    Best game. I love all FF's games in general. but this game has topped it. As a fan coming from Yoshi P's FFXIV Game as well. This game does so much and fills in a lot of your time with beautiful storytelling and heart wrenching dialogue. It will definitely be something you will love. Don't listen to the bad nay sayers who just think one mindedly. This game is worth a shot. !

    I'm an OG Final Fantasy fan, I played the very first FF1 and FF2 on SNES and have been in love with the franchise ever since. FF15 was a disappointment, even though there were some cool elements to it.
    So when I saw FF16's first combat trailers, I was worried. I really hoped for a good old turned based JRPG    This is the first time I bother writing a review. This game deserves the effort.

    So when I saw FF16's first combat trailers, I was worried. I really hoped for a good old turned based JRPG and what I saw was more like a Devil May Cry type action game.
    But I was WRONG, the combat system is extremely FUN! I'm 100+ hours playing the game and I'm still going out of my way to fight extra enemies, NOT because I need the extra XP, but because COMBAT in FF16 is really fun, there's no ending to the amount of new combos you can do, and switching Eikonic Abilities allows for a lot of customization.
    And of course... the storytelling is one of the best ever made, it doesn't pale in comparison to The Witcher, The Last of Us or Cyberpunk2077.
    This is a game of the year contender, without a doubt. Everyone who can play it, should play it ;-)

But I do not like ff16 from what has been shown in trailers. so to be honest I didn't have a high expectation and didn't Pre-order this game. Until the demo is released, it's just mind-blowing and I make a PO for a physical copy right away.

    So far so great, the game makes me happy, and    My very first review of a game on Metacritic, I am a u40 gamer who loves FF franchises very much.     I enjoyed every second of this game, it made me smile so often. THE BOSSFIGHTS ARE JUST P*RN WITH COMBAT AND SOUNDTRACK, THATS WHAT I HOPED TO SEE IN GOW RAGNARÖK, BUT RAGNARÖK BOSS FIGHT WAS RLLY MEH AND GOT A 94, BUT FF16 IS A GAME YOU CANT COMPARE TO OTHERS, JUST PLS PLAY IT U WONT REGRET!!!

    This game is the standard for not only the Final Fantasy series, but ARPGs going forward. Story, combat, graphics, lore, music is all outstanding. Sometimes I can’t believe that I am actually playing something of this quality. Whether you’re a 20+ yearlong fan like myself or new to the series, this game is for you. Forget everything you think you know about Final Fantasy and pick this one up.

    Yes, the game is not your typical Final Fantasy combat rpg type of game, but the new fresh action combat rpg will bring a lot of new players and fans into the series. As usual, the music is top noch! Best video game OST of the year IMO. The Boss fights in this game is Insane!!!!! Definitely my top 5 final fantasy game of all time.

    Final fantasy has been around a while now and I've tried it over the years. Always enjoyed the story and the characters. It was the turn based combat that stopped me really enjoying them. So FF16 was always going to be promising. The combat is incredible. Its slick, takes skill, looks amazing and there's so many options.     FF 16 is being review bombed just like Resident Evil 4 Remake was review bombed few months ago. To go even further back, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was also heavily review bombed by those same people who whined that "it's not FF anymore, because it's not muh turn based combat whine whine whine". These people are not real gamers, they should be banned from everywhere. Hopefully MetacriticFF 16 is being review bombed just like Resident Evil 4 Remake was review bombed few months ago.     Llevo mas de 40 horas jugadas entre historia principal y secundaria y quiero decir que por el momento me parece que es el mejor Final Fantasy en cuanto a historia que prefiero. Ahora bien tiene pequeños detalles mejorables como las misiones secundarias, los objetos como tal tampoco tienen gran impacto y el frame rate pero por lo de mas me parece una absoluta obra maestra.
    La música, los    Llevo mas de 40 horas jugadas entre historia principal y secundaria y quiero decir que por el momento me parece que es el mejor Final Fantasy en cuanto a historia que prefiero.     Turn based combat was biggest mistake in gaming history and i'm glad it's never coming back!!! If i could go back in time, i would make sure turn based combat was never invented and they would start with action combat from the very beginning!!!

    Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are best Final Fantasy games of all time, They are both modern (real time combat), have perfect voice acting, amazing graphics and amazing story (yes FF7 Remake story is even better than the OG, because they added and improved so many things).     After 50h, I finished the game. Although there are some issues such as the rpg elements, the game's strengths are so far and beyond what I expected that I had a really great time in what might be my favorite FF.

