    Final Fantasy 16 is truly a GOTY contender in my eyes. The combat is very engaging, the soundtrack really gets you into the feel of the game, the graphics truly feel next-gen, although can be interrupted by the inconsistent 60-FPS, but isn’t a deal breaker. The game still looks fantastic. The story-telling in FFXVI is incredibly well done, and is supported very well by the “Active TimeFinal Fantasy 16 is truly a GOTY contender in my eyes. The combat is very engaging, the soundtrack really gets you into the feel of the game, the graphics truly feel next-gen, although can be interrupted by the inconsistent 60-FPS, but isn’t a deal breaker. The game still looks fantastic. The story-telling in FFXVI is incredibly well done, and is supported very well by the “Active Time Lore” feature in the game, which helps fill some holes if you ever feel lost, which I truly do appreciate. The character writing for the main cast is also really well done, and really made me resonate with Clive, Jill, Cid, and the others. All in all, fantastic game, and an absolute MUST PLAY!… Expand

    FFXVI is one hell of an RPG. With an in-depth world & narrative, a wide array of well-written characters, addicting combat, and a banger of a soundtrack, this game has quickly skyrocketed to become one of my all-time favorites. Great job, CBUIII.

    This game story took me back to the good final fantasy coming out in the west days 90s era.
    The combat is pure fun DMC style, the NG+ Final Fantasy mode and Ultimaniac are amazing.
    Game of the year for me.

    Despite haters, the game brings a lot of excitement. I'm with 12 hours playtime, the music its the best part.
    I hope this game gets the audience that it deserves, its very well made.

    FF16 lives up to the hype. The game is graphically beautiful with compelling characters and a gripping story. The gamplay is extremely satisfying and engaging. I don't think you could ask much more from a game. It makes the most of the PS5 and I hope to see more games like it in the future!

    What a great experiences from this game!
    Great graphics, great stories, great music, great combat, great fantasy. I’m so excited! I think FF16 can be the best one of Final Fantasy series. Thank you Yoshi-P and his team! I hope this game will spread all over the world!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. FFXVI’s gameplay is nothing short of exhilarating. Simplistic though it may begin, through progression, the combat becomes deep, complex, and extremely satisfying. Combat feels intuitive, simple, yet complex enough to offer variety. With “Devil May Cry-esque” combo style, when you finish a particular long fight with one of the Eikon’s final abilities (Mastered Flames of Rebirth being my personal favorite) you feel as powerful as Mythos should. Additionally, the game adds seamless transitions from in-game combat to cinematic combat in the form of QTEs (Dodge, Strike, and Clash) which enhance the spectacle without distracting you from the action.

    I played this with the Ring of Timely Focus equipped the entire time, so I can’t speak much about the difficulty save for it wasn’t as challenging as Elden Ring, but I also played it on story focused mode. I never felt underpowered or overpowered.

    Nothing more can be said about the writing accomplishments of the Final Fantasy writers other than they are some of the best in the industry and the writing in Final Fantasy XVI was nothing short of magnificent. Every story beat, every main quest, every side activity came with a compelling human story. Stories about slavery, prejudice, life, death, nihilism, everything in between give the story a more adult feel which is only made better with the atmosphere, characters, and score. Final Fantasy XVI is probably the first game in which the side missions felt just as important as the main questline. Even the dreaded “fetch” quests were brilliantly incorporated, and none felt like a chore.

    While the graphics won’t win it any awards competing with the graphical powerhouses by the likes of God of War Ragnarok, Last of Us Part II, or Horizon Forbidden West, the graphics in FF16 are a touch more improved than its predecessor FF15. Fidelity and textures aside, the environments themselves looked handcrafted and hand placed. The detail of each settlement, the topography, the atmosphere was expertly rendered making the world feel lived in, beautifully serene yet grim. From the forest, deserts, marshes, cities, hamlets, etc., the level designers have done so well with their world-building that I couldn’t help but to take a moment to admire the world around me no matter how trivial or insignificant they were to the story writ large.

    While much of the story has you follow open-world corridors, once you’ve run through the entirety of each territory, the map feels more akin to open sandboxes such as what Bioware achieved with Dragon Age II. But that’s not to say that this was poor design. On the contrary, the overall story benefits from the more linear paths to help players get invested in the lore of the world which by the way is a new feature during cutscenes.

    Amazingly orchestrated, FF16’s musical tracks perfectly encapsulate the atmosphere of the world expertly. Nothing more to say. It’s a Final Fantasy game afterall. My only complaint was the music that triggered when mounting your Chocobo which sometimes took me out of a serious moment with its goofier theme.

