sword only has two stats. There is no armour and no real 'build.'

Story is great at first but gets boring late on. There is over a dozen hours of cut-scenes and whilst some look great, many are just talking. I started skipping all cut-scenes late on.

The mission design is out-dated. Walk, kill enemies, walk, kill enemies. Cut scene. Rinse and repeat. Even though you have different elemental powers, THERE IS NO ELEMENTAL DAMAGE! Fire swords hurt fire enemies the same as frost enemies. WHAT. AN. OVERSIGHT. It's all just for show.

Boss battles are epic and the main reason to play this game. Gorgeous, over the top and beautiful.

No mini-games or the ability to play as another character, other than brief moments where you become a monster. Gets stale after a while. Mechanics could have done with some variety.

Too easy. Just keep spamming the same few abilities and you'll destroy 90% of the enemies, which lack variety. Hard mode is only unlocked for NG+ and most people won't have the stomach for a second playthrough.

Generally, I was disappointed because I had high hopes of something deeper and more strategic. FF7R is much better. That said, why would I still give it an 8? Well, there are a handful of moments in this game that are simply jaw-dropping and set a new bar. The epic boss battles are unbelievable, the graphics are gorgeous (although the game struggles to maintain 60fps in same simple areas) and you can easily get lost in the deep lore of the world.

Definitely worth playing, if only to see what you bought a PS5 for. I'm tired of indie games that look like 16bit games. I bought a PS5 because I wanted futuristic graphics, and this is it.

A very flawed, but nevertheless unmissable, epic adventure. Could have been a masterpiece. It's not. But it's still worth a week of smashing through it.

The RPG element is unfortunately reduced to the bone if not non-existent, it is therefore impossible to create any type of build with equipment and weapons that simply do not have special or status or elemental characteristics but are limited only to increasing the attack stat, the open maps are very visually stunning but they are completely empty and dead areas devoid of any sort of secret or point of interest or hidden rewards much less hidden unique dialogue characters etc. Crafting and leveling have turned out to be totally useless because the weapons and equipment are given to you at the next Boss fight or bssta buy them from the merchant on duty. it absolutely doesn't push you to experiment and that's a real shame because it's tremendous fun. In short, the game is enjoyable as a title but does not even have the shadow of its RPG component or mechanics dedicated to weapons and accessories and this is never lacking in a Final Fantasy. Unfortunately I have to repeat myself as a gamer I consider myself quite satisfied but as a fan of Final Fantasy we are really far from the glories of the past despite the fact that giant strides have been made compared to the XV without any doubt. The graphics and sound design are of the fu**ing chart! Especially the Esper fights are some of the visual best action scenes I have ever seen in a video game and even in a movie. The battle-system is more action focused and is closer to Devil May Cry but that is not a bad thing because it play well and is fun. I just hope that for the next FF they will go back to the more RPG gameplay like 7-10 (even 12, 13 and 15 a bit). Overall the game has some parts where the plot loses a bit of its momentum but just to pick it right back up and multiply it by a ton. I enjoyed the game and even though it’s not the best FF it is still one of the best games I ever played. Absolutely deserved 10 out of 10.

Compared to older FF titles, the overall story, environment, and theme seems rather tame to the epic imagination of the previous entries in the series. You will most likely find yourself spending countless hours doing MMO type messenger boy side quests and wondering if your time is being well spent.

Many of the combat mechanics ideas are borrowed from other action adventure games and don't really add anything unique to the gameplay element. There is little room for customization or building your character as most items are better than their predecessors. Many elements of the game are repetitive and honestly a bit boring. Much patience will be required to complete this title.

However, the environments seem well designed and the graphics for most areas are great with much detail and atmosphere. While some of the NPCs seem to be often too generic, the primary characters seem to be very well designed with detail to their persona. The cinematics of most of the battles including the boss battles are extremely well done and bring the excitement back to the game as what is mostly advertised in the trailers. Key moments in the main quest line do make the overall story more interesting and create more of an immersion of real world symbolism. Some dialog lines are great and will be moments to remember.