    The characters and moments in this game are better than anything I have ever seen. They deserve all the praise for this great game, and with the absolutely incredible music score from Soken, this is something everyone should at least try out.

    The game is fun, the characters are likable, and the battle mechanics are great. The plot was very interesting, and there are all sorts of dark twists and turns that keep your attention. It’s pretty violent, but I’ve definitely seen worse. The graphic and the soundtrack are stunning.

    Final Fantasy HAS NOT been TURN BASED for TWENTY YEARS now. Move on LOSERS. If you want TURN BASED combat, then this series is NOT FOR YOU anymore and has not been for you, FOR A LONG TIME.

    It's like asking Doom Eternal combat and movement to be as basic as Doom 1993 or Resident Evil to be FIXED GAMER ANGLES.

The story is such that it is as yoshi p described - a rollercoaster - and it goes from incredible cinematic experiences to extremely calm and low key and back again, which only serves to make the epic stuff hit harder. I won’t say anything else about the story but it is gripping and lacking nothing. The music and visuals have set a new bar for games to strive for, the gameplay is exactly what the series needed and has not only revived ff but also drawn in a huge number of new fans, the boss fights are incredible and the vibes are excellent.     I see these kinds of comments all the time in different forums and sites- "Final fantasy is dead and hasn't been good since "insert any year before 2002" blah blah blah". Yet, instead of just not caring (as they claim), those are the same people who constantly hate on new FF games and same people who review bomb them. Ele não para de evoluir, você sempre tem habilidades para comprar e aprimorar, o jogo não te limita. FFXVI é repleto de batalhas especiais e você sempre percebe o carinho que os desenvolvedores tiveram em deixar todas elas diferentes, são longas porém te ajudam a aproveitar e testar toda essa gama de habilidades que o jogo te dá. Sugiro observarem de forma carinhosa todas as habilidades da árvore, principalmente as habilidades especiais dos Eikons, são impressionantes. O jogo consegue fazer você se importar muito pelos personagens, como possui também uma abordagem mais "sanguinária" a qualquer momento você pode ver um personagem que gosta em apuros. A trilha sonora é contagiante, ela entra o tempo inteiro com as mais diversas melodias, das mais calmas e clássicas até a mais épicas e animadoras de todas. A história e o seu progresso segue como se a trilha sonora estivesse mudando de calma e leve para densa e empolgante várias e várias vezes, te dando uma boa sequência de combates gigantescos por um longo tempo e depois uma folga para você andar por aí e fazer missões pelo mundo. Um equilíbrio previsível mas essencial que funcionou muito bem.

    Apesar de tudo que eu amei em Final Fantasy, ele não é perfeito. Os gráficos e as expressões poderiam ser melhores para a nossa época atual, bem melhores. Além disso eu senti que algumas missões secundárias de fazer entregas e virar uma espécie de mensageiro não bate muito bem com a trama, o Clive tem outras responsabilidades mais importantes que poderiam ser desempenhadas em missões mais desafiadoras. As caçadas por exemplo, que é algo que o jogo libera em algum momento da história são muito legais, eu nunca deixei uma para trás, são épicas e recompensadoras. Porém, de qualquer forma, os pontos negativos são sobrepostos com facilidade pelos muitos positivos. Sobre aspectos técnicos do jogo eu presenciei quedas de FPS, de forma mínima mas é algo que ocorreu, também seria interessante eles entregarem 60 FPS no modo desempenho por 100% do tempo, sem a alternância para os 30 FPS.

    And i think Jill and Clive's relationship should be discovered more

    Magic doesnt deal so much damage in game (not inlucing eikons magic) i mostly used in combos or for flying enemies also charged vers kinda deals ok damage.
    Limit isnt special attack in this game, its kinda like dmc devil form.

    Eikons fights are epic not button spam(sometimes)

    Side quests was balanced between goods and errands. Some sidequest gives u really good info about side characters or lore , some other gives upgrades and some others are just errands.

    It has hunt missions like ff15 it was one of best things in ff15.

    U can learn terms or see character lore by talking loresman in game it really helps and it fsr better than watching video or searching on google.
    Also u can learn things about nations, map and events timeline by talking vivian.
    It has dog assisting and chocobo to ride.(chocobo unlocks after side quest)

    Game isnt open world but kinda like open world. All map isnt connected but cities in a region connected. Ig its good thing cus u dont have to walk all day in map , u have many location to fast travel
    World desing is ok it doesnt have smth epic or bad , it has corridor like part not good but overall ok imo.