    I finished my first playthrough with a total of 64 hours of gametime. There is a New Game + feature in which you keep all your items and gear, but I haven’t embarked on that journey yet. However, I imagine that you can easily get more than 100+ hours of content out of this title which is becoming more of a rare oddity with recent RPG titles. And there are hopes of future DLC.

    In all my playtime, I NEVER experienced anything remotely buggy or glitchy. And as of this review, Final Fantasy 16 has not have a single update since launch and it doesn’t really need one. I should need to tell you how rare that is in today’s world.

    SUMMARY: This game is a masterpiece in my eyes. From the characters, the world, the story, its’ themes, its atmosphere, the musical score, the gameplay, the scale, everything just feels good, and I would hope after reading this review, you will give it a try. And if you are a fan of Final Fantasy as a whole, you must pick this up, you won’t be disappointed.    … Expand

    Whoever gave this game a 0 hasn't played the game at all.

    Final Fantasy XVI is one of the best games I have played this year and easily beats it's predecessor. (Btw I love FF XV, played through it multiple times and plan on doing so in the future)

    The characters are compelling, the world is amazing and I couldn't stop playing.

    The story, action, and voice acting are all amazing and has me hooked on every second. Pair that with the Godzilla like monster battles with old FF summons and good quality of life items like the active time lore, makes this one of my favorite games this year! Highly recommend if you are any type of FF fan!

    Has the highest high points of any game I've ever played, but also certain decisions that crushed me and annoyed me more than anything. I'm giving it a 10 despite the inconsistency, as it gave me the things it took away in the first place, and those characters and moments illicit feelings that come rarely in stories. The decision to kill off a certain major character, along with the ambiguity of the ending, crushed me but not in a "good" way that other games such as Nier Automata did. It left me feeling heartbroken and confused in a way no other story has, and although I was so frustrated in the moment, it's made for an unforgettable experience. It has the greatest boss fights in gaming, largely due to the unbridled spectacle and genius music, yet it also manages to interweave the climax of a story arc with those fights in such a cathartic and hype way. The soundtrack is masterful, and now I'm inclined to get into Final Fantasy 14 just to experience Masayoshi Soken's genius work again. Despite some of the feelings this game gave me, I'm completely in love with it and couldn't recommend it enough.    … Expand

This effectively does away with awkward insertions in conversations, such as reintroducing someone that everyone should already know, or defining terms that someone would learn as a child. The defects of this game, however, are the underdeveloped level design of the maps, the secondary missions which, despite being very interesting at a pure narrative level, do not have bosses or unique and interesting areas and the equipment in some moments could be very undemanding without needing to overexert themselves on which sword, belt and bracer to use or upgrade.     Probably the best game I've ever played. Everything about it is super amazing from the boss battles to normal battles. Only gripe I have is that it's a bit too easy and the quick time event window is too large making it feel as though they are kind of pointless. If the input window was a lot smaller and timing a lot tighter it'd feel so much better.

The skill-tree and gear system could have been a little deeper, but I understand that SE wanted to appeal to a wide audience with this entry. The RPG elements of this game are about on par with the Witcher III, which isWhat an absolute banger. The quality of this game is beyond impressive.     CBU3 really delivered with this one. If you love Final Fantasy, this is one of the most Final Fantasy games out there! I was moved to tears at the end!

    Positives: - Very well constructed and complex narrative, especially the 2nd part of the story - well-written Characters that have their own unique struggles - Beautifully build world/lore that adds a lot to the over-arching theme of    CBU3 really delivered with this one. If you love Final Fantasy, this is one of the most Final Fantasy games out there! I was moved to tears at the end!

    Positives:
    - Very well constructed and complex narrative, especially the 2nd part of the story
    - well-written Characters that have their own unique struggles
    - Beautifully build world/lore that adds a lot to the over-arching theme of humanity/hope/willpower
    - Impactful and fun gameplay system, each Eikon fills a different "role" (which I suppose is their way of adding some complexity to the gameplay system)
    - Best boss fights I've ever seen in a Video Game
    - Side Quests that are 100% worth doing, since they provide so much context to the ending, lore and world-building
    - Beautiful graphics and scenery with a big drawing distance
    - Chests that you actually need to search, unlike how it was handled in RE4R