Overall, I don't feel like FFXVI lived up to the older titles in terms of greatness. However, if you are looking for a passive FF title with great cinematics and long dialog sequences then get ready to invest about 50-60 hours to complete this title.

Yes, there is much recycling happening in the Final Fantasy franchise as of late. With the success of FF14 it's no wonder that they would use some ideas. I would've liked more original ideas for this, the first true next gen Final Fantasy, but that is my only negative point. And for those who never played FF14, it's not even noticeable.

Other than that, everything else is incredible.

Other than that, everything else is incredible. Beautiful, stunning graphics, the best soundtrack ever, a most captivating story, great voiceacting, loveable characters, meaningful dialogues and then we get the best Cid ever on top. I would even go so far as to say one of the best NPC ever in a video game.

The combat system is very action-oriented, but I don't mind since I grew up playing DMC and GOW. Even though the CTB in FF X is my all-time favourite combat system in any FF, that doesn't make the FF XVI system any less awesome and fun to play. Yes, I miss some status ailments for strategic purposes, but it's no deal breaker.

The story is dark, brutal and surprisingly mature most of the times. As someone playing FF for nearly 30 years, I was rather shocked the moment someones head gets sliced of and someone else gets splattered with blood because of that. But I like it, it's much more realistic that way.

And I have to compliment Square Enix for including a gay couple. Yes, they didn't need to zoom out when they kiss, but it's a huge step forward for the series as it is. So thank you Square for that.

Completing the game leaves a bittersweet aftertaste and the desire for more.

The most purists may yearn for more turn-based combat, or complain about the game being more westernized in terms of history or combat, but even so, it remains an excellent gaming and Final Fantasy experience.

The game's weakest points are some secondary missions that break the excitement of some moments and the good rhythm in the game; and some small graphical inconsistencies that sometimes happen, but definitely, it's one of my favorite games of the year and ever.

I enjoy action games, I enjoy RPGs, and I enjoy dark fantasy stories, but I don't enjoy a mediocre attempt to mash the three together to 'modernize' a series by doing none of them justice.

FF16 had a coherent story, I'll admit that, but it fell short of other similar dark fantasy stories. It obviously wanted to be GoT but instead came up with a story that ignored the amazing world building erected around it. This world has a lot of interesting ideas and people, but the story decides to focus on flat characters who don't have a range of emotion and it constantly ignores the bigger picture in lieu of shallow political intrigue. The second half of the story completely ignores the day-to-day perils the branded face that was built up in the first half to instead focus on a power of friendship saves the world feel. Not to mention that the story doesn't even take the time to consider how pivotal of an event the loss of a mothercrystal would be to any average peasant's livelihood.

The RPG elements might as well not have existed. I liked the first 5-10 hours where I was still unlocking and messing around with the base abilities, but those quickly dried up and you are only left with a slow trickle of new Eikon abilities. By end game, there's hardly any variability in the skills you obtain and you are left with defeating every enemy in the same manner. Not to mention that your 'stats' upon levelling up were meaningless and each new weapon or armor you obtain is always objectively better than the last. There's no choice in play style, no builds, and no replay value here. Once you learn that you can precise dodge everything the game has nothing left to give.

What I was hoping for was what previous FF games gave me; namely, a deep RPG system, lots of choice in builds/weapons/abilities, and satisfying game play that made want to just play the game to have fun. Instead, there was too much focus on the cinematics and the gameplay only served as a buffer between cutscenes.

The largest fault in my mind is that the best battle took place halfway through the game, and nothing else could hold a candle to its epic proportions - certainly not the final fights. Each Eikon battle was a high for the game, but putting up with the other 40+ hrs of half-baked mediocre RPG did not make it a worthwhile experience.