    Game isnt hard also if you use auto dodge or item that makes time slow to dodge it makes game so easy.

    Without using them its not that easy but not hard too.
    Game has eikon skill time challenges they are hard to find in map but not that hard to beat i beat all 1st try.

    Games doesnt run at 60fps on performance mode its like 45 50 mostly but sometimes drops in 1 or 2 cities also it drops when so much explosion happens.    … Expand

    From the graphics, the music, and the voice acting, this is the best FF game I've ever played. The combat system is my new favorite for RPG games and I hope they keep it for future FF games. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, so I'll just say if you're a fan of Final Fantasy, do yourself a massive favor and play this game.

    Excellent, characters and an amazing story, graphics and perfect soundtrack. The RPG elements (side quests, crafting, etc.) were simplified to attract new players, trying to make an action/rpg mix light, I preferred something denser in that aspect, but it doesn't make the game any less amazing.

    I could not recommend this game more. The gameplay is tight and engaging, with lots of variety. The minimal crafting is appreciated as well. There are plenty of other titles with deep crafting, so I enjoyed the break from that sort of thing.

    I love the story-focused adventure here. It’s rare to get a high quality title like this anymore. Great production values, to boot. Better than most movies or shows that have been produced since 2016.

    Now for the real review. For people complaining about how this is "not Final Fantasy" you completely missed the point of a Final Fantasy game. The first Final Fantasy was created as a last hoorah from the developers as they were going bust, hence the name Final Fantasy. They wanted to tell a story. Final Fantasy has ALWAYS been about the story. I've played every FF except for 3 and 11, let's be real here, the combat was always easy, the hardest fights were always side quests/optional bosses. Sephiroth was a compelling enemy not because he was difficult, but because of his strength and purpose. Kefka was scary not because he was hard to beat but because he wanted to watch the world burn. FFX was memorable because of Tidus's laugh and the sad ending along with the main theme To Zanarkand. When has it ever been about "the combat"? People complaining about combat in FFXVI are simply nostalgic boomers that don't understand Final Fantasy has always been about the story.

    What makes a great Final Fantasy game has always been these elements; great story, compelling characters, epic music often with orchestra arrangements and cutscene CGI ahead of it's time.

    Yet, here I see the same people crying about what makes a Final Fantasy game great.

    Saying the combat is repetitive is simply because you're bad. You have 6 elements with about 4 skills each, that's enough combination for variety. If you think mobs have too much HP that's because you're bad. I've seen streamers at lvl 43 deal 50k stagger damage crying about how much HP enemies and have their audience reiterate that sentiment. I've also seen streamers deal up to 150k stagger dmg and myself at 130k at lvl 40+ My only complaint would be the enemies could be hitting harder in base game

    Another complaint would be that some of the side quests are too length and irrelevant or poorly placed which disrupted the pacing towards the end.    … Expand

    Final Fantasy XVI is different. It is mature, bold, and the game knows what it wants to be.     Final Fantasy XVI is different. It is mature, bold, and the game knows what it wants to be. I haven't experienced emotional highs and lows like this in a Final Fantasy since Final Fantasy X. The story had me tearing up, jumping for joy, and on the edge of my seat for what felt like the entire campaign. I haven't experienced a video game story like this........ ever.

    While I prefer turn based combat, I have loved the action based combat developed by Ryota Suzuki. At times I did wish it was more difficult but they've given me arcade mode and Final Fantasy hard mode to challenge myself appropriately. Even in the main story difficulty, performing a parry, dodge, or proper combo feels really good. The main story sequences are epic, grand, and bold and I understand why Yoshi-P went with action based combat to make the transition to these scenes more realistic. Performing a cinematic strike feels epic.