    Negatives, albeit minor nitpicks:
    - World feels a bit empty at times, but given the context, it's no surprise really
    - Motion-capture lip sync seems a bit off in every other language other than German/English
    - If you don't like Final Fantasy as a series or don't enjoy narrative driven games, this game might not be as good for you
    - Side Quests need to be done to understand the whole picture
    - Would have loved if we spent more time with the characters in their youth    … Expand

    I am so impressed by this game - it is simply stunning and fun to play and the first game since R&C Rift Apart that feels and looks truly next gen. More than all it is thoroughly enjoyable to play with an enthralling story, amazing music and characters with a real depth. As much as I loved Ragnarok, I have actually unexpectedly had more fun playing this game. So much so that I had to joinI am so impressed by this game - it is simply stunning and fun to play and the first game since R&C Rift Apart that feels and looks truly next gen. More than all it is thoroughly enjoyable to play with an enthralling story, amazing music and characters with a real depth. As much as I loved Ragnarok, I have actually unexpectedly had more fun playing this game. So much so that I had to join Metacritic to leave a user review.

    Of course it isn't without issue, 30fps not a stable 60fps, being the biggest negative, however this is easily forgivable with everything else the game achieves with some of the most beautiful graphics and cinematic presentation. The side quests are a bit more mundane but again not that a big issue for me.

    I fully recommend this game to anyone looking to lose themselves in a thrilling exhilarating adventure in a mystical world with some of the best graphics, music and combat system you'll ever experience. 100% sold!!!!    … Expand

    I love every second of this game. Characters have "soul". Story keep you in constant pressure for what gonna be next. And fighting system is very satisfying

    The game is a excellent example of telling a compelling story with believable and well written Characters, a beautiful and dark plot that will capture    Final Fantasy XVI is truly a masterpiece of a game, not just as a Final Fantasy title.     The game is a excellent example of telling a compelling story with believable and well written Characters, a beautiful and dark plot that will capture your imagination and attention and never let up until the end. The Story is very dark and mature for a Final Fantasy title. The Story, Music, Combat and World Building are all master-class, it is so refreshing to play a game in 2023 with a original story and not just another remaster or remake of an existing IP, and have it be an incredible example of what modern games can still be and aspire towards.

    I will also say the main villain was one of the most interesting and original of the entire series, in my opinion. It was definitely something I wasn't expecting and the way the Developers handled this villain was very interesting. It felt different, but also the game tells some really great lessons from the themes but also the Characters motivations and how they grow and redeem themselves throughout the plot. I liked Clive and Jill as the main Characters and they were both relatable, likeable and felt like believable Characters who I could relate to and sympathize with. I also felt the romance between Clive and Jill felt natural and not forced, and they had a great Chemistry as well. The Voice acting throughout the game is master class, and some of the very best in the Industry.

    If there is any game you should definitely buy this year it is Final Fantasy XVI. Play it with the intention of playing through to the end, and you will be greatly rewarded to see a Story of love, war, loss and redemption that is truly one of the series most beautiful and haunting stories.

    Die-hard Final Fantasy fan here. I might be biased but to be honest, I did not like 8,9,12, and 13. That being said, I realize my bias and can honestly review this game as being really good. It hits like XIV but that is to be expected coming from Yoshi P. All I can say is without giving any spoilers up, this game has an excellent story, good pacing, the best boss fights I've ever played inDie-hard Final Fantasy fan here.     Although you need like 30 minutes to get used to the 30fps and the art style, once you pass this barrier, the game becomes a masterpiece. Great story deep characters and it is medieval. I recommend for any fan and even for non-fans of the series. It is very modern and cimatographic. Worth every minute.

    It is spectacular, pure fun in every way! Some side-quests are routine, crafting and gear-system is not what you expect it to be (in order to keep the pace of the story telling, which, I think, is the best in decades) but all of these are pale in comparison to all of the rest. THIS GAME IS FUN! It brings you back the feeling of excitement of playing games. Loved it!

    It's a really good game. Excellent plot and acting, interesting gameplay. It can be seen that this generation of games took a lot of effort from the producers, it is really good, I think you can try it if you are not a fan of Final Fantasy. This is a good work if you want to start your final fantasy journey.

    Possibly the best I've ever played on PS5! Had more fun with both parts of GoW. Dynamic and varied combat system,
    A very interesting story that is fun to watch. This is the kind of game worth buying a PS5 for. Worth walking past only if you don't like epic fantasy.
    P.S. I played in quality mode, the last time I felt such comfort at 30 fps was in TLoU 2 (on ps4pro)