    I get why this game is so controversial. For the first time in 17 years Square-Enix did not pull their punches. They went with the direction Yoshi-P wanted without holding him back. Many people will not enjoy it, and that's ok. The people that do enjoy games like this will absolutely love it. For the last 20 years I have bounced between Final Fantasy 6, 7 and 9 as my favourite in the series. Final Fantasy 16 has cemented itself as my new favourite and I do not say that lightly.    … Expand

Final Fantasy reinvents itself with a thrilling combat system on par with the best-in-class of the Character Action and Action RPG genre while telling a wonderfully-written, dark, mature, and engaging high-fantasy story. The story blends the realness, grittiness, and darkness you’dFinal Fantasy XVI breathes new life into a 36-year old IP while maintaining the spirit of the franchise. Final Fantasy reinvents itself with a thrilling combat system on par with the best-in-class of the Character Action and Action RPG genre while telling a wonderfully-written, dark, mature, and engaging high-fantasy story. The story blends the realness, grittiness, and darkness you’d expect from IPs like the Witcher 3 and perhaps more aptly, Game of Thrones. This only serves, through contrast, to make more profound the themes that you’d expect from a Final Fantasy that are very present in this iteration of the series: the goodness of humanity and the importance of bonds with others. The script was written in English first which avoids some of the awkwardness caused by translation that is common to the genre, and is delivered through a strong cast of central characters with incredible voice acting. Final Fantasy XVI also shines with its boss designs, which surpass just about every other game I’ve played, and are accompanied by one of the best soundtracks in gaming history.

    Where it’s a bit rougher on the edges is in its dated side-quest design system, lack of RPG elements, and some pacing issues in between major story beats. While the side-quest design is superior to many modern RPGs, some of the quests feel less consequential and put-together than quests from other modern masterpieces like the Witcher 3. The lack of RPG elements like powerful gear to find out in the world provide little incentive to explore Valisthea outside of sidequests and hunts. Finally, while Final Fantasy XVI has some of the highest points in gaming during its main campaign, the game will transition into calmer moments in the story that it uses for world and character building. While this is welcome after such intense missions, the execution could be a little bit better, as some of the main quests during these points in the story feel mundane. These calmer story beats also often feature lower-production cutscenes which feel a little disjointed compared to the extremely high-octane missions that feature full motion capture cutscenes at a very high production value.

    No game is perfect, and if it were any other game, the rough edges present in Final Fantasy XVI would warrant docking a point. However, Final Fantasy XVI’s light shines so brightly during its best moments that I can’t consider this game anything but a masterpiece. The high-points in this game surpass every game I’ve played that I would give the same rating to such as God of War, the Last of Us, and the Witcher 3. This allows for some forgiveness for the rougher edges. As an avid Final Fantasy fan who has played every mainline Final Fantasy including FFXIV 1.0, I believe that that this game is the best in the series. It has reinvigorated one of the most storied franchises in gaming history and hopefully ushers in a new age of mature Final Fantasy games that still captures the spirit of the franchise.

    Wish i could give this game a 9.5 until the performance problems are fixed and the terrible motion blur is gone

    Cons: This is NOT a complex game, with multiple builds and stats or elemental damage to care about. does have performance issues, even tho they were not even close to the frame drops i had with Zelda recently.     Now with the pros
    - One of the best stories of the final fantasy franchise, has an good amount of drama, action, romance and on a good pace.
    - The soundtrack is AMAZING, specially on big fights
    - Visuals are beautiful, nothing that will change the games as it is, but it still really impressive.
    - Gameplay feels good, fast with a few variations of skills.
    - Hunts are cool, wish it was more of them.

    Seriously, its a final fantasy like any other, really loved the action improvement related to 15 bloaty weapon system. Soundtrack is perfect, graphics are amazing and all this technology to present a good story.

    Sad about it score tho, people are complaining that the game CBU3 showed its not what they had in mind    … Expand

    FFXVI is absolutely incredible. The combat is immensely fun (especially as you progress further in the game) and the story is engaging and genuinely good. Yes, there are so many cutscenes, but for me they added so much necessary depth. Once you pass 10ish hours, things really start to hook you in. I've never written a review for a game before, but just felt compelled to do so this time.FFXVI is absolutely incredible.     What an absolutely incredible game. The boss fights are some of the best if not the best I've ever experienced, the music is up there too, the story is great from start to finish, the combat is also addicting all the way through, and leaves you wanting for your 2nd playthrough.

    The ONLY downsides are performance mode struggling and side quests being mostly generic.

    I bought a PS5 for this game after loving the teams work on their expansions and I gotta say they didn't disappoint. This game is a torrent of emotions, boss battles that defy the imagination in terms of scale that outclasses even the giants in the movie industry when it comes to jaw dropping visuals. Lovable characters and one of the best combat systems I've played with in 10 years.     Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent game in every way. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
